After a week of tongue-in-cheek verbal jousting, Josh Hart was finally willing to show a little love to a former New York Knicks teammate.
One of the primary headlines surrounding the Knicks’ Friday night fracas with the Oklahoma City Thunder (8 p.m. ET, MSG/NBA TV) is the fact that New York will face former center Isaiah Hartenstein for the first time since he inked a three-year, $87 million deal with the artists formerly known as the Seattle SuperSonics.
As the Knicks prepared at Paycom Center, Hart offered tribute to Hartenstein in a way only he could, mixing legitimate respect with humorously biting commentary.
“You don’t really know the true ability or unselfishness of a player until you are teammates,” Hart said, per Stefan Bondy of the New York Post. “In LA with the Clippers, he was solid. But he got to New York and played a style and brand of basketball that [head coach Tom Thibodeau] loves.”
Josh Hart this morning with a tribute to Isaiah Hartenstein:
“You don’t really know the true ability or unselfishness of a player until you are teammates. In LA with the Clippers, he was solid. But he got to New York and played a style and brand of basketball that Thibs loves.…
“He was a great locker room guy for us, unselfish, didn’t care for the spotlight, did all the dirty work things and won us a playoff game. I think he had 10 offensive rebounds. And didn’t care about scoring. He was like, ‘I’m going to dominate the glass.’ So when he’s your teammate, you love him. Now that he’s not your teammate, he can go smoke one.”
Hartenstein was an NBA journeyman for four seasons, playing for four different teams before getting a getting a two-year, $16 million deal from the Knicks. Last year served as his breakout campaign, as he took over the Knicks’ starting center spot when Mitchell Robinson went down.
In 49 appearances in the starting lineup, Hartenstein averaged 9.4 rebounds and 8.7 points and led all playoff participants in offensive rebounds until Dallas’ Dereck Lively replaced him during the latter stages of the NBA Finals. As Hart alluded to, one of his finest showings was a 12-offensive rebound performance during Game 5 of the conference semifinals against the Indiana Pacers, tying a Knicks single-game playoff record set by Charles Oakley during the 1994 run to the Finals.
Hartenstein played that into a bit deal from the Thunder and has justified that payday to the tune of 12.6 points and 12.2 rebounds a game, both which stand as career-highs. All that comes after Hartenstein missed the first half of this season after enduring a hand injury during the exhibition slate.
Though the Knicks’ interior situation has been well-maintained by Karl-Anthony Towns, there’s no denying a certain brand of paint power was lost upon Hartenstein’s departure — and he’ll have a prime opportunity to prove it tonight.
New York Knicks Star, Julius Randle, Pays Tribute to Isaiah Hartenstein
In a heartfelt Instagram post, New York Knicks star Julius Randle paid tribute to his former teammate Isaiah Hartenstein, who was recently traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Randle shared a photo of the two of them on the court, along with a caption expressing his gratitude for their time together.
“Going to miss my guy Isaiah Hartenstein,” Randle wrote. “We had some great times on and off the court. Best of luck in Cleveland, my brother. Keep shining.”
Randle and Hartenstein developed a close bond during their time playing together for the Knicks, and Randle’s tribute is a testament to the camaraderie and respect they shared. Fans of the Knicks and Hartenstein alike have expressed their appreciation for Randle’s kind words, and many have wished Hartenstein well in his new chapter with the Cavaliers.
It’s always heartwarming to see professional athletes showing support for one another, and Randle’s tribute to Hartenstein is a reminder of the strong bonds that can be formed through sports. We wish Isaiah Hartenstein all the best in Cleveland and look forward to seeing both him and Randle continue to succeed in their careers.

Since arriving in the Sooner State back in July, Isaiah Hartenstein has proven himself to be a true difference-maker for this OKC Thunder team.
Though initial reactions to his $87 million deal with the franchise were shrouded in screams of “overpay,” through three months of action Oklahoma City sports the second-best record in the entire association at 28-5 and, with the veteran in the lineup, have gone a mesmerizing 17-1.
From his elite screen-setting and board-gobbling abilities to his top-flight dime-dropping skills, Hartenstein has quickly become a favorite among both fans and team personnel and has regularly received praise from his on-court cohorts.
However, as admitted by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander earlier this season, the overall impact that I-Hart has on the game is something that wasn’t fully understood before his arrival to the Thunder.
According to former Knicks teammate Josh Hart, this is the realization everyone seems to have when given the opportunity to play alongside the 26-year-old pivot.
Josh Hart speaks on impact Thunder’s Isaiah Hartenstein has on game
During the morning hours ahead of Friday’s matchup between the Thunder and Knicks, New York Post beat writer Stefan Bondy shared Josh Hart’s comments on the wonder that is his former teammate Isaiah Hartenstein, revealing that the only way to understand “the true ability or unselfishness” of the big you have to play with him.
“In LA with the Clippers, he was solid. But he got to New York and played a style and brand of basketball that Thibs loves. And then his personality – he was a great locker room guy for us. Unselfish. Didn’t care for the spotlight. Did all the dirty work things. And won us a playoff game. I think he had 10 offensive rebounds. And didn’t care about scoring. He was like, ‘I’m going to dominate the glass,’” Hart said, as transcribed by Bondy.
This praise-filled sentiment is a bit far from the typical comments Hart has gone on record making since Hartenstein signed with the Thunder this summer, as he’s regularly made jokes at the big man’s expense. Even in this statement, in typical fashion, the wing had to cap things off by saying that even though he loves him, “Now that he’s not your teammate, he can go smoke one.”
However, despite all the “talking,” as Hartenstein put it, it’s evident that the two still have a close and personal relationship with one another regardless of the fact that they are no longer a part of the same organization.
A star in his role, through 18 games played I-Hart has found himself producing at phenomenal, career-best rates and is posting impressive all-around averages of 12.6 points, 12.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.3 blocks per night while shooting 57.5 percent from the floor.
Though his tenure with Oklahoma City still may be rather new, it’s evident that the franchise has already come to the realization that Josh Hart informed Bondy about and they couldn’t be happier with the results!
The Oklahoma City Thunder have reportedly made a realization about center Isaiah Hartenstein that guard Josh Hart has known for years.
Hartenstein, who was acquired by the Thunder in a trade with the Denver Nuggets, has been impressing his new teammates and coaches with his skillset and basketball IQ. However, Hart, who played with Hartenstein in college at Villanova, has always been aware of the big man’s talent.
“Isaiah has always been a beast on the court,” Hart said in a recent interview. “I’ve known him since our college days and I’ve seen firsthand how skilled he is. It’s great to see him finally getting the recognition he deserves.”
The Thunder have been utilizing Hartenstein in various lineups and have seen his impact on both ends of the floor. With his ability to stretch the floor, protect the rim, and make smart plays, it’s clear that Hartenstein is a valuable asset to the team.
As the Thunder continue to develop their young core, Hartenstein’s presence and experience will be crucial in their growth and success. And with Hart’s endorsement, it’s no surprise that the Thunder have made this realization about their new big man.

The Tennessee native spent the past three seasons with the Hurricanes, catching 70 passes for 790 yards and six touchdowns.
Horton made the greatest impact in 2024, tallying 56 catches for 616 yards and five touchdowns.
Alabama offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan spoke to reporters Friday for the first time since securing a commitment from Horton, and Sheridan gave his thoughts on the newest offensive weapon for 2025.
“We’re always trying to add quality players to our roster,” Sheridan said. “Guys that provide competition. Guys that have experience. Guys that have the right mindset and attitude. Not just him specifically but all the people that we bring into our program, you’re looking for those things, and certainly excited about him and the other guys we’ve added.”
Horton is expected to combine forces with Ryan Williams and possibly Germie Bernard (if he doesn’t declare for the NFL Draft) in the 2025 receiver room. Horton, at 6-4, 205 pounds, would bring unique size that Williams and Bernard don’t have.
“You’re looking for a variety of skillsets at that position,” Sheridan said. “Certainly catch radius is always something. Different guys present that skill in different ways. Guys that can separate and get open in their own unique style, guys that can make contested catches, guys that can do something with the football, whether you’re big or small, those are skills that are important at that position. Certainly (Horton) has displayed that.”
Recently, Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien shared his thoughts on the newest addition to the Crimson Tide’s receiving corps, Isaiah Horton from Miami. O’Brien praised Horton’s speed, route-running ability, and natural hands, saying that he has the potential to make a significant impact on the offense. With his combination of size and athleticism, Horton could become a key playmaker for Alabama in the upcoming season. Tide fans are surely excited to see what this talented receiver can bring to the table. #RollTide #IsaiahHorton #AlabamaFootball
