Steelers inactives for Week 18 vs. Bengals

The Steelers go into tonight’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals a relatively healthy team, but at Week 18, no team is truly healthy.

Cornerback Donte Jackson is inactive after landing back on the injury report this week with his back injury.

Jackson missed the Week 16 game against the Ravens with the back injury but returned for the Christmas Day game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Jackson said he had a ‘set back’ in practice this week.

While the secondary will be without Jackson, fellow cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is returning to the field. Porter missed the Chiefs game with a knee injury but is good to go against the Bengals.

“I wanted to get out there as soon as possible,” said Porter after practice on Thursday. “I’m back now. I’m healthy. I feel good. So, I’m ready to play,”

When he is out there on the field, he expects to see a lot of Bengals receiver Tee Higgins. In the Week 13 meeting, Higgins had five receptions for 69 yards and a touchdown.

“Yeah, definitely going to see Higgins again,” said Porter. “I think overall he’s a good receiver. He’s got a lot of good qualities in his game that I like. He can go attack the ball, he’s pretty fast, so it’s going to be a good matchup.

“They’re just clicking. They’ve got Joe Burrow, a great quarterback, and they’ve got some good talent on the outside. They’re just clicking, spreading the ball around and really just catching balls and making plays.

“I feel like they’ve got a good group over there, and it’s always good to go against great talent and show my skills. I’m ready for this game and I’m prepared for it.”

Porter knows the entire defense is prepared as well, ready to wash away the feeling from losing the last three games and get on the right path heading into the postseason.

“I feel like we all want to get rid of that bad taste,” said Porter. “Going into this, this is a very personal game for all of us. We’re taking the game very seriously, like every weekend.

“We are just trying to show everybody that we know how to play defense still.”

The full list of inactives is below.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced their inactives for their Week 18 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. Here is the list of players who will not be suiting up for today’s game:

    1. QB Ben Roethlisberger
    2. RB Najee Harris
    3. WR Diontae Johnson
    4. TE Pat Freiermuth
    5. OL Kevin Dotson
    6. DL Cam Heyward
    7. LB T.J. Watt

These inactives are a big blow to the Steelers as they look to secure a playoff spot with a win over their division rivals. It will be interesting to see how the team adjusts without some key playmakers on the field. Stay tuned for updates on the game. #HereWeGo #SteelersNation

  • Teddy Bridgewater to be Lions’ emergency QB; here are the inactives

Teddy Bridgewater to be Lions’ emergency QB; here are the inactives

Santa Clara, Calif. — The Detroit Lions didn’t have any surprise names pop up on the inactives report prior to taking on the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football in Santa Clara.

Aside from running back David Montgomery (knee), the Lions didn’t have an ailing player listed on the pregame inactives report. Backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was made inactive but will serve as the team’s emergency quarterback, meaning Hendon Hooker will be in line to enter the game if Lions starter Jared Goff is forced to exit the game.

Teddy Bridgewater is the emergency third quarterback for the Lions' matchup against San Francisco.

The 49ers will be without cornerback Charvarius Ward and linebacker Dre Greenlaw for the primetime showdown.

Also inactive for Detroit: Offensive linemen Giovanni Manu, Kayode Awosika and Colby Sorsdal and defensive linemen Jonah Williams and Brodric Martin. The Lions will have cornerback Emmanuel Moseley in the lineup for the second game in a row.

    nbianchi@detroitnews.com

    @nolanbianchi

The Detroit Lions have announced that quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will serve as the team’s emergency quarterback for their upcoming game. With starting QB Jared Goff dealing with an injury, Bridgewater will be ready to step in if needed.

In addition to Bridgewater being activated as the emergency QB, the Lions have also announced their inactives for the game. The following players will not be suiting up:

    1. WR Tyrell Williams
    2. TE T.J. Hockenson
    3. CB Jeff Okudah
    4. LB Trey Flowers
    5. OL Frank Ragnow

Despite these key players being sidelined, the Lions are confident in their depth and ability to compete in the game. Stay tuned for updates on Bridgewater’s potential role and any further developments in the matchup. #OnePride

  • Lions Week 17 inactives: Who’s in and who’s out vs. 49ers

Lions Week 17 inactives: Who’s in and who’s out vs. 49ers

The Detroit Lions (13-2) have declared their inactives ahead of the Week 17 “Monday Night Football” matchup with the San Francisco 49ers (6-9).

One of the more interesting moves the Lions made this past week was to re-sign quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Not only does Bridgewater give the Lions valuable veteran depth at the most important position on the football field, as well as a positive leader in the locker room, he also gives the Lions the ability to utilize the “emergency third quarterback rule”— a rule change that was proposed by the Lions and adopted into the NFL in 2023.

Basically, the rule allows NFL teams with three quarterbacks on the active roster (like the Lions) to designate one of them as the “emergency quarterback” and that player will count toward the team’s inactives list for the game. The player listed as the “emergency quarterback” is only eligible to play, in a situation where both “game-day active quarterbacks” were ruled unavailable due to injury. If it seems like a rule teams would rarely put into practice, you’d be correct, but it has happened before, the most recent case being (ironically) the 49ers in the 2023 playoffs.

So for tonight’s game, and likely the upcoming playoffs, look for the Lions to designate an “emergency third quarterback,” as a just-in-case backup plan.

If you missed moves, or need a refresher, make sure and check out our updated depth chart, with position-by-position rankings as well as a visual overview.

For this week’s game, because the Lions have eight offensive linemen active for Sunday’s game, they are eligible to expand their game-day roster from 47 to 48 players. Therefore, with 55 players on the game-day roster and 48 eligible to play, the Lions need to declare just seven players inactive for today’s matchup.

    Lions inactives:

    • QB Teddy Bridgewater — Emergency third quarterback
    • RB David Montgomery (knee) — Ruled OUT Saturday
    • OG Kayode Awosika
    • OL Colby Sorsdal
    • OL Giovanni Manu
    • DL Brodric Martin
    • DL Jonah Williams

    49ers inactives:

    • QB Brandon Allen
    • RB Israel Abanikanda
    • OL Spencer Burford (calf)
    • DL Khalil Davis
    • EDGE Robert Beal (ankle)
    • LB Dre Greenlaw (calf)
    • CB Charvarius Ward (personal)

The Detroit Lions are gearing up for their Week 17 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, and the team has announced their inactives for the game.

Out for the Lions are cornerback Jeff Okudah, linebacker Jahlani Tavai, defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand, and wide receiver Quintez Cephus.

In for the Lions are running back D’Andre Swift, wide receiver Kenny Golladay, and linebacker Jamie Collins.

It will be interesting to see how the Lions fare without some key players, but with Swift and Golladay back in the lineup, they have a chance to finish the season strong. Stay tuned for updates on the game.

The San Francisco 49ers will look to at least a couple newly signed and younger players to help carry the offensive line in Week 17. Injuries over the course of the second half of the season have resulted in left guard Aaron Banks (knee) and left tackles Trent Williams (ankle) and Jaylon Moore (quad) landing on the Injured Reserve list while swing offensive lineman Spencer Burford battles a calf injury. There was, however, some good news on the injury front ahead of gameday. Despite sitting out for most the week with a knee injury, right tackle Colton McKivitz will be active for the “Monday Night Football” matchup.

San Francisco recently signed offensive linemen Austen Pleasants and Charlie Heck, both of whom will suit up against the Lions. For additional reinforcement, Drake Nugent was elevated from the practice squad on Monday afternoon.

On the other side of the ball, safety Ji’Ayir Brown was also given the green light to play in San Francisco’s final home game of the year.

Exciting News for 49ers Fans: OL Colton McKivitz and S Ji’Ayir Brown Active for Week 17 vs. Lions; Inactives for #DETvsSF

The San Francisco 49ers have announced that offensive lineman Colton McKivitz and safety Ji’Ayir Brown will be active for their Week 17 matchup against the Detroit Lions. This is great news for the team as they look to finish the season strong and secure a playoff spot.

McKivitz, a versatile lineman who can play both guard and tackle, will provide valuable depth and support for the 49ers’ offensive line. Brown, a promising young safety, will add depth to the secondary and provide additional playmaking ability on defense.

In addition to McKivitz and Brown being active, the 49ers have also announced their inactives for the game. Stay tuned for updates on which players will be sitting out of the #DETvsSF matchup.

With McKivitz and Brown suiting up for the game, the 49ers are in a strong position to come out on top against the Lions and secure a crucial win in their playoff push. Stay tuned for more updates and analysis as the game unfolds. #GoNiners #49ersFaithful

Washington Commanders vs Atlanta Falcons Inactives

The Washington Commanders released their final injury report for today’s game on Friday, and they ruled five players out. Washington also made several roster moves yesterday, waiving former 2nd round pick, DT Phidarian Mathis, and activating DT Jonathan Allen from injured reserve. Washington elevated CB Kevon Seymour and WR Brycen Tremayne from the practice squad, and both are active for special teams/depth.

CB Marshon Lattimore, WR Dyami Brown, and rookie LB Jordan Magee were all ruled out with hamstring injuries from the Eagles game. RT Andrew Wylie also suffered a groin injury, and UDFA S Tyler Owens is out with an ankle injury.

Washington had two players listed as questionable for tonight’s game, but removed their injury designations yesterday. Jonathan Allen was a full participant in practice all week, and was only listed with an injury designation for the game because he was still on IR. Washington has been elevating Carl Davis from the practice squad over Phidarian Mathis, but he is out of elevations, and Allen has returned to the lineup.

Backup QB Marcus Mariota missed the team’s only full practices of the week due to personal reasons, but is good to go if needed tonight. Jeff Driskel maintains his emergency third QB status.

K.J. Osborn makes his debut for Washington this week. S Darrick Forrest gets another week where he’s active, and G Chris Paul is active again. Rookie LB Dominique Hampton is still the lone player to be inactive every game.

  • New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills Game Inactives

New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills Game Inactives

The new year is almost upon us, and in the NFL that has several possible meanings.

For the Jets, this is the time on the calendar for them to wrap up a disappointing season with a season-ending two-game division bloc, beginning at Buffalo Sunday and finishing at home against Miami next week.

The opponents will be tough, beginning with the Bills (12-3), who can’t take the AFC’s No. 1 playoff seed away from Kansas City but can secure the second seed with a strong finish to their strong season.

And this is the time, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich says, for the character of the 4-11 Jets to ring like a bell.

“Adversity’s a gift because it really reveals people’s true identity, their true character,” Ulbrich said this past week. “In moments like this, it’s a really opportune time to look around and see how people respond. And that’s why I’m so confident we’re going to finish the way we need to finish, because of the character of this locker room.”

“Brick” has been on message all season regarding the Jets’ character, but the Green & White will be tested strongly in the expected rain at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park this afternoon. Buffalo is led by MVP-quality QB Josh Allen, RB James Cook, WR Khalil Shakir and a ballhawking band of defenders.

The Bills have won 10 consecutive regular-season home games, the longest active streak in the league. The Bills and Chiefs, both at 7-0, are the lone remaining undefeated teams at home this season. Buffalo’s NFL-record-tying streak of scoring 30-plus points in eight straight games was snapped last week in their 24-21 home win over New England. The Blls’ plus-20 turnover margin leads the league.

Yet the Jets hung with them in their Week 6 Monday night home game, taking a 20-20 tie deep into the fourth quarter before losing on a short Tyler Bass field goal with 3:43 to play and an Aaron Rodgers interception from the Jets 40 at the two-minute warning. The game was Ulbrich’s first as the Jets’ IHC after replacing Robert Saleh.

The New York Jets and Buffalo Bills are gearing up for a divisional matchup this weekend, and both teams have released their list of inactives for the game. Here’s a look at who will be sitting out:

    New York Jets:
    1. RB La’Mical Perine
    2. LB Blake Cashman
    3. OL Cameron Clark
    4. DL Jabari Zuniga
    5. QB James Morgan

    Buffalo Bills:
    1. WR John Brown
    2. TE Dawson Knox
    3. LB Matt Milano
    4. OL Cody Ford
    5. CB Josh Norman

With key players on both sides sidelined, it will be interesting to see how the depth of each team steps up in this crucial AFC East matchup. Stay tuned for more updates on the game.

  • NFL inactives Week 17: QBs Jalen Hurts, Anthony Richardson out, WR Christian Watson questionable

NFL inactives Week 17: QBs Jalen Hurts, Anthony Richardson out, WR Christian Watson questionable

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been ruled for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys with a concussion.

Hurts has been in concussion protocol since his head hit the turf during Sunday’s loss to the Washington Commanders. Head coach Nick Sirianni said on Friday that it was “going to be tough for him to make it” after the quarterback did not practice this week.

Backup Kenny Pickett, who came in for Hurts for the rest of the Commanders game, will start in Hurts’ place.

Down in New Jersey, the Indianapolis Colts (7-8) hopes to keep its faint playoff hopes alive without Anthony Richardson, who will miss Sunday’s game with back and foot injuries. Joe Flacco will start Sunday at the New York Giants.

Richardson’s injury isn’t expected to sideline him for the regular-season finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to an ESPN report. This will mark the third game Richardson has missed with injury this season.

After suffering a bone bruise during Monday night’s win over the New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson has yet to practice this week.

After a Saints player fell on him, there was concern for Watson’s knee, but Packers head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed earlier this week that there was no structural damage and it was only a bone bruise.

On Thursday, LaFleur told reporters that even if Watson doesn’t practice this week, that doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t play Sunday against the Vikings.

“If he’s feeling up to it on Sunday, then I’m going to let him go. If he’s not, then we won’t let him go,” LaFleur said.

Watson is currently listed as questionable.

As we head into the final week of the NFL regular season, some key players are listed as inactive or questionable for their respective games. Among them are quarterbacks Jalen Hurts and Anthony Richardson, who will be sitting out this week. Hurts, the starting QB for the Philadelphia Eagles, is dealing with an injury that will keep him sidelined for the season finale. Richardson, the backup QB for the Jacksonville Jaguars, is also out with an injury.

In addition, wide receiver Christian Watson is listed as questionable for Week 17. Watson, a standout player for the North Dakota State Bison, has been dealing with a nagging injury that has limited his availability in recent weeks. His status for this weekend’s game is still up in the air, but fans are hopeful that he will be able to suit up and contribute to his team’s success.

With these key players out or questionable, teams will have to rely on their depth and versatility to secure important wins in the final week of the regular season. It will be interesting to see how these roster changes impact the outcomes of the games and potentially shape the playoff picture. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach kickoff!

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Titans Week 17 inactives: Wingard to likely replace Savage

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without several key players today in their matchup against the Tennessee Titans.

The team will be without starting left tackle Walker Little for the remainder of the year as announced by head coach Doug Pederson earlier this week.

Little suffered a high-ankle sprain against the Las Vegas Raiders last week and will be shut down for the rest of the year. Backup lineman Cole Van Lanen will fill in for him and rookie tackle Javon Foster will be active today.

He’s the fifth starter to suffer a season ending injury, joining Trevor Lawrence, Christian Kirk, Evan Engram and Gabe Davis as players who are out for the year.

Darnell Savage was also ruled out after suffering a concussion last week and not clearing the protocol this week.

After sporting a non-contact jersey for most of training camp as he rehabbed a shoulder injury, he had a quad injury that sidelined him several weeks at the start of the season.

The team planned to originally use him as a nickel corner, emphasizing his versatility to defend in different ways. But due to injuries to other players and down performance at the safety position, he was moved to safety and has remained there for most of the year.

With him sidelined this week, Andrew Wingard will likely get the start for the Jaguars at safety. Wingard had a strong training camp before injuring his knee in training camp.

Wingard was primed to potentially have a large role in defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen’s scheme, but was sidelined for several weeks and is only now getting his legs under him.

“He was in the plan. The whole way, the rotation, the plan from the very beginning. So, he made some plays,” Nielsen said earlier this week. “He had a good camp and then had an unfortunate injury, and we changed some things defensively, personnel-wise because of that. We’re glad to have him back.”

He was selected as the sixth captain for the team this week and will likely have a large role on defense as the team tries to close out the year strong.

This article originally appeared on Florida Times-Union: Jaguars vs. Titans inactives: Jaguars will be without several key players

The Jacksonville Jaguars are gearing up to face off against the Tennessee Titans in Week 17, and there are some key players who will be inactive for the game. One notable absence will be safety Armani Watts, who is dealing with an injury and will not be suiting up. In his place, Andrew Wingard is expected to step in and fill the void left by Watts.

Wingard has been a reliable presence in the Jaguars’ secondary this season, and his versatility and playmaking ability make him a solid replacement for Watts. While it’s always tough to see a player go down with an injury, the Jaguars can rest assured knowing that Wingard is more than capable of holding down the fort in Watts’ absence.

In addition to Watts, other key inactives for the Jaguars include linebacker Quincy Williams and wide receiver Jalen Camp. Both players have been dealing with injuries and will not be available for the game against the Titans.
