‘She ran out in flames’: As LPG tanker explosion claims its 18th victim, tales of pain from Jaipur hospital | Jaipur News

Vijita Meena (22) was on fire and still running when a bystander helped put out her flames, her father Ramachandra Meena told The Indian Express. On Wednesday, Vijita became the 18th victim of the deadly truck-gas tanker collision on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway after she died at Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh Hospital.

The incident occurred after a truck collided with an LPG tanker at 5:30 am, causing a massive explosion and fire. Five people are still stated to be in a critical condition.

Vijita, who was doing her B.Ed. from L LBS Mahila TT College, was on her way home when the blast occurred. She suffered from 70 percent burns in the accident and died at 4 am on Wednesday.

She was among the three who died at the hospital Wednesday.

“She borrowed his (the bystander’s) phone to call and tell us to come to Jaipur immediately. We have been with her since,” Meena, who’s now taking Vijita’s body back home to Pratapgarh, told The Indian Express.

According to Pradeep Sharma, the assistant superintendent of SMS Hospital, Pradeep Sharma, burns caused by LPG explosions are usually severe and patients “sometimes do not respond”.

“Five more patients are in a critical condition, and we are constantly monitoring the patients but the burns are severe,” he said.

For families of the victims, its days of pain and anguish. Mahendra (24) was on his way to Ajmer when the accident occurred, his family said. An employee with a car dealer in Jaipur, he had succumbed to his burns hours after the accident.

He’s survived by his parents and three sisters.

“We got a call from the hospital authorities at 3 pm that day, and left for Jaipur,” his uncle Madho Ram said. “His parents couldn’t identify him. He was so badly burnt.”

Like Vijita, it was 33-year-old Shahbuddin who called home to tell his family of the blast. A resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly, Shahbuddin died hours later.

“He called us to say that he had been completely burnt. He was supplying manufactured products from Ahmedabad to Jaipur and asked us to inform the owner that the vehicle was damaged in the blast,” Jibrael told The Indian Express, adding that the family now hopes for the Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia that Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to the next of kin of those who died in the blast.

The police, meanwhile, are questioning the driver of the tanker to get a clearer picture of what happened that day.  “The driver was somehow able to save his life,” DCP West Amit Budaniya said.

Radheshyam Chaudhary was crying for help as he struggled down the road. But instead of helping, most bystanders just made videos, said brother.

A motor mechanic reportedly walked 600 metres while being engulfed in flames while seeking help after a gas tanker explosion on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway on Friday.

Radheshyam Chaudhary, 32, was a motor mechanic with the National Bearings Company Limited. He left his home on his motorbike early on Friday. Later, visuals of the aftermath of the incident showed a burning man struggling to walk as he looked for help.

A stranger called Radheshyam Chaudhary’s brother Akheram at around 5:50am that morning, asking him to come to Heerapura bus terminal as his brother was in trouble. He went there with two of his neighbours.

“My brother was lying on the road. People told me he walked nearly 600 metres from the explosion site. He was crying for help as he struggled down the road. But instead of helping, most bystanders just made videos,” Akheram said, The Times of India reported.

    A dash to the hospital

The brother and two neighbours took Radheshyam Chaudhary to the hospital in a car, realising that waiting for an ambulance would be futile in the chaos. According to him, he was conscious on the way to the hospital and told them everything that happened, including giving Akheram’s number to a stranger who informed him.

He also told his brother about the moments that led up to the tragedy, recounting the ground-shaking explosion and the wave of flames that engulfed everything, including him.

Radheshyam left his bike and tried to run away from the flames. But he couldn’t as they caught up with him. Despite all that, he somehow reached a man who helped him call his brother.

The mechanic was admitted to the Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur, and his brother thought he would survive the ordeal.

“We thought he would survive. But with 85% burns, his chance of survival was a thread that snapped,” his brother said.

Radheshyam Chaudhary became one of the 13 people who lost their lives in the tragedy.

In a shocking incident in Jaipur, a man engulfed in flames walked 600m for help after a tanker blast. The horrifying incident was captured by bystanders who chose to film the scene instead of rushing to his aid.

The man’s bravery and sheer willpower to seek help despite being in excruciating pain is truly commendable. It is disheartening to see that instead of helping him, bystanders chose to prioritize filming the incident for social media.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for compassion and humanity in times of crisis. It is important to prioritize helping those in need rather than capturing their suffering for likes and shares on social media.

Our thoughts are with the man who bravely walked 600m in flames for help. We hope for his speedy recovery and urge everyone to prioritize helping others in need over capturing their pain for social media.
