  • 2x Champion May Ditch A’ja Wilson to Join WNBA’s Ugliest Locker Room

All is not glitter and gold in Las Vegas. Back-to-back WNBA champion and A’ja Wilson’s teammate, Kelsey Plum might be bidding farewell to the Aces’ locker room. The 30-year-old guard who is averaging 17.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game this season has been cored by the Aces. Despite that, the rumors continue to swirl.

The rumor mill has already linked Kelsey with the newly formed Golden State Valkyries but there’s a new team who could be actively making a move for the All-Star guard. There are strong murmurs about her taking her talents to the ugliest locker room in the WNBA. And looking at last season’s happenings, many wouldn’t argue that it is Seattle Storm. But the question is, why Seattle, especially after what star Jewell Loyd had to say about the backroom staff of the franchise?

According to Annie Costabile of the Chicago Sun-Times, the star point guard has requested a trade. The request comes in the wake of Loyd’s allegations against the Storm’s coaching staff. An investigation into the claims has been conducted but no violations were found. The situation appears to have left Loyd seeking a fresh start elsewhere.

The Athletic suggests a trade might be brewing between the Aces and the Storm which would see Plum and Jewell swap jerseys. Kelsey Plum’s ties to the Pacific Northwest make her a natural fit for the Seattle Storm. They now find themselves in need of a shooting guard following Jewell Loyd’s trade request.

Meanwhile, Loyd shares a strong connection with the Las Vegas Aces, where her three Olympic teammates A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray, and Jackie Young are all being represented by Klutch Sports.

Kelsey Plum and Jewell Loyd might not be the only blockbuster deal to happen this season, there might be a few more in store for us. Let’s take a look at the other predicted blockbuster trades!

Predicted trades that could shake up the WNBA

    Satou Sabally to New York

As the trade rumors swirl, Satou Sabally’s future remains uncertain. While she has already made it clear that she plans to leave Dallas, the question now is where she’ll land. Sabally was previously linked to the Indiana Fever, but the New York Liberty could be a more enticing option.

Not only does New York boast a strong roster, but Sabally would have the opportunity to reunite with her college teammate, Sabrina Ionescu, and her sister, Nyara Sabally both of whom play for the Liberty. This connection could give New York the edge, who could offer the Dallas Wings package of Leonie Fiebich, Betnijah Laney-Hamilton, and a 2026 first-round pick to get the job done.

    Chennedy Carter to the Valkyries

Chennedy Carter’s dazzling 2024 performances where she was the top scorer, weren’t enough for the Chicago Sky, as they shockingly let her walk as an unrestricted free agent.

Despite her reputation for not being able to last in a franchise for too long, the Golden State Valkyries could take a chance on her as the offensive centerpiece in their debut season. With nothing to lose and everything to gain, Carter might just be the splash they need to make waves in their first season.

  • Dodgers introduce Roki Sasaki, who says Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto didn’t influence his decision to join team

The Los Angeles Dodgers celebrated their latest talent coup on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium, officially introducing Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki as a member of the team.

After statements from Dodgers CEO Stan Kasten and president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, Sasaki introduced himself through an interpreter before facing questions from media for the first time as a Dodger.

The primary question concerned the influence of fellow Japanese Dodgers stars Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto on his decision.

Ohtani just concluded a historic MVP campaign that culminated in his first World Series championship in his first season playing with the Dodgers. Yamamoto is fresh off a strong rookie season (3.00 ERA, 105 Ks in 90 innings) that featured a bounce-back from a midseason injury to pitch to a victory over the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the World Series.

Each player went through a similar process in transitioning from Japanese baseball to MLB. Did they influence Sasaki in his decision to join them on the Dodgers? According to Sasaki, they did not.

Sasaki told reporters that he exchanged texts with both and that they welcomed him when he made his decision. But he said he made the call to join the Dodgers over the Padres, Blue Jays and other suitors independent of playing with other Japanese players.

“It wasn’t a priority for me if there was or was not a Japanese player on a team, as I was looking at all the teams,” Sasaki said through an interpreter. “Being able to play with Ohtani and Yamamoto, both exceptional players, really looking forward to playing with them.

“And not just them but the rest of the team, which is incredibly talented as well. So I hope and I’m going to work toward making sure I can stand side-by-side with them.”

Sasaki did say that he prioritized joining a team and a city that would embrace a Japanese player.

“It wasn’t a priority if there were Japanese players on the team,” Sasaki continued. “But I did want to check that a Japanese player would be embraced in the team and the city.”

After an extensive process that included meeting with multiple teams, Sasaki said he concluded that the Dodgers are the best franchise as a whole in MLB. And he believes in the front office.

“Overall, when I looked at the general consensus, I thought that the Dodgers were at the top,” Sasaki said. … “The number one thing that stood out was the stability of the front office.”

It’s hard to argue with his conclusion. The Dodgers are fresh off a World Series title and have dominated the offseason with high-profile acquisitions, including two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell and All-Star reliever Tanner Scott. The Dodgers have also retained several of their own key players, including Teoscar Hernández and Blake Treinen, to solidify themselves as favorites to win the World Series again next season.

The question for Sasaki heading into the 2025 season is how big of a role will he play in the Dodgers’ quest for a repeat. At 23 years old with a two-pitch arsenal, Sasaki isn’t yet a polished MLB product like Yamamoto was last season, when he joined the Dodgers at 25.

But Sasaki’s fastball and splitter project as two of the best pitches in baseball, and it shouldn’t be long into the 2025 season before he’s a member of the rotation, if there’s any delay at all. When he’s ready, he’ll join a rotation with the upside of being one of the best in MLB history alongside Ohtani, Snell, Yamamoto and All-Star Tyler Glasnow.

Sasaki could play a big role in realizing that upside. Friedman said Wednesday that Sasaki’s stuff immediately wowed Dodgers scouts when they first saw him six years ago when he was in high school.

“Even then, his explosive fastball, pinpoint command and poise beyond his years stood out,” he said.

The Los Angeles Dodgers recently introduced their newest pitching prospect, Roki Sasaki, who made it clear that the success of Japanese players like Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto did not influence his decision to join the team.

Sasaki, a highly-touted 19-year-old right-handed pitcher from Japan, signed with the Dodgers after turning down offers from multiple teams in Japan and the MLB. Despite the recent success of Japanese players in the major leagues, Sasaki emphasized that his decision to join the Dodgers was based on the team’s strong development program and the opportunity to play on a competitive team.

“I have always admired players like Ohtani and Yamamoto, but my decision to join the Dodgers was not influenced by their success,” Sasaki said through a translator during his introductory press conference. “I believe that the Dodgers have a great development program and I am excited to be a part of such a storied franchise.”

Sasaki comes to the Dodgers with high expectations, as he is considered one of the top pitching prospects in Japan. With a fastball that touches 100 mph and a devastating slider, Sasaki has the potential to become a key piece of the Dodgers’ pitching staff in the future.

Dodgers fans are eager to see what Sasaki can bring to the team and are hopeful that he can help lead the team to another World Series title. With his talent and determination, Sasaki has the potential to make a significant impact in the major leagues and become a star player for the Dodgers.

  • UK could join Europe-wide customs deal in post-Brexit reset, Brussels trade chief says

The UK could join a Europe -wide trading agreement as part of Sir Keir Starmer ’s post- Brexit reset with the EU , one of the bloc’s top trade chiefs has said.

Maros Sefcovic, who led post-Brexit negotiations for the European Union, said it would consider letting Britain join the Pan-Euro-Mediterranean Convention (PEM) as the PM chases closer ties with Brussels.

The PEM allows for tariff-free trade of goods across Europe, as well as some North African and Levantine nations.

Maros Sefcovic said the European Union would consider letting Britain join the Pan-Euro-Mediterranean Convention (PEM) (AFP via Getty Images)

Some business groups have backed the UK joining PEM as it would help to maintain complex supply chains, but the previous Conservative Government chose not to pursue it as part of a post-Brexit trade agreement.

Speaking to the BBC at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Mr Sefcovic said the idea had not yet been “precisely formulated” and that the “ball is in the UK’s court”.

The UK government has reportedly begun consulting with businesses on the benefits of the PEM plan and how it could help cut red tape and improve trade. But, hours after Mr Sefcovic’s comments, a UK minister rejected the proposal.

The Liberal Democrats said rejecting the customs scheme was an act of “economic negligence” and called for an urgent rethink.

Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey said: “It is alarming that the Government is happy to negotiate with China but won’t even look at a better trading arrangement with our closest neighbours in Europe. This is an act of economic negligence.

“If the Government thinks it will get growth back in the economy by borrowing Boris Johnson’s playbook on European negotiations it is going to end up being sorely disappointed.

“It is time for a proper UK-EU customs arrangement so we can strengthen our negotiations with Donald Trump, cut the red tape on our businesses and grow the economy.”

Asked about the proposals, housing minister Matthew Pennycook told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “We are not seeking to participate in that particular arrangement.

“In general, the government has been very clear that we do want a closer relationship with our European partners, both in trading terms, but also importantly, in terms of security and defense cooperation, where we need to work far more closely.

“So absolutely, yes, we do want a closer relationship, but as for this particular arrangement, no, we’re not seeking to participate in it at the present time.”

But Dr Mike Galsworthy, chairman of the European Movement UK, told The Independent : “With growth stalled and exports falling through the floor since we left the EU, Keir Starmer should welcome the offer of joining the PEM customs arrangement with open arms.

“But we should go further. Joining the EU customs union would ease so many of the trade barriers our businesses have faced since we left the EU. And restoring to our young people the rights they once enjoyed to travel and work freely across our continent.”

The lack of a veterinary agreement after Brexit has been a major sticking point for UK food businesses hoping to export to Britain’s nearest neighbours.

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=3AWM9U_0yMQUj1000
Keir Starmer has been seeking a reset in post-Brexit relations with the EU (AP)

Mr Sefcovic also told the BBC he would like to see the possibility of a full-scale veterinary agreement between the EU and UK reviewed.

If UK food and farm products were given single market treatment, he said it would mean “we would have to have the same rules and we have to upgrade them at the same time, we call it dynamic alignment”.

The intervention comes six months into Sir Keir’s ambitious plan to broker a new trade relationship with the EU. He has held a series of meetings with European leaders, including visiting European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels in October and hosting Emmanuel Macron at his grace and favour country estate Chequers this month.

Another key sticking point in the reset so far has been Sir Keir’s reluctance to accept a youth mobility scheme with Brussels, which would allow under-30s to study, work and travel across the European Union for up to two years.

The PM is wary of agreeing to anything that his opponents could portray as a betrayal of Brexit, while some in government fear a youth mobility scheme would drive up immigration numbers.

Europe’s other key demands centre on EU access to UK fishing waters and Britain’s adherence to rulings of the European Court of Justice.

In a recent development, it has been suggested that the UK could potentially join a Europe-wide customs deal in a post-Brexit reset. This proposal comes from the Brussels trade chief, who believes that such a move could help facilitate smoother trade relations between the UK and the European Union.

With Brexit having created significant disruptions to trade between the UK and the EU, finding a way to improve cooperation and reduce barriers is crucial for both parties. By joining a Europe-wide customs deal, the UK could potentially benefit from easier access to the EU market and smoother trade processes.

While this proposal is still in the early stages and would require further negotiations and discussions, it is an interesting concept that could potentially help reset and improve post-Brexit trade relations. As the UK continues to navigate its new relationship with the EU, exploring innovative solutions like a Europe-wide customs deal could be key to fostering a more cooperative and mutually beneficial trade environment.

  • Fernanda Torres and Isabella Rossellini join their moms as Oscar acting nominees

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree — especially at the Oscars.

I’m Still Here‘s Fernanda Torres and Conclave‘s Isabella Rossellini joined their mothers, Fernanda Montenegro and Ingrid Bergman, respectively, as Oscar nominees on Thursday, becoming the fifth and sixth pairs of mother-daughter duos to be nominated for acting Oscars.

    More from GoldDerby

Torres, who cracked the top five in the Best Actress odds after her Golden Globe victory, is up for the award alongside Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), Mikey Madison (Anora), and Demi Moore (The Substance). The nomination comes 26 years after Montenegro was shortlisted in the same category for Central Station and lost to Shakespeare in Love‘s Gwyneth Paltrow.

Rossellini, 72, received her long-awaited maiden Oscar bid in Best Supporting Actress, where she was third in the odds, in Edward Berger‘s papal thriller. She faces Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown), Ariana Grande (Wicked), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), and Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez). A three-time Oscar winner, Bergman won Best Actress twice for 1944’s Gaslight and 1956’s Anastasia and Best Supporting Actress for 1974’s Murder on the Orient Express.

Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli were the first mother and daughter to achieve this feat. The former was a two-time nominee for 1954’s A Star Is Born in Best Actress and 1961’s Judgment at Nuremberg in Best Supporting Actress. Garland was heavily favored to win for her comeback performance in A Star Is Born, and a camera crew was set up in her hospital room, where she had just given birth, to film her speech. Alas, Grace Kelly pulled off the upset for The Country Girl. Minnelli received a supporting bid for 1969’s The Sterile Cuckoo before winning Best Actress for her iconic turn in 1972’s Cabaret.

SEE Full list of Oscar nominations

The second pair to join this club were Diane Ladd and Laura Dern. Ladd earned two supporting nominations for 1974’s Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore and 1990’s Wild at Heart. She and Dern then made history as the first mother-daughter thespians to be nominated in the same year when Ladd was up for Best Supporting Actress and Dern for Best Actress for 1991’s Rambling Rose. Dern followed with two more supporting nominations for 2014’s Wild and 2019’s Marriage Story, winning for the latter.

Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson were the third duo and have three nominations between them. Hawn won on her first time at bat in supporting 1969’s Cactus Flower. She received a lead bid for 1980’s Private Benjamin. Twenty years later, Hudson was nominated for her supporting performance in Almost Famous.

Before Thursday, the most recent pair entered the list just two years ago: Janet Leigh and Jamie Lee Curtis. The former received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for 1960’s Psycho, while the latter won that award on her first nomination for Everything Everywhere All at Once — one of the Best Picture champ’s seven wins. Curtis was in the running for a follow-up Best Supporting Actress nomination for The Last Showgirl this year and bagged Screen Actors Guild Award and BAFTA nominations.

Coincidentally or not, there’s one winner from each of the first four duos, three of whom are the daughter. Since Bergman is an Oscar winner, the Bergman-Rossellini pair already fits this trend even if Rossellini loses on March 2. But if Torres loses, she and Montenegro, who also appears in I’m Still Here, will be the only mother-daughter double act to be Oscar-less.

  • I’m just Kenobi: Ryan Gosling set to join Star Wars franchise in as-yet-untitled movie | Movies

Ryan Gosling is to become the newest addition to the Star Wars universe after news emerged that he will star in an as-yet-untitled franchise movie to be directed by Shawn Levy.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Gosling is to join a project that was first revealed in 2022, as one of several films that Star Wars producer Lucasfilm is developing simultaneously. Levy, whose previous film was the record-breaking Deadpool & Wolverine, said that Jonathan Tropper, with whom he worked on This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project, is writing the screenplay.

Few other details of the film have emerged, but it is thought to be a standalone story in the style of Rogue One or Solo, rather than a continuation of the so-called “Skywalker saga”, which comprised nine films and was apparently wrapped up with The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. No release date has been announced, but Star Wars studio Disney are holding a slot for a Star Wars movie in December 2027. It is thought Gosling’s involvement, fresh from mainstream success and an Oscar nomination for Barbie, may see production accelerate to meet that date.

Having prioritised its spin-off TV shows since The Rise of Skywalker, the franchise is due to debut its next cinema project, The Mandalorian & Grogu, in May 2026. Billed as a “continuation” of hit series The Mandalorian, it is directed by Jon Favreau and stars the TV show’s Pedro Pascal.

Other projects confirmed to be in development include a film focusing on Daisy Ridley’s character Rey to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and a prequel story with the working title Dawn of the Jedi, set 25,000 years in the past, from A Complete Unknown director James Mangold.

Exciting news for Star Wars fans! It has been reported that Ryan Gosling is set to join the iconic franchise in an as-yet-untitled movie. The heartthrob actor is rumored to be playing a character named Kenobi, sparking speculation among fans about his possible connection to the legendary Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Gosling, known for his roles in films such as La La Land and Drive, is sure to bring his signature charm and talent to the Star Wars universe. While details about the plot of the movie are being kept under wraps, the addition of Gosling to the cast has already generated a buzz of excitement among fans.

With his impressive acting skills and undeniable star power, Gosling is sure to make a memorable mark on the Star Wars franchise. Stay tuned for more updates as the project develops! May the Force be with Ryan Gosling as he embarks on this exciting new adventure in a galaxy far, far away.

  • Could Patrick Mahomes’ actions lead the NFL to join the NBA and NHL in cracking down on flopping?

NFL officials were heavily scrutinized for some of the flags they threw in the four divisional round games that saw the Chiefs, Bills, Eagles and Commanders advance to next weekend’s conference championships.

Yet, it was one play that didn’t draw a flag that could prove a most consequential non-call if the NFL decides to join the NBA and NHL in seriously cracking down on floppers, as ESPN broadcaster Troy Aikman suggested during the Texans-Chiefs game.

NFL players can be penalized for the big umbrella “unsportsmanlike conduct” infraction, but there isn’t an official rule against flopping, and Aikman urged the league to address that during one of his several conversations with Joe Buck over the officiating in the Chiefs’ 23-14 victory.

On the same possession where he benefited from his late slide that caused two Texans players to crash into each other, drawing a widely panned unnecessary roughness flag, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes appeared to try to deke referee Clay Martin’s officiating crew into throwing another flag to aid Kansas City’s drive, which ended with a touchdown that put the Chiefs up by eight in the fourth quarter.

Scrambling to his left, Mahomes pulled up just as he went out of bounds. When linebacker Henry To’oTo’o tapped him, Mahomes threw himself dramatically to the ground but failed to fool the officials — or impress Aikman, the Hall of Fame quarterback who earlier took umbrage at the roughing-the-passer call against Houston.

“He’s trying to draw the penalty. Rather than just run out of bounds, he slows down,” Aikman protested. “And that’s been the frustration, and I get it. I understand it. That’s been the frustration for these defensive players around the league.”

Earlier in the drive, Aikman said he “could not disagree” more with the roughing penalty called on To’oTo’o and defensive tackle Folorunso Fatukasi, who smashed into each other and made incidental contact with Mahomes, who was underneath them after his late slide.

When Martin announced the penalty, Aikman interjected, “Oh, come on!”

“He’s a runner. I could not disagree with that one more, and he barely gets hit,” Aikman said, noting that Mahomes shouldn’t have been afforded the extra protections provided quarterbacks in the pocket once he started running on the play. “That’s the second (questionable) penalty now that’s been called against the Texans. … It was a late flag, and it was Clay Martin who threw it.”

“They’ve gotta address it in the offseason,” Aikman added.

ESPN’s rules analyst Russell Yurk concurred that no flag should have been thrown on the play.

After the game, Texans coach DeMeco Ryans suggested that his team expected the Chiefs to benefit from the officiating: “We knew going into today it was us versus everybody. And when I say everybody, it’s everybody.”

Yurk also disagreed with a roughing-the-passer flag on Texans pass rusher Will Anderson Jr. in the first quarter that erased a three-and-out by Kansas City, which went on to score a field goal on that drive: “It looked like that first contact was to the upper chest area. I didn’t see anything there that supported a foul,” Yurk said.

Martin, the referee, told a pool reporter after the game that on the Anderson penalty, “I had forcible contact the face mask area,” and on the To’oTo’o infraction, when the quarterback slides, “he is considered defenseless. The onus is on the defender. I had forcible contact there to the hairline, to the helmet.”

Walt Anderson, the longtime NFL senior vice president of officiating who moved into a new role as the league’s rules analyst and club communications liaison last year, said Sunday that both calls were correct under the current rules.

Anderson said in an appearance Sunday on the NFL Network that it might be up for debate about whether there was forcible contact on the roughing-the-passer flag in the first quarter, but he emphasized that the league’s rulebook calls for officials to throw the flag if there’s any doubt whether roughing has occurred.

As for the second foul, where Mahomes slid late, Anderson said the two Texans defenders who crashed into each other made incidental contact with Mahomes once he was on the ground, so replay assist couldn’t be used in that circumstance to pick up the flag.

Anderson noted that the league’s competition committee could revisit either infraction and tweak the rules this offseason.

Aikman, for one, would like to see the league crack down on flopping, as well.

Patrick Mahomes, the star quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, has recently come under fire for allegedly flopping during a game against the Baltimore Ravens. Flopping, or exaggerating contact in order to draw a penalty, is a controversial tactic that has long been a point of contention in sports like basketball and hockey.

With Mahomes, one of the NFL’s biggest stars, being accused of flopping, many are wondering if this could prompt the league to follow in the footsteps of the NBA and NHL in cracking down on such behavior. The NBA, in particular, has been known for its strict enforcement of anti-flopping rules, issuing fines to players who are caught embellishing contact.

Could Mahomes’ actions be the catalyst for the NFL to implement similar measures? It’s certainly a possibility. The league has already taken steps to address player safety and sportsmanship, and cracking down on flopping could be seen as another way to uphold the integrity of the game.

Only time will tell if Mahomes’ alleged flopping will lead to changes in the NFL’s rules and regulations. But one thing is for sure – the spotlight is now shining on the issue, and the league may be forced to address it sooner rather than later.

  • Baseball Hall of Fame predictions: Who will join Ichiro in 2025 class when votes are revealed?

The results of voting for the 2025 Baseball Hall of Fame class will be revealed Tuesday evening. We already know that Dave Parker and Dick Allen were inducted via the Era Committee last month, so this reveal is the BBWAA portion. Who will join Parker and Allen?

Well, Ichiro Suzuki will. Thus far, we haven’t seen a single voter reveal a ballot without including Ichiro. Yes, he’s tracking at 100%. Let’s dive in further to the ballot tracker, which is excellently compiled by Ryan Thibodaux and his team each year and use past experience to predict how this thing will finish.

As I’ve said previously, my expectation is that Ichiro will not be unanimous but will come damn close. He’ll be over 99% and, hey, maybe he will join Mariano Rivera as the only unanimous inductees.

There’s much more intrigue for me with the rest of the ballot. Who else could be named on the 75% of writers’ ballots to gain enshrinement?

As of Monday morning, CC Sabathia has been named on 93.2% of the public ballots. Generally speaking, ballots kept private tend to skew “old school” voters and those types of voters are, in general, much stingier with their ballots. That means we can safely assume Sabathia’s vote percentage will actually be lower — and perhaps significantly so. I do not, however, think he’s going to lose more than 18%, meaning I am predicting CC joins Ichiro, Allen and Parker.

Billy Wagner is in his 10th and final vote. He got 73.8% of the vote last year and his final number was only 4.5% lower than he was tracking on public ballots. That should bode well for him right now, given that he’s currently tracking at 84.7%. Many candidates who come close to induction see a final year bump and all Wagner needed from last year was to add five votes. Even without a final year bump, new voters alone could send Wagner in (we have two new voters here at CBS Sports and we both voted for Wagner).

My belief is the class ends here. It’ll be Allen, Parker, Suzuki, Sabathia and Wagner, making for a nice ceremony with four living Hall of Famers and one posthumous induction in Allen.

As for the rest of the ballot, let’s take a quick look:

    • Carlos Beltrán is actually tracking at 80.7%, which would be enough to gain enshrinement. He lost 9.3% from public ballots to the actual results last season, so if it’s a similar fall, he’s set to top 70%. Given how light the ballot is set to look next season, he’s very, very likely a 2026 Hall of Fame inductee.
    • Andruw Jones might well join him, though it’s possible he has to wait until 2027. Jones is tracking at 72.2% and last year took an 8% hit between the public ballots and actual voting, which means he might be in the 64% range. That might only be around a 3% gain from last season’s 61.6%. I’m not sure it’s enough momentum to say he’s making it next year, but for the 2027 vote, it’ll be his 10th and final year on the ballot. I think he’ll make it then.
    • Alex Rodriguez and Manny Ramirez appear to continue to lack momentum. They both failed to get to 35% of the vote last year and A-Rod is tracking at 41.5%. Manny sits at 37.5%. Neither has added public votes compared to past years. This is the ninth year on the ballot for Ramirez while it’s the fourth for A-Rod. It’s merely a formality for Ramirez and it’s starting to look that way for A-Rod.
    • Chase Utley has added a decent number of votes. After getting 28.8% of the vote last year, his first on the ballot, he’s tracking at 52.8%. It seems safe that he’ll top 40% and maybe even get to 45%. This bodes well for his chances moving forward.
    • Along with Beltrán’s 20, the player adding the most votes this time around so far is Andy Pettitte, with 20 new votes of his own. He only got 13.5% of the vote last year, but he’s tracking at 33.5% right now. It’s his seventh year on the ballot, so it’s likely too little, too late, but he’s definitely worth a mention.
    • The following players are either definitely safe or are likely to be safe to remain on the ballot, as 5% of the vote is needed: Bobby Abreu (25.0%), Félix Hernández (24.4%), Dustin Pedroia (14.2%), Mark Buehrle (12.5%), Omar Vizquel (12.5%), David Wright (11.9%) and Francisco Rodríguez (8.0%).
    • The following players have gotten votes but appear to be shy of 5%: Russell Martin (4%), Brian McCann (3.4%), Ian Kinsler (2.3%) and Torii Hunter (1.7%). Hunter is the only returnee of the bunch and it’s his fifth year. He did gain 2.7% last year from public ballots to the actual results, so it’s possible he squeaks by again, though he’d need more of a bump, obviously.
    • The following players haven’t been named on a single public ballot to this point: Carlos González, Curtis Granderson, Adam Jones, Hanley Ramírez, Fernando Rodney, Troy Tulowitzki and Ben Zobrist. They are all first-timers, meaning one-and-dones.

Again, the final prediction is Sabathia, Suzuki and Wagner get in while Beltrán makes it next year and Jones gets in for 2027. If anyone else gets hot enough to join Jones in 2027, I’ll say it’s Utley.

With Ichiro Suzuki set to be enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame in the class of 2025, fans and analysts are already speculating about who will join him in receiving the prestigious honor. The voting results are set to be revealed soon, and there are several deserving candidates who could potentially make the cut.

One name that stands out is David Ortiz, the legendary designated hitter who played the majority of his career with the Boston Red Sox. Ortiz, also known as “Big Papi,” was a key player in the Red Sox’s World Series victories in 2004, 2007, and 2013, and his clutch hitting and leadership made him a beloved figure in Boston and across the league.

Another strong candidate is Alex Rodriguez, who had a controversial career but undeniably put up Hall of Fame-worthy numbers. A-Rod won three MVP awards and hit over 600 home runs in his career, putting him in elite company in baseball history.

Other potential inductees include Carlos Beltran, a standout outfielder who excelled on both offense and defense during his time in the league, and Mark Buehrle, a durable and consistent pitcher known for his workhorse mentality on the mound.

Ultimately, the 2025 class of the Baseball Hall of Fame is shaping up to be a stellar group of players, and fans will have to wait eagerly for the official announcement to see who will join Ichiro in receiving this prestigious honor.
