  • Naoya Inoue plots Las Vegas fight after four-round destruction of Ye Joon Kim | Boxing

The Monster is coming to Las Vegas.

Naoya Inoue, the undefeated Japanese boxing star known as Kaibutsu (怪物), confirmed his plans for a spring fight in the United States after meting out a four-round destruction of South Korea’s Ye Joon Kim on Friday night to strengthen his claim as the world’s finest boxer regardless of weight.

Inoue (29-0, 26 KO) laid bare the gulf in class between the fighters from the opening bell at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena, picking the overmatched challenger apart before dropping him for good with a left-right combination near the end of the fourth round to retain his WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO titles at 122lb.

“Yes, 2025 will be a big year for me to go to overseas countries to have a fight,” Inoue said afterward through a translator. “In spring of 2025 I’ll be going to Las Vegas to show you the great match.”

The four-weight champion then confirmed: “I am planning to have fights in Las Vegas and Saudi Arabia this year.”

The 32-year-old Kim (21-3-2, 13 KO), a replacement opponent who took Friday’s fight on less than two weeks’ notice after the Australian contender Sam Goodman suffered a cut during training, proved no match for Inoue’s stabbing jab, blinding hand speed and twitchy in-and-out movement. The champion began ramping up the pace from the second round, committed to a costly body attack in the third before uncorking the decisive left-right combination in the fourth that dumped the challenger to the canvas in the final minute. Kim was unable to beat the 10-count, prompting referee Mark Nelson to wave it off at the 2:25 mark.

“My opponent changed at the last minute and I didn’t have much time to prepare for him, so I thought I would take time to see how it went in the ring,” said Inoue, who improved to a remarkable 24-0 with 22 knockouts in world championship fights. “Overall, I think it was a good performance.”

Inoue’s 10th consecutive win inside the distance was the latest sensational finish for the 5ft 5in knockout merchant from Kanagawa prefecture, who captured his first world title at 108lb in only his sixth professional fight before adding another belt at 115lbs, then becoming the undisputed champion at 118lb and 122lb over a 378-day span. Since then he has been widely regarded as no worse than No 3 on pound-for-pound lists alongside Terence Crawford and Oleksandr Usyk.

It’s been a destructive upward surge through boxing’s lower weight classes not seen since Manny Pacquiao’s prime. Now the 31-year-old will take the show on the road for the first time in nearly four years. Potential opponents include Mexico’s Alan Picasso, the World Boxing Council’s top-ranked contender at junior featherweight, or fellow Japanese fighter Junto Nakatani, the WBC bantamweight champion based out of Los Angeles.

“I don’t know how complete I am as a boxer,” Inoue said. “I want to keep training so that I can keep improving until the end of my career.”

Japanese boxing sensation Naoya Inoue is set to take on Las Vegas after a dominating performance against Ye Joon Kim. Inoue made quick work of Kim, knocking him out in just four rounds to retain his title.

With this impressive victory under his belt, Inoue is now eyeing a showdown in the boxing capital of the world. Las Vegas is known for hosting some of the biggest fights in the sport, and Inoue is ready to make his mark on the city’s storied boxing history.

Fans can expect fireworks when Inoue steps into the ring in Las Vegas. His speed, power, and technical skill make him a force to be reckoned with in the ring, and he is sure to put on a show for the fans in attendance.

Stay tuned for more updates on Naoya Inoue’s upcoming fight in Las Vegas. This is one event that boxing fans won’t want to miss.

  • Naoya ‘Monster’ Inoue beats Ye Joon Kim in fourth round

Japanese world champion Naoya Inoue defended his undisputed super-bantamweight crown with a destructive fourth-round stoppage win against the overmatched Ye Joon Kim.

The 31-year-old controlled the opening rounds before increasing the intensity and dropping Kim with a flush right hand at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena.

The Korean challenger, who took the fight at just 11 days’ notice, valiantly attempted to get up on the count of 10 but the 32-year-old was saved from further damage as the referee halted the contest.

Nicknamed ‘Monster’ for his outstanding knockout ratio, unbeaten Inoue defended his WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF and Ring Magazine titles with a 26th stoppage in 29 professional wins.

“I didn’t have enough time to study my opponent so I took some time to see what’s coming from him,” Inoue said.

Inoue is a four-weight world champion and arguably boxing’s number one pound-for-pound boxer.

He is also a two-weight undisputed champion having won all four recognised world titles at bantamweight.

Inoue said his next two fights will take place in Las Vegas and Saudi Arabia.

In a stunning display of power and precision, Naoya “Monster” Inoue made quick work of Ye Joon Kim, defeating him in the fourth round of their highly anticipated bout. From the opening bell, Inoue’s speed and accuracy were on full display as he landed a series of devastating punches that had Kim on the defensive from the start.

As the fight progressed, Inoue continued to showcase his superior skill and ring IQ, effortlessly dodging Kim’s attacks and countering with his own brutal combinations. In the fourth round, Inoue unleashed a ferocious onslaught of punches that left Kim reeling and unable to continue, prompting the referee to step in and declare Inoue the victor.

With this impressive win, Inoue solidifies his status as one of the top fighters in the world and further cements his reputation as a true “Monster” in the ring. Fans can’t wait to see who he will take on next in his quest for boxing supremacy.

  • Robert Pattinson Joins Bong Joon Ho In Korea For ‘Mickey 17’ Event

Bong Joon Ho and Robert Pattinson kicked off the long-awaited launch of Mickey 17 with the first official press event for the movie in the Korean capital of Seoul on Monday.

Korean director Bong’s first feature since his 2019 Cannes Palme d’Or and quadruple Oscar winner Parasite, the sci-fi drama has been a long time coming, with the shoot having wrapped in December 2022.

Having been originally scheduled for a March 29, 2024 release, the film will now world premiere at the Berlinale in February, ahead of releasing theatrically in Korea on February 28, followed by March 7 in the U.S. by Warner Bros.

“It’s exciting to have the honor of premiering Mickey 17 in Korea before it hits cinemas worldwide in March,” Bong told the press conference at Seoul’s Yongsan CGV cinema.

It marked a first visit to Korea for Pattinson who was greeted by hundreds of fans as he touched down at Seoul’s Incheon Airport.

“I’m just so happy people are excited about the movie. It has been a long road to come to this release and to see people excited and with the poster already and wanting it signed. It’s exciting,” he said.

The Twilight, The Batman and Tenet star said he was puzzled as to why he had never made it to Korea before.

“I don’t understand how I’ve never come to Seoul with promotional tours with other movies. I’ve always wanted to come. I know a lot of fun people who live here, and I wanted to meet up with these guys again,” he said referring to Bong and his producing team.

Adapted from Edward Ashton’s 2022 sci-fi novel of ‘Mickey 7’, Mickey 17 revolves around a directionless man living in a near future who signs up for a job as an “expendable”, or disposable employee sent on dangerous missions who is automatically regenerated if he perishes on the job.

“The script seems deceptively simple at first,” said Pattinson. “But then when you try to break down Mickey’s mentality, this guy who has zero self-confidence but somehow doesn’t feel sorry for himself, it gets complicated really quickly. I ended up thinking of him as this poorly trained dog who needs to die 17 times to finally learn something.”

Bong said the film was more than “just” a sci-fi movie.

“It’s about humanity. The story of Mickey revolves around an ordinary powerless and vulnerable young man,” he explained.

“Unlike the original novel where Mickey is portrayed as a history teacher and the story is filled with technical explanations about science, I chose to strip away these details and focus purely on the human aspects, to present Mickey as member of the working class, a lonely figure with an extreme job.”

Recounting his experiences shooting the film, Pattinson recounted how the set had the feel of “giant Star Wars” production and revealed that he and the rest of the cast – which features Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo – had been intrigued by Bong’s directing style in which he got his actors to deliver one or two lines at a time.

“I think all the actors had the same experience in that we’d turn up, and then ask, ‘What’s happening? We shoot one line and then move on?’. After one week, everyone is like, ‘This is the best, we want to do every movie like this’… also you [Bong] are so open with showing the edit on set. It’s fascinating to see that you have the entire movie in your head before we have already started shooting it.”

Bong suggested their bemusement was due to the different way Korean filmmakers shoot and edit their films.

“In Korea, we typically edit directly on set which is not very common in the U.S. so foreign actors often find it fascinating to see editing done in real-time,” he said.

Robert Pattinson, known for his roles in Twilight and The Batman, has joined acclaimed director Bong Joon Ho in Korea for the ‘Mickey 17’ event. The event, which is set to showcase Bong Joon Ho’s latest project, has created quite a buzz in the film industry.

Fans are excited to see the collaboration between these two talented individuals, with many eager to see what magic they will create together. Bong Joon Ho, known for his hit film Parasite, is sure to bring his unique vision to this project, while Robert Pattinson’s acting chops are sure to shine on screen.

Stay tuned for more updates on ‘Mickey 17’ and the exciting collaboration between Robert Pattinson and Bong Joon Ho. This is definitely a project to keep an eye on!

  • Bong Joon Ho presents Mickey 17 in Seoul with Robert Pattinson, says he wanted to write a screenplay that AI could not | Hollywood

    Jan 20, 2025 09:08 PM IST

Oscar-winning director Bong Joon Ho is back with Mickey 17, a sci-fi film starring Robert Pattinson in the lead role. The film releases in theatres in March.

Director Bong Joon Ho‘s much-awaited film Mickey 17, his first project since Oscar-winning Parasite, is all set to premiere at Berlin Film Festival. The film’s lead star Robert Pattinson and director Bong Joon Ho were present at the press conference of the film at Seoul, where they posed for pictures and talked about making the film. The director not only addressed the delays that the film has been facing in terms of release, but also added his thoughts on ‘outsmarting’ AI. What Bong said

As per a new report by Screen Daily, Bong opened up about the growth in artificial intelligence (AI) in recent years and said: “I ask myself every night, how can I write a screenplay that AI could not? I want to make a ‘move 78’ in every other page of my screenplays. How can we outsmart AI? I want to become a writer who writes one screenplay a year that AI could never replicate.” He added that the film’s release was delayed due to the strikes last year.

    On casting Robert Pattinson

On the decision to cast Robert in the lead role, the director said: “Robert is, of course, known for playing superheroes like Batman, but [I had also seen him in] the Safide brothers’ Good Time and [Robert Eggers’] The Lighthouse. He has demonstrated remarkable talent in such great independent American films, so I had always been interested in him. The role [of Mickey] demanded duality, shifting between the pitiful and slightly stupid Mickey 17 to the manic yet charismatic Mickey 18, so I had Pattinson in mind from the start. The casting process was relatively easy too, as it seems he wanted to play an oddball character like this.”

The film is based on author Edward Ashton’s novel of the same title and features an ensemble cast. It also includes Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo. Edward’s novel, which was published earlier this year, centres on Mickey7, a man on an expedition to colonise the ice world Niflheim.

Squid Game Season 2 alone introduced fans to a grand roster of new cast member introductions. The series has undoubtedly dragged its reputation for infamous reasons attached to the many male actor castings shrouded in years-old controversies and scandals. However, there’s no denying that the December 26 premiere welcoming the likes of Yim Siwan, Park Sung Hoon, Park Gyu Young, Kang Ha Neul and Lee Jin Wook, among others, has boosted the show’s skyrocketing visibility. Love it or hate it, there’s no turning back from the fact that Season 2 has equally shaped up to be one of the biggest shows in Netflix’s history, thanks to its record-breaking opening with the show ranking No 1 in 92 of the 93 countries the streamer lists on its weekly rankings (December 23-29).

BTS’ V / Kim Taehyung Squid Game rumours

Years of speculation have led BTS ARMYs to this point. Season 2 already brought on a K-pop heavy cast roster, including former IZ*ONE member Jo Yuri, ex-BIGBANG singer T.O.P., aka Choi Seung Hyung, and ZE:A’s Siwan. Now that Netflix has seemingly slipped out the Season 3 premiere date for June 2025, fans couldn’t help but jog their memories for long-lost clues tying the show’s strings back to BTS’ V. Taehyung suspiciously donned the Squid Game guard cosplay during the K-pop act’s PERMISSION TO DANCE ON STAGE concerts in Los Angeles. Moreover, he and the show’s leading star, Lee Jung Jae previously snapped a selfie, still visible on the latter’s Instagram profile, hinting at their potential multiple hangout sessions.

On top of that, V is believed to share a close bond with Siwan as well. The Squid Game Season 2 newcomer previously mentioned the BTS star in an interview, addressing that Taehyung was one of the last additions to his Instagram following list at the time.

All these receipts that served as blasts from the past have come full circle now that Lee Jung Jae and his co-star Wi Ha Joon were directly asked about the rumours of V possibly joining the cast in the threequel. BuzzFeed UK interviewed the duo this week. Doing the BTS ARMY a favour, the outlet came right out and popped the question.

The tongue-tied Squid Game duo’s faces lit up as soon as they heard V’s name being dragged into the conversation. Lee quickly abrupted the train of thought, saying, “I can’t say anything about that,” whereas a beaming Wi Ha Joon maintained his “No comment” stance.

Hopeful fans haven’t yet accepted this response as an outright rejection of their “Kim Taehyung actor” comeback agenda.
