It’s Wednesday, January 22, and the Boston Celtics (30-13) and the Los Angeles Clippers (24-18) are all set to square off from Intuit Dome in Inglewood.

The Celtics are currently 15-5 on the road with a point differential of +10, while the Clippers have a 7-3 record in their last ten games at home.

USC vs Nebraska College Basketball Betting Preview

I think this is a good buy-low opportunity on Nebraska, which has to eventually win a game after four consecutive losses, including two that came by one possession and another that went to overtime.

Not to mention, those four opponents shot a combined 58-for-122 (48%) from 3, so I’d imagine some positive regression will hit the Huskers soon enough.

USC has been playing much better lately, especially on the offensive side of the rock. But I don’t want to get too high on the Trojans, especially after they shot the lights out against a lifeless Iowa defense and took down a short-handed Illinois team that was without point guard Kasparas Jakucionis.

More importantly, I hate this matchup for USC.

The Trojans are an interior-based offense, scoring 35 paint points per game (per CBB Analytics) while ranking last in the Big Ten in 3-point rate (per KenPom).

They love creating off the dribble with their trio of Desmond Claude, Wesley Yates III and Saint Thomas, and they love cutting off those actions with their wings and forwards. They’ll run the offense through the post with typical posting sets alongside inside-out dribble handoff sets. And they adore shooting in the mid-range.

But Fred Hoiberg’s squad packs it in more than any college basketball defense. The Cornhuskers’ MO is complete and total post-and-paint denial, which explains why they rank in the top 20 nationally in paint points per game allowed (per CBB Analytics) and in the bottom 10 in 3-point rate allowed (per KenPom).

You have to beat the Huskers over the top and with efficient catch-and-shoot creation, which the Trojans won’t do. It’ll be tough for them to run their offense against Nebraska’s stout interior set defense.

On the other end of the court, Nebraska will run its secondary, motion-based, inside-out dribble handoff-based offense.

While USC’s roster is filled with versatile, switchable defenders, the Trojans have surprisingly graded out poorly when defending secondary actions. They don’t have a great overall defense, as they’ve been gashed at the rim and continue to allow too many 3s.

So, I think the Cornhuskers can run their stuff here. They can be a little too Brice Williams-reliant at times, but he’s a more efficient scorer at home, and he’s been very efficient in ball-screen dribble creation this year, which could be valuable against a USC defense that can’t stay in front of the dribble.

Ultimately, behind Williams and a strong defensive effort, I’m banking on Nebraska snapping its four-game losing streak convincingly.

USC vs Nebraska Predictions, Picks, Odds for Wednesday, January 22

The USC Trojans will be facing off against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Wednesday, January 22 in what promises to be an exciting college basketball matchup. Both teams have had their fair share of ups and downs this season, but they will be looking to secure a crucial win in this non-conference game.

USC comes into this game with a record of 14-3, while Nebraska sits at 7-11. The Trojans have shown flashes of brilliance this season, with wins over top-ranked teams like Oregon and Stanford. On the other hand, the Cornhuskers have struggled at times, but they have shown potential with victories over Purdue and Iowa.

In terms of predictions, USC is favored to win this game. The Trojans have a strong offense led by guards Jonah Mathews and Ethan Anderson, who are averaging a combined 25 points per game. They also have a solid defense that ranks in the top 20 nationally in points allowed per game.

Nebraska, on the other hand, will need to rely on their leading scorer, guard Cam Mack, who is averaging 12 points and 6 assists per game. The Cornhuskers will also need a strong performance from forward Dachon Burke Jr., who is averaging 11 points per game.

In terms of picks, I believe USC will come out on top in this game. The Trojans have more depth and experience than the Cornhuskers, and they have shown that they can compete with the top teams in the country. I predict a final score of USC 75, Nebraska 65.

As for the odds, USC is currently listed as a 7-point favorite, with the over/under set at 140.5 points. This game has the potential to be high-scoring, so I would lean towards taking the over in this matchup.

Overall, this game should be an exciting one to watch, with both teams looking to make a statement. USC will be looking to continue their winning ways, while Nebraska will be hoping to pull off an upset. Stay tuned for what should be a thrilling contest on Wednesday night.

What was the Celebrity Jeopardy! Final Jeopardy answer on January 15?

Celebrity Jeopardy! season 3 rolls along with its second game in the quarterfinals of its primetime tournament on ABC on January 15. Stars from TV, movies, sports and elsewhere are going to test their knowledge to raise money for charities. As is habit for Jeopardy! fans, you probably like to play along at home, attempting to answer the prompts in the form of a question before the contestants do.

But if you were unable to watch this episode live, we want to give you the chance to still play along by sharing with you the Celebrity Jeopardy! Final Jeopardy prompt from January 15. FYI, if you want to watch the whole episode to try and answer all the questions, the latest episodes of Celebrity Jeopardy! season 3 land on Hulu on Thursdays.

This week the stars competing on Celebrity Jeopardy! are Happy’s Place star Melissa Peterman, astrophysicists Neil deGrasse Tyson and Nobody Wants This actress Jackie Tohn. Heading into Final Jeopardy, Peterman ($12,900) and Tyson ($12,100) were almost neck-and-neck, but Tohn was lurking with $7,900. And the category that they would make their wagers on? The Muppets.

You can find the Final Jeopardy prompt below. See if you can answer it yourself and find out how the Celebrity Jeopardy! contestants did.

What was the Celebrity Jeopardy! Final Jeopardy clue on January 15?

Again, with the category of The Muppets, here was the Final Jeopardy clue: “Three crates are shipped abroad in 1981’s The Great Muppet Caper: ‘Frog’ holds Kermit, ‘Bear’ holds Fozzie & ‘Whatever’ holds this muppet.”

Take 30 seconds to see if you can come up with the correct response. You can play the classic Final Jeopardy tune (courtesy of the legend John Williams) to help you’re thinking process.

What was the Celebrity Jeopardy! Final Jeopardy answer on January 15?

And the answer is…

Who is Gonzo?

Tohn “went with her boy Gonzo,” which was the right answer, adding $4,500 dollars to her score and bringing her to a total of $12,400. That moved her ahead of Tyson, answered Snuffleupagus (of Sesame Street) and dropped down to $8,399 for his final total. So it all came down to Peterman’s knowledge of The Muppets. Unfortunately, she guessed Animal and made a big wager of $10,001, dropping her to $2,899 and third place.

That means that Tohn stage a late comeback from third place to first to advance to the semifinals. Peterman and Tyson, meanwhile, won $30,000 for their charities, Diana Disalvatore Nursing Scholarship at St. Catherine University and Strive.

New episodes of Celebrity Jeopardy! season 3 premiere Wednesdays on ABC, then become available to stream on-demand on Hulu every Thursday.

Will Luka Doncic play tonight against the Minnesota Timberwolves? Latest update on the Dallas Mavericks star’s injury report (January 22, 2025)

Will Luka Doncic play tonight against the Minnesota Timberwolves? Latest update on the Dallas Mavericks star's injury report (January 22, 2025)

The Dallas Mavericks are set to face the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight at the American Airlines Center, but all eyes remain on Luka Doncic‘s injury status. The star guard has been sidelined since Christmas Day with a calf injury, and fans are eager to know if he will make his much-anticipated return to the court.
Luka Doncic sustained the injury during a game against the same Timberwolves team they are set to face tonight. Since his absence, the Dallas Mavericks have struggled, winning only four of their last 13 games. Before the injury, Doncic was averaging 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game, making his absence a significant blow to Dallas’ campaign. Reports indicate that the Slovenian guard is making progress in his recovery and could return before the All-Star break.

Luka Doncic

Luka Doncic (Image via USA TODAY Sports)

In addition to Luka Doncic, the Dallas Mavericks are dealing with multiple injuries that have hampered their season. Klay Thompson, another key player, is listed as questionable due to a left ankle sprain. Meanwhile, Jaden Hardy (right ankle sprain), Dante Exum (recovering from right wrist surgery), and Dwight Powell (right hip strain) have all been ruled out for tonight’s matchup. Quentin Grimes (back spasms), Dereck Lively II (right ankle sprain), and Naji Marshall (illness) are also listed as questionable, further complicating the team’s rotation.
Despite these setbacks, the Dallas Mavericks are hopeful that Luka Doncic’s return will provide the much-needed boost to their playoff aspirations. The Minnesota Timberwolves, on the other hand, have had a relatively better run this season, though they are coming off two consecutive losses. They will be looking to capitalize on the Mavericks’ injury struggles and get back in the win column.
As the game approaches, fans are left wondering whether “Luka Magic” will grace the court tonight or if they will have to wait a little longer. Regardless, the matchup promises to be an exciting battle as Dallas fights to stay competitive in the Western Conference standings.
With or without Luka Doncic, the Dallas Mavericks need to find consistency and resilience to overcome their current challenges and keep their postseason hopes alive.
Also read: Will Jonathan Kuminga play tonight against the Sacramento Kings? Latest update on the Golden State Warriors star’s injury report (January 22, 2025)

Let us know if you want to watch the Dallas Mavericks play tonight without their star guard. We feel that the game will not be any less entertaining with Doncic’s presence on the court.

As the Dallas Mavericks prepare to face off against the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight, fans are eagerly awaiting the latest update on star player Luka Doncic’s injury status. Doncic, who has been dealing with a nagging ankle injury, has missed the last few games and his absence has been felt on the court.

According to the latest injury report, Doncic is listed as questionable for tonight’s game against the Timberwolves. The Mavericks coaching staff and medical team are closely monitoring his progress and will make a game-time decision on his availability.

Doncic’s presence on the court is crucial for the Mavericks, as he is a dynamic playmaker and scorer who can take over games. However, the team will prioritize his long-term health and well-being, so they will not rush him back if he is not fully ready to play.

Fans will have to wait for the official announcement closer to game time to see if Doncic will be suiting up tonight. In the meantime, Mavericks supporters are hoping for a speedy recovery for their star player so he can return to action and lead the team to victory. Stay tuned for more updates on Luka Doncic’s injury status.

NHL Predictions: Expert Picks on Wednesday, January 22

NHL Predictions – Expert Picks on Wednesday, January 22:

Here are tonight’s NHL predictions:

7 p.m. ET

This line has gotten way out of hand. New Jersey opened as a (-165) home favorite and has been bet up to (-235) across the board. I realize the Bruins are banged up, but New Jersey is just 12-11 as a home favorite. I should mention that Boston on the road is no great shakes either, just nine wins in 24 games away from home and (4-11) as a road underdog. Even with that, the Bruins are worth a shot.

While the money line has shot up, the total has dropped, going from 6.5 to 5.5. The Devils are on an 18-2-1 run to games going under the total. In addition, the first period Under 1.5 goals has cashed in 16 of the last 19 New Jersey games. A goal in the first ten minutes has cashed in 10 of the last 11 Bruins games.

Tonight’s goaltending matchup has Jeremy Swayman for the Bruins and Jacob Markstrom for the Devils. David Pastrnak has five goals and 11 points in the last four games. Pastrnak has 11 career goals versus New Jersey. His teammate, Pavel Zacha. has three goals in five games against the Devils.

On the New Jersey side, there are three players with some nice prices for anytime goals that caught my eye. Paul Cotter has three goals in three games versus Swayman, Tomas Tatar has five goals in eight games, while Dawson Mercer has two goals in three games versus the Bruins netminder.

NHL Predictions: Paul Cotter anytime goal (+440) – ½ unit
Dawson Mercer anytime goal (+340) – ½ unit
Tomas Tatar anytime goal (+600) – ½ unit
David Pastrnak anytime goal (+160) – ½ unit
Goal 1st 10/Yes (-140) – 1.5 units
1st Period Under 1.5 goals (-110) – 1.5 units
Boston Bruins/New Jersey Devils Under 5.5 (-102) – 1.5 units
Boston Bruins ML (+180) – ½ unit

7:30 p.m. ET

Toronto opened as a (-235) home favorite, but with the announcement of Dennis Hildeby being announced as the Leafs starter, we have seen that line dip a little to (-200). Columbus has been awful on the road, with just six wins in 23 games as compared to 16 wins in 24 home games. The Jackets have played to the Under on the road, and the Leafs are more of an Under team at home than they are on the road.

A couple of player props that I will target include Kent Johnson and Adam Fantilli of the Blue Jackets. Johnson has seven points in six games against the Maple Leafs.

The Leafs Auston Matthews (five goals in the last four games) and Mitch Marner (seven assists in the last four games) have both put up big numbers against the Jackets in their careers.

Matthews has 13 goals in 16 games against the Jackets, while Marner has 18 assists in 20 games. I usually don’t parlay player props, but I will in this case so we can get a plus money return on our wager.

Lastly, Maple Leafs games have featured a goal in the first 10 minutes in nine straight and 17 of the last 20 contests.

NHL Predictions: Goal in the 1st 10/Yes (-166) – 1.5 Units
Auston Matthews anytime goal/Mitch Marner Over ½ assist (+124) – 1.5 units
Adam Fantilli Over ½ point (-115) – ½ unit
Kent Johson Over ½ point (+122) – ½ unitBest of the Rest:
Adrian Kempe Over ½ assist (+124), anytime goal (+190) – both ¼ unit plays
Carter Verhaeghe Over ½ assist (+200), anytime goal (+280) – both ¼ unit plays
Aleksander Barkov anytime goal (+250), Over ½ assist (+118) – both ¼ unit plays

Utah vs Houston College Basketball Betting Preview

Houston looked shaky against UCF, allowing the Knights to hang around by crashing the offensive glass en route to 15 second-chance points.

However, the Cougars shot just 3-for-16 (19%) from 3, which is pretty unrepresentative of this team’s shooting prowess. Houston is shooting over 40% from 3 on the year, and I don’t suspect much regression is in store, given ShotQuality projects the Cougars should be shooting around there based on the “quality” of attempts taken.

They’ll play host to Utah on Wednesday. The Utes are due for a letdown loss after three consecutive wins, including an overtime home victory in the Holy War.

The Utes don’t play well on the road, losing three of their four road games, including blowout defeats at Baylor (81-56) and Iowa State (82-59). They rank 348th nationally in Haslametrics’ Away From Home metric, and it won’t get easier at Houston.

From a schematic perspective, Utah has struggled with rebounding and ball handling in conference play, which are the two things you can’t do against Houston. The Utes also love pressuring the rim in transition and through cuts and rolls, which will be impossible against the nation’s best transition-and-rim-denial defense.

With all that said, Utah does have a path to a cover.

The Utes are a surprisingly effective attack-and-kick catch-and-shoot squad, grading out as elite in ShotQuality’s Spacing and Shot Selection metrics. That’s the best way to beat Houston’s ball-screen blitz, as the Cougars’ aggressive two-to-the-ball defense will leave weak-side spot-up shooters open.

On the other end of the court, Houston will play through ball screens and the post, and I’m uncertain how effective the Cougars will be.

The Utes are a rock-solid post-up defense (.75 PPP allowed, 84th percentile, per Synergy) because they’re massive on the interior behind 6-foot-10 Jake Wahlin and 7-foot-1 Lawson Lovering. Also, they’re an above-average ball-screen coverage squad (.86 PPP allowed, 53rd percentile, per Synergy).

There are too many conflicting factors for me to bet on this game. But, if I had to, I’d lay the big number with the Cougars, as most projection systems make them more than a 20-point home favorite on Thursday. They could dominate the shot-volume battle.

The Utah Jazz will face off against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday, January 22. Both teams are looking to secure a win in this matchup, so let’s take a look at some predictions, picks, and odds for the game.

The Utah Jazz have been on a hot streak lately, winning four of their last five games. They currently hold the second spot in the Western Conference with a record of 30-13. They have been led by the dynamic duo of Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, who have been averaging a combined 45 points per game.

On the other hand, the Houston Rockets have been struggling as of late, losing five of their last six games. They currently sit in the sixth spot in the Western Conference with a record of 26-16. Despite the struggles, James Harden has been putting up MVP-caliber numbers, averaging 36 points per game.

In terms of odds, the Utah Jazz are favored to win this game with a spread of -4.5. The over/under is set at 225 points.

Prediction: The Utah Jazz are the more well-rounded team and are playing better basketball at the moment. I predict they will come out on top in this matchup.

Pick: Utah Jazz -4.5

Odds: Utah Jazz -4.5, Houston Rockets +4.5, Over/Under 225 points.
