Shailene Woodley’s Big Little Lies Son Iain Armitage Supports Her on Broadway

Shailene Woodley is feeling the love from her TV family!

Iain Armitage took to Instagram on Monday, Dec. 30 to celebrate his Big Little Lies mom in her Broadway debut. The sweet post featured a photo of the costars backstage followed by throwback pictures of the two of them and one snap of Armitage, 16, holding up the show’s playbill.

“Last night I got to see my first fake Mama, @shailenewoodley in a play on Broadway! She’s in Cult of Love at @2stnyc,” he captioned it. “When I was 7 I got cast in Big Little Lies. Before we headed to LA to begin filming, I had a FaceTime call with Shailene and I asked her what it would all be like. She assured me that it would be fun, ‘like playing’ and wow, she was so right. She, along with our excellent director Monsieur Jean-Marc set the tone for me and I’m certain that the joy we had on Big Little Lies is the reason I stayed with acting. So to get to see Shailene on stage in this remarkable NY stage debut was a thrill.”

“The play is about a family gathering on Christmas with all their tension, trauma, love, history and talent on full display and I loved it,” he continued. “I hope Shailene keeps coming back to theatre because it makes me so happy to see her up there and I hope she knows how proud I am to be her fake son!”

The actress, 33, put the post on her Instagram Stories, writing: “my Ziggy came to the show last night. made my heart so happy.”

She also reposted one of the photos from their younger years and wrote: “hes grown into such an extraordinary young man. can’t believe how much time has gone since we did Big Little Lies.

Fans might get to see an on-screen reunion between Woodley and Armitage soon, with Nicole Kidman seemingly confirming a third installment of the limited series in November 2023. In May, the Young Sheldon star also teased the potential upcoming season

“I haven’t heard anything fully officially yet, but when such incredible intelligent people as our leading ladies start talking, I think it’s pretty hard not to listen,” he said in praise of Woodley, Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern and Zoë Kravitz. “I’d be honored to be back.”

Cult of Love officially opened on Dec. 12, where Woodley stars alongside her former Snowden costar Zachary Quinto. The Second Stage Theater’s production tells the story of four adult siblings who return to their childhood home for a dramatic holiday season.

“It’s the holiday season for the Dahl family!” an official synopsis for the play reads. “The Dahl traditions include singing carols in harmony at the drop of a hat, but the gathering is anything but harmonious. Old conflicts resurface, new issues battled, and dinner is taking absolutely forever to be served. Will the love the Dahls have for each other be enough to get them through, or will this be their last Christmas together?”

Among the cast are other stars making their Broadway debuts as well, including Euphoria‘s Barbie Ferreira, GLOW‘s Christopher Lowell, Younger‘s Molly Bernard, Star Wars: The Acolyte‘s Rebecca Henderson and musician Christopher Sears.

They are also joined by theatrical veterans Mare Winningham, David Rasche and Roberta Colindrez.

Shailene Woodley’s Big Little Lies Son Iain Armitage Supports Her on Broadway

Big Little Lies star Shailene Woodley has been making waves on Broadway with her performance in the play “The Crucible,” and she has a special supporter cheering her on in the audience – her on-screen son, Iain Armitage.

Armitage, who plays Woodley’s son Ziggy Chapman on the hit HBO series, recently attended one of her performances and shared his excitement and support for her on social media. In a heartfelt Instagram post, he wrote, “I am so proud of my TV mom @shailenewoodley for her amazing performance in The Crucible on Broadway. She is truly a talented and inspiring actress and I feel so lucky to have worked with her. Go see the show if you can!”

Woodley and Armitage’s on-screen bond has translated into a real-life friendship, and it’s heartwarming to see Armitage supporting Woodley as she takes on new challenges and showcases her talent on the Broadway stage.

Fans of Big Little Lies and Woodley’s work can catch her in “The Crucible” on Broadway and witness her incredible performance firsthand. And with Armitage rooting for her from the audience, it’s clear that she has a strong support system behind her every step of the way.

“He’s grown into such an extraordinary young man,” she further gushed. “Can’t believe how much time has gone by since we did Big Little Lies.”

While season two of the Emmy-winning series—which is based on the 2014 novel by Leanne Moriarty—concluded in 2019, the cast has frequently expressed interest in revisiting Monterey. In fact, Reese Witherspoon recently revealed that what happens in the confirmed season three is in the hands of the book’s author.

Nicole [Kidman] and I have been waiting,” she told E! News in October. “We’re in waiting for Leanne Moriarty. She’s going to be turning in something very soon. We’re back to the original author and we’re going to go back to the original characters.”

And despite the lengthy gap between seasons, the Legally Blonde star was optimistic about how the passing of time would impact the story.

“It’s exciting, too, because I think the kids are probably a little bit older now,” she continued. “So that might add another element. I don’t know yet, I haven’t read it yet.”

But until production gets underway, don’t expect many more updates on the new season’s progress.

“We need to shut up,” Reese told Vanity Fair in June. “There’s this whole thing that you should never talk about something until you’ve done it. If you talk about doing it, it’s the dopamine hit of doing it. You feel like you’ve done it. It’s a scientific study.”

Iain Glen Teases Dangers to Come in ‘The Rig’ Season 2

After such an epic Season 1 finale that left viewers with questions unanswered, The Rig is set to return today, January 2, with its second season. In the new chapter, a lot is about to go down with the surviving crew of the Kinloch Bravo, who will be faced with an “awful conflict,” according to star Iain Glen. Glen, who stars as Magnus MacMillan, the leader of the crew, recently spoke to RadioTimes ahead of The Rig’s new season, teasing a goal-oriented journey for the crew as well as the challenges awaiting them.

Season 1 of the supernatural thriller stars Martin Compston, Iain Glen, Emily Hampshire, Mark Addy, Owen Teale, and Rochenda Sandall, all of whom will return in the upcoming season. Previewing what’s ahead in Season 2, particularly for the crew, Glen said:

“It’s a terrible predicament to put people in – you can sign this agreement, we’ll give you lots of money and you can try and find your loved ones who may not be with us anymore, or you can stay here and not do that.”

The Game of Thrones actor further spoke of the journey to come, saying there’s “less in-fighting” since the crew now have the same opinion of who the enemy is “or who we should be suspicious of.” He added:

“We’re all completely disorientated because we land not knowing where and we end up on this high-tech prototype… it’s investigating rare metals and minerals in the Arctic and it also has the capacity to go deep into the ocean and into the seabed.”

“There’s A Sense of Corporate Cover-up” in ‘The Rig’ Season 2

Created by David Macpherson, who wrote the scripts with Matthew Jacobs Morgan and Meg Salter, The Rig debuted on Amazon Prime Video on January 6, 2023, comprising six episodes that ended with a devastating tsunami and the remaining crew being whisked off on helicopters. As for what’s more to expect from the journey the crew will go on in Season 2, Glen shared:

“So we’re all in a very alien environment that we don’t understand and Pictor are asking a favour and are trying to incorporate us into a rescue mission and we’re very suspicious of them, understandably, after what has happened. There’s a sense of corporate cover-up.”

Meanwhile, earlier in the interview, the Resident Evil star hinted at the conflict looming in the future while praising the series’ creator and writer, David Macpherson.

“David just writes so well in getting to the heart of people’s awful conflict… he’s very good at bringing proper consequence. Sometimes in disaster movies, there don’t seem to be any real consequences – the goodies survive and let’s forget everyone who died in the meantime because our heroes are still alive.”

The Rig Season 2 premieres on Thursday, January 2. Check out its official trailer above!
