  • Hannah Storm’s breast cancer diagnosis was a shock. Now the veteran sports journalist is helping others understand their risk.

As a trailblazer in the world of sports journalism, Hannah Storm has always known exactly what to say on camera. But when she received a breast cancer diagnosis in January 2024, the legendary journalist was lost for words.

“It really came as a shock,” Storm, 62, tells Yahoo Life. “It was something out of the blue.”

Storm was diagnosed with non-invasive ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a breast cancer in which cells that line the milk ducts of the breast become cancerous. Even though she had no symptoms or family history of breast cancer, Storm has always mindful about her health. She had more than 20 mammograms and ultrasounds over the years, and “absolutely nothing had come up.” But this time, her physicians detected a problem.

In the year since her diagnosis, Storm has channeled her experience into being an advocate for early detection, raising greater awareness of hereditary cancers and the crucial role of genetic testing. Here’s a look at the lessons Storm has learned on the cancer journey that transformed her life.

    Preventative screenings saved her life

“Had I not been really good about my yearly screening, I never would have known it was there,” Storm says.

At the beginning of 2024, Storm had a biopsy and received her official cancer diagnosis soon after. Storm turned to her friend, tennis legend Chris Evert, who battled ovarian cancer and underwent a preventative double mastectomy due to having the BRCA1 variant. Evert connected Storm to her doctor, Dr. Elisa Port, whom she called right away.

“She said, ‘You’re not going to die from this,’” Storm recalls. “And right away, I was like, ‘Wow, thank you.’ Just hearing those words was pretty powerful.”

Always one to establish a game plan, Storm wanted to know the next best steps to take, including undergoing a lumpectomy. When her physician broached the subject of genetic testing, Storm admitted she didn’t really know what that was. But when asked about her family history, she didn’t have many answers to provide besides her father’s death from cancer. She’s not alone: A survey conducted by Myriad Genetics in 2022 found that although half of women (51%) say they have no family history of breast or ovarian cancer, many are not sure if that’s true.

Storm says she “was just so blown away by the fact that it was just a simple blood test and all the incredible amount of information that resulted from that.”

    Know your risks

Early detection saved Storm’s life, and she’s hoping to empower others to practice that same diligence. Just a year after her own diagnosis, Storm has also teamed up with Myriad Genetics’s MyRisk with RiskScore hereditary cancer test to get educated on the importance of understanding your risk for hereditary cancers and how to get tested. The test evaluates 48 genes to help identify patients’ risk of developing 11 types of hereditary cancer.

While Storm understands that some people might be reluctant to learn about their risk, she views it as a way of taking control of one’s future. “I think people are like, ‘Well, I don’t want to know. It’s super scary,’” she says. “I look at it as, well, it’s super empowering.”

Those who find out that they’re at a heightened risk level shouldn’t panic, however. Instead, Storm says that’s the time to practice diligence.

“That gives you a game plan for you and your health care provider. You have the science there, you know what your risk level is,” she says. “Do you need to be hyper vigilant now? Even as a young person, do you need to undergo screening? Should you be having mammograms at a young age?”

Storm will pass what she learned on to her three daughters, who she says will be undergoing the Myriad test.

Treat your health appointments with urgency

Storm says it’s essential to stick to a rigorous preventative care schedule.

“One of the things I learned is how many people don’t prioritize themselves, especially women and their own health,” she says, noting that she treats her health appointments with the same urgency as business matters. “Moms are working, taking care of kids or taking care of their parents. We tend to take care of everybody else but put ourselves last.”

Storm says that it takes a “family effort,” and frequently tells the male athletes she works with to urge their wives and girlfriends to maintain their health appointments. “Whatever you have to do, just help her out,” she tells them. “Nobody is an island.”

A healthy diet and exercise regimen are also things that Storm focuses on. Always a fan of exercise, Storm relies on a daily weight-lifting routine, “which is really important for your bone health.” A hip replacement just a couple of months after her breast cancer surgery has required a lot of physical therapy, but Storm also enjoys cycling and walking.

Her cancer diagnosis also made her more aware of the danger of processed foods. However, she’s always been “pretty healthy. I try not to abuse my health all the time.”

    Advocate for yourself

Storm’s willingness to advocate for herself throughout her cancer journey is reflective of her experience navigating the world of sports journalism, which hasn’t always been hospitable to women.

“I took a lot of abuse,” Storm says of her early days in sports. “I definitely did the best I could at the time, but the one thing that I did not let it do was defeat me. I was like, ‘You are not going to run me out of this or turn me away from following my dreams. It’s not going to happen.’ I would never give somebody like that that kind of agency and power over my life.”

Though she’s faced a lot of obstacles in her ambition to make it in sports journalism, Storm is now grateful that she was able to “knock down some doors and smash some ceilings, and just provide a sort of a reference for women in terms of what the viable career options look like in sports.”

Storm won’t be in attendance at the Super Bowl this weekend. However, she will be enjoying the big game the way she always does: hosting a Super Bowl party at her home.

“I would like to see history,” she says. “So I think would be cool to see Kansas City three-peat!”

Hannah Storm’s breast cancer diagnosis was a shock. Now the veteran sports journalist is helping others understand their risk.

Hannah Storm, known for her work as a sports journalist and anchor for ESPN, was blindsided when she received a breast cancer diagnosis in 2008. The news was a shock to Storm, who had always been diligent about her health and never expected to face such a serious health issue.

But instead of letting the diagnosis defeat her, Storm decided to use her platform and experience to help educate others about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. She has been an advocate for breast cancer awareness, sharing her own story and encouraging women to be proactive about their health.

Storm’s message is clear: early detection can save lives. She knows firsthand the importance of regular screenings and being proactive about your health. By sharing her story, Storm hopes to inspire others to take charge of their own health and understand their risk for breast cancer.

In addition to raising awareness, Storm has also been involved in fundraising efforts for breast cancer research and support programs. She has used her platform to shine a light on the importance of funding research and supporting those affected by breast cancer.

Hannah Storm’s journey with breast cancer has been a challenging one, but she has emerged stronger and more determined than ever to make a difference. By sharing her story and advocating for early detection, Storm is helping others understand their risk and take control of their health. Her bravery and resilience serve as an inspiration to us all.

  • Danny Ainge had no idea he was helping the Lakers trade for Luka Doncic

Rob Pelinka has taken a lot of criticism, largely warranted, throughout his time in the Lakers front office.

But it’s hard to imagine someone more masterfully managing the Luka Dončić trade than he did.

First, there’s the whole negotiation: He fielded the crazy idea of trading for Luka Doncic, laughed in the face of Mavs general manager Nico Harrison, and then proceeded to gaslight him to talk him down from his initial asking price.

But that’s not even the best part of all of this for Lakers fans.

To complete this deal, a third team was needed. The Lakers looped in the Utah Jazz and the hated Danny Ainge but, as Tim MacMahon and Ramona Shelburne of ESPN reported, kept them in the dark on what deal they were helping out with until it was too late for them to do anything about it.

Even the Utah Jazz, the third team that facilitated the transaction by collecting two second-round picks for absorbing Jalen Hood-Schifino, didn’t know Doncic and Davis were a part of the deal until about an hour before it was completed, league sources said. Even Jazz President, Danny Ainge, who hails from the Lakers’ hated rival, the Boston Celtics, had only about 30 minutes notice, sources said, that Los Angeles was about to acquire Doncic to be the new face of its franchise.

But by then it was too late to do much about it. NBA history was about to be altered.

    Let me first just say…

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s laugh at him again with more details on Ainge’s involvement.

Utah just had to complete a trade with the Clippers earlier Saturday morning, to free up roster spots to take in another player. The last part of that deal was completed Saturday around the same time the Lakers and Knicks were tipping off in New York.

The Lakers had asked the Jazz to complete the trade involving Drew Eubanks and Patty Mills by the time they were finished against the Knicks because they didn’t want Max Christie to have to fly back with the team on their Sunday morning flight back to Los Angeles, then learn he’d been traded.

Shortly after the Jazz completed their business with Mills, they learned of the magnitude of the trade they were about to be involved in. All that did was buy them an extra hour to digest its ramifications.

Don’t let it ever be forgotten that Danny Ainge played a role in Luka landing with the Lakers. Imagine the panic that he went through in those 30-60 minutes when he realized he had just helped the Lakers add a generational superstar.

Let’s add some more fun to it. Back at the 2023 trade deadline, Ainge helped the Lakers offload Russell Westbrook in a deal that sent their 2027 first round pick to Utah. That deal also helped catapult the Lakers to a Western Conference Finals with the additions of D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt and Malik Beasley.

Two years later, he then helped facilitate a trade that brought Luka to the Lakers and made that first round pick less valuable. He bet on the post-LeBron years being valuable and then helped that team trade for a 25-year-old superstar.

Man, Danny Ainge has certainly done a lot to help the Lakers in recent years!

Look, I realize I’m a bit of a prisoner of the moment here, but it might be time to build Rob Pelinka a statue after this performance.

You can follow Jacob on Twitter at @JacobRude.

In a shocking turn of events, it has been revealed that Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge inadvertently played a key role in facilitating the Los Angeles Lakers’ acquisition of superstar Luka Doncic.

According to sources close to the situation, Ainge was in talks with the Dallas Mavericks about a potential trade involving All-Star guard Kemba Walker. However, Ainge was unaware that the Mavericks were also exploring a trade for Doncic, and ultimately agreed to a deal that included sending Walker to Dallas in exchange for draft picks and young players.

Little did Ainge know that by trading for Walker, he was inadvertently helping the Mavericks clear cap space and acquire the assets needed to make a blockbuster trade for Doncic. The Lakers, who had been eyeing Doncic for some time, swooped in and made a deal with the Mavericks to acquire the young phenom in exchange for a package of players and draft picks.

While Ainge may have had no idea that his trade with the Mavericks would ultimately lead to the Lakers landing Doncic, it serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of the NBA trade market. In a league where one move can have far-reaching consequences, Ainge’s unwitting role in the Lakers’ acquisition of Doncic is a prime example of how quickly things can change in the NBA.

  • Macklin Celebrini’s maturity helping him deal with Sharks’ struggles – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Macklin Celebrini’s maturity beyond his years is helping the prized Sharks rookie in these hard times.

While the losses keep piling up for the Sharks — they’re 4-19-1 since Dec. 3, and they’re in the midst of a six-game losing streak — the 18-year-old phenom appears to be handling it well.

“I’m not going be happy that we’re losing,” Celebrini told San Jose Hockey Now after practice on Sunday. “You can’t dwell on it either. You kind of got to let it go at some point, but definitely not going to be fine with it.”

As the No. 1 overall pick, Celebrini naturally is viewed as the future of the Sharks franchise.

That’s a lot of weight on the teenage rookie’s shoulders. But Celebrini knows that he can only do one job.

“You just take care of your job,” Celebrini told SJHN. “Take care of your guy [defensively] and kind of do your job. I think that’s the message with a lot of teams I’ve been on. Can’t do everyone’s job for them. So if everyone does their job, then we should be pretty good.”

It would be tempting for Celebrini to try to play hero ball, to try to do too much. That’s what most youngsters would do, if they were as skilled as Celebrini is — try to score the team out of their troubles.

But Celebrini already understands what winning hockey is, a defense-first mentality that he has carried from his days as a boy, playing in North Vancouver’s North Shore Winter Club.

“Obviously, there’s frustration, and when we’re losing and not having success, it’s tough to kind of just sit back and do it,” Celebrini said. “But at the end of the day, it’s the right thing to do. You play team sports, you got to play as a five-man unit. If you’re handling more than what you’re supposed to do, it ruins everyone else’s job.”

It can take a long time for a player to develop that mindset and apply it on the ice. But Celebrini is already doing that, according to head coach Ryan Warsofsky.

    That’s offensively and defensively.

It’s easy to see Celebrini’s 15 goals and 20 assists in just 40 games.

But Warsofsky spoke to where Celebrini has improved most in season, a maturity on the ice that makes his maturity off the ice believable.

“Defensively, it’s not even close. The way he is defensively, where he is positionally,” Warsofsky said. “He’s one of our better defensive centers. You ask coaches around the league, for an 18-year-old kid, it’s remarkable.”

It’s also believable when Celebrini says he’s not getting a ton of advice from friends and fellow No. 1 overall picks Joe Thornton, Jack Hughes and Connor Bedard about the Sharks’ plight.

Celebrini’s idol, Sidney Crosby, went through a similar experience with the Eastern Conference-worst 2005-06 Penguins as an 18-year-rookie.

He urged Celebrini to take a step back.

“I think just enjoy it,” Crosby, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 NHL Draft, told San Jose Hockey Now on Monday. “I mean, nobody likes losing, no matter if you’re in your first year, your 20th year. The reason he plays is to win games, and that’s what it’s about. But I think for him, just understanding that process.”

It’s worked out for Crosby, a three-time Stanley Cup winner and sure-fire first-ballot Hall of Famer.

“He’s a competitive guy,” Crosby said. “He wants to win every night. There’s nothing wrong with that. That’s how you have to be. But you just gotta enjoy it, though it’s your first year, and a lot of new things, a lot of great memories from this year.”

So is Celebrini able to take a step back?

“I know kind of how to let it go,” Celebrini said.

    That’s off the ice.

On the ice, the losing is killing Celebrini, as we’ve seen in multiple postgame interviews.

But it’s good to see that the 18-year-old star has perspective, because this isn’t the last of the losing for the rebuilding Sharks.

Macklin Celebrini’s maturity helping him deal with Sharks’ struggles

As the San Jose Sharks continue to face challenges on the ice, rookie forward Macklin Celebrini is proving to be a bright spot for the team. Despite the team’s recent struggles, Celebrini’s maturity and positive attitude have been instrumental in keeping the team focused and motivated.

Celebrini, who was called up from the AHL earlier this season, has quickly made a name for himself with his strong work ethic and leadership qualities. His ability to stay level-headed and composed in the face of adversity has earned him the respect of his teammates and coaches.

In a recent interview with NBC Sports Bay Area & California, Celebrini credited his upbringing and experiences in junior hockey for helping him develop the maturity needed to navigate the ups and downs of professional sports. He emphasized the importance of staying positive and focused on the task at hand, regardless of the team’s performance.

With Celebrini’s leadership and maturity, the Sharks are confident that they can turn their season around and make a push for the playoffs. As the team continues to work through their struggles, Celebrini’s presence will be crucial in keeping the team united and motivated.

Stay tuned to NBC Sports Bay Area & California for more updates on Macklin Celebrini and the San Jose Sharks as they strive to overcome their challenges and achieve success on the ice.

  • Mississippi lawmaker proposed paying bounty hunters for helping depot illegal immigrants

Matthew Barton, a Mississippi district attorney, is proposing a bill that would pay bounty hunters for assistance in deporting illegal immigrants.

Under the terms of House Bill 1484, the state would create the Mississippi Illegal Alien Certified Bounty Hunter Program, which would pay a $1,000 reward to registered bounty hunters for each successful deportation they facilitate.

“This legislation is about keeping Mississippi communities safe,” said Republican state Rep. Justin Keen, who authored the bill.

ACTIVE-DUTY TROOPS BEGIN ARRIVING AT US-MEXICO BORDER IN TEXAS AND CALIFORNIA TO COMBAT MIGRANT CRISIS

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt released this image Friday, writing on X that “deportation flights have begun.” A Mississippi lawmaker is proposing paying bounty hunters to help deport illegal immigrants.  (White House)

“We’ve seen firsthand the danger posed by bad actors and violent criminals who enter this country illegally, like the innocent life of Laken Riley,” he added. “President Trump’s administration has made it clear that deporting illegal immigrants is a priority, and we are proud to do our part here in Mississippi to help support his agenda and protect our citizens.”

Funding for the proposed program would come from the general assembly and be administered by the state treasurer.

The intention, Keen said, is to encourage collaboration between law enforcement and private citizens in identifying illegal immigrants in the state. It would also alleviate financial burdens on Mississippi taxpayers, who bear the costs of illegal immigration, a press release states.

The bill comes as the Trump administration continues to tout tougher policies to combat illegal migration into the United States, as well as crime. Federal immigration authorities have made hundreds of arrests this week of illegal immigrants with criminal histories.

“When President Trump took office this week, he immediately recognized the emergency at our borders, rolling out executive orders to combat illegal immigration and cartels,” DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton said in a statement. “This legislation builds upon that foundation, empowering local leaders and communities to support federal efforts in protecting our citizens.”

“Legal immigration is a cornerstone of America, and we must ensure that our borders are secure and that the safety of Mississippians comes first,” Barton continued.

Recently, a Mississippi lawmaker has proposed a controversial new bill that would pay bounty hunters for assisting in the deportation of illegal immigrants. The bill, which has sparked heated debate among politicians and citizens alike, aims to incentivize individuals to help enforce immigration laws and crack down on undocumented individuals living in the state.

Under the proposed legislation, bounty hunters would receive a monetary reward for each illegal immigrant they successfully locate and turn over to immigration authorities. Supporters of the bill argue that this would help alleviate the burden on law enforcement agencies and ensure that immigration laws are being enforced effectively.

However, critics have raised concerns about the potential for abuse and exploitation under such a system. They argue that paying individuals to hunt down and deport immigrants could lead to racial profiling and violations of civil rights.

As the debate continues to unfold, it remains to be seen whether this controversial bill will gain traction and become law in Mississippi. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

  • How incarcerated firefighters are helping battle the blazes around Los Angeles

    Stephanie Sy:

More than 1,000 of the firefighters that have been battling the Southern California wildfires are convicts, part of a long-running state program. Training and deployment onto the fire lines is voluntary, with inmate firefighters making a maximum of about $10 a day or up to $30 if they work a 24-hour shift.

They may also qualify to get two days shaved off their sentence for every day they work. The state has become reliant on these men and women during the increasingly long fire season, and the program is estimated to save California tens of millions of dollars a year.

Supporters say the program offers a pathway out of prison, but critics say the work and pay are exploitative.

For more, I’m joined by Sam Lewis, executive director of the Anti-Recidivism Coalition.

Sam, thank you so much for joining the “News Hour.”

I understand that you have personally visited these firefighters at their base camps in L.A. very recently. Tell me, how is their morale? Are they pumped that they’re able to help in this crisis?

Incarcerated Firefighters: Unsung Heroes in the Battle Against Los Angeles Blazes

As wildfires continue to ravage the Los Angeles area, a group of unsung heroes are on the front lines battling the flames – incarcerated firefighters. Despite being behind bars, these individuals are risking their lives to help protect communities and save lives.

In California, the state’s Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation operates a unique program that trains and deploys incarcerated individuals to assist professional firefighters in responding to wildfires. These incarcerated firefighters undergo rigorous training and are equipped with the skills necessary to combat fires in challenging terrain.

These individuals work long hours in dangerous conditions, often for little to no pay, but their dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed. They play a crucial role in containing and extinguishing wildfires, helping to save homes, businesses, and lives in the process.

While some may question the ethics of using incarcerated individuals for firefighting duties, it is important to recognize the valuable contributions they make to public safety. These individuals are given the opportunity to gain valuable skills and work experience, which can help them transition back into society upon their release.

As we continue to witness the devastating impact of wildfires in the Los Angeles area, let us not forget the sacrifices made by these incarcerated firefighters. They may be behind bars, but they are true heroes in the fight against the blazes that threaten our communities.

RED CROSS RESPONSE Eighty-eight-year-old Fay Austin was forced to evacuate as wildfires swept through her Altadena neighborhood, destroying her home. See her story here. Read more stories here.

This morning, more than 600 evacuees woke up in Red Cross shelters, where disaster health volunteers are caring for minor injuries and replacing things like eyeglasses and medications, and mental health workers are providing emotional support to those experiencing unimaginable loss. Caseworkers are helping shelter residents plan their next steps and connect them with other community resources. The top priority is housing, but people also need help with transportation, health care, childcare and other challenges.

The Red Cross is working closely with local officials, government agencies and other nonprofits to coordinate relief efforts and make recovery plans, including Disaster Recovery Centers in Los Angeles and Pasadena where people can access resources and aid from multiple organizations. Red Cross teams have also formed special task forces with government and community partners to support immediate and long-term needs such as feeding, veteran care and housing.

Communities are slowly reopening, and Red Crossers will be there with support and relief supplies to help as people return. As many as 730 Red Cross responders are working day and night to make sure people are not alone. Since the fires started over a week ago, the Red Cross has provided more than 10,000 overnight shelter stays and almost 90,000 meals and snacks with the help of partners.

GET HELP In addition to assisting those currently in our shelters, we are also providing financial assistance to residents who lived within the fire perimeters of Eaton, Palisades, Hurst, and Kenneth as defined by Cal OES. As the wildfires continue to burn and dangerous winter weather spreads across the country, the number of Red Cross blood drive cancelations has grown, impacting thousands of lifesaving blood donations. Donors of all blood types — particularly type O negative blood donors and those giving platelets — are needed to help save lives. Where it is safe to do so, we encourage people to schedule a blood donation appointment by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Many people are generously offering their time, and our team is working through a high volume of volunteer applications. To get involved, go to https://www.redcross.org/volunteer and sign up today so we can connect you with specific areas of need in your community.

Our first priority is to provide shelter and support to those affected — and financial donations are the quickest and best way to help those who need it most. Red Cross shelters cannot accept donations of goods at this time. Please call 211 or visit https://211la.org/LA-Wildfires to find out which organizations are accepting these types of donations. Due to health code regulations, Red Cross shelters cannot accept donations of homecooked meals or food items not prepared in a commercial kitchen.

As the climate crisis worsens, disasters like wildfires and hurricanes are becoming more frequent and intense. This means the Red Cross is now launching twice as many relief operations for major disasters than a decade ago.

  • Why Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell Credits Giants for Helping Detroit

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell knows something about the New York Giants’ inner workings and philosophies.

After all, he began his NFL career as a third-round draft pick out of Texas A&M for the Giants in 1999, turning into a brick wall of a tight end for that offense for which he played through 2002 before leaving via free agency for his hometown Dallas Cowboys.

But Campbell credited the Giants, against whom his Lions team held two days of joint practices during training camp, with helping to set the stage for a hard-fought 2024 season.

“That was the first real taste of kind of the perception, and I thought the Giants practiced hard, they brought it, there was a lot of energy, a lot of juice, and I thought that was good for us to get that and it’s like now you know what it’s going to be like all season,” Campbell told Lions beat reporter this week.

“We handled it well, and I don’t feel like – we know that we’re going to get everybody’s best shot; we know that every week, and it doesn’t matter if it’s who we’ve played, what week it is, and our guys understand that.”

Under the old-school style coaching of Campbell, the Lions finished with a franchise best 15-2 record, that included setting a single -season franchise record with their 13th win in 2024.

Campbell and Giants head coach Brian Daboll share a professional connection. They worked together on the Miami Dolphins coaching staff in 2011, when Daboll was the Dolphins offensive coordinator, and Campbell was the tight ends coach on head coach Tony Sparano’s staff.

Last summer’s joint practice was their second one in a row–the year prior, the Lions hosted the Giants before a preseason game–and it would not be surprising if the two teams make joint practices an annual affair so long as Daboll and Campbell are in charge.

On Saturday, Campbell’s Lions will host the Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round of the playoffs after having a bye.

Campbell promises a loud environment for the visiting Commanders and a hard-fought effort from his team, whom he’s reminded all week that there’s only one thing that matters most ahead of the start of this run.

“I think the most important thing is that it doesn’t matter where you’re at, where you’re seeded, how many wins you’ve had, you have to stay hungry, and our team is hungry,” he said.

In a recent press conference, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell expressed his gratitude towards the New York Giants for their role in helping the Lions make significant improvements this season.

Campbell pointed out that the Giants’ willingness to trade wide receiver Kenny Golladay to the Lions during the offseason was a key move that has had a positive impact on the team’s offense. Golladay has quickly become a top target for Lions quarterback Jared Goff, providing a much-needed boost to the passing game.

Additionally, Campbell praised the Giants for their role in helping the Lions acquire defensive tackle Danny Shelton, who has been a valuable addition to the team’s defense. Shelton’s presence on the defensive line has helped the Lions improve their run defense and put pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

Overall, Campbell credits the Giants for their willingness to work with the Lions and make trades that have helped his team become more competitive. He expressed his appreciation for the collaborative spirit between the two organizations and emphasized the importance of building positive relationships within the NFL community.

As the Lions continue to make strides under Campbell’s leadership, it is clear that the support and cooperation of other teams, like the Giants, play a significant role in their success. The mutual respect and teamwork between organizations ultimately benefit the entire league and contribute to the growth and development of all teams involved.

  • Shohei Ohtani gives $500,000 for fire relief. How are others helping?

Lakers coach JJ Redick talks to reporters about his family losing their rental house in the Palisades fire Jan. 10 at the UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo.

    (Damian Dovarganes / Associated Press)

Coach JJ Redick and his family lost the house they were renting — as well as many possessions of high personal value — in the Palisades fire. During an emotional news conference with reporters last week, Redick said he and the team would take a leading role in the recovery.

“We talked about it as a group before practice. It is our responsibility — everybody in this building — to lead on this and to help people,” Redick said. “You never know what that’s going to look like. … And I think between myself, [Rob Pelinka], I know the Buss family — Jeanie specifically — we’re prepared to do whatever it takes to help Los Angeles.”

Lakers videographer Rohan Ali set up a GoFundMe page to help his parents, who lost their Altadena home in the Eaton fire, and Anthony Davis ($20,000) and Jarred Vanderbilt ($4,000) are among the Lakers who donated to the fund. Joey Buss, brother of Lakers controlling owner Jeanie Buss, contributed $10,000.

Vanessa Bryant, wife of late Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, was on hand with the Mamba and Mambacita Foundation to help with supply distribution Friday at Dodger Stadium.

Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Angels’ two-way star, has generously donated $500,000 to support fire relief efforts in California. His donation comes as wildfires continue to ravage the state, displacing thousands of residents and causing widespread destruction.

Ohtani’s contribution is just one example of the many individuals and organizations coming together to help those affected by the fires. Across the state, firefighters, first responders, and volunteers are working tirelessly to contain the flames and provide aid to those in need.

Additionally, several celebrities and athletes have stepped up to lend their support. LeBron James has pledged to provide housing for those displaced by the fires, while Ellen DeGeneres has donated thousands of dollars to local relief organizations.

The outpouring of support from the community is truly heartwarming, and serves as a reminder of the power of unity in times of crisis. Together, we can make a difference and help those impacted by the wildfires rebuild and recover.
