  • Vo’s Life Hangs in the Balance as Fly Team Hunts Down Csonka in Paris

FBI: International’s midseason premiere is full of tension and fear as Vo’s life continues to hang in the balance.

“How is she?” Special Agent in Charge Wes Mitchell (Jesse Lee Soffer) asks a surgeon about Cameron Vo (Vinessa Vidotto) in Us Weekly’s exclusive sneak peek at the Tuesday, January 28, episode, after she was shot during the midseason finale.

The doctor explains that while Vo is “stable” but due to “extensive soft tissue damage” around her collar bone (where she was shot) the “risk of infection is extremely high.”

The wound is currently free from bacteria, but the doctor warns, “If an infection does take hold especially in that area …” it won’t be good.

A worried Andre Raines (Carter Redwood) tries to get more details, asking, “Then what? What happens?” The surgeon ominously says that’s “all I can share” for now.

Despite their fear of losing Vo, Wes reminds his team that they have to find fugitive Greg Csonka (Beau Knapp) who killed his former partner. While the Fly Team had the evidence they needed to put Csonka away for 30 years, he managed to escape transport during the midseason finale, which aired in December 2024.

During his escape, Csonka shot Vo from behind which resulted in a fractured collar bone that needed immediate surgery.

When the series picks up on Tuesday, Wes and his team must put aside their feelings and find Csonka before he does more harm.

“OK. I know we all want to stay here. And leaving feels like the wrong thing to do right now, but Greg Csonka is out there,” Wes tells his crew, which includes longtime friend Tyler Booth (Jay Hayden), who joined the Fly Team during season 4, episode 7.

Wes explains in the preview that Csonka is “on the run and he’s willing to do God knows what to avoid capture.”

He notes, “Cam would want us to go get him. I know I would” before having one of the FBI’s computer techs come in to stay at the hospital and give them “constant updates.”

Agent Amanda Tate (Christina Wolfe) then confirms that Csonka’s plane was located on the border of France and Germany.

Jay Hayden Says There’s a ‘Clashing of Personalities’ on ‘FBI: International’ Between Newbie Tyler, Wes

“That narrows it down to about a million square miles,” Tyler quips, before Megan “Smitty” Garrison (Eva-Jane Willis) adds that Interpol has officially issued a red notice for the fugitive.

According to CBS, the Fly Team’s hunt for Csonka will lead them to Paris during the episode, titled “The Kill Floor.”

While in the City of Lights, Raines gets kidnapped and is held hostage by Csonka, per photos of the episode that have been released. Other pictures from the midseason premiere show Wes and Tyler seemingly talking to the fugitive on the phone and a worried Smitty coordinating with local police.

FBI: International airs on CBS Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET.

In a heart-pounding race against time, Vo’s life hangs in the balance as the elite fly team hunts down Csonka in the bustling streets of Paris. With tensions high and danger lurking around every corner, the fate of Vo rests in the hands of the skilled operatives tasked with bringing Csonka to justice.

Follow along as the pulse-pounding pursuit unfolds, with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Will the fly team be able to catch Csonka before it’s too late? Will Vo make it out alive? Only time will tell in this thrilling tale of cat-and-mouse in the City of Lights.

Stay tuned for updates as the high-stakes chase continues and the fate of Vo hangs in the balance. Paris may never be the same after this intense showdown between good and evil.

  • Mike Johnson’s speakership hangs in the balance ahead of House vote – live | House of Representatives

Mike Johnson’s speakership hangs in the balance ahead of House vote – live | House of Representatives

House to vote on new speaker today

Welcome to the new session of Congress, live blog readers.

Today at 12pm ET, the House of Representatives will begin the process of electing a new speaker, which could drag on for days if incumbent leader Mike Johnson cannot unify the Republican conference.

Johnson easily won his conference’s speaker nomination in November, but House Republicans’ narrow majority and the recent, highly contentious negotiations over a government funding package have imperiled his bid.

With former representative Matt Gaetz’s seat remaining vacant for now, Republicans have 219 House seats to Democrats’ 215. That means that, assuming every House member is in attendance and voting for a speaker candidate, Johnson can only afford a single Republican defection and still keep the gavel.

One House Republican, Thomas Massie of Kentucky, has already indicated he will not support Johnson on the first ballot today.

“You can pull all my fingernails out; you can shove bamboo up in them; you can start cutting off my fingers,” Massie told Gaetz, who is now a host for One America News, in an interview yesterday. “I am not voting for Mike Johnson tomorrow, and you can take that to the bank.”

Now the question becomes whether one other Republican will join Massie. Given the dozens of Republicans who remain outraged over Johnson’s attempt to pass a bipartisan funding deal with Democratic support last month, his victory is far from guaranteed.

Although speakership races have historically been straightforward affairs with little drama involved, that all changed in 2023, when the speakership election of the new Congress stretched on for days. It took Kevin McCarthy, Republicans’ speaker nominee, 15 ballots to capture the gavel, and he was ousted from his post just nine months later.

But Johnson has one major advantage heading into the vote: an endorsement from Donald Trump. The president-elect threw his support behind Johnson on Monday, and he doubled down on the endorsement in a post on Truth Social this morning.

“Good luck today for Speaker Mike Johnson, a fine man of great ability, who is very close to having 100% support,” Trump said. “A win for Mike today will be a big win for the Republican Party.”

Will Trump’s endorsement be enough to get Johnson across the finish line? The outcome remains unclear, so stay tuned.

    Key events

If the House cannot elect a speaker on the first ballot this afternoon, then all business of the chamber will grind to a halt until a leader is chosen.

In October 2023, after Republican Kevin McCarthy was removed from the speaker’s chair, it took weeks to elect his replacement, leaving the House unable to consider any legislation for most of the month.

The stakes of the speakership race will be even higher given the chamber’s crucial business this month. House members cannot be formally sworn in for the new session of Congress until a speaker is chosen, and the chamber needs to certify the results of the presidential election in just three days.

In a dramatic turn of events, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson’s leadership is in jeopardy as the House of Representatives prepares to vote on his continued speakership. Rumors of discontent within the caucus have been swirling for weeks, with some members questioning Johnson’s ability to effectively lead the chamber.

As the tension mounts, all eyes are on the House floor as members prepare to cast their votes. Will Johnson be able to rally enough support to maintain his position as Speaker, or will this be the end of his tenure?

Stay tuned for live updates as the House of Representatives decides the fate of Mike Johnson’s speakership.

Trump’s nominee to run Pentagon hangs by a thread | Nation

US President-elect Donald Trump’s nomination of TV host Pete Hegseth to run the Defense Department appeared to be on life support Wednesday as Republican senators questioned his fitness for the powerful role.

Hegseth, a former Army National Guard officer and Fox News presenter, is under intense pressure over a series of misconduct allegations, including accusations of drunken behavior and a sexual assault claim from 2017, over which no charges were filed.

Hegseth denies wrongdoing but the controversy has left Trump’s transition officials scrambling to avoid the embarrassment of a second Cabinet nomination collapsing amid dwindling support from Republicans in Congress.

Running the Pentagon is one of the biggest roles in public office. The Defense Department employs almost three million military and civilian staff, and spending — including veterans’ care — topped $1 trillion in the 2023 fiscal year.

“I’m doing this for the warfighters, not the warmongers. The Left is afraid of disrupters and change agents,” Hegseth posted on social media, accusing the press of smearing him and vowing to “never back down.”

He told CBS as he arrived for a second day of meetings with senators on Capitol Hill that Trump told him to “keep going, keep fighting.”

However, up to six Senate Republicans — including South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham, one of Trump’s staunchest allies on Capitol Hill — have voiced doubts over Hegseth’s confirmation, according to NBC and ABC.

The questions around his character deepened as an old email emerged in which Hegseth’s own mother called him an “abuser of women,” although she subsequently disavowed the criticism, which she said had been made “in haste.”

    – ‘Very disturbing’ –

But Graham told CBS News the allegations emerging from Hegseth’s past were “very disturbing.”

“He obviously has a chance to defend himself here, but some of this stuff is going to be difficult,” Graham told CBS.

Trump’s nominees can afford to lose the support of only three Republicans at their January Senate confirmation hearings, assuming all Democrats vote against them.

US media have floated various alternatives to Hegseth, with Trump said to be mulling one-time Republican primary rival and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

The move would raise eyebrows in Washington, as the pair had only the most perfunctory of reconciliations after a bitter presidential nomination battle that left both bruised, although the governor did endorse Trump after dropping out.

On what was being seen as a day of reckoning, Hegseth’s schedule included sit-downs with the incoming Republican Senate leader and Armed Services Committee chairman.

He told reporters in Congress the process had been “wonderful” and revealed that Trump had tasked him with bringing a “warfighting ethos” back to the Pentagon.

“Your job is to make sure that it’s lethality, lethality, lethality. Everything else is gone. Everything else that distracts from that shouldn’t be happening,” he said.

The 44-year-old had been expected to give an interview to Fox News but instead went on SiriusXM, where he denied having a drinking problem and accused unspecified enemies of inventing his misconduct because they see him as a “threat.”

Betting exchange Polymarket gave him an 83 percent probability of securing the Pentagon post when he was first announced three weeks ago but that has since dropped precipitously, to 12 percent.

Former Florida congressman Matt Gaetz, Trump’s first choice for attorney general, withdrew when he was on 30 percent amid his own sexual misconduct allegations.

The New Yorker piled the agony on Hegseth at the weekend, reporting that he was forced to quit roles running two non-profits over allegations of sexual misconduct, heavy drinking and mismanagement of funds.

As many as 10 former colleagues at Fox News have also voiced worries over Hegseth’s drinking, NBC News reported.

He is one of a number of Trump nominees facing uphill climbs to get through Senate confirmation to join a government set to feature at least three other figures who have denied past accusations of sexual misconduct, including Robert F. Kennedy and Elon Musk.

    ft/bgs

In a stunning turn of events, President Trump’s nominee to run the Pentagon, Anthony Tata, is hanging by a thread as his controversial past comes to light. Tata, a retired Army brigadier general and Fox News commentator, has come under fire for a history of inflammatory and offensive remarks on social media.

Critics have pointed to Tata’s Islamophobic and sexist tweets, as well as his past comments calling former President Barack Obama a “terrorist leader.” These remarks have raised serious concerns about his ability to lead the Department of Defense effectively and impartially.

Tata’s nomination is currently pending in the Senate, where several key lawmakers have expressed reservations about his fitness for the position. With a slim Republican majority in the Senate, Tata’s confirmation is far from certain.

As the controversy surrounding Tata continues to grow, it remains to be seen whether he will be able to weather the storm and secure the support needed to lead the Pentagon. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
