“We Can Finally Say” Reba McEntire Will Return as Host of the 2025 ACM Awards

Reba McEntire may not be returning for season 27 of The Voice, but that doesn’t mean fans won’t see her on their screens. And the Academy of Country Music officially announced Wednesday (Jan. 1) that Reba will return to host this year’s historic 60th awards ceremony.

During last year’s ACM Awards, Reba McEntire promised she’d be back next year to host. Now, the Academy of Country Music has made that official. “We can finally say ‘Reba will be back THIS YEAR to host the 60th ACM Awards!’” read a post on the Academy’s official Instagram page.

The 60th ACM Awards ceremony will return to the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas on May 8, 2025. This marks the Lone Star State’s third consecutive year to host the awards show.

This year also marks Reba’s 18th time to host or co-host the ceremony—more than any other artist in ACM history. The “Fancy” hitmaker first co-hosted the show in 1986 with John Schneider and the late Mac Davis.

In fact, Reba is gaining ground on Bob Hope as the “host with the most” for any major awards show. Hope hosted or co-hosted the Oscars 19 times between 1940 and 1978.

“After her triumphant return this year for the 59th show, there is clearly no one better suited to helm this milestone show!” ACM CEO Damon Whiteside previously said in a statement.

Instagram users were eager to see Reba return to the Ford Center stage. “I can’t wait to see her host again,” one fan wrote.

Under Reba McEntire’s tutelage, Asher HaVon became the first openly LGBTQ+ winner of The Voice. And the season 25 champ is still singing the seven-time Top Female Vocalist’s praises nearly a year later.

HaVon, 32, dropped his latest single, “Thank You,” on Thanksgiving Day.

“The entire song was based on our relationship, of course being from Selma, not experiencing a big city and then going to the big city and meeting Reba,” he told the Selma Times-Journal.

He continued, “She really cultivated me like a mother with a son and just really walked me through some great trials and really bringing me out on the other side as a mentor, as a coach and as a mother.”

Hanukkah is an eightday festival celebrated by Jewish people that commemorates the rededication of the second temple of Jerusalem by the lighting of candles on each day of the festival, according to the Britannica website. The Chabad of San Marcos and Texas State University hosted a Menorah lighting ceremony on Dec. 29 on the Hays County Historic Courthouse grounds that involved jewish hymns, candle lighting and traditional foods.

Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra said, al- though he is not Jewish, it is important to take part in religious activities across the county in order to strengthen community bonds.

“If you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together. So I thank you for the constant reminder that we are all one people,” Becerra said. “We are all one Hays County, and we are all most grateful for still having beating hearts.”

San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson said she was excited to take part in a longstanding tradition among her community members.

“Today as the Hannukah candles are lit, I look forward to the shared sense of community and universal enlightenment among those here tonight and across the world,” Hughson said.

Chabad of San Marcos Rabbi Ari Weingarten told the story of Hannukah, which took place 2,100 years ago when the Jewish people living in Jerusalem were stripped of their religious freedom by Syrian Greek rule.

“There was a small group known as the Maccabees… that decided to fight the great army of the world at the time, the Syrian Greeks. They band together — a small group [that was] outnumbered — but they were determined that ‘we want our liberty.’ And they pushed back the Syrian Greek army out of Jerusalem and liberated the temple, the most sacred space of the Jewish people. After liberating the temple, they went in to rededicate the temple,” Weingarten said, adding that they only found enough oil to burn the Menorah for one day. “They decided, ‘We’re going to do our part. We’re going to kindle the menorah, and God will do his part. We don’t always understand how things are going to work out, but we have to do our part.’ So they took the oil, they filled the candelabra, they lit the menorah and God reciprocated with a miracle that it burned for eight days, showing His love for His people.”

Weingarten pointed out that the fifth day of Hannukah, in which the ceremony occurred, was special.

“When fighting darkness, it happens one step at a time. When we light in the Menorah, it symbolizes light over darkness,” Weingarten said. “The fifth night is special because it’s finally tipping the scales of more light than dark.”

Panthers host Hurricanes looking for first victory of 2025

The Florida Panthers will face a formidable opponent when they play their first game of 2025 on Thursday night.

Florida will welcome the Carolina Hurricanes to Sunrise, a team full of firepower up front that the Panthers are very familiar with.

Over the past couple weeks, Carolina has lost four of six but still maintain one of the top three spots in the Metropolitan Division.

They will be looking their first win of the season against the Panthers, as Florida has earned a pair of victories in the two prior meetings between the former playoff opponents.

The Cats and Canes played and home and home back in late November, with the Panthers outscoring Carolina 12-3 while earning all four points.

Florida will roll out the same lineup against the Hurricanes that they deployed during their 5-3 victory over the New York Rangers on Monday.

Forward Jonah Gadjovich and defenseman Niko Mikkola, both dealing with upper-body injuries, will not play against Carolina.

They each skated on Wednesday separate from the rest of the team and are getting close to returning, according to Panthers Head Coach Paul Maurice.

West Virginia to Host Northern Illinois WR Transfer Cam Thompson for a Visit

The West Virginia wide receiver room needs a little TLC after Hudson Clement, Ric’Darious Farmer, and Traylon Ray entered the transfer portal in addition to Justin Robinson heading to the next level.

There are a number of receivers who they’re pursuing the transfer portal, including Northern Illinois’ Cam Thompson, who will be visiting campus on January 7th and 8th. He also has visits set up with Mississippi State on January 5th and 6th and Iowa on January 9th and 10th.

Thompson began his career at Eastern Illinois, where he appeared in four games, primarily on special teams. He did not record any stats at receiver. After his freshman campaign, he transferred to NIU and had a limited role on offense. This past season, however, he hauled in 28 receptions for 391 yards and three touchdowns.

He has two years of eligibility remaining.

DANVILLE, ILL. (WAND)- The Danville MLK Committee will host a special event for the 2025 MLK Celebration: “Empowering your Dreams.”

The celebration will begin with a parade on Monday, January 20, 2025.

The line-up for the parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the corner of Main and Logan Streets, and the procession will start at 10:30 a.m.

The celebration event will also include a community-wide service at St. James United Methodist Church at 11:30 a.m.

Senior pastor at New Zion Tabernacle of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Reverend Dr. Crystal Thomas, will serve as the speaker for the service.

The event will also feature a presentation of the $6000.00 MLK Scholarship to a Danville graduating high school senior. In addition, an ensemble of singers, under the direction of MLK Music Director Brett Dupree, will perform at the service.
