NFL Rumors: Robert Saleh Has 49ers Contract Offer to Become League’s Highest-Paid DC | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors

Former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh has a contract offer from the San Francisco 49ers to become the NFL’s highest-paid defensive coordinator, per The Athletic’s Matt Barrows.
That news was reported Friday on the latest edition of The TK Show with Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard (3:30 mark).
“I think it’s become obvious now that it’s Saleh or bust really, because they haven’t done much work with anybody else to this point,” Barrows said.
“And I’ve already heard that they’ve told Saleh, you know, ‘We will make you the highest-paid defensive coordinator in all the land if you sign with us.’ And now it’s just a matter of waiting for Saleh.”
Barrows noted that Saleh is getting “all sorts of head coaching attention,” though, so it’s certainly possible he could reject that opportunity if he gets a head coaching offer.
Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reported that there’s “real buzz” Saleh lands the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coaching job. Saleh interviewed with the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The Dallas Cowboys plan to interview Saleh on Monday, per Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports.
So there’s plenty of buzz connecting Saleh to three of the six open NFL head coaching jobs out there. However, there’s plenty of competition for Saleh at all three of those gigs.
In Dallas, Pro Football Hall of Famer, ex-Cowboys star and current Colorado head coach Deion Sanders could be the pick. NFL insider Ed Werder reported Thursday that he was told Sanders “would almost certainly accept” the position, presuming Cowboys owner Jerry Jones offers it.
In Jacksonville and Las Vegas, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, widely considered one of the top (if not the top) head coaching candidates, could be a pick.

The Raiders have also been linked with Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen, Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, per ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez.
So Saleh could be finding himself out of a head coaching job in this cycle. However, it’s clear he’d have a home back in San Francisco, where he was the defensive coordinator from 2017-2020 before joining the Jets in 2021.
Barrows reiterated, too, that the 49ers have made a “strong” and “top-of-the-market” offer to Saleh, so it doesn’t appear that he’ll be out of a job for long.

Staley has turned the Gamecocks into a national power that regularly competes for championships.
COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina Women’s Basketball Coach Dawn Staley is now the highest-paid coach in women’s college basketball history after signing a new contract Friday.
The University of South Carolina’s Board of Trustees approved the deal worth a total of $25.25 million. It begins immediately with a $4 million annual salary that escalates each year by $250,000, with her expected to be paid $5,250,000 in the final year. She’ll also get a $500,000 signing bonus. The deal runs through the 2029-30 season and also includes incentive clauses for reaching certain benchmarks, including $500,000 if she wins a national championship.
“I’m proud to represent the University of South Carolina and of its investment in women’s basketball,” Staley said in a statement. “What we’ve been able to accomplish on the court is a testament to what can happen when you bring together the right people from a team perspective but also have the right commitment from the University, the Athletics Department and the community to providing that team with everything it needs to be successful. I appreciate every person who has been part of our journey – player, staff member, University President and leadership, Board of Trustee member, athletics director, athletics department employee and fan. New University of South Carolina Athletics Director Jeremiah Donati said it was a chance to honor a coach who’s meant so much in her time at Carolina.
“Dawn Staley is a once-in-a-generation coach who has made a tremendous impact on the University of South Carolina,” said Donati. “She has elevated the sport of women’s basketball on the national level and here on campus and I am excited that she will be representing our University for many years to come.”
The Gamecocks are in the midst of yet another possible national championship run after capturing the title last season. In April of 2024, USC defeated Iowa 87-75 for their third title in program history. The Gamecocks became the first women’s team to go undefeated since UConn in 2016 and just the 10th team to go through an unblemished season, including the 2022-23 season, when they went undefeated until the Final Four.
Staley has coached the team since 2008, ushering in an era that’s seen the Gamecocks achieve milestone after milestone and become a national power in the sport. The Gamecocks are one of five programs to have at least three NCAA Women’s Basketball National Championships during the time since she began, and they are one of two programs to have put together multiple 40-game win streaks. Prior to her arrival, the team had never been ranked number one and never made a Final Four. Since then they’ve been ranked number one 86 times and have been to six Final Fours. She’s also coached two National Players of the Year, A’ja Wilson and Aliyah Boston, the first players in program history to win that award.

Dawn Staley is sticking around at South Carolina. The Gamecocks head coach has signed a lucrative extension that will keep her in South Carolina through the 2029-30 season, the school announced Friday.
The extension starts with an annual salary of $4 million and will grow by $250,000 each year, making Staley the highest-paid coach in NCAA women’s basketball history. In total, the deal — which also includes a $500,000 signing bonus — is worth around $25.5 million.
Staley’s deal dethrones LSU head coach Kim Mulkey, who signed a 10-year, $32 million deal in September 2023 to stay with the Tigers.
Since taking over the program in 2008, Staley has led the Gamecocks to eight SEC tournament titles, eight SEC regular-season titles and six Final Four appearances — including four consecutive appearances in the past four years. She is a four-time Naismith Coach of the Year and a seven-time SEC Coach of the Year, having picked up both awards for the past three seasons.
Staley has led South Carolina to three NCAA championships (2017, 2022, 2024), which is third all time in women’s basketball NCAA titles. Only UConn (11) and Tennessee (eight) have more.
So far this season, Staley’s Gamecocks are ranked No. 2 and are 17-1 overall, with their only loss coming to No. 1 UCLA. South Carolina has hit a tricky part of its schedule, with the team facing five ranked SEC opponents in a row. The Gamecocks took care of the first two obstacles with wins over then-No. 5 Texas on Sunday and No. 19 Alabama on Thursday. However, South Carolina faces Mulkey’s No. 5 Tigers on Thursday in what should be an exciting matchup.

South Carolina confirmed that the deal is worth approximately $25 million, making Staley the highest-paid coach in women’s college basketball.

Staley’s contract includes a $250,000 increase in each season and a $500,000 signing bonus, making the total contract value worth $25.2 million.
LSU coach Kim Mulkey was the previous highest-paid coach at $3.264 million per season. Staley’s previous contract was worth $3.1 million per season and UConn head coach Geno Auriemma also makes $3.1 million per season.
Staley has been South Carolina’s head coach since the 2008-09 season after beginning her coaching career at Temple. With the Gamecocks, Staley has compiled an overall record of 457-107 while leading the program to 13 NCAA Tournament appearances, four Final Four appearances and three National Championships.

Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has become the highest-paid female shuttler in the world, according to a Forbes list.
Sindhu, who has also won five BWF World Championship medals, including a gold in 2019, earned $7.1 million in 2024. She is ranked 17th on the list. With this earning, Sindhu is also the highest-paid female athlete in India.
“Sindhu’s name recognition may be lacking in the US, she is a huge marketing star in her native India. This is her sixth appearance on Forbes’ female athlete earnings ranking,” Forbes noted in its list for 2024.
The 29-year-old shuttler, who recently married Venkata Datta Sai in Udaipur, Rajasthan, is a 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist and won an Asian Games silver medal in 2018.
Sindhu led the Indian women’s team to their first title at the Badminton Asia Team Championships in February and also served as her country’s co-flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the Paris Summer Games.
