Jon Stewart Can’t Keep Up With the Purges
Welcome to Best of Late Night, a rundown of the previous night’s highlights that lets you sleep — and lets us get paid to watch comedy. Here are the 50 best movies on Netflix right now.
‘Don’t Hate the Player’
President Trump fired a slew of independent watchdogs, known as inspectors general, at a variety of federal agencies on Friday night. News outlets called it a purge.
“That only leaves — no one knows how many left. I have no idea,” Jon Stewart said on Monday’s “Daily Show.”
“The point is, we have 17 less inspectors general. Who knows how many generals will now go uninspected?” — JON STEWART
“For some reason, we have given presidents the power of a king, and then we say, ‘Oh, by the way, with that power, you’re not going to get all, like, kingly and [expletive] on us, right?’ To put that in constitutional terms, if I could: ‘Don’t hate the player, hate the founding fathers.’” — JON STEWART
Big, Beautiful Valves
Trump visited Los Angeles a few days ago to observe the damage from the wildfires. He promised Southern California “unlimited water” from the Pacific Northwest.
Jimmy Kimmel joked on Monday that Trump would issue an executive order “making the whole state a Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, and that should solve all our problems.”
“And it doesn’t stop. He keeps talking about these imaginary valves that we refuse to turn. What goes on in this brain of his? We’ve got giant valves, he’s got gold coins — it’s like Super Mario Bros. in there.” — JIMMY KIMMEL
“President Trump and first lady Melania Trump on Friday traveled to California and toured wildfire damage by helicopter. Said Trump afterward, ‘It’s been years since we laughed together like that.’” — SETH MEYERS
“I know it’s been a tough time here for us Angelenos, right? I mean, last week, a lot of people lost their homes to the fire. This week, a lot of people lost their gardeners to ICE.” — BILL MAHER
“You know, and we’re not out of the woods yet with the fires, right? That came up again. Some of them came up so quickly, the mayor barely had time to book a trip.” — BILL MAHER
The Punchiest Punchlines (Dr. Phil Edition)
“T.V. host Dr. Phil joined border czar Tom Homan over the weekend for an ICE operation in Chicago. Homan was there to catch immigrants, and I guess Dr. Phil was there in case any of their daughters dressed too slutty.” — SETH MEYERS
“I guess Dr. Phil finally cashed someone outside. How about that?” — JON STEWART
The Bits Worth Watching
The cast of the Broadway show “Death Becomes Her” performed “For the Gaze” on “The Tonight Show.”
What We’re Excited About on Tuesday Night
Drew Barrymore will sit down with Stephen Colbert on “The Late Show.”
Also, Check This Out
Tom Green, who made a splash with surreal, provocative comedy a quarter-century ago, has a new stand-up special, a four-episode reality show and a documentary about his rise to fame premiering on Amazon Prime this week.
In recent years, we have seen a surge in cancel culture and purges, where individuals are targeted and ostracized for past actions or statements deemed inappropriate by society. And it seems even Jon Stewart, the beloved comedian and political commentator, is struggling to keep up with the constant stream of purges.Stewart, known for his sharp wit and satirical take on current events, has found himself in hot water multiple times in recent years for comments he made in the past that are now considered offensive or insensitive. From old jokes on his show “The Daily Show” to controversial interviews, Stewart has faced backlash and calls for his cancellation.
But as the landscape of what is considered acceptable behavior continues to shift, Stewart finds himself constantly on the defensive, trying to navigate the ever-changing boundaries of acceptable speech. And with each new purge, it becomes harder for him to stay ahead of the curve and avoid being targeted himself.
While Stewart has always been known for pushing the boundaries of comedy and challenging societal norms, it seems that even he is struggling to adapt to the new era of cancel culture. As fans and critics alike watch to see how he will navigate this new landscape, one thing is clear: Jon Stewart can’t keep up with the purges.

#Jon #Stewart #PurgesJon Stewart wore Eagles jersey to Knicks game after Jalen Brunson bet
Comedian and Daily Show host Jon Stewart is a huge New York sports fan.
However, he wore Philadelphia Eagles gear to Saturday night’s New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden after losing a bet to Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson.
Back in September 2024, Stewart and Brunson made a friendly wager with each other over the outcome of a New York Giants and Eagles game since they are fans of the teams, respectively.
The terms of the bet? Stewart would wear an Eagles jersey to a Knicks game if Philly won, and Brunson would wear a jersey of Stewart’s choice to MSG.
Well, the Eagles came out on top, so Stewart wore a Saquon Barkley Eagles jersey to Saturday night’s Knicks game… a double wammy for a Giants fan.
Brunson gave Stewart a hug at the game, as he was surely elated to see his beloved Eagles repped at a Knicks game before the team plays in next Sunday’s Super Bowl.
As for Stewart, he sure looked miserable, but good for him for being a good sport and honoring the terms of the bet!

Jon Stewart shows his Philly pride at Knicks game in Eagles jersey after losing bet to Jalen BrunsonFormer “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart made a bold statement at a recent New York Knicks game by donning an Eagles jersey in honor of a lost bet with Dallas Mavericks player Jalen Brunson.
The bet, made during the NFL playoffs, had Stewart wagering that his beloved New York Giants would advance further than Brunson’s Philadelphia Eagles. However, the Eagles outperformed the Giants, leading Stewart to pay up by wearing the rival team’s jersey to the Knicks game.
Stewart’s good-natured sportsmanship and sense of humor were on full display as he cheered on the Knicks in his Eagles gear, much to the amusement of fans and players alike. The sight of the longtime Giants fan sporting Philadelphia’s colors was certainly a sight to see, but it also served as a reminder of the camaraderie and fun that sports can bring.
Despite the friendly rivalry, it’s clear that Stewart’s loyalty to his team remains unwavering. And who knows, maybe next time he’ll come out on top and get to see Brunson sporting Giants gear at a future game. Until then, the Eagles jersey serves as a reminder of a good-spirited bet and a fun night at the game.

Former WWE Champion Roman Reigns recently discussed the unpredictability of current AEW World Champion Jon Moxley, reminiscing about their time in The Shield. After debuting at Survivor Series 2012, Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose formed an iconic faction.
In an interview with SHAK Wrestling, Reigns shared: “It’s been a while. I haven’t talked to him in a bit. The one thing about Mox is you can’t GPS him. You can’t be like, ‘Oh he’s right here, don’t worry’ – we had no clue where he is, but we always knew he would be there.”
He recalled moments of uncertainty, saying: “A lot of times we’d be up in the concourse, so we all get up there together and you’re wondering where he is… like, ‘Uhh, do you know where the fox is?’ The fox is gonna fox. But literally every time it was time to take a step down those stairs, he was always there.”
Reigns highlighted Moxley’s spontaneous nature: “This guy, we’d be walking through the airport, and he’d just disappear… And then out of nowhere he pops up, he’d have a bagel and a coffee and half a mouthful of a croissant or something like that. It’s been a while and he’s got a family now so I’m hoping that he’s a little more predictable for his wife and child’s sake, but yeah he was an unpredictable dude for sure.”
Roman Reigns is set to compete in the Men’s Royal Rumble Match on February 1. Meanwhile, Jon Moxley remains the AEW World Champion and leads The Death Riders stable.

– During a recent interview with Shakiel Mahjouri for SHAK Wrestling and CBS Sports, WWE Superstar Roman Reigns shared a story about how unpredictable Jon Moxley would be during their days in The Shield. He’d sometimes scare him and Seth Rollins by being MIA right when they were about to make their entrance through the crowd. Below are some highlights (via Fightful):
Roman Reigns on how Jon Moxley could be unpredictable: “It’s been a while, I haven’t talked to him in a bit. There are so many. I’m trying to think of the goofiest one because he has a bunch of them. The one thing about Mox is, you can’t GPS him. ‘Oh, he’s right there, don’t worry.’ We had no clue where he is, but we always knew he would be there. A lot of times we would be up in the concourse. We’d all get up there together and you’re wondering where he is because there are only so many places to hide.”
On how Moxley would scare them and they wouldn’t know where he was: “He scared us a couple of times. They’re playing the Shield music and going through the alphabet. I’m over here looking at Seth like, ‘You know where the fox is?’ The fox is going to fox. Every time it was time to take a step down those stairs, he was always there. That’s how he was. He’d pop up, we’d be walking through the airport and just disappear. ‘Where is he?’ Out of nowhere, he’d pop up with a bagel, a coffee, mouth half full with a croissant. It’s been a while, and he’s got a family now, so I’m hoping he’s a little more predictable for his wife and child’s sake, but he was an unpredictable dude, for sure.”

Reigns revealed that there were times when they couldn’t find Moxley backstage, leading to some hilarious and frustrating moments.Reigns recalled one particular incident where they were scheduled to have a promo segment together, but Moxley was nowhere to be found. After searching high and low, they finally discovered him hiding in a storage closet, taking a nap before their segment.
Despite the occasional difficulties in locating Moxley, Reigns spoke highly of his former colleague and praised his work ethic and dedication to the business. He also expressed his excitement for Moxley’s success outside of WWE, as he has become a major star in AEW.
It seems that even the biggest names in wrestling have their share of backstage antics and challenges, but it’s all part of the camaraderie and fun that comes with being a part of the wrestling world. And it’s clear that Reigns has a lot of respect and admiration for his former teammate, even if he did occasionally have trouble finding him backstage.

Jon Jones Responds as Calls Mount for Gable Steveson to Leave NCAA Amid UFC Rumors
Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson has been on a wild ride in the past few years. After testing the waters in professional wrestling, the 24-year-old decided to make his return to NCAA wrestling. However, Steveson seems to have garnered fans’ attention recently, claiming that his participation is ‘unfair’ to other athletes because he’s already an established Olympic winner. But in these cries from the fans, UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones shared a message regarding Steveson and his future combat sports.
In 2021, Gable Steveson made waves in the pro wrestling industry after signing with the WWE as another coming of WWE legend Kurt Angle, who also won an Olympic gold medal. However, the 24-year-old didn’t seem to fit the mold and in 2024, the promotion released him after a brief stint in WWE’s developmental brand, NXT.
Following his stint there, Steveson announced that he was all in on NCAA wrestling because he still wanted to be a part of the collegiate level, and despite fans fuming over this, Jon Jones appears to be siding with him. While there have been rumors about a possible UFC move for Gable Steveson after his WWE exit, Jon Jones responded to these rumors and the fans’ dissatisfaction with Steveson’s return to wrestling with a social media post.

Steveson claimed that he’s not sure where he’d start his mixed martial arts journey, but he does see him doing that in the future, and if he ends up in the UFC, he will become the second Olympic gold medalist to compete in the Las Vegas-based promotion.

“Not sure of the promotion yet, but Jon definitely lit a fire under me and was like, ‘Hey, I think you should go back to wrestling, I think you should try MMA. We got a great team here in Albuquerque if you wanna join us,” Gable Steveson told Ariel Helwani. “With the wrestling, with the boxing work, with the jiu-jitsu, I feel like I could be very good really quick.”
Well, for the moment, whether fans like it or not, Gable Steveson is still focused on continuing to wrestle. But to know what lies ahead, we’ll have to wait and see. Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.

The former UFC light heavyweight champion has been making headlines once again, but this time it’s not for his own fighting career.Calls have been mounting for Gable Steveson, the NCAA wrestling champion, to leave college and pursue a career in the UFC. Speculation has been swirling that Steveson could be the next big thing in the world of mixed martial arts, with many fans and experts urging him to make the jump to the professional ranks.
Amidst all the rumors and pressure, Jon Jones has decided to weigh in on the situation. In a recent post on social media, Jones expressed his support for Steveson and encouraged him to follow his dreams.

When Golden Globe Award-winning actor Jon Hamm learned he would receive the Hasty Pudding Theatricals’ 2025 Man of the Year award, he was “stoked” — but this was not the first time Hamm was offered the award, he said in an interview Thursday.
The Hasty Pudding Theatricals first reached out “back in the Mad Men days,” but Hamm was “too busy working” to receive the honor, he said.
“I had to regretfully pass and I thought, ‘Oh no. They’ll never ask me again. I’m bummed,’” Hamm said. “Then it came around again.”
“It’s a tremendous honor, and I felt very happy to be considered,” he added.
The group announced on Jan. 15 that Hamm — known for his starring role in “Mad Men” — would be their 58th Man of the Year. A Hasty Pudding spokesperson did not immediately respond to a comment request Sunday regarding whether Hamm had been offered the award in the past.
The Hasty Pudding Theatricals will roast Hamm and present him with a ceremonial Pudding Pot on Jan. 31 at a sold-out preview of the group’s annual musical comedy, with ticket prices ranging from $150 to $250.
Hamm said he expects his Man of the Year ceremony to be a “whimsical, light-hearted event.”
“Especially given all of the things that seem to be happening that are bummers in the world, this is one thing that isn’t,” he said. “It’s nice to celebrate a little, to spark a little joy.”
When asked what he expects the Hasty Pudding performers to roast him about, Hamm said there is plenty of material to be found “if you dig around on the internet.”
“I have lived half a century or more on the planet, so you don’t get that kind of miles on your odometer without having plenty of embarrassing fodder for a roast,” he said.
Still, Hamm seemed unfazed by the prospect of the Theatricals’ scathing comments.
“It’s not my first rodeo,” he said. “I’m happy to take all the slings and arrows that come my way.”
Beyond Friday’s roast and receiving the Pudding Pot, Hamm said he is especially looking forward to the event because of his background as a former theater major and a high school theater teacher.
“Those are my people,” he said of undergraduate theater groups. “I’m happy to be around them for another weekend.”
After Hamm was announced as Man of the Year, Hasty Pudding alumni James M. W. “Jim” Downey ’74 — a former writer for Saturday Night Live — and Peter W. Schandorff ’68, Hamm’s eighth grade history teacher, both reached out to congratulate Hamm on his selection, Hamm said.
Hamm’s friendship with past members of the group also contributed to his excitement to receive the award, he added.
“I have a lot of friends in my world who are members of Hasty Pudding,” he said. “It felt nice to be asked to be in their world for just a little bit.”
Hamm said he hopes to fully immerse himself in his Man of the Year experience.
“I don’t participate in anything halfway,” he said. “I’m very much excited to lean in and jump in with both feet.”

LIV Golf has made its final transaction for the upcoming season.
After weeks of rumors and reports, Tom McKibbin officially became the newest member of Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII on Wednesday. Rahm announced the addition of the 22-year-old McKibbin, who hails from the same Northern Ireland club as Rory McIlroy, via social-media video, welcoming him to the four-person squad that also includes Tyrrell Hatton and Caleb Surratt.
LIV’s season begins next week under the lights in Saudi Arabia.
McKibbin makes his move despite earning his PGA Tour card via the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai last fall. McKibbin had yet to make his rookie debut on the PGA Tour, though, instead making a pair of DPWT starts in the Middle East. He is currently ranked No. 106 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
McKibbin’s decision surprised McIlroy, who spoke with his mentee last year shortly after McKibbin received his first LIV offer.
“I said to him, ‘If I were in your shoes, I would make a different choice than the one you’re thinking of making,’” McIlroy told reporters earlier this month at the Dubai Desert Classic. “Working so hard to get your Tour card in the States, to achieve that goal last year was a big achievement. I think what he potentially is sacrificing and giving up with access to majors, potential Ryder Cup spot depending on how he would play … if I were in his position and I had his potential, which I think I have been before, I wouldn’t make that decision.
“Personally, for me, it would be a little disappointing if it were to happen but again, I made it perfectly clear: I’m not going to stand in your way if you need to make the decision you feel like you need to make for yourself. But at the same time, I feel like he’s giving up a lot to not really benefit that much.”
McKibbin is among six newcomers to LIV teams this year, along with Ben Campbell, Luis Masaveu, Frederik Kjettrup, Yubin Jang and LIV Promotions winner Max Lee.
Here are the complete rosters for 2025:
