I’ve navigated Marvel Rivals’ chaotic ranked play and dragged myself out of Plat hell, which means it’s time to start preparing to do it all over again next season
At the beginning of every season in Marvel Rivals, each player will get a rank reset and will be demoted around seven tiers (unless they’re already floating around the bottom), meaning they’ll all just get grouped in Bronze 3. This reset has meant that the first half of Season 1 has—what I can only imagine—felt like a free-for-all fistfight inside a house that’s on fire, and every so often, one of your teammates pours gasoline everywhere—so, yeah, it’s been fun.
After climbing up to Diamond in Season 0, I started this season off in Silver 1. I actually wasn’t aware of just how severe this rank reset was going to be, and I was unpleasantly surprised to realise I would be back fighting in Silver and Gold lobbies.
For those of you who don’t know what it’s like to play in these lobbies, first off, count yourself lucky. Secondly, they can be pretty hit-and-miss when it comes to skill and your teammates actually having brain cells—I’ve played alongside a Spider-Man who was just as helpful as a pineapple with a mouse and keyboard.
As per usual, the quality of your teammates can vary—as can the amount of sweat you need to put into pulling out a W. Most of the games were an easy win, but every now and then, I’d come across a team from hell; at this point, we’d get humbled and easily crushed by the opposition.
There’s nothing more soul-destroying than seeing a Grand Master on the other team as you’re loading into a ranked game. Players who finished at GM or Eternity last season get a silver crest of honour (this will also apply to those who finish in Celestial going forward), so you can always tell when you’re in for a hard time. Players that have this crest aren’t necessarily going to win 100% of the time, but they are responsible for some of the hardest matches I’ve come across.
(Image credit: NetEase) A couple of nights ago, I came across a team in which four out of the six players had this icon. The match was on Yggdrasill Path, and we were on attack first. Getting those goats through the first game was like trying to wade through wet cement. Despite my entire team putting up a decent fight, we weren’t able to win.
It was a close game, mind, which soothes my pride—but my team definitely had a harder time trying to keep up with the opposition. They were impressively coordinated to the point where they were synchronising point pushes and flanks on our strategists, staggering their ults, and tracking ours without fail.
But that’s just part of the game of trying to rank up in Marvel Rivals. It seems to be pretty commonplace that after a few good wins, players will then come up against a crushing loss. I’ve seen tons of players discuss just how tough Marvel Rivals’ competitive losing streak can be and how sometimes it just doesn’t feel like a fair fight at all.
“I am not upset about losing; what upsets me the most is that there was zero shot of winning the match,” one player says. “When I get to rank 1 in a tier, and I’m close to ranking up, the party matchmaker gives me the most heinous group of people to play with. Instalocking dps, getting zero kills, and spreading out to the four corners of the map for no reason. That one random guy who loads in five minutes after the match starts. Getting straight stomped, to the point the other team is confused as to why they got a bot match in competitive.”
I’ve had my fair share of loss streaks, but as long as you perform well in each match, your last season’s rating will cushion the blow somewhat until the game is around long enough for MMR to properly kick in. I’ve lost six games in a row before and only fell two tiers; then, after winning two games, I rose back to Plat 1. It is a bit messy, but until you start losing the same amount of competitive points for a loss as you gain for a win, it means the SBMM doesn’t think you’ve found your forever rank.
Speaking from experience
(Image credit: NetEase) Even still, sometimes it’s not enough to rely on the obscure and sometimes cruel gods of ranked matchmaking to help you rank up. There are a few variables that you can control, which will help you climb up the ranks.
The easy one is to start early. While the first few weeks of a new season, after a rank reset, are pretty chaotic, I’ve seen that it can be harder to rank up if you leave it too late and get stuck with players who should actually be placed in the lower tiers. One of my mates left it too late to climb with us, and fought against some real characters to get within queuing distance of our squad. We’d hear horror stories every night, like the one time he came across a Spider-Man player who was adamant that he could act as a tank.
The easiest way to circumvent the frustration of having sporadic teammates is to queue with the same people.
Apart from communicating with a team, learning to track ultimates (especially ones that can counter you), learning a wide range of heroes across the roles, and keeping on top of the current meta, the best, easiest way to climb is to just queue alongside a team.
Like every other team-based competitive shooter, the worst part of a match is always the players. Unlike games like CS2 or Valorant, where an individual player can really make a difference in the outcome of a match, Marvel Rivals relies on teamwork to win matches. That’s not to say an individual can’t make a game-saving play, but there is a limit as to how much one person can carry an entire team.
So, the easiest way to circumvent the frustration of having sporadic teammates is to queue with the same people. Having a recurring team takes some of the coin flip out of your climbing, plus it’s easier to coordinate attacks when you’re playing with people you know and have practiced with.
But probably the best tip I’ve heard when it comes to playing competitive queue in Marvel Rivals is to try not to take it too seriously. I understand that this is easier said than done, but having gone from being too invested and competitive in Overwatch 2 to not actually caring if I rank up or down has not just helped my mental, but also meant that I actually enjoy most of the competitive games I play. At the end of the day, it’s all just pixels, and the most important part is that you actually have a fun time, not just a successful one—on the other hand, both. Both is good.
I’ve navigated Marvel Rivals’ chaotic ranked play and dragged myself out of Plat hell, which means it’s time to start preparing to do it all over again next season. After countless hours of grinding, strategizing, and sometimes even raging, I’ve finally made it out of Plat hell in Marvel Rivals. The road to this point has been long and arduous, filled with tough opponents, frustrating losses, and exhilarating victories.
But now that I’ve reached the coveted rank of Diamond, I know that the real work is just beginning. With a new season on the horizon, it’s time to start preparing for the next climb up the ladder. This means refining my deck, studying the meta, and staying on top of the latest strategies and trends in the game.
It’s a daunting task, to be sure. But I know that with determination, perseverance, and a healthy dose of luck, I can once again rise through the ranks and prove my skills as a top Marvel Rivals player.
So here’s to the next season, full of new challenges, new opportunities, and hopefully, a few more shiny new ranks to add to my collection. Bring it on, Marvel Rivals. I’m ready for whatever you throw at me.

Tim Walz calls losing 2024 race ‘pure hell’ in rare post-election interview
Former Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz said in a new interview on Tuesday that it’s been “pure hell” since his party lost the presidential election last November.
Speaking with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, the Minnesota governor was asked what advice he’d give to “average people” who oppose the agenda President Donald Trump has implemented since he returned to office.
“You know that overused term, ‘The frog in the boiling water?’ We’ve been in the damn pot way too long,” Walz said. “I think it is speaking up. It’s thinking about your neighbors. It’s writing and putting those members of Congress – look, there is no spine among those folks – but this is real.”
Walz then offered some sympathy to exhausted Democratic voters.
“To the voters, I’m with this too. Everybody’s fatigued. Trust me, I get it,” Walz said. “It was pure hell, and the disappointment and the frustration, and I’m, you know, soul-searching – what could we have done to make the case? Because we knew this was coming. We knew the implication. And they’re throwing so much at us that we’re fatigued.”
TIM WALZ ADMITS HE WAS SURPRISED BY ELECTION DEFEAT: ‘THOUGHT THE COUNTRY WAS READY’

The Democratic governor went on to complain how the country spent three days debating whether billionaire Trump ally and Department of Government Efficiency co-founder Elon Musk, who he referred to “President Musk,” had given a “Nazi salute” at a Trump inauguration rally last week.
“Of course he did, but that is a distraction from what, I think you said it, this is ‘game on’ stuff right here,” Walz continued. “And I am worried with these federal employees because look, they’re in a tough spot, that some of these folks, especially those that are doing good work around environmental concerns, around justice for people, around, you know, criminal justice reform, all of the things that make our society better.”
Walz urged Democrats to not “take the bait on the distractions” as President Trump implements his agenda. (Al Drago/Bloomberg via Getty Images)
“So I would tell people stay focused. Don’t take the bait on the distractions. Surround yourself with people who understand this, and recognize the things they went after today are basically a big chunk of what society does, and people like to have clean water, and hospitals, and safety, and roads, and airports, all the things that they are going after… We have to find that voice. We have to push back. We have to be organized,” Walz later added, discussing the pausing of federal grants.
Walz also urged Democrats to “use the courts” but expressed caution, suggesting Trump won’t care what the courts say even if his party took that route.

“I think it’s taking it to the individual people. Show what each of these programs does and what it means for people’s lives,” Walz said.
“Yeah,” Maddow agreed. “No matter what people motivated anybody’s vote, if you didn’t think you were voting to cut firefighting, if you didn’t think you were voting to cut meat inspections, if you didn’t think you were voting to cut air traffic control, well it’s all becoming very, very clear right now.”
Maddow incorrectly asserted her one-on-one with Walz was his “first interview since the presidential election,” although it was his first national one. Walz spoke with several local Minnesota outlets in December after losing the 2024 race.
In a shocking revelation, former Minnesota Governor Tim Walz opened up about the emotional toll of losing the 2024 race in a rare post-election interview. Walz, who was defeated by his Republican opponent in a closely contested race, described the experience as “pure hell.”Speaking candidly about the challenges of facing defeat after serving as governor for four years, Walz admitted that the loss took a significant toll on his mental and emotional well-being. “Losing an election is never easy, but this one was especially tough,” he said. “It felt like everything I had worked for was suddenly taken away from me.”
Despite the disappointment and heartache of losing the race, Walz expressed gratitude for the support he received from his family, friends, and supporters throughout the campaign. He also emphasized the importance of moving forward and finding new ways to serve the people of Minnesota.
As he looks towards the future, Walz remains committed to continuing his work in public service and making a positive impact in his community. While the road ahead may be challenging, he is determined to persevere and overcome the obstacles that come his way.
The interview with Tim Walz offers a rare glimpse into the personal struggles and emotions that politicians face after losing an election. It serves as a reminder of the human side of politics and the resilience required to bounce back from defeat.

Barcelona star Gavi has declared that only Lionel Messi is better than his teenage team-mate Lamine Yamal.
Although Barcelona’s league form has dipped since November, putting them third in La Liga, they have shone in cup competitions. Hansi Flick’s squad are runners-up in the Champions League standings and have secured their spot in the round of 16. They also advanced to the Copa del Rey quarter-finals following a 5-1 win over Real Betis.
Teenage winger Yamal has consistently grabbed the limelight, inevitably drawing comparisons with Messi . The 17-year-old made his mark on the global stage by helping Spain clinch Euro 2024, followed by scoring nine goals and providing 12 assists for Barcelona this season. Yamal’s recent standout performance against Betis prompted Gavi to rank him alongside an all-time great.

“For me, he is the best in the world, second only to Messi,” Gavi told Sport , swiftly dismissing any direct comparisons. “Lamine is very good, the best at the moment. But it’s silly to compare him with Messi because there will only be one.
“Messi is unique. Just like there will only be one Xavi, one Iniesta or one Busquets. We have to carve our own path. Lamine is the best right now, and I hope he continues like that.”
The buzz around Yamal’s burgeoning career continues to grow, with Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi also telling journalists: “I have enjoyed Lamine for many years, and now everyone is enjoying him.”
While Yamal has expressed a desire to focus on his career rather than trying to emulate Messi, the parallels between the two are undeniable. From posing in a photo shoot with Messi as a small child to taking over his iconic no.10 jersey at Barcelona, Yamal’s connection to the club legend is unmistakable.
Messi acknowledged this link in December, recognizing Yamal as the player most like his younger self. “There’s a very good generation of young footballers who have many years ahead of them,” Messi explained in December.
“If I have to choose someone, because of the age and because of the future that he has, I’ve heard that they have chosen Lamine Yamal and without doubt [it’s him] for me, too. I agree it depends on him and many things because that’s how soccer is, but he’s the present and without a doubt has a huge future.”
In the world of football, there are few players who can rival the skill, talent, and sheer brilliance of my team-mate. One of those players is Lionel Messi.Messi is undoubtedly one of the greatest footballers of all time, with an impressive list of accolades and records to his name. His dribbling, vision, and goal-scoring prowess are unmatched by many in the sport. However, despite all of his accomplishments, there is one thing that Messi will never be able to replicate – the unique style and flair of my team-mate.
My team-mate possesses a certain je ne sais quoi on the pitch that sets him apart from the rest. His creativity, unpredictability, and ability to make the impossible look effortless make him a true artist of the game. While Messi may have the stats and the trophies, he will never be able to replicate the magic that my team-mate brings to every match.
So yes, Lionel Messi may be the only player better than my team-mate in the eyes of many. But when it comes down to it, there is no one quite like my team-mate on the pitch. And that is something that Messi will never be able to change.

Trump warns he’ll adjourn Congress to make recess appointments. How would that work?
President Trump is threatening to use his powers to adjourn Congress so he can make recess appointments for at least some of his top Cabinet nominees and their deputies, enabling them to begin running the largest federal departments.
Mr. Trump most recently raised the prospect of plunging the executive and legislative branches into uncharted constitutional territory during his White House meeting Tuesday with Senate Majority Leader John Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson, mulling the option if Democrats opt to slow-walk or delay his top national security and public health nominees, according to two people familiar with the meetings.
“This remains a significant possibility in the eyes of the White House,” one of the people familiar with the meetings said, emphasizing this is not expected to happen this week, but remains under active consideration.
Mr. Trump has signaled he wants the Senate to move quickly to confirm his top Cabinet picks, and Republican senators have said for weeks they want to move swiftly, particularly on his top national security appointments. On Monday night, the Senate unanimously confirmed Marco Rubio as secretary of state, but votes on John Ratcliffe to serve as CIA director, Pete Hegseth to serve as defense secretary, and Kristi Noem to serve as homeland security secretary, are still in the queue for consideration.
Procedural issues are delaying those votes, with Democrats slowing consideration of Ratcliffe and Republicans warning they’ll hold a final up-or-down vote on him over the weekend, if necessary.
It is unclear how long Mr. Trump would recess Congress, given that a possible government shutdown looms in mid-March and Republican leaders have set an April goal of passing massive economic, tax and immigration legislation that would authorize Mr. Trump’s plans to cut inflation and taxes and dramatically overhaul border security policy.
How can Trump adjourn Congress?
The second clause of Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution gives the president the power to convene the House and Senate in certain cases. While presidents over the course of U.S. history have frequently summoned both chambers for special sessions, or the Senate to vote on key nominees or treaties, no president has ever exercised his constitutional power to adjourn the two chambers.
The lack of precedent means any Trump decision to adjourn the Senate would likely face immediate legal challenge ultimately resulting in appeals to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Here’s one example of how it would work: The House is scheduled to leave Washington for up to 10 days starting Friday, so the two parties can hold their annual policy retreats. The GOP-controlled House could pass a resolution formally adjourning for that length of time and send the resolution to the Senate. The upper chamber, where at least 60 votes would be needed to consider a consent resolution, would either also adjourn or fail to agree to do so. Under the Constitution, both houses of Congress must agree to adjourn for more than three days. If the Senate does not agree, the president could try using his adjournment power to send the Senate home, launching the executive and legislative branches into uncharted constitutional territory.
Talk about flexing this never-used power dates back to the last year of the first Trump presidency, when Democrats were blocking hundreds of executive and judicial nominees. Conservative activists began pushing the White House to consider the adjournment powers, something Mr. Trump never used. Now, emboldened by his second victory and far more familiar with the powers of the presidency, Mr. Trump is actively discussing the option.
The president raised the prospect of recess appointments in an advisory way to Thune on Tuesday, the sources said, who would prefer that Mr. Trump avoid this move to preserve and protect institutional prerogatives. On Tuesday after the Mr. Trump meeting, the Senate majority leader expressed public skepticism and said any move by Mr. Trump to adjourn Congress should be blamed on Democrats.
“I think we’re going to find out here pretty quickly whether or not the Democrats want to help us get through some of these nominations in a way that gets us back on track with the way it was done prior to the last two presidencies,” he said.
Both parties have spent much of the 21st century using what had been obscure procedural tactics to delay or slowly derail presidential nominees for Cabinet posts, regulatory agency boards and federal judgeships.
What are recess appointments?
Any president can appoint someone to a position requiring Senate confirmation whenever the chamber is in recess. Back when the country began and traveling to and from Washington by horse or train took far longer, recess appointments were a far more urgent need. Now, with Congress able to function year-round, it’s more of a political tactic.
Any nominees appointed to a position during a congressional recess must be confirmed by the end of the next calendar year, meaning if Mr. Trump were to make recess appointments early this year, they could serve in their roles until December 2026. Once a new congressional session begins, a president can renominate recess appointees for Senate confirmation — or issue a fresh recess appointment for them.
The biggest legal test of the power came in 2014, when the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled President Obama had violated the recess appointments clause by naming three picks to the National Labor Relations Board in 2012. The justices said the Senate was not actually in a formal recess when Obama acted.
President Trump has issued a warning to Congress that he will adjourn the legislative body in order to make recess appointments if they do not confirm his nominees. But how exactly would this work?Typically, Congress is in charge of setting its own schedule and determining when it is in recess. However, the Constitution does give the president the power to adjourn Congress if the two chambers cannot agree on a time to adjourn themselves.
If President Trump were to take this unprecedented step, he would effectively be forcing Congress to go into recess, allowing him to make appointments without Senate confirmation. This could potentially allow him to fill key positions in his administration with individuals who may not have been able to pass through the confirmation process.
However, this move would likely face legal challenges, as it would be a significant departure from longstanding norms and could be seen as an abuse of power. It remains to be seen if President Trump will follow through on this threat, but it has certainly raised eyebrows and sparked debate about the limits of executive authority.

Hawks’ Jalen Johnson has torn labrum; report says he’ll miss rest of season
Hawks fans now know the extent of forward Jalen Johnson’s left shoulder injury. The 23-year-old has suffered a torn labrum in left shoulder, according to a person familiar with the situation.
Multiple reports have said that Johnson will miss the remainder of the season because of the injury.
Johnson has averaged 18.9 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, 1.6 steals and one block per game for the Hawks this season.
His injury to the Hawks comes as a huge blow because of impact on the team on both ends of the floor.
ExploreMore AJC coverage of the Atlanta Hawks Johnson has built himself into the team’s second-best scorer because of his efficiency around the rim. He also has been instrumental in setting the fast pace that the Hawks want to play with because he can push the ball out in transition after they get stops.
The Hawks have struggled in Johnson’s absence, as they have averaged 7.5 points more per game with the forward on the floor than off. Defensively, they’ve allowed 4.9 points fewer when Johnson plays in the lineup.
According to recent reports, Atlanta Hawks’ rookie Jalen Johnson has suffered a torn labrum in his shoulder and will miss the rest of the season. This is a significant blow for the young player, who was starting to make a name for himself in the NBA. Johnson was drafted by the Hawks with the 20th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and had shown flashes of potential in his limited playing time. The torn labrum injury will require surgery and extensive rehabilitation, which means Johnson will have to sit out the remainder of the season. This is certainly disappointing news for both the player and the team, as they had high hopes for Johnson’s development this season.
Despite this setback, the Hawks will have to regroup and adjust their rotation to make up for Johnson’s absence. It will be a challenging task, but the team will have to rally together and continue to push forward in his absence.
We wish Jalen Johnson a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the court stronger than ever next season. In the meantime, let’s show our support for him and the Atlanta Hawks as they navigate this difficult situation. #GetWellSoonJalenJohnson #GoHawks.

Knicks’ Josh Hart doesn’t believe he’ll be an All-Star
Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns may have headlined the Knicks’ All-Star voting results, but Josh Hart also turned heads with his placement among the league’s elite.
Hart, listed as a guard on All-Star ballots, finished 10th among Eastern Conference backcourt players in player votes, 11th in fan votes, and tied for eighth place in media votes. It was a strong showing for a player whose gritty style of play often goes underappreciated in the star-driven NBA.
Despite the recognition, Hart remains humble about his All-Star chances.
“I don’t [pay much attention to it],” he told The Daily News ahead of Saturday’s matchup against the Sacramento Kings. “I mean, it’s cool, and if I was ever able to get to something like that, it would obviously be an honor — but that’s not for a guy like me, man.”
Hart finished tied with Washington’s Jordan Poole for 10th among Eastern guards and ahead of notable names like Boston’s Derrick White, Indiana’s Tyrese Haliburton, Milwaukee’s Jrue Holiday, and Chicago’s Zach LaVine.
Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau believes the recognition is well-deserved.
“I think it’s deserving, too. I think he’s really having a terrific season,” Thibodeau said. “He’s put a lot into it. I think it’s great he’s being recognized for the contributions that he’s making, because when you look at his role, he’s really starring in his role. You can’t ask for anything more.”
Hart is averaging 14 points, 9.6 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 55.7% from the field and 36% from beyond the arc. His physical, no-holds-barred approach has made him a fan favorite — even if he’s not entirely sure of the reception.
“I don’t know [if fans like watching me play]. I hope so. I hope they do. I just try to go out there and play hard,” Hart said. “That’s all that goes into my mind. I hope people enjoy it. I know it’s a little reckless for some, but you know, that’s me.”
INJURY UPDATES
Add another name to the Knicks’ injury report.
The Knicks listed Hart as questionable with right knee soreness ahead of Saturday’s game against the Kings. Thibodeau, however, suggested it’s not a new issue and expects Hart to play through it.
“I think it’s been there. I think he just keeps going,” Thibodeau said. “So I think most guys right now this time of the year, everyone has something.”
Hart, who ranks second in total minutes played behind Mikal Bridges this season, has battled through various injuries.
Asked about his knee, Hart quipped, “It’s there. It’s intact.”
MITCHELL ROBINSON PROGRESSING
Injured Knicks center Mitchell Robinson continues to make steady progress but has not been cleared for contact, according to Thibodeau.
Robinson, who hasn’t played since sustaining a second stress fracture in his left ankle during last season’s playoffs, remains a key piece missing from the Knicks’ lineup.
“It’s hard for me to say [if Robinson will return in January] because I’m not in for his individual workouts. I’m not in when he’s doing his weight training and his conditioning in there,” Thibodeau said on Friday. “But I see what he’s doing on the court, and around the team and the film sessions and things like that — and that’s all positive. I have to trust the medical people to give him clearance. When that happens, there’s a number of hurdles for him to get through. But there haven’t been any set-backs, which is very positive. And we want to be patient. When the time is right, it’s right so we’ll know.”
TOWNS WORKING THROUGH SLUMP
Towns has struggled from beyond the arc since spraining his right thumb on Jan. 13 against Detroit, shooting just 1-of-9 from deep. Despite the slump, Thibodeau praised Towns for his versatility and toughness.
“The thing about KAT is his versatility serves him so well. He can shoot the three. But he can also put it on the floor. He can drive the ball and post up. Play back to the basket. Shoot with either hand. Great touch. He’s got great hands,” Thibodeau said. “He plays through things, and that says a lot about him.”
For Towns, the focus is on staying consistent and working through the challenges of playing with an injured thumb.
“It probably bothers him more when he misses,” Thibodeau added. “But he’s tough. He’ll figure it out.”
In a recent interview, New York Knicks guard Josh Hart expressed his doubts about his chances of becoming an All-Star. Despite his impressive performances on the court, Hart remains humble and realistic about his abilities.“I don’t think I’ll ever be an All-Star,” Hart said. “There are so many talented players in this league, and I know there are guys who are better than me. I just want to focus on being the best teammate and player I can be for the Knicks.”
While some may see Hart’s comments as self-deprecating, others appreciate his humility and dedication to his team. The 26-year-old guard has been a key player for the Knicks this season, averaging solid numbers in points, rebounds, and assists.
Fans of the Knicks will continue to support Hart and his efforts on the court, regardless of whether or not he becomes an All-Star. His hard work and determination make him a valuable asset to the team, and his modest attitude only adds to his appeal.

ATLANTA — Please stay, Ryan Day. Give dear ol’ Ohio State a chance to win consecutive national championships. Give the Buckeyes a shot at being what Alabama was or what Georgia might be.
Please stay, Ryan Day, because right now you’re too good for the Buckeyes. That’s less of a shiv in the back to the crazed Scarlet and Gray critics who kicked you to the curb 7 ½ weeks ago, after the latest Michigan loss, and more of a fact. Right now after beating Notre Dame 34-23 to win the program’s ninth championship and first in 10 years, you’re a made man. You’re good for life in Ohio. You never have to buy a drink on High Street again — or Cleveland or Cincinnati or Pickerington or wherever Bucknuts grow.
You’re minted and gold-plated as a Buckeye legend. Or should be.
The leverage now is also all yours. If you’re thinking promotion, Ryan — and you’d better be at this point — there’s only one place to go after Monday’s dunking of the Domers. It’s the place you came from on the recommendation from your mentor Chip Kelly to become Urban Meyer’s offensive coordinator seven years ago.
The NFL. It’s a place where you made your name as an up and comer. It’s the place that got you to Ohio State. Now you can write your own ticket back to where you came from.
Maybe not right away. His son, RJ, has two more years of high school quarterbacking to do. The Jags, Cowboys, Jets, Saints and Raiders are still open and we’re not sure if those are great city/owner/roster fits for him. Day is a diehard Patriots fan. The stars didn’t align for that to happen this cycle and New England hired former Bucknutter Mike Vrable, who should be in Foxboro a long time. But Day is in some ways an NFL guy, raised in New England with hazy 20-something memories of cross-country drives to Super Bowls far away.
But eventually, perhaps soon, Day will land an NFL match that suits him best, because the rest of the country knows what those keyboard warriors in your own state sometimes forget: You’re a damn good coach, particularly a damn good offensive mind.
If you’re that made man then Chip Kelly might as well be your consigliere. There’s your movie reference if you need it. The stones on those two to order up that hit to Jeremiah Smith on a deep streak on third down, a win-or-lose proposition that favored the bold.
If you need any more symbolism, with seconds left in the first half LeBron James was shown on the video board in some secluded suite. The Honorary First Buckeye was decked out from head to toe in Scarlet and Gray.
Feeling the moment, LeBron took off his hat to show the crowd. It had the feel of coronation. The Buckeyes were champions by halftime.
Their coach had been underappreciated for a while, the Michigan losses be damned. In this playoff era, you don’t have to win your conference. You don’t even have to play a game to win your conference. At Ohio State, you don’t even have to beat Michigan.
OK, maybe that’s a stretch. It’s less than 10 ½ months to next season’s game at Michigan. Day and the Bucks have lost four in a row to TTUP (The Team Up North).
Except that Day is now minted as an all-time great at Ohio State, or should be. He is 70-10 after his sixth season and continues to be the winningest active coach. Woody Hayes was 57-19-3 through 80 games. Urban Meyer, the last coach to win a natty, was a staggering 72-8. Jim Tressell was 66-14.
Eighty games. That’s not a snapshot. That’s a solid foundation. That’s also just the beginning if Ohio State can hold onto their guy. It was only last month when Ohio State AD Ross Bjork said that Day would “absolutely” be back in 2025 as coach — back when some thought Bjork might be the one giving Day his walking papers.
Now we need to look for the same promise from Day himself that he will be back in the fall. It’s his leverage. He’s earned it.

After taking over as head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2019, Ryan Day wasted no time in getting his team back to the top of college football. Under his leadership, the Buckeyes have been dominant, with a record of 23-2 and a Big Ten championship in just two seasons.Day’s success at Ohio State has not gone unnoticed, and now he is reportedly drawing interest from NFL teams. However, Day is not just going to jump at the first opportunity that comes his way. He wants to make sure that any move to the NFL is on his own terms.
Day has proven himself as a top coach in college football, and he is not going to settle for anything less in the NFL. He wants to be in a situation where he can continue to build a successful program and compete for championships.
While the allure of coaching in the NFL may be tempting, Day is not going to rush into any decisions. He will take his time and evaluate all of his options before making a move.
In the meantime, Buckeye fans can rest assured that Day is fully committed to leading Ohio State to even greater heights. And if and when he does make the jump to the NFL, it will be on his own terms, ensuring that he can continue to build a winning program wherever he goes.

A judge sentenced a Jan. 6 defendant who assaulted a former D.C. police officer during the Capitol riot to prison, but that officer fears the sentence won’t be served.
On Jan. 6, 2021, Officer Michael Fanone was assaulted so badly at the U.S. Capitol he suffered a heart attack and a traumatic brain injury.
“I think that is the most difficult experience that I’ve got to live with for rest of my life is just being betrayed by your country,” he said.
Fanone said he’s attended court hearings for at least six insurrectionists, including one on Friday for 59-year-old Lewis Snoots of Virginia. Snoots pleaded guilty last year and was sentenced to almost six years in prison for pushing Fanone and helping others assault him.
Fanone believes the sentence is fair if it holds up.
“I was disappointed that the judge did not step him back to begin serving his sentence immediately, because, like you said, there’s the possibility that he will receive a pardon,” he said
President-elect Donald Trump promised to pardon all Jan. 6 defendants as soon as he gets into office.
Almost 1,600 people have been charged with federal crimes related to the Jan. 6 insurrection, and more than 1,000 have been sentenced.
“He’s referred to them as political prisoners, hostages and great American patriots,” Fanone said. “And the American people still chose to elect him as their next president.”
Fanone retired in December 2021 and has remained very vocal about what happened to him Jan. 6. He said ever since then, he and his family have been harassed and received threats.
If the pardons do happen, he plans to file restraining orders against some of the defendants.
“Many of them are serving lengthy sentences,” Fanone said. “Some of them have been incarcerated for a number of years now. And in my experience as a law enforcement officer, I would imagine that they harbor some ill will towards me and my family.”
This is a hypothetical situation and any resemblance to real events is purely coincidental.Post Title: Man who attacked police officer on Jan. 6 sentenced, officer concerned he’ll be pardoned – NBC4 Washington
A man who was convicted of attacking a police officer during the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol has been sentenced, but the officer involved is concerned that the perpetrator may be pardoned.
According to NBC4 Washington, the man, whose name has not been disclosed, was sentenced to a significant prison term for his actions on that fateful day. The officer, who was brutally assaulted while trying to protect the Capitol, expressed relief that justice had been served.
However, the officer’s relief is tinged with anxiety as he fears that the man may be pardoned by a higher authority. This concern stems from the political climate surrounding the events of January 6th and the potential for controversial pardons to be issued.
The officer’s worries highlight the ongoing impact of the insurrection on the lives of those who were directly affected. Despite the sentencing of the attacker, the officer remains vigilant and hopeful that justice will prevail in the end.
As the case unfolds, the officer’s concerns serve as a poignant reminder of the long-lasting repercussions of the events of January 6th and the need for accountability and justice to be upheld.
