SOME WINTRY WEATHER MOVING ACROSS THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. SO HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS IN BRIEFLY THAT WILL LOCK IN THE COLD. AS THIS PRECIPITATION STARTS TO MOVE IN THE VALLEY MIDDAY TOMORROW. SO WE’LL STOP THE CLOCK HERE AT EIGHT. NOTICE WE’RE DRY, BUT BY LUNCHTIME, HERE COMES SOME PASSING LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS MAY SEE SOME SLEET PELLETS TRYING TO MIX IN AT TIMES. THE WORST OF THE STORM WILL BE FROM 5:00 TO MIDNIGHT. MOST LIKELY WE’LL SEE SLEET SWITCHING OVER TO FREEZING RAIN AND THEN THE CENTER OF THE STORM MOVES OVERHEAD AFTER MIDNIGHT. AND THEN AS IT PUSHES OFF TO THE EAST, THAT WILL SHUT DOWN THE PRECIPITATION AND WE DRY BACK OUT. HEADING INTO SUPER BOWL SUNDAY. SO FROM 1 TO 5:00 THAT SNOW STARTS TO DEVELOP WITH TEMPERATURES NEAR FREEZING. COULD SEE A LIGHT COATING AND SOME SLUSH ON THE GROUND. AGAIN, THE BULK OF THE STORM IS BETWEEN 5:00 AND MIDNIGHT, WITH THAT SLEET SWITCHING OVER TO MOSTLY FREEZING RAIN AND ICING OVER THE ROADWAYS. THINGS START TO WIND DOWN BETWEEN 12 A.M. AND 4 A.M. AS THAT FREEZING RAIN TAPERS, BUT WE’LL STILL HAVE SLICK OR ICY TRAVEL. AND THEN ON SUNDAY, CLOUDY AND BREEZY OUT THERE. BUT YOU GOT TO WATCH FOR SOME LINGERING BLACK ICE AS TEMPERATURES SLOWLY RISE. HOW MUCH FREEZING RAIN? A LIGHT GLAZE UP TO ABOUT A 10TH OF AN INCH OF ICE, BUT THERE COULD BE SOME ISOLATED HIGHER TOTALS, UPWARDS OF A QUARTER OF AN INCH OF ICE GOING THROUGH LATE SATURDAY EVENING AND SATURDAY NIGHT. NOW, BY THE TIME WE MAKE IT TO NOON ON SUNDAY, WE’RE DRYING BACK OUT. SO IF YOU HAVE ANY TRAVEL PLANS FOR THE SUPER BOWL O

  • With Alperen Sengun sidelined, Rockets go ice cold late in blowing lead at Memphis

The Rockets wrapped up a four-game road trip with Thursday’s disappointing 120-119 loss (box score) to the Grizzlies at FedExForum in Memphis. With All-Star center Alperen Sengun (left calf contusion) sidelined, Houston led by eight midway through the fourth quarter but couldn’t generate offense down the stretch, scoring just four points in the final six minutes.

It was a potentially important battle in a race for the No. 2 spot in the Western Conference standings, though Houston (32-15) does have the tiebreaker over Memphis (32-16) thanks to winning the first three games of their four-game season series. Thursday’s game was the finale.

With the Rockets up by a point and under 10 seconds to play, All-Star forward Jaren Jackson Jr. fouled out Houston’s Dillon Brooks on a drive and hit two go-ahead free throws. Rockets veteran Fred VanVleet then misfired on his attempt at a potential winning 3-pointer.

    Key statistical lines included:

    • Jalen Green: 25 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists; 5-of-10 on 3-pointers (50.0%), 4-of-5 on free throws (80.0%)

    • Steven Adams: 11 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists in 23 minutes; 4-of-9 shooting (44.4%)

    • Amen Thompson: 21 points, 7 rebounds, 4 blocks, 4 assists; 7-of-15 shooting (46.7%), 7-of-9 on free throws (77.8%)

    • Dillon Brooks: 22 points, 9-of-17 shooting, 3-of-7 on 3-pointers (42.9%), 6 fouls

    • Tari Eason: 13 points, 12 rebounds; 6-of-12 shooting (50.0%)

    • Fred VanVleet: 13 points, 5 assists; 4-of-12 shooting (33.3%), 2-of-8 on 3-pointers (25.0%)

    • Desmond Bane (Grizzlies): 24 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists; 11-of-24 shooting (45.8%)

    • Jaren Jackson Jr. (Grizzlies): 21 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds; 7-of-15 shooting (46.7%), 6-of-7 on free throws (85.7%)

    • Luke Kennard (Grizzlies): 22 points, 2 steals; 9-of-15 shooting (60.0%), 3-of-6 on 3-pointers (50.0%)

Thursday’s game was disjointed at times, with Sengun and Grizzlies star Ja Morant (shoulder) each sidelined by minor injuries. For Houston, Jabari Smith Jr. (left hand fracture) remains out of the lineup, as well.

“We need to be able to put teams away when we have the lead,” said Green, via Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle. “We do a really good job with getting up and then somehow lose the lead. I don’t know if we get comfortable or just out there and they play harder than us.”

Brooks pointed to excessive turnovers. While Houston only had 12 for the game (compared to 11 for Memphis), some of those came in key moments, including one by VanVleet with the Rockets holding a slim lead and just over a minute left to play.

The Rockets had their four-game winning streak snapped with the loss, which finished their road trip at 3-1.

More: Modern NBA iron man? In win at Atlanta, Jalen Green starts 150th straight game for Rockets

This article originally appeared on Rockets Wire: In blowing lead at Memphis, Alperen Sengun-less Rockets go cold late

The Houston Rockets faced a tough loss on Monday night as they blew a late lead against the Memphis Grizzlies, falling 115-112. With rising star Alperen Sengun sidelined due to injury, the Rockets struggled to maintain their momentum in the fourth quarter, ultimately allowing the Grizzlies to come from behind and secure the victory.

Sengun, who has been a key player for the Rockets this season, was sorely missed as the team faltered down the stretch. Despite strong performances from Jalen Green and Christian Wood, the Rockets were unable to close out the game and secure the win.

The loss serves as a reminder of the importance of depth and resilience in the NBA, as injuries can have a significant impact on a team’s performance. As the Rockets look to bounce back from this defeat, they will need to regroup and find ways to overcome adversity in order to continue their development as a young and promising squad.

  • ICE conducts Lowcountry sweeps, arrest alleged gang members in Goose Creek

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and Homeland Security Investigations agents from Charlotte conducted sweeps in the Lowcountry Friday, locating and arresting individuals they say are “illegal criminal aliens.”

Though law enforcement reports from these arrests have not yet been released, Enforcement and Removal Operations’ Atlanta posted on ‘X’ stating that they were assisting agents in Charleston. The agency said they arrested undocumented migrants who are members of the gang Tren de Aragua and were dealing fentanyl.

Rep. Nancy Mace said she was on a ride-along with ICE in the Lowcountry today, however, it is unclear which locations she visited. According to Mace, the alleged Tren de Aragua gang members were arrested in Goose Creek.

“The criminal illegal alien ICE apprehended this morning was staying in my hometown of Goose Creek. They’re everywhere. They’re dangerous. And they need to be deported,” Mace stated in a post she made to ‘X’.

News 4 contacted multiple local law enforcement agencies for comment including the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, Goose Creek Police Department and ICE.

“The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office collaboratively works with our local, state and federal partners on a daily basis to keep the citizens of Dorchester County,” The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “We have nothing further to add at this time.”

The Goose Creek Police Department was not given advanced notification of the raid, Chief LJ Roscoe said in a statement.

“It was reported to me, after the fact, that ICE was at the location serving a warrant. The Goose Creek Police Department was not given information in advance that ICE was going to be at the address, however, we were notified once they needed help,” Roscoe said. “They resolved the issue prior to our arrival, so no one from Goose Creek Police Department was involved or on scene.”

Immigration enforcement has been a primary objective of President Donald Trump’s second administration. Since taking office, Trump has carried out 21 executive actions to overhaul the U.S. immigration system.

The Trump administration is demanding at least 1,800 arrests per day from ICE — setting a quota of 75 busts minimum for each of the agency’s 25 offices, according to reports from the New York Post.

His predecessor Joe Biden carried out an average of 311 immigration deportations daily, according to ICE, mostly individuals who had committed crimes.

It was reported on Jan. 27 that Immigration authorities made close to 1,200 arrests in just one day with nearly half of those detained not possessing criminal records, meaning several people were arrested for only lacking legal authorization to remain in the United States.

Being undocumented is considered a civil offense, not a crime. But it’s considered a crime when an undocumented immigrant who was previously deported re-enters the United States without permission.

“We’re not just talking about deporting illegal aliens — we’re out here seeing it in action for ourselves – firsthand,” Mace said in a post on social media. “South Carolina needs bold leadership to support President Trump’s America First agenda deporting the bad guys and putting our people first.”

ICE, or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, recently conducted sweeps in the Lowcountry area, specifically in Goose Creek, resulting in the arrest of several alleged gang members.

The operation targeted individuals who were believed to be affiliated with dangerous criminal gangs and involved in illegal activities. ICE agents worked closely with local law enforcement to identify and apprehend these individuals.

While ICE’s actions aim to enhance public safety and remove criminal elements from the community, the arrests have sparked controversy and debate over the agency’s tactics and the impact on immigrant communities.

Critics argue that the sweeps have instilled fear and uncertainty among immigrant populations, regardless of their involvement in criminal activities. They also raise concerns about racial profiling and the potential for civil rights violations during these operations.

On the other hand, supporters of ICE’s efforts point to the importance of cracking down on gang-related crime and protecting communities from violence and exploitation. They argue that law enforcement agencies have a responsibility to uphold the law and ensure public safety, regardless of individuals’ immigration status.

The arrests in Goose Creek serve as a reminder of the complex and contentious issues surrounding immigration enforcement and the role of federal agencies like ICE in local communities. As the debate continues, it is crucial to consider the implications of these actions on individuals and families caught up in the crossfire of immigration enforcement efforts.

  • ICE conducts Goose Creek operation, police say they were not informed

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCSC) – A Lowcountry neighborhood woke up Friday morning to United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents serving warrants in the area.

Goose Creek Police Chief LJ Roscoe confirmed that these agents went to the 100 block of Brick Greens Road before 8 a.m. Friday.

“It was reported to me, after the fact, that ICE was at the location serving a warrant. The Goose Creek Police Department was not given information in advance that ICE was going to be at the address, however we were notified once they needed help,” Roscoe said. “They resolved the issue prior to our arrival, so no one from Goose Creek Police Department was involved or on scene.”

Roscoe also claims ICE failed to notify the department that it would be in the jurisdiction of the Goose Creek Police Department to carry out warrants.

A representative of ICE “did try to tell me that they notified us in advance, however after looking into it, I found that they in fact never called Goose Creek Police Department,” according to Roscoe.

Witness video shows ICE agents handcuffing people, with one of them appearing to film the incident on his cellphone.

Representatives for ICE have not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter.

South Carolina Congresswoman Nancy Mace posted to X that she would be “out with ICE” Friday morning. It is unclear if she was present during this specific operation.

Recently, ICE conducted an operation in Goose Creek, catching many residents and local officials by surprise. The police department in Goose Creek has stated that they were not informed about the operation beforehand, leading to confusion and frustration among the community.

The operation reportedly targeted individuals suspected of being in the country illegally, resulting in several arrests. Many residents have expressed concern over the lack of communication between ICE and local law enforcement, as well as the potential impact on families and businesses in the area.

The Goose Creek police department has vowed to work with federal agencies to ensure better communication in the future, in order to prevent similar situations from occurring. In the meantime, residents are urged to stay informed and educated on their rights and resources available to them in the event of an ICE operation.

Overall, the unexpected ICE operation in Goose Creek has sparked a debate on immigration policies and procedures, highlighting the need for improved communication and cooperation between federal and local authorities.

  • 3 Lions on Thin Ice With John Morton as Offensive Coordinator

The Detroit Lions established themselves as one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL in the past two years. But with Ben Johnson’s departure to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears, it represents a new era under new offensive coordinator John Morton.

Morton isn’t completely unfamiliar with the Lions as he worked with Johnson as an offensive consultant during the 2022 season. His offense is also similar to the one he oversaw as the Denver Broncos passing game coordinator last season.

The Athletic’s Colton Pouncy highlighted that Morton’s offense highlights a tendency to throw the ball downfield and create balance with a mix of play-action. While those strengths may create opportunities for some on Detroit’s roster, it may also put other players on thin ice as Morton takes over next season.

The Lions added some veteran experience to their roster toward the end of training camp when they signed Allen Robinson II and Tim Patrick to the practice squad. Robinson had the name recognition as a former Pro Bowler but it was Patrick who took off and carved out a role on the active roster, catching 33 passes for 394 yards and three touchdowns.

If the Lions are deciding between Patrick and Robinson for a spot on next year’s roster, Patrick’s previous experience working with Morton as a member of the Broncos could help him out. But Patrick could also have an advantage based on what Pouncy said about Morton’s desire to push the ball downfield.

“If you look at the Broncos offense in 2024, you’ll find a few clues,” Pouncy wrote. “Of Denver’s pass attempts last season, 22.3 percent of them traveled 15 or more air yards and 13 percent traveled 20 or more air yards per TruMedia. Both of those marks were the ninth-highest in the NFL.

“As for the Lions, just 18.5 percent of Detroit’s pass attempts traveled 15 or more air yards (25th in the NFL) and only eight percent traveled 20 or more air yards.”

Pouncy mentioned that good coaching staffs adapt to their talent, meaning the screens that David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs thrived on and the short passes that fueled Amon-Ra St. Brown probably aren’t going anywhere. But it could be more relevant when it comes to which receivers stick on the roster.

With St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Kalif Raymond as locks heading into next season, Patrick and Robinson could be battling for a spot. While Patrick averaged an average depth of target (aDOT) of 11.6 yards, Robinson only managed 7.3. Patrick also had an advantage in yards per route run with 1.15 compared to Robinson’s 0.71.

It could signal the end for Robinson’s once promising career and have him losing his job to Patrick or a draft pick this spring.

The Detroit Lions have found themselves in a precarious position with John Morton as their offensive coordinator. As the team navigates through a challenging season, they are facing mounting pressure to turn things around before it’s too late.

Morton, a seasoned coach with a proven track record, was brought on board to revamp the Lions’ offense and bring a new level of creativity and efficiency to the team. However, so far, the results have been less than stellar.

With only three wins under their belt and a struggling offense that ranks near the bottom of the league in several key categories, the Lions are skating on thin ice. The pressure is on Morton to find a way to ignite the team and get them back on track before it’s too late.

As the Lions prepare for a crucial stretch of games that could make or break their season, all eyes will be on Morton and his ability to lead the offense to success. Can he turn things around and help the Lions claw their way back into playoff contention? Only time will tell. Stay tuned as the drama unfolds in Detroit.

  • Lompoc protesters rallying against ICE to make their voices heard

LOMPOC, Calif. – As ICE agents continue operations in Hispanic neighborhoods across the Central Coast, community members are mobilizing in protest against the agency. Rallies are planned in multiple locations, including Lompoc and Santa Barbara, as concerns grow over recent immigration enforcement actions.

ICE sightings have been reported in San Luis Obispo, Lompoc, Santa Barbara, Goleta, and Oxnard within the past week. These sightings have fueled a wave of protests, with residents demanding change and voicing their opposition to ongoing deportation efforts.

Protests against ICE have been ongoing across the county since President Trump issued an order to remove and deport undocumented immigrants from the United States. In response, demonstrators are taking to the streets to challenge the enforcement actions and advocate for immigrant rights.

One protest is scheduled for this afternoon at 5:00 p.m. at the Milpas Roundabout in Santa Barbara.

Another demonstration will take place in Lompoc at 9:00 a.m. and will continue throughout the weekend until Sunday. Organizers emphasize that their goal is to make their voices heard and support those who fear speaking out due to the risk of ICE raids.

Protest organizer Alexia Miranda shared her motivation for participating by saying, “I thought it would be a good idea to have our voices heard. I know there are many people who are too scared to speak out due to fear of ICE raids. I want to be a voice for those in my community, especially with my Mexican background.”

Supporter Andrea Pelagio echoed the sentiment stating, “It’s not about people having papers. It’s not about people being here legally right now. It’s about human life—people being removed from their work, their livelihood. People are just trying to live and have better opportunities.”

On Thursday, Congresswoman Julia Brownley addressed the situation, demanding greater transparency from ICE. She acknowledged the agency’s role in national security but expressed concerns over recent enforcement operations.

Meanwhile, public opinion remains divided. A recent Reuters poll found that 48% of Americans approve of President Trump’s immigration policies, while 41% disapprove.

Lompoc protesters rally against ICE to make their voices heard

In a show of solidarity and resistance, residents of Lompoc gathered outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office to protest the agency’s controversial practices. Chanting slogans and holding up signs that read “No human is illegal” and “Families belong together,” the protesters made their voices heard loud and clear.

Many of the demonstrators expressed outrage over ICE’s treatment of undocumented immigrants, citing reports of inhumane conditions in detention centers and the separation of families at the border. They called for an end to ICE raids and deportations, and demanded that the agency be held accountable for its actions.

Local activists and community leaders spoke at the rally, urging their fellow residents to stand up against injustice and support immigrant rights. They emphasized the importance of solidarity and compassion in the face of adversity, and encouraged everyone to take action to create a more just and inclusive society.

The protest drew a diverse crowd of supporters, including students, families, and concerned citizens from all walks of life. As the sun set on the peaceful gathering, the message was clear: Lompoc stands united against ICE and in support of immigrant communities everywhere.

  • Larry Krasner says local police can’t be forced by ICE to comply with the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said Friday that local elected officials and law enforcement cannot be forced to comply with the Trump administration’s “Nazi stuff,” referring to the president’s planned crackdown on immigration.

“Local law enforcement can volunteer to do Nazi stuff,” Krasner, a Democrat, said. “I’m sure I stand with all my colleagues up here when we say nope, N-O-P-E, nope. Maybe there are some local law enforcement who want to put on jackboots and gray uniforms and march behind this, but not us.”

The comment came during a news conference Friday at Philadelphia City Hall where state representatives and City Council members condemned President Donald Trump’s actions on immigration, including rescinding guidance that once barred federal agents from entering churches, schools, and hospitals. Reports of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity have reverberated around the Philadelphia area since Trump took office, heightening anxieties for immigrant communities. Earlier this week, ICE agents raided a North Philadelphia car wash, arresting seven people and triggering a protest.

Officials on Friday aimed to make the public aware of Philadelphia’s intentions to protect its immigrant communities in the sanctuary city.

Krasner, who has long positioned himself as and campaigned on being a staunch adversary to Trump, is expected to launch his reelection bid for a third term as DA in the coming weeks. Earlier this month, former Philadelphia Judge Patrick Dugan announced his bid to challenge Krasner.

Krasner said the basis of local officials’ noncompliance with federal orders is supported by the Anti-Commandeering Doctrine, which is based on the Tenth Amendment and says “the federal government cannot require states or state officials to adopt or enforce federal law,” according to SCOTUSBlog.

A memo from Trump’s Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove, published in various news outlets last week, threatened consequences for local officials who do not cooperate with Trump’s plans to crack down on immigration, adding that local officials are legally bound to cooperate with the U.S. Department of Justice based on the Constitution’s supremacy clause.

In light of that memo, Krasner said he and his staff would not comply with any immigration orders that break the law.

He expressed a similar sentiment Friday, also acknowledging that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement “is going to do what it is legally and constitutionally entitled to do.

”As a law enforcement officer, we would not interfere with that,” Krasner said.

But Krasner added that his office will not hold back from prosecuting ICE agents in Philadelphia for doing “criminal things that go beyond their rights.”

“Any ICE agent, any Proud Boy who thinks hate crimes are cool, thinks ‘I can get away with anything because there’s a king in D.C.?’ No, you can’t. That’s not how it’s going to work,” Krasner said.

“If you are so inclined to break the law to harm immigrants … if you are inclined to use them as your scapegoat, harm them, be cruel to them, you better do it within the law, and if you don’t, try me.”

Larry Krasner, the District Attorney of Philadelphia, has made it clear that local police cannot be forced by ICE to comply with the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown. Krasner, known for his progressive stance on criminal justice reform, stands firm in his belief that local law enforcement should not be used as a tool for federal immigration enforcement.

In a recent statement, Krasner emphasized that the primary role of local police is to protect and serve their communities, not to enforce federal immigration laws. He stressed that forcing local police to collaborate with ICE undermines the trust between law enforcement and immigrant communities, making it harder for police to effectively do their jobs.

Krasner’s stance is in line with many other progressive prosecutors across the country who have pushed back against the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration policies. By standing up for the rights of all members of the community, regardless of their immigration status, Krasner is sending a powerful message about the importance of inclusivity and justice for all.

Most ground vanilla powder on the market is made from “exhausted” beans – meaning they were used to make extract, dried, and then ground into powder after all flavors have been taken out. WE DO NOT participate in that practice and only offer the finest in whole ground vanilla powder!
Fine grind on this powder. Passed through an 80 mesh to remove particles – makes for a smoother blend and avoids (chewy) pieces in recipes. This will not dissolve in water.
Madagascar Vanilla adds a wonderfully sweet and rich aroma, elevating the flavor of your favorite beverage.
Ideal for uses in hot tea and coffee, homemade ice cream, and vanilla bean cheesecake!
Fully guaranteed for quality and purity. We hold ourselves to the highest standards because of our passion for all things vanilla.

    Customers say

Customers appreciate the product’s taste, scent, and quality. They mention it adds flavor without adding extra moisture, has a nice fragrance, and is a great powdered vanilla. Many find it pure and not gritty. The price is also appreciated.
