  • Mikal Bridges, Karl-Anthony Towns bringing Knicks to ‘another level’

Perhaps the best indication of what’s important for these Knicks — or what’s most relevant to their status as either contenders or pretenders — was the theme of Wednesday night’s postgame locker room interviews.

The players, already solidified as one of the NBA’s best starting fives, had just finished setting a Knicks record for most points in three consecutive games.

They averaged a ridiculous 136 points over that stretch. The franchise has been around since the 1940s and never scored that much.

But there was something more notable about the way the Knicks handled their business this week. They stifled two of the NBA’s best offenses against Memphis and Denver.

They smothered both with defense and were proud of it.

“We’ve been able to show all of y’all,” Karl-Anthony Towns declared, “that we have another level or two to go.”

Indeed, levels for the Knicks are mostly measured in defensive improvement. Their offense, while impressive, was always assumed and powerful from the start.

But defense required time, most notably — but not limited to — the Towns and Mikal Bridges connection.

The pair is most likely to be involved in pick-and-roll actions with Bridges as the point-of-attack defender and Towns at center.

On opening night in Boston, they were so utterly lost the first impression took a long time to shake off — especially because the defensive struggles continued through most of November.

But as Towns and Bridges learned about each other’s preferences — and as they’ve discovered how best to utilize the strengths and weaknesses of their teammates — the Knicks are turning into a highly respectable, if not top-tier, defensive unit.

“I just think it was about being cohesive. We’re all new to playing with each other. Me, Kal, we’re new guys here,” Towns said. “We’re just trying to figure it out and understand what everyone’s strengths are.

“So I think these last couple games, me and Kal have had a good rapport with each other when it comes to the pick-and-roll defense and understanding how we want to attack the offensive players and where our margin of error is, you know? So Mikal’s done a great job at the point of attack. I’ve tried to do my best to utilize my hands to get some steals or also use my length to make passes much more difficult and have them pass them into the corner with some pressure. That allows OG [Anunoby] and J.B. [Jalen Brunson] and Josh [Hart] to do what they do best, which is being in the passing lane and get the steal and then we get to push in transition. For me, it was just getting used to these guys and what they do best.”

After a Jan. 20 win against the Hawks — which included locking up Trae Young down the stretch to kick off the current five-game winning streak — Bridges said Towns staying up on ball screens, rather than dropping back, was a positive adjustment.

“[When Towns] drops back, guards come around [the screen] snaking and get to where they want. But him being up helps the team defense and helps the guy on the ball to get back,” Bridges said, with Hart echoing that sentiment.

“Obviously, for the guys that were here before, it was a little bit different in terms of [Towns’] placement in the ball screens,” Hart said. “And I think that kind of took a second to get into a rhythm. But I think we’re doing it now. He’s been amazing in terms of communication. And guys that he has to be up [against in the pick and roll], he is and making it tough for guys.”

The numbers bear out a fairly prolonged improvement on defense that coincides, not shockingly, with winning. Before Nov. 28, the Knicks were 10-8 with the 24th-rated defense.

Since Nov. 28, the Knicks are 22-8 with the NBA’s second-most wins, the seventh-rated defense and statistics improved markedly across the board.

They’re allowing fewer 3-pointers, fewer free throws, fewer points and creating more turnovers.

Meanwhile, the offense has been steadily fantastic — going from ranked No. 2 before Nov. 28 to fourth post-Nov. 28.

So what’s the difference in winning more games?

    The defense.

But it didn’t feel real until this five-game winning streak, when the Knicks — who padded their record in December against bottom dwellers — stifled the good teams and their superstars.

Against the Knicks this week, Ja Morant and Nikola Jokic averaged 13.5 points and four assists while shooting under 40 percent. Next up is LeBron James and the Lakers on Saturday.

“No one ever judges us about offense — this team has offensive firepower,” Towns said. “But I understand that we haven’t shown the best version of ourselves defensively, and I think that these last couple games we’ve been able to show execution on that side.”

The New York Knicks are looking to take their game to “another level” with the help of Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns.

Both Bridges and Towns have been making waves in the NBA with their stellar performances on the court. Bridges, known for his defensive prowess and three-point shooting, has been a key player for the Phoenix Suns. On the other hand, Towns, a dominant force in the paint and on the perimeter, has been a standout player for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Now, the duo is set to bring their talents to the Knicks, who are eager to make a statement in the league. With Bridges’ lockdown defense and sharpshooting, paired with Towns’ scoring and rebounding abilities, the Knicks are poised to become a formidable force in the Eastern Conference.

Fans are buzzing with excitement at the prospect of seeing Bridges and Towns donning the orange and blue, and are hopeful that their arrival will help propel the Knicks to new heights.

Stay tuned as the Knicks look to elevate their game with Bridges and Towns leading the charge. #KnicksNation #MikalBridges #KarlAnthonyTowns #AnotherLevel

  • Karl-Anthony Towns’ thumb injury not going away despite improved shooting

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=43HDFP_0yT0REpY00

Karl-Anthony Towns hasn’t recovered from his thumb injury, but he is adjusting to life with it.

After hitting just 1-of-10 3-point shots in three games since returning from a bone chip and sprained right thumb, the Knicks big man was 2-for-4 from long range in Monday’s 143-106 win over Memphis at Madison Square Garden.

“Man, it’s been a struggle,” Towns said. “I looked bad. I’ve been worried myself.”

    His confidence didn’t waver.

Knicks completely flipped the script on their season-long narrative

“I’ve been good every day, regardless of what happens, having a shooter’s mindset, the next one’s in,” Towns said. “Just kept shooting the basketball and my teammates instill a bunch of confidence in me regardless of what’s happening. I just want to reward them for that kind of trust in me and I’m happy I hit some 3s to give ourselves more spacing on offense.”

Asked if the improved results were a product of his thumb feeling better, Towns said, “It’s not that. [I’m] just getting more comfortable [with it].”

He declined to elaborate on how the thumb was feeling, but he was effective Monday in scoring 24 points on 9-for-17 shooting overall.

Towns suffered the injury against the Pistons on Jan. 13, and missed the next two games before returning against Atlanta on Jan. 20.

In that game, still bothered by the injury, Towns missed all but one of his 3-point attempts and then went on to miss all four 3-pointers in the two games leading up to Monday’s showdown against Ja Morant and the Grizzlies.

Towns took his first 3-pointer just over two minutes into the game. He drained it to give the Knicks a very early lead that was never threatened.

Later in the first quarter, Towns attempted another 3-pointer and was clobbered by Memphis’ 7-foot-4 Zach Edey. He hit all three free throws.

Towns was good from long range again early in the third quarter, which helped spark a win-sealing 18-2 run, as the Knicks ran the Grizzlies off the floor in what turned into a mismatch in the second half.

Karl-Anthony Towns’ thumb injury has been a lingering issue for the Minnesota Timberwolves star, but despite his improved shooting in recent games, the injury does not seem to be going away. Towns has been playing through the pain and has shown resilience on the court, but it is clear that the injury is still affecting his performance.

Despite shooting better from the field and three-point range in recent games, Towns has still struggled with his ball-handling and post-up moves, which are areas where his injured thumb is likely having an impact. The injury has also affected his ability to grab rebounds and play defense at the level he is capable of.

It is concerning to see Towns continue to play through this injury, as further aggravation could lead to long-term issues. The Timberwolves should consider giving Towns some rest to allow his thumb to fully heal, rather than risking further injury by playing him in every game.

Towns’ determination and toughness are commendable, but his health should be the top priority. Hopefully, he can get the proper treatment and rest he needs to fully recover from this thumb injury and return to the dominant form we know he is capable of.

  • Karl-Anthony Towns’ shooting slump hasn’t hurt Knicks yet

The Knicks have been rolling with five consecutive wins, even with a downturn in production from 3-point range by All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns over that span.

Towns had been shooting a career-best 44.9 percent from long distance through Jan. 13 before sitting out two games with a sprain and bone chip in his right thumb

Karl-Anthony Towns reacts during the Knicks-Nuggets game on Jan. 29, 2025.

Towns still leads all Knicks regulars at 42.4 percent, but he has missed 15 of his last 18 attempts from beyond the arc during the winning streak entering Saturday night’s home game against the Lakers, including an 0-for-4 showing in Wednesday’s win over the Nuggets.

Kevin McCullar Jr., the Knicks’ second-round pick (56th overall) out of Kansas, made his professional debut Thursday night for G League Westchester following a collegiate knee injury.

The 6-foot-6 forward scored 10 points on 4-for-9 shooting in 16 minutes in a loss to the Osceola Magic.

“Man, after a long year, it felt good to be back out there competing!” the 23-year-old McCullar posted on X. “God is so good.”

Anthony Davis (abdominal strain) and Christian Wood (knee) are out for the Lakers.

Dorian Finney-Smith (shoulder) and Gabe Vincent (knee) are questionable, while LeBron James (knee) and Rui Hachimura (calf) are probable.

Josh Hart (right knee soreness) is listed as questionable again for the Knicks.

Seldom-used rookie Pacome Dadiet is out with a sprained toe.

The Knicks’ bench has provided a nice lift during the team’s winning streak.

Miles McBride has netted 26 points over the past two games, with Precious Achiuwa totaling 22 and Cam Payne 18 in the wins earlier this week over the Grizzlies and the Nuggets.

Landry Shamet also has been a part of a nine-man rotation in all five games, notching a season-high nine points last Saturday against the Kings.

Karl-Anthony Towns, one of the New York Knicks’ key players, has been struggling with his shooting lately. However, his shooting slump hasn’t seemed to hurt the team yet.

Despite shooting below his usual percentages, Towns has still been contributing in other ways on the court. His rebounding, passing, and defense have all been solid, helping to make up for his lackluster shooting. Additionally, the rest of the team has been stepping up to pick up the slack and secure wins.

While it’s important for Towns to find his shooting rhythm again, it’s reassuring to see the Knicks performing well even when one of their star players isn’t at his best. This just goes to show the depth and resilience of the team, and bodes well for their success moving forward.

  • Karl-Anthony Towns’ Knicks goals go beyond making All-Star history

The two Knicks named to the starting lineup of the All-Star Game next month have their eyes on also joining Walt Frazier and Earl Monroe in a far more historical classification.

Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns became the first Knicks teammates to be tabbed as starters for the Eastern Conference — for the Feb. 26 showcase event in San Francisco — since Clyde and The Pearl did so five decades earlier in 1975.

Of course, that Hall of Fame duo also comprised the starting backcourt for the Knicks on the franchise’s most recent NBA championship squad two years before that in 1973.

Karl-Anthony Towns looks on during the Knicks-Nets game on Jan. 21, 2025. NBAE via Getty Images

“For sure, it’s a huge honor to be selected to the All-Star team. All-Star selections are an amazing honor. But rings are cooler, so we’ll try to do that,” Towns said after practice Friday in Tarrytown. “It’s super special to even be mentioned with names like that.

“I grew up in this area [in New Jersey] and to have my name close to their names is something you just dream about when you’re young. So I’m super-honored, to say the least. And I’m just really happy to have the opportunity to represent my teammates because they’re the reason that we’re able to do this.

The 29-year-old Towns, who has scored 25.0 points per game and ranks second in the NBA in rebounds (13.9), will be making his first career start among five All-Star appearances.

Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson became the first Knicks teammates to be tabbed as starters for the Eastern Conference since 1975.  Charles Wenzelberg/New York Post

Brunson received his initial All-Star nod as a reserve for the East one year ago.

“It means a lot,” Brunson said when asked about the connection to Frazier and Monroe. “It’s been a while for this organization. I’m just happy I was able to do it. I can’t really put it into words. It’s an honor.”

The 28-year-old Brunson’s father, Rick, is both a former player and a current assistant coach with the Knicks.

Jalen Brunson said he has a “really cool” relationship with Frazier, the greatest point guard in team history and a fan favorite as the team’s iconic longtime TV analyst.

“When we first had him on the [”Roommates”] podcast [with teammate Josh Hart], I learned a lot about him,” Brunson said of Frazier. “We’ve talked a lot off camera, as well. To hear his experience and everything, and to see just how competitive he can be, it’s really cool [to have] that relationship with someone like that who means so much to the city.”

Like Towns, Brunson also credited the Knicks’ winning record (29-16) ahead of Saturday’s game against the surging Kings — the opener of a five-game homestand — for his personal recognition.

Karl-Anthony Town reacts during the Knicks-Nets game on Jan. 21, 2025. AP

Brunson will start alongside Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell in the East’s backcourt after edging out Charlotte’s LaMelo Ball, the leading vote-getter at the position in the fan balloting.

“I knew [starting] was a possibility, but didn’t get my hopes up too high. Very thankful,” said Brunson, who is averaging 26.0 points and a career-best 7.3 assists per game. “Whenever an award like this happens, it’s individual, but it’s a team award.

“I wouldn’t be here if we weren’t in the position that we are now … I’m very thankful to the fans and to the players and coaches, as well. It’s an honor I don’t take lightly.”

Tom Thibodeau echoed the team concept for the Towns/Brunson honor, something he also noted as a strength of the Knicks’ title-winning squads of the ’70s.

“It is great. And I mentioned this to [team president] Leon [Rose] and Wes [VP William Wesley] last night, and they’ve done a great job of making this attractive for all the players in this league,” Thibodeau said.

“We have a great history. And I think to have Walt and Pearl recognized is special, but it’s been going on since Leon and Wes have been here. To bring back our former players, and certainly what Walt and Earl and those teams did, we’re very proud of, and so it’s sort of neat to have them here and to share in it with Jalen and KAT.”

Karl-Anthony Towns has been making waves in the NBA this season, not only for his impressive performances on the court but also for his lofty goals with the New York Knicks. While many players strive to make history by being selected to multiple All-Star games, Towns has his sights set on something even bigger.

In a recent interview, Towns revealed that his ultimate goal with the Knicks is to bring a championship back to New York. This may seem like a daunting task, considering the Knicks’ recent struggles, but Towns is determined to turn the franchise around and lead them to the promised land.

Towns has already proven himself as one of the top players in the league, earning multiple All-Star selections and putting up impressive numbers night in and night out. But for Towns, individual accolades are not enough. He wants to be remembered as a champion, and he believes that he can achieve that goal with the Knicks.

While Towns’ ambition may seem bold, his dedication and work ethic make it seem attainable. With the support of his teammates and the coaching staff, Towns is ready to take on the challenge of bringing a championship to New York and solidifying his legacy as one of the greats in NBA history.

As fans eagerly watch Towns’ journey with the Knicks unfold, one thing is certain: he is not content with just making All-Star history. He has his sights set on something much bigger, and with his talent and determination, anything is possible.

  • Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart ‘fine’ as they battle injuries

Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart both participated in practice Sunday, but they are listed as questionable for the Knicks’ MLK Day matinee against the Hawks.

Towns has missed the past two games due to a right thumb issue and Hart played through what looked like a painful left shoulder injury suffered in the third quarter of Friday’s home loss to the Timberwolves.

The Knicks officially listed his injury as a neck/cervical compression.

“They went through practice, and we’ll see where they are tomorrow,” Tom Thibodeau said Sunday. “They were fine.”

Jalen Brunson said both of his teammates “looked fantastic” in practice, jokingly saying they’re both “great-looking men.”

Asked about Hart, his longtime teammate with Villanova and the Knicks, Brunson said, “Being able to play through pain, that’s just who [Hart] is, and he’s always been like that.”

“Normally, he’s not one of those guys that is gonna stay down long. If he can go, he goes,” Thibodeau added of Hart. “He’s tough-minded, and so it was good to have him come back and then to see him out there today. We’ll see how he responds [Monday].”

According to Brunson, playing on the MLK Day holiday “means a lot,” and he called it “a privilege to play this game in this league.”

“It’s more of a privilege to play on days like this. You play on Christmas Day, on MLK Day, it means a lot and especially what he stood for and what he believed in. I think most importantly, we continue to talk about him and praise him for the things he did and just be thankful because a lot of us wouldn’t be in the positions that we’re in.”

Thibodeau: “I think it’s an important day for not only our league, but our country. I think all the things that Martin Luther King stood for, it’s withstood the test of time. And it was the equality for all people, not one particular group. It was for everybody, and it’s really strong and powerful. And I think it represents our league.”

Zaccharie Risacher (adductor strain) and Larry Nance Jr. (hand) are out for the Hawks. Trae Young (Achilles) and Jalen Johnson (shoulder) are probable.

The New York Knicks have provided an update on the health of two key players, Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart, who are both currently battling injuries.

According to the team, Towns is dealing with a minor ankle sprain but is expected to be fine and should not miss any significant time. The star center has been a crucial part of the Knicks’ success this season, averaging 24.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.

Hart, on the other hand, is nursing a sore knee but is also considered to be in good shape and is expected to be available for the team’s upcoming games. The guard has been a valuable contributor off the bench, providing energy and defensive intensity.

Both Towns and Hart are key pieces for the Knicks as they look to make a playoff push in the competitive Eastern Conference. The team will continue to monitor their injuries and provide updates as necessary, but for now, fans can rest assured that both players are in good hands and should be back on the court soon.

  • Karl-Anthony Towns Status Revealed For Today’s Matchup Against Atlanta

Coming into today’s matchup vs the Hawks, the Knicks had listed Karl-Anthony Towns as questionable and they have just released his official playing status for today’s game. Towns will be able to play, as will Josh Hart.

After stunning the Boston Celtics on Saturday, the Atlanta Hawks are finishing up a short three-game road trip in Madison Square Garden against the Knicks, a team they have already beaten twice this season. Atlanta and New York have had quite a few memorable games in recent years, dating back to their matchup in the first round of the 2021 playoffs. This is a huge game in the Eastern Conference and could even be a future look at another playoff series this season.

Our own Rohan Raman previewed the game earlier today:

“Coming into tonight’s game, the Hawks are 6th in the NBA in PPG, 16th in FG%, 15th in 3PA, 20th in 3P%, 3rd in FTA, 23rd in turnovers, and 5th in rebounding. Per Cleaning the Glass, Atlanta is 16th in points per 100 possessions, 19th in effective field goal percentage, 19th in turnover percentage, 10th in offensive rebounding percentage, and 8th in free throw rate.

Currently, the Hawks rank 28th in PPG allowed, 23rd in field goal percentage allowed, 28th in three-point attempts allowed, and 27th in three-point percentage allowed. Per Cleaning the Glass, Atlanta is 15th in points allowed per 100 possessions and 27th in effective field goal percentage allowed.

Point-blank, the Knicks have one of the most high-powered offenses in basketball. They are 7th in PPG, 3rd in FG%, 25th in three point attempts, 5th in 3P%, 18th in free throw attempts, 22nd in rebounding, and 5th in turnovers. Per Cleaning the Glass, New York is 2nd in points per 100 possessions, 2nd in effective field goal percentage, 5th in turnover percentage, 13th in offensive rebounding percentage, and 11th in free throw rate.

On defense, they do a good job of slowing down opposing offenses. They rank 9th in PPG allowed, 19th in field goal percentage allowed, 6th in three-point attempts allowed, and 26th in three-point percentage allowed. Per Cleaning the Glass, they are 16th in points allowed per 100 possessions and 22nd in effective field goal percentage allowed.

One of the most interesting aspects of this game is the potential matchup between Onyeka Okongwu and Karl-Anthony Towns. Although Towns might be out, it would be an excellent test for Okongwu if he does end up playing. Okongwu has been playing the best basktball of his career as of late – he’s averaging 18.3 points, 15.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.7 blocks on 60.6/75/70.6 shooting splits in his last three games. However, putting up comparable numbers against a true seven-footer with shooting skill in Towns would be a sign that Okongwu’s uptick in production is here to stay.

As always, the matchup between Trae Young and Jalen Brunson is going to be a key component of this game. I expect Brunson to see a heavy dose of Dyson Daniels, but it will also be interesting to see how Young will hold up on defense against Brunson. One of the quieter storylines of the year has been the improvements Young has made on that end of the floor. He is no longer a walking target for opposing offenses to relentlessly target.

DeAndre Hunter looked more like himself against Boston with 16 points off the bench, but he only connected on 1 of his eight threes. If the Hawks are to take this game from New York, they will likely need a strong effort from Hunter and it would be nice to see some more success from three-point range. He’s been one of Atlanta’s best shooters all year.

If Josh Hart or Towns are out, I would expect this to be a game where Atlanta can have success against New York on the boards. Atlanta has been one of the strongest rebounding teams in the league and New York has struggled in the same area all year, Both Hart and Towns have been vital to the Knicks’ rebounding and they will be at a massive disadvantage without either of them.

Jalen Johnson recorded a double-double (14 pts, 13 rebounds), but he struggled with his efficiency. He went 5-13 from the field and missed both of his attempts from deep. It will take him some time to work back from injury and things won’t be any easier against New York. OG Anunoby is one of the best wing defenders in the league. If he has a good game against New York, it bodes well for him getting back to 100%.”

Onyeka Okongwu Has Been The Center of Attention For the Atlanta Hawks in 2025

Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns will be suiting up for tonight’s matchup against the Atlanta Hawks. Towns, who has been dealing with a wrist injury, has been cleared to play and will be a key player for the Timberwolves as they look to secure a win on the road.

Towns’ presence on the court will be crucial for the Timberwolves, as he is averaging 24.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game this season. His scoring ability and defensive presence will be essential in the team’s efforts to come out on top against the Hawks.

Fans can expect to see Towns making an impact on both ends of the court, using his size and skill to dominate in the paint and stretch the floor with his outside shooting. With Towns back in the lineup, the Timberwolves will have a much better chance at securing a victory in tonight’s game.

Be sure to tune in to watch Karl-Anthony Towns and the Timberwolves take on the Hawks tonight and see how he performs in his return to action.

  • Wolves’ Donte DiVincenzo out vs. Knicks; Karl-Anthony Towns iffy

NEW YORK — Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns is questionable to face his former team Friday with a sprained right thumb, while Minnesota‘s Donte DiVincenzo will miss his return to Madison Square Garden with a toe injury.

The game is Minnesota’s first at New York since the Knicks acquired Towns from the Timberwolves and sent Julius Randle and DiVincenzo to Minnesota just after training camps opened. The Knicks won at Minnesota last month.

Towns was hurt Monday in a loss to Detroit and sat out the Knicks’ victory at Philadelphia on Wednesday, when he wore an Eagles shirt on the bench in the first half.

DiVincenzo recently moved into the starting lineup and scored a season-high 28 points Wednesday in a 116-115 loss to Golden State. The Timberwolves, however, listed him as out on their injury report Thursday with a sprained left big toe.

The Milwaukee Bucks will be without guard Donte DiVincenzo as they face off against the New York Knicks. DiVincenzo is dealing with a lingering ankle injury that will keep him sidelined for this matchup.

On the other hand, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ star center Karl-Anthony Towns is listed as questionable for their game against the Toronto Raptors. Towns is dealing with a wrist injury and his availability will be a game-time decision.

Both teams will be monitoring the status of their key players closely as they look to secure important wins in their respective games. Stay tuned for updates on DiVincenzo and Towns as game time approaches.

NY Knicks coach has gone through major change since leaving Timberwolves, admits Karl-Anthony Towns

Karl-Anthony Towns reflects on his new relationship with the New York Knicks head coach.

Since getting traded to the New York Knicks, Karl-Anthony Towns has been playing arguably the best basketball of his career.

Initially, when the Knicks traded for KAT, many were skeptical of the move, but the noise has slowly settled down after seeing the veteran big man’s numbers this season.

A key reason behind the doubts was Towns’ potential sour relationship with Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau, as the two shared the locker room in Minnesota.

Karl-Anthony Towns says Tom Thibodeau has changed

A head coach’s backing is incredibly important for any star to reach his full potential in the NBA. Coach Thibs has seemingly backed Towns since his move to New York.

KAT recently reflected on his relationship with Thibodeau and had nothing but positive things to say about him.

“He’s a different man. I like this version going into 2025,” Towns said.

Towns also mentioned the biggest difference in Thibs since leaving the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“You see him smile. I’ve grown since the time when we were together in Minnesota, he’s grown. This game of life, we’re just finding ourselves getting better with time.”

It’s good to see that the two have settled their past differences as they continue to dominate the Eastern Conference in the 2024-25 NBA season.

Towns is having an MVP-caliber season

KAT is averaging 24.9 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game for the Knicks this season. He is also shooting an incredible 54.8% from the field and 44.0% from the three-point line.

The 29-year-old center is putting in humongous numbers while breaking Knicks records left and right. Towns has seemingly regained his joy for playing basketball.

That’s arguably a key reason behind his rejuvenated relationship with coach Thibs. The Knicks are unstoppable right now as they are the third seed in the East with a 24-10 record.

Tom Thibodeau ‘a different man’ with Knicks: Karl-Anthony Towns

Karl-Anthony Towns was coached by Tom Thibodeau for 2 ¹/₂ seasons early in his NBA career in Minnesota, and they didn’t always see eye-to-eye over the young big man’s development.

Even before they were reunited with the Knicks, Towns had said whatever beef there was between them already had been “squashed” and was “done years ago.”

The 29-year-old Towns said following Wednesday’s win over the Jazz that Thibodeau is “a different man” now and more mellow than he was a decade ago with the Timberwolves, before adding, “I like this version going into 2025.”

“You’ve seen him smile. I’ll keep it at that,” Towns said after registering 31 points and 21 rebounds in the Knicks’ ninth straight win ahead of Friday’s game in Oklahoma City. “I think that we all in life, we grow. I’ve grown since the time when we were together in Minnesota. He’s grown. I think that we’re just, in this game of life, we’re just finding ourselves and getting better all the time.”

Towns was named Player of the Month in the Eastern Conference for December after averaging 23.2 points and 14.6 rebounds while shooting 56.6 percent in 13 games. OKC’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (33.3 ppg) won the award in the West.

Towns is the first Knick since Patrick Ewing (1989-90) to record multiple 30-plus point, 20-plus rebound games in the same season.

Jalen Brunson (right calf tightness) and Miles McBride (left hamstring tightness) have been listed as questionable after sitting out Wednesday’s game.

Pacome Dadiet and Ariel Hukporti were assigned to G-League Westchester, but rookie Tyler Kolek was not, in case he’s needed to play.

In the first returns for All-Star voting, Towns ranks third in the frontcourt in the Eastern Conference behind Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jayson Tatum, which would put him on track to start the Feb. 16 showcase event at Chase Center in San Francisco.

Brunson ranks fourth among guards in the East, behind LaMelo Ball, Donovan Mitchell and Damian Lillard.

Towns on Kolek playing 40 minutes in a G-League game Wednesday and then 12 minutes off the bench for the Knicks later that night: “Yeah, I was very much aware. He played a lot of minutes today. He deserves a break. That goes back to AAU. … I’ve done that, but I never had a doubleheader in a single day in the NBA. So shout-out to him.”

In a recent interview, Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns had high praise for his former coach Tom Thibodeau, who is now leading the New York Knicks. Towns described Thibodeau as “a different man” with the Knicks, emphasizing the positive changes he has seen in his coaching style and approach.

Towns credited Thibodeau for his adaptability and willingness to evolve as a coach, noting that he has shown more patience and understanding with his players in New York. The All-Star center also commended Thibodeau for fostering a strong team culture and creating a supportive environment for his players to thrive.

With the Knicks currently exceeding expectations and competing for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, Towns believes that Thibodeau’s leadership has been a key factor in their success. He expressed confidence that Thibodeau’s coaching acumen and dedication to his players will continue to drive the Knicks towards further achievements in the future.

As Thibodeau continues to make a positive impact in New York, it’s clear that his former players like Towns have nothing but respect and admiration for the growth and development they have witnessed in their former coach. The Knicks are undoubtedly benefiting from Thibodeau’s new approach, and it’s exciting to see how far he can take them in the years to come.

Miles Bridges Over 7.5 Rebounds (-120)

Bulls vs. Hornets, 7 p.m. ET

    By Nick Galaida

Since returning from injury in mid-December, Miles Bridges is averaging 8.9 rebounds and 13.3 rebound chances across seven games played.

Tonight, the Hornets are likely to be without both LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller, two capable rebounders for Charlotte.

According to RotoGrinders CourtIQ, Bridges is averaging 9.4 rebounds per 36 minutes this season with both Ball and Bridges off of the floor.

He’s posted 7+ rebounds in each of the three games he’s played with Ball unavailable, and at least 7 rebounds in each of the last five games he’s played without Miller.

This is good value in a favorable matchup against Chicago, a team that ranks 25th in rebound percentage and 4th in pace across their last 10 contests.

Pick: Miles Bridges Over 7.5 Rebounds (-120)
