Shortly after clinching his fifth PGA Tour title, pro golfer Harris English engaged in a conversation with the CBS reporter, Amanda Balionis. While holding his daughter, he talked about his feelings regarding his win.
“Yeah, it’s always a journey. I’m 35 now. I’ve been doing this for 14 years, and it never gets easier. I enjoy the grind of it. I love being out here on the PGA Tour, and I love doing stuff like this. This is what we play for.”
“I have so much respect for this game and so much respect for players out here. It’s hard to win. I might have looked calm out there on the course but inside your emotions are going crazy.”
During his interview with Amanda Balionis, Harris English also stated that he knows “how hard it is to win” and it’s “so much fun”. English experienced his first title win in his professional golf career since June 2021.
He concluded the tournament with an overall score of 68-73-66-73, finishing 8-under par at the end of four rounds. Although Sam Stevens presented a challenge for English, the 35-year-old held his one shot lead, and shot a 1-over 73 in the final round to win the title.

The Texas Rangers have been one of the busiest teams in baseball during this offseason.
After winning the World Series in 2023, they fell woefully short of expectations in 2024, leading to general manager Chris Young looking to shake things up this winter. His goal was to make upgrades to avoid another letdown.
To this point, the moves that have been made should have the Rangers in position to compete for the American League West title.
Their bullpen has been revamped, as reinforcements were needed with Kirby Yates, David Robertson and Andrew Chafin all hitting free agency. But, none of their acquisitions have much late-game experience, so bringing back Robertson would make a lot of sense.
In the lineup, the team was looking for some more pop. They addressed that need by trading for Jake Burger in a deal with the Miami Marlins and signing Joc Pederson in free agency.
Both provide a lot of home run potential and deepen what was already a strong lineup.
If the Rangers receive better luck in the injury department this year, they should once again be contenders in the American League.
While some of their key contributors in the lineup battled ailments in 2024, where they truly need that luck is on the pitching mound.
Texas is relying on Jacob deGrom and Tyler Mahle to return to form in 2025 after combining to make six starts last season. Youngsters Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter could round out the rotation behind the two veterans and Nathan Eovaldi. Cody Bradford should be in the mix as well.
It certainly wouldn’t hurt to add some insurance to the roster, which they could do in a trade with the New York Yankees.
Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report has proposed an intriguing deal that would help both teams address weaknesses on their respective rosters.
Marcus Stroman, prospect Rafael Flores and cash would head to the Rangers in exchange for infielder Josh Smith.
If fans of either team are having some deja vu, it is because they made a deal involving Smith once already. Back in 2022, he was traded, along with Ezequiel Duran, to Texas in exchange for Joey Gallo.
Rarely do teams get a chance to essentially hit redo on a deal that didn’t pan out, but the Yankees could have a chance to do it here.
Smith was excellent in 2024, stepping into a starting role when Josh Jung was injured. Now that Jung is healthy and expected to take over at the hot corner again, Smith could become expendable.
No one would fault Texas for holding onto him as he presents excellent value as a versatile bench piece that can fill several holes. But, if they can add an established starting pitcher to the mix, really the only hole they haven’t addressed this winter, it would be hard to pass up.
Given that this is a salary dump for New York and Smith is a valuable player, the Rangers would get back a highly touted offensive prospect and cash to cover what could be $36.5 million in salary for Stroman.
Should he throw 140 innings in 2025, as it would trigger an $18 million player option in 2026 on top of the $18.5 million he is set to make this upcoming season.
The Texas Rangers have reportedly made a blockbuster trade proposal to the New York Yankees in an effort to bolster their pitching staff. According to sources, the Rangers are looking to acquire multiple pitchers from the Yankees in exchange for a package of prospects.

A new online tool that tracks insurance payouts stemming from wildfires that devastated parts of Los Angeles County shows more than $4 billion has been paid so far, largely to replace lost personal items and cover living expenses.
California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara announced the new tracker Thursday.
Lara’s office said insurance companies have made the quick disbursements since the fires largely because of laws implemented after previous wildfires that help people find housing and replace personal items.
Monetary amounts shown on the tracker are expected to grow in the coming weeks and months as more people begin the claims process.
CoreLogic, a property data and analytics firm, estimates the Palisades and Eaton fires will result in $35 billion to $45 billion in insurance payouts to homeowners and businesses.
“With so much misinformation and speculation about our insurance market after the Southern California wildfires, it is critical for the public to track claims and monitor payouts. All eyes are on the insurance companies, and so are mine,” Lara said in a news release.
The numbers show that as of Jan. 27, 31,210 claims have been filed, with nearly half of those already partially paid under the laws requiring advance payments to speed recovery.
The bulk of unpaid claims are related to property damage and debris removal, Lara’s office said.
State law requires certain upfront payments by request. Insurance companies are required to provide funds for replacing personal property in an amount representing 30% of the policy’s dwelling limit, up to $250,000, without requiring the policyholder to file an itemized claim. They are also required to provide advance payment of no less than four months of living expenses.
Lara said he expects insurance companies “to continue providing advance payments that are essential for getting survivors back on their feet as quickly as possible.” After reports that some people were not getting upfront payments, Lara put out a bulletin reminding insurance companies of their obligations under the laws.
Michael Soller, a spokesperson for the insurance commissioner, said data were collected expressly for the purpose of promoting understanding among consumers that claims are being paid immediately and keeping insurance companies accountable.
“You’ve probably seen estimates out there. But this is the first real number of what’s been paid out to date to consumers,” Soller said.
The data displayed on the tracker were collected directly from insurance companies, including California’s Fair Plan, the state’s insurer of last resort, and represents most residential and commercial property insurers. The insurance commissioner’s office expects to update the data every few weeks.

On Friday at the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open, amateurs Luke Clanton and Jackson Koivun made the cut. There were among the 70 golfers who have advanced to the final two rounds at Torrey Pines.
The PGA Tour notes that it’s “the first time in the last 55 years that two amateurs have made the cut at this event in a single year.”
Clanton is a junior at Florida State and Koivun is a sophomore at Auburn. By virtue of making the cut, they are both one step closer to securing status on the PGA Tour. When they each decide to turn pro remains to be seen but they now have 18 points in the PGA Tour University Accelerated program, which awards Tour cards for collegiate amateurs. The magic number is 20 and a recent rule change might make it so each gets there by the event’s conclusion Saturday evening as a top-five finish would mean two more points.
Clanton was tied for 13th after two rounds, while Koivun was tied for 38th. Clanton missed the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii two weeks ago but in 2024, he played in eight PGA Tour events, made the cut in seven of them, and posted four top-10s and tied for second twice. Koivun played in two events, and made the cut in one of them, finishing 52nd at the Memorial.
The last am to make the cut at Torrey was Anthony Paolucci 14 years ago.

A decade after holding a 54-hole lead at the Farmers Insurance Open only to see a win slip through his grasp in the final round, Harris English has an opportunity to right that wrong. English enters Saturday’s last 18 holes at Torrey Pines holding a one-stroke advantage over Andrew Novak. A third-round 66 — including birdies across the final three holes — pushed English to the top of the leaderboard and into position for the fifth PGA Tour win of his career (first since 2021).
Whether the 35-year-old will be able to close the door will also be determined by how those behind him play. While the top of the leaderboard is not particularly star-studded, the likes of Joel Dahmen, Lanto Griffin, Brandt Snedeker, Sungjae Im and Ludvig Åberg are all within striking distance. Åberg’s opening-round 63 remains the lowest of the tournament, and while he remained co-leader through 36 holes, he fell off pace massively after going 75-74 over the crucial middle rounds.
The PGA Tour announced Friday that Torrey Pines will also host the 2025 Genesis Invitational in three weeks amid continued fallout from the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, so it will be a relatively quick turnaround in La Jolla, California, with golfers not only seeking to earn money this week but hone their games for a return to the South Course in mid-February.
