The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly signed infielder Hyeseong Kim to a three-year deal with $12.5 million guaranteed, according to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya. The contract has a two-year option for the 2028 and 2029 seasons that could allow the deal to be worth as much as $22 million.

MLB teams were able to negotiate a contract with Kim after he was posted on Dec. 5. Teams had until 5 p.m. ET on Friday to work out a deal.

The 25-year-old Kim, who has played the past six seasons with the KBO’s Kiwoom Heroes, was the first player from South Korea and Japan to be posted this offseason and has been training in Los Angeles for the past month.

Kim, a left-handed hitter, is coming off a career season with the Heroes in which he hit 11 home runs, drove in 75 runs, stole 30 bases and posted a .326 batting average. It was his fourth straight season hitting over .300 and his seventh straight season with at least 20 stolen bases.

Over his eight-season career, Kim has slashed .304/.364/.403 with 386 RBI in 953 games. His 211 steals since 2018 are the most by any KBO player during that span.

Defensively, he’s a three-time KBO Fielding Award winner. He won the award in 2021 at shortstop and in 2022 and 2023 at second base.

After the Dodgers played an exhibition in March against a team of Korean All-Stars, manager Dave Roberts said that Kim impressed the team’s scouts.

“Our scouts like the second baseman: just the way his body moves. There’s some life to the bat and defensively (he) made a nice play out there,” Roberts said. “There’s good baseball players all over the world and so this is just another chance for us to see them and for them to match themselves against us.”

With the signing of Kim and re-signing of Teoscar Hernández, that puts the Dodgers right at the 40-man roster limit, meaning someone will need to be moved out. And with Mookie Betts set at shortstop and Gavin Lux at second base, Kim will fill a utility role.

Kim is the fifth player from the Heroes to sign with an MLB team following Kang Jung-ho (Pittsburgh Pirates), Park Byung-ho (Minnesota Twins), Ha-seong Kim (San Diego Padres) and Jung-hoo Lee (San Francisco Giants).

Had Kim not signed with an MLB team, he would have returned to the Heroes and would be unable to be posted again until after Nov. 1, 2025.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly reached an agreement with South Korean pitcher Hyeseong Kim on a 3-year deal. The 22-year-old right-hander is said to be joining the Dodgers’ organization after an impressive stint in the KBO League.

Kim, known for his electric fastball and devastating breaking pitches, is expected to bolster the Dodgers’ pitching staff and provide depth for the upcoming season. With his impressive track record and potential for growth, Kim is poised to make a significant impact in the Major Leagues.

Dodgers fans are excited to welcome Kim to the team and are looking forward to seeing him on the mound in Dodger blue. Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting new addition to the team develops. #Dodgers #HyeseongKim #MLB #Baseball

The Dodgers have agreed to a deal with Korean infielder Hyeseong Kim, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

The deal is for three years and a guaranteed $12.5 million with an option for 2028-29 that could increase the value of the deal to $22 million. The club has not confirmed the deal, which needs to be approved by Major League Baseball, per Feinsand.

Kim, one of the top hitters in the KBO, was posted by his team, the Kiwoom Heroes, in early December. That marked the beginning of a 30-day window for the 25-year-old second baseman to sign with an MLB team, with a deadline of 5 p.m. ET Friday to reach an agreement. Any team willing to pay to the Heroes the corresponding release fee and any applicable supplemental fees was able to negotiate with Kim.

Kim has batted .304 and logged a .364 on-base percentage over eight seasons with the Kiwoom Heroes. Kim has also stolen at least 20 bases in each of the past seven seasons, reaching as high as 46 in 2021. A left-handed hitter, Kim slashed .326/.383/.458 with 11 home runs and 30 steals for Kiwoom this year.

Kim, who turns 26 years old later this month, is a four-time winner of a KBO Golden Glove Award, which honors the best overall player at each position in the KBO. He won the award in each of the past three seasons at second base after claiming it at shortstop in 2021.

After weeks of negotiations, Hyeseong Kim has officially agreed to a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The talented pitcher from South Korea is set to bring his skills to the Major League Baseball team, adding depth to their already impressive roster.

Kim, known for his fastball and pinpoint accuracy, is expected to make an immediate impact on the Dodgers’ pitching staff. With his signing, the team solidifies their bullpen and strengthens their chances of contending for a championship in the upcoming season.

Dodgers fans are eager to see Kim in action and are hopeful that his addition to the team will help lead them to success on the field. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development! #Dodgers #HyeseongKim #MLBSigning

The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly landed a star from Korea.

Per The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya, the Dodgers are in agreement with Korean Baseball Organization infielder Hye-seong Kim ahead of the end of his posting window, which closes Friday.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported the contract is for three years with an option for 2028-29 and includes $12.5 million guaranteed. Heyman noted that the contract is worth up to $22 million.

Kim, 25, has been in the KBO since 2017 and spent the last six seasons with the Kiwoom Heroes. In 127 games with the Heroes last season, he hit .326/.383/.458 with 26 doubles, four triples, 11 home runs, 75 RBI, 90 runs and 30 stolen bases. He’s hit .304/.364/.403 for his career.

Kim mostly plays second base but has also spent time at shortstop and third base, meaning the Dodgers will get a versatile defender who can adjust to different spots in the infield if needed.

Right now, the Dodgers have Gavin Lux at second, Mookie Betts at shortstop and Max Muncy at third, though Kim could make his way into the starting lineup with a strong showing in spring training later this year.

Los Angeles will now begin its title defense boasting a handful of strong new additions, with Kim just adding to the list.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly made a big splash in free agency, agreeing to a $12.5 million contract with South Korean infielder Hye-seong Kim. The deal is said to be for four years, adding a versatile and talented player to the Dodgers’ roster.

Kim, 25, is a highly touted prospect who has drawn interest from several MLB teams. He has shown impressive skills both offensively and defensively, and is expected to make an immediate impact with the Dodgers.

This signing adds depth to the Dodgers’ infield and provides them with a young, dynamic player who can contribute in multiple positions. Kim’s arrival is sure to generate excitement among fans as the team gears up for the upcoming season.

  • Dodgers To Sign Hyeseong Kim

    Dodgers To Sign Hyeseong Kim

With hours left to go before his posting window closes, Hyeseong Kim and the Dodgers are reportedly in agreement on a three-year deal. The news was originally reported by Korean media outlets (h/t to Daniel Kim) and confirmed by Francys Romero. Jon Heyman of the New York Post was the first to report the financial terms of the contract. Kim will make a guaranteed $12.5MM from 2025-27. After the 2027 season, the Dodgers can exercise a two-year team option that would pay him an additional $9.5MM from 2027-28.

Kim’s former team, the Kiwoom Heroes, officially posted him on December 5, giving him until 4:00 PM CT this afternoon to sign with an MLB club. As the days ticked by and the rumor mill remained relatively quiet, it seemed like a legitimate possibility that Kim would return for one more season with the Heroes. Instead, the Dodgers, who hadn’t been closely linked to Kim this winter, swooped in and made a winning offer in the nick of time. In addition to Kim’s salary, the Dodgers will have to pay a $2.5MM release fee to the Heroes (20% of the $12.5MM on his deal).

Kim, soon to be 26, is a four-time consecutive winner of the KBO Golden Glove Award, given annually to the best overall player at each position. He won the award at shortstop in 2021 before moving to second base and winning each year from 2022-24. In addition to playing a strong second base and at least a capable shortstop, Kim is also an asset on the basepaths. He led the KBO in stolen bases in 2021 and has swiped at least 20 bags in all seven full seasons of his career. His glove and legs should give him a relatively high floor as a utility player in MLB, if nothing more.

    More to come…

The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly reached a deal to sign South Korean infielder Hyeseong Kim. The 21-year-old is considered one of the top international prospects and is expected to bring a new level of talent to the Dodgers’ roster.

Kim, who plays both second base and shortstop, has shown impressive skills both offensively and defensively. His quick hands and strong arm make him a versatile player who can make an impact on both sides of the ball.

With the Dodgers looking to bolster their infield depth, Kim’s signing could prove to be a key move for the team as they aim to defend their World Series title in the upcoming season.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting signing and how Kim will fit into the Dodgers’ lineup in the coming months. #Dodgers #HyeseongKim #MLBSigning

Korean infielder Hye-seong Kim has signed a deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, reports The Athletic. Multiple outlets from South Korea have the deal in the area of three years and $22 million. Word of the contract comes just hours before the deadline for for Kim to sign with an MLB team or return to South Korea’s KBO. He was posted by the Kiwoom Heroes last month.

Kim turns 26 later this month. In 127 games last season, he hit .326/.383/.458 with 26 doubles, four triples, 11 homers, 75 RBI, 90 runs and 30 stolen bases in 36 tries. In his KBO career, he’s hit .304/.364/.403. The power has been a concern, but he’s set new career highs in slugging percentage each of the last three seasons and the 11 homers last year were four more than his previous best.

MLB front offices got a few looks at Kim the last several years, as he was teammates with Jung Hoo Lee and Ha-Seong Kim in the past.

A full-time shortstop in 2021 who also spent time at third base, Kim has otherwise spent the overwhelming majority of his time on defense at second base. Even if the bat doesn’t play, the expectation is Kim will be a quality defender and baserunner. CBS Sports’ R.J. Anderson broke down Kim’s game when he was posted in early December.

It remains to be seen if the Dodgers view Kim as a starter. They’ll start finding out in spring training. There could be a fit for a starter here, as there are moving parts. It looks right now as if Gavin Lux would start at second, Mookie Betts at shortstop and Max Muncy at third base. Teoscar Hernández and Michael Conforto are the corner outfielders with Tommy Edman in center. Betts could be shifted to the outfield, though, which would open a spot for Kim to start. Muncy can play second or first. Edman can play shortstop in a bind, which would shuffle the entire outfield. The bench includes Miguel Rojas, who can play multiple infield spots, utility man Chris Taylor and outfielder Andy Pages.

Looking at all of this, the Kim signing should be viewed as the Dodgers stockpiling depth. The World Series champs went through a bunch of injury adversity last season, so they know all too well how important organizational depth can be. As an added bonus, they prevent any other team from signing Kim.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly signed Korean infielder Hye-seong Kim to a three-year deal. Kim, who has impressed scouts with his defensive skills and versatility, is expected to provide depth to the Dodgers’ infield.
