  • Report: Lions are expected to hire DL coach Kacy Rodgers

The Lions have spent the last few days saying goodbye to assistant coaches, but it appears they’re set to make an addition to Dan Campbell’s staff.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the Lions are expected to hire Kacy Rodgers as their new defensive line coach. Terrell Williams had that job in 2024, but left to become the defensive coordinator for the Patriots.

Rodgers has been the defensive line coach in Tampa since 2019 and he added the defensive run game coordinator title in 2022. Rodgers’s contract with the Buccaneers expired after the end of the team’s season, so he is free to make a lateral move.

The Lions still have to fill their openings at offensive and defensive coordinator. Campbell said that he would look at internal and external options for those roles.

The Detroit Lions are reportedly set to hire Kacy Rodgers as their new defensive line coach, according to reports. Rodgers, who most recently served as the defensive line coach for the New York Jets, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role.

During his time with the Jets, Rodgers helped develop a strong defensive line unit that consistently put pressure on opposing quarterbacks and stopped the run effectively. His coaching style and attention to detail have been praised by players and colleagues alike, making him a highly sought-after candidate for coaching positions.

The Lions are hoping that Rodgers can bring his expertise to their defensive line, which struggled at times during the previous season. With his track record of success and ability to get the most out of his players, Rodgers is expected to make an immediate impact on the team’s defense.

Stay tuned for more updates as the Lions finalize the hiring of Kacy Rodgers as their new defensive line coach.

  • Lions snipe Packers for defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, current Tampa Bay Buccaneers run game coordinator/defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers is set to become the Detroit Lions’ defensive line coach. Rodgers will replace Terrell Williams, who was Detroit’s defensive line coach before taking on the New England Patriots’ defensive coordinator position.

Rodgers was one of three reported interviews that the Packers set up with defensive line coaches to replace Aaron Rebrovich, who they fired earlier this offseason. Rodgers, Aaron Whitecotton of the New York Jets and former Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Eric Washington are the coaches who head coach Matt LaFleur has brought in so far.

It is debatable whether Rodgers was the Packers’ leading candidate for the job, but it’s worth noting that he was the only candidate with an active coordinator title.

Considering that Williams was named a defensive coordinator on Wednesday and the Packers released Rebrovich from his contract nearly a week ago, it’s safe to say that the Lions moved quickly to get this deal done.

Now that the Bears and Jets have hired head coaches, it appears that offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich and defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley will return to the team in 2025, so at least the Packers don’t have to replace those coaches. Beyond their defensive line coach opening, the only other vacancy on their roster is their quarterbacks coach, as Tom Clements has retired. So far, we’ve heard nothing about who is in consideration to be Jordan Love’s next quarterbacks coach.

The Detroit Lions have made a major move to bolster their coaching staff by sniping the Green Bay Packers for defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers. Rodgers, who previously served as the Packers’ defensive line coach, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Lions’ coaching staff.

Rodgers is widely regarded as one of the top defensive line coaches in the NFL, and his addition to the Lions’ coaching staff is sure to have a positive impact on the team’s defense. With Rodgers at the helm, the Lions’ defensive line is poised to become even more formidable and disruptive.

This move by the Lions is a clear signal that they are serious about improving their defense and competing at the highest level in the NFL. With Rodgers on board, the Lions are well-positioned to take their defense to the next level and make a run at the playoffs in the upcoming season. Lions fans can look forward to seeing their team’s defense dominate on the field under Rodgers’ guidance.

  • Detroit Lions hiring Kacy Rodgers as next DL coach

The Detroit Lions have already begun the process of rebuilding their coaching staff. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Lions are hiring Kacy Rodgers as their next defensive line coach. He fills the exact role left vacant when Terrell Williams left earlier this week to become the New England Patriots’ defensive coordinator.

Rodgers comes to Detroit after serving as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ run game coordinator/defensive line coach. So he’s taking a lateral move to Detroit after his contract with the Buccaneers expired. Rodgers has spent the last six seasons with the Buccaneers—the first three as the defensive line coach, and the following three with the same role but with run game coordinator added to his responsibilities.

The Buccaneers have had no shortage of defensive line talent run through their rankings during Rodgers’ tenure. Most notably, Rodgers helped build the careers of defensive tackle Vita Vea, William Gholston, and even helped our old friend Ndamukong Suh during the twilight of his career. In 2020, Rodgers earned the John Teerlinck Defensive Line Coach of the Year honors, given to the NFL’s top defensive line coach, as voted by NFL coaches. In 2024, the Buccaneers ranked t-sixth in sacks (46) and fourth in run defense (97.8 yards/game).

Rodgers crossed paths with Campbell in Miami when he was the Dolphins’ defensive line coach from 2008-14. Since that time, he’s been Todd Bowles’ defensive line coach with the Jets and Bucs and earned a run game coordinator title back in 2022.

Rodgers was on our list of potential defensive coordinator candidates for the Lions and the Green Bay Packers had also interviewed Rodgers for their defensive line coach vacancy.

The Detroit Lions have made a big move in their coaching staff, hiring Kacy Rodgers as their next defensive line coach. Rodgers comes to the Lions with a wealth of experience, having previously served as the defensive coordinator for the New York Jets and most recently as the defensive line coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Rodgers is known for his ability to develop defensive linemen and get the most out of his players. His track record of success in the NFL makes him a valuable addition to the Lions coaching staff, and fans can expect to see a more aggressive and dominant defensive line under his guidance.

With Rodgers now on board, the Lions are looking to improve their defense and make a push for the playoffs in the upcoming season. His expertise and leadership will be instrumental in helping the team reach their goals and compete at a high level in the competitive NFC North division.

Lions fans, get ready for an exciting season ahead with Kacy Rodgers leading the charge on the defensive line! #OnePride #DetroitLions #KacyRodgers #DLcoach
