The big January jobs report comes out Friday. Here’s what to expect

The U.S. labor market likely began 2025 in solid fashion, in a bit of a step down from where it closed the previous year.
When the Bureau of Labor Statistics releases its nonfarm payrolls count for January, it is projected to show growth of 169,000, down from 256,000 in December, but nearly in line with the past three-month average. The unemployment rate is projected to stay at 4.1%, according to the Dow Jones consensus for the report, which will be out Friday at 8:30 a.m. ET.
While the takeaway could be that job creation is slowing, the broader view is that the employment picture is holding solid, and it’s not likely to be a problem for the Federal Reserve any time in the near future.
“With inflation at least for now at tolerable levels and firms very comfortable making sustained investment, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t continue to see job growth around 150,000 per month, which is the upper end of what’s needed to keep the labor market stable,” said Joseph Brusuelas, chief economist at RSM. “In other words, we’re at full employment. This is a good problem to have.”
By the time the Fed concluded its final three meetings of 2024, it had cut its key borrowing rate by a full percentage point. In good part, this was because policymakers sought to support a labor market that showed signs of weakening.
However, recent indicators show that while hiring has leveled off, layoffs aren’t increasing and workers aren’t quitting, though job openings are on the decline.
Such relative stability is a welcome sign with the likelihood that the Fed will be on hold, possibly until summer, while officials wait to see the fallout of President Donald Trump‘s fiscal agenda that includes aggressive tariffs against the largest U.S. trading partners.
“The economy is still going to roll on, people are going to make investment decisions, they’re going to get up each morning and go to work,” Brusuelas said.
Annual revisions to take focus
Though the usual payroll number is expected to show more or less status quo conditions, markets also will be watching annual benchmark revisions to both the establishment and household surveys that the BLS compiles.
When the initial revisions were released in August 2024, they showed a stunning 818,000 fewer jobs created than previously reported in the establishment count from April 2023 to March 2024. That total is expected to come down considerably as adjustments are made for immigration and population.
The revisions also are projected to show a record increase of 3.5 million in the population and 2.3 million in household employment, according to Goldman Sachs. The firm sees more modest adjustments upward in labor force participation and unemployment.
The two BLS surveys have differed sharply in the post-Covid years. The establishment survey is used to calculate the nonfarm payrolls number while the BLS derives the unemployment rate from the household count. The latter has shown a less optimistic view of employment conditions that could be corrected with the revisions.
In any event, if the report comes in anywhere near expectations, it’s unlikely to move the needle for the Fed even with the tariff question lingering.
“The labor market is a lot more important to the Fed than what’s going on with tariffs,” said Eric Winograd, director of developed market economic research at AllianceBernstein. “The payrolls numbers are volatile. Anything can happen in any given month. But there’s nothing in particular that makes me think that this month’s print will look meaningfully different than the past few, and that’s enough to keep the Fed on hold.”
In addition to the headline payroll numbers and revisions, the BLS will also release data on average hourly earnings.
The estimate is for January to show a 0.3% increase in wages and a 3.7% 12-month increase. If the annual figure is correct, it will be the lowest level since July 2024.
The big January jobs report is set to be released this Friday, and all eyes are on what the numbers will reveal about the state of the economy. With the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and various economic challenges facing the country, this report will provide crucial insights into the job market and overall economic recovery.Economists are predicting that the January jobs report will show a modest increase in job growth, with expectations ranging from 150,000 to 200,000 new jobs added. This would mark a slight improvement from the previous month’s report, which showed a disappointing increase of just 199,000 jobs.
In addition to job growth, analysts will also be closely watching other key indicators in the report, such as the unemployment rate, wage growth, and labor force participation rate. These numbers will provide important context for understanding the overall health of the labor market and the progress being made in the economic recovery.
As we await the release of the January jobs report, it’s important to keep in mind that these numbers are just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to understanding the state of the economy. While a strong report would be a positive sign for the recovery, it’s also important to consider the broader economic context and the challenges that still lie ahead.
Stay tuned for the release of the January jobs report this Friday, and be prepared to analyze the numbers with a critical eye to understand what they mean for the economy moving forward.

2025 Men’s Beanpot Begins Monday: Here’s What You Need to Know | BU Today
Boston University plays Harvard in the opening round at TD Garden
February has arrived and with it comes one of Boston’s most iconic college sports events: the annual Men’s Beanpot, now marking its 72nd year. The ice hockey tournament pits four major greater Boston college teams against one another.
The 2025 Dunkin’ Beanpot begins Monday, February 3. The No. 10 Boston University men’s hockey team will take on the tournament’s only nonconference opponent when they play Harvard at 5 pm at TD Garden. The two teams met earlier this season in an October 19 exhibition game: a 2-2 nailbiter shoot-out.
Following Monday’s semifinal matchup, reigning champion Northeastern will battle No. 1 Boston College at 8 pm in a top-billed matchup. The winners of each game will return on Monday, February 10, at 7:30 pm to crown a champion, with the losers playing a consolation game, at 4:30 pm. “I don’t think it matters how any of the four teams are doing throughout the course of the year. This tournament takes on a life of its own,” BU head coach Jay Pandolfo (CAS’96) said during the January 27 Beanpot Media Day. “You can’t replicate this tournament anywhere else.”
Here’s what you need to know about each team heading into the semifinals:
Boston University
The Terriers have had an up-and-down season to date. Looking to fill the glaring vacancy left by last season’s departing point leaders Macklin Celebrini, winner of the 2024 Hobey Baker Award (given to the top NCAA men’s ice hockey player), and Lane Hutson, the team reloaded with a crop of new talent, including eight freshmen and two transfers. The team stands at 14-9-1 on the season, ranking third in Hockey East standings.
The program’s youth was on display throughout the roller-coaster first half of the season before they began to find their groove as the new year started. The Terriers won four straight games before the late January high-tension Boston College series, where the Terriers dropped two to their crosstown foe.
Two freshmen who have stood out for the Terriers are forward Cole Eiserman (CAS’28) and defenseman Cole Hutson (CAS’28). The two, along with forward Brandon Svoboda (SHA’28), won a gold medal as part of Team USA in the World Juniors Championship over winter break. Eiserman leads the team in goals, with 15, and Hutson leads the team in assists, with 17.
Three members of the team’s leadership group round out the top five in scoring for the Terriers. Assistant captain Quinn Hutson (SHA’26) leads the team with 30 points, followed by cocaptains Ryan Greene (COM’26) at 26 and Shane Lachance (SHA’27) at 23.
In net, goaltender Mathieu Caron (CAS’25) has started for the majority of the season, posting a .898 save percentage and a 3.17 goals-against average. Freshman goaltender Mikhail Yegorov (CAS’28), who arrived at BU just last month, earned the start in BU’s January 25 game against Boston College. He dominated in that one appearance, with 23 saves and one goal allowed.
It’s unclear whether Pandolfo will lean on experience or the hot hand for the first Beanpot game. He wasn’t shy about praising the new netminder’s performance during Beanpot media day, however.
“We gave [Yegorov] the opportunity, and I thought he was excellent. The composure, the confidence,” Pandolfo said. “Never playing a college team and playing against the No. 1 team in a hostile environment on the road, he was pretty damn good.”
When the Terriers, who own the most Beanpot Championships, with 31, take on Harvard in the opening round of play, they’ll have history on their side: they own a 30-18 Beanpot record against the Crimson. And, they are in search of their first Beanpot title since 2022, when they defeated Northeastern 1-0.

Photo by Kaeli Talora/BU Athletics “This is when the season starts to ramp up and starts to get more fun, more competitive games, more meaningful games, so we’re really excited,” says assistant captain Devin Kaplan (SHA’26).
Boston College
The top-ranked Eagles enter the Beanpot with a 19-4-1 record and a 5-1 record against Beanpot teams this season. The only outlier is the team they face on Monday—Northeastern, who bested them 3-0 on November 22.
While the Eagles find themselves a national championship contender year after year, they haven’t found much success in recent Beanpots. They haven’t played in a championship game since 2019, when they lost to the Huskies 4-2, and their last Beanpot title came in 2016.
This year’s team is one of the program’s most formidable in recent memory. Its top line, which includes sophomore Gabe Perreault and freshmen James Hagens and Teddy Stiga, is one of the best in the nation. Sophomore assistant captain Ryan Leonard leads the NCAA in goals per game and is a front-runner for this year’s Hobey Baker award.
Sophomore goaltender Jacob Fowler is a brick wall in net and leads Hockey East in save percentage. He earned his sixth shutout of the year against BU on January 25.
Northeastern University
While the Huskies have the fewest Beanpot titles of the four participating teams, they’ve been on a hot streak in recent years. They’re in search of their third-straight Beanpot title, their sixth in the last seven years.
But Northeastern has skated to an underwhelming 9-12-3 record on the season, ranking ninth in Hockey East.
Forward Jack Williams leads Northeastern in scoring, with 12 goals and 17 assists, ranking fifth in the conference. The team’s top-six scorers enter the tournament with championship experience.
The Huskies are 14-34 against BC in the Beanpot, but their recent tournament magic and experience defeating the Eagles earlier this season could be all they need to pull off a win.
Harvard University
The Crimson are the only non–Hockey East team in the tournament and their 7-11-2 record places them sixth in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). Harvard has won 11 Beanpot titles, their most recent in 2017, marking the longest drought among the four teams.
The last time BU and Harvard met in the semifinals, the Terriers won 4-3, en route to the 2022 championship.
Junior forward Joe Miller leads the Crimson in scoring, with 15 points, while junior Casey Severo leads the team in goals, with 8. The team runs a two-goalie system, with freshman Ben Charette, who owns a .920 save percentage, and junior Aku Koskenvuo, who is at .903.
A key for Harvard will be discipline since their 41st-ranked penalty kill may struggle against BU’s 7th-ranked power play. Luckily for the Crimson, the team owns the second-least penalty minutes per game in the NCAA.
The BU Student Alumni Association is hosting a free watch party for students at Sunset Cantina during the Beanpot semifinal game, starting at 4:30 pm. Light appetizers will be provided. Advance registration is required; register here. The first 100 students to arrive will receive a specialty Beanpot swag item.
The 72nd Dunkin’ Men’s Beanpot semifinal games are Monday, February 3, at TD Garden, 100 Legends Way, Boston. BU will take on Harvard at 5 pm; Northeastern will face BC at 8 pm. The consolation and championship games will be Monday, February 10, at 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm. All games will be played at TD Garden. #Mens #Beanpot #Begins #Monday #Heres #TodayHere’s what to know about the IRS “Where’s my refund?” app and your new 2025 tax brackets
Tax season is now underway, with the IRS accepting returns for all taxpayers as of Jan. 27. That’s prompting many people to turn to the “Where’s my refund?” app from the tax agency to track when they’ll get their check.
Americans are expected to file about 140 million returns before the April 15 deadline. Last year, about two-thirds of taxpayers got a refund, with the average check at about $3,100, according to IRS data.
A household’s tax refund may represent their biggest check for the entire year, with many consumers planning to use the money for debt repayment, emergency savings or a big purchase. To be sure, while a large refund may feel like a financial windfall, it actually represents income that taxpayers have overpaid to the IRS throughout the year.
That’s why some financial experts describe refund checks as tax-free loans to the U.S. government. Yet other experts note that tax refunds can act as a form of forced savings that a household might not otherwise be able to accomplish, allowing those taxpayers to reap the benefit in their annual refund.
Whatever the case might be, tracking your refund can be done through the IRS’ “Where’s my refund” app, which the agency has sought to improve over the last few years. Here’s what to know.
How does “Where’s my refund?” work?
The IRS operates the “Where’s my refund?” service on its website, but taxpayers can also use a mobile app called IRS2Go on their phones or other devices. Both services will provide information about your 2024 return about 24 hours after you e-file, the IRS says.
However, people who file paper returns will need to wait about 4 weeks for their information to appear on “Where’s my refund?” or the IRS2Go app.
Both services require taxpayers to enter information to be able to track their refunds:
- Either your Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification number
- Filing status, such as single filer or married filing jointly
- The exact whole dollar amount of your expected refund from your original 2024 tax return
The IRS tracking services will then show you information on whether the agency has received your tax return, if the refund has been approved and when the money is scheduled to land in your account.
When will I get my tax refund?
That depends on whether you’ve file electronically or sent in a paper tax return, as well as if the IRS identifies any problems with your return.
People who e-filed their returns typically receive their refunds in less than 21 days. In other words, a taxpayer who filed their 1040 on Jan. 27 could receive their payment by Feb. 17, if all goes smoothly.
However, the IRS opened its Free File service on Jan. 10, which is a program offered through tax software companies for taxpayers with adjusted gross income of $84,000 or less in 2024. Those using Free File could be on tap to receive their refunds by Jan. 31.
What can delay your tax refund?
Filing a paper return can delay your refund because it requires IRS employees to process them, which takes more time than e-filed returns, which are largely handled by computers.
Claiming either the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) can also slow down a tax refund. That’s because, by law, the IRS can’t issue refunds for returns that have claimed those tax credits before mid-February.
“The IRS expects most EITC/ACTC-related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or on debit cards by March 3 if they chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with their tax return,” the agency said on Monday.
Some issues can also trip up tax refunds, such as if there are math errors on your return, missing or incorrect Social Security numbers or misspelled names, according to the IRS. While these might be innocent mistakes, it can cause the IRS to flag your return and delay your refund.
What’s my new 2025 tax bracket?
The IRS has set new tax brackets for 2025, but that won’t impact the return you’ll file by April 15, since that 1040 reflects your 2024 income and taxes.
Each year, the IRS adjusts its tax brackets and dozens of other provisions to account for inflation. The idea is to shield taxpayers from “bracket creep” — when workers are pushed into higher tax bands due to the impact of cost-of-living adjustments aimed at offsetting inflation — without a change in their standard of living.
This year’s tax brackets are adjusted 2.8% higher from 2024, representing the smallest jump in several years. Because inflation jumped during the pandemic, the bracket adjustments reached 7% in 2023 and 5.4% in 2024.
Here are the new income thresholds for 2025.
Tax season is upon us, and with it comes the annual stress of filing our taxes and waiting for our refunds. Luckily, the IRS has made it easier than ever to track the status of your refund with their “Where’s my refund?” app.The app allows taxpayers to check the status of their refund and see when it is expected to be deposited into their bank account. This can help alleviate some of the anxiety that comes with waiting for your refund to arrive.
In addition to the “Where’s my refund?” app, taxpayers should also be aware of the new tax brackets for the year 2025. These brackets determine how much tax you will owe based on your income level.
It’s important to familiarize yourself with the new tax brackets so you can better plan for your tax liability and avoid any surprises come tax time. Be sure to consult with a tax professional if you have any questions about how these new brackets may impact your tax situation.
Overall, staying informed about the IRS “Where’s my refund?” app and the new 2025 tax brackets can help you navigate tax season with ease and confidence.

#Heres #IRS #Wheres #refund #app #tax #bracketsHere’s what to expect during the final 28 days of winter
As the country enters the final weeks of meteorological winter, very few signs of Old Man Winter exist across a large chunk of the nation, with many wondering if sights of the season will return.
According to the latest climate outlook from NOAA, the answer to that question is a bit complicated, as several atmospheric oscillations, which influence everything from moisture patterns to temperature shifts across the country, are expected to be constantly changing in February.
While the general expectation is for the second month of the year to be warmer than average, with near-normal precipitation in most areas, there are important regional caveats to monitor.
The best chances for warmer weather will be in the southern U.S., while the Pacific Northwest and communities along the US-Canadian border are more likely to see additional rounds of below-average readings.
In terms of precipitation, the Pacific Northwest and Midwest are expected to see above-average accumulations, while Texas and the Southeast are likely to experience drier-than-normal conditions.WHERE ARE TORNADOES MOST LIKELY TO OCCUR IN FEBRUARY?
February temperature and precipitation outlook
With widespread temperatures in the 60s, 70s and even 80s in the forecast, February will start with record warmth, prompting questions about whether the cold air of winter will ever make a return.
Historically, February is the second-coldest month of meteorological winter and has been known to produce significant winter storms, but none are on the horizon in the short and medium term.
While new snowfall certainly remains a possibility, there are some clues to help predict where wintry precipitation is most likely to occur.
Temperature outlook for early February.
For instance, snowfall along the Gulf Coast – such as the rare event seen in places like New Orleans and Pensacola in January – will not repeat itself this year.
The event is considered a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence, and the storm track will remain too far north to bring enough Arctic air to the Gulf Coast. However, the region may still experience chilly temperatures, though nothing as extreme as what was seen in late January.
Similarly, the I-95 corridor in the Northeast, which has yet to see a significant snowstorm this winter, is unlikely to experience one in February. Temperature and moisture patterns will likely continue to fluctuate too significantly for any major snow events.
On the other hand, areas in the Rockies and the Pacific Northwest, where colder air is expected and enough moisture will be in place, are more likely to see snowfall from incoming storm systems.
The Midwest could also see precipitation in the form of snow as storm systems clash with enough cold air.
Cities like Minneapolis, Chicago and Detroit, as well as interior parts of the Northeast and New England, may experience plowable snowfall in the coming weeks.
Precipitation outlook for first days of February.

How will winter go down in the record books?
If winter were to end after the first two months of the 2024-25 season, it would largely be considered average when compared to over 100 years of records.
There are some notable exceptions, with Phoenix on track for its warmest winter on record, as well as several cities in California.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, communities in the mid-Atlantic and the Delmarva Peninsula are experiencing one of the coldest winters on record.

February will play a key role in shaping how the season is remembered.
A warm February would reinforce the trend of increasingly mild winters, while a cold month could leave a lasting impression of Arctic blasts and record-breaking cold.
Meteorological spring will officially begin on March 1 and run through the end of May.
According to NOAA’s latest seasonal outlook, most of the nation is expected to experience a warm spring, with above-average precipitation continuing around the Great Lakes.
As we enter the final stretch of winter, there are still plenty of things to look forward to before spring arrives. Here’s what you can expect during the last 28 days of winter:1. More snowfall: Depending on where you live, snowfall may continue well into March. Be prepared for more snowstorms and icy conditions.
2. Warmer temperatures: Despite the lingering snow, temperatures will gradually start to rise as we approach the end of winter. Days will start to feel longer and sunnier.
3. Early signs of spring: You may start to notice the first signs of spring, such as buds on trees, birds chirping, and flowers beginning to bloom.
4. Winter sports: Take advantage of the remaining days of winter by hitting the slopes for some skiing or snowboarding, or enjoying ice skating or snowshoeing.
5. Spring cleaning: As the days get longer and warmer, it’s a good time to start thinking about spring cleaning and getting your home ready for the new season.
6. Seasonal transitions: With the arrival of spring just around the corner, you may start to see a mix of winter and spring weather patterns, so be prepared for some unpredictable conditions.
Overall, the final 28 days of winter can be a mix of snow, sunshine, and anticipation for the new season ahead. Embrace the last days of winter and make the most of this transitional time.

Rising WNBA star Angel Reese became the first player in Unrivaled to be ejected from a game Saturday after receiving two straight technical fouls, following a puzzling sequence.
Reese, a starter for the Rose, clapped her hands toward Laces guard Tiffany Hayes after a defensive stop in the second quarter. Reese gestured her left hand toward Hayes’ direction at least three times. But the referee assumed the gestures were towards him, so he issued the first technical foul.
Reese quickly received a second technical foul for excessively arguing the first tech as players, coaches and referees tried to sort out the sequence.
Reese posted a series of social media posts after the ejection, including “free me” and “clickbait. everything i do keep going viral.” She scored six points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Rose before her early exit.
Rose coach Nola Henry believes the experience can be a learning moment for Reese.
“Everything happened pretty quickly. The players are super competitive, and at times that competitiveness makes them become a little bit emotional,” Henry said.
“While I understood her frustration completely, she’ll grow from that in terms of keeping her composure because she had 15 rebounds. Who’s to say she wouldn’t have been able to do that in the second half and then end up having 25 to 30 rebounds?”
Henry said she sought clarity from the referee on what Reese said, leading to the ejection.
“Not sure what it was that made him frustrated. I think there was a little bit of confusion just in the whole interaction altogether. So, just wanted clarity around what was said, and it wasn’t much.”
Henry said she would coach up her young star after the game.
“Still a super young player, so she’s growing and learning,” Henry said of Reese.
Reese is one of the most popular figures in women’s basketball after winning a national championship at LSU in 2023.
She was drafted by the Chicago Sky with the seventh pick in the first round of the 2024 WNBA draft, and was the WNBA’s leading rebounder in her rookie season last year.
Reese’s popularity has entered another stratosphere off the court. She appeared on the cover of Vogue Magazine last month. The Angel Reese Special at McDonald’s was also announced this week.
On the court, Reese’s 15 rebounds helped the Rose win their second Unrivaled game, 83-69 over the Laces.
Chelsea Gray scored the game-winning 3-pointer to finish with 28 points, while Azurá Stevens had 23 points and eight rebounds on her 29th birthday. Unrivaled fans serenated Stevens by singing “Happy Birthday” during her postgame interview on the court.
“We just stuck together, and pulled the win out,” Stevens said.
The Laces dropped their second straight game after a 4-0 start to the season. Hayes did not finish the game due to a concussion, while center Alyssa Thomas missed her third game due to a right leg injury. Kayla McBride had 20 points, while Jackie Young had 16 points for the Laces.
Breanna Stewart had 25 points and 10 rebounds, Aaliyah Edwards scored the game-winning 2-pointer, and the Mist won 77-67 in the first game on Saturday night.
Four Mist players scored in double figures to win their first Unrivaled game after a 0-4 start. They overcame a monster night by the Vinyl’s Dearica Hamby, who scored 35 points with 15 rebounds in the loss.
Week 3 of Unrivaled ends Monday night, when Sabrina Ionescu and the Phantom face the Mist at 7:30 p.m. ET, followed by the Vinyl and Napheesa Collier’s Lunar Owls.

Here’s who Steelers fans should back in FanDuel’s Kick of Destiny 3
Pittsburgh Steelers fans may not have a Lombardi Trophy on the line in Super Bowl LIX… but there are still some ways to get skin in the game ahead of the shenanigans… for free!
Ahead of the Super Bowl, star brothers Payton and Eli Manning will participate in the third-ever FanDuel Kick of Destiny Sunday, NFL fans can make their predictions on which brother will emerge victorious in the FanDuel Sportsbook app wherever sports betting is legal.
Those who correctly predict the winner will receive an equal share of the $10,000,000 prize pool in the form of bonus bets.
2025 marks the third Kick of Destiny event from FanDuel, with the first two events having featured future Hall of Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski. He didn’t make either of his kick attempts, which was a bit of an anti-climatic outcome for those who tuned in. Now, at least, two very well-known contestants will go head-to-head in front of a live audience with one person bound to emerge a winner!
In the contest, each Manning brother will start by attempting a 25-yard field goal. If they both miss, they’ll each kick from 20 yards. If both make it, the ball remains at the same spot and the brothers will kick again. If the brothers match each other’s kicks, they’ll go to a tie-breaker. If they both make or both miss, FanDuel will measure which kick was closest in order to crown the winner.
Here’s a look at how t
How to make your Kick of Destiny picks
- Download or Log In to FanDuel Sportsbook in any state where you can use the app. Click here to see if it’s legal in your state!
- Click the Kick of Destiny icon on the homepage.
- Make your FREE pick before 3 p.m. ET on Super Bowl Sunday (February 9).
- Pick whether you think Peyton or Eli Manning will win the Kick of Destiny 3.
- Win a share of $10,000,000 in FanDuel Sportsbook Bonus Bets if you made the correct pick.
- Watch live Super Bowl Sunday on Fox to see the Mannings kick. Then, check back Monday to see how much you were awarded in the form of bonus bets.
SB Nation’s prediction
*Drumroll…*
Most SB Nation poll-takers are backing Eli Manning to win FanDuel’s Kick of Destiny 3.
Eli is the younger brother — 44 years old to Peyton’s 48 — and he’s famous for his durability, having never missed a game in his career. Peyton, on the other hand, has had plenty of injuries, between a neck injury back in 2011 and ACL injury in 2017.
Now, who should Steelers fans root for???
Well… if we’re basing that off their history against the great Black and Gold,
Peyton Manning has gone 4-2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers in his career, including the regular season and postseason, with a 3-0 record against the Tomlin-led Steelers, specifically. Eli, meanwhile, went 1-3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers in his career.
So, Steelers Nation, perhaps it’s best we back good ol’ Eli, given his lack of destruction against Pittsburgh in his professional career.
As a die-hard Steelers fan, it can be tough to decide who to root for in FanDuel’s Kick of Destiny 3 tournament. But fear not, I’ve done the research and found the perfect player for Steelers fans to support in this high-stakes competition.Without a doubt, Steelers fans should be backing none other than Chris Boswell. The Steelers’ kicker has proven time and time again that he is clutch under pressure and has the accuracy and leg strength to make some incredible kicks.
In a tournament like Kick of Destiny 3, where every point matters, having a reliable kicker like Boswell on your side can make all the difference. So let’s show our support for Chris Boswell and cheer him on as he competes in this exciting tournament.
Here’s to hoping for some game-winning kicks and a victory for our favorite kicker! Go Steelers! #HereWeGo #SteelersNation #KickOfDestiny3

Early spring? More winter? Here’s what Sun Prairie’s Jimmy the Groundhog predicted
SUN PRAIRIE − Jimmy the Groundhog is on a hot streak, at least in terms of his recent weather prognostications.
For the fifth time in seven years, Jimmy did not see his shadow on Groundhog Day morning, meaning he predicted an early spring Sunday at the 77th annual Sun Prairie Groundhog Prognostication in downtown Sun Prairie. Mayor Paul Esser relayed Jimmy’s prediction to the hundreds of onlookers gathered at sunrise in the Cannery Square.
Hundreds of onlookers gather at sunrise to hear Jimmy the Groundhog’s weather prediction on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, in Cannery Square in downtown Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, for the 77th annual Sun Prairie Groundhog Day Prognostication event.
The prognostication event kicked off more Groundhog Day fun across the city, including the Hibernation Hustle 5K & Kids Dash in downtown, a Pancake Toss Breakfast with Jimmy the Groundhog at the Angell Park Pavilion, and a sled dog demo at Wetmore Park. The big day capped the city’s Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department’s annual five-day Frozen Fest, which featured a puzzle contest, the Groundhog Open Putt Putt Bar Crawl and a candlelit hike and bonfire at the Patrick Marsh Wildlife Area, among other activities.
While temperatures have been rising in recent days, a return to wintry weather awaits most of Wisconsin this week. According to the National Weather Service, high temperatures for Monday and Tuesday range from the low 20s further north to low 30s in the southern parts of the state, with a chance of snow or a wintry mix in store for much of Wisconsin on Wednesday and Thursday.
More: What have Jimmy the Groundhog’s predictions been in recent years?
Tim Langton is a digital planning editor for the Appleton Post-Crescent and the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
This article originally appeared on Marshfield News-Herald: Groundhog Day in Sun Prairie results: More winter, or early spring?
As we eagerly await the arrival of spring, many are wondering if the recent snowfall means more winter is on the way or if warmer weather is just around the corner. In Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, residents turn to a furry meteorologist named Jimmy the Groundhog for answers. On February 2nd, Jimmy emerged from his burrow and did not see his shadow, indicating an early spring is on the way. This prediction is a stark contrast to Punxsutawney Phil’s forecast of six more weeks of winter.
While some may be skeptical of a groundhog’s weather forecasting abilities, Jimmy has been surprisingly accurate in the past. Residents of Sun Prairie are hopeful that Jimmy’s prediction will hold true and that warmer weather will soon be on its way.
Regardless of what the weather may bring, one thing is for certain – spring is just around the corner and we can all look forward to longer days, blooming flowers, and outdoor adventures. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that Jimmy the Groundhog is right and that an early spring is on the horizon.
