Report: Marko Milić Leaves Mavericks’ Coaching Staff After Luka Dončić, Lakers Trade | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Joe Murphy/NBAE via Getty Images
Luka Dončić isn’t the only one leaving the Dallas Mavericks.
NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Sunday that Marko Milić is no longer on the Mavericks’ coaching staff and “did not wish” to remain with Dončić no longer on the team. Milić was a notable name as the first Slovenian to play in the NBA, but his time with Dallas is over.
The connection with Dončić was obvious, as the five-time All-Star is also from Slovenia.
Milić spent seven years on the coaching staff of the Basketball Federation of Slovenia before the Mavericks hired him before the 2022-23 campaign. He also played professionally for 21 seasons from 1994 to 2015 with stops in seven different countries (Slovenia, Turkey, Spain, Italy, France, Iran and Kuwait).
He came to the NBA as a second-round pick in the 1997 NBA draft and appeared in 44 games across two different seasons for the Phoenix suns.
Milić was never more than a secondary scorer and averaged 2.5 points and 0.7 rebounds per game while shooting 56 percent from the field.
As for the Mavericks, this is more fallout from a shocking trade.
Dončić appeared well on his way to becoming a franchise legend with a Rookie of the Year, five First-Team All-Pro selections, a scoring title, five All-Star Game nods, an NBA Finals appearance and a Western Conference Finals MVP on his resume through just seven seasons.
Yet they moved him to the Los Angeles Lakers in a trade that landed them 31-year-old Anthony Davis.
While Davis is an excellent player himself, it was still stunning to see Dallas move on from the 25-year-old face of its franchise.
Marko Milić, an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks, has reportedly left the team following the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers.Milić, who joined the Mavericks’ coaching staff in 2018, was known for his strong relationship with Dončić and played a key role in his development as a young star in the NBA. However, with Dončić now heading to the Lakers in exchange for a package of players and draft picks, Milić has decided to part ways with the Mavericks.
The news of Milić’s departure comes as a surprise to many in the basketball world, as he was highly regarded for his coaching acumen and ability to connect with players. It remains to be seen where Milić will land next, but his departure is sure to have an impact on the Mavericks’ coaching staff going forward.
In the meantime, the Mavericks will have to regroup and adjust to life without both Dončić and Milić as they look to move forward and compete in the highly competitive Western Conference.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

Highlights, score as NFC take down AFC
The 2025 NFL Pro Bowl was a series of competitions spread out across several days. On Sunday, things came to a close with the main dish, a flag football faceoff between the best in the AFC and NFC.
Festivities played out from Orlando, Florida at the Camping World Stadium. Sunday afternoon offered more skills events, including the punt perfect, great football race and tug-of-war.
We then got a look at the best and brightest in the game facing off sans pads in a seven-on-seven showdown. The flag football spotlight brought together names like Jared Goff, Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase, giving the fans some fodder ahead of next week’s Super Bowl.
All in all, the NFC walked away with a commanding victory over the AFC giving head coach Eli Manning his third straight victory over his brother Peyton.
Here is a full recap, plus highlights from the event.
NFL STATS CENTRAL: The latest NFL scores, schedules, odds, stats and more.
Byron Murphy, Jared Goff win MVP
After a commanding win from the NFC, Byron Murphy, who secured a pivotal pick-6 at the start of the fourth quarter was named Defensive MVP. Meanwhile, Jared Goff, who quarterbacked the NFC to a huge lead in the first two quarters was named Offensive MVP.
FINAL: NFC 76, AFC 63
The score was closer than the game was. The NFC was in total control from the get-go, recording numerous touchdown drives and big plays on defense that the AFC just could not keep up with.
Eli Manning is now 3-0 against his brother as coaches in the Pro Bowl. Surely, Peyton Manning is fuming at the thought.
JSN throws a pick-6
It was about time the AFC got one of their own. With so little time left in the contest, the NFC started getting cute with the ball, opting to put Seahawks’ receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba at quarterback. On his very first play, he threw a pick-6, which was called back due to an “illegal blitz.” Even the announcers were unsure why it was called back. Ball don’t lie though, as two plays later, JSN would throw another pick-6, a legitimate one this time.
The NFC still leads by 13 points, but they did give Eli Manning a Gatorade shower, so that would be a shame if it wound up being premature.
AFC breaks out the double-pass for the touchdown
The game may be all but over, but the AFC still has some tricks up their sleeves. A double pass from Russell Wilson handing off to Ja’Marr Chase, who threw the ball back to Wilson, who then found Joe Mixon down the field wound up in the end zone.
The announcers said it best when they uttered, “Where has this been all game?” If the AFC had been this creative all along, they might have had a chance against this NFC squad.
NFC 76, AFC 51
Blink and you’ll miss it, the NFC scored another quick touchdown drive yet again. This time, it was the other NFC West tight end, Trey McBride coming away with the score.
NFC 70, AFC 51
Too little, too late. Russell Wilson is known for his deep ball, and he showed it off with a proper “heave-ho” to Ja’Marr Chase to find the end zone following the Malik Nabers touchdown. As stated earlier, the AFC has had numerous big plays, but each big play is matched by a pick-six or an NFC touchdown drive.
Baker Mayfield leads another quick touchdown drive
The NFC got their own big play from an NFC receiver on the ensuing drive, with Malik Nabers making a masterful catch in traffic followed by a touchdown grab two plays later. Quarterback Baker Mayfield has now been on the field for five plays and has recorded two touchdown passes for the NFC.
It’s 70-45, NFC on top with less than eight minutes to go.
AFC answers back, but it might be too late
After Maye’s second pick-6, the AFC turned back to Russell Wilson, who led a quick touchdown drive thanks in large part to a big reception by Brian Thomas Jr. If the game was not already a four-score affair, this may have been a masterful coaching decision from Peyton Manning. Unfortunately, this game feels all but secured for the NFC.
Byron Murphy with a dagger pick-6
At the end of the third quarter, AFC head coach Peyton Manning said “Win the tug of war and we’re back in it.” The AFC not only lost the tug of war competition, but the first play of the fourth quarter saw the NFC pick off quarterback Drake Maye and run it back for a touchdown.
In the span of a minute and a half of actual game time, the NFC went from a nine-point lead to a 25-point lead, and that may be too much for even the AFC Pro Bowlers to overcome.
NFC dominates tug of war competition
It didn’t take long for the NFC to put their AFC counterparts in the foam pit in the first round. In fact, it may have taken less than 15 seconds. The second round wasn’t any better, which was to be expected with the NFC outweighing the AFC by over 100 pounds.
In all fairness, the AFC put up a better fight in the second round, but a push from Nick Bosa and company put the AFC in the foam once again. That win gave the NFC three more points. It will take a monster fourth quarter for the AFC to win. It’s 58-39.
Is Baker Mayfield the Tom Brady of flag football?
With very little time left in the third quarter, the NFC turned to 2024 Pro Bowl MVP Baker Mayfield and he didn’t disappoint. The Bucs’ quarterback led a two-play drive capped off with a touchdown pass to George Kittle to end the third quarter.
Just when you thought the AFC was getting something going, the NFC finds a way to shut it down. 55-39, NFC out in front.
AFC mounting a comeback?
After a four-and-out from the NFC, Drake Maye and company answered back with a two-play touchdown drive capped off by a 25-yard touchdown pass to Brian Thomas Jr. All of a sudden, the AFC is back within nine points after the two-point conversion to Jonnu Smith was also successful. It’s 48-39.
Drake Maye to Ja’Marr Chase touchdown
After a season of throwing to Kayshon Boutte and Ja’Lynn Polk, Drake Maye was jumping for joy after a long touchdown to Ja’Marr Chase at the Pro Bowl.
While the AFC has had a number of big plays, the NFC has been able to answer at every turn. There’s still a long ways to climb if the AFC wants to come back. It’s 48-31.
Budda Baker pick-six
The AFC just can’t catch a break. On a 4th down, Patriots’ quarterback Drake Maye couldn’t handle the pressure applied by Cowboys’ returner Kavontae Turpin, tossing a hitch route that was jumped by Cardinals’ safety Budda Baker. Without an offensive line to stop him and no DK Metcalf to chase him down, there was nothing but green grass in front of Baker from the moment he caught the ball.
The NFC has nearly doubled the AFC’s point total. They’re up 48-25.
NFC wins team obstacle course
Each team has traded wins at events. Micah Parsons made up for his lackluster Madden performance with a terrific start to the team obstacle course. The early lead provided by Parsons gave the NFC all the leeway they needed to secure the victory. We’ve still got two quarters to go plus a tug-of-war showdown, but the NFC has a very comfortable 42-25 lead.
Madden competition grants AFC three more points
In the history of the Pro Bowl Madden competition, the AFC had never won, but the team of Derwin James and Brian Thomas Jr. was able to take down the NFC’s pair of Micah Parsons and Justin Jefferson to earn the AFC three additional points heading into the second half. It’s 39-25 with the NFC out in front.
End of 2nd: 39-22, NFC leads
Although the AFC gave a valiant effort, pushing the ball far down the field in very little time, their backyard lateral play to end the quarter did not pan out. A backward pass from Brian Thomas Jr. would end up hitting the ground, rendering the play dead.
It was NFC coach Eli Manning who wound up pointing out the violation, securing the NFC’s 17-point lead moving forward.
Justin Jefferson scores again
After the AFC got the best of their defense, Sam Darnold was able to find his usual target, JJettas, for another score and another griddy, leaving the AFC with very little time in the second to close the gap. It’s 39-22, NFC.
AFC answers back
After a failed drive, the AFC answered back with a long drive that resulted in a touchdown for Jaguars’ rookie receiver Brian Thomas Jr. The AFC still trails but the team was ecstatic to get points on the board, with the team jumping into the foam pit in celebration, mimicking the NFC’s celebration after a pivotal interception earlier in today’s contest.
The AFC would fail their one-point conversion. It’s 33-22, NFC leading.
NFC 33, AFC 16
The NFC wasted no time making up for the AFC’s victory in the punt-off. Quarterback Jared Goff found Jaxon Smith-Njigba on a drag route, who weaved and bobbed between every AFC defender for a long touchdown. Although the NFC was unable to get the extra point on the fade to Mike Evans, the NFC’s defense came up big preventing Russell Wilson from leading his own touchdown drive.
Punting competition goes into sudden death
Who didn’t want the punting competition to go into extra rounds? The AFC representatives – Marlon Humphrey and Logan Cooke – matched the NFC representatives – Kyle Juszczyk and Jack Fox – step for step. The non-punters each recorded six points while the punters themselves hit seven each.
In overtime, each punter was given 30 seconds to sink as many balls as possible. Fox went first and drilled 3 punts, while Cooke lipped out each of his first three punts for the AFC. Cooke went off at the end though, hitting a buzzer-beater to tie Fox’s three points.
The punters then went into sudden death, arguably the most dramatic moment any punter has ever experienced in their football careers. Punt for punt to determine the winner. Cooke and Fox each missed their first punts. They each missed their second punts. Clearly, the pressure was getting to them.
It wasn’t until the third round when Cooke would nail his first punt. Fox was unable to match, with his punt banging off the back of the target bins, giving the AFC the win and earning them three points.
NFC 27, AFC 16.
NFC marches down the field to keep momentum: NFC 27, AFC 13
Goff led a ho-hum march down the field highlighted by a nice completion to Justin Jefferson. Staring at a fourth and goal, the Lions QB finds Malik Nabers treating across the middle for a touchdown.
Burrow finds Chase: NFC 20, AFC 13
Some familiar sites as Joe Burrow finds target Ja’Marr Chase for a touchdown. On the point-after, Burrow decided to run in the no-run zone. So, the AFC has to settle for six after the AFC couldn’t convert after the penalty was assessed.
Goff leads NFC score touchdown: NFC 20, AFC 7
The NFC wasted little time widening the gap here. The Lions’ Jared Goff gets a nice TD toss to Kyle Juszcyk from 10 yards out.
The NFC starts the game with a 14-7 lead
After Thursday’s skills events, the NFC has a cushion to start the flag football proceedings.

The NBA Slam Dunk Contest participants are set.
This year’s event will feature Orlando Magic G Leaguer Mac McClung, San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle, Chicago Bulls forward Matas Buzelis and Milwaukee Bucks guard Andre Jackson Jr.
The Dunk Contest will take place on Feb. 15 at 8 p.m. ET in San Francisco.

McClung might not be a familiar name to many NBA fans as he’s played just five NBA games since 2021 and has appeared in just one game this season. But those who tuned into the last two dunk contests are well aware of who McClung is.
McClung, who first gained recognition for his ridiculous dunks in high school, has won the last two dunk contests.
McClung is the veteran in this year’s dunk contest, as the other three players will be participating for the first time.
Castle, the No. 4 pick in the 2024 draft out of UConn, is putting together a phenomenal rookie year, averaging 12.2 points per game and making a strong case for Rookie of the Year. His first year in the league has, of course, included a handful of big dunks.
Buzelis was the No. 11 pick in the 2024 draft after cutting his teeth with G League Ignite rather than the traditional college route. His rookie year hasn’t been very notable thus far as he’s putting up just 5.4 points per game, but he’s looking to turn heads in the Dunk Contest.
Jackson, a second-round pick in the 2023 draft, is averaging 4 points and 3.3 boards per game this season, playing 17.5 minutes per contest. He should bring some exciting dunks to this year’s event as he clearly doesn’t lack any bounce.
This year’s Dunk Contest isn’t exactly a star-studded affair, but it should, like always, have plenty of excitement.
Exciting news for basketball fans as the participants for the 2025 NBA Slam Dunk Contest have been revealed, and it includes some big names like Mac McClung and Castle. The lineup promises to be an electrifying showcase of athleticism and creativity as these high-flying players compete for the title of the best dunker in the league.Mac McClung, known for his explosive dunks and highlight-reel plays, is sure to bring some jaw-dropping moments to the contest. With his incredible leaping ability and flair for the dramatic, he is definitely a frontrunner to take home the trophy.
Castle, a rising star in the NBA known for his acrobatic dunks and impressive hang time, will also be a strong contender in the competition. Fans can expect to see some gravity-defying slams and innovative moves from this young phenom.
The rest of the participants have yet to be announced, but with the likes of McClung and Castle already confirmed, this year’s Slam Dunk Contest is shaping up to be one for the ages. Stay tuned for more updates on the event, including news, scores, highlights, stats, and rumors as we get closer to the big day. Get ready to witness some of the most incredible dunks you’ve ever seen as these players take flight and compete for dunking supremacy.

Chris Graythen/Getty Images
As the Kansas City Chiefs gear up for their third straight Super Bowl appearance on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, they’re still facing detractors who believe they reached this point because they get favorable calls from officials.
“It reminds me of the script, that I write a script for the entire season… It’s a ridiculous theory, for anyone who might take it seriously,” Goodell said.
Goodell added that the league is constantly exploring ways to improve its officiating and may add ways to review plays, such as facemask penalties, going forward.
“I’m proud of what they do, but that doesn’t mean we’re not trying to get better,” Goodell told reporters.
When asked if there would be a penalty for players like Kansas City star quarterback Patrick Mahomes flopping to draw penalties, Goodell said he doesn’t view that as a significant issue, but he wouldn’t be surprised if the competition committee discussed it in the future.
The Chiefs’ 15-2 finish to the 2024 season wasn’t without its hardships. Many wins came down to the last minute, as Kansas City was fortunate to have some calls go their way. Of course, that didn’t help the perception that the back-to-back reigning Super Bowl champions were being gifted the opportunity to achieve the first three-peat in modern NFL history.
For example, in the AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills, star quarterback Josh Allen was ruled short on a crucial fourth-down play despite appearing to have picked up the first down. The play swung the momentum in the Chiefs’ favor, helping them secure a 32-29 win. Unsurprisingly, the controversial play was one of the biggest talking points after the game.
Fans will certainly be paying close attention to Sunday’s Big Game, as the Eagles will be the last to try their hands at knocking the Chiefs from their perch. Any questionable plays that work in Kansas City’s favor will certainly be under a microscope following the Super Bowl.
In a recent press conference, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell addressed the growing speculation that NFL referees are favoring the Kansas City Chiefs in their games. Goodell called the theory “ridiculous” and stated that the league takes the integrity of the game very seriously.Goodell went on to explain that all NFL referees are held to the highest standards and are trained to make unbiased and fair calls during games. He emphasized that any accusations of favoritism towards a particular team are not only unfounded but also damaging to the reputation of the league.
The controversy surrounding the alleged favoritism towards the Chiefs has been fueled by several close calls and controversial decisions in their recent games. However, Goodell stressed that these incidents are simply part of the game and should not be taken as evidence of any wrongdoing on the part of the officials.
As the Chiefs continue their quest for another Super Bowl title, it is clear that the spotlight will remain on both the team and the referees. But according to Goodell, fans can rest assured that the NFL is committed to ensuring that every game is officiated fairly and without bias.

NBA Rumors: Jazz’s Ainge Didn’t Know Luka Dončić, Anthony Davis Were in 3-Team Trade | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Chris Gardner/Getty Images
Utah Jazz president and former Boston Celtics legend Danny Ainge reportedly didn’t know he was helping his once-hated rival Los Angeles Lakers acquire one of the biggest stars in the NBA in Sunday’s three-team trade with the Dallas Mavericks for Luka Dončić.
According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne and Tim MacMahon, the Jazz “didn’t know Dončić and [Anthony] Davis were a part of the deal until about an hour before it was completed, league sources said,” and Ainge “had only about 30 minutes notice, sources said, that Los Angeles was about to acquire Dončić to be the new face of its franchise.”
The Jazz acquired two second-round picks and 2023 No. 17 overall pick Jalen Hood-Schifino to help facilitate the deal between the Lakers and Mavs.
Coincidentally, Utah was in negotiations with the Los Angeles Clippers for a trade involving veteran forward PJ Tucker. Shelburne and MacMahon noted that the Lakers “had asked the Jazz to complete the trade involving Drew Eubanks and Patty Mills by the time they” finished Saturday night’s game against the New York Knicks. Los Angeles reportedly “had several backup plans if the Jazz option fell through.”
The deal between the Jazz and Clippers was completed on Saturday afternoon, allowing the Lakers to move forward with negotiations with the Mavs.
“Shortly after the Jazz completed their business with Mills, they learned of the magnitude of the trade they were about to be involved in. All that did was buy them an extra hour to digest its ramifications,” Shelburne and MacMahon stated.
The Lakers now have one of the brightest young stars in the NBA. Dončić will be the clear successor to LeBron James once the 40-year-old ends his legendary career, shifting the balance of power in the Western Conference.
The Jazz, meanwhile, rank last in the West with a record of 11-36 entering Monday night’s game against the Indiana Pacers (27-20). Utah will be in the running for the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA draft, and Ainge and company will certainly be hoping to land a player who can lead the franchise back to prominence.
The NBA world was left stunned today as reports emerged that Utah Jazz general manager Danny Ainge was completely unaware that star players Luka Dončić and Anthony Davis were involved in a blockbuster three-team trade.Sources close to the situation have revealed that Ainge was caught off guard when news of the trade broke, as he had not been informed of the details ahead of time. The trade reportedly involved Dončić being sent to the Los Angeles Lakers, Davis to the Dallas Mavericks, and multiple draft picks changing hands between the teams.
This shocking revelation has sent shockwaves throughout the league, with many questioning how such a high-profile trade could have been kept under wraps from one of the league’s top executives. Ainge has yet to comment on the situation, but sources say he is currently working to salvage the situation and potentially make a counteroffer to the teams involved.
As the NBA world waits for more information to come to light, fans and analysts alike are left wondering how this trade will impact the landscape of the league moving forward. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

The Blackhawks got their fast start on Saturday — the fastest in team history — and then watched the Panthers absolutely boat race them for the 59:53 that followed. It was a rough reminder that the Florida Panthers are a well coached, structured team with championship pedigree and a standard by which they play the game. And the Blackhawks are… the Blackhawks.
- It was a rough assignment for Connor Murphy to return from being out for a long time injured, and he showed some rust early in the game. Louis Crevier left the lineup in the middle of the first period after he was boarded and did not return. Interim head coach Anders Sorensen opted to put both Ethan Del Mastro and Nolan Allan in the press box as healthy scratches on Saturday. Mark Lazerus asked Sorensen why he was sitting both of the two younger defensemen and keeping TJ Brodie in the lineup. Laz tweeted the questions and his responses. I’m pretty sure this isn’t going to improve the responses from fans (it shouldn’t).
- After the Blackhawks were completely overwhelmed in the first period on Saturday, Mark Messier had some very pointed comments about Connor Bedard.

- I noted this yesterday after a flurry of trades in about a 12-hour window involving the Canucks, Rangers, Penguins, Stars and Sharks: as of Saturday morning, 28 of the first 64 picks in the 2025 NHL Draft have now been traded (assuming all picks transfer). Dallas had kept their first-round pick in 11 of the 12 previous drafts with Jim Nill as the GM. That speaks volumes about how NHL front offices view the depth of this year’s draft class.
- It’s noteworthy that, among the teams specifically stockpiling picks in the first two rounds of the 2025 NHL Draft: Philadelphia (7), Nashville (5), Blackhawks (4) and, now, San Jose (3).
- Good read from Mark Lazerus of The Athletic about how Frank Nazar is remaining steady thru the ups and downs of a rookie season in the NHL.
Why Frank Nazar is particularly well-suited to handle the ups and downs of a rookie season:
(Plus some quick game notes from Sunrise.)
www.nytimes.com/athletic/610…— Mark Lazerus (@marklazerus.bsky.social) February 1, 2025 at 5:47 PM
- Landon Slaggert scored the only goal of the game for the Blackhawks yesterday. He was also credited with one blocked shot, one hit and a team-high four shots on net. But he only skated 11:02.
- Colton Dach was credited with three hits, one blocked shot and two shots on net yesterday. But he only skated 10:46.
- And here I thought Sorensen was installed as the interim head coach because he was going to play the kids more after having them in Rockford… because Luke Richardson’s style and approach were the problems, right?
Hey how about some Blackhawks prospect highlights?
- Minnesota swept the Border War weekend against Wisconsin, winning 4-1 last night. Oliver Moore had himself a night, scoring once and adding two primary assists.

- John Mustard scored a nice goal in the first period for Providence on Saturday afternoon.

- Denver beat Omaha 11-2 (yes, eleven!) and Aidan Thompson was credited with two assists.
- Jack Pridham extended his personal point streak to six games (four goals, three assists) with an assist for Kitchener.

In this post, we will be diving into the latest news surrounding the Chicago Blackhawks, including Messier Chirps Bedard, the decision to sit the young defensemen, draft trades, prospect highlights, and more.First off, let’s talk about Messier Chirps Bedard. The legendary Mark Messier recently had some high praise for top prospect Connor Bedard, comparing him to himself and saying that Bedard has the potential to be a generational player. This is certainly exciting news for Blackhawks fans, as Bedard could be a game-changer for the team in the future.
Next, we have the decision to sit the young defensemen. The Blackhawks have made the interesting choice to sit some of their younger defensemen in favor of more experienced players. While this may be a bit frustrating for fans who want to see the young talent develop, it could be a smart move in the long run to give them more time to adjust and grow.
In terms of draft trades, the Blackhawks have been active in trying to make some moves to improve their roster. Keep an eye out for any potential trades leading up to the draft, as the team looks to add depth and talent to their lineup.
And finally, let’s highlight some of the top prospects in the Blackhawks’ system. Players like Alex Vlasic, Lukas Reichel, and Evan Barratt are all making waves in the minors and could be key pieces for the team in the future. It’s always exciting to see young players develop and make an impact at the NHL level.

Regardless what happens between now and Thursday’s 3 p.m. ET NBA trade deadline, the Los Angeles Lakers already look like the big winners of trade season.
That doesn’t, however, mean their work is complete.
The arrival of Luka Dončić feels like a gift from the basketball gods—and the latest nod to Lakers’ exceptionalism—both for the cannon-ball-sized splash to L.A.’s talent pool and for what it means for the franchise’s post-LeBron James future. The Lakers have long-term clarity now, and it just so happens to come in the form of a 25-year-old prodigy who’s on track to have a career for the ages.
All of that is objectively great. What’s not so great, however, is the Anthony Davis-sized hole on the interior. And that will need addressing sooner than later.
Fortunately, the Lakers seem on top of things. They are “looking for a big man,” per Yahoo Sports’ Kevin O’Connor (h/t Posting and Toasting) and have New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson on the radar.
He’s not the only one, of course. They’ve had interest in Utah Jazz center Walker Kessler “dating back to the offseason,” per The Athletic’s Jovan Buha, who added they’ve also “long coveted” Indiana Pacers stretch big Myles Turner.
If the Lakers were solely focused on the here and now, it’d be tough to craft a compelling case for Robinson, who’s still working his way back from foot surgery last May, over Kessler and Turner, who are both playing some of the best basketball of their careers.
Yet, despite having 40-year-old LeBron James on the roster, L.A. isn’t laser-locked on the current campaign. The megadeal for Dončić made that abundantly clear. For all of his prodigious talents, he’s an awkward on-court fit with James, since both are primary playmakers who spend the bulk of their time on the ball and don’t do their best work defensively.
The Lakers looked at the bigger picture with the Davis-for-Dončić deal, bringing back a player who can, in the words of general manager Rob Pelinka “lead this franchise for years to come.”
That doesn’t mean L.A. is just punting on this season, but there won’t be the same urgency for instant-competitiveness as there was when this team was following the James-Davis duo. The Lakers can approach the deadline with more than the next few months in mind. That’s why it doesn’t make sense to fork over all the assets needed to nab Kessler, whose availability feels debatable at best, or Turner, who has unrestricted free agency awaiting him after this season.
Without a pressing time crunch, the Lakers can be judicious here and search for potential bargains. That description sure feels like it’ll fit Robinson, a difference-making above-the-rim center when healthy with a de-escalating salary.
Granted, his availability concerns are a real thing. He only eclipsed 60 appearances in one of the past four seasons and made exactly 31 appearances in half of them. He’s only helpful if he’s playing, obviously, and he’s had a hard time playing consistently.
That should be baked into his trade cost, though, and he could be a real value at the proverbial right place. He’s an explosive, powerful lob-finisher who could thrive alongside shot-creators like James and Dončić. Robinson is also an active, intimidating rim protector, which might be even more valuable to have behind James, Dončić and Austin Reaves.
A healthy Robinson would be a clean fit for this roster, both now and moving forward. And while he isn’t healthy at the moment, it sounds like he could be soon.
The Lakers have already pulled off one heist this trade season, and they should see more bargain potential in plucking Robinson out of the clearance section.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been making headlines in the NBA world recently after acquiring superstar point guard Luka Dončić in a blockbuster trade. However, amidst all the excitement surrounding the trade, there are rumors swirling that the Lakers are not done making moves just yet.One player that the Lakers have been rumored to be targeting is New York Knicks’ rising star, Mitchell Robinson. The young center has been making a name for himself in the league with his impressive shot-blocking abilities and athleticism, and many believe he could be a perfect fit alongside Dončić in the Lakers’ lineup.
Robinson’s defensive prowess and ability to protect the rim would provide a much-needed boost to the Lakers’ defense, which has been a weak point for the team in recent seasons. Pairing him with Dončić would also give the Lakers a formidable inside-outside duo that could wreak havoc on opposing teams.
While the rumors are still just speculation at this point, it’s clear that the Lakers are looking to make a splash in the offseason and improve their roster. Keep an eye on the Lakers as they continue to make moves and potentially target Mitchell Robinson to further bolster their championship aspirations. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

Report: Canelo Álvarez, Terence Crawford Agree to Contract for September Boxing Fight | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Omar Vega/Getty Images
Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford have reached a tentative agreement for a September fight, according to The Ring’s Keith Idec.
The two are expected to face off this fall in Las Vegas, with the venue and specific date still up in the air.
Boxing fans have long hoped this matchup would come to fruition. Some of the optimism steadily faded as Canelo selected a series of opponents who could charitably described as lackluster. Since winning a unanimous decision over Gennady Golovkin in September 2022, he has beaten John Ryder, Jermell Charlo, Jaime Munguía and Edgar Berlanga.
But ESPN’s Mike Coppinger first reported on Jan. 18 that negotiations between Álvarez and Crawford’s camps were “in the red zone,” a reference to the 20 yards before the end zone in football. The event is slated for the weekend of Mexican Independence Day to carry on Canelo’s annual tradition of stepping into the ring around the holiday.

No signed contracts yet, but Canelo Alvarez, boxing’s top star, and Terence Crawford are primed to meet on Mexican Independence Day Weekend in September if all is finalized. And as Crawford said all along, it would take place at 168 pounds with no rehydration clause. <a href=”https://t.co/Gw0DoA21uH”>pic.twitter.com/Gw0DoA21uH</a>
Per Idec, Álvarez is likely to fight May 3 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to keep himself sharp, and William Scull is one potential candidate for that slot. Scull is unbeaten with nine knockouts in 23 professional fights, most recently earning a unanimous decision over Vladimir Shishkin in October.
It’s unclear whether Crawford would also schedule a tune-up ahead of a megafight with Canelo, though that seems a strong possibility.
The 37-year-old fought just once in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024, so a yearlong layoff between his August win over Israil Madrimov and a date with Álvarez wouldn’t be uncommon. For a headliner of this magnitude, he may prefer to avoid having any ring rust.
BREAKING NEWS: Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford have reportedly agreed to a contract for a highly-anticipated boxing fight set to take place in September. This clash between two of the sport’s biggest stars is sure to be an epic showdown that fans won’t want to miss.Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting matchup, including news, scores, highlights, stats, and rumors leading up to the fight. US President Donald Trump waging a tariff war on Canada, Mexico and China sent a chill into global markets as major European and Asian indices including India’s headline indices reeled under selling pressure on Monday. Bank’s energy and FMCG stocks fell most even as the IT sector tried to salvage some pride. Meanwhile, Saturday’s budget announcements or rather lack of them for capex intensive sectors, soured the D-Street sentiments as well. While the 30-stock S&P BSE Sensex finished flat at 77,186.74, declining by 319.22 points or 0.41%, the broader Nifty fell by 31.75 points or 0.52% to close at 23,361.05.Commenting on the day’s action, Dr. Praveen Dwarakanath, Vice President of Hedged.in highlighted Nifty exhibiting strength taking support from the middle of the Bollinger band after a sudden fall during the day. “The momentum indicators on the hourly chart, after a drop of below 50 levels, show a rise, also indicating positive sentiments in the index. The index formed a candle with a bullish closing, indicating the momentum to continue towards the next resistance at 23,800 levels. Options writer’s data for the weekly expiry showed increased writing of puts at the 23,300 and below levels and increased writing of calls at the 23,500 and above levels, indicating a range bound index,” Dwarakanath.
Stock Market Highlights: Nifty forms a hammer candle on daily scale. How to trade on Tuesday? The Nifty index showed resilience on Monday as it formed a hammer candle on the daily scale, indicating a potential reversal in the near future. This bullish candlestick pattern suggests that the market may have found a support level and could potentially move higher in the upcoming sessions.
Traders can look for buying opportunities on Tuesday, keeping a stop loss below the low of the hammer candle. If the Nifty index breaks above the high of the hammer candle, it could signal a bullish trend continuation. On the other hand, if the index fails to sustain above the high of the hammer candle, traders should be cautious and consider booking profits or tightening stop-loss levels.
Overall, the market sentiment remains positive, and traders should look for opportunities to go long on quality stocks with strong fundamentals. It is essential to stay updated with the latest news and market developments to make informed trading decisions. Happy trading!

Mitchell Leff/Getty Images
Guerschon Yabusele is garnering trade interest in his second stint in the NBA.
The Philadelphia Inquirer‘s Keith Pompey named Yabusele as the Philadelphia 76ers’ “most enticing trade target for opposing teams” ahead of the Feb. 6 deadline.
Pompey named the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets as teams interested in acquiring the former 2016 first-round pick.
Yabusele began his NBA career by playing two seasons with the Boston Celtics before the team waived him in the summer of 2019.
He spent several years playing professionally in China, France and Spain before the Sixers brought Yabusele back to the NBA on a one-year veteran minimum contract.
Having played his way into a starting role while averaging 10.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, Yabusele has likely out-earned his $2 million salary this season.
The Sixers likely aren’t in a position to give him a raise next season after committing to pay more than $135 million to Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey in 2025-26.
Deciding whether to take advantage of the jump in Yabusele’s value to trade him this winter could hinge on if the Sixers see themselves as a postseason contender.
Heading into Sunday with a 19-28 record, the Sixers one game back from the Chicago Bulls for the last play-in spot in the Eastern Conference.
If the Sixers decide to push for the play-in round, keeping Yabusele, who played well during a recent four-game winning streak that lifted Philadelphia closer to the playoff picture, could be key to the team’s postseason hopes.
If Philadelphia decides to sell at the deadline, however, the team could be better served by taking advantage of Yabusele’s value to a win-now team by picking up draft assets.
SNY’s Ian Begley previously reported that the Knicks had checked in with the Sixers regarding Yabusele, and that his .400 shooting on 3.9 attempted 3-pointers per game could “benefit a Knick team that wants to keep the floor spread on offense.”
The Nuggets have been in need of frontcourt depth throughout the 2024-25 season. Denver’s bench has contributed 10.2 points per game, good for 27th in the NBA, through 49 games this season. Adding Yabusele as a depth option behind Nikola Jokić could help this team gear up for a playoff run.
The Celtics added to their frontcourt depth ahead of the 2024 trade deadline by adding Xavier Tillman Sr., but Tillman’s playing time has dropped to an average of just seven minutes through 26 games so far this season. Replacing him with Yabusele could be a bench upgrade for the defending champions.
The Philadelphia 76ers have been a hot topic of discussion in recent days as rumors swirl around potential trades involving forward Guerschon Yabusele. Several teams, including the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, and Denver Nuggets, are reportedly interested in acquiring the talented young player.Yabusele, a former first-round draft pick, has shown flashes of potential during his time with the 76ers, but has struggled to find consistent playing time on a deep roster. With the trade deadline approaching, Philadelphia may be looking to move Yabusele in exchange for assets that can help bolster their playoff push.
The Knicks, Celtics, and Nuggets are all in need of frontcourt depth and could benefit from adding a player like Yabusele to their roster. While no trade has been finalized yet, discussions are said to be ongoing and a deal could materialize in the coming days.
Stay tuned for more updates on the 76ers trade rumors involving Guerschon Yabusele, as news, scores, highlights, stats, and rumors continue to develop.
