  • Bears’ Ian Cunningham loses out on Titans GM job again

Chicago Bears assistant general manager Ian Cunningham appears to be staying put, for now.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Tennessee Titans are hiring Kansas City Chiefs assistant GM Mike Borgonzi as their general manager. Cunningham was one of six finalists for the Titans GM job, where he had an in-person interview with Tennessee on Wednesday.

This is the second time Cunningham has been turned down for Titans general manager. He was a finalist for the gig back in 2023, which ultimately went to Ran Carthon, who lasted just two seasons.

Cunningham has been with the Bears since 2022, and he’s now interviewed for vacant GM jobs in the last three offseasons. That includes last year when he was passed over for the Washington Commanders Head of Football Ops job, which went to Adam Peters. Cunningham also reportedly turned down the Arizona Cardinals job back in 2023.

Cunningham still seems destined to land a GM job in the future. If that happens, Chicago will land two third-round picks over the next two ensuing NFL drafts

This article originally appeared on Bears Wire: Bears’ Ian Cunningham loses out on Titans GM job again

It seems like the Tennessee Titans just can’t seem to make up their mind when it comes to hiring a new general manager. For the second time in as many years, the Titans have passed over Bears’ executive Ian Cunningham for the GM job.

Cunningham, who has been with the Bears organization for over a decade, was considered a top candidate for the Titans GM position. However, the team ultimately decided to go in a different direction, leaving Cunningham once again on the sidelines.

Many Bears fans are disappointed to see Cunningham miss out on this opportunity, as he has been an integral part of the team’s success in recent years. However, it seems that the Titans have their own reasons for choosing a different candidate.

While it’s unclear what Cunningham’s next steps will be, one thing is for certain – he will continue to be a valuable asset to the Bears organization. Perhaps one day he will finally get the chance to lead a team as a general manager, but for now, he will have to continue to wait for his shot.

  • Titans Complete In-Person Interview with Bears Assistant General Manager Ian Cunningham for the team’s General Manager Position

NASHVILLE – The Titans completed an in-person interview on Wednesday with Bears Assistant GM Ian Cunningham for the team’s General Manager position.

The Titans previously conducted a virtual interview with Cunningham over the weekend.

In-person interviews with other candidates will continue in the coming days.

Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk, President and CEO Burke Nihill, President of Football Operations Chad Brinker, head coach Brian Callahan and others on the team’s football staff are among those involved in the in-person interviews at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park.

Cunningham is in his third season as Assistant GM with the Bears.

In Chicago, he served as the top lieutenant to Bears General Manager Ryan Poles.

Cunningham arrived in Chicago with 14 years of NFL front office experience, having most recently served as Director of Player Personnel for the Philadelphia Eagles, a position he was promoted to at the beginning of the 2021 season.

Prior to his promotion, Cunningham worked as the Assistant Director of Player Personnel (2019-20) and oversaw the college scouting department from 2017-18 as the Director of College Scouting.

A two-time Super Bowl Champion (XLVII and LII) as a member of the Baltimore Ravens’ and Eagles’ front office, Cunningham’s NFL front office career began in 2008 when he was hired in Baltimore as a Player Personnel Assistant. After five seasons as an assistant, he worked as a Southeast Area Scout for the Ravens for two seasons (2013-14) before taking on additional responsibility as the Southeast/Southwest Area Scout from 2015-16.

Along with Cunningham, the Titans previously conducted first-round virtual interviews with Dolphins Senior Personnel Executive Reggie McKenzie, former Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff, Buccaneers Assistant General Manager John Spytek, Seahawks Senior Director of Player Personnel Matt Berry, Colts Assistant GM Ed Dodds, Bills Director of Player Personnel Terrance Gray, Browns Assistant GM & VP of Football Operations Catherine Hickman, Patriots Assistant General Manager Mike Borgonzi and Packers Vice President of Player Personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan.

The Titans also had in-person interviews with Ed Dodds and Terrance Gray on Tuesday, and with Mike Borgonzi earlier on Wednesday.

The Tennessee Titans have completed an in-person interview with Ian Cunningham, the Assistant General Manager of the Chicago Bears, for their vacant General Manager position.

Cunningham, who has been with the Bears organization since 2013, has played a key role in the team’s front office operations and player personnel decisions. He is highly regarded for his football acumen and has been credited with helping build a competitive roster in Chicago.

The Titans have been conducting an extensive search for their next General Manager after parting ways with Jon Robinson earlier this season. Cunningham’s interview is reportedly one of several that the team has conducted as they look to find the right candidate to lead their organization.

While the Titans have not made any official announcements regarding their General Manager search, the interview with Cunningham is a sign that they are actively looking to fill the position. Stay tuned for further updates as the team continues their search for a new leader in their front office.

  • Bears assistant GM Ian Cunningham moves on as finalist for Titans job with 2nd interview

Bears general manager Ryan Poles has long expected to lose assistant general manager Ian Cunningham, and that’s becoming closer to a reality.

Cunningham, 39, was in-person for his second interview with the Titans on Wednesday and appears to be a finalist for the job.

He has had interviews before and turned down an offer from the Cardinals to be their general manager a year ago.

Poles hired Cunningham when he joined the Bears in January 2022, and he’s been essential to the personnel department. The two are longtime friends and even lived together their early time with the Bears.

Cunningham has not been part of the Bears’ interviews with candidates for head coach. Poles said he wanted him to have time to prepare for his own job interviews and that he would join the process if it became clear he was coming back to the Bears.

Cunningham, a former offensive lineman out of Virginia, got his start as an assistant and scout with the Ravens. He rose to director of player personnel with the Eagles in 2021 before Poles brought him to the Bears.

The Chicago Bears are facing some changes in their front office as assistant general manager Ian Cunningham has emerged as a finalist for the Tennessee Titans’ general manager position. Cunningham has reportedly impressed the Titans during his first interview and has been invited back for a second interview.

This news comes as a bit of a surprise to Bears fans, as Cunningham has been a key figure in the team’s front office for several years. Known for his keen eye for talent and strong draft strategies, Cunningham has played a crucial role in shaping the Bears’ roster.

While it would be a loss for the Bears to see Cunningham go, it’s also a testament to his skills and expertise that he is being considered for such a prestigious position with another NFL team. Bears fans will be watching closely to see how this situation unfolds and wishing Cunningham the best of luck in his potential new role with the Titans.

  • The Impact of Ian Book’s Contract on the Quarterback Market

The Impact of Ian Book’s Contract on the Quarterback Market

Ian Book, the former Notre Dame quarterback, recently signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints that could have a significant impact on the quarterback market. With the NFL draft approaching and several teams in need of a franchise quarterback, Book’s contract could set a new benchmark for rookie quarterbacks entering the league.

Book, who was a fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft, signed a four-year deal with the Saints worth $3.9 million, including a signing bonus of $747,000. While this may seem like a modest contract compared to some of the top-paid quarterbacks in the league, it represents a solid payday for a rookie quarterback.

The impact of Book’s contract on the quarterback market is twofold. First, it sets a baseline for future rookie quarterbacks entering the league. With the salary cap increasing each year, rookie contracts are also on the rise. Book’s contract could serve as a reference point for agents and teams negotiating rookie deals in the future.

Second, Book’s contract could also influence the market for veteran quarterbacks. With teams always looking to save money against the salary cap, a solid performance from a rookie quarterback like Book could make teams more willing to move on from their expensive veteran quarterbacks. This could lead to a domino effect in the quarterback market, with more veteran quarterbacks being released or traded to make room for younger, cheaper talent.

Overall, Ian Book’s contract with the New Orleans Saints could have a ripple effect on the quarterback market in the NFL. As teams continue to search for their next franchise quarterback, Book’s contract could serve as a reference point for rookie deals and potentially influence the decisions of teams with veteran quarterbacks on their roster. Only time will tell how Book’s contract will impact the quarterback market, but one thing is for certain – the landscape of the NFL quarterback position is constantly evolving.

  • Ian Book’s Contract Extension: A Win-Win for Player and Team

Ian Book’s Contract Extension: A Win-Win for Player and Team

Ian Book, the talented quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, recently signed a contract extension with the team, solidifying his future with the organization. The new deal is a win-win for both Book and the Saints, as it provides security and stability for the young player, while also ensuring that the team has a promising quarterback to build around for the years to come.

Book, who was selected by the Saints in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, has shown great potential in his limited playing time. He has demonstrated poise, accuracy, and leadership on the field, earning the trust of his coaches and teammates. With his contract extension, Book now has the opportunity to continue to develop and grow as a player within the Saints’ system.

For Book, the contract extension represents a vote of confidence from the organization, as well as a chance to prove himself as a starting quarterback in the NFL. It gives him the security of knowing that he has a stable job and a team that believes in his abilities. With this new deal, Book can focus on his development and preparation, without the distraction of contract negotiations looming over his head.

For the Saints, locking up Book with a contract extension makes perfect sense. With veteran quarterback Drew Brees retiring in 2020, the team has been searching for a long-term solution at the position. Book has shown enough promise to be considered a potential successor to Brees, and the team is clearly invested in his development. By extending his contract, the Saints are ensuring that they have a young, talented quarterback to build around for the future.

Overall, Ian Book’s contract extension is a win-win for both player and team. It provides security and stability for Book, allowing him to focus on his development and growth as a player. At the same time, it gives the Saints a promising young quarterback to build their future around. With this new deal in place, both Book and the Saints can look forward to a bright future together.

  • What Does Ian Book’s New Contract Mean for the Team’s Salary Cap?

What Does Ian Book’s New Contract Mean for the Team’s Salary Cap?

Ian Book, the promising young quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, recently signed a new contract with the team. While the details of the contract have not been disclosed, it is safe to assume that Book’s new deal will have an impact on the team’s salary cap. So, what does Ian Book’s new contract mean for the team’s salary cap?

First and foremost, it is important to note that the salary cap is a limit on the amount of money that NFL teams can spend on player salaries in a given year. The salary cap is calculated based on the league’s revenue and is designed to promote competitive balance among teams.

When a player signs a new contract, his salary cap hit is calculated based on the average annual value of the contract. This means that Book’s new contract will likely increase the team’s salary cap hit for the upcoming season. Depending on the size of the contract, the increase in the team’s salary cap hit could impact the team’s ability to sign other players or make additional moves in free agency.

In addition to the immediate impact on the team’s salary cap, Book’s new contract could also have long-term implications. If Book’s contract is structured in a way that includes a large signing bonus or guaranteed money, the team may be on the hook for that money even if Book is no longer on the roster. This could limit the team’s flexibility in future years and could potentially hinder their ability to make other moves.

On the other hand, if Book’s contract is structured in a way that is team-friendly and includes incentives or performance-based bonuses, the team may be able to mitigate the impact on the salary cap and potentially even create additional cap space in future years.

Overall, Ian Book’s new contract will have a significant impact on the New Orleans Saints’ salary cap situation. While the exact details of the contract are not yet known, it is clear that the team will need to carefully manage their salary cap in order to remain competitive in the coming seasons. Only time will tell how Book’s new deal will ultimately affect the team’s salary cap situation, but one thing is certain – every move the team makes in regards to player contracts will have a ripple effect on their overall financial situation.
