  • Pat Rafter’s warning for Alex de Minaur amid Lleyton Hewitt detail behind campaign

Aussie tennis legend Pat Rafter has warned Alex de Minaur about the threat American Alex Michelsen possesses in the Australian Open as the 25-year-old looks to emulate a Lleyton Hewitt feat. De Minaur was in stellar form heading into his round three clash, before battling past Fransisco Cerundolo in four sets after a wayward serving match.

The No.8 seed acknowledged his struggles in the clash, but gestured throughout the contest he was finding his electric feet again after showcasing his quick skills around the court. De Minaur is the last remaining Aussie in the men’s and women’s singles draw and the nation is rallying behind the grand slam hope.

De Minaur is hoping to become the first Aussie male to win the Australian Open since Mark Edmondson in 1976. However, former World No.1 and Aussie tennis great Rafter has warned de Minaur not to take his next opponent lightly.

De Minaur will face young American Michelsen in the fourth round as he looks to reach his first ever Australian Open quarter-final. The Australian is also looking to become the first Australian male to reach the quarter-final of four straight grand slam tournaments since Hewitt in 2005.

And Rafter has claimed de Minaur has to be cautious of Michelsen’s powerful groundstrokes when he plays on Rod Laver Arena. “I back him against Michelsen,” Rafter said ahead of the round of 16 showdown.

“I know Michelson’s got a really big game. Can he keep it together against someone like Alex? I think it’s a bad match-up for Michelsen personally. But this guy’s got a really big game and, if he can keep it together, he can cause a lot of destruction, I think Michelsen.”

De Minaur is accustomed to Michelsen’s game having played the American twice last year. De Minaur was too strong for Michelsen at Roland Garros having dismantled the 20-year-old on a slow clay cout. However, there only other meeting was on hard court and Michelsen defeated de Minaur at Los Cabos.

“He’s been playing really well. He’s a dangerous opponent with a lot of confidence now. He’s taken some big scalps this week, so I’m ready for a battle,” de Minaur said. “He’s going to go out there with no fear. I’m going to do my best to make it difficult for him.”

Regardless, de Minaur will fancy himself to grind out a win against the American having pointed out in his last post-match press conference he was finding his feet once again after a disrupted 2024 season. De Minaur has returned in the 2025 season fitter and stronger after overcoming a brutal hip injury that curtailed his US Open campaign.

De Minaur admitted he wasn’t at his best having battled past Cerundolo in the third round. Cerundolo took the first set, but started to physically struggle in the third.

The Aussie showcased his trademark grit and determination to get on top of his opponent and battered his rival into submission. And de Minaur admitted he felt it was a good moment for him at Melbourne Park.

“I reckon this is probably the first match that I’ve played here in Oz where I’ve felt, like today, that I didn’t feel comfortable,” he told reporters after his third round win.

“I felt all of a sudden a little bit of pressure playing. I didn’t know what to do. I just told myself to go out there and compete. A part of me knew that at some point there was going to be always a match where pressure was going to be there and the nerves were going to be there, kind of the expectation was going to be there… I just told myself to go out there, compete. Geez, I’d rather win ugly any day over losing pretty, right? Ultimately I lived to fight another day. My next one I’ll make sure I bring a better level.”

If De Minaur wins and reaches his first ever Australian Open quarter-final, he is likely to face World No.1 Jannik Sinner. The Aussie has failed to defeat the Italian and is 0-9 against the reigning Australian Open champion.

Former Australian tennis star Pat Rafter has issued a warning to rising star Alex de Minaur amid reports of tension between him and Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt.

Rafter, who famously won the US Open in 1997 and reached the Wimbledon final in 2000, urged de Minaur to stay focused on his game and not get caught up in any drama surrounding Hewitt.

“It’s important for Alex to remember that his main focus should be on his tennis and not on any off-court distractions,” Rafter said. “Lleyton is a great captain and has done a lot for Australian tennis, so it’s important for everyone to respect his decisions and leadership.”

Rafter’s warning comes as details behind a campaign to oust Hewitt as Davis Cup captain have emerged, with reports suggesting that some players, including de Minaur, were unhappy with Hewitt’s management style.

Despite the controversy, Rafter believes that de Minaur has the talent and potential to be a top player in the world and should not let any off-court drama affect his performance on the court.

“Alex is a fantastic player with a bright future ahead of him,” Rafter said. “He needs to block out any negativity and focus on his game, because that’s what will ultimately lead to success in his career.”

It remains to be seen how de Minaur will handle the situation with Hewitt moving forward, but Rafter’s warning serves as a reminder for the young star to stay focused and keep his eyes on the prize.

  • Jennifer Love Hewitt on her experience with ageism in Hollywood

Jennifer Love Hewitt on her experience with ageism in Hollywood

Jennifer Love Hewitt is the self-love whisperer.

The actress, 45, recently got candid on how ageism has played a part in her decadeslong career in Hollywood.

“I feel like fans pick this age that they love that they think represents you, and you’re never supposed to grow beyond that,” Hewitt told Fox New Digital in an interview published on Thursday. “For me, it was like me and my 20s. People seem to have a really hard time accepting that I don’t look that way anymore.”

The “Time of Your Life” alum started acting at a young age on “Kids Incorporated” before landing her first big break at 16 years old as Sarah Reeves on Fox’s “Party of Five.”

Two years later, she starred in the iconic 1997 slasher “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and its sequel. Along with several popular television shows, including “Ghost Whisperer” and “The Client List,” Hewitt has recorded four studio albums.

The “Heartbreakers” vet — who shares kids Autumn, 11, Atticus, 9, and Aidan, 3, with husband Brian Hallisay — added that she doesn’t want her children to see those types of negative comments.

“I have a daughter, I’m sensitive to it because I don’t want my kids to read those things and feel that way … or worry about me being hurt by it … it’s hard to do that sometimes,” Hewitt explained.

The singer noted, “It’s hard because I think as humans, we want to evolve … we want to have lines on our faces, and you know, our boobs be lower from breast-feeding our children, or you know, our butt’s bigger.”

“Whatever it is, you just want to have the freedom to be whoever you are at that age. And it’s hurtful sometimes when people reject you as you are verbally on Instagram or the internet because they’re having a hard time adjusting to it.”

Although the “Holiday Junkie” star has seen the public’s response to her getting older, Hewitt still loves where she is today.

“Age is age,” she continued. “I think women really come into this … acceptance of themselves and comfortability in their 40s that is beautiful. I love being in my 40s. I really do.”

Last year, Hewitt clapped back at claims she was “unrecognizable” after sharing a photo with a filter and no makeup on Instagram. Many commented that she looked vastly different

“The picture ended up somewhere. And a bunch of people were like, ‘Jennifer Love Hewitt is unrecognizable,’” she recalled on the “Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum” podcast at the time.

“‘She’s unrecognizable and so she’s gone to filters because she doesn’t want us to know how bad she actually looks now in her 40s.’ And I was like, ‘This is crazy.’ Right?”

Acknowledging her physique back in the day, Hewitt quipped, “She was a looker,” but added that “at 23, 24, 25, I didn’t feel self-confident.”

“I felt watched. I felt like I had to be everything for everybody all the time,” she elaborated. “I was called sexy before I ever knew what being sexy was. I was 17 years old on the cover of Maxim, and I had no idea why.”

Hewitt even recounted an experience during filming the 2001 film “Heartbreakers” where she was told to “be sexier” on the rom-com set.

“I know that I’m supposed to be this thing for people, but I don’t know what that means,” she told a producer at the time.

Touching on the public’s perception, Hewitt said, “It’s weird for me when people are like, ‘That’s the girl that we wanted you to be.’”

“That girl was so insecure and so confused and trying her best. But this girl — who may not look [that] way — I like who I am. I feel good. I’m fine.”

“I’m a mother of a girl, and it’s dangerous what we put on people,” Hewitt stated. “It’s dangerous to say to women, ‘You can’t look like you’re not 22 to me anymore.’”

Ageism is a prevalent issue in Hollywood, with many actors and actresses facing discrimination as they get older. Jennifer Love Hewitt, known for her roles in popular TV shows like “Party of Five” and “Ghost Whisperer,” has also experienced ageism in the industry.

In a recent interview, Hewitt opened up about her own encounters with ageism and how it has affected her career. She shared that as she has gotten older, she has noticed a decrease in the number of roles being offered to her. Hewitt expressed frustration at the lack of opportunities for women in Hollywood once they reach a certain age, feeling like she is being pushed out of the spotlight.

Despite the challenges she has faced, Hewitt remains hopeful and determined to continue pursuing her passion for acting. She believes that there is a shift happening in Hollywood, with more emphasis being placed on diversity and inclusivity in casting. Hewitt hopes that this change will lead to more opportunities for actresses of all ages to showcase their talent and skills.

Jennifer Love Hewitt’s honesty about her experience with ageism in Hollywood sheds light on an important issue within the industry. It serves as a reminder that age should not dictate an actor’s worth or ability to succeed in their career. Hopefully, her voice will help bring about positive change and create a more equitable and inclusive environment for all actors in Hollywood.

Jennifer Love Hewitt is fighting back against ageism in Hollywood.

While Hewitt has been in the spotlight for decades, she pushed back at critics who scrutinized her looks as she grew up in the industry.

“Age is age,” she told Fox News Digital. “I think women really come into this… acceptance of themselves and comfortability in their 40s that is beautiful.”

“The times that it’s hard for me though… I feel like fans pick… this age that they love that they think represents you, and you’re never supposed to grow beyond that,” she explained as she referenced a quote from Taylor Swift.

For Hewitt, she found that fans mostly idolized the way she was in her 20s. Hewitt is known for her role in the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” franchise, in which she starred alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr., as well as “Heartbreakers” alongside Sigourney Weaver and the cult classic “Can’t Hardly Wait.”
