Former Olympic javelin champion Neeraj Chopra on Sunday announced his wedding to Himani Mor. Neeraj shared the news with his fans on social media with several pictures from the private event. Neeraj and Himani’s wedding took place in Himachal in the presence of 40-50 close guests. “Grateful for every blessing that brought us to this moment together. Bound by love, happily ever after,” Neeraj captioned a post,” Neeraj’s announcement post read. As the pair embarks on a new chapter of life, the two-time Olympic medallist also asked fans for support and blessings.
Who is Himani Mor?
Neeraj’s wife Himani, 25, is a tennis player from Sonipat who went to Little Angels School.
Mor is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Sports Management (Major) at the Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire.
She also studied in Delhi’s Miranda House where she completed her under-graduate degree in Political Science and Physical Education. She has a brother, Himanshu, who is also a tennis player.
She participated at the 2017 World University Games in Taipei after competing at the national level for Delhi University. Her school website says she won a gold medal in the World Junior Tennis Championship held in Malaysia in 2016. “Yes, the marriage took place in India two days back. I can’t tell the place where it took place,” Bhim told from his village at Khandra near Panipat in Haryana.
“The girl is from Sonipat and she is studying in the US. They have left the country for honeymoon and I am not aware of the places where they are going. We wanted to keep it like that,” said Neeraj’s paternal uncle Bhim Chopra, who stays with the Olympic double medallist at Khandra, when asked about the surprise development.
According to the All India Tennis Association (AITA) website, Himani’s career best national ranking was 42 in singles and 27 in doubles in 2018. She started playing in 2018 only in AITA events. Amherst College in Massachusetts also lists her as an assistant coach of women’s tennis as most major students can do some other job, along with studying.

I am excited to see how big we can make this,” Chopra stated in a release by JSW Sports Media.
Chopra aims to establish the event as an annual fixture in the global athletics calendar, with plans to include additional track and field disciplines in the future.

Neeraj then sought permission from his family, and once he received the go-ahead, he decided to marry Himani.
“Both Neeraj and Himani are athletes. They knew each other. They had met each other in the US. Neeraj knew best who he wanted to spend his life with. He then took permission from the family, and once that was all sorted, he decided to get married to Himani,” Surendra Chopra told Aaj Tak.
“It is a love plus arranged marriage. Neeraj and Himani took permission from their parents, and then they went ahead with it,” he added.
Neeraj Chopra’s uncle also stated that he had organised the three-day wedding celebrations from January 14 to 16 in Himachal Pradesh. Even the ‘pandit’ who officiated the wedding was unaware of Neeraj Chopra’s identity.
‘Against dowry’
Neeraj Chopra, who won a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, did not accept any dowry for the marriage. Instead, his family took a token amount of INR 1 as ‘shagun’.
“We have always been against the practice of dowry. Our family doesn’t believe in the concept of dowry. We just took one rupee as ‘shagun’,” Neeraj Chopra’s uncle said.
Before the wedding, Himani also visited Neeraj Chopra’s village and stayed there for 14 hours as a part of pre-marriage rituals.
“Neeraj has competitions lined up for the next two years. So if he didn’t get married now, it would have been postponed for 2 years. There were reasons for them to get married now. It wasn’t a big function, it was a family function. Only 65-70 people were invited, only people from both the families were there,” said Surendra Chopra.
“It was a destination wedding in Himachal Pradesh. We spent three days in the mountains. We had a lot of fun. Neeraj is a normal person. It was good-quality family time,” he added.

She also completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Sports and Fitness Administration/Management at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire, United States, and a Master of Science from the Isenberg School of Management.
A graduate assistant at Amherst College in Massachusetts, United States, Himani Mor is also the team manager of the women’s tennis team. The role involves coaching, venue management, recruiting, networking, training, sports administration, and strategic planning, according to her LinkedIn page. She also worked as a Business Development Executive between June and November 2022.
