The No. 18 Illinois Fighting Illini will face off against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on January 30th in a highly anticipated college basketball matchup. Both teams are looking to secure a crucial win as they battle it out on the court.

The Fighting Illini come into this game with a 13-5 record, while the Cornhuskers have a 4-12 record so far this season. Illinois will be looking to continue their winning streak and improve their standing in the Big Ten conference, while Nebraska will be looking to pull off an upset and secure a much-needed victory.

In terms of betting odds, Illinois is favored to win this game. The experts are also leaning towards the Fighting Illini, with many predicting a comfortable victory for them. However, anything can happen in college basketball, and the Cornhuskers will be looking to prove the doubters wrong and come out on top.

When it comes to betting trends, Illinois has been performing well against the spread, covering in the majority of their games this season. Nebraska, on the other hand, has struggled to cover the spread in recent matchups. This is definitely something to keep in mind when placing your bets on this game.

In terms of stats, Illinois has a strong offense led by star player Ayo Dosunmu, who is averaging over 21 points per game. Nebraska will need to step up their defense to contain Dosunmu and the rest of the Fighting Illini’s high-scoring offense.

Overall, this should be an exciting and competitive game between two Big Ten rivals. Illinois will be looking to continue their winning ways, while Nebraska will be looking to pull off a major upset. Make sure to tune in on January 30th to see who comes out on top in this exciting matchup.

  • Lauri Markkanen Injury Update: January 28 vs. Warriors

Alex Hunter gives an injury update for Jazz PF Lauri Markkanen (injury management), who will miss Tuesday’s game vs. the Warriors.

Playing their second game in two nights, the Jazz have ruled out Lauri Markkanen (injury management) for Tuesday’s matchup with the Warriors, along with Walker Kessler (shoulder), John Collins (illness), Jordan Clarkson (injury management) and Cody Williams (ankle). Ruling out all these players isn’t a surprise for this Utah team that has been tanking all season and Markkanen and the rest of these inactive players should be back in the lineup Thursday when the Jazz host the Timberwolves.

After averaging 23.2 PPG last season, Markkanen has taken a step backwards this season, averaging 19.7 points and 6.1 rebounds per game in 35 starts. Tuesday will mark the third time this season that Utah has been without Markkanen, Kessler, Collins and Clarkson and, with these four key players missing, Collin Sexton ($7,000), Keyonte George ($6,700) and Isaiah Collier ($5,200) should see huge roles and are all strong DFS options for Tuesday’s four-game slate. With Markkanen, Kessler, Collins and Clarkson inactive this season, George, Collier and Sexton are leading the team with 41.5, 40.5 and 37.1 FPTS per game, respectively. Svi Mykhailiuk ($4,500) also should see an expanded role and is a great cheap option. In the two games he has played without Markkanen, Kessler, Collins and Clarkson this season, Mykhailiuk is averaging 26.3 FPTS in 22.3 minutes per game.

Lastly, Drew Eubanks ($4,100) should start at center with the Jazz so thin up front and is a terrific punt play at his cheap salary. Eubanks has started in both games the Jazz have been without Markkanen, Kessler, Collins and Clarkson this season, and he has supplied 32.5 FPTS in 28.1 minutes per game with the first unit.

The Jazz are 4-6 without Markkanen this season and they are a 13.5-point underdog vs. the Warriors on DraftKings Sportsbook for Tuesday night.

Chicago Bulls forward Lauri Markkanen suffered a hip injury during the game against the Golden State Warriors on January 28. Markkanen left the game in the fourth quarter and did not return.

The team announced that Markkanen underwent further evaluation and he is listed as day-to-day. The extent of his injury and his availability for upcoming games is still uncertain.

Markkanen has been a key player for the Bulls this season, averaging 18.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. His absence will be felt on the court, but the team is hopeful for a speedy recovery.

Stay tuned for more updates on Lauri Markkanen’s injury and his status for future games.

  • Zaccharie Risacher Uncertain for Hawks with Hamstring Strain on January 27, 2025

Zaccharie Risacher is dealing with a left hamstring strain. He is uncertain to play for the Atlanta Hawks in their upcoming game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on January 27, 2025.

Risacher has played in 38 games this season and missed seven. The team averages 117.8 points per game when he plays and 109.3 points when he does not. The Hawks have a record of 20-18 with him and are 2-4 without him.

This season, Risacher averages 10.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. He has made an average of 1.2 three-pointers per game with a shooting percentage of 40.3%. His three-point shooting percentage stands at 28.1%.

The Atlanta Hawks are facing uncertainty with guard Zaccharie Risacher after he suffered a hamstring strain during a recent game. Risacher, who has been a key contributor for the team this season, will be re-evaluated in the coming days to determine the severity of the injury and his potential return timeline.

The injury comes at a critical time for the Hawks, who are currently in the midst of a playoff push. Risacher’s absence could have a significant impact on the team’s performance, as he has been a reliable scorer and playmaker on both ends of the court.

Head coach Mike Budenholzer expressed concern over Risacher’s injury, stating that the team will need to adjust their game plan in his absence. The Hawks will look to other players to step up and fill the void left by Risacher, but his absence will undoubtedly be felt on the court.

Fans are hopeful that Risacher will make a speedy recovery and return to action soon, but for now, his status remains uncertain. Stay tuned for updates on his condition as the Hawks continue their season.

  • Islanders Gameday News: A January to remember

The Islanders are finally back on the road for their third meeting of the month with the Philadelphia Flyers. The teams split the previous two meetings on Long Island, but now the Isles are looking to close out a month in which they’re 8-3 thus far.

Philadelphia is playing the second (but little travel) end of a back-to-back after losing badly in Newark last night, splitting a home-and-home with their neighbors.

The Isles, of course, have a shocking five-game win streak on the line and have won 8 of their last 10. The Flyers are one point ahead of them (but have played three more games) and are one of several teams standing between them and the wild card that they’re not going to get.

First Islanders Goal picks go here.

The New York Islanders are heating up as they head into the final stretch of January, with a record of 6-2-1 so far this month. This hot streak has catapulted them into second place in the Metropolitan Division and has fans buzzing with excitement.

In their most recent game, the Islanders dominated the Pittsburgh Penguins with a 4-1 victory, showcasing their depth and skill on both ends of the ice. Goalie Semyon Varlamov was a standout player, making crucial saves to keep the Penguins at bay and secure the win.

The team’s offense has been firing on all cylinders, with captain Anders Lee leading the way with 10 goals in January. The power play unit has also been clicking, converting on multiple opportunities to give the Islanders an edge in close games.

As the Islanders gear up for their upcoming matchups against division rivals, including the Washington Capitals and the Philadelphia Flyers, they are looking to continue their winning ways and solidify their position in the standings.

With their strong play in January, the Islanders are proving that they are a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference. Fans are hopeful that this success will continue into the second half of the season and potentially lead to a deep playoff run.

Stay tuned for more Islanders gameday news as they look to make January a month to remember. Let’s go Islanders!

LaMelo Ball Injury Status – Hornets vs. Nets Injury Report January 29

As the Charlotte Hornets prepare to face off against the Brooklyn Nets on January 29, all eyes are on the injury status of star point guard LaMelo Ball. Ball, who has been a key player for the Hornets this season, suffered a wrist injury in a recent game and his status for the upcoming matchup is uncertain.

Ball’s injury has been a major concern for the Hornets, as he has been averaging 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists per game this season. His dynamic playmaking and scoring ability have been crucial to the team’s success, and his absence would be a significant blow.

The Hornets will be closely monitoring Ball’s progress leading up to the game against the Nets, as they look to secure a crucial win in the competitive Eastern Conference. Stay tuned for updates on LaMelo Ball’s injury status and how it may impact the Hornets’ chances against the Nets.

  • NHL Predictions: Expert Picks on Thursday, January 30

NHL Predictions – Expert Picks on Thursday, January 30:

    Here are tonight’s NHL predictions:

    7 p.m. ET

From a betting standpoint, this is my favorite game on the card tonight. We have the Blackhawks coming off a rare game when they didn’t cash the first period Over 1.5 (just the second time in the last 17 games). Both Chicago and Carolina have been a great bet on a goal in the first 10 minutes of the game (Yes). The Blackhawks have cashed this wager in 12 of their last 14 games. The Hurricanes are on a 16-5 run at home with a goal being scored in the first 10 minutes of their games.

From a player prop standpoint, we have Taylor Hall facing his former team for the first time since the trade and Teuvo Teravainen playing his first game in Carolina since signing with the Blackhawks in the offseason. Mikko Rantanen is still in search of his first goal with the Hurricanes, but he has cashed his shots on goal prop (Over 2.5) in each of his two games with Carolina. At the time of this writing, I still have not been able to find a point or assist prop for Taylor Hall.

I will also grab the Blackhawks on the money line. These two teams met 10 days ago in Chicago, with the Canes battling back from down 3-1 before squeezing out a 4-3 overtime win. I know Carolina has dominated this match up, winning 9 of 10, 17 of 20 and 21 of the last 30 meetings, but at +360, it’s worth a pizza money bet.

    NHL Predictions: Goal in the 1st 10 minutes/Yes (-165) – 2 units
    1st Period Over 1.5 (-140) – 2 units
    Mikko Rantanen Over 2.5 SOG (-155) – 1 unit
    Teuvo Teravainen Over ½ point (+126) – ¼ unit
    Chicago Blackhawks ML (+360) – ¼ unit
    Chicago Blackhawks +1.5 (+142) – ¼ unit

    7 p.m. ET

A matchup between two teams that are massively trending to games going Under the total. Washington Capitals games have gone Under the total in 10 consecutive games, and Ottawa is on a 15-1-1 run to the Under. Capitals goalie Logan Thompson has given up two or fewer goals in 10 of his last 12 starts.  Thompson is 4-1 lifetime against Ottawa with a goals against average of two and one shutout.

Caps games have gone Under the total in the first period in eight of the last 10 games, and Ottawa has gone Under in the first period in seven of their last nine games.

These two teams met back on January 16 in Ottawa, with the Caps coming away with a 1-0 overtime win. It should have come as no surprise the game went past 60 minutes. It was the fourth time in the last six meetings they have needed extra time to decide a winner.

    NHL Predictions: 1st Period Under 1.5 (-120) – 1.5 units
    Full Game Under 5.5. (-130) – 1.5 units
    Regulation Draw (+290) – ¼ unit

    7 p.m. ET

Scoring goals has been a massive problem for the LA Kings of late. LA was shut out last night (3-0) by the Florida Panthers and have scored two goals or less in 10 of their last 11 games. With the Kings being a shutout victim last night, they fell into our system plays (Goal 1st 10 minutes and 1st period Over 1.5). The Kings’ 5-2 record on the second half of a back-to-back looks good on the surface, but the two losses are as a road underdog, which is the situation they are in tonight at Tampa. For the season, LA is 3-9 as a road underdog and 6-8 as the road favorite.

The numbers only get worse when it comes to playing in Tampa for Los Angeles. The Kings have lost eight straight and nine of 10  in Tampa. Four of the last five contests in Tampa have gone past regulation, with the Lightning winning all four games.

David Rittich is expected to get the start in goal for LA tonight, as Darcy Kuemper played last night against the Panthers. Rittich has struggled on the road this season, with just three wins in 11 road starts. His 3.20 GAA away from home is a full goal higher than when he plays at home (2.11). He is 0-3 in his career against the Lightning with a goals against average of 4.22.

    NHL Predictions: Goal in the 1st 10/Yes (-145) – 2 units
    1st Period Over 1.5 (-125) – 1 unit
Tampa Bay Lightning ML (-140) – 1 unit
    Regulation Draw (+310) – ¼ unit

    7 p.m. ET

The Wild are coming off a hard-fought win at Toronto last night and are on the second half of a back-to-back tonight at Montreal. Minnesota is 3-5 on the back end of back-backs this season. They have lost all four times when they have been a road dog in this spot. But the Wild have owned the Habs over the years, winning nine of 10 and 17 of 18. Tonight will be the final game in Montreal of Marc-Andre Fleury’s career. The Quebec native will have more than 100 family and friends in the building. “Always feel such an honor to play on (the Canadiens’) ice,” Fleury said. “It’ll be very special, for sure.”

Fleury will be opposed by Jakub Dobes at the other end of the ice. Dobes had his five-game win streak to start the season come to an end with a 4-3 overtime loss to New Jersey on Saturday. Outside of his debut (4-0 shutout over Florida), the Habs have given up the first goal of the game in all but one of his six starts.

Matt Boldy has five goals in six games against the Canadiens. Marcus Foligno has goals in three straight.

NHL Predictions: Minnesota Wild ML (+120) – 1.5 units
Minnesota Wild to score the first goal (-105) – ½ unit
Matt Boldy anytime goal (+180) – ¼ unit
Marcus Foligno anytime goal (+460)- ¼ unit

    7:30 p.m. ET

This game opened with both teams at (-110) and has since seen the Islanders move to a road favorite (-125). According to our VSIN Betting Splits page, the Islanders are getting 58% of the bets and 87% of the money. Why does the line move, you ask? The Flyers are on the second half of a back-to-back and are a horrendous (1-8) on the back end of back-to-backs this season, including a 3-1 loss to the Islanders on January 24. The Islanders have won five straight, giving up two goals or less in all five. They have given up two or fewer goals in eight of their last nine games. Ivan Fedotov gets the start in goal for the Flyers. He has lost six of his last seven starts. Philly has scored two goals or less in six of his last seven starts. Brock Nelson has two goals in two games against Ivan Fedotov.

NHL Predictions: New York Islanders ML (-125) – 1.5 units
    Philadelphia Flyers TT Under 2.5 (+105) – ½ unit
Brock Nelson anytime goal (+230) – ¼ unit

    9 p.m. ET

The first wager that caught my attention when looking at this game is the goal in the first 10 minutes prop. Ducks games have had a goal in the first 10 scored in nine of their last 10 games and eleven of their last 15 games on the road. Seven of the last nine Calgary games have had a goal scored in the first 10 minutes.

The Flames have won eight of the last 10 meetings, but the Ducks have won two of the last three in Calgary. The Ducks have scored three or more goals in their last three trips to Calgary. The Flames have given up three or more goals in each of their last three games, losing two of their last three overall. The Ducks have scored 16 goals in their last three games. Anaheim has won 20 of 22 games this season when scoring three or more goals.

One player prop that jumped off the page for me. Andrei Kuzmenko has 10 goals in eight games against the Ducks and four goals in three games against Ducks goalie Lukas Dostal.

    NHL Prediction: Goal in the 1st 10/Yes (-145) – 1 unit
    Anaheim Ducks TT over 2.5 (-125) – 1 unit
    Anaheim Ducks ML (+145) – ½ unit
Andrei Kuzmenko anytime goal (+470) – ¼ unit
Mason McTavish anytime goal (+320) – ¼ unit

  • Projected Lineup: January 30 vs. Chicago

RALEIGH, N.C. – Forward Sebastian Aho will be a game-time decision for the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday when they take on the Chicago Blackhawks.

According to Rod Brind’Amour, the team’s star center “didn’t feel well when he got to the rink” this morning. He returned home before taking part in the morning skate with the team. If Aho is not able to go, it would be the second consecutive contest that they’d be missing someone up front due to illness, after Jack Roslovic had to sit out Tuesday’s win over New York.

On a positive note though, Roslovic was back with the team this morning, working in Aho’s spot between Mikko Rantanen and Jackson Blake. Among players who have played for the team all season, only Seth Jarvis (19) has more goals than Roslovic (18).

Behind the cast of skaters, the team is expected to turn to Pyotr Kochetkov (18-9-3 | 2.48 GAA | .903 SV%) between the pipes on Thursday as they aim to move their point streak to seven games.

With a 3-0-2 mark in his last five appearances, the 25-year-old backstop has gotten into an every-other-game rotation with Frederik Andersen since the Dane returned from knee surgery early last week.
