Watch X-Men’s Storm join the MCU in ‘What If…?’ (exclusive)

It’s time to meet Marvel‘s new Goddess of Thunder.

X-Men’s Storm is making her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Saturday’s episode of What If…?, and Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive first look at the new wielder of Mjolnir after she was teased in the season 3 trailer.

The fan-favorite character is once again voiced by Alison Sealy-Smith, who has played Ororo Munroe a.k.a. Storm in X-Men: The Animated Series and Disney+’s revival X-Men ’97, as well as Spider-Man: The Animated Series.

The exclusive clip (above) reveals the MCU’s version of Storm works side-by-side with Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell) on a team with Kahhori (Devery Jacobs), a powerful Mohawk woman who was introduced last season, and Byrdie (Natasha Lyonne), a new character who makes her debut in this episode as well.

While Byrdie and Kahhori play a hilarious game of Avengers foosball (“Nobody snaps like Thanos!”), Captain Carter and Storm have a very serious meeting about a new threat facing all of reality. “We are looking at broken pieces of the fifth dimension itself,” Captain Carter realizes. “The last time something like this rained down on the multiverse — ”

“Infinity Ultron blasted through the observational plane and nearly destroyed all of existence,” Storm says.

What If…? has been leading up to this moment all season long, as Uatu the Watcher (Jeffrey Wright) disappears in Saturday’s appropriately-titled episode, “What If… the Watcher Disappeared?”, due to his recent meddling in the lives of his favorite heroes. In Thursday’s episode, “What If… the Emergence Destroyed the Earth?”, three other Watchers began spying on Uatu as a result of him saving Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) from succumbing to her fatal destiny. Now, it’s up to Storm, Captain Carter, Kahhori, and Byrdie to save him … and the rest of the multiverse.

Marvel TV boss Brad Winderbaum previously told EW that the final season of the creative brainstorming exercise — a.k.a. the wildly inventive and at times unhinged (in the best way!) animated series — will end in a “very bittersweet” and “melancholy” way. “For now it is, I think, a beautiful way to end this era and to culminate the story of the Watcher,” he said. “The ending is both happy and sad.”

The Disney+ MCU anthology series debuts new episodes daily until the series finale on Dec. 29.

Exciting news for Marvel fans! The popular X-Men character Storm is set to make her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming animated series ‘What If…?’

Fans have been eagerly awaiting Storm’s introduction into the MCU, and now they will finally get to see her in action in this alternate reality series. The character, known for her weather-manipulating powers and strong leadership skills, is sure to make a big impact in the Marvel universe.

Stay tuned for more updates on Storm’s debut in ‘What If…?’ and get ready to see this iconic X-Men character in a whole new light. Don’t miss out on this exclusive opportunity to see Storm join the MCU in ‘What If…?’!

  • Marvel’s What If…? Season 3 Premiere Review

    Marvel’s What If…? Season 3 Premiere Review

Note: this is a spoiler-free advance review of Marvel’s What If…? Season 3, Episode 1, which premieres on Disney+ on Sunday, December 22.

The second season of Marvel’s What If…? was truly a mixed bag, suffering from an overemphasis on Hayley Atwell’s Agent Carter and a season finale payoff that felt underwhelming at best. Fortunately, Season 3 starts off by giving us exactly what’s needed – a strong palate cleanser. It’s hard to go wrong with the giant mecha vs. kaiju formula.

Dubbed “What If… the Hulk Fought the Mech Avengers?”, the premiere takes place in a world where Hulk’s attempt to cure himself of his gamma affliction has major unintended consequences for humanity. Borrowing liberally from franchises like Godzilla, Pacific Rim, and Voltron, this episode ups the scope of the series considerably and allows for some truly titanic battles between radioactive super-monsters and Avengers piloting giant robo-suits. The series has always been devoted to showing us situations and plot twists that could never happen in the regular MCU. Sometimes it succeeds more than others, but this is one case where it definitely makes the most of the alternate timeline premise.

Granted, like most What If…? episodes, the limited runtime becomes a bit constraining. The plot is nothing if not straightforward and predictable, and viewers will be able to easily call the major plot beats well in advance. But to its credit, this episode does find a solid emotional throughline to anchor all the larger-than-life spectacle. This scenario hinges on the friendship between Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner, hearkening back to Sam’s role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier as a counselor to wounded warriors. Their bond helps give the episode some emotional heft, and actually left me wishing something similar existed in Earth-616. The MCU lost something with the transition to a smarter, more well-adjusted Hulk in Endgame.

Another strength of this episode is in how it makes use of the larger Avengers roster. Rather than focus on the classic Phase 1 and 2-era Avengers, the premiere instead emphasizes more recent, post-Endgame MCU players. It gives us a valuable chance to see how characters like Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi, Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau, and even Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight interact. Because, well, it’s not as if the live-action movies have been in any hurry to get us to that point. It all makes for a much more novel viewing experience. And with most of the live-action actors reprising their roles here, the team banter has that necessary air of authenticity. Isaac in particular is a lot of fun here, making it all the more unfortunate the series hasn’t really focused on Moon Knight up till now.

Visually, this is probably the most memorable What If…? episode since the Season 2 premiere, the neo-noir-themed “What If… Nebula Joined the Nova Corps?” The sheer scale of the action and the varied designs of the Mech Avengers ensure there’s rarely a dull moment. The action is smooth and does a fine job of channeling the various anime shows and movies that have clearly inspired this episode. There’s even a delightful opening segment that pays homage to classic ‘80s anime, one that I only wish lasted longer than it does.

    Marvel’s What If…? Season 3 Premiere Review

The highly anticipated third season of Marvel’s What If…? has finally premiered, and fans are already buzzing about the exciting new alternate realities and twists on familiar stories. The first episode of the season, titled “What If… The Avengers Were Zombies?,” certainly did not disappoint.

In this episode, we see an alternate universe where a zombie virus has swept through the Avengers, turning them into flesh-eating creatures. The story follows a group of survivors, including Spider-Man and Hope Van Dyne, as they try to navigate this horrifying new world and find a way to reverse the effects of the virus.

The animation in this episode is top-notch, with detailed character designs and gruesome zombie effects that will send shivers down your spine. The voice acting is also stellar, with many familiar voices reprising their roles from the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe.

But what truly sets this episode apart is its emotional depth and character development. We see familiar heroes like Iron Man and Captain America grappling with their newfound monstrous nature, adding layers of complexity to their characters that we’ve never seen before.

Overall, the season 3 premiere of Marvel’s What If…? is a thrilling and thought-provoking start to what promises to be another fantastic season. Fans of the series and the larger Marvel universe will not want to miss this exciting new chapter in the What If…? saga.
