Akron looks to extend its eight-game winning streak today when it visits Kent State in this Friday night MAC clash.
The Zips haven’t lost since Dec. 30, when they fell 76-75 at Princeton. They’re 15-5 overall and 8-0 in league play, putting them at the top of the conference. Akron couldn’t miss when it throttled second-place Miami (Ohio) last Saturday. The Zips knocked down 15 triples and shot 44% from 3 in the 102-75 victory. They followed that up with an 80-70 win over Northern Illinois on Tuesday.
Kent State (13-7, 4-4) let a win get away when it lost 61-59 at Ohio last Friday. The Golden Flashes had plenty of opportunities down the stretch to pull away but couldn’t. The Flashes defeated Bowling Green by 18 on Tuesday and sit tied with Eastern Michigan for fourth place in the conference.
The last time these programs met was in last year’s MAC title game where Akron won 62-61. The Flashes will try to avenge that loss in what has become one of the best mid-major rivalries.

Kent State is a 1.5-point college basketball odds favorite on BetMGM against Akron while the Over/Under is 144.5 points.
The Moneyline for Akron is at +104 and at -120 for Kent State.
Akron at Kent State On TV
The matchup between Akron and Kent State will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
Tonight’s game tips off at 7 p.m. ET.
Akron at Kent State Prediction
I predict Kent State will get the close win here at home. I also predict this game will go under 144.5 points.
Akron has to lose a conference game at some point, right? Well, they don’t have to, but it’ll be very difficult for them to continue to remain unbeaten in league play.
This has a chance to be that regression spot for Akron and its hot offense.
Kent State is allowing just 64.2 points per game and, in conference games, has a defensive adjusted efficiency of 95.9, per KenPom. The Golden Flashes are allowing opponents to shoot 29% from deep in MAC play, which is the best mark in the league. Akron shoots 38% from the outside.
The Flashes aren’t the most efficient team — they shoot 40% from the field and 29% from 3 — but they make up for it with extra and extended possessions through turnovers and offensive rebounds. They force a turnover on 21.2% of opponents’ possessions and get an offensive board on 31% of possessions. Both rank first in the conference.
Those are the areas that can keep a potent offense like Akron from building a quick lead.
Senior Cli’ron Hornbeak leads the Flashes with 6.4 RPG, which ranks fourth in the conference. He’ll have a challenge against James Okonkwo, who is second in the MAC with 7.6 rebounds per game. Whoever wins the rebounding battle between these two could dictate who wins this game.
Six-foot-5 senior VonCameron Davis paces the Flashes with 15.9 PPG while Jalen Sullinger adds 12.2 points per night. Cian Medley has been playing well as of late and is coming off a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double against BGSU. I expect him to make some big plays.
The Zips have a pair of all-conference guards in Nate and Tavari Johnson. Nate is averaging 13.4 points, 4.7 boards, 3.4 assists, and two steals per game while Tavari averages 12.6 PPG and 4.2 APG. Akron has six guys that score at least 8.1 PPG.
Akron loves to play fast and has an adjusted tempo of 71.6. They will try and make this a track meet, and Kent State isn’t at its best in those situations. The Zips’ defense has been solid in MAC play and has an opponent field-goal percentage of 38%, the best in the conference. Their ADE of 92 is second-best in the MAC.
If this game were being played on a neutral court, I would give the edge to the Zips, but I think Kent State defends its home court and Akron regresses some offensively.
All of Akron’s five losses have come when it’s been an underdog. Kent State is 9-5 against the spread as a favorite and the total has gone over in only two of their wins.
College Basketball: Akron at Kent State Prediction, Odds & How To WatchIn a highly anticipated matchup, the Akron Zips will face off against the Kent State Golden Flashes in a thrilling college basketball game. Both teams have been playing at a high level this season, making this game a must-watch for fans of the sport.
The Akron Zips are coming off a strong performance in their last game, and they will look to carry that momentum into this matchup against their rivals. With a solid offense and a tough defense, the Zips are a force to be reckoned with on the court.
On the other hand, the Kent State Golden Flashes have also been playing well this season, with a strong record and some impressive wins under their belt. With a balanced attack and a stingy defense, the Golden Flashes will be a tough test for the Zips.
As for the odds, the game is expected to be a close one, with both teams having a good chance of coming out on top. However, the Akron Zips are slight favorites in this matchup, with a -3.5 point spread.
If you’re looking to catch this exciting game, you can watch it live on ESPN or stream it online through the ESPN app. So grab some snacks, settle in, and get ready for an intense game of college basketball between the Akron Zips and the Kent State Golden Flashes. It’s sure to be a nail-biter from start to finish!

Smallville’s Tom Welling On Returning For The Crisis On Infinite Earths Crossover Despite Being So ‘Protective’ Of Clark Kent, And The Keen Request He Had On Set

Tom Welling has forged a firm place for himself within superhero media through his role as Clark Kent on the WB/CW series Smallville. For ten seasons, Welling played out Kent’s extensive journey to becoming the Man of Steel and became quite synonymous with the character. With that, Welling eventually became “protective” of the character, though he did opt to reprise it in Crisis on Infinite Earths, one of the Arrowverse’s crossovers. Now, the actor is discussing why he returned, and he revealed a keen suggestion he made on the set.
Smallville’s 10-season run ended in 2011, seemingly ending the journey for Tom Welling’s Clark Kent and those in his orbit. So it was a pleasant surprise when it was revealed that Welling would return for 2020’s Crisis event alongside Lois Lane actress Erica Durance. While attending Fan Expo New Orleans alongside Durance and fellow co-stars Kristin Kreuk and Laura Vandvoort, the Draft Day alum was asked about his decision to reprise the role. Welling (as seen in a YouTube video) then proceeded to share a very thoughtful answer:
There had been some calls about me visiting some — when Smallville ended, there were some other shows that obviously started, like Superman-ish. And I’d gotten some calls, but they were all sort of like — they weren’t me acting on these shows, it was me playing Clark on these shows. And I really felt protective of the fact that Clark wouldn’t exist on those shows. And then, finally, someone who’s connected to [Crisis] said, ‘Listen, please just read it. It’s one scene, just please read it.’ And I read it, and I was like, ‘Fuck, that’s good.’ … It was just the one scene, and I was like, ‘Man, this is actually a good idea. This is the way to do it.’
More on Smallville
Tom Welling as Clark Kent in Smallville
Smallville: 10 Behind-The-Scenes Facts About The Superman Prequel Series
As for what that one scene (from “Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Two”) entailed, it saw Jon Cryer’s Lex Luthor visit the Kents’ farm on Earth-167. Luthor – who’d been killing Clarks across the multiverse – sought to do the same to Tom Welling’s Kent. However, the villain opted not to do so – due to his ego – after Clark revealed that he’d since given up his powers and settled down with Lois. And, after Luthor’s departure, Lane approached her partner to explain that their daughters were waiting for him. It was a brief scene but also a sweet one that serves as a solid bookend for Kent’s story.
I can still understand why the Cheaper by the Dozen alum would be hesitant just to take any opportunity to reprise his character, though. There’s a lot of love and affection for his iteration of Mr. Kent. And, as has been said by Smallville’s EPs, the Fog actor made for the “perfect” Clark Kent, so why mess with that legacy if it’s not worth it? At the expo, the veteran actor went on to reference Clark’s big superhuman abilities twist and more, but I really love the thoughtful way he approached playing this version of Clark, which led to a subtle suggestion:
Clark didn’t have his powers, and my way into that scene was I wanted to play Clark as if he grew into Jonathan Kent. Like, when I showed up, they didn’t have gloves for Clark, and I was like, ‘Can we get some gloves?’ And I ended up borrowing some gloves from one of the grips. Because I was like, ‘I don’t have superpowers.’ And it’s just like weird things that get you attached to characters, and I tried to walk a little more like John Schneider in a way.
As a fan, I greatly appreciate just how thoughtful the Winchesters alum was when approaching his return as Clark. I also love the fact that he went on to give Erica Durance kudos for her brief appearance and for managing to quickly respark the playful relationship that Clark and Lois possessed for some many years. Fans are still pining to see more of their dynamics and those of the other characters and, if some of the cast get their way, it could happen.
Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum (who played Lex Luthor) have reportedly been attempting to produce an animated continuation series, with the OG creators attached as well. Previously, Welling said that for a spinoff to happen, they’d need a firm answer from Warner Bros. So it’s hard to say whether that project will come to fruition but, at the very least, I’m glad Welling and Erica Durance decided to return for Crisis and managed to give some further sense of closure to their characters.
All ten seasons of Smallville are now available to stream with a Hulu subscription. You can also head over to Tubi to watch Tom Welling’s return as Clark Kent on Batwoman’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Two.”
Smallville fans rejoice! Tom Welling, who famously portrayed Clark Kent in the hit TV series Smallville, will be reprising his role for the highly anticipated Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event.Despite being known for being “protective” of his character, Welling decided to make a return for this special occasion. In a recent interview, he shared that he wanted to pay homage to the character that he portrayed for so many years and give fans the chance to see where Clark Kent is now.
On set, Welling had a keen request for the creators of the crossover. He wanted to make sure that his character’s journey was respected and that any decisions made for Clark Kent felt authentic to the story that Smallville had already told.
Fans can look forward to seeing Welling back in action alongside other familiar faces from the Arrowverse as they come together to battle the Anti-Monitor and save the multiverse. Don’t miss this epic crossover event featuring Smallville’s very own Clark Kent!

DC’s reveals packed plans for a “Summer of Superman” including a new one-shot, a globetrotting anthology, and an eight-year-old Clark Kent

As hinted at last week with the announcement of Dan Slott and Rafael Albuquerque’s new Superman Unlimited, DC is celebrating the Man of Steel with a whole raft of new comics this year. Now the publisher has revealed the full details for what it’s calling the Summer of Superman – an event timed, of course, to tie in with James Gunn’s upcoming movie.
This new slate will encompass issues of the regular Superman and Action Comics titles as well as a new one-shot, a globe-trotting anthology, and a new graphic novel. We have the full details of each project in order, plus lots of art, below, so let’s break it all down…

Action Comics #1085 will bring the year-long Superman Superstars initiative to an end, with the first instalment of a two-part story by G. Willow Wilson and Gavin Guidry.
“Lois Lane sends the Man of Steel to a scientific outpost in the Arctic to investigate a new technology that promises to halt global warming,” reads DC’s synopsis. “But when Superman arrives, he quickly finds out that the outpost has been plagued by a villain who plans to melt humanity’s hopes for survival.” The issue, out on April 9, will feature a main cover by Brad Walker, plus variants by Davide Paratore, Cully Hamner and Danny Earls.

This 48-page oversized one-shot brings together four of the biggest names in superhero comics for one spectacular special issue.
Mark Waid, Joshua Williamson, and Dan Slott have written “a single story in three acts” that will be fully illustrated by Jorge Jiménez and focus on the wedding of Lana Lang to John Henry Irons – AKA Steel. “However, their big day will also be big trouble, as threats from the past, present and future will spawn major new conflicts for the Superman family,” reads DC’s press release.
The Summer of Superman Special #1 is published on April 16 and will come with a slew of different covers to choose from, including a main and variant cover by Jiménez, and additional variant covers from Alexander Lozano, John Giang, Mahmud Asrar, Dan Jurgens, and Chrissie Zullo Uminga.

Anyone who has been following Superman’s monthly adventures will know that his arch-enemy Lex Luthor has been going through a rough patch recently, having lost all of his memories. The time is almost right for Luthor to make his full return, however, and “fight for control of Supercorp and Metropolis” in a 48-page special issue.
Superman #25 is written by Joshua Williamson and illustrated by Dan Mora, Eddy Barrows, and Eber Ferreira. DC says that the issue “celebrates the last two years of Superman, connects to Summer of Superman Special #1, and sets up a brand-new storyline featuring Superman’s greatest enemy.”
Dan Mora provides a gorgeous wraparound main cover for the issues, and there will be a huge range of variants available, including Guillem March, Jeff Dekal, Rafael Grassetti, Dave Johnson, Laura Braga, Fico Ossio, and Dan Hipp. It hits stands on April 23.
Superman: The World
Superman: The World
The third instalment of DC’s The World anthology series – hardcover collections featuring all new stories by comics creators from across the planet – focuses on the Man of Steel.
“Renowned Superman storytellers Dan Jurgens and Lee Weeks join a team of 15 international creators to tell tales that highlight what makes Superman the greatest superhero of all,” reads the blurb. It follows hot on the heels of previous The World books themed around Batman and the Joker, and will be in stores on June 24, arriving on the same day and date in Brazil, Mexico, Germany, Spain, Serbia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Turkey, India, Cameroon, Poland, the Czech and Slovak Republics, and Argentina.
Superman’s Good Guy Gang

Superman Day reprints
DC is also reprinting a raft of titles in new editions to celebrate Superman Day, which the company has been insisting is April 18 (rather than June 12) for some time now.

College Basketball: Kent State at Ohio Prediction, Betting Odds & How To Watch
Ohio will be short-handed when it hosts Kent State in this Friday night contest.
The Bobcats recently lost senior forward AJ Clayton to a leg injury and there is no timetable for his return. Clayton was leading the MAC in scoring for much of the season and is the Bobcats’ leading scorer and rebounder. He averages 15.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.
Not only is Ohio without its best player, but the Bobcats also lost their other starting big man Aidan Hadaway. The junior is coming off leg surgery and his return this season is in jeopardy. He is averaging 10.4 PPG and 5.7 RPG.
That unfortunate news comes after the Bobcats have lost two games in a row. They lost to Akron, 92-80, last Friday and to Buffalo, 94-87, on Tuesday where they fell to 10-8 overall and 4-2 in MAC play.
Kent State (12-6, 3-3) enters this one off a 19-point win over Toledo on Tuesday. The Golden Flashes have had a couple of surprising conference losses to Western Michigan and Ball State.

Kent State at Ohio Prediction
I predict Kent State wins. I also predict this game goes under 145.5 points.
We saw what happened against Eastern Michigan when Hadaway was out and Clayton played limited minutes. As you can imagine, the Bobcats just aren’t the same team and certainly aren’t as dangerous offensively.
I think those injuries will have a significant impact here against the best defense in the league.
Without their top two options in the frontcourt, the Bobcats won’t be losing much size in this matchup because the Golden Flashes are one of the shortest teams in the country. Still, the guys who step into their spots will be dealing with defending one of the best forwards in the league in VonCameron Davis.
Davis leads the Golden Flashes with 15.6 PPG and averages 4.1 RPG and 2.4 APG. He is great around the rim and I think will be tough to stop tonight. Cli’ron Hornbeak should also pose some problems inside, especially on the glass and on the defensive end. He’s averaging 8.4 points and 6.2 boards per game.
The Golden Flashes allow 64.7 PPG on just 41% shooting. Those are both the best numbers in the conference. According to KenPom, they also force a turnover on 20.9% of their opponents’ possessions, which ranks 40th in the country.
There will likely be a few guys playing for the Bobcats tonight who haven’t seen the court much this season. Expect them to be hounded and to commit a few turnovers against this defense.
Ohio will lean on its trio of guards in Jackson Paveletzke, AJ Brown, and Shereef Mitchell. Paveletzke is second on the team in scoring (12.7 PPG) and second in the conference in assists (5.3/game). Brown averages 11.7 points and shoots 40% from the outside while Mitchell averages 10 points, three rebounds, and three assists per game.
These guys will be able to handle their own, but I think it’ll be a tall task for the Bobcats to come away with a win here in their first game without Clayton and against one of the best teams in the league, especially with the Flashes trying to climb their way back up the league standings.
Kent State is 6-1-1 against the spread on the road and the total has gone under in all eight of those games.
College Basketball: Kent State at Ohio Prediction, Betting Odds & How To WatchThe Kent State Golden Flashes will be facing off against the Ohio Bobcats in an exciting college basketball matchup. Both teams have had a strong season so far, making this game a must-watch for fans of the sport.
In terms of betting odds, the Ohio Bobcats are currently favored to win this game with a spread of -5.5 points. However, the Kent State Golden Flashes have been known to pull off upsets in the past, so this game could go either way.
As for a prediction, it’s hard to say who will come out on top in this matchup. Both teams have talented players and have been performing well throughout the season. It could come down to which team is able to execute their game plan more effectively on the court.
If you’re interested in watching this game, it will be broadcasted on ESPN3. So be sure to tune in to catch all the action live.
Overall, this is shaping up to be an exciting college basketball game between two competitive teams. Be sure to tune in and see who comes out on top in this highly anticipated matchup.

Smallville’s Tom Welling Explains Why He Didn’t Reprise Clark Kent Role Before Crisis On Infinite Earths
Smallville is arguably one of the most popular superhero series of all time. However, Tom Welling, who played Clark Kent throughout the show’s 10 season run, was hesitant to reprise the role in other DC Arrowverse properties.
Welling explained his aversion to Clark Kent cameos, before his 2019 Crisis on Infinite Earths appearance, at Fan Expo New Orleans 2025 (via Kelsey Krogman). “I got some calls but they weren’t [about] me acting on these shows,” the actor said. “It was me playing Clark on those shows, and I really felt protective of the fact that Clark wouldn’t exist on those shows.”

Is Superman & Lois a Sequel to Smallville?
Superman & Lois shares a unique relationship with one of the most original interpretations of the Clark Kent story in TV history.
Welling also talked about the moment he agreed to Crisis on Infinite Earths. “Finally, I got a [call] from someone connected to it who said, ‘Listen, please just read it. It’s one scene. Just please read it,’” the actor recalled. “And I read it and I was like, ‘This is good.’ It was just the one scene, and I was like, ‘Man, this is actually a good idea. This is the way to do it.’ And you know, Clark didn’t have his powers and one of my ways into that scene was, I wanted to play Clark as if he grew into Jonathan Kent.
“When I showed up they didn’t have gloves for Clark, and I was like, ‘Can we get some gloves.’ And I ended up borrowing some gloves from one of the grips. It’s just like weird things that get you attached to characters,” Welling added. “I tried to walk a little more like [actor] John Schneider in a way.” The actor also shared how he felt about sharing the screen with a different Lex Luthor. “I think one of the easiest lines I’ve ever said was when I looked at Jon Cryer and said you’re not Lex Luthor,” he said.
Welling Changed The Smallville Finale
Related
Inspired by Superboy comics, Smallville brought Lex Luthor to Clark Kent’s hometown, and future Superman adaptations should make them friends first.
Welling previously revealed that the Smallville series finale included an entire sequence with Clark donning the iconic Superman suit. “[In] one of the final [scenes] Clark opens his shirt and finally leaps off the building. That was written [in] a completely different way,” he explained. “They had written where Clark sees the suit, then cut to him, pulling it on and putting the boots on.” After reading the script, the actor requested a change and the series creators were happy to oblige.
The actor went on to explain how 24 inspired his vision for the finale. “I remember the takeaway from that to me was here’s a guy who’s gonna go out there, is gonna fight the good fight. We can’t go with him, but it allows our imagination to believe he’s still out there,” Welling continued. “I took that and when we were trying to figure it out in the series, I referenced that the idea that this character is gonna go out there, he’s gonna be out there. We can’t go with. And that’s how that all came about.”
All 10 seasons of Smallville are available to stream on Hulu.

Tom Welling, who portrayed Clark Kent in the hit TV series Smallville, recently opened up about why he chose not to reprise his iconic role before Crisis On Infinite Earths. In a recent interview, Welling explained that he wanted to make sure that any return to the role of Clark Kent was done for the right reasons and in a meaningful way. He wanted to ensure that his character’s story was given the proper closure and respect it deserved.
Welling also mentioned that he wanted to focus on his own projects and explore new acting opportunities rather than revisiting the past. However, he did express his gratitude for the opportunity to revisit the character in Crisis On Infinite Earths and was thrilled to be a part of such a monumental crossover event.
Fans of Smallville were thrilled to see Welling reprise his role as Clark Kent in Crisis On Infinite Earths, and his thoughtful approach to returning to the character only further solidifies his status as a beloved and respected actor in the superhero genre.

Men’s Basketball at Kent State Saturday Afternoon to Begin MAC Play
The Ball State men’s basketball team rides a three-game winning streak into 2025 and opens Mid-American Conference play at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Kent State.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Dane Richardson and Jana Ashley on the call, while Mick Tidrow and David Eha handle the radio broadcast on WMUN 1340AM – 92.5FM.
Kent State leads the all-time series between the two programs 50-43 and holds a 33-11 record in home games against the Cardinals. Ball State 76-69 last March 5 at Worthen Arena in the most recent meeting.
Jermahri Hill (25 points, eight rebounds) and Payton Sparks (23 points, 16 rebounds) led the Cardinals to an 89-76 win over Anderson on Tuesday afternoon to enter MAC play with a 6-6 record. Sparks scored his 1,000th career point in the New Year’s Eve contest at Worthen Arena.
Kent State (9-3) most recently beat Heidelberg 84-80 on Dec. 29 to end the 2024 part of the season with most wins in the MAC. The Golden Flashes were picked to finish third in the MAC preseason poll after advancing to the 2024 MAC Tournament title game from the No. 8 seed.
Kent State paces the league and ranks No. 26 nationally in scoring defense, allowing 63.6 points per game so far this season. The Golden Flashes are second in the conference in turnover margin (+3.5), 3-pointer defense (30.9 percent) and field goal percentage defense (40.8).
Senior center Cli’Ron Hornbeak is second in the MAC in both total rebounds (86) and rebounds per game (7.2), while redshirt senior forward VonCameron Davis paces Kent State in scoring at 14.9 points per game.
Up next for Ball State is the MAC home opener at 7 p.m. on Tuesday against Miami (OH).
1,000 FOR SPARKS: Senior center Payton Sparks scored his 1,000th career point late in the second half of the New Year’s Eve win against Anderson on his way to a 23-point, 16-rebound double-double.
The 16 boards matched his career-best, while the 23 points were one shy of tying his career-high, as the big man recorded his first double-double of the year.
ONE-TWO PUNCH: Sparks and junior guard Jermahri Hill combined for 48 points, 24 rebounds and three steals against Anderson.
The performances were Ball State’s first game of the season with multiple 20-point scorers.
BEGINNING THE YEAR AT KENT: The Cardinals play their first game of the calendar year at Kent State just like 2024 when the teams faced each other on Jan. 2, 2024 in Northeast Ohio.
The Golden Flashes are also Ball State’s most recent Mid-American Conference visitor to Worthen Arena, as the Cardinals claimed a 76-69 decision last March in Muncie in the home finale.
DOMINANT DEFENSE: Ball State limited Evansville to 43 points and 29.1 percent shooting from the field on Dec. 21. Those were the lowest tallies the Cardinals had allowed an NCAA Division I opponent to get since March 11, 2019 against Eastern Michigan.
The Cardinals limited the Purple Aces to their fewest points in the 58-game series history since 1935, and the 37-point margin of victory was the second-highest for Ball State ever vs Evansville.
MICKEY MONEY FROM THE CHARITY STRIPE: Mickey Pearson Jr. went 12-for-12 at the free throw line in Ball State’s win at Bellarmine on Dec. 14 including sinking two foul shots with six seconds to play to secure the 86-82 decision.
Pearson’s 12 free throws made were the most by a Ball State player since Taylor Persons also sunk a dozen on Nov. 18, 2018 vs App State. Pearson is the only Cardinal with multiple career games making at least 10 free throws without a miss in the last 10 seasons (10-for-10 vs Central Michigan on Jan. 6, 2024).
GORO-THREE-TO: Junior guard Juanse Gorosito was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week after hitting seven 3-pointers for 21 and adding four assists and three steals on Dec. 14 at Bellarmine.
Gorosito is second in the conference in 3-pointers made (37) and leads the league while ranking No. 11 in NCAA Division I in shooting percentage (47.4) from distance.
MILESTONE WATCH: After Sparks (1,005 points) reached the milestone last Tuesday afternoon, Jeremiah Hernandez (911) and Pearson Jr. (845) are each closing in on scoring 1,000 points in his Division I career.
Ethan Brittain-Watts recently made his 100th career 3-pointer, while Sparks (598 rebounds) is currently No. 18 in Ball State program history for a career.
KEEPING UP WITH KENTUCKY SCHOOLS: The win at Bellarmine moved the Cardinals to 2-0 this year against teams from the Bluegrass State.
The Cardinals defeated Eastern Kentucky 63-61 on Nov. 25 in the first game of the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla.
TOP OF THE HILL: Junior Jermahri Hill was named the Mid-American Conference Co-Player of the Week on Dec. 2 after averaging 21.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in three games at the Gulf Coast Showcase.
Hill had assists on three-point plays to Mickey Pearson Jr. and Payton Sparks in the final minute of the 63-61 win over Eastern Kentucky in the opener on Nov. 25. The guard ranks seventh in the MAC with 15.7 points per game on the year.
I REMEMBER YOU: Ball State has played seven different players this season who were on MAC rosters during the 2023-24 season. SIUE’s Darrion Baker (from Akron) was the seventh. The full list is below.
Darrion Baker (Akron to SIUE)
Legend Geeter (Eastern Michigan to Detroit Mercy)
Markus Harding (Central Michigan to Indiana State)
Orlando Lovejoy (Eastern Michigan to Detroit Mercy)
Cyril Martynov (Eastern Michigan to Eastern Kentucky)
Zarique Nutter (Northern Illinois to Georgia State)
B. Artis White (Western Michigan to Richmond)GETTING TO THE LINE: The Cardinals pace the Mid-American Conference in both free throw attempts per game (27.7) and free throws made per game (19.3) through the season’s first 12 games.
Ball State ranks No. 5 and No. 9 in those categories in NCAA Division I, respectively. The total tallies (332 attempts and 231 makes) outpace the next-closest MAC team (Buffalo) by 80 attempts and 58 makes.
PEARSON POUNDING THE GLASS: Pearson Jr. tied his career-best with 13 rebounds in the season opener at Georgia State before grabbing 11 against Detroit Mercy on Nov. 20.
The forward also notched 13 boards on Nov. 7, 2022 against Earlham at Worthen Arena. Pearson Jr. ranks sixth in the MAC in total rebounds (71) and seventh in rebounds per game (5.9).
HOME STATE HEROES: Brittain-Watts (2019), Zane Doughty, Joey Hart and Jones (2023) were each named Indiana High School All-Stars, while three more Cardinals also had ties to the state before arriving in Muncie.
Ball State has the second-most players from Indiana high schools among Indiana-based Division I teams behind Purdue.
WORLD FLYERS: The 2024-25 Ball State roster consists of student-athletes from three different countries in addition to the United States of America.
Juanse Gorosito (Argentina), Hendriks (Canada) and Jurica Zagorsak (Croatia) are international Cardinals this season. Interestingly, Juanse, Ben and Jurica were born on different continents, so Ball State has student-athletes from North America, South America and Europe on the team.
TRANSFERS FROM ALL OVER: Each of Ball State’s seven student-athletes who have transferred into the program have come from different college basketball conferences.
The list includes Brittain-Watts (Patriot League, Boston), Gorosito (West Coast Conference, Portland), Hart (SEC, Kentucky), Hernandez (Ohio Valley Conference, USI), Pearson Jr. (Big 12, TCU), Sparks (Big Ten, Indiana) and Hill who played junior college ball at South Plains in Levelland, Texas.
