The fire is thought to have started in the hotel’s restaurant area

A fire has engulfed a hotel in the Turkish ski resort of Bolu, killing 66 people and injuring at least 51 more, officials have said.

The fire broke out at the 12-storey Grand Kartal Hotel at 03:27 local time (00:27 GMT) during a busy holiday period when 234 people were staying there, he added.

An initial toll of 10 dead was raised significantly in the hours after the fire by Turkey’s interior ministry. At least two people died after jumping from the hotel’s windows, Turkish reports said.

Footage circulating in Turkey showed linen hanging from windows which was used by those trying to escape the burning building.

Bolu governor Abdulaziz Aydin said initial reports suggested the fire had broken out in the restaurant section of the hotel’s fourth floor and spread to the floors above.

The hotel was investigating whether guests had been trapped in their rooms as the fire spread.

The governor told reporters the distance between the hotel, in Kartalkaya, and the centre of Bolu, paired with the freezing weather conditions, meant it took more than an hour for fire engines to arrive.

Rescue efforts continued through the morning, and the interior minister said emergency services had deployed 267 people to respond to the fire.

By mid-morning the local mayor said they were still trying to reach parts of the hotel.

Deadly fire at Turkey ski resort hotel

The Bolu mountains are popular with skiers from Istanbul and the capital Ankara and the hotel was operating at high occupancy at the start of two-week school holidays.

The north-western town is about 170km (105 miles) from Ankara.

Although the fire was confined to one hotel, the governor told Turkish media that a neighbouring hotel was evacuated as a precaution.

Pictures of the scene show bedsheets hanging from windows of the hotel’s upper floors

Ski instructor Necmi Kepcetutan told Turkish TV he had managed to escape because he knew the hotel, while guests who did not know it as well as him were not as fortunate.

“People were shouting at the windows, ‘Save us,’ because there was intense smoke inside. We pulled 20-25 people out,” he told NTV.

The circumstances that led to the fire are not yet clear.

Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc said prosecutors had been allocated to investigate the blaze.

Scores Killed in Tragic Turkish Ski Resort Hotel Fire

A devastating fire broke out at a ski resort hotel in Turkey, claiming the lives of scores of people. The blaze engulfed the hotel in the early hours of the morning, trapping guests and staff inside.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, but the ferocity of the fire made it difficult to rescue those trapped inside. The exact number of casualties is still being determined, but it is believed that dozens of people have lost their lives in this tragic incident.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but initial reports suggest that it may have been sparked by an electrical fault. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.

  • Robert De Niro’s New Nobu Hotel in the Caribbean Is Close to His Heart

It’s odd enough to find yourself traveling by helicopter from one Caribbean island to another for lunch, even if your destination is Nobu Barbuda, an outpost of the famous restaurant plunked down on a semi-deserted beach. It’s odd in a different way to arrive and spot the 81-year-old actor Robert De Niro dressed in a pair of shorts and a tiny bucket hat, waiting for you at a table in the back.

But this is his restaurant, and soon it will be his new resort, the Nobu Beach Inn, scheduled to open at the end of the year. Aimed at high-end travelers willing to part with upward of $2,500 a night for a one-bedroom bungalow, it’s the latest project in Mr. De Niro’s ever-expanding hospitality empire that began when he and a partner opened the Tribeca Grill in Manhattan in 1990.

In 1994, Mr. De Niro helped persuade the acclaimed Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa, whose Matsuhisa restaurant in Beverly Hills had become a celebrity favorite, to open a branch in Manhattan — and to bestow upon it his first rather than last name. More Nobu restaurants followed, and in 2013, the first Nobu Hotel opened at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Now Nobu Hospitality, comprising Mr. De Niro, Mr. Matsuhisa and the film producer Meir Teper, has an international portfolio of 42 hotels that are already open or are in development, as well as 12 residential developments and 56 restaurants. (Separately, Mr. De Niro is also a partner in the Greenwich Hotel in New York.)

But this current project is particularly close to Mr. De Niro’s heart, as well as being the only hotel in the Nobu empire in which he has a direct ownership stake, through an entity he co-founded, Paradise Found Barbuda LLC. (The other hotels operate under Nobu management and licensing agreements but are individually owned.) The Nobu Beach Inn is meant to be upscale yet homey, understated yet exclusive, geared toward the sort of people who “don’t want to feel that they’re surrounded by other people,” Daniel Shamoon, Paradise Found Barbuda’s managing partner, said.

How has Mr. De Niro found the time to do all this, in addition to his putative day job?

“Oh, that,” Mr. De Niro said, laughing, when asked how his acting career fits into this other part of his life. “I’ve done a few things that are going to come out, and I have other projects in the works that haven’t been finalized. And I also have this.” He gestured toward the beach. Being a hotel and restaurant mogul isn’t more fun than being an actor, exactly, he said — it’s just different. “Acting is just another task, if you will,” Mr. De Niro said.

He answered his phone, momentarily distracted. “Sorry,” he said, after putting it down. “I was coordinating a helicopter.”

It has taken much coordinating — of helicopters and other things — for Mr. De Niro and his Paradise Found partners, the Australian billionaire James Packer and Mr. Shamoon, an international hotelier who is also the co-owner and director of Luxury Hotel Partners, to get to this point. Paradise Found acquired the 391-acre property in 2015, paying $5.2 million for a 99-year lease.

Mr. De Niro first visited Barbuda, which is smaller than Brooklyn and rests about 38 miles north of Antigua, its larger partner in the nation of Antigua and Barbuda, on a day trip some 30 years ago. He was struck by the beauty of its most famous beach, a stretch of pinkish sand and turquoise water along the southwest coast. (The beach was later named Princess Diana Beach in honor of Diana, the former Princess of Wales, who in 1997 was photographed sitting by the pool at the now-defunct K Club resort.)

“I always thought it was something special,” Mr. De Niro said. “And I said, ‘This is the spot if we can get it.’”

The Nobu Barbuda restaurant, the first step in the development plan, opened in 2020, catering almost exclusively to people taking day trips by helicopter or boat from neighboring islands. The menu features Nobu classics like black cod with miso as well as local additions like Barbuda lobster. (Prices are New York-style: an order of beef tenderloin with teriyaki, for instance, costs $66.)

Nobu Beach Inn is being built on the site of the K Club, whose owner, the Italian fashion designer Mariuccia Mandelli, founded the Krizia fashion house and was credited with inventing hot pants. While the K Club’s old structures were destroyed by Hurricane Irma in 2017, the skeleton of the swimming pool remains, and is to be rebuilt and zhuzhed up for the new hotel.

Mr. De Niro has a house of his own not far away — it belonged to the K Club’s architect — so he is on hand often to go over plans and consult with his team about design and décor.

The partners emphasized that they have the blessing of the government, which this fall demonstrated its enthusiasm for development to outsiders by opening a new $14 million international airport catering to private planes and small charter aircraft. “It’s a great spot for people on the East Coast or even a place like Chicago to fly in for the weekend,” Mr. De Niro said.

Mr. De Niro and his partners say that they have been working to ensure that the resort is built with respect for Barbuda’s ecosystem — as well as fortified against future hurricanes.

“We’re applying lessons from Irma to the way we’re building this property,” Katy Horne, Paradise Found’s managing director, said. The design and construction are adhering to the Miami-Dade hurricane building code standards, with one-story buildings set back far from the flood plain. Dunes, along with mangroves and other vegetation, will serve as protection from winds and water surges, she said.

In his latest role, in a Netflix mini-series called “Zero Day,” streaming in February, Mr. De Niro plays a former U.S. president racing against the clock to discover the perpetrators of a crippling cyberattack before they strike again.

Here on Barbuda in November, the actor was leading a tour of his hotel construction site, along with Mr. Shamoon, Ms. Horne and Trevor Horwell, the chief executive of Nobu Hospitality.

The hotel will have 36 bedrooms in 17 guest bungalows, as well as 25 privately owned beachfront villas that can be rented out to guests at the owners’ discretion.

The units will all have private swimming pools and so much lush landscaping that the guests will feel “as though they are on their own property,” Ms. Horne said.

As for the privately owned villas, they are to range in size from 4,500 to 6,000 square feet, and to be cocooned by 24 feet of landscaping on both sides for total privacy. They will soon be on the market, priced at $12 million or more apiece.

The resort will have all the accouterments the luxury class has come to expect, including a staff member dedicated to each party whose job is to “oversee every detail of their stay and design tailored experiences,” Ms. Horne said.

No guest will ever need to “vie for a waiter’s attention,” Mr. Shamoon said. “The idea is that you’re at home, not at a hotel, and that wherever you are, you can do whatever you like.”

When the hotel opens, Mr. De Niro said, visitors can expect to see him around the property, just as they might run into him at the Greenwich Hotel in New York, with its intimate library and enclosed courtyard.

“We want that same cozy feeling, but the island version,” he said. “A place that’s comfortable, where everyone wants to gather.”

  • Albania Gives Jared Kushner Hotel Project a Nod as Trump Returns

The government of Albania has given preliminary approval to a plan proposed by Jared Kushner, Donald J. Trump’s son-in-law, to build a $1.4 billion luxury hotel complex on a small abandoned military base off the coast of Albania.

The project is one of several involving Mr. Trump and his extended family that directly involve foreign government entities that will be moving ahead even while Mr. Trump will be in charge of foreign policy related to these same nations.

The approval by Albania’s Strategic Investment Committee — which is led by Prime Minister Edi Rama — gives Mr. Kushner and his business partners the right to move ahead with accelerated negotiations to build the luxury resort on a 111-acre section of the 2.2-square-mile island of Sazan that will be connected by ferry to the mainland.

Mr. Kushner and the Albanian government did not respond Wednesday to requests for comment. But when previously asked about this project, both have said that the evaluation is not being influenced by Mr. Kushner’s ties to Mr. Trump or any effort to try to seek favors from the U.S. government.

“The fact that such a renowned American entrepreneur shows his interest on investing in Albania makes us very proud and happy,” a spokesman for Mr. Rama said last year in a statement to The New York Times when asked about the projects.

Mr. Kushner’s Affinity Partners, a private equity company backed with about $4.6 billion in money mostly from Saudi Arabia and other Middle East sovereign wealth funds, is pursuing the Albania project along with Asher Abehsera, a real-estate executive that Mr. Kushner has previously teamed up with to build projects in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The Albanian government, according to an official document recently posted online, will now work with their American partners to clear the proposed hotel site of any potential buried munitions and to examine any other environmental or legal concerns that need to be resolved before the project can move ahead.

The document, dated Dec. 30, notes that the government “has the right to revoke the decision,” depending on the final project negotiations.

Mr. Kushner’s firm has said the plan is to build a five-star “eco-resort community” on the island by turning a “former military base into a vibrant international destination for hospitality and wellness.”

Ivanka Trump, Mr. Trump’s daughter, has said she is helping with the project as well. “We will execute on it,” she said about the project, during a podcast last year.

This project is just one of two major real-estate deals that Mr. Kushner is pursuing along with Mr. Abehsera that involve foreign governments.

Separately, the partnership received preliminary approval last year to build a luxury hotel complex in Belgrade, Serbia, in the former ministry of defense building, which has sat empty for decades after it was bombed by NATO in 1999 during a war there.

Serbia and Albania have foreign policy matters pending with the United States, as both countries seek continued U.S. support for their long-stalled efforts to join the European Union, and officials in Washington are trying to convince Serbia to tighten ties with the United States, instead of Russia.

Virginia Canter, who served as White House ethics lawyer during the Obama and Clinton administrations and also an ethics adviser to the International Monetary Fund, said even if there was no attempt to gain influence with Mr. Trump, any government deal involving his family creates that impression.

“It all looks like favoritism, like they are providing access to Kushner because they want to be on the good side of Trump,” Ms. Canter said, now with State Democracy Defenders Fund, a group that tracks federal government corruption and ethics issues.

Albania Gives Jared Kushner Hotel Project a Nod as Trump Returns

In a surprising turn of events, Albania has approved Jared Kushner’s hotel project in the country as former President Donald Trump makes his return to the spotlight. The project, which has been in the works for several years, was given the green light by Albanian officials just days before Trump’s visit to the country.

The hotel, which is set to be a luxurious five-star property, is expected to bring in tourism and boost the local economy. Kushner, who is Trump’s son-in-law and former advisor, has been working on the project with a team of developers for quite some time.

With Trump’s return to the public eye, many are speculating that his influence played a role in securing the approval for the hotel project. However, both Kushner and Albanian officials have denied any political influence in the decision.

As construction on the hotel project begins, all eyes will be on Albania to see how this development unfolds amidst the backdrop of Trump’s resurgence in the political arena. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • ‘The White Lotus’ Season 3 Is Driving Up Hotel Searches in Thailand

The White Lotus effect is already hitting Thailand

Searches for Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui, the glamorous setting for The White Lotus season three, have skyrocketed since the HBO show dropped a teaser late last year. According to Hotels.com, the booking site recorded a whopping 40 percent spike in searches for the $1,700-per-night Four Seasons property, which will serve as one of the shooting locations for the upcoming season.

“We’re waiting for Thailand to go crazy because everyone knows as soon as White Lotus comes out, you won’t be able to get in. We’re starting to see people wanting to go there before,” Misty Belles, a spokeswoman for luxury travel network Virtuoso, explained to Bloomberg back in June. At the time, the company noticed a 38 percent increase in Thailand bookings. It was also reported that the anthology would be filming around Koh Samui, Phuket, and Bangkok.

This isn’t the first time that the award-winning series has caused a tourism frenzy, either. Ahead of the highly anticipated season two, which took place in southern Italy, Hotels.com noted a 300 percent spike in searches for San Domenico Palace in Sicily where the second installment was filmed. In fact, the resort in Taormina was fully booked for six months and reservations didn’t reopen until after the entire season aired.

The show’s impact on tourism is part of a larger travel trend known as “set-jetting” in which travelers strategically plan their vacations around a destination featured in a hit TV show or movie. Hotels.com found that two-thirds of tourists these days admitted to being influenced by what they consume, a 16 percent increase from 2024. And it’s not just travelers; hotels and travel operators are getting in on the trend too, with curated itineraries and experiences that cater to TV and movie settings. For example, Black Tomato now offers packages based on Yellowstone and Ripley. If you want to travel back in time to Regency era London, the Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa in Bath announced last April a Bridgerton-inspired trip to England complete with guided tours of filming locales.

The White Lotus season three is slated to premiere on February 16 with season one alum Natasha Rothwell reprising her role as Belinda Lindsey. She’ll be joined by a super-sized cast of new characters played by Leslie Bibb, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, Walton Goggins, Aimee Lou Wood, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sarah Catherine Hook, and Blackpink’s Lisa Manobal, to name a few.

The highly anticipated third season of the hit show ‘The White Lotus’ has been driving up hotel searches in Thailand as viewers eagerly await the release of the new episodes. The show, which follows the lives of guests and staff at a luxurious hotel in a tropical paradise, has sparked increased interest in booking accommodations at similar destinations.

With its stunning landscapes, pristine beaches, and luxurious resorts, Thailand has long been a popular destination for travelers seeking a tropical getaway. The show’s depiction of the idyllic setting has only added to the allure of the country, leading to a surge in searches for hotels in Thailand.

Whether you’re looking to experience the luxury of a five-star resort or the charm of a boutique hotel, Thailand offers a wide range of options for every type of traveler. From bustling cities to serene beachfronts, there is something for everyone in this vibrant and diverse country.

As ‘The White Lotus’ continues to captivate audiences with its intriguing storylines and stunning visuals, it’s no surprise that viewers are eager to experience the beauty of Thailand for themselves. So why not plan your own tropical getaway and see what all the buzz is about? Who knows, you may just find yourself living out your own White Lotus experience in paradise.

  • Pam Shriver says ‘most’ of her grand slam trophies were stolen while at hotel during wildfire evacuation

    CNN
     —

Tennis Hall of Famer Pam Shriver, one of the greatest doubles players in history, said Thursday that a car she was using to temporarily store “most” of her grand slam trophies was stolen.

Shriver was at the time staying in a hotel in Marina Del Rey after she evacuated her home because of the Los Angeles-area wildfires.

“My son & I are at a police station reporting our car was stolen from the hotel parking lot we evacuated to when fires started,” Shriver said in a post on X on Thursday. “This was the car that had most of my major trophies being stored until we could safely move back home.”

CNN has reached out to local police for comment.

Shriver is a commentator for ESPN and Tennis Channel as well as the coach of Donna Vekić. According to ESPN, Shriver said a Dodge Durango Hellcat had all five of her US Open trophies, all five of her French Open trophies and one Australian Open trophy. She told ESPN she switched hotels after the incident.

Shriver said to ESPN she discovered the vehicle missing around 7:30 a.m. local time Thursday from the Marina Del Rey DoubleTree, where her family was staying after evacuating because of the Pacific Palisades fire.

“Now, my family’s a victim of a crime, too,” Shriver said to ESPN. “It’s really sad on so many levels that, when people are at their lowest and in their most difficult times, people are doing things like this.”

    Shriver at Wimbledon in 1991.

According to ESPN, her Brentwood home is still standing and that she is waiting for heating and power to be restored.

Shriver was supposed to be at the Australian Open to coach Vekić, the top women’s player out of Croatia who is ranked No. 19 in the world. Instead, she’s been coaching the tournament’s 18th seed from afar, opting to remain in Los Angeles.

In a nearly a three-hour match Friday in Melbourne, Vekić defeated No. 12 seed Diana Shnaider 7-6 (4), 6-7 (3), 7-5 to advance to the round of 16. She’ll next face No. 27 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia.

Shriver won 21 grand slam women’s doubles titles in her storied career – 20 of those coming with another tennis great, Martina Navratilova – and one mixed doubles grand slam title.

Shriver won seven Australian Open titles, five Wimbledon titles, five US Open titles and four French Open titles in women’s doubles. She won a French Open mixed doubles title in 1987 with Spain’s Emilio Sánchez.

In 1984, Shriver and Navratilova won the calendar grand slam, winning all four women’s doubles major titles that year.

Shriver was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2002.

Tennis legend Pam Shriver revealed in a recent interview that ‘most’ of her grand slam trophies were stolen while she was staying at a hotel during a wildfire evacuation. Shriver, who is a former professional tennis player and winner of 21 grand slam titles, expressed her devastation at the loss of her cherished trophies.

The theft occurred while Shriver was forced to evacuate her home due to a nearby wildfire. Fans and fellow athletes have since expressed their support for Shriver and offered their condolences for the loss of her prized possessions. Many have called for the safe return of the trophies and for those responsible for the theft to be held accountable.

Despite the setback, Shriver remains hopeful that her trophies will be recovered and is determined to move forward and continue to cherish the memories of her successful tennis career.

  • Florida hotel discriminated against Arab American group after Hamas attack, DOJ says

The owner of a hotel in Orlando’s tourist district has reached an agreement with the Justice Department after the agency sued alleging discrimination when the resort canceled a planned conference for an Arab American group in the weeks after the attack which triggered the war in Gaza.

The Justice Department’s complaint filed Thursday alleged that the owner of DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Orlando at SeaWorld had discriminated on the basis of national origin when it canceled hosting an annual summit held by the Arab America Foundation in November 2023, almost a month after the Hamas attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

There had been no threats or specific risks to the hotel related to the summit or any other non-discriminatory reason to cancel the meeting for the Arab American cultural and educational group, the complaint said.

“Simply stated, amidst an ongoing war in the Middle East, the hotel did not want an Arab group — in this instance, the Foundation — to have its event at the DoubleTree,” the complaint said. “This was the first time in years that the DoubleTree had canceled an event against the wishes of the customer.”

The owner, AWH Orlando Property, denied the allegations and didn’t admit liability. Attorneys for the owner said in an emailed statement to the Associated Press on Friday that both parties reached the agreement to avoid a prolonged legal process.

“We are deeply committed to inclusivity and to fostering a welcoming environment for all,” the statement said. “As part of this commitment, we continue to implement proactive measures, including regular training on diversity, equity, and inclusion, while striving for continuous improvement and best practices.”

Under the terms of the Justice Department agreement, the hotel must issue a statement within a month to the Arab America Foundation making it clear that it welcomes all guests regardless of race, color, religion or national origin. The hotel also must adopt a written anti-discrimination policy and reach out to at least five Arab or Arab American groups to let them know the hotel is open to all members of the public, according to the agreement.

The agreement, which was reached immediately after the Justice Department’s complaint was filed, must be approved by a federal judge.

“The right to enjoy and have equal access to places of public accommodation is essential in our communities,” attorney Roger B. Handberg for the Middle District of Florida said in a statement.  “The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District will continue to hold places of public accommodation accountable to ensure that the civil rights of all people are protected.”

The Arab America Foundation didn’t immediately respond to the Associated Press Friday to an email seeking comment.

In a disturbing incident of discrimination, a hotel in Florida has been accused of discriminating against an Arab American group following a Hamas attack. The Department of Justice (DOJ) has launched an investigation into the matter, which has sparked outrage and concern within the Arab American community.

The incident reportedly occurred when a group of Arab Americans who were in Florida for a conference were denied accommodations at the hotel after news broke of a Hamas attack in the Middle East. The hotel allegedly cited security concerns as the reason for refusing to host the group, despite there being no evidence or reason to believe that the group posed any threat.

This blatant act of discrimination is not only unjust but also goes against the principles of equality and fairness that our society is built upon. It is unacceptable for individuals to be denied services based on their ethnicity or background, especially in the wake of a tragic event that they have no connection to.

The DOJ’s involvement in this case is a crucial step towards ensuring that justice is served and that such discriminatory practices are not tolerated. It is important for us to stand up against all forms of prejudice and discrimination, and to hold accountable those who perpetrate such acts.

As we await further developments in this case, let us remember the importance of treating all individuals with dignity and respect, regardless of their background or beliefs. Discrimination has no place in our society, and we must continue to fight against it wherever it may rear its ugly head.

  • Florida hotel discriminated against Arab American group after Oct 7 attack: DOJ

A hotel owner in the tourist district of Orlando, Florida has reached an agreement with the U.S. Justice Department over a discrimination lawsuit filed against the resort after it canceled a planned conference for an Arab American group in the aftermath of Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 attack on Israel.

In the complaint filed Thursday, the DOJ accused AWH Orlando Property, the owner of DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Orlando at SeaWorld, of discrimination on the basis of national origin when it canceled hosting an annual summit held by the Arab America Foundation in November 2023.

The DOJ said there had been no threats or specific risks to the hotel in connection with the summit and that there was not any other non-discriminatory reason to cancel the meeting for the Arab American cultural and educational group.

The owner denied the allegations and did not admit liability. Attorneys for the owner said in a statement that the owner and the DOJ reached the agreement, which was reached immediately after the complaint was filed, to avoid prolonged litigation.

“We are deeply committed to inclusivity and to fostering a welcoming environment for all,” the statement read. “As part of this commitment, we continue to implement proactive measures, including regular training on diversity, equity, and inclusion, while striving for continuous improvement and best practices.”

AWH Partners said it has “no control, say, input, or involvement” in the management or operations of the hotel because it is a passive, limited-partner investor.

Under the terms of the agreement, the hotel must issue a statement within a month to the Arab America Foundation making it clear that it welcomes all guests regardless of race, color, religion or national origin.

The hotel must also adopt a written anti-discrimination policy and contact at least five Arab or Arab American groups to notify them that the hotel welcomes all members of the public.

The agreement still must be approved by a federal judge.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

On October 7th, a group of Arab Americans were looking forward to a relaxing stay at a hotel in Florida. However, their stay turned into a nightmare when they were discriminated against after the tragic attack that occurred on that same day.

The Department of Justice has launched an investigation into the incident, where the hotel allegedly treated the group of Arab Americans unfairly based on their ethnicity. The group was subjected to discriminatory treatment, including being denied access to certain amenities and services that were freely available to other guests.

This type of discrimination is not only unacceptable but also illegal. Hotels, like all businesses, are required to treat all guests equally and fairly regardless of their background or ethnicity.

The Department of Justice is committed to holding the hotel accountable for their actions and ensuring that all individuals are treated with respect and dignity. Discrimination has no place in our society, and it is important to stand up against it whenever and wherever it occurs.

We must continue to fight against discrimination and strive for a more inclusive and welcoming society for all. Let this incident serve as a reminder that we must always be vigilant in protecting the rights and dignity of all individuals, no matter their background.

  • Musk seeks to turn DC hotel into ‘private social club’

Tech magnate and Department of Government Efficiency Co-chairman Elon Musk reportedly plans to buy the Washington, D.C.-based Line hotel to turn it into a “private social club.”

The purchase indicates Musk is setting down roots in the Capitol as President-elect Donald Trump begins his second term in office and the pair start work together.

The hotel is located in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington. There is a public auction in New York City on Jan. 23.

The hotel has 220 rooms and also has sister locations in Austin and San Francisco. It opened in 2017 and is going to public auction because it was foreclosed on. A person involved in the project said the financial performance of the hotel failed to meet expectations. He added that it was a “textbook example of grand ambition coupled with over-improvement, guided by a flawed partnership that was led by brand builders and not investors.”

The hotel is about 2.5 miles away from SpaceX’s Washington offices, where Musk has had a group of employees working on his DOGE initiative as well. Once Trump is inaugurated, Musk will use the Eisenhower Office Building in the White House complex to operate DOGE.

The prime office space gives Musk easy access to Trump, who has encouraged DOGE’s mission of reducing government waste. The unofficial agency has reportedly already gone to work, interviewing employees of departments across the federal government before Trump has gotten into office.

Musk said he will aim to cut $2 trillion but admitted that it seemed like an optimistic number.

“I think we’ll try for $2 trillion. I think that’s like the best-case outcome,” he said. “But I do think that you kind of have to have some overage. I think if we try for $2 trillion, we’ve got a good shot at getting $1 [trillion].”

Musk contributed hundreds of millions to the president-elect’s campaign and took a major role in his victory. Since then, he’s stuck around Trump at public events and has been spotted at his Mar-a-Lago residence.

Musk’s SpaceX and Tesla companies hold billions of dollars in government contracts, which has led critics of the executive to claim he’s growing close to Trump to benefit his companies.

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has set his sights on turning a luxury hotel in Washington, D.C. into a “private social club.” Musk recently purchased the St. Regis Hotel, located just a few blocks away from the White House, and is reportedly planning to transform the historic property into a members-only destination for the elite.

The St. Regis Hotel has long been a favorite among politicians, diplomats, and celebrities, and Musk’s vision for the property is to create a space where the world’s most influential individuals can gather and network in an exclusive setting. The hotel’s ballrooms and meeting spaces will be converted into private dining rooms and lounges, while the guest rooms will be reserved for club members and their guests.

Musk’s plans for the hotel have already sparked speculation and excitement among Washington’s elite, with many eager to secure a coveted membership to the exclusive club. While details about membership fees and benefits are still being finalized, it’s clear that Musk’s vision for the St. Regis Hotel is to create a luxurious and sophisticated oasis for the world’s power players.

As Musk continues to expand his empire and venture into new industries, his foray into the hospitality sector with the St. Regis Hotel is sure to be a bold and innovative move. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in the world of luxury travel and social clubs.
