  • Dave Matthews Band tour dates include Syracuse, SPAC concerts


    Dave Matthews Band is returning to Upstate New York for the first time since being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

    DMB will perform May 27, 2025, at the Empower Federal Credit Union Amphitheater at Lakeview in Syracuse, plus two nights at the Broadview Stage at SPAC (Saratoga Performing Arts Center) in Saratoga Springs on July 18 and July 19. All three shows will begin at 7:30 p.m.

    Tickets for the concerts will go on sale to the general public Friday, Feb. 21, at 10 a.m. through Live Nation. Presale tickets are available now for members DMB Warehouse Fan Association members at davematthewsband.com/warehouse. 

    Dave Matthews Band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in October, 30 years after releasing its debut album, “Under the Table and Dreaming.” The jam/rock band’s hits include “What Would You Say,” “Two Step,” “Don’t Drink the Water,” “Crush,” “Ants Marching” and “American Baby.”

  • Rangers non-roster invitees include top prospects, 41-year-old journeyman pitcher


    Jesse Chavez is back.

    For the fourth time.

    The Texas Rangers have signed the 41-year-old reliever, who began his career with the organization in 2002, to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training.

    Chavez, whom the Rangers traded as a minor leaguer to Pittsburgh in 2006, pitched for the Rangers for part of 2018, then re-signed with the club for two additional seasons. He spent the last three seasons with Atlanta.

    Chavez, who turns 42 in August, heads a list of 15 non-roster invitees to major league spring training. The list also includes top prospect shortstop Sebastian Walcott, 2024 first-round pick catcher Malcolm Moore and 2024 Rangers Minor League Player of the Year outfielder Alejandro Osuna.

    Chavez spent 2022 with three different teams before landing with the Braves and rejuvenating his career. Over 2023-24, he had a 2.57 ERA in 98 innings with the Braves.

    The Rangers also signed 30-year-old outfielder Cody Thomas, of Colleyville Heritage, who spent parts of 2022-23 with the then-Oakland Athletics. Thomas spent 2024 with Orix in Nippon Professional Baseball.

    Other non-roster invitees with major league experience include right-hander David Buchanan and catcher Chad Wallach, the son of former big leaguer Tim Wallach.

    Internal non-roster invitees in addition to Walcott, Moore and Osuna: Right-handers Dane Acker and Skylar Hales, left-handers Robbie Ahlstrom and Kohl Drake, infielders Cody Freeman, Blaine Crim, Abimelec Ortiz and Trevor Hauver.



    The Texas Rangers have announced their non-roster invitees for spring training, and the list includes some of the team’s top prospects as well as a 41-year-old journeyman pitcher.

    Among the top prospects invited to camp are infielder Josh Jung, outfielder Evan Carter, and pitcher Cole Winn. Jung, the Rangers’ first-round pick in 2019, is considered one of the organization’s top prospects and is expected to make an impact at the major league level in the near future.   • Sources – NFL expected to include QB slides in expanded replay assist


    For all those complaining that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes gets too many calls, relief soon could be on the way.

    NFL replay assist is expected to expand this offseason into plays that could include the quarterback slide, league sources told ESPN on Saturday.

    The NFL enacted replay assist in 2021 to allow replay officials and designated members of the officiating department to assist with on-field calls in limited game situations.

    Replay assist has been used during games when there is clear and obvious video evidence, such as the spot of the ball or a foul, a complete or incomplete pass, and touching of the ball or a line.

    Beginning in 2024, the league expanded replay assist to include additional areas in which information could be provided when there was a penalty flag already on the field, including fouls for hits heading out of bounds, fouls for blows to the head of a quarterback and elements of intentional grounding.

    Now, more elements could be added this offseason. Replay assist came into question in the third quarter of last weekend’s AFC divisional playoff game, when Mahomes scrambled out of the pocket, slid beneath two lunging Texans defenders and still drew a 15-yard penalty on Houston for unnecessary roughness.

    “Oh come on,” ESPN analyst Troy Aikman said during the telecast as the penalty was called. “I mean, he’s a runner and I could not disagree with that one more. He barely gets hit.”

    Aikman said the league has “got to address it in the offseason.”

    “You can’t, as a quarterback, run around and play games with the defenders and then get called for a penalty,” Aikman said.

    The NFL’s competition committee meets throughout the offseason before typically voting on rule changes in late March at the league’s annual meeting, which this year will be held in Palm Beach, Florida. The competition committee will discuss expanding replay assist, and it is likely to include quarterback slides.

    The belief around the league is that there is no reason not to bring further objectivity and clarity to a play that fans in the stadium or at home can see.

    Texans star pass rusher Will Anderson Jr., who was flagged earlier in last Saturday’s game for roughing the passer, said Houston “knew it was going to be us versus the refs going into this game.”

    Mahomes, however, pushed back on the idea that the Chiefs get favorable treatment from officials.

    “I don’t feel that way,” Mahomes said Wednesday as the Chiefs began preparations for Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills. “At the end of the day, the referees are doing their best to call the game as fair and as proper as they possibly can.

    “All you can do is go out there and play the game that you love as hard as you can and live with the results. … I feel like I’ve just continued to play the game, and I just try to win, and whatever happens kind of happens.”



    The NFL is expected to include quarterback slides in its expanded replay assist, according to sources. This new rule change would allow officials to review whether a quarterback was down by contact or if the ball was fumbled during a slide, providing more clarity and accuracy to officiating decisions. Great screen for outdoor movies
This is a good price for a 200 inch screen at less than $100. Screen is canvas but very white. The wrinkles weren’t a problem for me after I stretched it out over the frame. The grommets are good quality for attaching the screen to a frame. One negative is the loss of brightness due to the amount of light that penetrates the fabric. My projector is powerful enough to overcome this but may require a more powerful projector than other screens.It seems that pvc frames are most popular but I used ¾” emt conduit. It’s plenty strong, light weight, and easy to use. Get 7 10’ lengths plus fittings. I ordered fittings from makerpipe.com.The drawing shows the dimensions and fittings I used. The 3 vertical poles are used full length. Cut the 4 remaining pieces to equal lengths to make the upper and lower cross pieces about 185”. I had to cut each piece again to get to the proper length. The final length was 88 ¾” each but this will depend on the dimensions of the fittings you use. Use a conduit cutter for smooth and easy cuts.When attaching the lower cross piece to the poles, use fittings that allow the pole to pass through without cutting so the cross piece can be raised or lowered to match the screen attachment method you use. To make attaching the screen quick and easy I attached a Velcro strip to each screen grommet. Cut a short slit in one end of the strip with scissors, and thread the strip through the grommet and then through the slit. No more threading bungee cords through grommets each time.Attach one of the left-over pieces of emt to the end of each pole using a “T”. Stand the frame up and rotate the feet out to support it. Be sure to attach strings to the top of each end of the fame for additional support. It doesn’t take much of a breeze to blow it over.I noticed that the center pole was visible during use due to the amount of light it reflected so I sprayed it with flat black paint, which fixed the problem.I'm very happy with the combination screen and frame.     A fantastic screen for movie night!

    Recently purchased NIERBO 200 Inch Large Huge Projector Screen for our movie night on our house.

    Screen came packaged very well, in its own zipper-carry case.
    Easy to unpack, and spread out. Comes with detailed care and usage instructions as well.

    Very quality material, canvas was thicker than other screen I have seen. Double-stitched border with metal eyelets was strong and sturdy.

    The screen itself was very bright, and definitely had a little bit of reflection to it, which made the screen images pop out. The material was thick enough to prevent any bleed through from behind during projection at night.

    Did not iron or steam out the wrinkles, however after attaching the screen to the frame and pulling it taught, most of the wrinkles disappeared, and the ones that remained did not affect picture quality at all.

    Built a frame for it that attached directly to the front of the house. (see images) Used 7/8" strut for the frame body, 1/4" strut-nuts with hooks on them to attach bungees to the eyelets. Points of attachment were behind the shutters so no visible holes in the siding. Came out great!

    Great big screen for the money

    Got this for a backyard home theater and works great. Arrived on time, in new condition and no issues with packaging. Constructed a portable frame out of 2" PVC and used a combination of 6" and 9" ball bungees for hanging. It's quite stretchy (like a polyester workout shirt) so you have to find the right amount of tension. Too much and it begins to get out of shape, too little and it will sag due to the weight. But with a reasonable amount of tension there are no visible creases or fold lines and holds it's shape well. The grommets are all consistently spaced and seem reasonably solid. While substantial its not too heavy and the 2" PVC and easily support it. We have only had it for a month and have taken it up and put it away a half dozen times so far with no issue. Screen quality is good with no visible blemishes or stains. Can't comment on how it does after being washed as there hasn't been a need for that to date.

    It does not have a solid or reflective backing so it does need to be reasonably dark to see the picture and backlight will come through. Keep in mind that this thing is BIG! Put up and take down is best with two people and will require a ladder. One could do it, but it wouldn't be fun. Of course, big was the whole point! Overall great purchase for the money, highly recommended and would buy again.

    I received this projection screen with much enthusiasm. The screen seems to be a very durable design however the one issue I ran into is that I cannot get some of the creases out. I received this screen and immediately mounted it onto my wall. In an attempt to remove the wrinkles I made sure to pull the projection surface tight. The screen has been on my walls a little over a week now but the creases continue to be very visible and somewhat distracting. Some of the surfaces have smoothed out and in those areas the images are great. I have not had the opportunity to roll it up tightly in an attempt to remove the blemishes as indicated by instructions because I have no way to store it. I do like the bag that came with it to store the screen in when not in use but I think it will create more creases. At this point I think I would have been better off purchasing a retractable screen that hopefully would not have the creases that this screen has. The materials are sturdy and I think if I can ever get the wrinkles out it will be a great way to project images out side.
