  • Pep Guardiola offers honest verdict on “important” Matheus Nunes at right-back for Manchester City

Pep Guardiola offers honest verdict on “important” Matheus Nunes at right-back for Manchester City

Pep Guardiola offers honest verdict on “important” Matheus Nunes at right-back for Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has openly discussed the qualities that Matheus Nunes brings to his side in the right-back role.

The Portugal international has been entrusted by his Etihad Stadium head coach on numerous occasions already this season, and particularly in high-profile, crunch contests for the reigning Premier League champions.

Kyle Walker’s exit on loan to AC Milan for the remainder of the season, in a deal that includes an option to buy, will only increase those opportunities for Nunes, who appears to be in a direct confrontation with Rico Lewis for the role.

And while his stint at right-back got off to a hugely difficult start in a 1-2 defeat to Manchester United, and a game in which Nunes gave away a late penalty as part of the visitors’ turnaround at the Etihad Stadium, he has continued to secure high praise from his manager.

Speaking to television broadcasters prior to Manchester City’s eventual 4-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League this week, Pep Guardiola insisted that Matheus Nunes brings unique traits to his side when operating from right-back.

“Getting better every game,” Guardiola responded when asked for his thoughts on Nunes’ showings in an unnatural role for the Portugal international.

He continued, “He has to adapt, but his physical condition, his pace is important against teams that have this pace.

“He’s a midfield player so with the ball he has the ability to play, so full confidence for how he performs lately.”

Manchester City will return to Premier League action this weekend and will be eager to bounce immediately back to winning ways following disappointment on the continent in midweek, as Chelsea visit the Etihad Stadium.

That contest then precedes an all-or-nothing meeting with Club Brugge back in UEFA Champions League action, as Club Brugge visit the north-west of England knowing that City need a win to book themselves a play-off place for the last-16 of the competition.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has offered his honest verdict on the performance of midfielder Matheus Nunes, who was deployed at right-back in a recent match.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola praised Nunes for his versatility and willingness to adapt to a new position. He described the Brazilian as “important” for the team and highlighted his ability to contribute both defensively and offensively.

Guardiola acknowledged that playing Nunes out of position was a tactical decision based on the team’s needs, and he was pleased with the player’s performance in an unfamiliar role.

Despite the positive assessment, Guardiola also emphasized that Nunes is still developing as a player and will continue to improve with more game time and experience.

Overall, Guardiola’s comments reflect his confidence in Nunes’ abilities and his belief that the young midfielder has a bright future ahead of him at Manchester City.

  • Randy Moss’ Honest Nickname for a Patriots Teammate Was “Unbelievably Embarrassing”

Former Patriot Rich Ohrnberger appeared on Julian Edelman’s Games With Names podcast, where he shared the embarrassing—and hilarious—nickname Randy Moss gave him when the two played together: “Coach.”

Ohrnberger was drafted by the New England Patriots in 2009, where he served as a backup offensive lineman, while Moss played for the Patriots from 2007 until 2010. Ohrnberger recalls the two not talking much after he joined the team, which is why he was shocked when Moss gave him a nickname.

Moss started calling Ohrnberger “coach,” no matter where they were.

“I’m telling people from back home like, ‘Randy Moss gave me a nickname, he really likes me,’” Ohrnberger says.

As it turns out, Moss didn’t see it as a nickname. He really thought Ohrnberger was part of the coaching staff. But, in a team meeting, Moss’s thought was quickly put to bed.

Ohrnberger recalls Bill Belichick having all of the Patriot’s rookies introduce themselves to the squad, which is when Moss finally discovered Ohrnberger was a player.

“He was like, ‘You a player? Ah, hell no Bill, did we waste a draft pick?’” Ohrnberger recalled, sharing what Moss said.

Moss may have also called Ohrnberger grey-haired, implying that he might break a hip on the field. In that moment, Ohrnberger realized “Coach” was never a nickname.

But, as Ohrnberger shared in a recent tweet, he’s never met a more honest person than Randy Moss.

Former NFL wide receiver Randy Moss recently revealed in an interview that he had given a rather embarrassing nickname to one of his New England Patriots teammates during his time with the team.

In the interview, Moss admitted that he had dubbed his teammate “Butterfingers” due to his tendency to drop passes during practice. While Moss did not reveal the identity of the player, he did acknowledge that the nickname was not meant to be malicious, but rather a lighthearted jab at his teammate’s struggles on the field.

Moss went on to say that he regretted giving his teammate such a nickname, as it could have been seen as disrespectful or hurtful. He emphasized that he had a great deal of respect for all of his teammates and that he only wanted to push them to be the best players they could be.

Despite the embarrassing nature of the nickname, Moss’ honesty and humility in admitting his mistake are commendable. It serves as a reminder that even professional athletes are not immune to making errors in judgment, and that it is important to treat others with kindness and respect, both on and off the field.

Cardio. The dreaded word that sends shivers down the spines of many. But do we really have to do it? In this post, I’m going to ask some honest questions about cardio, illustrated with some humorous anecdotes and real talk.

    1. Do I have to wake up at the crack of dawn to go for a run? Can’t I just hit the snooze button and call it a day?

    2. Why does running feel like torture, while sitting on the couch binge-watching Netflix feels like heaven?

    3. Will I ever reach a point where I actually enjoy cardio, or is that just a myth perpetuated by fitness gurus?

    4. Why does the idea of doing burpees make me want to cry, while the idea of eating a whole pizza sounds like a dream come true?

    5. Is it possible to get the same benefits from cardio by just dancing around my living room to Beyoncé songs?

    6. Why does the thought of going to the gym and hopping on the treadmill make me want to throw up, while the thought of a post-workout smoothie sounds delicious?

    7. Can I just pretend that walking to the fridge and back counts as my daily cardio?

    8. Will I ever be able to run a marathon without collapsing in a heap halfway through?

    9. Why does the idea of doing sprints make me want to run in the opposite direction, while the idea of a leisurely stroll in the park sounds lovely?

    10. Can I just blame my aversion to cardio on my genetics, or do I actually have to put in the work to see results?

So, do we really have to do cardio? The answer may be different for everyone, but one thing’s for sure – it’s a necessary evil if we want to stay healthy and fit. So lace up those running shoes, put on some upbeat music, and let’s tackle cardio together, one reluctant step at a time.

You want me to roller skate and play tennis five times a week? I barely have the time. Or the energy!

You know that cardio exercise is good for your health. But it can be hard to work up the motivation to do it.

If you’re in the camp of folks who are dragging their feet to start working out again, this comic is for you.

Dr. Jayne Morgan, a cardiologist and the vice president of medical affairs at Hello Heart, a cardiovascular health tracking app, answers honest questions about the subject, and explains how to incorporate more heart-pumping movement into your everyday life.

This comic was illustrated by Life Kit editor Malaka Gharib.

How much cardio do I really need to do for it to be beneficial to my health?
Adults should get 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise a week (along with strength training twice a week), according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
You’re not going to do it all at the same time! Dr. Jayne Morgan, a cardiologist, recommends breaking it up into 30-minute sessions, five times a week.

I don’t have time for that!
Lots of activities can be considered cardio, says Dr. Morgan.
“Basically, anything that gets your heart pumping and into that target heart rate zone.”

You want me to roller skate and play tennis five times a week? I barely have the time. Or the energy!
Dr. Morgan suggests picking up the pace on other activities that you’re already doing.

Remind me, why am I doing this again?

“Our hearts are made of a kind of muscle that's similar to what's in our legs and arms. So when you are getting exercise, you're actually exercising your heart as well.”

It’s super good for your health. It … Decreases long-term heart disease. Keeps your weight down. Lowers your blood pressure. Helps manage diabetes. Improves sleep quality.

Can I break the 30-minute sessions into smaller chunks?
You can try an “exercise snack,” says Dr. Morgan -- short bursts of intermittent exercise.
These bursts of exercise, done on a regular basis, can increase your metabolism and help you live longer, says Dr. Morgan.

How do I know if my heart rate is where it should be?

To calculate your maximum heart rate, subtract your age from 220. Then aim to be in that 50-85% range of that number while doing cardio.

To find out what your heart rate is, use your smartwatch or your fitness tracker to measure your heart rate -- or do it the old-fashioned way.
Place two fingers against the side of your neck, next to your windpipe, until you feel your artery pulsating. Set a timer for 60 seconds and count the number of beats.

I’m sorry, but I still can’t picture myself working out even like, once a week.

That’s OK -- try walking! Any pace of walking you do provides some cardiovascular benefit and decreases your risk of stroke, says Dr. Morgan.

  • Thunder forward Jalen Williams’ honest admission to Mavericks’ stifling defense

Jalen Williams and the Oklahoma City Thunder overcame a 20-point deficit in a 106-98 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Head coach Mark Daigneault delivered his honest take on the loss before Williams talked about facing the Mavericks’ defense without All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on the floor.

Gilgeous-Alexander was ruled out during pregame due to a sore wrist, which shifted most of the defense onto Williams. After the loss, he spoke about what that was like Friday night.

“Tonight was probably the heaviest that it’s been… different coverages tonight, which was good,” Williams said. “It allowed me to read the game and figure the game out. So, I’m definitely not going to take those opportunities for granted.”

Williams struggled to find his offensive rhythm against the Mavs, scoring four points in the first half without converting a single field goal. Jalen went 1-for-6 from the floor and 2-for-6 from the free-throw line before finishing with 19 points, six assists, and five rebounds in Friday’s loss.

“Just trying to find my teammates. A lot of it was, I wouldn’t say new, just more of it,” Williams added. “Obviously, not having Shai out there, they kind of figured they were going to throw a lot of stuff like that out there. Just trying to learn and understand the coverages where I need to throw the ball and how I can still kind of pick my spots and be aggressive.”

Thunder’s Jalen Williams looked at the experience as a learning moment for the third-year forward. In a rare absence for Gilgeous-Alexander, who missed only seven games last season, it was a big spot for Jalen, facing off against the team that eliminated the Thunder 4-2 in the Western Conference semifinals in last year’s playoffs.

Mark Daigneault’s honest take on Thunder’s loss vs Mavericks

    Jerome Miron-Imagn Images

Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault was pleased by his team’s second-half performance. Despite it coming in a losing effort, Daigneault had plenty of positive takeaways.

“Obviously, [they] did a really good job out of halftime,” Daigneault said. “After what was a rough second quarter, or end of the second quarter, I thought we played a pretty good game outside of that six-minute stretch where they really opened the game up. But we came out of halftime, made that a game, and got it within striking distance very quickly. And able to take a one-point game into the fourth, which, with where we were at halftime, is all you can ask for.”

The Thunder will host the Nets on Sunday.

Thunder forward Jalen Williams recently opened up about the struggles he faced against the Mavericks’ stifling defense in a post-game interview. Williams admitted that he was caught off guard by the level of intensity and physicality the Mavericks brought to the court, making it difficult for him to find his rhythm and make an impact on the game.

“I have to give credit to the Mavericks’ defense, they really made it tough for me out there,” Williams said. “I wasn’t expecting them to be so aggressive and disruptive, and it definitely threw me off my game. I need to do a better job of adjusting and finding ways to be effective against that kind of pressure.”

Despite the tough outing, Williams remains optimistic and motivated to improve and bounce back stronger in the next game. “I know I have to work harder and be more prepared for teams like the Mavericks who play tough defense,” Williams said. “I’m going to learn from this experience and come back better next time.”

Williams’ honesty and humility in acknowledging his struggles against the Mavericks’ defense are a testament to his growth mindset and determination to continue developing as a player. Fans can expect to see him put in the work and make the necessary adjustments to overcome challenges like this in the future.
