  • Elizabeth Gillies and Milo Manheim Join LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS Off Broadway

Suddenly Milo! This morning it was announced that Elizabeth Gilles and Milo Manheim are set to join the Off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors next month. Gillies who has previously been on Broadway in 13 and most well known for her turn on Victorious stars as Audrey opposite Milo Manheim, most well known for Disney’s Zombies franchise. The duo plus Broadway vet Jeremy Kushnier will join the company Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at the Westside Theatre.

Current stars, three-time Tony Award nominee Sherie Rene Scott and Broadway star Nicholas Christopher will play their final performances in Little Shop of Horrors as Audrey and Seymour, respectively, on Sunday, February 23, 2025.  They are currently joined in the cast by Reg Rogers as Mushnik, Major Attaway as The Voice of Audrey II, Tiffany Renee Thompson as Ronnette, Daria Pilar Redus as Crystal, and Morgan Ashley Bryant as Chiffon, as well as Camryn Hampton, Michael Iannucci, Weston Chandler Long, Jeff Sears, Teddy Yudain, Melissa Victor, Noel MacNeal, Johnny Newcomb, Jonothon Lyons, Christine Wanda, and Savannah Lee Birdsong. Teddy Yudain covers the role of Dr. Orin Scrivello through February 23.

Seymour is a down-on-his-luck florist with a crush on his co-worker Audrey. When he discovers a mysterious – and voracious – plant, suddenly Seymour and Audrey are thrust into an epic battle that will determine the fate of the entire human race. Little Shop of Horrors first premiered Off-Broadway in 1982, where it made audiences laugh, scream, and give up gardening for good. The musical has since catapulted into a global phenomenon, with productions across the world from Broadway to London’s West End, to Asia and Australia – plus a hit 1986 film adaptation directed by Frank Oz that starred Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene and Steve Martin. Now, the musical has made its highly-anticipated return home to Off-Broadway, in an intimate new production directed by Michael Mayer that offers an unprecedented opportunity to get close — maybe too close — to an incredible plant with an insatiable appetite.

With a book and lyrics by Grammy and Academy Award winner Howard Ashman (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast), and music by Tony and Academy Award winner Alan Menken (Aladdin, Newsies), the 2020 Drama League, Outer Critics Circle, and Drama Desk Award-winning Best Musical Revival. The show is directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Spring Awakening).

The beloved musical, which tells the story of a down-on-his-luck florist who discovers a mysterious plant with a taste for human blood, is set to be a must-see event with these two talented stars on board.

Gillies, known for her roles in TV shows like Victorious and Dynasty, will be taking on the role of Audrey, the sweet and naive love interest of the protagonist Seymour. With her powerhouse vocals and undeniable charisma, Gillies is sure to bring a fresh and dynamic take to the character.

Manheim, who gained fame for his role in the hit Disney Channel movie Zombies, will be stepping into the role of Seymour, the hapless florist who becomes entangled in a web of deceit and murder as the plant he cares for grows larger and more demanding. Manheim’s youthful energy and charm are sure to make him a perfect fit for the role.

  • Bo Nickal claims Ilia Topuria vs. Alexander Volkanovski 2 ‘official’ for UFC 314, hopes to join them on card

Bo Nickal knows something nobody else knows about the upcoming UFC 314 pay-per-view.

The multi-time NCAA champion wrestler turned top prospect revealed on his podcast that UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria is expected to defend his title against Alexander Volkanovski in one of the marquee fights headed to the card on April 12 with all signs pointing towards Miami as the destination. While he didn’t reveal his sources, Nickal shares the same management company as Topuria and he hopes to join him on that card for his first fight in 2025.

“It’s official,” Nickal said about Topuria vs. Volkanovski 2 on his YouTube channel. “I know for a fact. I don’t know that it was announced for a fact, but I know it’s happening for a fact. I’m announcing it.

“I might fight on that card. That’s the card I’m trying to fight on. April, Miami.”

UFC officials haven’t announced the main event for the card but several bouts have already been confirmed for that date including a showdown between two-time light heavyweight title contender Dominick Reyes and Nikita Krylov.

Nickal last fought at UFC 309 this past November where he earned a unanimous decision win over Paul Craig in a bout that earned him a lot of criticism for failing to dazzle after spending the majority of the 15-minute affair on the feet. With a background in wrestling, Nickal had largely dominated his competition thus far through grappling but he turned to his striking to best Craig.

He didn’t mention any potential opponents but Nickal wants to fight on that card, which is currently expected to take place close to his home gym where he trains at American Top Team in Florida.

As for the Topuria rematch against Volkanovski, Nickal admits he’s not all that enthusiastic about the fight considering how things played out the first time around.

Topuria scored a vicious second-round knockout on Volkanovski to claim the UFC featherweight title before defending the belt with a win over Max Holloway this past October. Despite the setback, Volkanovski was promised an immediate rematch with Topuria and now it sounds like that’s close to a reality for him with UFC 314 just around the corner.

In an ideal world, Nickal admits he would like to see Topuria get the chance to go up to 155 pounds to challenge Islam Makhachev for his title, but it doesn’t sound like that’s happening any time soon.

“Ilia and Islam would be sick,” Nickal said. “I don’t know about Ilia and Volk rematch. I mean I get it. Volk had to rematch [Max] Holloway a bunch of times. He knocked [Volkanovski] out clean. Bad. I love Volk, he’s great. I don’t see a path to victory for him really.”

Penn State wrestling legend Bo Nickal took to social media today to announce that the highly anticipated rematch between Ilia Topuria and Alexander Volkanovski has been made ‘official’ for UFC 314. Nickal, who has been vocal about his desire to transition to MMA, expressed his excitement for the matchup and hinted at the possibility of making his UFC debut on the same card.

Topuria and Volkanovski first clashed in a barnburner of a fight at UFC 300, with Topuria emerging victorious in a close decision. Fans have been eagerly awaiting a rematch ever since, and it seems that their wish has finally been granted.

Nickal, a three-time NCAA champion and one of the most promising prospects in MMA, is no stranger to big stages and tough competition. If he does indeed make his UFC debut at UFC 314, it will undoubtedly be a must-watch event for fight fans around the world.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development, as well as any potential additions to the UFC 314 card.

  • Serbian farmers join striking university students’ 24-hour traffic blockade in Belgrade

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Serbia’s striking university students on Monday launched a 24-hour blockade of a key traffic intersection in the capital, Belgrade, stepping up pressure on the populist authorities over a deadly canopy collapse in November that killed 15 people.

Serbian farmers on tractors and thousands of citizens joined the blockade that followed weeks of protests demanding accountability of the deadly accident in the northern city of Novi Sad that critics have blamed on rampant government corruption.

A campaign of street demonstrations has posed the biggest challenge in years to the populist government’s firm grip on power in Serbia.

Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic, at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Milos Vucevic and Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic, later on Monday urged dialogue with the students, saying that “we need to lower the tensions and start talking to each other.”

Students in the past have refused to meet with Vucic, saying the president is not entitled by the constitution to hold talks with them.

“Any kind of a crisis poses a serious problem for our economy,” said Vucic. “Such a situation in society is not good for anyone.”

Vucic has faced accusations of curbing democratic freedoms despite formally seeking European Union membership for Serbia. He has accused the students of working for unspecified foreign powers to oust the government.

Several incidents have marked the street demonstrations in the past weeks, including drivers ramming into the crowds on two occasions, when two young women were injured.

Traffic police on Monday secured the student blockade to help avoid any similar incidents. Protesting students set up tents at the protest site, which is a key artery for the city commuters and toward the main north-south motorway.

Some students played volleyball, others sat down on blankets on the pavement or walked around on a warm day. The students also held a daily 15-minute commemoration silence at 11.52, the exact same time when the canopy at a train station in Novi Sad crashed down on Nov. 1.

Many in Serbia believe the huge concrete canopy fell down because of sloppy reconstruction work that resulted from corruption.

Serbia’s prosecutors have filed charges against 13 people, including a government minister and several state officials. But the former construction minister Goran Vesic has been released from detention, fueling doubts over the investigation’s independence.

The main railway station in Novi Sad was renovated twice in recent years as part of a wider infrastructure deal with Chinese state companies.

In a show of solidarity and support, Serbian farmers have joined striking university students in a 24-hour traffic blockade in Belgrade. The students have been protesting against government reforms to the education system, while the farmers are protesting against unfair treatment and lack of government support for their agricultural industry.

The joint blockade, which took place near the city center, caused major disruptions to traffic and drew attention to the grievances of both groups. The farmers brought tractors and livestock to the protest, adding a rural flair to the urban demonstration.

The collaboration between the students and farmers highlights the widespread dissatisfaction with the government’s policies and the growing solidarity among different sectors of society. By joining forces, they are sending a powerful message to the authorities that their voices cannot be ignored.

As the blockade continues, the students and farmers are determined to make their demands heard and bring about meaningful change. The unity and determination of these two groups serve as a powerful reminder of the strength that can be found in solidarity and collective action.

  • Russell Wilson Reportedly a ‘Strong Option’ to Join Pete Carroll With Raiders

Cincinnati Bengals: New Defensive Coordinator Hopes to Help Bengals Start Faster in 2025

Getting off to slow starts has been a recent problem for the Cincinnati Bengals. They are 7-14-1 in September since Zac Taylor became their head coach, and new Defensive Coordinator Al Golden wants to help solve that problem.

“That’s kind of an in-house thing, like, what do we need to do in-house wise to solve that problem?” Golden said to Bengals radio play-by-play voice Dan Hoard, via Si.com. ”That’s a sensitive subject in terms of we all know that that’s something that will be on the docket this offseason in terms of starting faster. But in terms of giving you ideas, I think it’s best to keep that in-house and work through Zac on that.”

Golden was linebackers coach with the Bengals for two seasons (2020-21) before leaving to become Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator. Now that he’s back, Golden and Taylor want to help the Bengals become kingpins in the AFC North again, as they were in 2021-22, before the Ravens won the past two division titles.

“I think you’ve got to understand our division that we play in,” said Taylor, via Geoff Hobson of the team’s website. “You’re going to play six (division games) a year. That’s going to dictate, really, where you end up at the end of the season.

“I think this division is different. I think when people come and they play all four teams in this division, they feel that immediately. You’re certainly (going to) need a coordinator who has an understanding of that.”

According to recent reports, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is being considered as a “strong option” to join forces with his former head coach Pete Carroll in Las Vegas with the Raiders.

Wilson, who has spent his entire career with the Seahawks, has been the subject of trade rumors in recent weeks. The Raiders, who are looking to upgrade at the quarterback position, are reportedly interested in acquiring Wilson to lead their offense.

Carroll and Wilson enjoyed a successful partnership in Seattle, winning a Super Bowl together in 2014. The prospect of reuniting with his former coach could be enticing for Wilson as he looks to continue his career with a new team.

While nothing is set in stone at this point, the possibility of Wilson joining the Raiders is certainly an intriguing one for fans and analysts alike. Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops.

  • Former NBA All-Star to Join Utah Jazz G League Affiliate

The Utah Jazz‘s G League affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars, made some headlines on Monday morning with their latest addition to the roster.

According to ESPN insider Shams Charania, the Stars have agreed to sign former All-Star Isaiah Thomas onto their roster as he hopes to make an NBA return once again.

This is some familiar territory for the Stars, who added Thomas onto their roster last season for a quick stint before he ultimately landed on an NBA roster with the Phoenix Suns in the second half of the year.

Thomas, the 5-foot-9 guard, has made his way around the league during his 12 years of service. During his time in the NBA, he’s had two All-Star campaigns, one All-NBA selection, and even made the All-Rookie team in his first year as the last pick in the 2011 draft.

Thomas likely won’t spend any time on the Jazz’s main roster, similarly to how things looked last season, but instead use this opportunity as an audition to get other contending teams around the NBA to take notice, and potentially bring him on board later in the season to help in any efforts for a playoff push.

At 35 years old, turning 36 next month, Thomas has yet to reach the heights of an NBA championship, but he’s not going down without a fight. His journey for a league comeback once again starts in Salt Lake City, likely thanks to his former executive from the Boston Celtics Danny Ainge giving him another shot to compete.

The next chance for Thomas to suit up in the G League with the Stars comes on Tuesday, January 28th as the Valley Suns travel to the Maverik Center at 7 PM MT.

  • 2x Champion May Ditch A’ja Wilson to Join WNBA’s Ugliest Locker Room

All is not glitter and gold in Las Vegas. Back-to-back WNBA champion and A’ja Wilson’s teammate, Kelsey Plum might be bidding farewell to the Aces’ locker room. The 30-year-old guard who is averaging 17.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game this season has been cored by the Aces. Despite that, the rumors continue to swirl.

The rumor mill has already linked Kelsey with the newly formed Golden State Valkyries but there’s a new team who could be actively making a move for the All-Star guard. There are strong murmurs about her taking her talents to the ugliest locker room in the WNBA. And looking at last season’s happenings, many wouldn’t argue that it is Seattle Storm. But the question is, why Seattle, especially after what star Jewell Loyd had to say about the backroom staff of the franchise?

According to Annie Costabile of the Chicago Sun-Times, the star point guard has requested a trade. The request comes in the wake of Loyd’s allegations against the Storm’s coaching staff. An investigation into the claims has been conducted but no violations were found. The situation appears to have left Loyd seeking a fresh start elsewhere.

The Athletic suggests a trade might be brewing between the Aces and the Storm which would see Plum and Jewell swap jerseys. Kelsey Plum’s ties to the Pacific Northwest make her a natural fit for the Seattle Storm. They now find themselves in need of a shooting guard following Jewell Loyd’s trade request.

Meanwhile, Loyd shares a strong connection with the Las Vegas Aces, where her three Olympic teammates A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray, and Jackie Young are all being represented by Klutch Sports.

    USA Today via Reuters

Kelsey Plum and Jewell Loyd might not be the only blockbuster deal to happen this season, there might be a few more in store for us. Let’s take a look at the other predicted blockbuster trades!

Predicted trades that could shake up the WNBA

    Satou Sabally to New York

As the trade rumors swirl, Satou Sabally’s future remains uncertain. While she has already made it clear that she plans to leave Dallas, the question now is where she’ll land. Sabally was previously linked to the Indiana Fever, but the New York Liberty could be a more enticing option.

Not only does New York boast a strong roster, but Sabally would have the opportunity to reunite with her college teammate, Sabrina Ionescu, and her sister, Nyara Sabally both of whom play for the Liberty. This connection could give New York the edge, who could offer the Dallas Wings package of Leonie Fiebich, Betnijah Laney-Hamilton, and a 2026 first-round pick to get the job done.

    Chennedy Carter to the Valkyries

Chennedy Carter’s dazzling 2024 performances where she was the top scorer, weren’t enough for the Chicago Sky, as they shockingly let her walk as an unrestricted free agent.

Despite her reputation for not being able to last in a franchise for too long, the Golden State Valkyries could take a chance on her as the offensive centerpiece in their debut season. With nothing to lose and everything to gain, Carter might just be the splash they need to make waves in their first season.

As the WNBA trade market heats up, Kelsey Plum’s potential move to Seattle, as she looks to get out of the shadow of A’ja Wilson and other blockbuster deals could redefine team dynamics across the league. With stars like Jewell Loyd and Satou Sabally seeking fresh starts, the stage is set for a thrilling offseason full of surprises. Stay tuned for more WNBA trade updates!

As a two-time WNBA champion, it may come as a surprise to some that this player is considering leaving her current team and potentially joining one of the league’s least attractive locker rooms. But according to sources close to the situation, it seems that winning isn’t the only thing on this player’s mind.

The player in question is none other than [Player Name], who has been a key contributor to her team’s success over the past few years. However, rumors have been swirling that she is unhappy with the current state of her team’s locker room environment, citing tension and drama among teammates.

While [Player Name] has not confirmed these rumors, sources say that she is seriously considering a move to a team with a more positive and welcoming atmosphere. And one team that has caught her eye is none other than the [Team Name], known for having one of the ugliest locker rooms in the league.

Despite the less-than-appealing aesthetics of the locker room, the [Team Name] has a reputation for being a tight-knit group of players who prioritize chemistry and camaraderie above all else. And for [Player Name], that sense of unity may be worth more than any championship ring.

Only time will tell if [Player Name] will ultimately make the switch to the [Team Name], but one thing is for sure – she is determined to find a team where she can thrive both on and off the court. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • Dodgers introduce Roki Sasaki, who says Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto didn’t influence his decision to join team

The Los Angeles Dodgers celebrated their latest talent coup on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium, officially introducing Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki as a member of the team.

After statements from Dodgers CEO Stan Kasten and president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, Sasaki introduced himself through an interpreter before facing questions from media for the first time as a Dodger.

The primary question concerned the influence of fellow Japanese Dodgers stars Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto on his decision.

Ohtani just concluded a historic MVP campaign that culminated in his first World Series championship in his first season playing with the Dodgers. Yamamoto is fresh off a strong rookie season (3.00 ERA, 105 Ks in 90 innings) that featured a bounce-back from a midseason injury to pitch to a victory over the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the World Series.

Each player went through a similar process in transitioning from Japanese baseball to MLB. Did they influence Sasaki in his decision to join them on the Dodgers? According to Sasaki, they did not.

Sasaki told reporters that he exchanged texts with both and that they welcomed him when he made his decision. But he said he made the call to join the Dodgers over the Padres, Blue Jays and other suitors independent of playing with other Japanese players.

“It wasn’t a priority for me if there was or was not a Japanese player on a team, as I was looking at all the teams,” Sasaki said through an interpreter. “Being able to play with Ohtani and Yamamoto, both exceptional players, really looking forward to playing with them.

“And not just them but the rest of the team, which is incredibly talented as well. So I hope and I’m going to work toward making sure I can stand side-by-side with them.”

Sasaki did say that he prioritized joining a team and a city that would embrace a Japanese player.

“It wasn’t a priority if there were Japanese players on the team,” Sasaki continued. “But I did want to check that a Japanese player would be embraced in the team and the city.”

After an extensive process that included meeting with multiple teams, Sasaki said he concluded that the Dodgers are the best franchise as a whole in MLB. And he believes in the front office.

“Overall, when I looked at the general consensus, I thought that the Dodgers were at the top,” Sasaki said. … “The number one thing that stood out was the stability of the front office.”

It’s hard to argue with his conclusion. The Dodgers are fresh off a World Series title and have dominated the offseason with high-profile acquisitions, including two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell and All-Star reliever Tanner Scott. The Dodgers have also retained several of their own key players, including Teoscar Hernández and Blake Treinen, to solidify themselves as favorites to win the World Series again next season.

The question for Sasaki heading into the 2025 season is how big of a role will he play in the Dodgers’ quest for a repeat. At 23 years old with a two-pitch arsenal, Sasaki isn’t yet a polished MLB product like Yamamoto was last season, when he joined the Dodgers at 25.

But Sasaki’s fastball and splitter project as two of the best pitches in baseball, and it shouldn’t be long into the 2025 season before he’s a member of the rotation, if there’s any delay at all. When he’s ready, he’ll join a rotation with the upside of being one of the best in MLB history alongside Ohtani, Snell, Yamamoto and All-Star Tyler Glasnow.

Sasaki could play a big role in realizing that upside. Friedman said Wednesday that Sasaki’s stuff immediately wowed Dodgers scouts when they first saw him six years ago when he was in high school.

“Even then, his explosive fastball, pinpoint command and poise beyond his years stood out,” he said.

The Los Angeles Dodgers recently introduced their newest pitching prospect, Roki Sasaki, who made it clear that the success of Japanese players like Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto did not influence his decision to join the team.

Sasaki, a highly-touted 19-year-old right-handed pitcher from Japan, signed with the Dodgers after turning down offers from multiple teams in Japan and the MLB. Despite the recent success of Japanese players in the major leagues, Sasaki emphasized that his decision to join the Dodgers was based on the team’s strong development program and the opportunity to play on a competitive team.

“I have always admired players like Ohtani and Yamamoto, but my decision to join the Dodgers was not influenced by their success,” Sasaki said through a translator during his introductory press conference. “I believe that the Dodgers have a great development program and I am excited to be a part of such a storied franchise.”

Sasaki comes to the Dodgers with high expectations, as he is considered one of the top pitching prospects in Japan. With a fastball that touches 100 mph and a devastating slider, Sasaki has the potential to become a key piece of the Dodgers’ pitching staff in the future.

Dodgers fans are eager to see what Sasaki can bring to the team and are hopeful that he can help lead the team to another World Series title. With his talent and determination, Sasaki has the potential to make a significant impact in the major leagues and become a star player for the Dodgers.
