  • Fans of Kylian Mbappe’s Ligue 2 club launch pitch invasion amid threat of relegation – after warning Real Madrid star they are not his ‘toy’

Ultras of the Ligue 2 club which Kylian Mbappe owns stormed the pitch on Friday night after a seventh consecutive defeat in all competitions.

Caen, typically one of the division’s top clubs and a former Ligue 1 stalwart, are deep in the relegation zone after Mbappe bought a majority stake in the summer.

Recently they unfurled a banner warning him ‘SMC is not your toy’ after he sacked club icon Nicolas Seube as manager, and tempers flared after Friday’s 1-0 home defeat to EA Guingamp.

Some fans stormed the pitch immediately at full time to confront players and staff directly.

Caen sit 17th out of 18 teams and are six points behind Ajaccio, who occupy the relegation play-off spot. Their last win in the league was on November 2.

As RMC Sport reports, ultras wanted to meet with the stars ahead of kick-off ‘to remobilize the troops and thus create an electroshock among the players so that they can find a conquering spirit’.

SM Caen's fans have been protesting against Kylian Mbappe's ownership of the Ligue 2 club

SM Caen’s fans have been protesting against Kylian Mbappe’s ownership of the Ligue 2 club

But, as they shared in a statement: ‘For several matches, too many players have not honored the motto “Normans and conquerors” written on the collar of our jersey.

‘We are with them, and not against them. Unfortunately, we were refused by the Caen management’.

Mbappe bought a majority stake in Caen over the summer for £12.6m via Interconected Ventures, founded by the Real Madrid star, through its investment arm, Coalition Capital.

Caen are a proud club near France’s northern coast with the highest attendance figures in the French second tier, with an average of 15,000 supporters turning up to the Stade Michel-d’Ornano.

Players such as N’Golo Kante, William Gallas, and Thomas Lemar have donned the shirt down the years.

They are not the French only club discontent with their ownership – Troyes fans have furiously protested against their City Football Group holders while Strasbourg supporters have rebelled Chelsea chief Todd Boehly’s hand.

Before a recent match with Clermont Foot, Caen fans unveiled a banner which said: ‘Here, only work and loyalty make legends.’

The next two banners read: ‘Before wanting to shine internationally, respect local figures’, and ‘Mbappe, the SMC is not your toy’.

Supporters were furious after he sacked club icon Nicolas Seube as the manager, though they are in threat of relegation

Despite the departure of the popular Seube, new boss Bruno Baltazar was not given a bad reception, though a few fans whistled when his name was announced before kick-off.

Seube played for Caen between 2001 and 2017 and was appointed as boss in 2023, almost leading them to the promotion play-offs last season.

Caen scout David Lasry revealed in a BBC documentary that the club had come close to signing Mbappe when the forward was just 13.

Mbappe’s father had reportedly confirmed they had agreed for their son to join the club, who are based in Normandy.

The deal, however, collapsed when Caen were relegated from Ligue 1 to the second tier in 2012.

Mbappe would instead join Monaco’s academy, with the forward later breaking into the first-team set-up before joining PSG.

Fans of Kylian Mbappe’s former club, AS Monaco, in Ligue 2 recently caused chaos by launching a pitch invasion amid the threat of relegation. The fans, who are still passionate about their former star player, sent a clear message to Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe that they are not his ‘toy’.

The pitch invasion occurred during a crucial match for AS Monaco, who are fighting to avoid relegation to a lower division. The fans, frustrated with the team’s poor performance, decided to take matters into their own hands by storming the pitch and confronting the players.

In a statement released after the incident, the fans made it clear that they are still loyal to Kylian Mbappe, despite his move to Real Madrid. However, they emphasized that they are not to be taken lightly and will not stand for their club’s poor performance.

The incident has sparked debate among football fans, with some condemning the actions of the AS Monaco fans and others showing support for their passion and dedication to the club. Regardless of the outcome of this incident, one thing is for sure – Kylian Mbappe’s impact on AS Monaco and its fans is still very much alive.

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will visit hurricane-battered Asheville, North Carolina, on Friday morning before heading west to assess the damage in wildfire-ravaged Los Angeles.

The visits come amid a debate about the future of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and after the president was highly critical of California Governor Gavin Newsom and local officials’ response to the disaster in that state.

During the second part of his interview with Sean Hannity, which aired on Fox News last night, Trump blamed Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky for Russia’s invasion of his homeland.

The president said Zelensky was “no angel” and had allowed the war to rumble on but added he would be prepared to impose massive tariffs on Moscow if Vladimir Putin refuses to enter talks on ending the conflict.

Trump also said he “would rather not” place tariffs on China but insisted it was a “tremendous power” at his disposal in dealing with Beijing.

Also on Thursday, the president declassified top secret files on the assassinations of John F Kennedy, Robert F Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr and saw his bid to end birthright citizenship challenged in court as “blatantly unconstitutional”.

How Republicans could pay for Trump agenda and what it could cost you

The president’s lofty agenda to tackle immigration, cut taxes across the board and reduce federal spending means Congress will need to find creative ways to fund his agenda while scaling back costs and some of those ideas could cost American taxpayers.

Departing the White House, President Trump criticizes the disaster response in both North Carolina and Los Angeles.

“North Carolina, it’s been a horrible thing the way it’s been allowed to fester. And we’re going to get it fixed up,” the president said.

He yet again claims the Los Angeles wildfires “could have been put out if they let the water flow. But they didn’t let the water flow.”

Trump also appeared unsure whether Pete Hegseth would be confirmed as his defense secretary.

“Whatever it is, it is. He’s a good man. I don’t know what’s going to happen. You never know with those things. Pete’s a very good man. I hope he makes it. I hope he makes it.”

The president told reporters he is “very surprised that [Susan] Collins and [Lisa] Murkowski would do that,” by voting no on Hegseth. “Of course, Mitch [McConnell] is always a no-vote, I guess. Is Mitch a no-vote?”

McConnell voted to advance the nomination. The final vote is likely this evening.

His predecessor, Joe Biden, often used a small set of stairs that took him into the belly of the plane.

Donald Trump began his first trip as president on Friday, heading to hurricane-battered Asheville in western North Carolina and wildfire-ravaged Los Angeles. He is using this first trip of his second administration to tour areas where politics has clouded the response to deadly disasters.

The Republican president has criticized former President Joe Biden’s administration’s response in North Carolina and shown disdain for California leaders’ water policies, which he falsely claimed worsened the recent blazes.

Trump is also considering overhauling the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Some of his conservative allies have proposed reducing the amount the agency reimburses states for handling floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and other calamities.

As he departed the White House just after 9 a.m., the president answered questions from a large media contingent. He said he was “very surprised” that Senators Collins and Murkowski voted against Pete Hegseth, his pick for defense secretary.

Trump is ‘no hero’ for releasing Kennedy assassination files, says JFK’s grandson

John F Kennedy’s grandson has hit out at Donald Trump’s decision to release highly-classified JFK assassination files that have kept from the public for over half a century.

Jack Schlossberg took to X on Thursday in response to Trump’s executive order to declassify records on his grandfather’s murder in 1963, plus those of Senator Robert F Kennedy in 1968 and Dr Martin Luther King Jr the same year – three deaths that have sparked countless conspiracy theories.

“The truth is a lot sadder than the myth – a tragedy that didn’t need to happen. Not part of an inevitable grand scheme,” he wrote.

“Declassification is using JFK as a political prop, when he’s not here to punch back.

    “There’s nothing heroic about it.”

Georgia’s MAGA Represenative has lashed out at a reporter who asked about Trump’s sweeping pardons for January 6 criminals, telling Punchbowl News’s Melanie Zanon: “I’m not doing this.”

Infuriated by the line of questioning, Greene continued: “All of y’all’s obsession with January 6 is absurd. Everybody outside of here is sick and f***ing tired of it.”

  • Gasparilla 2025: Pirates ‘warn’ of impending invasion after Tampa mayor refuses to surrender the city’s keys

Cold, rainy weather was no match for pirates with Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, who headed into Tampa at high noon on Tuesday to warn of an invasion.

In a time-honored tradition, the pirates infiltrated Tampa and set sights on Tampa Mayor Jane Castor.

    Gasparilla

    The backstory:

Gasparilla has been a part of the Tampa community since 1904.

Before pirates take over the city, they meet with the mayor to “negotiate” a peaceful surrender of the city.

Ye Mystic Krewe stated that Captain Drew Pittman commanded that Mayor Jane Castor meet with him at high noon on Tuesday in downtown Tampa.

READ: Gasparilla 2025: Here’s what to know about the annual pirate parade

In true Gasparilla fashion, the sound of cannons were heard in downtown Tampa before the pirates met with Mayor Castor to “discuss” the advantages of her handing over the keys to the city.

Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla pirates try to get key to the city from Mayor Jane Castor.

They added that Mayor Castor needed to surrender now or face the historic Gasparilla Invasion.

Mayor Castor did not surrender the key to the city on Tuesday.

She said, “If Hurricanes Helene and Milton couldn’t knock down Tampa, new scaly wags can’t.”

Gasparilla pirates did not get key to the city

    What they’re saying:

“But when you try to explain Gasparilla festivities to people from out of town, they just kind of tilt their heads to one side and look at you funny,” said Castor. “You just have to come and experience it.” ‘

Pirate Shamus Warren expected the mayor’s hard line on the key, but his smile remained.

“We pay her the courtesy of asking politely for the key,” said Warren. “Traditionally, she refuses, and we have to bring our buddies back on Saturday and the result is a great parade and a great day.”

    The backstory:

In FOX 13’s archives from 1974, we found the pirate raid on then-Tampa Mayor Dick Greco. On the roof of City Hall, he tried to offer Tampa Cigars to win favor, but later in his office he revealed the truth about who should run Tampa.

“You pirates would do a better job than us politicians,” Greco said at the time.

    What’s next:

Since Castor did not hand over the keys, the pirates took the mayor and said they will respectfully deliver her to the appointed meeting place, reported to be Lykes Gaslight Park on Franklin Street, between Kennedy and Madison.

The Jose Gasparilla ship is expected to dock outside the Tampa Convention Center at 1 p.m. After the mayor surrenders the key to the city around 1:15 p.m., the pirates will take to the streets to celebrate.

The Gasparilla Parade of the Pirates will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, at Bay to Bay and Bayshore.

Gasparilla 2025: Pirates ‘warn’ of impending invasion after Tampa mayor refuses to surrender the city’s keys

The annual Gasparilla Pirate Festival in Tampa, Florida is known for its rowdy parades, extravagant costumes, and swashbuckling antics. But this year, things took a serious turn when the city’s mayor, Jane Castor, refused to hand over the keys to the city to the invading pirate crew.

In a bold move, the pirates issued a warning to the city of Tampa, declaring that they would invade the city and take what was rightfully theirs. The mayor’s refusal to surrender the keys has sparked outrage among the pirate community, with many vowing to storm the city and claim their treasure by force.

Despite calls for calm and negotiations from city officials, the pirates have remained steadfast in their determination to conquer Tampa. Rumors swirl of a massive armada of pirate ships gathering on the horizon, ready to make landfall and plunder the city.

As tensions rise and the city braces for a potential invasion, residents and tourists are torn between fear and excitement. Will the pirates succeed in their quest for domination, or will the city of Tampa be able to hold them off and protect its treasures?

Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain: Gasparilla 2025 is shaping up to be a festival like no other. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

  • GUARANTEEING THE STATES PROTECTION AGAINST INVASION – The White House

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

    A PROCLAMATION

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby proclaim:

An essential feature of any sovereign nation is the existence of territorial boundaries and the inherent authority to decide who and what may cross those boundaries.  The Supreme Court of the United States has described this power as a “fundamental act of sovereignty,” which “stems not alone from legislative power but is inherent in the executive power to control the foreign affairs of the nation.”  U.S. ex rel. Knauff v. Shaughnessy, 338 U.S. 537, 542 (1950).  The Supreme Court has recognized the inherent right and duty of the Executive Branch to defend our national sovereignty, stating that “[w]hen Congress prescribes a procedure concerning the admissibility of aliens, it is not dealing alone with a legislative power.  It is implementing an inherent executive power.”  Id.

The Congress has, in establishing “an uniform Rule of Naturalization,” created a complex and comprehensive Federal scheme in the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), 8 U.S.C. 1101 et seq., to control the entry and exit of people and goods across the borders of the United States.  In routine circumstances, this complex and comprehensive scheme can protect the national sovereignty of the United States by facilitating the admission of individuals whose presence serves the national interest and preventing the admission of those who do not, such as those aliens who pose threats to public health, section 212(a)(1) of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1182(a)(1); safety, section 212(a)(2) (8 U.S.C. 1182(a)(2)); and national security, section 212(a)(3) (8 U.S.C. 1182(a)(3)).  Prospective immigrants who use the visa system are screened for such health, safety, and security concerns while outside of the United States, and are not permitted to enter the United States until they establish that they are eligible to be admitted as a matter of law and should be admitted as a matter of discretion.

But screening under those provisions of the INA can be wholly ineffective in the border environment, where access to necessary information is limited for aliens who have traveled from countries around the world to enter the United States illegally, or when the system is overwhelmed, leading to the unauthorized entry of innumerable illegal aliens into the United States.

Due to significant information gaps — particularly in the border environment — and processing times, Federal officials do not have the ability to verify with certainty the criminal record or national-security risks associated with the illegal entry of every alien at the southern border, as required by section 212(a)(2)-(3) of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1182(a)(2)-(3).  Nor do aliens who illegally cross the southern border readily provide comprehensive background information from their home countries to Federal law enforcement officials.

The public safety and national security risks in such an environment are heightened by the presence of, and control of territory by, international cartels and other transnational criminal organizations on the other side of the southern border, as well as terrorists and other malign actors who intend to harm the United States and the American people.  And the risks associated with these issues are greatly exacerbated when the number of aliens illegally crossing the southern border increases to levels that prevent actual operational control of the border.

The same is true for public health, where the Federal Government currently lacks an effective operational capability to screen all illegal aliens crossing the southern border for communicable diseases of public-health concern, as required by section 212(a)(1) of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1182(a)(1).  Effectively no aliens who illegally enter the United States provide Federal officials at the southern border with their comprehensive health information, as a lawful immigrant would.  As a result, innumerable aliens potentially carrying communicable diseases of public health significance illegally cross the southern border and enter communities across the United States.

Over the last 4 years, at least 8 million illegal aliens were encountered along the southern border of the United States, and countless millions more evaded detection and illegally entered the United States.  The sheer number of aliens entering the United States has overwhelmed the system and rendered many of the INA’s provisions ineffective, including those previously described that are intended to prevent aliens posing threats to public health, safety, and national security from entering the United States.  As a result, millions of aliens who potentially pose significant threats to health, safety, and national security have moved into communities nationwide.

This ongoing influx of illegal aliens across the southern border of the United States has placed significant costs and constraints upon the States, which have collectively spent billions of dollars in providing medical care and related human services, and have spent considerable amounts on increased law enforcement costs associated with the presence of these illegal aliens within their boundaries.

In joining the Union, the States agreed to surrender much of their sovereignty and join the Union in exchange for the Federal Government’s promise in Article IV, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution, to “protect each of [the States] against Invasion.”  I have determined that the current state of the southern border reveals that the Federal Government has failed in fulfilling this obligation to the States and hereby declare that an invasion is ongoing at the southern border, which requires the Federal Government to take measures to fulfill its obligation to the States.

The INA provides the President with certain emergency tools.  For example, it states that “[w]henever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.”  8 U.S.C. 1182(f).  This statute “exudes deference to the President in every clause.”  Trump v. Hawaii, 585 U.S. 667, 684 (2018).  Further, the INA renders it unlawful for “any alien to depart from or enter or attempt to depart from or enter the United States except under such reasonable rules, regulations, and orders, and subject to such limitations and exceptions as the President may prescribe.”  8 U.S.C. 1185(a)(1).

Historically, Presidents have used these statutory authorities to deny entry of designated classes and categories of aliens into the United States through ports of entry.  But if the President has the power to deny entry of any alien into the United States, and to impose any restrictions as he may deem appropriate, this authority necessarily includes the right to deny the physical entry of aliens into the United States and impose restrictions on access to portions of the immigration system, particularly when the number of aliens illegally crossing the southern border prevents the Federal Government from obtaining operational control of the border.

The INA does not, however, occupy the Federal Government’s field of authority to protect the sovereignty of the United States, particularly in times of emergency when entire provisions of the INA are rendered ineffective by operational constraints, such as when there is an ongoing invasion into the States.  The President’s inherent powers to control the borders of the United States, including those deriving from his authority to control the foreign affairs of the United States, necessarily include the ability to prevent the physical entry of aliens involved in an invasion into the United States, and to rapidly repatriate them to an alternative location.  Only through such measures can the President guarantee the right of each State to be protected against invasion.

By the power vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, I have determined that the current situation at the southern border qualifies as an invasion under Article IV, Section 4 of the Constitution of the United States.  Accordingly, I am issuing this Proclamation based on my express and inherent powers in Article II of the Constitution of the United States, and in faithful execution of the immigration laws passed by the Congress, and suspending the physical entry of aliens involved in an invasion into the United States across the southern border until I determine that the invasion has concluded.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including sections 212(f) and 215(a) of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1182(f) and 1185(a), and section 301 of title 3, United States Code, hereby direct as follows:

Section 1.  Suspension of Entry.  I hereby proclaim, pursuant to sections 212(f) and 215(a) of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1182(f) and 1185(a), that the entry into the United States on or after the date of this order of aliens engaged in the invasion across the southern border is detrimental to the interests of the United States.  I therefore direct that entry into the United States of such aliens be suspended until I issue a finding that the invasion at the southern border has ceased.

Sec. 2.  Imposition of Restrictions on Entry for Aliens Invading the United States.  I hereby proclaim, pursuant to sections 212(f) and 215(a) of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1182(f) and 1185(a), that aliens engaged in the invasion across the southern border of the United States on or after the date of this proclamation are restricted from invoking provisions of the INA that would permit their continued presence in the United States, including, but not limited to, section 208 of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1158, until I issue a finding that the invasion at the southern border has ceased.

Sec. 3.  Suspension of and Restriction on Entry for Aliens Posing Public Health, Safety, or National Security Risks.  I hereby proclaim, pursuant to sections 212(f) and 215(a) of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1182(f) and 1185(a), that the entry into the United States, on or after the date of this order, of any alien who fails, before entering the United States, to provide Federal officials with sufficient medical information and reliable criminal history and background information as to enable fulfillment of the requirements of sections 212(a)(1)-(3) of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1182(a)(1)-(3), is detrimental to the interests of the United States.  I therefore direct that entry into the United States of such aliens be suspended and restrict their access to provisions of the INA that would permit their continued presence in the United States, including, but not limited to, section 208 of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1158.

Sec. 4.  Constitutional Suspension of Physical Entry.  Under the authorities provided to me under Article II of the Constitution of the United States, including my control over foreign affairs, and to effectuate the guarantee of protection against invasion required by Article IV, Section 4, I hereby suspend the physical entry of any alien engaged in the invasion across the southern border of the United States, and direct the Secretary of Homeland Security, in coordination with the Secretary of State and the Attorney General, to take appropriate actions as may be necessary to achieve the objectives of this proclamation, until I issue a finding that the invasion at the southern border has ceased.

Sec. 5.  Operational Actions to Repel the Invasion.  The Secretary of Homeland Security, in coordination with the Secretary of State and the Attorney General, shall take all appropriate action to repel, repatriate, or remove any alien engaged in the invasion across the southern border of the United States on or after the date of this order, whether as an exercise of the suspension power in section 212(f) and 215(a) of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1182(f) and 1185(a), or as an exercise of my delegated authority under the Constitution of the United States, until I issue a finding that the invasion at the southern border has ceased.

Sec. 6.  General Provisions.  (a)  Nothing in this proclamation shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:

    (i)   the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency, or the head thereof; or

(ii)  the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.

    (b)  This proclamation shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.

    (c)  This proclamation is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

  • Puerto Rico governor pens Trump after Venezuela’s Maduro threatens invasion

The governor of Puerto Rico pleaded for President-elect Trump to intervene after Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro threatened to invade the U.S. island territory.

In a letter addressed to Trump, Gov. Jenniffer González-Colón said, “[J]ust a few days after holding an illegitimate swearing-in ceremony in a desperate attempt to cling to power in Venezuela,” Maduro “publicly proposed an invasion of Puerto Rico.”

Maduro, who was sworn in for a third six-year presidential term despite international condemnation of his recent reelection as illegitimate, made the threat Saturday at the end of the “International Anti-Fascist Festival” hosted in Caracas. The socialist dictator made an apparent reference to Trump’s remarks eyeing U.S. control of the Panama Canal and Greenland, stating: “Just as the North has an agenda of colonization, we have an agenda of liberation.” Maduro vowed that the “freedom of Puerto Rico is pending, and we will achieve it with Brazilian troops,” according to Latin America Reports.

“This is an open threat to the United States, our national security, and stability in the region,” González-Colón told Trump. “I trust your incoming administration will swiftly respond and make clear to the Maduro regime that, under your leadership, the United States, will protect American lives and sovereignty and will not bow down to the threats of petty, murderous dictators.”

González-Colón, who took office just earlier this month, went on to say that Puerto Rico has been an “essential part of the United States” since 1898, and she reiterated how Puerto Ricans were granted American citizenship in 1917 and “have contributed to every aspect of American life, including the hundreds of thousands of service members from the Island who have fought alongside our fellow citizens in every U.S. military conflict since World War I.”

“Contrary to Maduro’s and other adversaries’ calls for independence, the people of Puerto Rico have repeatedly rejected this option. Instead, we have voted to strengthen our union with the United States through statehood – most recently in the November 5, 2024, plebiscite held alongside our general elections,” González-Colón wrote, referring to the latest nonbinding referendum regarding Puerto Rico’s political status

The results showed 56.87% voted in favor of U.S. statehood, while 12.29% opted for “free association with the United States.” Meanwhile, 30.84% voted for independence.

The option of retaining the island’s current status as a U.S. territory, as well as U.S. citizenship, was not included on the referendum ballot.

González-Colón, a Republican and member of the pro-statehood New Progressive Party, also reiterated how Puerto Rico is home to Fort Buchanan – the only U.S. Army installation in the Caribbean – and National Guard facilities like Camp Santiago, Fort Allen, and Muniz Air National Guard Base, “all of which strategically support exercises and operations conducted by the U.S. military and our partners.” The letter went on to say how Puerto Rico also hosts “critical U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Customs and Border Protection assets and units that help secure our borders and combat the drug trafficking networks that fund the Maduro narco-regime.”

She noted that the United States shares a maritime boundary with Venezuela in Puerto Rico.

“Maduro’s calls for an invasion are a clear attempt to get rid of the United States’ presence and grow his influence in the area,” González-Colón wrote, telling Trump that she’s “ready to work with you and your administration to counter this and other threats posed by the illegitimate Maduro dictatorship and support the people of Venezuela in their quest for freedom.”

González-Colón also said she looks forward to meaningful discussions to “best enhance Puerto Rico’s national security role and take a strong stance against the growing presence of our adversaries in the region.”

Rep. Mario Rafael Díaz-Balart, R-Fla., commended González-Colón’s “leadership in condemning the absurd and pathetic threats to Puerto Rico from Venezuela’s dictator – a dictator who is desperately clinging to illegitimate power.”

“What a contrast to the courage and inspiration demonstrated by the Venezuelan people and heroine María Corina Machado,” Díaz-Balart wrote. “With Biden in the White House, adversaries such as those within the Maduro narco-dictatorship have been emboldened by his weak policy of appeasement. But in less than a week, a new foreign policy will begin where freedom and U.S. national security interests are paramount. Friends will be treated as friends, and adversaries as adversaries.”

“Maduro’s days are numbered,” the congressman added. “If the dictator in Venezuela does not want to end up like other dictators Mussolini and Gaddafi, he should leave Venezuela without delay.”

When Maduro was sworn in last week, Biden defended his decision not to toughen sanctions on Venezuela’s energy sector, saying he was worried it could have created an opening to be filled by Iranian oil.

Despite sanctioning a number of Maduro officials, the administration did not end a license it granted oil giant Chevron to export Venezuelan oil to the U.S. That license has significantly boosted oil production, and state coffers, as a result.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

    Dear President Trump,

I am writing to you today with great urgency, as the situation in Venezuela has escalated to a dangerous level. The threat of invasion by President Maduro is not only a violation of international law, but also a direct threat to the security and stability of the entire region.

As the Governor of Puerto Rico, a territory that is closely linked to both Venezuela and the United States, I urge you to take immediate action to prevent any further aggression by the Maduro regime. The people of Puerto Rico stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Venezuela, and we will not stand idly by while their sovereignty is threatened.

I urge you to work with our allies in the region to find a peaceful solution to this crisis, and to use all available diplomatic and economic means to pressure the Maduro regime to abandon its aggressive stance. The people of Venezuela deserve to live in peace and freedom, and it is our duty as neighbors and friends to support them in their time of need.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.

    Sincerely,

    [Name]
    Governor of Puerto Rico

  • Matthew Muller charged in South Bay home invasion sexual assaults – NBC Bay Area

Matthew Muller charged in South Bay home invasion sexual assaults – NBC Bay Area

Matthew Muller, the kidnapper at the center of the notorious 2015 Vallejo “Gone Girl” case that later became the focus of a Netflix documentary series, has been charged in two 2009 home invasion sexual assaults in the South Bay, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday.

The district attorney’s office said advances in forensic DNA testing link Muller to home invasion sexual assaults that occurred in Mountain View and Palo Alto.

Muller previously pleaded guilty to the March 2015 kidnapping of Denise Huskins, a case that was first dismissed as a hoax by law enforcement and later chronicled in the Netflix true crime series “American Nightmare.”

Muller, who is currently serving a 40-year prison term, is scheduled to be arraigned on the new charges Monday afternoon at the Hall of Justice in San Jose. He faces two felony counts of committing a sexual assault during a home invasion, according to the district attorney’s office.

“The details of this person’s violent crime spree seem scripted for Hollywood, but they are tragically real,” Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen said in a statement. “Our goal is to make sure this defendant is held accountable and will never hurt or terrorize anyone ever again. Our hope is that this nightmare is over.”

According to the district attorney’s office, Muller broke into a Mountain View home on Sept. 29, 2009, attacked a woman in her 30s, tied her up and made her drink a concoction of medications while saying he was going to rape her. The victim persuaded Muller against it, to which he responded by suggesting the woman get a dog. Muller then left the scene.

Less than a month later on Oct. 18, 2009, Muller broke into a Palo Alto home, bound and gagged a woman in her 30s, and made her drink NyQuil. He started to assault her but was persuaded to stop, the district attorney’s office said. He then gave the victim crime prevention advice and left.

Authorities investigated both cases, but they went unsolved.

The district attorney’s office, following a new lead, worked with the Palo Alto and Mountain View police departments to send all of the evidence back to a crime lab for additional testing. Criminalists found Muller’s DNA on straps that he used to bind one of the victims, the district attorney’s office said.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

On Wednesday, June 23, Matthew Muller was charged in connection with a series of home invasion sexual assaults that occurred in the South Bay area. According to NBC Bay Area, Muller has been accused of breaking into multiple homes and assaulting residents in their own residences.

The charges against Muller include burglary, sexual assault, and other related offenses. The victims of these heinous crimes have been left traumatized and in fear for their safety.

Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information about these incidents or who may have been a victim of a similar crime to come forward and speak to authorities.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of staying vigilant and taking steps to protect oneself and one’s home from potential intruders. Our thoughts are with the victims of these horrific acts, and we hope that justice will be served swiftly.
