  • WWE Rumors on Bianca Belair vs. Rhea Ripley and Corey Graves; Joe Hendry Talks Rumble | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors

Bleacher Report catches you up on the latest news from the WWE Universe.

Ripley vs. Belair Reportedly Discussed for WrestleMania

Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair haven’t competed in a singles bout since 2022—in a gauntlet match no less—but they may not be avoiding one another for much longer.

Fightful Select (via Steve Carrier of Ringside News) reported that WWE officials have discussed staging Ripley vs. Belair at WrestleMania 41 in April.

Ripley reclaimed the Women’s World Championship on Raw’s Netflix premiere by beating Liv Morgan. She then successfully defended the gold against Nia Jax to open the most recent Saturday Night’s Main Event special.

Even assuming Ripley still has any unfinished business with Morgan, WWE is setting the table for her to pivot to a fresh storyline in time for WrestleMania.

Belair would present one such scenario for the champion and also be somebody with whom she has some shared history. They crossed paths in NXT and battled at NXT TakeOver: Portland in 2020.

Ripley told Sportskeeda’s Bill Apter last August she’d like to challenge Belair again and that their encounter would be “WrestleMania-worthy.”

The champ just might get her wish.

    Latest on Graves’ WWE Contract

Veteran announcer Corey Graves “wasn’t looking to leave the company” when he publicly vented about his demotion from the Raw broadcast team in a since-deleted post on social media, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter‘s Dave Meltzer (via Carrier).

Meltzer reported Graves still has two years remaining on his current deal with WWE.

With Raw moving to Netflix, WWE decided to pair Pat McAfee with Michael Cole at the broadcast table, while Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett pivoted from the company’s flagship program to SmackDown.

As a result of the reshuffle, Graves wound up back in NXT and he didn’t sound too thrilled. Seemingly alluding to McAfee in a Jan. 13 post, he lamented “being told you’re not famous enough for your own job.”

Graves didn’t call the Jan. 14 edition of NXT and WWE chose to have Barrett rather than him replace McAfee for Raw on Jan. 20. McAfee was unavailable due to his ESPN duties for college football’s national championship game.

Graves returned to NXT this week. Colleague Vic Joseph advised fans not to adjust their television sets because “this isn’t AI” while pointing to the retired wrestler. Graves, for his part, said he’s “right where I want to be.”

Hendry Discusses Possible Royal Rumble Match Appearance

WWE always includes some surprise appearances during the Royal Rumble match.

Those spots used to be reserved for returning legends or active stars who have been out of action for a while. The company’s partnership with TNA Wrestling, which was formalized this month, opened the door for other possibilities. Mickie James showed up in 2022 and brought the Impact women’s title with her.

Especially with the TNA deal in place, a lot of fans are hopeful that Joe Hendry will compete in this year’s men’s Royal Rumble match.

Asked about the idea during an interview on the DeLoco Podcast (via Fightful’s Corey Brennan), Hendry expressed his desire to make it a reality.

“Anywhere, anytime, any show is what I said to Shawn Michaels when I debuted in NXT, that’s the first thing I said when I came back through the curtain and look at all the exciting things that it led to,” he said. “That obviously would be a huge honor and a privilege and something that’s synonymous with our business.”

Hendry also described himself as “a soldier for TNA Wrestling” who “will do is do what TNA Wrestling asks me to do.”

Speculation over the 36-year-old’s only grew last week when he announced an upcoming appearance at Wrestlecon Indianapolis, which runs Friday and Saturday. Royal Rumble takes place Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Perhaps that’s merely a coincidence, but fans will believe there’s much more to it than that.

TNA World Champion Joe Hendry appeared on Behind the Turnbuckle, where he discussed several topics, including his time in WWE and the partnership between TNA and WWE.

Hendry said, “This is what I’ll say; I had a wonderful experience at WWE. I have only good things to say about them. Can you imagine getting to work with Terry Taylor every day, getting to learn from Shawn Michaels on a daily basis? And now, TNA and WWE are working together? This is an amazing thing for the professional wrestling business. And we’re in an era, Coach, you know it, anything is possible in the world of professional wrestling.”

On a possible WWE Royal Rumble appearance:

“If you’ve been in two Royal Rumbles, come on. Anything is possible. But ultimately, here’s the difference. Before, hey, I was a wrestler. But now, I am the TNA Champion. So I have a duty to do what’s best for TNA wrestling. So hey, if TNA pick up the phone and they tell me ‘You’ve got to go,’ it doesn’t matter where they tell me to go. If TNA management tells me to go, I’m going to, and whatever it is, I’m going to represent the company well.”

  • Nic Nemeth Addresses JBL Speculation And His Confidence Against Joe Hendry – PWMania

TNA World Champion Nic Nemeth spoke with Rumor & Innuendo on a number of topics, including WWE Hall of Famer JBL’s recent run.

Nemeth said, “Having him bounce around, and who knows what the plan is? Maybe the plan all comes together on Sunday. Maybe he’s building a team. Maybe he’s turning on everyone and has some other aspect and he just wants to go viral. Maybe he just wants to beat up Joe Hendry. I don’t know. Whatever happens on Sunday, he may or may not be involved. I know that he is booked on Monday [for WWE RAW], that’s what everyone’s been telling me online. So I know he has pieces of different shows, and he’s shown up here and there, and two or three times, he’s even shown up in things that I was in, and I’m very curious.”

On his match with Joe Hendry at TNA Genesis:

“I hope we get to have this match without anyone being involved and outside interference. I would love to see Joe Hendry and myself have a one-on-one match. One, to see what he’s got, but two, I don’t think he can hang with me, and I feel like it would be like wrestling circles around him and finding a way to make him quit. So whoever, if something ends up being involved, I underhand. This is a wild weekend, it’s gonna be a big jumping-off point for TNA. But I want to see what Joe’s got.”

On how he is not worried about outside interference or JBL:

“I’m not worried about outside interference. If John Layfield has something to say and has anything to do with it, we have a referee out there, we have people in the back. I don’t know what aspect he would play here. But when it comes down to this world title match, I’m focused. I’m ready to fight Joe Hendry, and I just don’t think he’s on my level.”

  • Joe Hendry wins TNA World Championship

Joe Hendry is the new TNA world champion. Wave your hands from side to side, and say, “I believe in Joe Hendry.”

Hendry faced reigning champion Nic Nemeth in the main event of Genesis (Jan. 19, 2025). There was a cloud of personalities over the match threatening to cheapen the affair. Ryan Nemeth was banned from ringside, so he bought a front row ticket instead. Frankie Kazarian loomed with the Call Your Shot trophy to cash in for an instant title shot at any time. And then there was JBL. Nobody really knows JBL’s motives, but he has been a consistent presence in Nemeth’s matches causing a ruckus on the outside.

When push came to shove, JBL did the right thing on this night. Kazarian ran down to cash in when Nemeth and Hendry were both in peril. JBL entered through the crowd to deliver a Clothesline from Hell on Kaz. JBL also punched Ryan for fun. Just like that, JBL exited.

The finish was clean fair and square. Hendry shed off Nemeth’s Danger Zone finisher to counter for the Standing Ovation slam. Nemeth kicked out on the cover. Commentary said that was the first time anybody has kicked out of the Standing Ovation.

The crowd cheered on Hendry to follow up with another Standing Ovation. Nemeth escaped and connected on a superkick and Danger Zone. Hendry kicked out.

The crowd voiced support for Hendry by chanting, “We believe!” Hendry caught a superkick to counter for a fallaway slam. Hendry fired up with adrenaline for a Standing Ovation. 1, 2, 3. New champion. The fans went crazy.

Hendry’s world title win was an electric moment.

  • Joe Hendry Wins The TNA World Championship At Genesis 2025

Say his name, but make sure you add ‘TNA World Champion’ to the end, as Joe Hendry defeated Nic Nemeth at Genesis 2025 to finally lift the world title.

Third time was indeed the charm for Hendry, finally putting his world title losses at Slammiversary and Bound For Glory 20254 behind him to become the third Brit to reign as TNA World Champion, and the 36th wrestler overall to hold the gold.

The two went back and forth, with Nemeth’s brother Ryan watching from the front row despite earlier being barred by Santino Marella. After a top rope Fallaway Slam by Hendry, Call Your Shot Gauntlet winner Frankie Kazarian arrived to insert himself into the match, only for John Layfield to arrive to flatten Kazarian and punch out Ryan Nemeth before making his way back through the crowd.

Hendry hit the Standing Ovation for two, Nemeth hit a superkick and Danger Zone for two. But as Nemeth went for another superkick Hendry hit a fallaway slam and a second Standing Ovation to get the three and the TNA World Championship before celebrating with his family and the TNA fans in the stands.

For Nemeth he sees his first reign with the strap end after 183 days, with ‘The Wanted Man’ having won the title at Slammiversary in a six-man elimination match.

  • Nic Nemeth believes he will beat Joe Hendry at Genesis

Does Nic Nemeth believe in Joe Hendry – the man who will challenge him on Sunday night for the TNA World Championship at the company’s Genesis pay-per-view event?

    The answer may surprise you.

“Yes,” he answered definitively during an exclusive interview with SlamWrestling.net. “And I’m rooting for him – until the bell rings.”

“Because, in a match, I don’t let myself do anything less than 10 out of 10. I don’t stop from trying to out-class someone just because I’m rooting for them. When the bell rings,” he explained, “he becomes an enemy that’s trying to take the World title from me. And I know that will happen at some point. But I don’t see it happening on Sunday.”

While that dynamic has played out on-screen over the past few weeks in the build-up to the match, Nemeth’s backstage view of Hendry comes with even more respect.

“Over the last couple of months, he’s grown even more complete, become more of the total package,” Nemeth praised. “I won’t get into detail the conversations we’ve had. But they’re similar to the things I’ve said on TV. Because he’s someone that I would like to have with TNA for the next several years.”

“He did a tricky part – to go viral and organically get people behind you. That’s really hard to get, no matter what you do and who you are. It’s hard to explain to somebody who’s not (in the business). But he went from being an attraction that we cheer for, to (someone who makes people think) ‘Hey, maybe this guy could be world champion, and possibly a really dominant one in the future.’ That’s huge growth. And I know some people might take it the wrong way, but to say he was an attraction and now he’s someone who’s a believable world champion, that’s a huge difference in our business.”

Nic Nemeth, TNA World Champion. Photo: TNAWrestling.com

Nemeth noted that it’s even more important, given the positive trajectory the company has been on in the past year (he started last year, and Genesis will take place just a week after his first anniversary with the company).

“In the old WCW days and in (past) WWE days, there were times when (being the World champion) didn’t mean as much. Man, there were old WWE times where The Rock and Triple H fighting over the Intercontinental Championship was a bigger deal than whoever was in the main event picture. So it really depends.”

“But,” he pointed out, “it’s also the business (saying), ‘This is who we are showcasing as our leader, this is the man or woman or anything else whose back we can put the company on, and we know that it’ll be successful.’”

“Being champion when it means so much to a company like ours, that is clicking on all cylinders – you have the Hardys who came back in, you have Tessa (Blanchard)‘s big return, you have Jordynne (Grace) and Masha (Slamovich), you have Moose running the X-Division. It’s such a great time for TNA, and this card on Sunday is so must-see. TNA is really killing it on all levels. If you’re the champion, the responsibility is on your back to put the butts in seats.”

The announcement earlier this week about TNA’s new talent exchange arrangement with WWE’s NXT brand has the potential to not only put butts in seats, but also eyeballs on the product to a new audience. Nemeth is optimistic about what the deal could mean for TNA, and particularly excited for fans of both companies.

“It’s exciting,” he said, “because TNA is doing such great things right now. And then having a partner like WWE that’s so successful and is a dominant successful brand, that’s huge. And it’s good for talking with other businesses, potential sponsors, all those things. It’s really cool behind the scenes – two teams helping each other out.”

“But in front of the camera, the possibilities are endless. The cool thing for fans is that it now opens the door. We’ve seen Jordynne in the Royal Rumble before. But now maybe Joe Hendry will be there, maybe Moose will show up. Maybe Nic Nemeth will be there. And on Genesis or Impact, who knows who’s going to show up on Thursday?”

Who might show up is a particularly intriguing question as it relates to Nemeth’s match against Hendry on Sunday, as both Nemeth’s brother Ryan and WWE Hall of Famer John “JBL” Layfield have been involved in their ongoing storyline. Their involvement has also helped blur the traditional good guy versus bad guy dynamic, since both Nemeth and Hendry are fan favorites, while Ryan and JBL have been exhibiting more villainous actions.

“You’ve got to mix things up,” Nemeth said about the numerous layers in the build. “Good versus evil is an easy way to go, and it’s great. But it’s not the 1990s. In 2025, there is room for shades of gray. In real life, some people make the right choices, but they may make the wrong choice the next day – or be in a complex area to where you’re not sure if you’re a good person today. That’s real life.”

“The last time I fought Joe Hendry for the world title, it was another time when I said, ‘Hey, we’re both good guys. I don’t hate you. But when the bell rings, I’m going to punch you as hard as I can, I’m going to try to choke you out. And in that match, 90% of the crowd cheered for Joe, and maybe 10% for me.”

“For me,” he said, “it doesn’t matter what the reaction is from the crowd – as long as there is a reaction for (the wrestlers) to feed off of. If I’m not doing my job, and there’s no sound when I come out, then I don’t deserve to be on the show, much less be the world champion.”

“I’ve been on the other end,” he remembered, “where I was the bad guy – young up-and-coming guy, fighting in the main event of a pay-per-view, with 99% of a sold-out crowd chanting my name – the bad guy. So I know exactly how it goes – we just have to feed off of it. But the day nobody’s making any nose? Then it’s time for me to move on.”

But he doesn’t see that coming any time soon. Indeed, Nemeth is supremely confident in his ability to not only compete at the highest levels, but also to be the best overall professional wrestler in the world.

“I don’t know anyone who does the sport of professional wrestling better than I do,” he assessed, “and if they do, I haven’t seen them yet. Now, there’s a bunch of people I think are really good. Some people I think are better wrestlers than me. Some people are better behind the scenes, pushing for themselves over me. But I don’t know anyone who’s the total package like I am. I don’t think anyone else should be the champion right now. It’s eventually going to happen – but I think I can be champion until 2030.”

Meaning Nemeth is definitely looking to be champion after Genesis and when the company’s weekly Impact TV show runs live this Thursday night. It will be a rare live episode, as the company typically tapes their shows the night after a pay-per-view. Nemeth is very much looking forward to the night, noting that there is a lot of excitement in not knowing what can happen.

“I grew up in a bubble,” he noted, “because for 20 years, I only knew live TV. There are so many (differences from taped TV). You have to hit this mark, you have to get to this commercial, we go dead air at this point. I love those situations. When you are live, there can be mistakes. People can freeze, and then other people have to take over. People can show how good they are on the fly.

“There are so many positive points to going live. First and foremost, is the buzz in the back, in the locker room. And for us, that’s one more chance for TNA to be seen, to be talked about, and to take us to the next level.”

Which is to say, the A-plus level.

“Right now, if I had to give the company a letter grade, I’d say the last year was an ‘A’. There has been so many great things, and we’ve done so well. A lot of people have done so much – many doing so many different things. People like Tommy Dreamer, Ariel (Shnerer, Senior Vice President of Content & Distribution), and Gail Kim.”

“And the locker room… I’m telling you, everyone on Sunday from top to bottom is going to steal the show from every other match. And then I’ve got to go out there and try to do what I’ve never done before: steal the show from 20 others. And I’m looking forward to it.”

TNA Genesis airs Sunday on pay-per-view and TNA+

TNA Impact airs Thursdays on TNA+, AXS TV, and SportsNet 360
