  • Ohio State Buckeyes Coach Interviews for NFL Job

The Ohio State Buckeyes may be losing one of their coaches to the NFL.

Brad Biggs of The Chicago Tribune has reported that Ohio State offensive line coach Justin Frye has interviewed for the same role with the Chicago Bears.

Frye has been the Buckeyes’ offensive line coach since 2022, and while he faced some stiff criticism early on for missing on many top recruits, he certainly turned things around this past season, helping Ohio State form a rather impressive unit in the trenches.

The 41-year-old played offensive tackle at Indiana between 2002 and 2006 and then earned a graduate assistant job with the Hoosiers in 2007. He spent two years serving in that role before landing another graduate assistant job at Florida in 2009, where he resided for two seasons.

Frye then landed a job as Temple’s offensive line coach in 2011.

The Elwood, In. native also served as offensive line coach for Boston College and UCLA before being promoted to offensive coordinator for the Bruins in 2019.

Frye proceeded to make the move to Ohio State in 2022, where he has also held the title of associate head coach and run game coordinator.

The Buckeyes just won their first national championship in a decade, so it’s no surprise that teams are trying to poach their coaches. It already happened with defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, who recently moved on to Penn State.

Ohio State will also be losing a bunch of key players to the NFL Draft, so it will be interesting to see how the Buckeyes recover in 2025.

The Ohio State Buckeyes football team’s head coach, Ryan Day, is reportedly being sought after by several NFL teams for their head coaching vacancies. Day, who has led the Buckeyes to a 12-1 record this season and a Big Ten Championship, is considered one of the top coaching prospects in college football.

According to reports, Day has already interviewed with multiple NFL teams, including the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Chicago Bears. It is believed that Day’s offensive acumen and ability to develop quarterbacks have caught the attention of NFL teams in need of a head coach.

Day has not publicly commented on the rumors surrounding his potential NFL job opportunities, but many believe that he could be swayed to make the leap to the professional ranks if the right opportunity presents itself.

Stay tuned for updates on Ryan Day’s coaching future as the NFL coaching carousel continues to spin.

  • Commanders Coaching Tracker: Blough and Pritchard get interviews for OC

The latest update on the NFL’s coaching hiring cycle has moved down to the assistant level for the Washington Commanders. There’s only one head coaching job open(Saints), but there are offensive coordinator jobs available.

David Blough just completed his first year as a coach after being a backup QB in the NFL for five seasons. He was Washington’s assistant QB coach this season, and is considered a fast-riser who could move up quickly. He has received interview requests from the Bears(pass game coordinator) and the Jets(QB coach). Both teams hired coordinators from the Lions(Ben Johnson, Aaron Glenn respectively) as their head coaches, and Blough was on their practice squad in 2023.

Tavita Pritchard has been the Commanders QB coach for two seasons, and he was one of only three coaches that Dan Quinn carried over from the Ron Rivera regime. He worked closely with Jayden Daniels(along with Blough) and has interviewed with the Jacksonville Jaguars for their OC job. The Jaguars hired former Buccaneers OC Liam Coen to be their new head coach. If Pritchard gets that job, he would be working with QB Trevor Lawrence, and Blough would likely move into the QB coach position if he doesn’t get a promotion with another team.

The NFL’s coaching cycle, along with the postseason, is almost over. There is only one head coaching job left, and two teams remain in play for the Lombardi trophy. The Washington Commanders lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, and will watch them play the Kansas City Chiefs in 12 days. The New Orleans Saints are the only team that is still looking for their next head coach. The Commandeers were in the same position last year before they hired Dan Quinn.

Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury and defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. both received interest from teams, but only Whitt actually interviewed(Jets). This was Whitt’s first head coaching interview, and he will return as Washington’s DC next season. Kingsbury was expected to get significant interest after his return to the NFL was helped by having the best QB in the 2024 draft. Kingsbury held off on interviewing while Washington was still in the playoff hunt, but will reportedly not interview with the Saints.

Assistant GM Lance Newmark also received interest at the executive level. He interviewed for the Las Vegas Raiders, and was considered a finalist for the New York Jets GM position, but he will return to Washington after those positions were filled.

Brian Johnson virtual interview scheduled with the Texans:

Tavita Pritchard interviews for Jaguars OC:

David Blough getting OC interview requests:

Kliff Kingsbury will stay with Washington:

Kliff Kingsbury still has interest from the Saints:

    Kliff Kingsbury happy in Washington:

The Commanders Coaching Tracker is heating up as two potential candidates for the offensive coordinator position have emerged. Quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese has been leading the search for a new OC and has reportedly interviewed former Lions quarterback David Blough and former Arizona Cardinals assistant Tom Pritchard.

Blough, who spent the last three seasons with the Lions, is known for his strong football IQ and ability to develop young quarterbacks. Pritchard, on the other hand, has worked under offensive-minded coaches like Kliff Kingsbury and has a reputation for innovative play-calling.

Both candidates bring unique strengths to the table and it will be interesting to see who ultimately lands the job. Stay tuned to the Commanders Coaching Tracker for the latest updates on this developing story.

  • Jets Conducting Second GM Interviews With Trey Brown, Darren Mougey

After the Titans and Raiders filled their general manager positions, the Jets were the only team still looking to fill a vacancy at that position, until the Jaguars made the move to fire their GM today. Now, the Jets have a bit more pressure on the clock if they want to make sure their top candidate doesn’t get hired away to Jacksonville. To that effort, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported today that Broncos assistant GM Darren Mougey and Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown will be brought in for second interviews with New York tomorrow.

Mougey and Brown both interviewed with the Jets on the same day for their first interview, as well. Mougey has been a fast riser in Denver, working his way up from intern to assistant GM. He’s provided the front office with a bit of continuity over the past few years, as he is one of the few executives to work under both former general manager John Elway and current general manager George Paton.

A Kansas City-area native, Brown is 39 but has been in the NFL ranks since 2010. Brown got his front office start in New England before joining Philly’s operation in 2013. He ended up spending six years with the Eagles, working his way up to director of college scouting. After a few years in the AAF and XFL, he landed with the Bengals in 2021. Brown was already popular during last year’s cycle, with the executive earning an interview with the Raiders while also landing on the Patriots’ short list of candidates, as well.

They join Commanders assistant GM Lance Newmark as the only candidates who will have received second interviews so far. Newmark had been trending along with new head coach Aaron Glenn as the likely hire, but Pelissero notes that the team bringing in Mougey and Brown does not rule out Newmark as a candidate. Newmark was in the building with Glenn on Monday, and the team may just want Glenn to get facetime with a couple more candidates before making their decision.

Here’s how the Jets’ general manager search is shaping up so far:

The New York Jets are continuing their search for a new general manager, and they have narrowed it down to two candidates: Trey Brown and Darren Mougey. Both candidates have already gone through initial interviews with the team, but now they are set to undergo a second round of interviews.

Trey Brown currently serves as the assistant general manager for the Philadelphia Eagles, where he has been instrumental in the team’s success in recent years. He has a strong background in player evaluation and salary cap management, making him a well-rounded candidate for the Jets’ GM position.

Darren Mougey, on the other hand, is currently the director of player personnel for the Baltimore Ravens. He has a proven track record of identifying talent and building successful rosters, which could make him a valuable asset to the Jets organization.

Both Brown and Mougey have impressed the Jets’ ownership and front office during the initial interviews, and now they have the opportunity to make their case for why they should be the next general manager of the team. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as the Jets get closer to making a decision on their new GM.

  • Jets plan second G.M. interviews with Darren Mougey, Trey Brown

The Jets have found their head coach, now they need to find their General Manager.

Aaron Glenn has agreed to a deal to coach the team and their search for a G.M. to work with him will expand to include at least two more interviews. According to multiple reports, the team will have second interviews with Broncos assistant G.M. Darren Mougey and Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown.

The Jets had Commanders assistant G.M. Lance Newmark in for a second interview this week and his prior work with the Lions while Glenn was in Detroit suggested that they might come in as a package.

That’s not the case at this point and the Jets may be headed in a different direction when all is said and done.

The New York Jets are moving forward with their search for a new general manager, as they plan to conduct second interviews with candidates Darren Mougey and Trey Brown. Both candidates have impressed the team with their experience and vision for the future of the franchise.

Mougey, currently the assistant director of player personnel for the Arizona Cardinals, has a strong background in player evaluation and scouting. He has been instrumental in helping the Cardinals build a competitive roster and is seen as a rising star in the NFL front office.

Brown, on the other hand, is the director of player personnel for the Philadelphia Eagles and has a proven track record of success in talent evaluation and team building. He has played a key role in the Eagles’ recent success and is highly respected within the league.

The Jets are looking to find a new general manager who can help lead the team back to contention and build a sustainable winning culture. With Mougey and Brown as top candidates, the future looks bright for the Jets as they continue their search for the right person to lead the team. Stay tuned for updates on the Jets’ general manager search.

  • Raiders to have second G.M. interviews with Brandon Brown, Chad Alexander

The Raiders will move their search for a new General Manager to a new stage on Monday.

According to multiple reports, the team will hold second interviews with Giants assistant G.M. Brandon Brown and Chargers assistant G.M. Chad Alexander on Monday. Both interviews will take place in person after both men met with the Raiders remotely the first time.

Brown is in his third season with the Giants and he spent five years with the Eagles before jumping to their divisional rival. Alexander just finished his first season with the Chargers and previously worked for the Jets and Ravens.

Commanders assistant G.M. Lance Newmark had his first interview with the Raiders on Sunday.

The Las Vegas Raiders are set to conduct second interviews for their vacant general manager position with Brandon Brown and Chad Alexander.

Both Brown and Alexander have impressed the Raiders’ leadership during their initial interviews and are now being given the opportunity to further showcase their qualifications and vision for the team.

Brown currently serves as the director of player personnel for the Philadelphia Eagles, while Alexander is the director of player personnel for the Indianapolis Colts.

The Raiders are looking to fill the general manager position following the departure of Mike Mayock earlier this month. The team is hopeful that either Brown or Alexander will be able to step in and help lead the franchise to success in the coming seasons.

Stay tuned for updates on the Raiders’ general manager search as the team continues its evaluation of potential candidates.

  • 49ers News: Coen interviews Tampa Bay which helps Robert Saleh for DC

Robert Saleh watch: Latest Buccaneers news could benefit 49ers

“On Wednesday, Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen will have his second interview, and one report suggests the Buccaneers are preparing for his potential departure.

“[T]here’s a growing belief that it’s Coen’s job to lose,” wrote Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “Not only were the Jaguars impressed with the 39-year-old offensive coordinator when he interviewed virtually a week ago, he’s also most equipped to resurrect the career of quarterback Trevor Lawrence.”

49ers’ offseason blueprint: Hurry up and pay Brock Purdy, then draft him protection (paywall)

“A reason to use high-end draft picks on positions such as offensive tackle, defensive tackle and edge rusher? Those positions are among the priciest in free agency, and we just demanded that the 49ers plunk down at least $55 million per year on their quarterback and to make it snappy.

Given some financial constraints, they’d be wise to make their annual free-agent splash on a cornerback after doing just that in 2022 when they signed Charvarius Ward to a three-year, $40.5 million deal. Three years later, Ward is likely to leave in free agency and his expected departure would leave the top of their depth chart with Deommodore Lenoir, Renardo Green and … Darrell Luter? Ever heard of Tre Avery?

Jets cornerback D.J. Reed, a fifth-round pick of the 49ers in 2018, has said he’ll test free agency, but he could be out of their price range. A less expensive option might be the Saints’ Paulson Adebo, a 2021 third-round pick who has 10 career interceptions but missed 10 games last season with a broken leg.”

What NFL playoffs tell 49ers about their window to contend

“Fans of the 49ers bemoaned the team’s play along the offensive line. But the playoffs have demonstrated that other top teams have their own issues up front.

After all, the Minnesota Vikings and Eagles surrendered nine and seven sacks, respectively, against the Rams.

The Vikings’ season ended when they could not protect quarterback Sam Darnold against the Rams’ young, vibrant pass rush. The Eagles and quarterback Jalen Hurts survived and advanced to the NFC Championship Game, where they will host the Commanders on Sunday.”

Five defensive tackles 49ers could target in 2025 NFL Draft

“Big-time players show out when the lights are brightest, and Williams put on a clinic in Ohio State’s College Football Playoff run, with exceptional performances in wins over Texas and Oregon. Technically sound and remarkably consistent, Williams might not possess the pass-rushing prowess of Harmon or Nolen, but it’s hard to argue there is a player with a better floor as a run defender at the position in this draft.

Williams measures in at 6-foot-3, 330 pounds and could provide an immediate impact for a 49ers’ defense in desperate need of plugging the holes in their run defense. The No. 11 overall pick feels like a reach for Williams at this point, but his strong College Football Playoff showing could vault him out of the 49ers’ range in the second round. Perhaps San Francisco could trade up from No. 43 overall? Something to keep an eye on.”

How 49ers’ 2025 NFL Draft selections are impacted by Darnold

“And the standout play of Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold appears to mean the 49ers will receive another compensatory pick at the end of the fourth round.”

In a recent development in 49ers news, it has been reported that offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel has interviewed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their head coaching vacancy. This news comes as a potential opportunity for defensive coordinator Robert Saleh to elevate his coaching career.

As McDaniel explores potential head coaching opportunities, Saleh has emerged as a strong candidate for defensive coordinator positions across the league. With his impressive track record and leadership skills, Saleh has garnered interest from several teams looking to bolster their defense.

The interview with Tampa Bay could potentially open up new doors for Saleh, who has been instrumental in the success of the 49ers defense in recent years. His innovative schemes and ability to develop players have made him a highly sought-after coaching prospect in the NFL.

While the 49ers would undoubtedly miss McDaniel’s contributions on the offensive side of the ball, Saleh’s potential promotion to defensive coordinator could solidify the team’s coaching staff and maintain continuity on both sides of the ball.

Overall, this development serves as a testament to the talent and potential within the 49ers coaching staff, and fans will be eagerly awaiting further updates on Saleh’s coaching future. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story. #49ers #RobertSaleh #MikeMcDaniel #TampaBayBuccaneers

  • 3 Observations Entering Round 2 of Interviews

The Jacksonville Jaguars search for a new head coach is set to shift into another gear this week.

The Jaguars and the other five NFL teams without a head coach can begin to speak to contracted candidates in person this week; as of this writing, only New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh has had an in-person interview with the Jaguars so far.

So with the Jaguars officially set to hit round two of the search process this week with in-person interviews, what do we think of the search so far? We break it down below.

Lions loss changed entire course of Jaguars search, and likely several others

I think it is fair to say most teams across the NFL were surprised to see the results of the Detroit Lions’ divisional round loss to the Washington Commanders. The Lions have been a trendy Super Bowl pick since they barely fell short of making it last year, and their dominant regular season didn’t make anyone think it could end any differently.

Simply put, I do not know if any of the five teams in the running for Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn would have made a decision at head coach until talking to the two star Lions coordinators in person first. And once Johnson and Glenn get offers and take jobs, the rest of the dominoes will start to fall around the NFL.

These dominoes were expected to start falling next week — and even later if the Lions made the Super Bowl. But now each coach is available earlier than anyone ever thought they would be, and I would imagine this helps speed up the Jaguars’ process along with everyone else.

Jaguars search looks much different than any other team

It is hard to compare the Jaguars’ search to any other team in this year’s cycle. The New Orleans Saints and Las Vegas Raiders have had small interview lists, and it sure seems like each team has its favorites for the jobs in Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson. While I am sure the Jaguars have internal favorites, I do not think their search has been narrow enough to indicate that they are locked in on only one or two options.

Then there are the Chicago Bears and New York Jets, who are interviewing nearly a combined 40 candidates between the two of them. If the Jaguars have cast a wide net, then the Bears and Jets are trying to cast a record-setting one. It truly seems like both teams are waiting for other dominoes to fall, and each search has seemingly gotten to the point where they are getting too much information.

Compared to those four, the Jaguars’ 10-candidate list falls right in the middle. Not too hot, not too cold; just right.

Our best guess on where the Jaguars lean

There is likely still quite a bit of waiting time until we know who the Jaguars ultimately pick as their next head coach, but there has also been enough of a search to this point for us to be able to make an educated guess on which way the winds are blowing.

While coaches like Robert Saleh and Aaron Glenn have garnered attention when it comes to the Jaguars search, I personally believe all roads will lead back to two other names: Ben Johnson and Liam Coen. Saleh and Glenn are good choices (Glenn, like Coen, had an impressive interview with the team), but I entered the search thinking Johnson and Coen were the two best fits for the Jaguars and nothing I have seen or heard since then has made me change my tune.

I personally believe the Jaguars are gunning for an offensive-minded head coach, and these are the two I think they will covet the most. For Johnson, it seems like the Jaguars are not nearly as out of the race as people try to make it seem.

My ultimate guess: I think if Johnson is not the hire, then Coen will be. Maybe the second round of interviews will change that, but that is where I personally sit right now.

And for what it is worth, those are the two names I think the team should look to hire.

Ensure you follow on X (Twitter) @JaguarsOnSI and @_John_Shipley and never miss another breaking news story again.

    1. The candidates are more prepared: As we move into the second round of interviews, it is clear that the candidates have done their homework. They are coming in with a deeper understanding of the company and the role, and are able to speak more confidently about how their skills and experience align with what we are looking for.
    2. The stakes are higher: With each round of interviews, the competition gets tougher. The candidates who have made it to this stage are all highly qualified, and it will be crucial for us to pay close attention to the details in order to make the best decision for our team.
    3. The excitement is building: As we narrow down our list of candidates and move closer to making a final decision, there is a palpable sense of excitement in the air. Each candidate brings something unique to the table, and we are eager to see who will ultimately rise to the top and join our team.

  • Dennis Allen interviews for Colts DC Friday

Former Saints head coach Dennis Allen is making his pitch for a new job on Friday.

Word earlier this week was that Allen would interview with the Colts for their vacant defensive coordinator job and Albert Breer of SI.com reports that the interview is taking place on Friday.

Allen was fired by the Saints after opening the 2024 season with a 2-7 record and he was 18-25 overall during his time in New Orleans. Allen also struggled as the Raiders head coach earlier in his career, but he was a successful coordinator with the Saints before getting bumped up to the top job.

Steve Wilks, Lou Anarumo, Wink Martindale and Ephraim Banda have also interviewed for the coordinator position on Shane Steichen’s staff in Indianapolis.

It has been reported that former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen is set to interview for the Indianapolis Colts’ defensive coordinator position on Friday. Allen, who has been with the Saints since 2015, has a wealth of experience and success in the NFL.

During his time with the Saints, Allen helped lead the team to multiple playoff appearances and a Super Bowl victory in 2009 as the defensive backs coach. He was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2015 and has since built one of the league’s top defenses.

The Colts are looking to fill the vacancy left by Matt Eberflus, who recently left to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears. Allen’s interview on Friday could potentially lead to him taking over the reins of the Colts’ defense and continuing their strong tradition of defensive excellence.

Stay tuned for updates on Dennis Allen’s interview with the Colts and the potential impact he could have on their defense in the upcoming season.

  • Ravens’ Todd Monken: Timing of interviews ‘unfortunate’

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — In what has been a very important and busy week for Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, he described the timing of the NFL head coach interview process as less than optimal.

Monken, who led the Ravens’ offense to its first No. 1 ranking this season, has two interviews for head coach vacancies just days before Baltimore’s AFC divisional playoff game in Buffalo on Sunday. Monken interviewed with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday and will speak with the Chicago Bears on Friday, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“The way the system is set up is unfortunate, but it is what it is,” Monken said Thursday. “But I’m excited to play the Bills — that’s where my mind’s at.”

This time of year can be challenging one for coaches who are trying to balance getting a head coaching job with helping their current team win a championship.

Under NFL rules, coaches who are with playoff teams can interview for head coach openings days after the wild-card game and must occur before the end of the divisional round games. These interviews are conducted virtually.

Monken, 58, didn’t have an answer on how to change the process.

“I don’t think there’s any easy way, or they’d already be doing it,” Monken said. “It is what it is. It’s like trying to figure out things. … They’ve been trying to figure it out. There’s no easy way. There’s no easy solution, so it is what it is.”

Monken said the interviews did not affect his preparation time in game-planning for the Bills. He pointed out that the work he needed to do for any head coach interviews was done in the offseason.

“So, all of my focus last week was on the Steelers, and all of my focus this week is on the Bills,” Monken said. “I love the job I have — I really do, and I have a great job here.”

In Monken’s second season in Baltimore, the Ravens led the NFL by averaging 424.9 yards per game. Baltimore became the first team in NFL history to record over 4,000 yards passing and 3,000 yards rushing in a single season.

Monken also helped quarterback Lamar Jackson to the best statistical season of his seven-year career. The two-time NFL Most Valuable Player posted career highs with 4,172 yards passing and 41 touchdown passes while throwing four interceptions.

Last year, Monken interviewed for head coaching jobs with the Los Angeles Chargers and Carolina Panthers.

“It’s a compliment to this organization — our players and our coaches — that other organizations have an interest in myself or any of our coaches,” Monken said. “That’s just a fact.”

The Baltimore Ravens’ offensive coordinator, Todd Monken, recently spoke out about the timing of his interviews for head coaching positions in the NFL. Monken expressed that he found the timing of the interviews to be “unfortunate” as they came during the team’s playoff run.

Despite the distractions of the interviews, Monken emphasized that his focus remained on helping the Ravens succeed in the postseason. He credited the organization and his fellow coaches for their support during this challenging time.

While Monken’s interviews may have been a distraction, his dedication to the team and his professionalism throughout the process have not gone unnoticed. Ravens fans can rest assured that Monken’s commitment to the team remains unwavering as they continue their playoff journey.
