Monster Hunter Wilds’ foes have higher health and flinch resistance than they did in World, “but this doesn’t mean that hunts will be tedious”
There’s little over a month to go now until the release of Monster Hunter Wilds, and it sounds like making use of certain new mechanics wisely will be key to dealing with the action RPG’s beefed-up monsters.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, hunters will be able to use Focus Mode to aim their attacks and guards, as well as unleash powerful Focus Strikes, which deal catastrophic damage to any wounds inflicted upon monsters (formed after they’ve been repeatedly attacked in the same spots). However, with this new inclusion, those looking for a challenge might be concerned that it’ll be too easy to quickly burn through monsters’ health bars, but it sounds like this won’t be a problem. In an interview with IGN, director Yuya Tokuda confirms that – comparatively to World – monsters will have have more health.
“It’s not as if that was our intention from the start, but health did end up being a little bit higher than World once we thought about maintaining appropriate playtimes and player satisfaction, compared to past titles,” the director explains, adding that “elements like flinch resistance are also higher, but this doesn’t mean that hunts will be tedious.”
It sounds like all these changes will ultimately balance out overall, as Tokuda explains: “Part of the purpose of Focus Mode is to allow players to feel more accomplished through shorter loops. We tried to design it so that the time they spend hunting is even more concentrated than before.”
Otherwise, Monster Hunter: World veterans will be pleased to know that the notorious decoration system has been reworked – instead of relying on RNG, you’ll be able to craft the ones you want to complete your perfect build without being let down by stingy drops.
Be sure to check out our Monster Hunter Wilds big preview hub to see more about the upcoming action RPG from our hands-on preview.
In the latest installment of the Monster Hunter series, Monster Hunter Wilds, players will notice that the foes they encounter have higher health and flinch resistance compared to the previous game, World. While this may seem like a daunting challenge at first, it doesn’t mean that hunts will be tedious. The increased health and resistance of the monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds simply means that players will need to strategize and adapt their hunting techniques accordingly. It will require more precision and skill to take down these formidable foes, but the satisfaction of a successful hunt will be even greater.
Players will need to make good use of their weapons, armor, and items to overcome the tougher enemies in Monster Hunter Wilds. Utilizing the environment and learning the behaviors of the monsters will also be key in achieving victory.
So while the battles may be more intense and challenging, they will also be more rewarding. Monster Hunter Wilds promises to test the skills of even the most experienced hunters, providing an exhilarating and thrilling gaming experience. Get ready to embark on epic hunts and face off against formidable foes in Monster Hunter Wilds!

FBI: International’s midseason premiere is full of tension and fear as Vo’s life continues to hang in the balance.
“How is she?” Special Agent in Charge Wes Mitchell (Jesse Lee Soffer) asks a surgeon about Cameron Vo (Vinessa Vidotto) in Us Weekly’s exclusive sneak peek at the Tuesday, January 28, episode, after she was shot during the midseason finale.
The doctor explains that while Vo is “stable” but due to “extensive soft tissue damage” around her collar bone (where she was shot) the “risk of infection is extremely high.”
The wound is currently free from bacteria, but the doctor warns, “If an infection does take hold especially in that area …” it won’t be good.

A worried Andre Raines (Carter Redwood) tries to get more details, asking, “Then what? What happens?” The surgeon ominously says that’s “all I can share” for now.
Despite their fear of losing Vo, Wes reminds his team that they have to find fugitive Greg Csonka (Beau Knapp) who killed his former partner. While the Fly Team had the evidence they needed to put Csonka away for 30 years, he managed to escape transport during the midseason finale, which aired in December 2024.
During his escape, Csonka shot Vo from behind which resulted in a fractured collar bone that needed immediate surgery.
When the series picks up on Tuesday, Wes and his team must put aside their feelings and find Csonka before he does more harm.
CBS
“OK. I know we all want to stay here. And leaving feels like the wrong thing to do right now, but Greg Csonka is out there,” Wes tells his crew, which includes longtime friend Tyler Booth (Jay Hayden), who joined the Fly Team during season 4, episode 7.
Wes explains in the preview that Csonka is “on the run and he’s willing to do God knows what to avoid capture.”
He notes, “Cam would want us to go get him. I know I would” before having one of the FBI’s computer techs come in to stay at the hospital and give them “constant updates.”
Agent Amanda Tate (Christina Wolfe) then confirms that Csonka’s plane was located on the border of France and Germany.
“That narrows it down to about a million square miles,” Tyler quips, before Megan “Smitty” Garrison (Eva-Jane Willis) adds that Interpol has officially issued a red notice for the fugitive.
According to CBS, the Fly Team’s hunt for Csonka will lead them to Paris during the episode, titled “The Kill Floor.”
While in the City of Lights, Raines gets kidnapped and is held hostage by Csonka, per photos of the episode that have been released. Other pictures from the midseason premiere show Wes and Tyler seemingly talking to the fugitive on the phone and a worried Smitty coordinating with local police.
FBI: International airs on CBS Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
In a heart-pounding race against time, Vo’s life hangs in the balance as the elite fly team hunts down Csonka in the bustling streets of Paris. With tensions high and danger lurking around every corner, the fate of Vo rests in the hands of the skilled operatives tasked with bringing Csonka to justice.Follow along as the pulse-pounding pursuit unfolds, with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Will the fly team be able to catch Csonka before it’s too late? Will Vo make it out alive? Only time will tell in this thrilling tale of cat-and-mouse in the City of Lights.
Stay tuned for updates as the high-stakes chase continues and the fate of Vo hangs in the balance. Paris may never be the same after this intense showdown between good and evil.

The Rookie Season 7 Trailer: Nolan Hunts Bailey’s Ex, Tim, Lucy Heat Up
The Rookie’s return is just around the corner and season 7 is bringing more drama, more baddies and more steamy scenes with Chenford!
In Us Weekly’s exclusive first look at the official season 7 trailer, it’s clear that the LAPD has its hands full now that two criminals have escaped — one being Officer John Nolan’s (Nathan Fillion) wife, Bailey Nune (Jenna Dewan), ex-husband, Jason Wyler (Steve Kazee).
“These are violent criminals so they’re not going to go down easy,” Tim Bradford (Eric Winter) teases in the trailer before scenes of the LAPD taking down one bad guy after the other flash across the screen.
After Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox) tells the precinct that both Oscar Hutchinson (Matthew Glave) and Jason are still “at large,” Nolan begins to worry about Bailey’s safety.
Disney/Mike Taing “Jason’s escape puts my wife’s life in danger,” Nolan says after his spouse admits, “There’s a lot I haven’t told you about Jason.”
In a pivotal scene, paramedic/firefighter Bailey gets out of her rig and appears to come face to face with Jason, who looks like he might run her over with his car.
“Being a cop is stressful, 24/7,” Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil) says as action-packed moments continue to play out in the background. “In this job we have to separate from the personal. It’s the hardest thing we have to do.”
Suspense, action and fear aren’t the only emotions viewers will feel this season. There appear to be some light-hearted moments as well, as Nolan “commandeers” a scooter to apprehend a suspect.
Disney/Ser Baffo “How the hell did you get here before me?” his partner Celina Juarez (Lisseth Chavez) asks him when she arrives after Nolan on scene. “Work harder not smarter,” he says while huffing and puffing over the pursuit.
Plus, Lucy and Tim (otherwise known as Chenford) engage in a playful game of who can train the better rookie, hinting that their icy exchanges to end season 6 are finally over.
The twosome, who previously dated, also have a very steamy moment together, giving fans even more hope that they’ll get back together.
“We shouldn’t,” Lucy tells Tim as he stands shirtless in front of her in one scene. “I know,” Tim replies. The pair then lean in closer before the camera pans away.
Disney/Mike Taing “Every year on the job is different. Every case is different. You never really stop being a rookie,” Harper teases.
Angela Lopez (Alyssa Diaz) ominously warns, “Because if we lose control, bad things happen.”
Season 7 of The Rookie premieres on ABC Tuesday, January 7, at 10 p.m. ET.

Boxing Day Test live: Australia hunts victory as India tries to chase down record score at MCG on day five
22 overs left – India 6-138 (T: 340)
Pat Cummins again.
Yashasvi Jaiswal jumps into the line of the ball and clips past Usman Khawaja for two.
Jaiswal keeps out the short ball. As long as he’s still out there, India has a chance of saving a draw.
23 overs left – India 6-138 (T: 340)
Mitchell Starc revs up and gee that hurt. The first couple balls of every spell have been agony for the big man with a busted back.
He’s hiding the ball in his off hand as he comes in. Did Cummins maybe sense some reverse swing in his over?
Nothing yet. There’s a bit of movement off the pitch, but nothing in a dangerous line yet.
Washington isn’t looking at anything outside off, so Starc fires in at off stump. Washington digs it out.
The last ball is a good one, swinging in at the pads and Washington keeps it out.
Worth remembering Washington Sundar scored 62 off 144 in the first innings of that famous Gabba victory for India in 2021.
24 overs left – India 6-138 (T: 340)
Pat Cummins is back.
He’s starting well and Jaiswal is trying to drive off the back foot. He’s a little edgy all of a sudden.
Cummins bangs in a short ball and Jaiswal and whips his head out the way.
He edges the last one into the ground and Mitch Marsh cleans up.
Sunil Gavaskar weighs in on Rishabh Pant’s latest dismissal
Perhaps more tame and poetic than “STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!!!”.
(Getty) “I’ve always felt that the six is like a drug. Once you’ve hit a couple of sixes, in any form of the game … it’s in you,” he says on ABC Sport.
“That could have been hit for a boundary.”
25 overs left – India 6-138 (T: 340)
Lyon to Washington again. He’s navigated the offie pretty well.
He knows everything is outside off and spinning away, and he’s playing accordingly.
Lyon tries to fire one in faster and Washington bunts it away to point.
26 overs left – India 6-132
Scott Boland is back with a silly mid-off for Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is on 76.
Jaiswal defends straight to him and Konstas has a fake shy at the stumps.
(Getty) Konstas is conducting the crowd clap from silly mid-off. Gotta love it.
Again, though, Jaiswal is untroubled.
Boland angles in from around the wicket and Jaiswal clips off his hip for two more.
Four! What a shot. Beautiful off drive to a length ball. He is rock solid out there.
27 overs left – Lyon has fielders all around the bat
Two slips, two silly mid-offs, a short leg. Washington is in a battle.
And he edges behind, but wide of slip.
Washington is defending well outside off.
Not a lot really happens in the over, but the fielders are having a grand old time.
28 overs left – In comes Scott Boland
Yashasvi Jaiswal faces up, with even more pressure on his young shoulders.
WHOOSH! Jaiswal throws everything at a rank wide one and misses everything. Was that about runs or just scaring the life out of Sam Konstas under the lid?
Konstas is in the firing line. He still won’t shut up though.
We have our answer on Travis Head’s celebration
(ABC Sport) It’s a reference to Head’s own joke after taking 4-10 in Galle in 2022.
64th over – Lyon with Washington Sundar the new man in
Another chance! A tough one, but Washington drives up into Konstas thigh at silly mid-off and the ball pops up behind him to safety.
Washington pushes hard and takes two to cover.
LYON GETS NITISH AND INDIA IS SIX DOWN!
Nathan Lyon gets a ball to skid on straight on and finds the outsid edge, and Steve Smith takes a superb catch down low to his left behind Alex Carey.
Lyon loved that one. The Aussies are up and about now.
29 overs left – Lyon again
Nitish Kumar Reddy is on strike.
63rd over – An enormous roar greets Nitish Kumar Reddy to the crease
The first-innings century-maker is out in the middle to face Boland.
A little leading edge as Nitish tries to clip off his thigh. That would have gone straight to a silly mid-off, but there’s no-one in there. Still not a very attacking field.
Cummins puts someone in there in response, and Nitish gets off the mark by turning a single off his hip behind square.
Jaiswal carves a couple into the deep. He’s still cutting from close to off stump.
JADEJA IS GONE!! Boland does it again!
Scott Boland strikes in his first over and India is five wickets down.
Not for the first time today, Boland gets a ball to jump at a batter and Jadeja can’t help but fend at it, getting a healthy nick through to Alex Carey.
30 overs left – Scott Boland replaces Travis Head
Saving Pat Cummins an Mitchell Starc for the new ball? But it’s still 18 overs away. I think it’s worth a couple of efforts from the strike men against the new batter.
31 overs left – Lyon is bowling with fielders around the bat
Ravindra Jadeja has Sam Konstas and Marnus Labuschagne jabbering away under the lids on either side of the pitch.
Lyon’s challenging both edges right now, but Jaiswal is doing well to smother the ball.
He’s getting a good stride in to defend.
And that’s a maiden.
Any guesses what this celebration was about?
Not sure what Travis Head was doing after Rishabh pant’s wicket.(Getty) 32 overs left – Head comes over the wicket
Jaiswal is slashing to the off side and Head gets a look at Jadeja.
Jadeja pushes to mid-off and takes a single on Marnus’s arm.
Konstas is lippy in at silly mid-off.
Four singles including one of the last ball of the over. So Jadeja keeps the strike.
33 overs left – Nathan Lyon continues
Ravindra Jadeja is out there, but Lyon is still bowling to Jaiswal, who’s getting forward to defend.
“Has he picked it?” shouts Konstas at silly mid-off as Jaiswal plays back to defend a skidder.
Jaiswal nudges a single to cover, so Lyon has one ball at Jadeja.
