  • After Lanterns Star Aaron Pierre Discussed His Early Introduction To John Stewart, I’m Getting Even More Hopeful About His Take On Green Lantern

After Lanterns Star Aaron Pierre Discussed His Early Introduction To John Stewart, I’m Getting Even More Hopeful About His Take On Green Lantern

Aaron Pierre has a pretty good 2024 between leading the action thriller Rebel Ridge, which can be streamed with a Netflix subscription, and voicing the title character of Mufasa: The Lion King, which is now playing in theaters. As the cherry on top of the proverbial sundae, though, he was also cast to play John Stewart in Lanterns, the Green Lantern-focused series set in the new DC Universe franchise. I’m already intrigued about what Lanterns has in store, but after hearing about Pierre’s early introduction to Stewart, I’m even more hopeful about his take on the character in the upcoming DC TV show.

After admitting in an interview with EW that he hasn’t seen Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern movie, which failed to impress critically or commercially when it was released in 2011, Pierre stated that he was exposed to John Stewart early on from one of the best animated TV shows of all time. In his words:

I think Justice League Unlimited might have been one of my first introductions to John Stewart.

He’s definitely not alone in having learned about John Stewart from Justice League Unlimited or its Justice League predecessor, voiced by Phil LaMarr in both. Although Stewart has been part of DC Comics lore since he was introduced in the pages of Green Lantern #87 in the early 1970s, it was the Justice League animated series, which premiered in 2001, that he became a mainstream DC character. Although Hal Jordan is traditionally depicted as the Green Lantern who helps form the Justice League, the DC Animated Universe went with Stewart instead. This in turn led to John Stewart’s profile increasing in the comics.

The John Stewart Green Lantern in Justice League Unlimited

So not only were Justice League and Justice League Unlimited great ways for viewers to learn about John Stewart, for a lot of DC fans, he is their main Green Lantern. So it’s about time that this emerald ring-slinger finally makes his live-action debit, although there had been plans for Wayne T. Carr to play the character in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. If Aaron Pierre’s take on Stewart pulls from Phil LaMarr’s version in any significant way, then that will give me one more thing to appreciate from Lanterns.

Pierre will star in Lanterns opposite Kyle Chandler, who’s playing Hal Jordan, the veteran Green Lantern showing rookie John Stewart the ropes. The two protectors of Sector 2814 will be investigating a murder in the American heartland, and this mystery will end up factoring into the main DC Universe storyline. Pierre and Chandler’s Lanterns cast-mates include Kelly McDonald, Garrett Dillahunt and Poorna Jagannathan. Ozark’s Chris Mundy is serving as showrunner and writing alongside Watchmen’s Damon Lindelof and longtime DC Comics writer Tom King, who’s especially pleased with the Hal and John castings.

Lanterns will begin filming in early 2025 and is expected to premiere on HBO around the same time as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is released in theaters. If you’re looking to enjoy DC Universe-related content now, use your Max subscription to stream Creature Commandos.

After Lanterns Star Aaron Pierre Discussed His Early Introduction To John Stewart, I’m Getting Even More Hopeful About His Take On Green Lantern

Aaron Pierre, known for his role in the hit TV series “Krypton,” recently opened up about his early introduction to the character of John Stewart, also known as Green Lantern. In a recent interview, Pierre shared how he first discovered the character through the Justice League animated series and how he was instantly drawn to the character’s complexity and depth.

As a long-time fan of the Green Lantern comics, I have been eagerly anticipating Pierre’s take on the character. His passion for the role and his understanding of the character’s history and significance in the DC Universe has only increased my excitement for his portrayal.

With Pierre’s dedication to bringing John Stewart to life in a way that honors the character’s legacy while also bringing something fresh and new to the table, I have no doubt that he will do justice to one of DC’s most iconic superheroes.

I can’t wait to see Aaron Pierre shine as Green Lantern on the big screen and bring this beloved character to a whole new generation of fans. Here’s to hoping for an epic and unforgettable portrayal of John Stewart in the upcoming Lanterns movie.

  • Kyle Shanahan hopeful struggling former 3rd-round pick can bounce back

Kyle Shanahan hopeful struggling former 3rd-round pick can bounce back

Despite recent struggles from Jake Moody, the San Francisco 49ers still believe they have the right guy at kicker.

Moody is now 23-of-30 on field goal tries this season and missed again from 41 yards out in the 49ers’ 29-17 loss at the Miami Dolphins last Sunday.

Since returning from a right high-ankle sprain that he sustained in Week 5 trying to make a tackle on a kickoff return against the Arizona Cardinals, Moody has missed six field goal attempts.

That included a trio of missed field goals of 49, 50 and 44 yards at Tampa Bay in Week 10 and a pair of missed field goals in a snow storm at Buffalo from 45 and 55 yards in Week 13.

Though he misfired three times, Moody did connect on the game-winning, 44-yard field goal as time expired in the 49ers’ 23-20 win over the Bucs.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked on Thursday if recent inconsistencies raise any questions about Moody’s long-term future with the franchise.

“I still feel the same about him, that I believe he is going to be our guy. Everyone has got to perform and do things like that and I think he has had a tough year. I think before his high-ankle sprain, I think he was like, missed one. I think he was 12 of 13 before that.

“So I thought he was doing really well and then had a high-ankle sprain to his kicking foot. Since he’s come back, he hasn’t been as consistent, obviously. But I think a lot of that probably has to do with that, just common-sense wise. And hopefully he can get to this offseason, heal up and find a stroke again and play at a high level that I think he will, because he’s real talented,” Shanahan said.

Moody was actually one make better than Shanahan credited him for prior to suffering the high-ankle sprain against the Arizona Cardinals. The 6-foot-1, 210 pound kicker made 13 of his first 14 field goal tries on the season, including every kick from inside 50 yards.

Shanahan said that Moody has the mental makeup to bounce back from this recent tough stretch.

“I think he’s made of the right stuff just from a mental standpoint and everything and I think he has all the tools to be a great kicker in the this league. He’s still working to find that though,” Shanahan said.

Shanahan touched on how patience with kickers can be vital. To illustrate his point, Shanahan referred back to his time in Washington and the franchise’s decision to cut Graham Gano.

After being cut by Washington, Gano morphed into one of the league’s trustiest and highest-paid kickers.

“That’s what’s tough, I remember we were in Washington and we had a young kicker who missed a number of kicks, but I didn’t have much experience with kicking then,” Shanahan recalled.

“I remember I kept telling the head coach that he’s cost us two games, when are we going to move on from this guy? And he kept telling me how talented he was, ‘You’ve got to be patient.’ But then he lost us a third game and then the head coach had to make a move, but two years later that guy was the highest paid kicker in the league and going to Pro Bowls. So he was right, we had to be patient. But how long can you do it?”

The 49ers are hopeful their patience will be rewarded with Moody.

“I think that’s just what’s tough with that position. There are no backups and stuff like that, so that’s what the challenge is. But I believe we’ve got the right guy and I think that eventually, I think he has shown that at times, thought he showed that at times his rookie year. I thought he showed that big time being 12 out of 13 to start this year. And I think he’ll show us all that in the future,” Shanahan said.

Moody was selected by the 49ers with the No. 99 overall pick in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft. The Michigan alum connected on 21-of-25 field goal tries during the 2023 regular season and 6-of-8 field goal kicks in the 2023 postseason with the 49ers.

Kyle Shanahan, head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, is hopeful that struggling former 3rd-round pick Dante Pettis can bounce back and reach his full potential. Pettis, who has shown flashes of brilliance but has struggled to consistently perform at a high level, has been working hard in training camp to improve his game.

Shanahan believes that Pettis has the talent and potential to be a key contributor to the 49ers offense, and is optimistic that he can turn things around this season. With a renewed focus and determination, Pettis is looking to make the most of his opportunities and prove his worth to the team.

As the regular season approaches, all eyes will be on Pettis as he looks to silence his critics and show that he is capable of being a difference-maker on the field. With Shanahan’s support and guidance, Pettis has the tools to succeed and make a significant impact for the 49ers this season.

  • Austin Ekeler injury update provides hopeful boost for Commanders’ playoff tilt

Austin Ekeler injury update provides hopeful boost for Commanders’ playoff tilt

Not many expected Austin Ekeler to see the field again in 2024 after the serious concussion he sustained against the Dallas Cowboys. Head coach Dan Quinn’s recent update indicated that all hope is not lost just yet.

Ekeler’s been an outstanding addition to the Washington Commanders this season. The veteran running back’s ability as a pass-catcher out of the backfield, kick return prowess, and leadership within the locker room were significant assets to call upon. Losing him to a vicious hit was a bitter blow.

The former undrafted free agent out of Western Colorado was brutally honest about his symptoms. Ekeler suffered memory loss and was still having headaches almost a week after the collision. The Commanders rightfully placed him on injured reserve, avoiding any unnecessary confusion regarding his short-term status.

Washington is giving Ekeler the time he needs to fully recover. He’s eligible to come off injured reserve next week, but Quinn and his staff will approach the topic with extreme caution. If there are any lingering doubts about what another big hit could do to the player, they’ll keep him out of the firing line.

Commanders head coach Dan Quinn provided hope for Austin Ekeler

Quinn seemed optimistic about Ekeler’s status. He’s still around the team and is working out without being involved in official team practices. If the same trend continues, a situation could emerge where the player can offer assistance when the postseason arrives.

“Absolutely possible. Yeah. So, Austin is definitely trending in the right way. Workouts are going great. He’s in meetings; he’s doing all the stuff with us. So yeah, we’re certainly optimistic, and we’ll just play the whole thing out. But like you said, the earliest that he would begin is next week. But, it’s been encouraging to see the progress that he’s made.”

Dan Quinn via USA Today Sports

The Commanders are focused on securing their place in the knockout stages before anything else. They can do so by beating the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday Night Football this weekend, which would also allow them an extra sense of flexibility with Ekeler’s status along the way.

If the Commanders win this weekend, the chances of some established starters being rested for their regular-season finale at the Dallas Cowboys are high. Washington might open Ekeler’s 21-day practice window, but there would be no need to put him in harm’s way in Week 18.

That gives Ekeler another fortnight to rest and get himself ready for the wildcard round, potentially versus the Philadelphia Eagles on the road. The savvy veteran is experienced enough to know how to prepare his body despite missing a few games. At the same time, coming in rusty for such a high-stakes contest could complicate matters.

It’s a fluid situation. The Commanders have a process Ekeler must get through before he can participate again. He also needs to pass the NFL’s concussion protocols before returning to the gridiron in some capacity.

Having Ekeler suiting up for Washington’s playoff return would be a bonus. He’s a dependable outlet for rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. That will be more essential than ever when the margins for error get finer in the postseason.

Whether this scenario comes to fruition or not has yet to be determined. But there is more hope after Quinn’s latest revelations.

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that Austin Ekeler attended Colorado State.

    More Commanders news and analysis

The Washington Commanders received some much-needed good news on the injury front as running back Austin Ekeler provided a hopeful update on his status for their upcoming playoff game.

Ekeler, who suffered a knee injury in the Commanders’ wild-card win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, took to social media to share a video of himself working out and rehabbing with the caption: “Making progress every day. Can’t wait to get back on the field with my brothers.”

The update from Ekeler is a promising sign for the Commanders, who rely heavily on his playmaking ability both as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. His potential return would provide a significant boost to the team’s offense as they prepare to face off against the top-seeded Green Bay Packers in the divisional round.

While Ekeler’s status for the game is still uncertain, his positive attitude and dedication to his recovery are encouraging signs for Commanders fans hoping for a deep playoff run. Stay tuned for further updates on Ekeler’s status as the game approaches. #Commanders #Playoffs #AustinEkeler #InjuryUpdate

Former presidential hopeful Marianne Williamson announces bid for DNC chair, looks to ‘reinvent the party’

Former presidential hopeful Marianne Williamson announced a bid to become the next Democratic National Committee (DNC) chair.

In a letter addressed to DNC members posted to her Transform with Marianne Williamson site, she pledged that as chair she would seek to “reinvent the party.”

She also warned that President-elect Trump’s political accomplishments should not be underestimated.

“President Trump has ushered in an age of political theatre – a collective adrenaline rush that has enabled him to not only move masses of people into his camp but also masses of people away from ours. It does not serve us to underestimate the historic nature of what he has achieved,” Williamson said.

“In fact, it’s important that we recognize the psychological and emotional dimensions of Trump’s appeal. We need to understand it to create the energy to counter it. MAGA is a distinctly 21st century political movement, and it will not be defeated by a 20th century tool kit. Data analysis, fundraising, field organizing, and beefed-up technology – while all are important – will not be enough to prepare the way for Democratic victory in 2024 and beyond,” she asserted.

“We will create a surge of patriotic fervor, and a connectedness of the American heart to the great historical legacy of this country. Our ultimate success will be creating in people’s minds a sense that in order to further that legacy, your smartest move is to vote for Democrats,” she contended.

Williamson, an author who says she has “worked as a spiritual/political activist” over the course of her career, pursued the Democratic presidential nomination during the last two presidential election cycles but failed to gain traction in both cases.

In early 2020 she dropped out before the first nominating contest, the Iowa caucus, took place. In 2024, she suspended her campaign in February but unsuspended it later that same month.

Other figures have also announced bids for the DNC chair role, including former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, who recently served as Social Security Administration commissioner.

Former presidential hopeful Marianne Williamson has announced her bid for the chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), stating that she is looking to “reinvent the party” and bring about much-needed change.

Williamson, a spiritual teacher and author, gained national attention during her presidential campaign in 2020 with her focus on love and unity. Now, she is setting her sights on leading the DNC and bringing her message of compassion and progressive values to the forefront of the party.

In a statement announcing her candidacy, Williamson said, “The Democratic Party is in need of a transformation. We need to move beyond the politics of division and fear, and instead embrace a politics of love and unity. I believe that by reinventing the party and focusing on our shared values, we can create a brighter future for all Americans.”

Williamson’s bid for DNC chair has already garnered attention and support from progressives and grassroots activists who are looking for a fresh perspective and a more inclusive party.

As she embarks on this new chapter in her political career, Williamson is sure to bring her unique blend of spirituality and activism to the DNC, shaking up the status quo and pushing for a more compassionate and progressive agenda. Only time will tell if her vision for the party will resonate with enough voters to secure her the leadership role she seeks.
