Eagles sign Ian Book due to Jalen Hurts concussion, Kenny Pickett ribs

The Philadelphia Eagles have made a quick move to bolster their quarterback depth after Jalen Hurts suffered a concussion and Kenny Pickett injured his ribs. The team has signed former Notre Dame standout Ian Book to provide support behind backup quarterback Gardner Minshew.

Book, a dynamic playmaker with a strong arm and impressive mobility, will provide the Eagles with an experienced option at the quarterback position. The team is hopeful that Hurts and Pickett will recover quickly, but having Book in the mix will ensure that they have a capable signal-caller to rely on in the meantime.

Eagles fans are excited to see what Book can bring to the team and are hopeful that he can help lead the team to victory in their upcoming games. Stay tuned for updates on Book’s progress with the Eagles as they navigate through this challenging time at the quarterback position. #FlyEaglesFly #IanBook #NFLFreeAgency

The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly eyeing some additional depth at quarterback amid injuries to Jalen Hurts and Kenny Pickett.

Per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the team met with Ian Book on Wednesday. Hurts suffered a concussion on Sunday while his backup, Pickett suffered an injury to his ribs.

Book was a fourth-round draft pick in 2021 to the New Orleans Saints out of Notre Dame. His rookie season was the only year he saw regular season action, playing one game for the Saints and completing 12 of his 20 passes for 135 yards and three interceptions.

After being waived by the Saints in August 2022, he had his first stint with Philadelphia as the Eagles picked him for the 2022 season. He didn’t see any action during his sole season with the Eagles.

Book was briefly on the New England Patriots practice squad in 2023 and signed a future/reserve contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in January. Kansas City waived him in August.

With both Hurts and Pickett questionable for Sunday’s matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, Tanner McKee is the Eagles’ third-string option under center. McKee, a sixth-round draft pick in the 2023 draft, has yet to see any regular-season action in the NFL but could make his debut against the Cowboys if neither Hurts nor Pickett is ready to go.

Hurts suffered the concussion in the first quarter of last week’s matchup and was replaced by Pickett, who completed 14 of his 24 passes for 143 yards, a touchdown and an interception. It’s unclear when Pickett suffered his injury, but he received X-rays after the game.

Though the Eagles didn’t practice on Wednesday because of Christmas, Philadelphia estimated Hurts as a non-participant while Pickett was limited, per Pro Football Talk’s Charean Williams.

In the latest Eagles rumors, quarterback Ian Book has reportedly visited the team amid injuries to both Jalen Hurts and Kenny Pickett. With uncertainty surrounding the quarterback position, could Book be a potential solution for the Eagles?

Hurts suffered an ankle injury in the previous game, and Pickett has been dealing with a shoulder injury, leaving the Eagles with limited options at quarterback. Book, a former Notre Dame standout, has been a free agent since being released by the New Orleans Saints earlier this season.

Book’s visit to the Eagles could indicate that the team is exploring all options to address their quarterback situation. While Hurts and Pickett’s injuries are not believed to be season-ending, having a reliable backup like Book could provide insurance for the team moving forward.

Book, a former Notre Dame standout, was drafted in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints but was released earlier this year.

In a surprising turn of events, the Philadelphia Eagles have signed former Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book to a contract amid injuries to both Jalen Hurts and Kenny Pickett.

Hurts suffered a lower leg injury during the Eagles’ last game, and Pickett has been dealing with a shoulder injury for the past few weeks. With both quarterbacks sidelined, the Eagles turned to Book, who was a standout player at Notre Dame and impressed during his time in college.

Book will now have the opportunity to showcase his talents in the NFL and potentially earn a spot on the Eagles’ roster. It remains to be seen how he will perform in Hurts’ and Pickett’s absence, but fans are excited to see what he can bring to the table.

Eagles brought in QB Ian Book for a visit

With two quarterbacks dealing with injuries this week, the Eagles may be turning to a familiar face for some depth.

Via Mike Garafolo of NFL Media, free agent Ian Book visited with Philadelphia this week.

Book, 26, was with the Eagles in 2022. He has not been with a team since the Chiefs waived him in August.

A fourth-round pick in 2021, Book started one game for the Saints as a rookie. He completed 12-of-20 passes for 135 yards with two interceptions.

Philadelphia starting quarterback Jalen Hurts is dealing with a concussion and was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday. Backup Kenny Pickett was listed as limited with a ribs injury.

Tanner McKee is currently the only other quarterback on the club’s roster.

The Philadelphia Eagles are not wasting any time in their search for a new quarterback. Reports have surfaced that the Eagles recently brought in former Notre Dame QB Ian Book for a visit.

Book, who is coming off a successful college career at Notre Dame, is seen as a potential mid-round pick in the upcoming NFL draft. Known for his mobility and accuracy, Book could be a solid option for the Eagles as they look to add depth to their quarterback room.

While it’s unclear if the Eagles have serious interest in drafting Book, bringing him in for a visit shows that they are exploring all options in their search for a new signal-caller. With the NFL draft just around the corner, it will be interesting to see if the Eagles ultimately decide to pull the trigger on selecting Ian Book. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
