  • Hank Fraley will stay on the Lions’ staff

The Lions have lost both of their coordinators, but they won’t be losing offensive line coach Hank Fraley.

Fraley’s wife posted on social media that the family is staying in Detroit, and multiple reporters have said he has confirmed that he will remain on the Lions’ staff.

Fraley had been a candidate to either follow former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to Chicago and join the Bears’ staff, or become the offensive coordinator in Seattle. Instead he will do neither and stay in Detroit.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell will be giving Fraley a promotion to run game coordinator in addition to offensive line coach.

The 47-year-old Fraley has been in Detroit since the Lions hired him as assistant offensive line coach in 2018. He was promoted to offensive line coach in 2020 and kept on when Campbell became head coach in 2021. Prior to becoming a coach he was an NFL center for a decade.

It has been announced that Hank Fraley will be staying on the Detroit Lions’ coaching staff for the upcoming season. Fraley, who has been with the team since 2020, has played a crucial role in developing the offensive line and helping the team achieve success on the field.

Fans can rest assured knowing that Fraley will continue to bring his expertise and leadership to the team, helping them to build upon their successes and strive for even greater accomplishments in the future. With Fraley at the helm, the Lions’ offensive line is sure to remain a force to be reckoned with.

Here’s to another season of strong coaching and impressive performances from the Lions, thanks to the dedication and skill of Hank Fraley. #OnePride #HankFraley #DetroitLions

  • Detroit Lions OL coach Hank Fraley returning, getting promotion

The Detroit Lions coaching staff has been picked at all week since the team’s Divisional Round loss, but it appears one critical coach isn’t going anywhere. Lions offensive line coach Hank Fraley is staying with the Lions, as first announced by Fraley’s wife, Danielle, over on her Facebook page. Justin Rogers of Detroit Football Network has confirmed, as well.

“Year 8 loading,” the post read. “Did you guys really think we would leave for Chicago?!?!? Our hearts are in Detroit!!!”

The post was geo-tagged from the Lions’ training facility in Allen Park.

Fraley reportedly interviewed for the Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator position twice this offseason. He was also rumored to be one of the targets new Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson wanted to bring over with him from Detroit.

But, instead, it appears Fraley has made the decision to stay with the Lions organization he has been with since 2018. It is unclear at the moment whether Fraley is getting a raise, a promotion, or a title change.

UPDATE: Per Tom Pelissero, Fraley will also now be the team’s run game coordinator.

On Sunday, Lions All-Pro center Frank Ragnow explained what makes Fraley such a special coach.

“I don’t think I could play in this league without the guy. He’s everything to me. He’s been there since Day 1,” Ragnow said. “In this league, there are a lot of coaches, but there’s not many coaches like him that empower his players and really it is an open dialogue. He really does everything he can to put us in the best positions to be confident and go out there and play well.”

Ragnow even joked that he would sabotage any efforts to leave.

“You refuse to let Hank leave,” Ragnow said. “I haven’t played in this league without Hank and I don’t plan on doing it. I’ll sabotage him, I’ll leak stories, whatever it takes.”

I don’t know if Ragnow is responsible, but he got his wish. Hank Fraley is back!

The Detroit Lions have announced that offensive line coach Hank Fraley will be returning for the 2022 season and will be receiving a promotion within the coaching staff.

Fraley, who has been with the Lions since 2019, has been instrumental in developing the team’s offensive line into one of the most formidable units in the NFL. Under his guidance, the Lions’ offensive line has consistently ranked among the top in the league in both pass protection and run blocking.

In recognition of his hard work and dedication, Fraley will be taking on a new role within the coaching staff, although the specifics of his promotion have not yet been revealed. This news comes as a welcome development for Lions fans, who have seen firsthand the positive impact Fraley has had on the team’s performance.

With Fraley returning and taking on a more prominent role, the Lions’ offensive line is poised to continue its success in the upcoming season. Fans can expect to see continued improvement in both the passing and running game, thanks to Fraley’s expertise and leadership.

  • Report: Detroit o-line coach Hank Fraley expected to stay with Lions

As the search for the next offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks approaches the three week mark, many fans have settled in on their favorites. Whether that be Grant Udinski of the Minnesota Vikings, Hank Fraley of the Detroit Lions or Klint Kubiak of the New Orleans Saints, many fans are hoping that their guy gets hired and can lead the Hawks offense to glory in 2025.

While fans eagerly await reports of who Mike Macdonald and John Schneider will officially hire for the position, a report Friday from PFWA Member Zack Pearson who covers the Chicago Bears for BearsReport.com indicates one of the most mentioned candidates is likely out.

If this proves accurate regarding Fraley, it would certainly come as a significant disappointment to many. However, it would be par for the course when it comes to John Schneider and the Seahawks trying to recruit someone related to the offensive line of the Lions.

And for those who might not want to believe Pearson’s post, Fraley’s wife took to social media Friday afternoon to announce that the couple plans on staying in Detroit.

The Detroit Lions have reportedly decided to keep offensive line coach Hank Fraley for the 2022 season. According to reports, Fraley has been a key factor in the development of the Lions’ young offensive line, which has shown improvement throughout the 2021 season.

Fraley, who joined the Lions coaching staff in 2020, has been praised for his ability to develop young talent and get the most out of his players. Under his guidance, the Lions offensive line has shown improvement in pass protection and run blocking, which has been a key factor in the team’s success on offense.

With Fraley expected to stay on as the offensive line coach, the Lions will look to continue building on their progress and develop their young offensive line into a formidable unit in 2022. Stay tuned for more updates on the Lions coaching staff as the offseason progresses.

  • Penei Sewell and Frank Ragnow plan to make sure Hank Fraley stays with the Lions

In line with how good the Detroit Lions offensive line is, offensive line coach Hank Fraley is getting noticed around the league. He interviewed for the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator post a couple weeks ago,, and it’s fair to say those opportunities will continue to come his way.

It’s also possible Fraley follows Ben Johnson or Aaron Glenn if/when they leave the Lions for a head coaching job, to become their offensive coordinator. He is also a natural internal candidate to replace Johnson as the Lions’ offensive coordinator.

Players of course are reticent to lose a coach that means something to them. When the Lions cleaned out their lockers on Sunday, center Frank Ragnow and right tackle both addressed the possibility of losing Fraley when the topic came up.

First up was Ragnow, when asked directly about potential offseason changes including Fraley’s departure.

“No, you refuse to let Hank leave,” Ragnow said. “I haven’t played in this league without Hank and I don’t plan on doing it. I’ll sabotage him, I’ll leak stories, whatever it takes.”

When asked a follow-up question about what Fraley, who arrived as the Lions assistant offensive line coach the same year Ragnow was drafted (2018), means to him, Ragnow dove deeper.

“I don’t think I could play in this league without the guy. He’s everything to me. He’s been there since Day 1,” Ragnow said. “In this league, there are a lot of coaches, but there’s not many coaches like him that empower his players and really it is an open dialogue. He really does everything he can to put us in the best positions to be confident and go out there and play well.

Ragnow then reiterated how Fraley being a former center has impacted him.

“Again, I’ve said it before, but him being a former center in this league has been invaluable to me’, Ragnow said. “Talking about how we see things, and not only him giving me advice, but me telling him how I see it and him being willing to listen. I think that’s so rare, and I’m just so grateful for him.”

Lions offensive lineman won’t let Hank Fraley go easily

Shortly after Ragnow’s comments, Sewell echoed the sentiment.

“Yeah, it’s the same as me,” Sewell said. “He’s not going nowhere at the end of the day. He’s not going nowhere. He’s just been one of those pillars for me in this organization. When I first came in I fell in love with him, and we’ve got a history, too. He was recruiting me in high school when he was at UCLA. So, lotta history between us and our relationship has grown. He’s like coach (Dan) Campbell in terms of a figure in my eyes. So, he’s not going nowhere.”

Rookie offensive lineman Giovanni Manu spoke about how he has built a relationship with Fraley this season.

“I’ve gotten to a point where I feel like I’ve created a good relationship with him,” Manu said. “Not just him, but (assistant offensive line coach) Steve Oliver to a point where I don’t think any other o-line coach understands me more than he does. That’s the only reason why I’d love to have him here for my whole tenure, if I could.”

Ragnow was also sure to credit Fraley’s role in the success of the Lions’ offense, saying “I truly think he would be great” as an offensive coordinator. Perhaps very quickly, everyone will find out what happens with every Lions’ assistant coach who could stay or leave.

Penei Sewell and Frank Ragnow, two key players on the Detroit Lions offensive line, are determined to keep their beloved coach Hank Fraley with the team. Fraley, who has been instrumental in developing the young talent on the offensive line, has been rumored to be a top candidate for coaching positions with other teams.

Sewell and Ragnow, both Pro Bowl-caliber players, have a close relationship with Fraley and credit much of their success to his coaching and mentorship. They understand the importance of continuity and stability on the offensive line, and they are committed to doing whatever it takes to ensure Fraley remains with the Lions.

“We wouldn’t be where we are today without Coach Fraley,” Sewell said in a recent interview. “He’s taught us so much and we owe a lot of our success to him. We’re going to do everything in our power to make sure he stays with us.”

Ragnow echoed Sewell’s sentiments, emphasizing the impact Fraley has had on their development as players.

“We have a special bond with Coach Fraley,” Ragnow said. “He’s like a father figure to us and we want him to continue guiding us on this journey. We’re going to lobby the front office and do whatever we can to keep him here in Detroit.”

With Sewell and Ragnow leading the charge, it’s clear that the Lions offensive line is committed to keeping Fraley in the fold. Their dedication and loyalty to their coach exemplify the strong bond that exists within the team, and their efforts could make a significant impact in ensuring Fraley remains a key part of the Lions organization.

  • Detroit Lions linemen won’t let coach Hank Fraley go

Detroit Lions offensive line coach Hank Fraley is one of the most beloved position coaches on the team, and it’s no surprise he’s starting to gain interest from other teams. He already interviewed for the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator position. It’s also possible Fraley leaves with one of Detroit’s coordinators, should Ben Johnson or Aaron Glenn get a head coaching job.

But if it’s up to the Lions players, they aren’t going to let Fraley leave the building. During locker room cleanout day on Sunday following the team’s Divisional Round loss, both center Frank Ragnow and right tackle Penei Sewell said—seemingly only half-jokingly—that they were going to do everything in their power to get him to stay.

“You refuse to let Hank leave,” Ragnow said. “I haven’t played in this league without Hank and I don’t plan on doing it. I’ll sabotage him, I’ll leak stories, whatever it takes.”

“Yeah, it’s the same as me,” Sewell said minutes later. “He’s not going nowhere at the end of the day. He’s not going nowhere.”

Both Sewell and Ragnow have deep connections to Fraley that go beyond the typical coach/player relationship. For Sewell, their history dates well before draft day in 2021.

“He’s just been one of those pillars for me in this organization,” Sewell said. “When I first came in I fell in love with him, and we’ve got a history, too. He was recruiting me in high school when he was at UCLA. So, lotta history between us and our relationship has grown. He’s like coach (Dan) Campbell in terms of a figure in my eyes. So, he’s not going nowhere.”

For Ragnow, it’s Fraley’s experience as an NFL center himself that makes their relationship so special.

“Again, I’ve said it before, but him being a former center in this league has been invaluable to me. Talking about how we see things, and not only him giving me advice, but me telling him how I see it and him being willing to listen. I think that’s so rare, and I’m just so grateful for him.”

Ragnow and Sewell have already grown into All-Pro talents thanks, in part, to Fraley, but for 2024 fourth-round pick Giovanni Manu, he’s just starting to feel the impact of Fraley’s coaching. The developmental rookie told Fraley directly that he doesn’t want him to get the Seahawks job, as he’s been instrumental to his behind-the-scenes growth.

One possibility for Fraley’s future could be to get promoted internally to Lions offensive coordinator. If Johnson gets a head coaching job elsewhere, Fraley is likely to be one of a few internal candidates to take over, along with assistant head coach/running backs coach Scottie Montgomery and passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand. If it’s Fraley, he’s got Ragnow’s endorsement.

“I truly think he would be great,” Ragnow said. “He’s bright, man. He’s bright. He’s so creative in what he does with this offense. I know Ben gets a lot of the credit or whatever, but Hank, that whole staff, they’re very innovative and creative and they do a really good job.”

With Lions coaches now free to do in-person interviews with any team, we could see movement quickly.

The Detroit Lions linemen have banded together to show their support for offensive line coach Hank Fraley, as reports surfaced that he may be let go by the team. The players have taken to social media to express their admiration for Fraley and the impact he has had on their development and success on the field.

Veteran lineman Frank Ragnow posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, praising Fraley for his dedication, knowledge, and leadership. “Coach Fraley has been instrumental in my growth as a player and as a person. He pushes us to be our best every day and we are better for it,” Ragnow wrote.

Rookie lineman Penei Sewell also shared his thoughts on Twitter, saying, “Coach Fraley has been like a mentor to me since day one. His guidance and expertise have helped me transition to the NFL seamlessly. I can’t imagine our team without him.”

The overwhelming support from the Lions linemen has sparked a petition circulating among fans and players alike, urging the team to retain Fraley for the upcoming season. The hashtag #KeepCoachFraley has been trending on social media, with fans expressing their gratitude for the impact he has had on the team.

It remains to be seen whether the front office will take the players’ sentiments into account when making a decision about Fraley’s future with the team. However, one thing is clear – the Detroit Lions linemen are united in their belief that Coach Hank Fraley should not be let go.
