Alexander Isak is priced at EVENS to have 2+ shots on target today – as Newcastle and Fulham go head-to-head at St James’ Park

Swedish striker Alexander Isak has been in scintillating form for Real Sociedad this season, and he will be looking to continue his impressive goal-scoring record as his side takes on Newcastle United at St James’ Park today. Isak has been a constant threat in front of goal, and he is priced at EVENS to have 2 or more shots on target in today’s game.

Newcastle United will be hoping to secure a vital three points as they look to climb up the Premier League table, but they will have to be wary of the threat posed by Isak. The 22-year-old has shown his quality in front of goal time and time again, and he will be looking to add to his tally against a struggling Newcastle side.

Fulham, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back from their recent defeat and will be hoping to keep Isak quiet. However, with Isak’s impressive form and eye for goal, it could be a tough task for the Fulham defense.

With Isak priced at EVENS to have 2 or more shots on target today, it could be a smart bet for those looking to capitalize on his goal-scoring prowess. Keep an eye on the Swedish striker as he looks to make an impact in today’s game at St James’ Park.

  • Arteta told to bring Osimhen as chances of signing Isak analysed

Perry Groves has urged Arsenal to go all out to sign one of Europe’s most lethal strikers in the January transfer window if they are unable to get Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, with a fellow talkSPORT pundit also sharing his brutal verdict on Kai Havertz.

Arsenal are actively trying to sign a striker in the January transfer window following the injury to Gabriel Jesus. Kai Havertz is not scoring as frequently as he did last season, and with Liverpool six points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a game in hand, the Gunners are in danger of slipping further behind in the race for the title.

One of the strikers Arsenal are very keen on is Victor Osimhen. The 26-year-old Nigeria international joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan deal from Napoli in the summer of 2024 and has been superb so far this campaign.

One of the most lethal and fearsome strikers in Europe, Osimhen has scored 14 goals and given six assists in 18 matches in all competitions so far this season.

The striker found the back of the net 17 times in all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign, while in 2022-23, he scored 31 goals in 39 appearances.

Manchester United have reportedly had a verbal bid for the striker turned down in January, while Arsenal have made contact about bringing him to the Emirates Stadium before the window closes.

Former Arsenal winger Groves believes that Osimhen would be a brilliant signing for Mikel Arteta’s side in the middle of the season.

While the talkSPORT pundit would love the Gunners to sign Isak in January, he is aware that Newcastle will not sell the Sweden international striker, who has scored 15 goals and given five assists in 20 Premier League matches this season.

When asked whether he would bring Osimhen to Arsenal, Groves told talkSPORT: “In a heartbeat. You ain’t gonna get Isak because Newcastle, even though they had a bad result on the weekend, they’re still looking to see if they can get into the Champions League, so they’re not going to get Isak.

“So, if it means you pay over the odds or if you take a player on loan, any centre-forward at the top level, (Ally) Coisty, you’d be licking your lips thinking, ‘I tell you what, I could make a massive difference to that Arsenal side.’”

    Brutal Kai Havertz verdict

With Jesus now injured, Havertz will continue to lead the line for Arsenal. The Germany international forward has scored just eight goals in 19 Premier League games this season.

During the 2023-24 campaign, Havertz found the back of the net 13 times and provided seven assists in 30 Premier League starts for the Gunners.

Former Rangers and Scotland international striker Ally McCoist does not think that Havertz will win Arsenal the Premier League title this season.

McCoist said on talkSPORT: “I think it’s a crying shame, actually. The amount of games I’ve been at, particularly at the Emirates, and I see that ball flashing across the six-yard box.

“I think Havertz is an excellent footballer, I really do. But I think Havertz would score the same amount of goals whether he plays centre forward, number ten or comes off the side. I think he’ll get 10 goals, whereas a centre forward playing in that position gets you 20, 25 (goals).”

Latest Arsenal news: Sesko bid, Tavares in demand

Arsenal have needed a ‘proper’ striker since last summer, and Jesus’s latest injury seems to have awakened the decision-makers at the North London club.

The Gunners are now actively looking to bring in a new number nine, and one of the players they are very keen on is Benjamin Sesko.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to pay £59.2m in transfer fees for the RB Leipzig striker, with Barcelona also said to be interested in him.

A player that many Arsenal fans would have forgotten about is Nuno Tavares. The left-back is out on loan at Lazio at the moment, and it is unlikely that he will ever play for the Gunners again.

Although Tavares failed to make a huge impact during his time in the Premier League, he has been a star for Lazio in Serie A.

The 24-year-old Portuguese international left-back’s performances in Italy have been so impressive that Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan are all showing interest in him now.

Meanwhile, there are reports that Real Madrid are eyeing a summer raid on Arsenal for William Saliba.

Saliba has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League, and Madrid have reportedly been in touch with his entourage over a summer move.

Encouragingly for Arsenal, the France international central defender is not focused on his future at the moment – his mind is on making sure that the Gunners win the Premier League title this season

POLL:  What is the biggest missing piece for Arsenal to win the Premier League?

In a recent development, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has reportedly been urged to bring in Lille striker Victor Osimhen as the chances of signing Real Sociedad forward Alexander Isak are being analyzed.

Osimhen, who has been in fine form for Lille this season, has caught the eye of several top clubs across Europe with his impressive goal-scoring record. With Arsenal in need of reinforcements up front, the Nigerian international could be a valuable addition to their squad.

However, the Gunners are also considering a move for Isak, who has been in excellent form for Real Sociedad and has attracted interest from a number of clubs. The Swedish striker is seen as a long-term solution to Arsenal’s attacking woes and could provide a different dimension to their forward line.

Arteta will have to weigh up the pros and cons of both players before making a decision on who to pursue in the upcoming transfer window. With funds likely to be limited, the Arsenal boss will need to make a shrewd move in order to bolster his squad for next season.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be able to secure the services of either Osimhen or Isak, but fans will be hoping for a positive outcome as the summer transfer window approaches. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.

Alexander Isak bags Sela Player of the Month award for December

The Swedish striker scored eight times in seven outings throughout December, which included a hat-trick in the win against Ipswich Town at Portman Road. Isak became the first Newcastle player to find the net three times in a Premier League fixture since Ayoze Pérez against Southampton back in 2019.

“As a striker, the hat-trick is always on your mind when you’ve scored a couple of goals,” commented the 25-year-old. “There had been a few occasions where I’d managed to score twice in a match but not quite find the third, so I was happy to finally earn that record. It topped off a really good away performance during a very positive month for us.”

Isak is no stranger to receiving Sela Player of the Month votes from fans, having claimed both the November and December awards. The forward is determined to continue repaying supporters through performances on the pitch, having scored in six consecutive league games.

“Personally, I’m enjoying myself but it all comes down to what you do as a team,” he said. “Over the past couple of months in particular, I feel like we’ve put in some real Newcastle United performances, playing with bravery, energy and intensity – both at home and away.

“I’m really happy with how things are going for myself and the team at the moment. We’ve really upped our level which is going to benefit in the next half of the season. It’s important that we stay humble, continue to work hard and start the New Year in the same way that we ended 2024.”

Voting for the Sela Player of the Month currently takes place after every match in the club’s post-match email.

Eddie Howe ‘nervous’ that he could lose Alexander Isak amid Premier League rival links

Eddie Howe will be nervous about holding onto star striker Alexander Isak at Newcastle as his fine goalscoring form continues.

That’s according to talkSPORT’s Tony Cascarino with Premier League clubs potentially set their sights on a move for the Magpies’ talent.

Isak scored a hat-trick in Newcastle’s 4-0 win at Ipswich Town on Saturday, with his first coming in the opening minute.

The Sweden international has now netted in his last four consecutive league games, although linked with an exit to a rival club.

Arsenal have been regularly linked with Isak ever since he signed for Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022.

With the January transfer window around the corner, speculation is set to increase but Howe is confident of being able to keep him.

    MORE ON THE PREMIER LEAGUE

“Yeah I am,” he told talkSPORT. “I think we’re trying to build, I say many times every transfer window that comes round, we’re trying to build.

“And I think this window for us is probably more about getting the best out of the players that we have rather than looking externally.

“I don’t see us doing huge business, incomings, so it goes without saying, we want to keep our best players.”

talkSPORT understands that Newcastle are under pressure to sell players in January amid Profit and Sustainability [PSR] fears.

However, Weekend Sports Breakfast’s Cascarino senses Howe is nervy of the interest in Isak, saying: “It’s quite clear, Eddie Howe is nervous.

“You know, ‘We can’t do much business, it’s important we keep the best players we can,’ and I totally get that by Eddie. He’s got a challenge, he’s going to have to fight off a number of clubs and whether they make a bid in excess of £100million, if that happens…

“One thing in the paper that Eddie quotes as well, because this says a lot, he said he’s also very popular in the dressing room with the Newcastle lads.

“He spoke about not only his goalscoring but he actually said he’s very popular there as well, so he would be a huge loss.”

Isak’s ten Premier League goals have him sitting joint-fourth in the standings this season with Bryan Mbeumo and Chris Wood.

Only Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah and Cole Palmer have netted more than the trio.

Isak has also reached a total of 47 goals in 86 appearances for Newcastle, with the forward now in his third season at St. James’ Park.

A January move may prove difficult for interested clubs given it the transfer window comes halfway through the campaign.

However, Newcastle could find it even tougher to keep hold of Isak in the summer should he maintain his success in front of goal.

Eddie Howe ‘nervous’ that he could lose Alexander Isak amid Premier League rival links

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has expressed his concerns about the future of star striker Alexander Isak, as Premier League rivals reportedly circle around the talented forward.

Isak, who has been in scintillating form for Bournemouth this season, has caught the eye of several top-flight clubs with his impressive performances. Howe, who has been instrumental in the development of the young Swede, is understandably anxious about the prospect of losing him to a rival team.

Speaking to reporters, Howe admitted, “I am nervous about the situation with Isak. He is a key player for us and has been crucial to our success this season. It would be a huge blow to lose him, especially to a Premier League rival.”

Despite the mounting interest in Isak, Howe remains hopeful that the club can hold onto their prized asset. Bournemouth are reportedly in talks with the striker over a new contract in a bid to fend off potential suitors.

However, with the lure of playing in the Premier League proving difficult to resist, Howe knows that he faces a tough battle to convince Isak to stay at the Vitality Stadium.

As the transfer window approaches, Bournemouth fans will be keeping a close eye on developments surrounding Isak’s future, with the fear of losing him to a rival club looming large. Howe will be hoping that his star striker remains committed to the Cherries as they continue their push for promotion to the top flight.

  • FPL tips and team of gameweek 19: Salah, Isak, Diaz and Maddison all make the cut

FPL tips and team of gameweek 19: Salah, Isak, Diaz and Maddison all make the cut

Mohamed Salah, Liverpool, £13.5m – away at West Ham

Even in a “quietish” game on Boxing Day, Salah still got nine points.

It’s hard to see a week in the near future where you wouldn’t captain him too.

Luis Diaz, Liverpool, £7.5m – away at West Ham

Diaz is a risky, mega-high upside pick. He rarely starts back-to-back games but, with four double-digit returns (13,14,15 and 16 points) in 11 starts, the potential is huge.

He was rested against Leicester, so should play at the Hammers and Liverpool have scored two or more goals in each of their past 10 games. Salah can’t hog all the points!

Ismaila Sarr, Crystal Palace, £5.8m – home to Southampton

No midfielder has more big chances than the Senegal international in the past four gameweeks.

He has become a consistent statistical performer – three shots per game in that period, 10 in the box, seven on target…

With those kind of numbers – and playing against the worst team in the league – there’s a great chance of some sort of return.

James Maddison, Tottenham, £7.7m – home to Wolves

Despite their two recent wins, Wolves at home is still a plum FPL match-up – especially for a high-scoring team like Spurs.

It can feel like pot luck choosing a Tottenham midfield asset – they all have their merits – but Maddison is the top points scorer and always highly involved [when he plays].

The England man has been involved in 33% of Tottenham’s goals when he is on the pitch and they could score three or more against Wolves.

Cole Palmer (vice captain), Chelsea, £11.3m – away at Ipswich

With Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka out for a while, it feels like most teams will have Salah and Palmer.

The Chelsea talisman is on course to finish with around 300 points this season and he’d be the most important player in the game if Salah wasn’t about.

Could you captain him this week? If you’re the gambling type then why not. He outscored Salah last gameweek – by a point!

Are you ready for another exciting round of Fantasy Premier League action? Gameweek 19 is just around the corner and we’ve got some top tips and a winning team lineup to help you climb up the ranks.

First up, Mohamed Salah is a must-have in your team. The Liverpool forward has been in sensational form this season, consistently delivering points for FPL managers. With a favourable fixture against Newcastle United, Salah is a great captaincy choice for gameweek 19.

Next, Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak is a budget-friendly option for your forward line. The Swedish striker has been in fine form in La Liga and has a favourable matchup against Osasuna this week.

In defense, Joao Cancelo’s Manchester City teammate, Ruben Dias, is a solid pick. The Portuguese center-back has been a rock at the back for City and has the potential to rack up points through clean sheets and bonus points.

Lastly, Leicester City’s James Maddison is a sneaky midfield option for gameweek 19. The English playmaker has been in good form recently and has the ability to score goals and provide assists for the Foxes.

Without further ado, here’s our team of gameweek 19:

    Goalkeeper: Ederson (Manchester City)
Defenders: Ruben Dias (Manchester City), Andrew Robertson (Liverpool), Ben Chilwell (Chelsea)
Midfielders: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), James Maddison (Leicester City), Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United), Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)
Forwards: Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Alexander Isak (Real Sociedad), Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton)

Good luck with your FPL team for gameweek 19 and may your players deliver plenty of points!
