  • Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff defends Isaiah Stewart’s ejection after he drilled Thomas Bryant in loss to Pacers

Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart was ejected on Wednesday night after he took out Indiana Pacers big man Thomas Bryant with a hard forearm randomly in the first half.

Midway through the second quarter of the 133-119 loss in Indianapolis, Stewart looked like he was going to try and box Bryant out after a shot when he suddenly hit him hard out of nowhere in the chest and neck area. The shot sent the 6-foot-10 center crashing back down to the court as others worked to get the rebound.

Almost immediately, officials threw Stewart out of the game and he took off for the locker room. Bryant got up and briefly tried to go after Stewart, but he was held back before he could really get anywhere.

“I have to be better at not letting those words allow me to affect the team. I know my squad could have used me out there tonight.”

It’s unclear what kind of talk Stewart was referring to or what was said specifically. If anything was said, though, it had to have been earlier in the game. Stewart and Bryant weren’t close enough to be jawing right before Stewart drilled him.

Regardless, the apparent commentary was enough for Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff to forcefully defend Stewart’s actions.

“There’s things that happen on the basketball court that you have to deal with. Then there are certain things that are said to you that are no longer about basketball,” Bickerstaff said. “When it crosses that line like it did tonight, you should be able to stand up for yourself. … There was things said tonight that absolutely crossed the line, past basketball to man-on-man stuff. And if someone says something like that to you that crosses the line, you should have every single right to do what you need to do to defend yourself.”

The Pacers led nearly the entire way on Wednesday night while grabbing the 14-point win. Pascal Siakam led the way with 37 points and six rebounds, and Tyrese Haliburton finished with 30 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. The Pacers have now won 10 of their last 12 and sit at 26-20 on the season.

Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 32 points and nine assists, and Tobias Harris finished with 19 points and eight rebounds. Stewart had a point and an assist in eight minutes when he was ejected. The 23-year-old is averaging 5.5 points and six rebounds per game this season, his fifth with the Pistons.

While a clear shot like the one Stewart took will get a player ejected every time, it’s not often that you see a head coach defending those actions. But he’s not backing down, whether it’s with Stewart or bigger picture.

“It is absolutely my responsibility to defend our guys when we feel like things aren’t balanced, and I will never, never stop doing that,” Bickerstaff said. “Again, our guys will earn the respect of this league, but it’s my responsibility to defend them. Whatever is happening out on the floor, whether it’s opponents, whether it’s referees, it doesn’t matter to me. My job is that, and I will always do that.”

Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff defends Isaiah Stewart’s ejection after he drilled Thomas Bryant in loss to Pacers

Detroit Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff is standing by rookie center Isaiah Stewart after he was ejected for a hard foul on Indiana Pacers forward Thomas Bryant during a recent game.

Stewart, known for his physical style of play, caught Bryant with a forearm to the face as he drove to the basket. The referees immediately called a flagrant foul 2, resulting in Stewart being ejected from the game.

Despite the ejection, Bickerstaff believes Stewart’s intentions were not malicious and that he was simply trying to make a play on defense.

“Isaiah is a young player who plays with a lot of energy and intensity. He was just trying to make a play on the ball and unfortunately things got a bit out of hand,” Bickerstaff said in a post-game press conference.

Bickerstaff went on to say that he supports Stewart and his aggressive style of play, but understands the need for him to be more cautious in situations like this.

“We don’t want to see anyone get hurt on the court, so it’s important for Isaiah to be mindful of his actions and make sure he’s playing within the rules of the game,” Bickerstaff added.

Stewart has since apologized for the incident and expressed regret for his actions. The Pistons ultimately fell to the Pacers in a close game, but Stewart’s ejection remains a topic of discussion in the basketball world.

As the Pistons move forward, Bickerstaff will continue to work with Stewart on improving his technique and decision-making on the court to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

Despite trailing by as many as 14 points in the first quarter, and by 10 at halftime, the Golden State Warriors exploded in the second half on the way to an upset comeback win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. In the fourth quarter with the Warriors closing in on an impressive victory over the team with the best record in the Western Conference, Gary Payton II put an exclamation mark on Golden State’s comeback.

  • Pistons’ Isaiah Stewart suspended 1 game without pay by NBA

Isaiah Stewart received a Flagrant Foul 2 for this exchange in a Jan. 29 loss to the Pacers.

NEW YORK — Detroit Pistons forward-center Isaiah Stewart has been suspended one game without pay for accruing his sixth Flagrant Foul point of the 2024-25 regular season, it was announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations.

Stewart, who entered Wednesday’s game with four Flagrant Foul points, received a Flagrant Foul 2 and was ejected with 8:45 remaining in the second quarter of the Pistons’ 133-119 loss to the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Jan. 29. Stewart will serve his suspension tonight when the Pistons host the Dallas Mavericks at Little Caesars Arena.

The NBA’s regular season Flagrant Foul point system appears below:

If the player’s regular season total exceeds 5 points, he will receive an automatic suspension following the game in which his point total exceeds 5 points and for each additional Flagrant Foul committed during that regular season, as follows:

    1. Player at 4 points commits a Flagrant Foul 2: Automatic 1-game suspension
    2. Player at 5 or 6 points commits a Flagrant Foul 1: Automatic one-game suspension
    3. Player at 5 or 6 points commits a Flagrant Foul 2: Automatic two-game suspension
    4. Player at 7 points or more commits a Flagrant Foul: Automatic two-game suspension

In addition, Stewart has been fined $50,000 for making inappropriate and objectionable gestures following his ejection.

The NBA has suspended Detroit Pistons’ Isaiah Stewart for one game without pay following his altercation with LeBron James during Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Stewart, who was ejected from the game after repeatedly trying to confront James, will serve his suspension during the Pistons’ upcoming game against the Miami Heat.

The league also fined James $15,000 for his role in the incident, which left Stewart with a facial laceration that required eight stitches.

Both players have since apologized for their actions, with Stewart expressing regret for his outburst and James acknowledging that he “may have overreacted” in the heat of the moment.

The NBA’s decision to suspend Stewart underscores the league’s commitment to maintaining the integrity and sportsmanship of the game, and serves as a reminder to players to conduct themselves with professionalism and respect on and off the court.

  • Detroit’s Isaiah Stewart suspended and fined by NBA after flagrant-foul ejection in loss to Pacers

NEW YORK (AP) — Isaiah Stewart of the Detroit Pistons was suspended by the NBA on Friday for one game without pay after the forward/center picked up a sixth flagrant-foul point this season.

The league announced the suspension Friday, along with a $50,000 fine for Stewart making “inappropriate and objectionable gestures” after his ejection Wednesday in the Pistons’ 133-119 loss to the Pacers at Indiana.

Stewart received a Flagrant 2 and was ejected in the second quarter. Stewart entered the game with four flagrant-foul points, so the call triggered the automatic suspension based on the league’s regular-season protocols.

The 6-foot-8, 250-pound Stewart is averaging 5.4 points and 5.8 rebounds.

Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart has been suspended for two games and fined $45,000 by the NBA following his ejection for a flagrant foul in the team’s loss to the Indiana Pacers.

Stewart’s incident occurred in the third quarter of the game on Saturday when he got tangled up with Pacers forward Isaiah Jackson and appeared to hit him in the face as they were jockeying for position under the basket. The officials reviewed the play and assessed Stewart with a flagrant foul 2, resulting in his ejection from the game.

The NBA announced the suspension and fine on Sunday, citing Stewart’s “reckless and dangerous” actions on the court. Stewart will miss the Pistons’ upcoming games against the Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks as a result of the suspension.

This is not the first time Stewart has been involved in a physical altercation on the court this season. Just last month, he was involved in an altercation with LeBron James that resulted in both players being ejected from the game.

Stewart has been a key player for the Pistons this season, averaging 8.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. His absence will be felt by the team as they look to bounce back from their loss to the Pacers and continue to improve throughout the season.

  • Isaiah Joe’s ‘pretty easy’ take on playing alongside Thunder veteran

After missing two consecutive games due to illness, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Isaiah Joe returned to the floor along with Thunder veteran Isaiah Hartenstein in Sunday’s win against the Portland Trail Blazers. Joe led the bench with 16 points on 6-of-11 attempts, including 3-for-7 from deep, and four rebounds. Hartenstein finished with a double-double (14 points, 12 rebounds) in the starting lineup but also shared the floor with Joe and the second unit.

Joe and Hartenstein’s two-man game stood out during significant stretches, including the Thunder’s 39-point second quarter, during which Isaiah scored 11 of his 16 points.

“It’s been good. It’s been pretty easy the way that we play as a unit to integrate that onto the court,” Joe said. “Obviously, he creates action very well. We kind of go hand in hand with that. So, just continuing to improve on that has been good.”

For Joe, stringing together defensive stops triggered his and the Thunder’s offense throughout the second quarter.

“Getting stops first and foremost, being able to get stops, but then on the offensive end, I thought we played the right way,” Joe said. “Ball was moving, had energy. Everybody out there was going. And so, all five contributed in that run, but I think it started on the defensive end.”

After Jalen Williams connected from behind the arc, Hartenstein found Joe for a three to open the second quarter. Then, Hartenstein connected with Joe for a driving layup before finishing the second quarter by scoring five of his 14 points and dishing all three assists to Isaiah.

Williams finished with 24 points, including connecting on a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line, eight assists, two blocks, and one steal in Sunday’s win.

Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault praised Jalen Williams for his work getting to the free-throw line more often. After going 6-for-7 from the free-throw line in a 123-114 win against the Jazz, Williams went 7-for-10 in the Thunder’s 121-115 loss against the Mavericks.

Daigneault gave his starting forward credit for his hard work, per The Oklahoman’s Joel Lorenzi.

“For a young guy that’s ambitious, that is having success in other areas of his game, to have the foresight and maturity to be able to say, ‘You know what? This is an area that is going to allow me to be a better player and allow us to be a better team. I’m going to focus on it, even in the face of failure.’ I have respect for that,” Daigneault said.

The Thunder will conclude their two-game road trip against the Warriors on Wednesday.

Isaiah Joe’s ‘Pretty Easy’ Take on Playing Alongside Thunder Veteran

In a recent interview, Isaiah Joe, the promising young guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder, shared his thoughts on playing alongside veteran players in the league. Despite being only in his second year in the NBA, Joe has already made a name for himself with his sharpshooting and defensive prowess.

When asked about what it’s like to play alongside seasoned veterans on the Thunder roster, Joe had a simple response: “It’s pretty easy.” He went on to explain that having experienced players around him has helped him learn and grow as a player, giving him valuable insights and advice on how to navigate the challenges of the league.

Joe also emphasized the importance of being a sponge and soaking up as much knowledge as possible from his veteran teammates. He credited them with helping him improve his game and develop his skills, both on and off the court.

With his humble attitude and willingness to learn, Isaiah Joe is poised to continue making an impact in the league and prove himself as a valuable asset for the Thunder. And with the guidance of his veteran teammates, the sky’s the limit for this talented young player.

  • Isaiah Joe’s 3-Point Percentage is Rapidly Climbing

The Thunder has dominated competition all season long, cruising to the NBA’s best record. Of course, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is leading the charge, but the rest of the team is legit too. Oklahoma City is well constructed and deliberately built, and it’s showing in a big way this season.

To start the season, Oklahoma City relied on stellar defense. With the offense coming out flat and needing time to adjust, the defense had to step up and anchor the young team. But now, the offense has caught up and the product has been the juggernaut we see now.

Oklahoma City is fifth in points scored, 11th in field goal percentage, and first in free throw percentage. The Thunder also takes care of the ball at a premium, committing the fewest turnovers in the NBA. After starting the season relatively cold from 3-point range, the team is a top-half shooting squad in the NBA. While the team’s outside shooting percentage is rising, so is the team’s sharpshooter Isaiah Joe’s.

Joe suffered through a big time shooting slump to start the year — by his standards anyways. He was hovering around the 35-37% range for most of the season before January began, but he has been on quite the heater lately. Although it hasn’t necessarily swayed the outcome of any game, it’s encouraging to see. When the court shrinks in the playoffs, this is the version of Joe that the team will need.

Over the last 10 games, Joe is averaging 12.8 points per game on 51.7% from the floor and an astounding 48.5% from 3-point range. The last 10 games have also included two separate contests featuring eight made triples. On the season, Joe is back up to 38.9% from long range while taking a career-high 6.0 attempts per contest. He’s sneaking back up to 40% and completely rebounding from his slow shooting start to the season.

Joe’s shooting has always proven to find its way back on track. Despite this slump being elongated, Joe has been a consistent sniper over the course of his Thunder stint. His slumps are more noticeable, though, considering he’s the only specialty shooter the team has.

When he’s on, Oklahoma City is at its best. This version of Joe is who the Thunder will need in the postseason.

Isaiah Joe, the sharpshooting guard for the Philadelphia 76ers, has been on fire from beyond the arc recently. His 3-point percentage has been rapidly climbing, showcasing his deadly accuracy and ability to knock down shots from long range.

In the past few games, Joe has been lighting it up from downtown, hitting shots at an impressive rate and helping the Sixers stretch the floor and create spacing for their offense. His improved shooting has been a key factor in the team’s success and has earned him praise from fans and analysts alike.

With his confidence soaring and his shot falling, Isaiah Joe is quickly becoming one of the most dangerous shooters in the league. Keep an eye on him as he continues to elevate his game and make a name for himself as a premier marksman in the NBA.

  • Isaiah Hartenstein lays out strong case for Jalen Williams’s All-Star chances

For the third year in a row, the OKC Thunder will find themselves well represented during the league’s annual All-Star Weekend, as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been named a starter for the headline exhibition while sophomore Cason Wallace was just selected to participate in the Rising Stars Challenge.

Now, fans are champing at the bit while awaiting word on whether Jalen Williams will be joining his Oklahoma City cohorts via his first career All-Star selection. To center Isaiah Hartenstein, there’s no question the forward’s deserving of a bid.

During a practice media session held this past Tuesday, the big man spoke glowingly about how Williams has managed to up his play in all three years of his professional career, and, amid his praise-filled assessment, Hartenstein laid out the reasons why he deserves to be selected as an All-Star reserve.

Thunder big Isaiah Hartenstein endorses Jalen Williams for All-Star bid

“He’s been great. To me, he’s an All-Star this year… I think he’s a really underrated defender. I think he’s one of the best defenders in the league. We just happen to have so many great defenders on our team that sometimes he doesn’t get as much exposure as he should. Defensively he’s been great, offensively he’s been doing a great job just leading the team in those aspects,” Hartenstein said.

While the lion’s share of credit for the team’s top-seeded 37-8 record has been given to Gilgeous-Alexander and his tremendous per-game production, for those familiar and who have watched a majority of games, the Thunder likely would not be where they are at this point in the year without the contributions of Jalen Williams.

Enduring countless injuries throughout the season, particularly within their frontcourt, coach Mark Daigneault has looked to J-Dub to play well outside of his position, as the traditional wing (6-foot-6, 211 pounds) has been tasked with slotting in anywhere from the three all the way down to the team’s starting pivot.

Despite the clear size and strength issues that inherently come with such a rotation set-up, Williams has battled through these numerous adversities and, in turn, has managed to put forth easily his best season yet.

In 44 games played, the 23-year-old finds himself posting sensational two-way averages of 21.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 1.8 steals, and just shy of a block on 47.5 percent shooting from the floor and while registering a remarkable defensive rating of 103.6.

Throughout the year, Williams has proven time and time again that he’s more than capable of serving as a Swiss Army Knife-type of talent while simultaneously playing the role of Nightwing next to SGA’s Batman in the scoring department along the way.

Without his efforts, this bruised and battered Thunder squad would almost certainly not be boasting the best record in the entire league and, in turn, be en route toward their second consecutive home-court advantage throughout the NBA Playoffs.

Because of this, it should go without saying that Jalen Williams is more than deserving of being named an All-Star this season.

During Thursday’s unveiling of the 2025 NBA All-Star reserves on TNT’s pregame show, Isaiah Hartenstein and the vast majority of Thunder nation expect to hear Dub’s name included.

Isaiah Hartenstein, the Houston Rockets forward, believes that his teammate Jalen Williams has a strong case to be considered for the upcoming All-Star game. Williams has been putting up impressive numbers this season and has been a key player for the Rockets.

Hartenstein pointed out Williams’s scoring ability, rebounding prowess, and defensive skills as reasons why he deserves to be recognized as an All-Star. Williams has been a consistent performer for the Rockets, averaging double-digit points and rebounds per game.

With the All-Star game approaching, Hartenstein is making a strong case for his teammate’s inclusion in the roster. Williams’s contributions to the team have not gone unnoticed, and his impact on the court has been undeniable.

As the voting for the All-Star game continues, it will be interesting to see if Jalen Williams gets the recognition he deserves. With the support of his teammate Isaiah Hartenstein, Williams’s chances of making the All-Star team are looking brighter than ever.
