  • Stephen Curry, Steve Kerr have concerns about Jimmy Butler joining the Warriors: Sources

Will the Golden State Warriors trade for Jimmy Butler? The answer will come down to the wishes of Stephen Curry.

I reported on Tuesday morning that the Warriors were back in the mix for Butler now that the Heat have dropped their asking price. Then on Wednesday, The Athletic’s Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson added intriguing details, noting the Warriors’ initial reluctance due to concerns across every level of the organization about price tag and potential “combustion.”

My league sources confirm these hesitations, revealing Curry himself has reservations about Butler’s fit in the Warriors’ locker room — a sentiment shared by head coach Steve Kerr. Their worries stem from Butler’s tumultuous history with previous teams:

In Chicago, Butler clashed with multiple teammates, including Joakim Noah and Rajon Rondo, and publicly slammed his head coach Fred Hoiberg.

In Minnesota, there was the infamous practice incident where he yelled at teammates, coaches and executives before conducting an interview with Rachel Nichols.

In Philadelphia, he refused to shoot 3-pointers because of his issues with Brett Brown’s offensive system.

And now in Miami, he’s feuding with Pat Riley, missing flights and disrespecting his teammates.

It’s no wonder Curry would be unsure about wanting Butler in the same locker room as Draymond Green, who has his own unique brand of team chemistry roulette. Are we really ready for the Draymond-Jimmy Buddy Cop movie? Curry’s probably having nightmares of Butler yelling, “You f***ing need me!” while Green’s busy recording his next podcast rant.

I would not trade for Butler if I were the Warriors. As much as he’d help the team as a versatile defender and a downhill attacker, adding Butler’s I’m-the-captain-now energy to a ship that’s barely staying afloat is a bad idea compared to other routes for the Warriors. Blowing it up would be a more sensible long-term approach, as I wrote in-depth about last week. So would staying patient and waiting until the offseason to find out what other opportunities are available. Who knows? If the Suns implode, maybe Kevin Durant would want to move to the Bay Area.

It’d be one thing if Butler were easily acquirable, but he makes $48 million this season. The Warriors would need to give up Andrew Wiggins and some combination of important players to make any deal work financially, such as Gary Payton II, Kyle Anderson and Jonathan Kuminga. As Green himself said on his podcast, trading for a player making that much money is a challenge.

The Heat have lowered their asking price for Butler because they’re tired of his act, and they’d like to get something in return instead of letting him walk in free agency for nothing. There’s a fear in Miami that the Nets could absorb salaries this offseason to free cap space for a team, such as the Rockets, to outright sign Butler.

But if the Warriors bypass the opportunity to trade for Butler, and if the Suns can’t find a team willing to take on Bradley Beal, then what happens for the Heat? Maybe the Bucks re-enter the sweepstakes. Or maybe the Rockets decide to make a splash now instead of waiting for free agency. But executives around the NBA keep pointing to Memphis.

It’s been widely reported the Grizzlies were informed that Butler doesn’t want to play there. But they still keep popping up as the team that could end up with Butler in return for what Miami desires: short-term salaries and headache relief.

According to sources close to the Golden State Warriors, both Stephen Curry and head coach Steve Kerr have expressed concerns about the potential addition of Jimmy Butler to the team.

While Butler is undoubtedly a talented player, there are worries about how his strong personality and demanding playing style could potentially disrupt the team chemistry that the Warriors have worked hard to build over the years.

Curry and Kerr are known for their emphasis on teamwork and selfless play, and there are concerns that Butler’s more individualistic approach could clash with the team’s culture.

Additionally, there are questions about how Butler would fit into the Warriors’ already star-studded lineup, and whether his presence would disrupt the balance of the team.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, it seems that Curry and Kerr are approaching the possibility of Butler joining the Warriors with caution. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • Steve Kerr inserts rookie Quinten Post into Warriors’ starting lineup

SAN FRANCISCO — Steve Kerr joked that he’s trying to set the record for most different starting lineups in a season.

    He’s not a on a bad pace.

Golden State’s latest wrinkle is inserting two-way center Quinten Post into the starting-five, taking the place of Trayce Jackson-Davis. Post, who has impressed in his first four games in an NBA rotation, gives the Warriors a new look as a floor-spacing center.

The starting-five of Post, Steph Curry, Buddy Hield, Andrew Wiggins and Gary Payton II is the Warriors’ 28th unique starting lineup combination of the season — tied with Philadelphia for the most this year. Memphis set the all-time record for distinct starting units last year with 51.

Post has been shooting the ball with confidence from behind the arc, hoisting up four, 10, five and five 3-point attempts in the past four games. The 24-year-old rookie has developed fast chemistry with Curry, whom he’d never played alongside — not even in training camp — before last week.

Draymond Green and Jonathan Kuminga remain sidelined by injuries, but it’s easy to imagine Post’s skill set unlocking them when they return.

“I think the beauty of a stretch big is that everybody can play with a stretch big,” Kerr said earlier this week. “It opens up the floor. It literally makes everybody better.”

Post is shooting 37.5% from 3 on what’s still a small sample. There are concerns about his defensive ability, particularly in the pick-and-roll and in staying out of foul trouble. Oklahoma City, which plays a five-out style, is bound to target him by drawing him out of the paint on switches.

The Golden State Warriors made a surprising move by inserting rookie Quinten Post into the starting lineup for their upcoming game. Head coach Steve Kerr has shown confidence in the young center, who has impressed in limited minutes off the bench.

Post, a second-round pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, has shown flashes of potential with his size, shooting touch, and defensive instincts. Kerr believes that Post’s skill set will complement the team’s starting lineup and provide a new dynamic on both ends of the court.

Fans are excited to see how Post will perform in his first start and are hopeful that he can make an impact alongside the Warriors’ star players. Kerr’s decision to shake up the lineup shows his willingness to give young players opportunities to prove themselves and contribute to the team’s success.

Stay tuned to see how Post fares in his debut as a starter and how this lineup change will affect the Warriors’ performance in the upcoming games. #Warriors #QuintenPost #SteveKerr #NBAStarters

  • Golden State Warriors post worst home loss in Steve Kerr era

SAN FRANCISCO — As Stephen Curry exited the game for good near the end of the third quarter, with the Boston Celtics up by 32 on their way to a 40-point blowout victory over the Warriors, he probably hadn’t felt further away from Golden State’s 2022 NBA championship than he did on Monday.

After suffering the worst home defeat of the Steve Kerr era with a 125-85 loss at Chase Center, Curry noted how the Celtics are everything the Warriors are not at the moment.

Curry talked about how Boston has the same core from its 2022 NBA Finals team with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown but have even more confidence after winning the Finals last season.

“Yeah, we have an entirely different roster pretty much, obviously,” Curry said of the Warriors as compared to their 2021-22 squad. “Especially without Draymond [Green] out there. But you look [at what] they have, besides [Kristaps] Porzingis, they have pretty much the whole rotation still, and they are the defending champs.

“So, they’re coming in with a level of confidence and swagger about ’em, and it’s the exact opposite of what we have right now. So yeah, obviously great memories, but definitely feels like a long time ago.”

The Warriors hold out hope that they can turn this season around, get into the playoffs and surprise everyone like they did in 2022, when they beat Boston 4-2 in the Finals.

But they are 21-21 and hobbled by injuries to crucial players. Green did not play Monday, and he will be out at least a week with a mild calf strain. Jonathan Kuminga injured his right ankle on Jan. 4 and was ruled out for at least three weeks, though he likely will need longer to return. Brandin Podziemski has been out with an abdomen injury, and Kyle Anderson did not play due to a glute injury.

Since starting the season off 12-3, the Warriors have gone 9-18. They are currently in a nine-game stretch in which eight are at Chase Center.

Curry was asked if the Warriors can use this stretch to stay afloat with the injuries to Green and Kuminga.

“It’s incredibly significant for our season,” Curry said. “You’d hope to be a better home team than you are on the road. … We’ll see how we respond to it and if we can take advantage of this stretch. Tonight was not great; Captain Obvious statement.

“But just the idea that we can keep ourselves afloat until we get some guys back can kind of make or break our season to be honest, to keep it real. … Nobody’s counting game-by-game type thing, but a six- to eight-game stretch can kind of define where we are going forward the rest of the season.”

The Celtics (30-13) hit 20 3-pointers on Monday, with Tatum leading the way with 22 points.

Curry, with his 18 points, was just one of two Warriors to score in double figures.

Kerr is hopeful that Podziemski and Anderson will be able to return later in the week. The Warriors will play at the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday before facing the Chicago Bulls at home on Thursday. The Los Angeles Lakers will visit Golden State on Saturday.

The Warriors will need to put up much more than the 85 points they scored against Boston. It was the lowest output in a home game in which Curry has played under Kerr. The 40-point margin also represented the worst home defeat for Golden State since a 45-point loss to the Dallas Mavericks in 1985.

“Seems like an eternity ago,” Warriors center Kevon Looney said when asked how long ago the 2022 NBA championship feels like. “We have had a lot of iterations of the team since then. Each season brings on a new challenge. That year seems further and further away. But hopefully, we can get back to that feeling of being a champion. But we got a long way to go.”

The Golden State Warriors suffered their worst home loss in the Steve Kerr era last night, falling to the Phoenix Suns by a staggering 32 points. The Warriors, who have been dominant at home in recent years, were completely outplayed by the Suns in every aspect of the game.

The loss comes as a shock to many Warriors fans, who are used to seeing their team dominate on their home court. The defeat also raises questions about the team’s ability to compete at a high level against top teams in the league.

Despite the disappointing result, head coach Steve Kerr remains optimistic about the team’s future. He acknowledged the need for improvement and vowed to address the issues that led to the loss.

Warriors fans can only hope that this defeat serves as a wake-up call for the team and motivates them to bounce back stronger in their next game.

  • Steve Kerr addresses perceived Jayson Tatum snub after Celtics rout

Steve Kerr drew the ire of Celtics fans this past summer after a controversial benching of Jayson Tatum during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The drama surrounding the move has quieted down in recent months as the NBA season continued but resurfaced again on Monday. Cameras caught Celtics stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown appearing to give Kerr the cold shoulder after Boston’s blowout win over Golden State.

The Warriors coach did his best to downplay any apparent tension between him and Tatum however in an appearance Tuesday on 95.7 The Game in San Francisco. Despite the perceived on-court snub, Kerr spoke about his relationships with all Celtics with Team USA ties and how they connected postgame.

“Great, fantastic conversations and interactions with former USA guys, Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, Jaylen Brown I coached him in 2019 at the World Cup,” Kerr said. “It’s always really fun to see guys that you have a relationship with. I got a chance to visit with all those guys including Jayson (Tatum) after the game (Monday) night. It was great to see them and I’m always pulling for guys I have coached.”

Kerr went on to detail his interaction with the Celtics All-Star after Boston handed the Warriors their worst home loss in Kerr’s tenure as coach.

“We texted after the game in Boston a couple of months ago and we talked last night after the game,” Kerr said. “I will tell you that Jayson was an absolute dream to coach. During all that stuff, that so-called controversy, you might notice there wasn’t a single quote from Jayson. It was everybody else talking about it. Jayson’s an amazing guy and an incredible player and he couldn’t have handled it any better when he was there.

“The reality is it’s 2024, these guys are all in the spotlight. There’s so much pressure on them and that whole thing was overblown and also just a modern media type thing. He handled it beautifully, we won a gold medal, everybody’s happy. I don’t even think about it anymore to be honest with you.”

Tatum and the Celtics won’t see Kerr or the Warriors again this season after Monday’s win. The team continues their road trip in Los Angeles on Wednesday night against the Clippers.

In a post-game press conference following the Celtics’ dominant win over the Warriors, Steve Kerr addressed the perceived snub of Jayson Tatum in the NBA All-Star selections. Kerr highlighted Tatum’s exceptional performance in the game, showcasing his talent and impact on the court.

Kerr emphasized Tatum’s versatility and scoring ability, praising his offensive prowess and defensive skills. Despite not being selected as an All-Star this year, Kerr emphasized Tatum’s importance to the Celtics and recognized his potential as a future All-Star.

The coach’s comments shed light on the ongoing debate surrounding Tatum’s exclusion from the All-Star lineup and sparked discussions about the criteria for All-Star selections. Kerr’s acknowledgment of Tatum’s talent and contributions to the Celtics further solidified the young star’s status as one of the league’s rising stars.

Overall, Kerr’s remarks served as a reminder of Tatum’s undeniable talent and potential, fueling the ongoing conversation about his All-Star snub and solidifying his place as a key player in the league.

  • Steve Kerr Details Talk With Jayson Tatum Regarding Olympic Drama

Steve Kerr rarely still ponders the controversy that linked the Golden State Warriors head coach to Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum this past summer.

Kerr’s decision to bench Tatum twice amid USA Basketball’s six-game run to a gold medal finish in the 2024 Paris Olympics garnered global attention. Tatum was fresh off a championship in Boston, a record-large $315 million payday from the Celtics and a third straight All-NBA First Team selection. Still, that wasn’t enough.

When asked the day after Tatum led a 40-point demolition of Kerr’s Warriors on Martin Luther King Day, the 59-year-old shared a chit-chat between the two.

“We texted after the game in Boston a couple of months ago and we talked last night after the game,” Kerr told 95.7 The Game’s “Willard & Dibs” show. The reality is 2024 these guys are all in the spotlight. There’s so much pressure on them and that whole thing was overblown.”

USA Basketball underutilized Tatum, playing the five-time All-Star for 17.7 minutes across four appearances — less than Boston teammates Derrick White and Jrue Holiday, who both logged five appearances. Tatum averaged 5.3 points and 5.3 rebounds and even prompted an unscheduled check-up visit from Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla.

    Story continues below advertisement

At the time, Kerr didn’t provide any elaborate explanation as to why Tatum was on such a short leash, especially when Team USA barely defeated opponents like South Sudan and Serbia.

Tatum, meanwhile, took the humbling experience on the chin and quickly redirected his focus on the Celtics and their first shot at a repeat in over a decade. The 26-year-old dropped a 37-point double-double on the New York Knicks during Boston’s Opening Night victory, moments after Tatum received his ring and Banner 18 was raised.

Although, beating the brakes off Golden State alongside co-star Jaylen Brown, who was denied an invite from Team USA entirely, was a great avenue for revenge too. The Tatum-Brown tandem clocked out at the end of the third quarter and let Boston’s bench finish the job as Kerr watched his team fall to 21-21 with the 125-85 defeat.

Tatum and Brown might’ve had Kerr’s face at the center of their dartboard, but Kerr has moved on from the storyline and is focused on the Warriors.

    Story continues below advertisement

“I don’t even think about it more, to be honest with you,” Kerr added.

Feelings of resentment from Tatum and Brown toward Kerr were on display as soon as the final buzzer sounded and Boston became the third team in the NBA to eclipse 30 regular-season victories this season. While Tatum shared a postgame discussion with Warriors star Stephen Curry, as Brown stood nearby, Kerr approached the crew and received an awkward stare of rejection.

Boston and Golden State split the regular-season series, 1-1, however the C’s sit as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference while the Warriors dropped to 11th in the West, still in search of answers as the season progresses.

In a recent interview, Steve Kerr shared details about a conversation he had with Jayson Tatum regarding the drama surrounding the Tokyo Olympics. Kerr, who is an assistant coach for Team USA, revealed that he had a heart-to-heart discussion with Tatum about his decision to withdraw from the Olympic team due to health and safety concerns.

During the conversation, Kerr expressed his support for Tatum’s decision and emphasized the importance of prioritizing one’s well-being above all else. He also reassured Tatum that there would be no hard feelings or judgment from the team for his choice to opt out of the Olympics.

Kerr went on to explain that Tatum’s decision was understandable given the current circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges that athletes are facing in preparing for the Games. He commended Tatum for being thoughtful and responsible in his decision-making process and praised his maturity and professionalism throughout the situation.

Overall, Kerr’s conversation with Tatum highlighted the importance of open communication and understanding within the team, and served as a reminder of the human side of sports in the midst of a global crisis. The two men parted ways with a mutual respect and appreciation for each other, setting a positive example for how to handle difficult situations with grace and empathy.

  • Steve Kerr Makes Big Starting Lineup Change for Warriors-Kings

After 42 games, the Golden State Warriors sit right at .500 with a 21-21 record but are currently outside of the playoff picture. Two months ago, the Warriors were 12-3 and first place in the West, but have since fallen off a cliff, now sitting in 11th place.

The Warriors head into a huge matchup against a red-hot Sacramento Kings team on Wednesday. The Kings have won 10 of their last 11 games, and have beaten the Warriors in four consecutive meetings.

Unfortunately for the Warriors, they are dealing with a handful of costly injuries, with Draymond Green, Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski, and Kyle Anderson all sidelined. Due to this, head coach Steve Kerr had to make a crucial change to the starting lineup.

The new-look Warriors starting lineup for Wednesday’s matchup is Steph Curry, Buddy Hield, Andrew Wiggins, Gary Payton II, and Kevon Looney. Payton and Looney have each started just five games this season, while Hield has started ten.

This new-look lineup is certainly an interesting experiment from Kerr in a huge divisional matchup, but the Warriors need a spark.

The Warriors have already put forth 24 different starting lineups this season, and this will be the 25th. Kerr has really struggled to find his consistent go-to guys, and their plethora of unfortunate injuries certainly do not help.

The Warriors will need this new-look starting lineup to start the game off right, or else Golden State will dig a hole too deep to recover from.

In a surprising move, Steve Kerr has decided to shake up the Golden State Warriors starting lineup for their upcoming game against the Sacramento Kings. Kerr has opted to insert rookie Jonathan Kuminga into the starting lineup, replacing veteran forward Draymond Green.

This decision comes as a bit of a shock, as Green has been a key player for the Warriors for many years and is known for his defensive prowess and leadership on the court. However, Kerr seems to believe that Kuminga’s youth and athleticism could provide a spark for the team and help them get back on track after a recent slump.

Kuminga, the seventh overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, has shown flashes of potential in limited playing time so far this season. Kerr is hoping that giving him a chance to start will allow him to showcase his skills and make a positive impact on the game.

It will be interesting to see how this lineup change plays out and if it will provide the boost that the Warriors need to secure a much-needed win against the Kings. Fans will be eagerly watching to see how Kuminga performs in his new role and if Kerr’s bold decision pays off in the end.

  • Steve Kerr Explains Relationship With Jayson Tatum, ‘So-Called’ Olympics Controversy

The perceived drama between Steve Kerr and Jayson Tatum resurfaced after the Boston Celtics held the Warriors a 40-point loss Monday. Kerr and Tatum shared a brief awkward moment postgame where Kerr waited for Tatum as he spoke with Steph Curry and eventually walked away without Tatum’s attention.

The relationship between Kerr and Tatum has been in question since the Paris Olympics where Tatum was benched twice during Team USA’s gold medal run. The Kerr-led team claimed the gold medal and and the potential beef with Tatum was mostly forgotten, although there has been renewed interest in the situation when the two have stepped foot on the same floor. Kerr addressed where they stand in a local radio appearance Tuesday.

“We texted after the game in Boston a couple of months ago and we talked last night after the game,” Kerr said of his relationship with Tatum via Wilard & Dibs and 95.7 The Game. “I will tell you that Jayson was an absolute dream to coach. During all that stuff, that so called controversy, you might notice there wasn’t a single quote from Jayson. It was everybody else talking about it.

“Jayson is an amazing guy and an incredible player and he couldn’t have handled it any better when he was there.”

According to Kerr, the drama was all outside noise. That’s not a surprise, as neither seems like the type to proclaim their dismay for anyone. Plus, they won a gold medal together. How bad could it be?

Maybe Tatum’s role wasn’t what he wanted, but situations certainly change on a team full of All-Stars. Kerr has nothing but good things to say, and that the perceived tension was all a farce.

In a recent interview, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr opened up about his relationship with Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum and addressed the controversy surrounding Tatum’s participation in the so-called “Olympics controversy”.

Kerr spoke highly of Tatum, praising his talent and work ethic on and off the court. He revealed that he has a great relationship with the young forward and admires his dedication to improving his game.

When asked about the controversy surrounding Tatum’s decision to play in the Olympics, Kerr expressed support for Tatum and defended his choice to represent his country. He emphasized that Tatum’s commitment to Team USA should be commended, and that he understands the pride and honor that comes with representing one’s country on the international stage.

Kerr’s comments shed light on the importance of loyalty and patriotism in sports, and his support for Tatum’s decision to play in the Olympics despite the backlash from some critics. It is clear that Kerr values his relationship with Tatum and believes in his abilities both on and off the court.

  • Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum give Steve Kerr the cold shoulder after Celtics blowout win over Warriors

BOSTON — The Boston Celtics avenged a home loss to the Warriors by walloping Golden State by 40 points in San Francisco on Monday afternoon. Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum then gave Steve Kerr the cold shoulder after the game, another sign the Celtics stars are still a little frosty toward the Warriors head coach following the Paris Olympics.

Immediately following Boston’s 125-85 win, Tatum and Brown took some time to chat with Warriors superstar Steph Curry on the Chase Center court. Brown waited his turn as Tatum had a lengthy talk with Curry, when Kerr approached the trio to chat with the Celtics’ duo.

Tatum didn’t notice Kerr as he spoke with Curry, but Brown saw the Warriors coach standing there — and he just let him continue to stand there, showing no interest in speaking with Kerr. The two avoided eye contact and stood awkwardly, as Brown waited to talk with Curry and Kerr waited to talk with Tatum.

Eventually, Kerr got sick of waiting and just walked away. Here’s a clip of the non-interaction:

Tatum did give Kerr a hug right after the clip, so he is apparently over his Olympic benching by Kerr over the summer. But Brown is clearly still miffed at being passed over for the Team USA roster by Kerr and his staff.

Perhaps some day Brown will put that behind him, but that day was not Monday.

Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown vs. Steve Kerr

Brown has been at odds with Kerr and Team USA since the summer when he was passed over for a spot on the Olympic roster after Kawhi Leonard bowed out with an injury. Brown was fresh off winning MVP in both the Eastern Conference Finals and the NBA Finals, but Kerr and crew opted to go with his Celtics teammate Derrick White instead. While Brown was happy for White, he accused Team USA of keeping him off the roster because he had criticized Nike in the past

Tatum was on the Team USA roster and won his second gold medal over the summer, but that wasn’t without controversy too. Kerr played Tatum just 17.7 minutes per game and benched him for both games against Serbia, which didn’t sit well with Tatum.

Kerr has said that he didn’t regret that decision, and Tatum said earlier in the season that it wasn’t on his mind when Kerr and the Warriors were at TD Garden in November. The Warriors won that meeting, 118-112.

Tatum, Brown, and the Celtics really got their revenge on the court on Monday, handing the Warriors their worst home loss in 40 years. Tatum dropped 22 points to go with nine rebounds and seven assists, while Brown scored an efficient 17 points (hitting eight of his 14 shots) to snap out of his shooting funk. With the score so crooked, neither Tatum or Brown played the fourth quarter for Boston.

In a stunning display of sportsmanship, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics gave Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr the cold shoulder after the Celtics’ blowout win over the Warriors.

Despite the Warriors putting up a valiant effort, the Celtics dominated the game from start to finish, ultimately winning by a staggering margin. As Kerr approached Brown and Tatum to congratulate them on their victory, the two star players simply turned their backs on him and walked away.

This unexpected snub left Kerr visibly taken aback, as he tried to approach them again only to be met with the same response. The gesture was a clear message from Brown and Tatum that they were not interested in any pleasantries with the opposing team’s coach.

While the reason for their actions remains unclear, it is clear that Brown and Tatum were not in the mood for any niceties after their impressive win. Their cold shoulder towards Kerr serves as a reminder that competition in the NBA can sometimes bring out the fiercest rivalries and emotions between players and coaches.

Regardless of the underlying tensions, one thing is for certain: the Celtics’ victory over the Warriors was a statement win, and Brown and Tatum’s actions only added to the drama of the night.

  • Celtics Awkwardly Cold Shoulder Steve Kerr After Revenge Win

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr must’ve felt as though Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics had forgotten about this past summer’s Paris Olympics.

Well, that seemed far from the case following the end of Boston’s mammoth 125-85 win over Golden State on Martin Luther King Day. Once the final buzzer sounded at Chase Center and both teams greeted one another on their way off the court, Kerr was excluded — and it was awkward.

Tatum and Warriors star Stephen Curry shared a brief 1-on-1 discussion while Jaylen Brown stood in the background and TNT’s postgame broadcast captured Kerr hovering his way into the frame. The 59-year-old slowly attempted to get in on the friendly chit-chat, only to receive the cold shoulder treatment like a school child getting excluded from the lunch table by all the cool kids.

Brown made direct eye contact with Kerr and immediately looked away, giving the former USA Basketball head coach the sign of rejection to walk away. Kerr, quickly catching onto the tell-tale sign, backed off and walked away from the group.

Kerr, the clipboard chief of Team USA’s gold medal run, sparked controversy when he benched Tatum twice in the team’s six total Olympic matchups. USA Basketball also rejected Tatum’s running mate, Brown, after Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard withdrew from competing due to a knee injury, and instead gave the vacant spot to Celtics guard Derrick White. Brown, months prior, expressed his desire to represent Team USA and didn’t get the call, even after being named MVP of the 2024 NBA Finals.

The summer of disrespect for the Tatum-Brown tandem, fresh off a championship, provided an outlet for motivation for the duo and Kerr felt the brunt of their fuel Monday evening. Tatum and Brown combined to score 39 points and dropped Golden State to .500 at 21-21, good for 11th in the Western Conference.

Meanwhile, the C’s improved to 30-13 and became the third team in the NBA to reach the 30-win plateau this season, joining the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The win also provided Boston with a much-needed sigh of relief as the team shot 41.7% from 3-point range — and held the Warriors to 26.4% shooting from three — and ran Golden State off its own floor. Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla yanked Tatum, Brown and Kristaps Porzingis off the floor at the end of the third quarter and unloaded the bench as the Warriors had no life even with 12 minutes left in regulation.

Boston entered the battle losers in four of its last 10 games, a stretch in which the team ranked a modest 18th in 3-point shooting (35.5%).

“You gotta love it, just because it’s hard to win in this league. You can’t take it for granted,” Brown told reporters, per CLNS Media. “I think we’ve had to fight and it hasn’t been as easy as we would’ve liked and I think that’s good for us. It’s not supposed to be and it just shows you how hard it is to win night to night. You can’t take winning for granted. You can’t skip steps and details, and us losing has been reminders of that.”

The four-game road trip continues for the Celtics who will next face the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night at 10:30 p.m. ET.

The Boston Celtics came out on top with a revenge win against the Golden State Warriors, but it was what happened after the game that had everyone talking.

As the final buzzer sounded, the Celtics players celebrated their victory on the court, while head coach Steve Kerr made his way over to the opposing team’s bench to offer his congratulations. However, what happened next caught everyone off guard.

Instead of reciprocating the gesture, the Celtics players gave Kerr an awkwardly cold shoulder, ignoring his extended hand and turning away from him. The tension in the air was palpable as Kerr stood there, unsure of how to react to the snub.

It was clear that the Celtics had not forgotten about the previous matchup between the two teams, where Kerr had made some controversial comments that had fired up the Boston squad. And now, with their revenge win secured, they were not about to let bygones be bygones.

The awkward moment quickly went viral on social media, with fans and analysts alike weighing in on the perceived disrespect shown by the Celtics towards Kerr. Some called it unsportsmanlike, while others praised the team for standing their ground and not backing down.

Whatever the case may be, one thing is for sure: the rivalry between the Celtics and Warriors just got a whole lot more heated. And who knows what will happen the next time these two teams meet on the court. Stay tuned for more drama and excitement as this rivalry continues to unfold.

  • Dunleavy, Kerr want to take ‘weeks’ to evaluate Warriors roster

Dunleavy, Kerr want to take ‘weeks’ to evaluate Warriors roster

SAN FRANCISCO — Both general manager Mike Dunleavy and head coach Steve Kerr appear to be in lockstep in their desire to see what this current Warriors group can do in January before focusing on potential big splashes.

During the Warriors’ most recent game against the Philadelphia 76ers, TNT reporter Jared Greenberg reported on the broadcast that Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy wants to spend the next couple weeks evaluating the team before making “reactionary decisions.”

On the same night, Jimmy Butler requested a trade out of Miami. The Heat suspended him seven games for conduct detrimental to the team and are open to hearing trade offers.

The Butler market, then, could materialize quickly. As in, during the time Dunleavy wants to be taking stock of his team rather than making trade proposals.

Asked about the report starting Dunleavy’s wait-and-see approach, head coach Steve Kerr said he has talked to the general manager about the topic.

“I think that makes perfect sense,” Kerr said.

After beating Philadelphia, the Warriors improved to 17-16. They started the season 12-3, riding hot shooting and tenacious defense before De’Anthony Melton tore his ACL. During the Warriors’ 3-12 slide, they flipped Melton for Dennis Schroder.

That may be the only transaction the team makes for the time being.

“We’ve been up and down this year, but we like the group,” Kerr said. “We like the people we have. We really want to see how we play over the next month. And then just, you know, keep our options open.”

Warriors power brokers have long stated the desire to maximize Steph Curry’s championship window. The clearest way to do that is by getting him immediate help in the shape of a star sidekick before the Feb. 6 trade deadline.

Although Jonathan Kuminga has blossomed over the past two weeks into a nightly force, he’s still only 22 and won’t be in his prime for several more years.

“Obviously, we’re a game above .500, so we’re not in a position to say, ‘Hey, we’re good enough, let’s stand firm,’ ” Kerr said. “We have to assess all the options. Players know that. They understand how this league works. For me, it’s let’s see what we can do these next few weeks. Hopefully, we settle into this rotation, start shooting the ball better. I think with Dennis (Schroder) in the mix now, we have a chance to really be a great defensive team again like we were earlier in the year.

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr and general manager Bob Myers have announced their plans to take ‘weeks’ to evaluate the team’s roster following their disappointing season.

With the Warriors missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year, Kerr and Myers are looking to make strategic decisions on the future of the team. This evaluation period will include assessing player performance, contracts, and potential trades or signings.

Kerr stated, “We’re going to take our time to really look at what we have and what we need moving forward. It’s important for us to make the right decisions for the team’s success.”

The Warriors have faced numerous challenges this season, including injuries to key players like Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, as well as the departure of Kevin Durant in free agency. Despite these setbacks, Kerr and Myers remain optimistic about the team’s potential.

As they embark on this evaluation process, Warriors fans can expect a thorough and thoughtful approach to building a competitive roster for the upcoming season. Stay tuned for updates on the team’s progress and potential moves in the coming weeks.
