  • Tom Welling Addresses His Least Favorite Storyline In Smallville: “I Hated It”

Tom Welling explains what his least Smallville storyline was and why he had issues with that specific arc in the DC TV drama.

During their appearance at this year’s Fan Expo New Orleans the Smallville cast discussed storylines from the show’s decade-long run. In Welling’s case, he brought up that his least favorite arc during Smallville‘s trajectory was the Red Blue Blur saga, as the cast had the following exchange about it:

Tom Welling: I’ll tell you my least favorite was the Red Blue Blur stuff.

Erica Durance: I was going to say it’s my favorite because you hated it so much!

Tom Welling: I hated it! You saw me being just disgruntled.

    Erica Durance: It was weird!

Tom Welling: I knew it needed to happen because we were… we were dying! [laughs]

Erica Durance: But it was really hard to say Red Blue Blur.

    Laura Vandervoort: What…

Tom Welling, who portrayed Clark Kent in the hit TV series Smallville, recently sat down for an interview where he addressed his least favorite storyline from the show.

“I have to say, I absolutely hated the whole Lana Lang love triangle storyline,” Welling admitted. “It just felt so forced and cliché to me. I didn’t feel like it added anything meaningful to Clark’s journey as a character.”

Welling went on to explain that he felt the writers could have explored more interesting and complex storylines for Clark, rather than relying on tired romantic tropes.

“I think Smallville had so much potential to delve deeper into Clark’s struggles with his identity and powers, but instead, we got caught up in this love triangle drama that felt out of place,” Welling said.

Despite his dislike for the storyline, Welling acknowledged that it was a big part of the show’s success and popularity among fans.

“I understand that the love triangle was a big draw for a lot of viewers, and I appreciate that they enjoyed it,” Welling said. “But personally, it was not my favorite part of the show.”

Fans of Smallville may have mixed feelings about Welling’s comments, but it’s clear that the actor had strong opinions about the direction of his character’s story.

  • The one actor Burt Reynolds hated working with the most

Burt Reynolds might never have achieved the dramatic prowess of Marlon Brando or the industry influence of Clint Eastwood, but he was an undisputed star in his heyday, balancing rugged masculinity with self-aware humour. Movies like Smokey and the Bandit made him an icon of the 1970s, while his breakout role in John Boorman’s Deliverance proved that he could do more than project charisma.

Reynolds secured his start as an actor after an injury forced him to stop playing college football. He knocked around on television for a while, playing cops and hunky blacksmiths before he bridged the gap to movies. He hit the peak of his career in the late 1970s and early ‘80s, playing hyper-masculine characters in movies like Semi-Tough and Cannonball Run. He rarely appeared in critically acclaimed movies, but it didn’t matter; he was one of the most popular stars in America.

By the late ‘80s, however, Reynolds’ career was faltering. His characters were becoming more and more repetitive, and he was in danger of becoming a parody of himself. During this period, he made a string of box office bombs, including one which involved his worst experience with a female co-star.

The film was 1988’s Switching Channels, a remake of the 1928 play (and 1931 film) The Front Page, which was also adapted into the classic 1940 romantic comedy His Girl Friday. Reynolds stars as the director of a cable network whose ex-wife, played by Kathleen Turner, is his star news anchor. They spar constantly, but ultimately, of course, fall madly back in love. Unfortunately, things were not so romantic off-screen. In a 2018 interview with The Palm Springs Desert Sun, Reynolds identified the film as one of his biggest professional mistakes, pointing directly to Turner as the cause.

“That was the only leading lady I couldn’t get along with at all,” he confessed. “She had this thing about me and she was probably right. I didn’t know what the hell I was doing. But, at least I was trying to be nice to everybody.”

When the interviewer asked whether he was talking about Turner, Reynolds simply replied, “Yep.” He may as well have said, “Next question” while he was at it.

This is a fairly diplomatic description of an unpleasant on-set experience, especially considering that Reynolds was not the only one who found Turner to be a challenging co-star. Although she was one of the most prominent actors in the ‘80s with movies like Romancing the Stone, Body Heat, and Peggy Sue Got Married, she frequently clashed with other actors and suffered a sharp career decline.

For her part, Turner was equally unimpressed with Reynolds and once said that he was responsible for the worst on-screen kiss of her career. In a 2018 interview with Vanity Fair, she gave her side of the feud.

“Working with Burt Reynolds was terrible,” she said, revealing that he made her cry on the very first day of shooting. “He said something about not taking second place to a woman,” she continued. “His behaviour was shocking. It never occurred to me that I wasn’t someone’s equal.”

Needless to say, they never worked together again.

Burt Reynolds was known for his charming demeanor and laid-back attitude, but there was one actor he absolutely despised working with. That actor was none other than Chevy Chase.

Reynolds and Chase starred together in the 1983 film “Deal of the Century,” and from the moment they met, it was clear that they did not get along. Reynolds found Chase to be arrogant, disrespectful, and constantly trying to upstage him on set.

According to Reynolds, Chase would often make snide remarks about his acting abilities and try to outshine him in every scene. This behavior quickly wore on Reynolds, and he made it known that he would never work with Chase again.

Despite their on-screen chemistry, the tension between Reynolds and Chase was palpable, and their working relationship quickly soured. Reynolds later admitted that working with Chase was one of the most unpleasant experiences of his career.

In Hollywood, where egos often clash, it’s not uncommon for actors to butt heads on set. But for Burt Reynolds, working with Chevy Chase was a nightmare he never wanted to relive.

  • US tennis star is dubbed ‘the most hated player in the sport’ after slapping her behind and mocking Australian Open crowd after beating local underdog

An American tennis star has been dubbed the ‘most hated player in the sport’ after she was seen slapping her backside and mocking the crowd of the Australian Open who were supporting the local underdog.

Danielle Collins’ celebrations of her victory over home hopeful Destanee Aiava were slammed as ‘lacking class.’

Collins cupped her hand to her ear and blew kisses to the crowd after beating the Australian qualifier 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 in the second round of the women’s singles event.

The American was then seen slapping her backside before rounding on home fans for booing her in a post-match interview.

‘During the match I was like, ‘while I’m out here I might as well take that big fat pay check’,’ Collins said while being booed in her on court interview.

‘We love a five star vacation, so a big part of that will go towards that.

‘So thank you guys, thanks for coming out here and supporting us tonight. Thank you guys, love you.’

Bild reported that she has become the ‘most hated player in the sport’, while Australian news site said Collins ‘lacks class.’

The American star boasted of claiming a ‘big fat paycheck’ by reaching the third round

Collins overcame Australian qualifier Destanee Aiava in three sets before taking on the crowd

The American, the tournament 10th seed, doubled down in another interview court side.

Collins, who made the Australian Open final back in 2022, has already scooped £147,000 ($USD180,000/AU$290,000) in prize money by reaching the third round.

The 31-year-old, who reversed her decision to retire at the end of last season, doubled down on her on court comments in her press conference.

Collins said: ‘Well I’m going to be here for two hours, putting up with all these people, I might as well take the bigger pay check, right?’

‘I was super happy to do that and one of the greatest things about being a professional athlete are that the people that don’t like you and that hate you, they actually pay your bills.

‘It’s kind of a cool concept and obviously my professional career is not going to last forever and I just remind myself every day when I have that kind of stuff that they’re paying my bills.

‘Every person that has bought a ticket and has come out here to heckle me can do what they do. It’s all going towards the Danielle Collins fund. So like, yeah, bring it on I love it.’

When asked about her holiday plans, Collins expressed a desire to have a luxury trip to the Bahamas.

‘Me and my girlfriends we love a five-star holiday so I can guarantee that next check is going to go towards a five-star trip, hopefully to the Bahamas.

‘We like boats. Big boats. We like yachts. Yeah, we’ll post about it and let you guys know how it goes.’

Australian news site News.com.au pointed out that Destanee Aiava has openly admitted to struggling financially.

The world no.165 said after her qualifying and Round 1 victories gave her prize money of more than $200,000: ‘It means that I can bring someone to travel with this year, and I can afford to actually go to all the tournaments that I want to.

‘Financially tennis is so expensive. I struggle travelling on my own. The fact that I get to bring my fiancee with me and hopefully one of my family members to the big ones, it makes a world of a difference.’

Collins decision to hit back at the Australian crowd received was slammed by some on social media.

‘Does Danielle Collins not realise she is playing an Australian in Australia?’ one post read.

‘What does she expect the crowd to do? They’re going to support the home player, get over it.

    ‘Zero class from Collins tonight’.

Another added ‘Danielle Collins. Through to the next round without a semblance of class.’

Collins will now face an all-American match against Madison Keys in the third round of the tournament.

  • Mitt Romney, lionized in 2024, was hated by the left in 2012

Mitt Romney, lionized in 2024, was hated by the left in 2012

To the editor: According to Opinion contributing writer Lanhee J. Chen, a candidate for California state controller in 2022, Sen. Mitt Romeny’s (R-Utah) two decades of public service were “historic” because he was a centrist Republican, and he tried to work in a bipartisan manner. (“Romney’s Senate exit marks an end to the bipartisanship Washington desperately needs,” Opinion, Dec. 24)

However, when Romney was running for president against the incumbent Barack Obama in 2012, the left caricatured him as a jerk who would put his dog in a crate on top of his car when he took his family on vacation.

It’s always entertaining how politics are played on both sides of the coin depending on expediency.

    David Waldowski, Laguna Woods

In 2012, Mitt Romney was the target of intense criticism and animosity from the left during his presidential campaign against Barack Obama. He was painted as an out-of-touch millionaire who only cared about the wealthy and would enact policies that would harm the middle and lower classes.

Fast forward to 2024, and Mitt Romney is now being lionized by many on the left for his willingness to stand up against the divisive and destructive policies of the Trump administration. He has become a voice of reason and moderation in a political landscape that has become increasingly polarized.

This shift in public perception of Romney highlights the ever-changing nature of politics and the complexities of individual politicians. While he may have been reviled in the past, his actions in the present have earned him newfound respect and admiration from those who once viewed him with disdain.

It serves as a reminder that politicians are not static figures, but rather individuals who can evolve and change over time. And in Romney’s case, his evolution has led to a surprising turnaround in public opinion and a newfound appreciation for his willingness to stand up for what he believes is right.

  • The Steven Spielberg movie Samuel L Jackson hated

The Steven Spielberg movie Samuel L Jackson hated

As one of Hollywood’s most recognisable stars, Samuel L Jackson has appeared in his fair share of acclaimed movies, rising to prominence in the late 1980s with roles in Spike Lee movies like Do The Right Thing and Mo’ Better Blues. He soon appeared in other celebrated movies like Goodfellas, Jurassic Park, Pulp Fiction, and True Romance, establishing himself as a Hollywood icon.

In the years since, Jackson has been seen in a wide variety of movies, often working with Quentin Tarantino. Alongside Pulp Fiction, he has also appeared in Jackie Brown, Kill Bill Vol. 2, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, and The Hateful Eight – clearly, Tarantino considers him a favourite. The actor has also found himself in the Star Wars franchise and several Marvel movies, as well as lending his voice to The Incredibles and various other animated films.

However, during the time he was breaking through into the industry, it was perhaps Jurassic Park that introduced Jackson to the mainstream. He played Ray Arnold, an engineer who is killed off-screen. Still, most people can remember his character, whose arm is later discovered by Laura Dern’s Ellie. Directed by Steven Spielberg, one of the most successful Hollywood figures of all time, the movie was the first massive blockbuster that Jackson was cast in.

Yet, Jackson has since had some negative things to say about a later Spielberg film, and we’d be surprised if the filmmaker ever casts Jackson in one of his movies again. While cinema is rather subjective, and Jackson is more than entitled to his opinion, he hilariously shared it very publicly. The actor was not a fan of Lincoln, the 2012 biopic that chronicled the end of the 16th President of the United States’ life. He was played by Hollywood royalty Daniel Day-Lewis, who earned a ‘Best Actor’ Oscar for his incredible performance.

For Jackson, the movie just wasn’t up to scratch. “I don’t understand why it didn’t just end when Lincoln is walking down the hall and the butler gives him his hat,” he revealed (via The Los Angeles Times). “Why did I need to see him dying on the bed? I have no idea what Spielberg was trying to do,” the actor continued before summing up his thoughts, “I didn’t need the assassination at all. Unless he’s going to show Lincoln getting his brains blown out. And even then, why am I watching it? The movie had a better ending ten minutes before.”

Lincoln was nominated for ‘Best Picture’ and ‘Best Director’ at the Oscars, with many critics heaping praise on the epic movie, believing it to be a significant cinematic achievement. With Day-Lewis in the leading role, it wasn’t hard to guess that the movie would become a massive success, but there were also fantastic performances from other actors, including Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Tommy Lee Jones.

So, while Jackson wasn’t a fan, it seems he was in the minority. The actor has always been rather outspoken, however, and it’s often refreshing to hear stars honestly sharing their opinions on movies without fearing the potential repercussions.

In a surprising twist, legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg found himself at odds with none other than actor Samuel L. Jackson over their collaboration on the movie “The Color Purple.” Despite being critically acclaimed and receiving multiple Oscar nominations, Jackson was vocal about his dissatisfaction with the film and his role in it.

In a candid interview, Jackson expressed his frustration with Spielberg’s direction and the way his character was portrayed on screen. He felt that his role as Mister was one-dimensional and lacked depth, ultimately leading to his disdain for the movie as a whole.

Despite the controversy surrounding their collaboration, “The Color Purple” remains a beloved and important film in Spielberg’s filmography. However, the rift between Spielberg and Jackson serves as a reminder that even the most successful collaborations can sometimes lead to creative differences and disagreements.

  • The one character Woody Harrelson hated playing

The one character Woody Harrelson hated playing

Woody Harrelson has done a lot in his career. He played loveable barman Woody Boyd on Cheers for eight years and became TV royalty in the process. He has been nominated for three Academy Awards and starred in a host of classic films, including White Men Can’t Jump, Natural Born Killers, Zombieland, and No Country For Old Men. He also tried directing once and refused to do it the easy way, putting together a project that would make experienced helmers wake up in a cold sweat. Hell, he even starred in that film as well and somehow conspired to create a character that he hated playing – even though he was portraying himself.

The origin of this unique film goes back to 2002 when Harrelson found himself in a spot of hot water in London. After a messy evening at the China White nightclub, Harrelson hopped in a taxi to take him back to his hotel. For some reason, though, he freaked out and broke an ashtray and a lock in the back of the cab. The driver told The Sun, “I turned round, and he was kicking the inside of my taxi. He had suddenly gone completely bonkers. He was kicking the glass and trying to get out. I tried to find a space to pull over, but he had already yanked back the door and broken it.”

Harrelson hot-footed it from the scene of the crime and hailed another cab, all while the first taxi driver and the police were chasing him down. The second taxi was eventually stopped in Sloane Square, where Harrelson again attempted to run from the law. The famous star was then arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and wound up spending a night in the cells.

In 2018, Harrelson admitted to Entertainment Weekly, “It was probably the least fun night I ever had and one that I was anxious to forget.” No one knows for sure what caused his outburst, but in 2017, he hinted to The Guardian that something bad may have gone down in China White, saying, “It was hellish. I’m never going to that club again.”

Over the years, though, despite wishing he could forget the embarrassing night ever happened, Harrelson couldn’t stop thinking about it. Spending a night in a prison cell wasn’t anything particularly new to the reformed hellraiser, but still, the horrible evening stuck with him like a bad smell. He was adamant, “There wasn’t a speck of humour in it. It was a complete bummer,” but with enough time removed from the situation, he began to think, “Hey, this could be pretty funny.”

So, Harrelson began writing a semi-autobiographical script about his crazy night in England’s capital, changing some elements to increase the humour quota. He also altered the celebrities he ran into on that fateful night—Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire—because he struggled to make their scene funny and included his buddies Owen Wilson and Willie Nelson instead.

The actor then came up with a crazy idea for the film, which he titled Lost in London. It would be shot live on January 19th, 2017, and live-streamed in a select group of cinemas worldwide. This meant the rookie director was handling a live shoot with 30 actors and 14 shooting locations, as well as extensive car and foot chase scenes. It was a mammoth task for Harrelson to coordinate, let alone think about his performance as a fictionalised version of himself – and maybe he should have paid more attention to that.

In a 2019 interview with Metro, Harrelson admitted, “This is probably one of the least likeable characters I’ve ever played, and I’m playing me. So, I wish I had made some reason to like him a little more.”

Strange actorly self-loathing aside, though, the project was therapeutic for Harrelson, who saw it as a mea culpa of sorts for a night that could have cost him much more than a simple black mark on his reputation. He conclusively described to EW, “I’d say it’s a deep, soul-searching comedy. It’s about a guy who has it all and runs the risk of losing it all. And then, hopefully, ends up with this shot at redemption.”

In his long and illustrious career, Woody Harrelson has taken on a wide range of characters, from the lovable bartender in “Cheers” to the ruthless villain in “Natural Born Killers.” But there is one character that he has openly admitted to hating playing: Haymitch Abernathy in “The Hunger Games” franchise.

Haymitch Abernathy is a complex character, a former winner of the deadly Hunger Games who becomes a mentor to Katniss and Peeta. He is a jaded, alcoholic recluse who struggles with his own demons while trying to guide the young tributes to victory in the brutal games. Harrelson has said that he found it difficult to connect with Haymitch and that he didn’t enjoy portraying such a dark and troubled character.

Despite his personal feelings towards the character, Harrelson’s performance as Haymitch was widely praised by critics and fans alike. His portrayal added depth and nuance to the character, making him a standout in the film series. While he may have disliked playing Haymitch, there is no denying that Harrelson brought his A-game to the role and delivered a memorable performance.

In the end, it seems that even the most talented actors can have characters that they don’t particularly enjoy playing. But in the case of Woody Harrelson and Haymitch Abernathy, it was a case of personal preference rather than a lack of skill or commitment. And for that, we can still appreciate the powerful and impactful performance that Harrelson delivered in “The Hunger Games.”
