J.R. Smith Says Cam Newton Interviewing Royce Reed On Dwight Howard’s Sexuality Is “Hella Corny”
J.R. Smith is not a fan of Cam Newton’s recent sit down with Royce Reed, who claimed her ex-partner Dwight Howard shared intimate moments with other men. Taking to social media, Smith expressed his disdain for the platforming of the conversation.
“Respectfully this is hella corny Cam, bringing on a Black woman to kill a Black man is never cool, don’t care who’s right or wrong,” Smith wrote on Instagram. “All clickbait ain’t good clickbait. This ain’t love.”
Newton responded, “Call it what you want. Respectfully… I don’t go back n forth in no comments… I ain’t hard to find sir…”
The exchange comes after Reed appeared on Newton’s Funky Fridays show last week. She and Howard, who have one son together, have had public disagreements in the past. In their viral discussion, she alleges Howard was intimate with men, “all the time,” and that the former NBA player frequently used psychedelics for the experiences.
“Have you ever witnessed him being with another man in the bed?” Newton asked Reed at the 01:29:10 mark of the interview.
“Yeah. All the time,” she quickly responded. “They took mushrooms together and then they were like in the bed moaning and touching themselves … but they say that’s an effect of taking mushrooms. I didn’t take them. I pretended to but I didn’t. I spit them right out.”
She continued to detail, “When this would happen, it was like, late. So they [the children] were done for the night,” after describing how the children would be in a different area of the house with a nanny.
Howard responded to the allegations by claiming that he has a “positive diss song” on the way.
“About to drop the first positive diss song ever,” Howard wrote, followed by a prayer-hands emoji. “YUP Me & my wife @amylucianiworld about to inspire all of our enemies, #noshade #praygodhealtheyhearts.”

In a recent interview, former NBA player J.R. Smith spoke out against an interview conducted by Cam Newton with Royce Reed about Dwight Howard’s sexuality, calling it “hella corny.”Smith expressed his frustration with Newton’s decision to interview Reed on such a sensitive topic, stating that it was unnecessary and disrespectful to Howard. He emphasized that people’s personal lives should be off-limits and that it’s not the place of others to discuss or speculate about someone’s sexuality.
The interview sparked controversy and backlash online, with many questioning Newton’s motives and Reed’s involvement in the discussion. Smith’s comments added fuel to the fire, as he criticized the interview for being in poor taste and lacking respect for Howard’s privacy.
Overall, Smith’s stance on the matter highlights the importance of respecting boundaries and not crossing lines when it comes to discussing personal matters, especially when it involves someone’s sexuality. The interview serves as a reminder that everyone deserves to have their privacy respected, regardless of their public persona.

David Shaw interviewing for offensive coordinator
Ben Johnson continues to make progress on filling out his coaching staff with multiple names surfacing as candidates for the offensive coordinator role, including one the Chicago Bears considered for the head coaching position.
A league source told the Tribune on Saturday that the Bears are interviewing former Stanford coach David Shaw for the offensive coordinator position. Shaw, 52, was a senior personnel executive for the Denver Broncos this season.
He was one of the 17 known candidates the Bears interviewed for the job that went to Johnson on Monday. Shaw was the head coach at Stanford from 2011-22 and last worked in the NFL in a four-year stint with the Baltimore Ravens from 2002-05 as quarterbacks and wide receivers coach. He also worked previously for the Oakland Raiders and Philadelphia Eagles.
The team is also interviewing Denver Broncos tight ends coach Declan Doyle for the position. Doyle has been the Broncos tight ends coach for two seasons and before that spent four seasons as an offensive assistant for the New Orleans Saints.
NFL Network reported the Bears interviewed Bo Hardegree for the job as well. Hardegree was an offensive assistant for the Bears in 2015 on John Fox’s staff and was quarterbacks coach for the Miami Dolphins from 2016-18 where he worked with Johnson. Hardegree was quarterbacks coach for the Tennessee Titans last season after two years with the Las Vegas Raiders as quarterbacks coach and interim offensive coordinator.
Arizona Cardinals quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork is also being interviewed for the offensive coordinator job, according to CBS. He’s been with the Cardinals the last two seasons after two years with the Cleveland Browns.
The Bears are believed to be considering Dan Roushar, a Northern Illinois graduate, as a candidate to be offensive line coach. Roushar is in that role at Tulane. He worked for the Saints for 10 seasons with the connection to Johnson being through Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell. Roushar led some successful offensive lines when working for the Saints. He previously coached at NIU and Illinois.
While no announcement has been made official, multiple sources believe former Saints and Raiders head coach Dennis Allen will be hired as defensive coordinator. CBS reported the Bears are interviewing Minnesota Vikings defensive pass game coordinator Daronte Jones for the defensive coordinator position. Jones was an assistant defensive backs coach for the Dolphins when Johnson worked in Miami under coach Adam Gase.
On Friday, the Bears hired Antwaan Randle El as wide receivers coach, J.T. Barrett as quarterbacks coach and Al Harris as the secondary coach. Randle El and Barrett are coming from the Lions. Harris is coming from the Dallas Cowboys.
Richard Hightower is believed to have a strong chance to remain as special teams coordinator.

Detroit Lions interviewing Larry Foote for defensive coordinator position
The first known candidate for the Detroit Lions’ defensive coordinator position has been revealed. According to a report from Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the Lions are interviewing Larry Foote for the position.
Per Bucs reporter Rick Stroud, Foote’s contract is over in Tampa, but the Buccaneers would like him back.
Foote, a Detroit native, was a standout linebacker for the University of Michigan from 1999-2001. As an NFL player, Foote was a two-time Super Bowl winner with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and even spent one season with the Lions in 2009.
His coaching career dates back to 2015, his first year after retiring as a player. He spent his first four years with the Arizona Cardinals, coaching the linebacker unit before jumping to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers—where he’s been since 2019. In those first three years, he was the team’s outside linebackers coach, then transitioning to the inside linebackers coach in 2022 while also being the team’s pass game coordinator.
If Foote lands the job in Detroit, he’ll re-join the newest member of Detroit’s defensive coaching staff: defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers. Both Rodgers and Foote have worked together for the past six years under head coach Todd Bowles. Since Rodgers and Foote joined the Buccaneers, their defense has ranked in the top 10 in points allowed three times, and only ranked in the bottom half of the league once (29th in the regime’s first season).
We’ll see who else will interview for the job as more reports come in. As always, you can catch the latest Lions coaching news over on our 2025 NFL coaching carousel tracker.
The Detroit Lions are in the process of interviewing former NFL linebacker Larry Foote for their vacant defensive coordinator position. Foote, who spent 13 seasons in the league playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions, has been coaching in the NFL since 2010.Foote has most recently served as the linebackers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he helped lead their defense to a Super Bowl victory in 2021. His experience as both a player and a coach make him a strong candidate for the Lions’ defensive coordinator position.
The Lions are looking to bolster their defense after finishing near the bottom of the league in several defensive categories last season. Foote’s knowledge of the game and his ability to develop young players could be just what the team needs to turn their defense around.
Stay tuned for updates on the Detroit Lions’ search for a new defensive coordinator as they continue to interview candidates like Larry Foote.

The Detroit Lions’ coordinators aren’t the only ones in this state getting NFL interviews.
Wink Martindale, Michigan football’s defensive coordinator, is now scheduled to interview with the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday and the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday about vacancies for the same position, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
NFL on CBS’ Jonathan Jones also reported Martindale with interview with the Falcons.
Martindale did not immediately respond to a text looking for comment Tuesday afternoon.
Martindale, 61, took over as U-M’s defensive coordinator prior to the 2024 season when former DC Jesse Minter left alongside ex-head coach Jim Harbaugh to take over the Los Angeles Chargers and though things started slowly, they finished with a bang.
The man with more than two decades of NFL experience − from the Oakland Raiders (2004-08) and Denver Broncos (2009-10) to the Baltimore Ravens (2012-21) and New York Giants (2022-23) − came back to Ann Arbor to take over the No. 1 defense in the nation, but immediately lost the man he called his “Eric Weddle” when Rod Moore suffered a torn ACL during spring practice.
That, combined with a difficult schedule and first year coaches along the defensive line (Lou Esposito), linebackers (Brian Jean-Mary) and in the secondary (Lamar Morgan), not to mention the head coach (Sherrone Moore) and the immediate learning curve proved to be a bit too much.
After never allowing more than 24 points in a game last season, U-M surrendered 24 points or more in four of its first six games and though it escaped with a pair of fortunate victories − back-to-back three-point wins over USC and Minnesota − the team was floundering as it went 4-2 into the bye week.
MORE MICHIGAN FOOTBALL NEWS:Michigan football reportedly to add WR via transfer portal
Michigan lost three of its next four to fall to 5-5, but that’s when the defense came alive.
It started when Michigan held a potent Indiana attack to 20 points, then confidence grew with a 50-6 win over Northwestern. But the crowning moment of the season was when Martindale brought his unit − led by defensive linemen Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant and Josaiah Stewart − into Columbus and as three-touchdown underdogs, shocked the college football world with a 13-10 victory.
It was a defensive masterpiece for the ages, considering Michigan won a game where it didn’t have its best offensive player (Colston Loveland) a projected top-10 defensive draft pick (Will Johnson) and U-M’s offensive passing stat line read as follows: 9 of 16 for 62 yards and two interceptions.
Martindale’s unit shutdown a Buckeyes team now playing for a national championship, then decided to cap it off with a 19-13 hammering of Alabama. Again, Martindale’s group suffered one of the better offenses in the country and this time did so with its top four players sitting out for the NFL draft.
In the end, U-M’s finished No. 11 in total defense (308.4 yards per game) and No. 19 in scoring defense (19.9 points per game) despite playing four of the 12 teams in the College Football Playoff.
According to Martindale’s contract, should he leave for the NFL, he would need to pay U-M $350,000 as a buyout. Martindale signed a three-year contract on Feb. 14, 2024 which had him scheduled to make $2.3 million base salary in 2024, $2.5 million in 2025 and $2.7 million in 2026.
Despite losing a host of picks to the NFL draft (with Moore still to make up his mind), U-M felt it took momentum into the offseason on that side of the ball with Martindale at the helm. Now, it will see just how much pull the NFL still has.
The report also indicates the Cincinnati Bengals have interest in meeting with Martindale.

Wink Martindale Atlanta Falcons: Michigan DC reportedly interviewingAccording to reports, Wink Martindale, the current defensive coordinator for the University of Michigan, is set to interview for the Atlanta Falcons’ head coaching position. Martindale has been with the Wolverines since 2021, helping lead the team to a successful season.
Martindale’s aggressive defensive style and ability to motivate players have been key factors in his success at Michigan. He has previous NFL coaching experience, having served as the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens from 2018 to 2020.
If Martindale were to be hired by the Falcons, it would mark a significant change for the team, as they look to rebuild and improve after a disappointing season. Fans are hopeful that Martindale’s leadership and defensive expertise could help turn the Falcons into a winning team once again.
Stay tuned for more updates on Wink Martindale’s potential move to the Atlanta Falcons as their new head coach.

#Wink #Martindale #Atlanta #Falcons #Michigan #reportedly #interviewingWhen Can They Start Interviewing Candidates?
There is only one question on my mind after the Chicago Bears’ loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football.
When can this team start interviewing head coach candidates?
And I doubt I am alone in thinking about this today.
Even with a win against the Seahawks, this would have been top of mind this morning.
The Bears fired Matt Eberflus on the day after Thanksgiving. And even though Thomas Brown has held the interim head coach title since, his time as the team’s head coach will likely hit its end next week against the Green Bay Packers. Once the doors close on Week 18, the regular season will come to an end for Chicago’s football team. And with that, the search for a new, full-time head coach will begin in earnest.
A potential timeline for finding the next Chicago Bears head coach
Brian McCarthy, the NFL’s Vice President of Communications, shared this handy guide laying out a full outline of the rules NFL teams must follow for the league’s head coach interview process and rules. The Tribune’s Brad Biggs also rounds up some notable dates in his latest. I highly recommend checking out both if you want a fuller understanding of what the Bears will go through this offseason.
This is what you need to know about what is next for the Chicago Bears as they embark on a journey to unearth a new head coach:
- The Bears can start talking shop with coaches who are not currently employed by NFL teams. In other words, if they wanted to discuss the opening with Pete Carroll in the wake of a report that the Super Bowl-winning head coach is interested in working with Caleb Williams, they could do so without it being a problem in league offices. Ron Rivera? Mike Singletary? Jon Gruden? Those coaching candidates, whose names will surely pop up in think-pieces, during bar-room conversations, and in group chats, can interview with the Bears right now. The same goes for college coaches.

- As for head coach candidates currently on NFL teams, the Bears can begin requesting interviews on Jan. 6 and interviewing those candidates three days after the regular season ends. Virtual interviews with these candidates have to happen before the end of the NFL’s divisional round games (January 19).
- If the Bears want to interview a candidate whose team has a bye in the first round, virtual interviews can begin three days after Week 18 reaches its conclusion and have to happen before the end of the wild-card round of games (January 16). So we are looking at either Jan. 7 or Jan. 8 depending on when that team finishes its games.
CHICAGO BEARS HEAD COACH CANDIDATES
- Virtual interviews with head coach candidates whose current employer is playing on wild-card weekend can begin three days after the team’s wild-card game and must happen before the end of the divisional round.
- TIME LIMITS: Virtual and in-person interviews cannot be longer than three hours.
- After the divisional round ends, teams can begin in-person interviews with candidates on teams whose seasons ended. But coach candidates whose teams make it to the NFC and AFC Championship games cannot interview until *AFTER* their team’s season ends.
- January 20 is a notable date because that is when teams can have in-person or virtual interviews with coaching candidates whose teams have been eliminated from the postseason.
BN BEARS HEAD COACH CANDIDATE PROFILES: Ben Johnson | Joe Brady | Mike Vrabel
- During the bye week between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl (Jan. 27-Feb. 2), coach candidates who are employed by teams in the Super Bowl can be had for second in-person or virtual interviews. Coaching candidates whose teams are in the Super Bowl cannot have a first interview during this period.
- And, finally: Teams cannot contact head coach candidates who are coaching in the Super Bowl during Super Bowl week. The no-contact period this year runs until Feb. 10 — which is the day after the Super Bowl. At that point, interviews can resume.

The hiring process can be a lengthy one, but many companies are eager to start interviewing candidates as soon as possible. The timing of when they can start interviewing can vary depending on a few factors.First, the job posting must be live and available for candidates to apply. Once the job posting is up, companies can start reviewing resumes and applications to determine who they want to interview.
Additionally, the hiring manager and interview team must be available to conduct interviews. This means coordinating schedules and setting aside time to meet with potential candidates.
Lastly, the company may have set timelines for the hiring process. They may have a specific deadline by which they need to fill the position, which can impact when they can start interviewing candidates.
Overall, companies can typically start interviewing candidates shortly after the job posting goes live, as long as all necessary parties are available and the hiring timeline allows for it.

The Art of Investigative Interviewing: Uncovering the TruthInvestigative interviewing is a crucial skill for anyone involved in uncovering the truth in a variety of settings, from law enforcement to journalism to human resources. The ability to effectively question and gather information from individuals is essential in piecing together a comprehensive understanding of a situation or event.
When conducting an investigative interview, it is important to approach the process with a strategic mindset. Preparation is key, as it is important to have a clear understanding of the goals of the interview, the background of the individual being interviewed, and any relevant information that may impact the conversation.
During the interview itself, active listening is crucial. By paying close attention to the responses of the individual being interviewed, the interviewer can pick up on verbal cues, body language, and inconsistencies that may reveal important information or potential deception.
Asking open-ended questions and allowing the interviewee to speak freely can also provide valuable insight. By giving the individual the opportunity to share their perspective without interruption, the interviewer can gather a more comprehensive understanding of their thoughts, feelings, and motivations.
In addition, building rapport and establishing trust with the interviewee is essential. By creating a comfortable and non-threatening environment, the individual may be more likely to open up and provide honest and candid responses.
Overall, the art of investigative interviewing requires a combination of skills, including effective communication, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence. By honing these abilities and approaching each interview with diligence and care, investigators can uncover the truth and gather the information needed to make informed decisions.
