(NewsNation) — Hoda Kotb’s departure has left a huge hole in the third hour of “Today,” but her former co-host Jenna Bush has reportedly found a replacement.

While chatting with Tina Fey on stage at the Playground Partners Winter Luncheon at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Monday, Bush told Fey: “Hoda left and my heart is broken but I’m getting over it because Scarlett Johansson and I have matching earrings so — sorry, Hoda, I’ve moved on with one of the world’s most beautiful women!”

The crowd laughed, but speculation is rising that Johansson, who clearly loved her time co-hosting with Bush and whose husband, Colin Jost, works at “SNL” in the building, would be a perfect full-time replacement.

For the next month, Bush is still rotating people in and out of the chair. Up next: Kelsea Ballerini, Kimberly Schlapman, Ciara and Wynonna Judd … but don’t be surprised if, in a month or two, Johansson takes the full-time slot.

  • Craig Melvin makes on-air blunder involving former Today co-star Hoda Kotb as he gets used to big change at work

Craig Melvin has had quite an eventful couple of weeks, which has seen him step up as the main co-anchor alongside Savannah Guthrie, following Hoda Kotb‘s departure on January 10.

And while Craig is very much settled into his new gig, Hoda is never far from his thoughts – so much so, that he ended up making a bit of a blunder on Friday’s show!

The popular TV anchor was introducing the Fourth Hour at the end of the Third Hour, telling viewers: “Stay tuned for Today with Hoda & Jenna…” before correcting himself.

“Oops, force of habit, Jenna and Friends,” he added.

Jenna Bush Hager has been co-hosting the last segment of Today with new co-anchors each week.

Craig Melvin made a slip-up when introducing Jenna Bush Hager’s segment of Today

These have included some very famous faces, including Eva Longoria and Scarlett Johanason. It was announced shortly after Hoda made the decision to leave Today that Jenna wouldn’t be getting a permanent new co-host, but instead a rotating guest list of famous faces.

Jenna said of Hoda leaving soon after the news broke: “I am so proud of her,” she said. “Although, I will say I walk around even here, and people are like, ‘Congratulations, Hoda!’ And I feel like the girl that just got dumped.

“And people are like, ‘You made the best choice, Hoda!’ And I’m like, ‘Did she? Did she make the best choice?’”

She also joked that she was going to start showing up at her door like a stalker. “I will be there on your doorstep, and we are your friends forever,” she added.

Hoda left the Today Show on January 10

And while Hoda is very much enjoying her new quieter pace of life since leaving her early mornings behind, she has made sure to still regularly see her old co-stars.

Just last week, she was reunited with Savannah and Jenna, along with Third Hour’s Dylan Dreyer Weekend Today co-host Willie Geist, while attending Willie’s first ever Sunday Sitdown Live in Manhattan.

Willie hosts popular podcast Sunday Sitdown and his co-stars were all there to support him during his first live show, held at City Winery.

After photos were posted online of Hoda and her co-stars together again, many fans were quick to react to Hoda’s return to the Today Show family. “So nice to see Hoda with them!” one wrote, while another commented: “Miss Hoda!” A third added: “Everyone loves a Hoda moment!”

Hoda had taken the opportunity to enjoy lunch with Savannah and Jenna while in the city too, and posted a selfie of the three of them together while sitting down at a restaurant.

“Love Wednesdays!! @savannahguthrie @jennabhager. Also remember when you had that big goodbye party and now I am like…… HIIIIIIIIIIII!” she wrote in the caption.

Craig Melvin, the beloved Today show anchor, found himself in a bit of hot water recently after making a hilarious on-air blunder involving his former co-star Hoda Kotb.

During a live segment, Melvin accidentally referred to Kotb as his co-host, even though she left the show months ago to pursue other opportunities. The slip-up left both Melvin and Kotb in stitches, as they reminisced about their time together on the show.

Melvin later took to social media to apologize for the mistake, writing, “Oops! Old habits die hard. Sorry, @hodakotb, I miss having you by my side every morning! #workfamily.”

Fans of the show were quick to forgive Melvin, with many praising his chemistry with Kotb and expressing their excitement for the future of the show.

As Melvin gets used to the big changes at work, it’s clear that his sense of humor and charm will continue to shine through, making him a fan favorite for years to come.

Hoda Kotb is leaving the Today show in just a few days, and fans might be wondering why she’s departing after all these years.

Well, is there more to the story than we originally were told!?

A new report has emerged suggesting an alternate reason why the 60-year-old morning show host announced she’s stepping away from the famed NBC show.

Keep reading to find out more…

According to a report from Puck News, they shared that NBC executives asked her to take a pay cut. Hoda reportedly makes upwards of $20 million per year. This report has not been verified by NBC.

“NBC executives loved Hoda and knew her value to the brand, but also made clear to her agents that such stratospheric contracts were no longer justifiable given the industry’s inexorable decline, due in part to the steep ratings decline affecting Today and competitors like Good Morning America,” Puck said.

Hoda‘s last day will fall on January 10, 2025. Find out who is replacing her.

Hoda Kotb is bracing herself for a new start in just a few weeks, as the much-loved Today Show anchor will be leaving the NBC daytime show for good on January 10.

The TV favorite has enjoyed some downtime with her family over the holidays, and made sure to send a special message to her co-star and friend, Savannah Guthrie, who celebrated her birthday just two days after Christmas.

Hoda posted a selfie of the pair together which had been taken at her home over the summer, and wrote alongside it: “Happy bday to the finest. I love you @savannahguthrie.”

It’s been an emotional time for the long-running TV anchors, who have been co-hosting together since 2017 after Hoda took over from Matt Lauer after he was fired from the show.

Just days before Savannahs’ birthday, she made Hoda well up as she opened her thoughtful Secret Santa gift on the show.

Savannah had gifted Hoda with a very personal present, choosing to have the phrase “May you find a light to guide you home,” engraved on a placemat.

She explained through tears that it was from a song that Savannah had shown her whenever she was going through something in her life.

What’s more, Savannah also got Hoda some wishing candles. “Oh my god, it’s too much!” Hoda exclaimed.

The present was even more personal than viewers realized too, as right at the end, Hoda said: “You know what I love the most? That’s your handwriting,” as she thanked her friend.

Hoda and Savannah are incredibly close

Savannah and Hoda are incredibly close both on and off air, and have been there for each other during both the good and the bad times. Hoda was part of the dedications section in Savannah’s latest book, Mostly What God Does, which was released earlier this year.

Savannah wrote: “And if you ever find yourself attempting something hard and scary, I hope you have someone as irresistibly enthusiastic as Hoda Kotb – and her two giant pom poms – cheering you to the finish line.”

Both Savannah and Hoda are working moms and understand only too well the balance – and at times struggle – of juggling family life while fronting a morning news show.

Hoda previously opened up about working with Savannah during a chat with Good Housekeeping magazine.

She said: “I have some nights where I really messed up and I know I did. And I come in the next morning [thinking], I feel terrible for what I did. What was I thinking? Why did I think that was going to work? They went to bed crying. Like, I don’t want that to be me. But then I talk to Savannah. She’ll say, ‘That was my Wednesday,’ it makes you feel less alone.”

In a heartfelt post on social media, Hoda Kotb shared a personal message to her co-star Savannah Guthrie ahead of a sad change at the Today Show. Kotb expressed her love and gratitude for Guthrie, who will be leaving the show to pursue other opportunities.

“I am so incredibly grateful for the time we’ve spent together on the Today Show,” Kotb wrote. “Savannah, you are not just my co-star, you are my friend and my sister. I will miss our daily laughs and heartfelt conversations. Thank you for always being there for me, both on and off screen.”

Kotb went on to wish Guthrie all the best in her future endeavors, saying, “I know you will shine wherever you go, and I can’t wait to see all the amazing things you will accomplish. You will always have a special place in my heart.”

Fans of the Today Show were quick to comment on Kotb’s post, expressing their sadness at the news of Guthrie’s departure but also their excitement for what the future holds for both women. The bond between Kotb and Guthrie has always been a special one, and viewers will surely miss seeing them together on their screens every morning.

As the Today Show prepares for this sad change, one thing is certain: Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie’s friendship will always remain strong, no matter where their paths may lead.

Hoda Kotb, Jenna Bush Hager, Al Roker Celebrate Savannah Guthrie’s Birthday

Hoda Kotb is sending a lot of love Savannah Guthrie’s way.

On Dec. 27, Hoda celebrated Savannah’s 53rd birthday by sharing a beautiful selfie of them hanging out at her new suburban home. In the pic, both of them sported fresh faces as they smiled for the camera wearing little makeup. The pic appeared to be taken in Hoda’s backyard.

“Happy bday to the finest. I love you @savannahguthrie,” Hoda penned the caption.

In the comments, fans also wished Savannah a happy birthday and said they admire her and Hoda’s friendship.

“Of course Savannah is a Capricorn! Such a provider and giver and hard worker. Happy birthday Savannah!!” one person said.

“It takes one to know one! You rock Hoda! Happy Birthday Savannah!,” another added.

Hoda first shared this photo of her and Savannah in September when she hosted the TODAY co-anchor and her family at her new house outside the city. However, Hoda explained that Savannah and her brood only stayed for 30 minutes.

“I have to say, Savannah understands, and she was like, ‘We’re coming and going,’” Hoda told her co-host Jenna Bush Hager on TODAY. “They came in, they ate some cupcakes, they walked around, and the kids were on the swings for 10 minutes.”

Savannah is a proud mom of two kids, Vale, 10, and Charley, 8, whom she shares with her husband, Michael Feldman. As for Hoda, she co-parents her daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 5, with her ex Joel Schiffman.

Jenna also wished her close friend a happy birthday on Instagram.

“Happiest Birthday to my dearest girl, soul-sister, sister wife, expert listener and wise wisdom-seeker @savannahguthrie,” Jenna captioned her post, which featured photos of her and Savannah on the TODAY plaza, posing for selfies and their kids holding up cardboard cutouts of their faces on sticks.

“What a wild and wonderful like you came into my life! Love you!” she added.

TODAY weatherman Al Roker marked Savannah’s big day with a reel of candid pics of the two together on Instagram, set to Lenny Kravitz’s “Happy Birthday.”

“The happiest of birthdays to my pal, Savvie G, @savannahguthrie who deserves all the birthday wishes her family and friends are sending her way! Love you.” he captioned his post.

So far, Savannah appears to be enjoying the holidays with her family and friends. For Christmas, she wore matching striped pajamas with Mike and their kids and said they felt “very merry” during the holiday.

Earlier in December, Savannah announced that she and her family got a dog when she revealed her 2024 holiday card. The family of four named their new pooch Fetch.

“Mike, Savannah, Vale and Charley are delighted to announce that this year, we made Fetch happen. Merriest everything to all and blessings for 2025!” the card read.

Today, we are celebrating the birthday of our beloved colleague and friend, Savannah Guthrie!

Hoda Kotb, Jenna Bush Hager, and Al Roker came together to throw a surprise birthday party for Savannah, filled with laughter, love, and lots of cake!

Savannah has been a shining light at the Today Show, always bringing her warmth, intelligence, and humor to the show. We are so grateful to have her as a part of our team and wanted to make sure her birthday was a special one.

Savannah gifted Hoda a set of wishing candles and a lucite square boasting the quote “May you find a light to guide you home,” the inspirational missive—sampled from Josh Garrels’ “May You Find a Light”—taking on extra meaning as Hoda sets her course for the next chapter of her life.

“It’s a beautiful song that Savannah gave to me every time I was going through something new,” Hoda shared. “And you got candles! Oh, my God. It’s too much.”

Knowing that her friend will still be sticking to a routine (albeit one that doesn’t have to start with a 3 a.m. wakeup call), Savannah noted, “I thought you could put it on your desk in the morning when you’re reading your stuff.”

    More from E! Online

And there was one more personal touch that had Hoda all choked up.

“You know what I love about this the most?” she told Savannah as the camera zoomed in on her new keepsake. “That’s your handwriting…I love you.”

Added Savannah, “Cutie, I love you.”

    Cue the hugs all around.

But this likely won’t be the last of the waterworks: Hoda’s final episode of Today is slated for Jan. 10.

Announcing Sept. 26 that she’d be leaving the NBC morning show, the mother of daughters Haley Joy, 7, and Hope Catherine, 5—who she shares with ex Joel Schiffman—said it was time to “turn the page at 60, and to try something new.”

She continued, “Obviously I had my kiddos late in life, and I was thinking that they deserve a bigger piece of my time pie that I have. I feel like we only have a finite amount of time. And so, with all that being said, this is the hardest thing in the world.”

Hoda—who, incidentally, gifted her incoming replacement Craig Melvin a cozy Mets blanket— joined Savannah as Today coanchor in 2018 and continued to cohost the fourth hour of Today with Jenna Bush Hager, who succeeded Kathie Lee Gifford in 2019.

“I remembered standing outside looking at these beautiful bunch of people with these gorgeous signs,” Hoda explained, “and I thought, ‘This is what the top of the wave feels like for me.’ And I thought it can’t get better, and I decided that this is the right time for me to kind of move on.”

But even though she won’t be required to be in hair and makeup before dawn, that doesn’t mean the Making Space With Hoda Kotb podcast host is going to be sleeping in all of a sudden.

“I’ve found out, in my town, there’s a 5:30 Soul Cycle class which I’m going to start,” Hoda told E! News in October of her grand plans for post-Today life. “Then I’m going to go back and feed my kids breakfast and I am going to make a coffee-to-go in my Yeti.”

And then, she continued, “I’m going to walk my kids down the beautiful streets to their school and I’m going to kiss them goodbye.”

She’ll be “working for a few hours” and then it’s onto leisurely lunches with friends she hasn’t had time to sit down with “in forever,” after which she’ll be picking up her girls, taking them wherever they need to go and making dinner.

“I’ve been thinking about this day,” Hoda said. “Because of me, I need a mini-plan, because I’ve had such structure for so many years. I’m a structure person. So I want to have my own little structure that is full of freedom and the ability to take walks and do things. I’m so excited for it.”

Kotb got choked up as she explained the sentimental value of the gift, which came from cohost Savannah Guthrie. “It”s a beautiful song that Savannah gave to me every time I was going through something new,” she explained as Garrels’ tune played over the speakers. “Oh my God, it’s too much. Oh my God, the song.”

Guthrie responded, “I thought you could put it on your desk in the morning when you’re reading your stuff.”

Earlier in the segment, Guthrie received her own thoughtful gift from Craig Melvin: a dog sweater embroidered with the name of her new dog, Fetch. “You made Fetch happen!” she joked, referencing the oft-quoted phrase from Mean Girls. “Merry Christmas Fetch!” Melvin responded.

Later, Melvin received a New York Mets blanket with its own sentimental meaning from Kotb. . “I will treasure this forever,” he said, laughing upon opening the gift.

Kotb detailed why the Mets have a strong personal association for her and Melvin, who will replace her as one of Today‘s primary cohosts after she departs the show next month. “When Craig got this job, before anyone knew, Savannah, Craig and I knew,” she explained. “I said, ‘Since no one can know, Craig, the code I’m gonna give to you, is every time I think about it, is I’m gonna say, “Let’s go Mets.”‘ And so every time I looked at Craig and I said, ‘Let’s go Mets,’ he knew that I was cheering him on for this new job.”

Guthrie, however, wasn’t clued into the secret messaging. “You know what’s really funny? Hoda, you didn’t tell me that, and I was like, ‘Hoda is really into the Mets!’” she said.

At the end of the segment, Carson Daly revealed his gift to Al Roker, who was absent from the episode as he spent time with his family. The present was a “legacy journal” that he could eventually give to his grandchildren: “He could journal a little bit, and it would be a book, ultimately, that would be passed down,” Daly explained.

“This is like a Michael Phelps throw-over,” Daly exclaimed. “Uncle Al, I love it, thank you.”

Kotb announced her exit from “Today” after 26 years in September. Her final show is Friday, Jan. 10.

She shared the news in-person with her co-anchors, including Guthrie.

“I have spent 26 years at NBC,” she said. “I just turned 60, and it was such a monumental moment for me, because I started thinking about that decade. I realized that it was time for me to turn the page at 60 and to try something new.”

“I decided that this is the right time to move on,” Kotb shared, adding that she wants to spend more time with her daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 5.

Last month, it was announced that Craig Melvin will replace Kotb and co-anchor the first two hours of “Today” alongside Guthrie.

Kotb is also the co-host of the 10 a.m. show “Today with Hoda and Jenna” alongside Jenna Bush Hager, who will be joined by rotating guest co-hosts following Kotb’s exit until her permanent co-host is announced.

In October, Kotb admitted on her show with Bush Hager, 43, that her decision to leave “Today” is “terrifying.”

“When those twinges come up, like, ‘Should you do it? Is it a mistake?’ … I remind myself that there’s still part of me that’s living right here,” she said.

“And that’s normal. Like, let it be. So yeah, it’s scary. Yeah, it’s terrifying — it’s all those things … but it’s also exactly right,” Kotb added.

Hoda Kotb was left in tears on the ‘Today’ show set after receiving an emotional Christmas gift from her co-host, Savannah Guthrie. The heartwarming moment unfolded on live television, as Guthrie presented Kotb with a personalized photo album filled with memories of their time together on the show.

As Kotb flipped through the pages, she couldn’t contain her emotions and tears welled up in her eyes. The thoughtful gift served as a reminder of the special bond shared between the two co-hosts and the many moments they have shared both on and off camera.

The touching exchange between Kotb and Guthrie is a true testament to the genuine friendship and camaraderie that exists among the ‘Today’ show hosts. It’s moments like these that remind us of the importance of showing appreciation and love to those who mean the most to us, especially during the holiday season.

As the segment came to an end, Kotb embraced Guthrie in a heartfelt hug, expressing her gratitude for the thoughtful gift and the unwavering support of her co-host. The emotional moment served as a reminder of the power of friendship and the joy that comes from sharing special memories with those we hold dear.
