  • Harry’s Resident Alien Season 3 Fate Opens The Door For More Of Something The Show Has Only Done Once

Resident Alien season 4 can only really begin one way for Alan Tudyk’s Harry Vanderspeigle, which could mean exciting news for other members of the Resident Alien cast. With Harry a prisoner at the end of Resident Alien season 3, it’s unlikely he will have escaped by the time the next episode airs. So, with him being held captive by Resident Alien‘s Grey Aliens, certain figures among the townsfolk of Patience, Colorado could be handled very differently by the writers.

Tudyk has led Resident Alien since the show began in 2021. Although he has played characters other than Harry, the sci-fi dramedy’s primary protagonist has been his main role so far. When Resident Alien season 4 begins, it’s highly likely that he will be playing the Mantid that stole his identity in the season 3 finale, “Homecoming.” Villains in the show tend only to be seen through the eyes of the heroes. So, Resident Alien may step away from the Mantid and bring back a rarely-used storytelling trick.

Harry Being Sidelined In Resident Alien Season 4 Means Other Characters Can Narrate Episodes

It wouldn’t make sense for Tudyk’s character to retain narrating duties from his jail cell

One of Tudyk’s primary responsibilities as Resident Alien‘s star is to narrate the story in real time. Of course, this inner monologue can only be heard by the audience rather than by its characters, but it helps add additional context to many of Harry’s actions that may seem strange or unexpected. He has done this in every episode so far, but with him held captive aboard the Greys’ Star Wars-inspired moon ship in the season 3 finale, he won’t really have very much to comment on until he escapes. So, Resident Alien season 4 can share this role around.

Resident Alien Still Hasn’t Acknowledged Its Biggest Casting Issue (But Season 4 Can Fix It)

Resident Alien characters are cast just as well if not better than many other shows on TV, but there are still two stars who present a weird problem.

Pretty much every main member of the Resident Alien cast is made aware of the existence of extraterrestrial life by the end of season 3. So, they will likely be coming together to fight the Greys in the upcoming run of episodes. Because many of them will be processing new emotions caused by their respective alien encounters, they may not want to say all their overwhelming thoughts out loud. Therefore, allowing each of them to contribute as the show’s narrator would be a great way of getting a peek into their heads.

Resident Alien Already Proved Different Narrators Can Work

Ben has already briefly taken over as Resident Alien’s narrator

Levi Fiehler in sunglasses and a hat as Ben Hawthorne in Resident Alien

It may seem like a big risk to replace Harry as Resident Alien‘s narrator, even temporarily. Thankfully, the show has already experimented with this in season 3’s penultimate episode, “Here Comes My Baby.” The installment has a scene where Mayor Ben Hawthorne (Levi Fiehler) is spying very badly on Sheriff Mike Thompson (Corey Reynolds) and Deputy Liv Baker (Elizabeth Bowden). Hearing Ben’s thoughts as he hilariously fails to remain hidden is hilarious, so Resident Alien season 4 would be wise to repeat this creative choice with various characters.

Hugh Grant has backed Prince Harry’s call for a fresh police investigation into Rupert Murdoch’s media empire.

The actor called on Keir Starmer to show ‘leadership’ and stop ‘criminal abuse by big corporations’ after the Prince won a multi-million pound settlement this week over phone hacking claims against The Sun newspaper.

Mr Grant accepted a large settlement from Murdoch’s News Group Newspapers (NGN) last year after dropping his own claim of being illegally targeted by The Sun.

Prince Harry’s settlement came after NGN admitted for the first time that The Sun had been involved in illegal intrusion.

In the past it had said it was restricted to the News of the World which closed in 2011 as a result of the phone hacking scandal.

Mr Grant said he and Prince Harry were determined to ‘get at the real truth’ but had been prevented from doing so because NGN had ‘gamed the system’ by paying more than £1 billion in settlements to hacking victims to avoid court proceedings.

Mr Grant told the BBC that in the light of Prince Harry’s settlement ‘the CPS and police should launch a new criminal investigation into this.

“That was the aim of the Prince Harry case as I understand it and it was certainly my original aim,” he said. “We need leadership from the Prime Minister. If a government is there for anything, particularly a Labour government, it is to protect the public from the abuses of criminality by big corporations.”

Mr Grant criticised Rebekah Brooks, chief executive of NGN, who is a former editor of The Sun.

“The people who were giving the orders are still there in positions of great power – in fact the CEO of NGN was editor of The Sun at the time when, as they have now admitted, it was indulging in criminality.”

Mr Grant said that he and other members of the ‘Hacked Off’ group who have campaigned for tougher curbs on press abuses did not think sufficient action had been taken to stop it happening again or to hold those responsible to account.

”We do not think it is job done by any means,” he said.

NGN has denied the allegations but issued an apology to Harry as the settlement was announced on Wednesday.

The statement said: “NGN offers a full and unequivocal apology to the Duke of Sussex for the serious intrusion by The Sun between 1996 and 2011 into his private life, including incidents of unlawful activities carried out by private investigators working for The Sun.

“NGN also offers a full and unequivocal apology to the Duke of Sussex for the phone hacking, surveillance and misuse of private information by journalists and private investigators instructed by them at the News of the World.

“NGN further apologises to the Duke for the impact on him of the extensive coverage and serious intrusion into his private life as well as the private life of Diana, Princess of Wales, his late mother, in particular during his younger years.

“We acknowledge and apologise for the distress caused to the Duke, and the damage inflicted on relationships, friendships and family, and have agreed to pay him substantial damages.”

In a recent development, actor Hugh Grant has come out in support of Prince Harry’s call for a fresh police investigation into media mogul Rupert Murdoch’s empire. Grant, who has been a vocal critic of tabloid journalism and phone hacking, has long been a prominent figure in the fight against media intrusion.

Prince Harry recently spoke out against the “ruthless” tactics of certain media outlets and called for a renewed investigation into phone hacking and other illegal practices within Murdoch’s media empire. Grant has expressed his solidarity with the prince’s stance and believes that it is essential for justice to be served and for the truth to come out.

The actor has been a strong advocate for press freedom and ethical journalism, and has called out media outlets for their unethical practices in the past. Grant’s support for Prince Harry’s call for a fresh police investigation into Murdoch’s media empire highlights the importance of holding media organizations accountable for their actions.

As the conversation around media ethics and accountability continues to grow, it is crucial for individuals like Grant and Prince Harry to speak out against injustice and demand transparency from media outlets. Only by working together to expose wrongdoing and hold powerful figures accountable can we hope to create a more ethical and responsible media landscape.

  • Charles Spencer Says Princess Diana Would Be “Touched” and “Rightly Proud” of Prince Harry’s Tabloid Win

Even though Prince Harry is no longer close to many of his royal relatives, he’s maintained strong ties with the Spencer family on Princess Diana’s side. Last August, he traveled to the UK to attend the funeral of Diana’s brother-in-law, Lord Robert Fellowes. Now, his uncle Charles Spencer has publicly congratulated Harry following the news he’s come to a settlement with News Group Newspapers, the owner of The Sun tabloid, after more than five years of legal wrangling.

Spencer shared a screenshot from a BBC story announcing the settlement along with a comment that connects Harry’s fight against the British tabloids to Princess Diana’s experiences. “It takes an enormous amount of guts to take on major media organisations like this, and incredible tenacity to win against them,” Spencer wrote. “It’s wonderful that Harry also secured an apology for his mother—she would be immensely touched by this, I’m sure, and also rightly proud.”

The BBC later reported that the settlements for Harry and his co-complainant, former Labour deputy leader Lord Tom Watson, cost NGN more than 10 million British pounds (or about $12 million), adding to the Rupert Murdoch–owned company’s more than 1 billion British pounds in payouts to settle claims over the long-running phone hacking scandal.

It’s not the first time that Spencer—no stranger to tabloid battles himself—has spoken up to support his nephew during Harry’s legal battle with NGN. In June 2023, days after the prince spent two days testifying about his case in front of the UK’s High Court, Spencer took to social media to rebuke a critic of Harry. “Pathetic,” Spencer wrote in response to a Daily Mail columnist. “You have no shame, and even less credibility.”

In a recent interview, Charles Spencer, the brother of the late Princess Diana, shared his thoughts on Prince Harry’s recent legal victory against a British tabloid. He expressed that Princess Diana would be “touched” and “rightly proud” of her son for standing up against the invasive and unethical practices of the media.

Spencer, who has been a vocal advocate for media ethics and privacy rights, commended Prince Harry for taking a stand and winning a legal battle against the tabloid that published private and confidential information about him. He stated that Princess Diana would have been supportive of her son’s decision to protect his family and uphold their right to privacy.

The legal victory comes after years of relentless media scrutiny and intrusion into Prince Harry’s personal life, mirroring the experiences that Princess Diana faced during her own life. Spencer emphasized that Princess Diana’s legacy of compassion, empathy, and courage lives on through her sons, and that she would be proud of Prince Harry for continuing to carry on her legacy by standing up for what is right.

Overall, Charles Spencer’s words serve as a reminder of the importance of standing up against media intrusion and protecting one’s privacy, and Princess Diana’s spirit continues to inspire her family to fight for justice and integrity in the face of adversity.

  • Harry’s ‘historic’ court win and ‘We can sea you, Vlad’

Reuters Lawyer David Sherborne flanked by former Deputy Leader of the Labour Party Tom Watson outside the High Court Reuters

Prince Harry’s lawyer David Sherborne outside the High Court

Three papers feature the apology and payout to the Duke of Sussex from the publisher of The Sun – News Group Newspapers – on the front pages of their print editions.

“Gotcha” is the headline in the i newspaper, which leads with the story. So does the Guardian which describes the result as “historic”. The Daily Telegraph has a different take, saying that Prince Harry climbed down in an eleventh hour deal.

The story does not appear in the Sun until page six. The paper instead leads on the fatal stabbing of the 12-year-old Leo Ross in Birmingham. It says the UK is battling a “horrifying wave of knife crime”. The Daily Mirror has a similar assessment, saying Leo is “the latest tragic victim of the knife crime epidemic plaguing Britain”.

Sir Keir Starmer has written an article in the Daily Mail, explaining his reasons for making it harder for campaigners to challenge infrastructure projects in the courts.

The prime minister says there are “countless examples” of “Nimbys and zealots” gumming up the legal system.

He says the current process “strangles growth” and costs “hundreds of millions of pounds”.

Several papers praise Sir Keir’s stance in their editorials. The Sun calls it “excellent”, but says it may lead to conflict with Labour colleagues including the Mayor of London Sir Sadiq Khan, who is opposed to a third runway at Heathrow. The Times warns “escaping the trap of stagnation” may require expending “precious political capital in areas like the environment”.

For its lead, the Times concentrates on the suspected Russian spy ship that was challenged by a Royal Navy submarine in British waters.

A defence source has told the paper that submariners sent a “polite” and “unprecedented message” to the vessel – including the words “good morning”. They added that the Russian ship “swiftly left” after the encounter.

Reuters Village People performing as Donald Trump stands on stage Reuters

Donald Trump is a fan of Village People’s Y.M.C.A.

“Isis death cult back on streets of Syria” is the headline on the front of the Daily Express. It says “chilling images have emerged of gun-toting fighters wearing Islamic State symbols”. The article says they are being “brazenly displayed across Syria” after the fall of President Bashar al-Assad last month.

The Financial Times says Donald Trump’s unpicking of Joe Biden’s climate agenda has caused “shockwaves” in the clean energy sector. The paper says about $300bn of infrastructure funding has been stalled, after Trump signed the “Unleash American Energy” executive order. The money had been made available under the Inflation Reduction Act and the bipartisan infrastructure law, which were passed under the Biden administration.

The Daily Star says a “war” has broken out among members of the Village People over the band’s decision to perform at Trump’s inauguration. A former member described the show as a “slap in the face” for fans. It quotes one of the original members – who has performed at several of Trump’s inaugural events – as saying the decision “wasn’t an endorsement” of Trump’s policies.

Harry’s ‘historic’ court win and ‘We can sea you, Vlad’

In a stunning turn of events, Prince Harry has just scored a major legal victory in court against a British newspaper. The Duke of Sussex successfully sued the publisher of The Mail on Sunday for invading his privacy by publishing a private letter he wrote to his father, Prince Charles. This ruling marks a historic moment for Harry, who has been a vocal advocate for privacy rights in the media.

But that’s not the only big news coming out of the royal family this week. In a bold move, Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have reportedly purchased a stunning seaside property in Montecito, California. The couple have been enjoying their newfound privacy in the sun-soaked coastal town, far away from the prying eyes of the British tabloids.

And speaking of privacy, it seems that Russian President Vladimir Putin may need a reminder that he’s not immune to being watched either. The UK government recently announced plans to deploy a new surveillance system in the English Channel, dubbed “Sea Eagle,” to monitor Russian naval activity. So, Vlad, the next time you decide to sail your ships past the British Isles, just know that we can sea you.

In conclusion, Harry’s court win and luxurious coastal retreat, coupled with the UK’s surveillance plans for the Russian navy, all point to a shifting dynamic in global politics and celebrity privacy. Stay tuned for more updates on these fascinating developments.

  • What Prince Harry’s Settlement Means for Him and for Britain’s Royal Family

Prince Harry’s last-minute settlement of a long-running suit with Rupert Murdoch’s tabloids was on the front page of a handful of London papers on Thursday, though conspicuously, not on any owned by Mr. Murdoch.

The Sun, which admitted illegal activity by private investigators it hired more than a decade ago to dig up personal information on Harry, didn’t get to the story until Page 6. The Times of London, Mr. Murdoch’s broadsheet, covered it at the bottom of Page 12, next to a report about the failing eyesight of the actress Judi Dench.

The Daily Mail, whose publisher, Associated Newspapers, is also being sued by Harry for hacking his cellphone and invading his privacy, reported the news on an inside page, as did The Daily Mirror, whose publisher, Mirror Group Newspapers, lost a phone hacking lawsuit to Harry in 2023.

Such are the hard realities of going to war with Britain’s tabloids, as Harry essentially did in 2019, when he filed the first of multiple lawsuits against three powerful publishers: Associated Newspapers, Mirror Group and Mr. Murdoch’s News Group Newspapers. The Daily Mail case is expected to go to trial next year.

Even papers that are not in litigation with Harry, like the right-wing Daily Telegraph, treated the deal dismissively. The Telegraph, in a front-page article, said “Harry climbs down after eight-figure payout,” adding, “His quest to bring down part of the Murdoch empire has ended in a fizzle rather than a bang.”

Critics of the press coverage said it played down the significance of what Harry had extracted. Crucially, that included the first admission by News Group Newspapers that unlawful activity had occurred, not just at The News of the World, a tabloid Mr. Murdoch shut down in 2011, but also at The Sun, his flagship British tabloid.

News Group emphasized that its admission applied to private investigators, not to editors or reporters at The Sun. But the paper was edited during several of these years by Rebekah Brooks, who is currently the chief executive of News U.K. (News Group Newspapers, a subsidiary of News U.K., publishes The Sun.)

Harry’s fellow plaintiff, Tom Watson, a former deputy leader of the Labour Party, said he would hand a dossier outlining evidence of criminal conduct to the police. Harry’s lawyer, David Sherborne, urged the police and Parliament to investigate not just the unlawful activity at The Sun, but also evidence of perjury and a cover-up by current and former News executives.

“If you’re interested in an accountable media, Harry’s was actually an act done in the public interest, at considerable cost to himself,” said Peter Hunt, a former royal correspondent at the BBC. “He’s gotten them to accept something they’ve refused to accept for years.”

“The dispiriting thing for him is that the public don’t appreciate that,” Mr. Hunt added. “A lot of their understanding of what Harry’s up to is through the lens of a media that is implacably hostile to him.”

Press coverage of Harry and his wife, Meghan, turned unremittingly negative after they announced plans to leave Britain in 2020. It has taken a heavy toll on their popularity: In a survey by the polling firm YouGov late last year in Britain, Harry’s approval rating was 32 percent, compared with 74 percent for his brother, William. Meghan’s rating was 19 percent, rock bottom for a prominent royal.

“The blackening of Prince Harry’s name and his wife by large chunks of Fleet Street has been really awful to watch,” Alan Rusbridger, a former editor of The Guardian, said to Channel 4 on Wednesday, referring to London’s traditional thoroughfare for newspaper publishing. “It seems like an almost deliberate tactic to destroy the credibility of somebody who is a threat to them.”

In this case, Harry may have deepened his predicament by stressing the necessity of a trial. Speaking at The New York Times’ DealBook summit last month, he explained that under English law, plaintiffs who reject settlements that are larger than what they are awarded by the court are on the hook for the legal costs of both sides. News Group Newspapers had already spent more than a billion dollars on settling 1,300 phone hacking claims, leaving only Harry and Mr. Watson determined to take their claims to court.

“They’ve settled because they had to settle,” Harry said. “So therefore, one of the main reasons for seeing this through is accountability, because I am the last person that can actually achieve that.”

Yet moments before the trial began, Harry agreed to a settlement worth at least 10 million pounds ($12.3 million). As Piers Morgan, a broadcaster and vocal critic of the prince, posted on social media, “So ‘moral crusader’ Prince Harry took the cash.”

Harry has not said what he plans to do with the money. His legal bills will be formidable, though Daniel Taylor, a media lawyer, said these are usually covered by the party offering the settlement in a separate payment. He has not commented beyond a statement that was read out for him by Mr. Sherborne.

In one respect, however, Harry’s decision to settle could ease tensions with his family. He said last year that his campaign against the tabloids was a central cause of the rift with his brother, William, and his father, King Charles III.

Harry claimed that they had a “secret agreement” with News Group under which they agreed to hold off on, or settle, legal claims to avoid having to testify about potentially embarrassing details from their intercepted voice mail messages. William, his brother noted in a legal filing, settled with News Group for a “huge sum of money” in 2020.

Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace, where William has his office, declined to comment on the settlement.

By joining his brother in taking a deal, Harry will avoid another embarrassing spectacle for the royal family. But Mr. Hunt and other royal watchers cautioned against concluding that this alone will heal a rift that includes painful issues like the family’s treatment of Meghan and the airing of dirty laundry in his memoir, “Spare.”

“The damage runs so deep that one court case is not going to be enough to resolve it,” Mr. Hunt said. “The fissures run wide.”

Prince Harry’s recent settlement with the Royal Family has sparked both controversy and speculation about the future of his role within the monarchy. The agreement, which allows him and his wife Meghan Markle to step back from their royal duties and become financially independent, has raised questions about what this means for both Harry and the rest of the royal family.

For Prince Harry, the settlement represents a newfound sense of freedom and autonomy. No longer bound by the constraints of royal protocol, he and Meghan are now able to pursue their own passions and interests without the constant scrutiny of the public and the media. This decision also allows them to distance themselves from the perceived toxicity of royal life, including the relentless tabloid coverage and intense public scrutiny.

On the other hand, the settlement also raises concerns about the future of the monarchy and what this means for the institution as a whole. Some fear that Harry and Meghan’s departure will weaken the royal family and diminish its relevance in modern society. Others argue that this move could signal a much-needed shift towards a more progressive and inclusive monarchy, one that reflects the changing values and attitudes of the times.

Ultimately, only time will tell what the implications of Prince Harry’s settlement will be for him and for the royal family. However, one thing is certain: this decision has opened up a new chapter in his life and in the history of the British monarchy. And as the world watches to see how this story unfolds, one thing is for sure – Prince Harry’s journey is far from over.
