  • Mohammed Shami in, Nitish Kumar Reddy out; cloud over Abhishek Sharma: India’s likely XI vs England for 2nd T20I

Team India, riding high on momentum after a convincing seven-wicket victory in the opening match, will look to double their advantage against England in the second game of the five-match series on Saturday in Chennai. Despite lingering fitness concerns surrounding Mohammed Shami, the hosts appear well-equipped to maintain their dominance.

India’s Mohammed Shami attends a practice session ahead of their second Twenty20 cricket match against England(AP)

Shami, who was expected to feature in the first game, was sidelined to allow the management to assess his readiness further. His potential inclusion in this match will depend on a last-minute fitness evaluation. In his absence, the Indian bowling attack excelled in Kolkata, with Arshdeep Singh dismantling England with the new ball and Varun Chakaravarthy delivering in the middle overs.

The Chepauk pitch is expected to favor spinners, much like it has in the past. India’s spin trio of Varun Chakaravarthy, Axar Patel, and Ravi Bishnoi will be key in exploiting the conditions. The home side boasts of quality and variety in a line-up consisting Varun, vice-captain Axar Patel, and Ravi Bishnoi, making them well-prepared for the challenge.

England’s spinners, Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone, will need to step up significantly after struggling in Kolkata. With Chepauk’s tricky surface in play, spinners on both sides are expected to have a major say in the outcome.

India’s opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson has been a revelation, providing consistent starts since forming their partnership last year. In the first T20I, Abhishek dominated England with a blistering knock, striking at over 230. However, there are concerns over Abhishek’s fitness after it was reported that the left-hander has twisted his ankle during India’s training session.

If Abhishek is unavailable for selection, there could be a possibility of captain Suryakumar Yadav promoting himself as an opener, since there is no designated opener in the side. Samson, meanwhile, has three centuries in his last six innings, cementing their status as India’s first-choice openers.

They also offer that rare right-hand-left-hand combination at the top, a dynamic that keeps opposition bowlers on their toes.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav will look to regain form, having struggled with just two fifties in his last 11 innings since the T20 World Cup final. Although his performances haven’t hurt India’s winning streak, he will be eager to make a significant impact and lead from the front in Chennai.

If Shami is declared fit, he could replace Nitish Kumar Reddy in the XI. England, on the other hand, might bolster their spin department by including young leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed and have already added Brydon Carse and Jamie Smith to their squad.

With both teams adjusting to the conditions, a thrilling contest awaits at Chepauk.

    India’s likely XI

Openers: Abhishek Sharma/Suryakumar Yadav (if Abhishek is unfit), Sanju Samson

Middle-order: Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh

    All-rounders: Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel

Bowlers: Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Shami, Varun Chakaravarthy

(If Shami remains unfit, he could place Nitish Kumar Reddy)

After a thrilling victory in the first T20I against England, India will be looking to continue their winning momentum in the second match of the series. However, there are a few changes expected in the playing XI for the upcoming game.

One of the major changes is the inclusion of Mohammed Shami in place of Nitish Kumar Reddy. Shami, who was rested for the first match, is likely to make a comeback to the team for the second T20I. His experience and pace will add a new dimension to India’s bowling attack.

On the other hand, there is a cloud over Abhishek Sharma’s inclusion in the playing XI. The young all-rounder had a forgettable outing in the first match and might make way for another player in the team.

Here’s India’s likely XI for the 2nd T20I against England:

    1. Rohit Sharma
    2. KL Rahul
    3. Virat Kohli (c)
    4. Suryakumar Yadav
    5. Rishabh Pant (wk)
    6. Hardik Pandya
    7. Washington Sundar
    8. Shardul Thakur
    9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar
    10. Yuzvendra Chahal
    11. Mohammed Shami

With a strong batting line-up and a potent bowling attack, India will be hoping to put up another dominant performance against England in the second T20I. Stay tuned for an exciting clash between the two cricketing giants.

  • Black Warrant: Real-life Sunil Kumar Gupta says Charles Sobhraj could’ve taken advantage of him if he was a woman, describes him as ‘beautiful’ | Web-series News

Black Warrant, the new Netflix series that follows rookie jailer Sunil Kumar Gupta’s trials and tribulations inside Delhi’s Tihar Jail, presents serial killer Charles Sobhraj as an enigmatic charmer. And if the real-life Sunil is to be believed, Sobhraj was quite the lady-killer. In fact, Sunil believed that he, too, would have danced to Sobhraj’s tunes if he was a woman. In the show, Sunil is played by Zahan Kapoor and Sobhraj is played by Sidhant Gupta.

In an earlier chat with The Lallantop, Sunil Kumar Gupta, who also co-authored the book Black Warrant with journalist Sunetra Choudhury, recalled his experiences with Sobhraj and said that the serial killer called him after he was released from prison in 2022. Sobhraj read his book and assured Sunil that he would help him promote it. Recalling the early 1980s, he said that the serial killer’s word had more value than that of an IG (Inspector General).

When asked why, Sunil explained, “He was known as the ‘lady killer’ and sometimes, I wondered that if I was a lady, he could’ve taken advantage of me. The way he spoke, there was a charm to it. He had a beautiful face, sharp eyes.” He said that at this time, there were two murder and rape cases against Sobhraj. He proceeded to talk about his modus operandi. Sunil said that Sobhraj operated out of Goa and would start by befriending female foreigners. “He could charm any woman, age no bar,” he said. After developing a friendship with them, he would call them for dinner, drug them, rape them and then run away with all their belongings. “He was a brutal man,” he recalled.

ALSO READ | Black Warrant is a genre-defying coming-of-age tale inside Tihar Jail where endurance triumphs over defiance

Sunil then spoke about Sobhraj’s female fandom during his time in Tihar, and said that the day he would get any female visitors, he would make an effort in getting ready. “He had lots of shoes, which was allowed then,” he said. Sobhraj would smell like he bathed in perfume, and Sunil could smell it from quite a distance. Sunil said that because of his designation at the time, most of these meetings would happen in his room. He said women from different walks of life would come in to interview him and Sobhraj made an effort every single time.

After being released from prison in Nepal in 2022, Sobhraj was deported to France. Black Warrant, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, is co-produced by Applause Entertainment, Andolan Production, and Confluence Media.

This revelation has shed light on the manipulative tactics used by Sobhraj to lure his victims, and highlights the importance of being vigilant and aware of potential dangers.

Search Technologies and AI: Transforming Information Retrieval

In today’s digital age, the amount of information available at our fingertips is overwhelming. Whether we are searching for a specific piece of information or trying to sift through a sea of data, the task of retrieving relevant information can be daunting. However, thanks to advancements in search technologies and artificial intelligence (AI), the way we retrieve information is rapidly evolving.

One of the key areas where AI is making a significant impact is in improving the accuracy and relevance of search results. Traditional search engines rely on keyword matching algorithms to retrieve information, which can often lead to irrelevant or outdated results. AI-powered search technologies, on the other hand, leverage machine learning algorithms to understand the context and intent behind a search query, resulting in more accurate and personalized results.

Furthermore, AI is also being used to enhance the user experience by providing intelligent recommendations and suggestions based on a user’s search history and preferences. This not only saves time for the user but also helps in discovering new and relevant information that may have otherwise gone unnoticed.

In addition to improving search accuracy and relevance, AI is also being used to automate the process of information retrieval. Chatbots and virtual assistants powered by AI can quickly retrieve and present information in a conversational manner, making it easier for users to access the information they need without having to navigate through multiple sources.

Overall, the combination of search technologies and AI is revolutionizing the way we retrieve information, making the process faster, more accurate, and more personalized. As these technologies continue to evolve, we can expect to see even more advancements in information retrieval that will further enhance our ability to access and utilize the vast amount of information available to us.

  • Nitish Kumar Reddy’s father touches Sunil Gavaskar’s feet at MCG after son’s hundred; here’s what happens next

Nitish Kumar Reddy’s father touches Sunil Gavaskar’s feet at MCG after son’s hundred; here’s what happens next

Nitish Kumar Reddy’s father, Mutyala Reddy, touched legendary Sunil Gavaskar’s feet in an emotional meeting on the sidelines of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) after his son scored a maiden Test ton against Australia on Saturday in the ongoing fourth Test. Along with Mutyala, was his Nitish mother, sister and brother.

In the video that went viral, Mutyala was seen going down on both knees and touched Gavaskar‘s feet before the duo hugged each other. The former India captain also greeted the other members of the Reddy family with folded hands and said “Bless you.”

“You know about the big sacrifices he made (in Nitish’s journey) and because of you I have tears in my eyes. India has found a gem in cricket because of you,” Gavaskar said further in a voice subdued by emotions.

Nitish’s mother, who was emotional too, told Gavaskar that she was still not able to believe that her son was playing at such a big venue and produced such a ‘big innings’.

Starting the day 4 at an overnight score of 105 not out, the 21-year-old Reddy could add just nine runs on Sunday and played a huge role in India cutting the deficit to 105 runs in reply to Australia’s 474. India were all out for 369.

Having scored a string of scores around forty in the first three Tests, Nitish came to bat on Day 3 after the fall of Rishabh Pant with India reeling at 191/6. He lost Ravindra Jadeja coon after before the Andhra Pradesh batter was joined by Washington Sundar as the duo added 127 runs for the eighth wicket to bail India out of the blushes.

Reddy’s hundred bring tears on Shastri’s eyes

Earlier on Saturday, former Indian coach Ravi Shastri too got emotional when Reddy reached his hundred. “More importantly, the way he batted, showcasing his talent and discipline, which is why you and Irfan were speaking (while commentating),” Shastri told Star Sports.

“I was tongue-tied and I had tears in my eyes. I don’t get tears (of joy) in my eyes that easily. I enjoyed watching (Reddy’s innings) yesterday,” Shastri added.

The cricket world was left in awe as Nitish Kumar Reddy’s father touched the feet of legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) after his son’s spectacular hundred. The heartwarming gesture was a moment of pure emotion and respect, showcasing the deep admiration and reverence for the game and its icons.

As the news spread like wildfire across social media platforms, fans and fellow cricketers alike praised the humble act of Nitish Kumar Reddy’s father, highlighting the values of humility and gratitude in the world of sports. • Nitish Kumar Reddy blossoms to give India hope as century stalls Australia | Cricket

Nitish Kumar Reddy blossoms to give India hope as century stalls Australia | Cricket

As India’s tour of Australia has worn on, the coverage has become preoccupied with fading veterans – Steve Smith, Usman Khawaja, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli – and speculation about whether somebody’s decent score is a last hurrah, or if a lack of one is a terminal sign. A preoccupation with whether body language or temper tantrums or patterns of dismissal mean one thing or another, whether any of these interpretations can tell us how much longer they can push on, or how close to the end they might be.

Sport obsesses about retirements, about endings. Will a player will finish on their terms or carry on too long? God forbid they are forced out too soon. Perhaps these are symbolic little deaths, a way to come to grips with the idea in life. The sporting version of kids getting a rabbit or a budgie. But the tendency strays into the ghoulish, hanging noses over the fence to stare at great players and waiting for them to drop. The enjoyment of what a player does can be lost in wondering what they might do next.

So while the focus has been on the elders, it only became clear during the fourth Test in Melbourne that the story of this series is being written by the young. There was Sam Konstas on day one, wowing the crowd in his brief but furious attacking burst, then Nitish Kumar Reddy on day three, with an innings of far more significance and substance to reach his first Test century. At 358 for nine answering Australia’s 474, he has taken India from almost certain defeat to some hope of salvation.

From his debut a month ago, Reddy immediately showed signs that he has what it takes. Only 21, he already had a name for himself in India after some huge scores in age-group cricket and a good IPL season with the bat earlier this year, though his seam bowling got smashed. Meanwhile, his handful of first-class fixtures for domestic minnow state Andhra have been underwhelming with the bat but encouraging with the ball. Fortunately, India’s selectors divined enough to get him into the squad and then into the XI to start the series.

Starting his tour in Perth, Reddy had the range to top score with 41 in the first innings when India were sunk, last man out, then punch the bruise in the second innings when India had got on top, 38 not out from 27 balls. In Adelaide, top score again, both innings, with 42. No support again, last man out and then second last. Even in Brisbane where he only made 16, he batted an hour and a quarter as India ground towards avoiding the follow-on, key to them escaping with a draw.

So in Melbourne it was a similar story: trailing by 283 on the first innings when he came in at six wickets down. He had the same advantage as he had enjoyed in most of his innings, namely a free hit given India’s precarious position. Yet, this time, he had something new: a partner with proper batting credentials in Washington Sundar.

The pacing of Reddy’s innings was measured beautifully. Even so far behind the game, he made it a point immediately to be busy, looking to work shots into gaps rather than just defend. He called loudly and ran hard, often completing threes and at one point a four. He wasn’t fussed about boundaries, hitting only a few in his first half-century, though as in Perth he made a point of dynamic footwork to Nathan Lyon, sometimes defending on the march but at one point lofting him for six.

Most impressive was his handling of pace, surviving Pat Cummins’ hostility and Scott Boland’s probing. Cummins used the short ball in a fashion that seemed all the more nasty for how much it was measured, snorting a couple per over up armpits and nostrils in a visceral display, in between pitching further up to beat edges repeatedly. Reddy took the hits, rode the bounce, kept some down and let some pass with a stylish sway away. His physical presence was about showing that he was up to the challenge.

It was tough, all day long, through the wicketless second session and deep into the third. Reddy had a few moments of luck, including a bizarre leading edge from an attempted leg glance that somehow flew behind the batter in exactly the opposite direction, to second slip. Smith was so flummoxed by it finding him there that he couldn’t hang on. But mostly Reddy was the one in control, fighting to stay there every ball. It never got easy, but he never wavered.

At least until reaching 97, when his stoic partner Washington was finally out for an even 50. Suddenly nerves packed the stadium. With significantly more than 80,000 people at the MCG for the third day running, these doubts reflected in the player. Reddy turned down singles that would have exposed Jasprit Bumrah and obviously didn’t have a clear enough chat before the last ball of an over, when Bumrah ran a panicked two instead of the single that would have kept the senior man on strike.

This gave Cummins a full over at Bumrah, who duly nicked the third ball, prompting bedlam as Reddy was reunited with Siraj. India’s jack managed to defend his stumps for the final three balls, and as much as Australian supporters had been roaring for the wicket, the roar of appreciation when Reddy smoked a straight four was even louder. Applause and respect for the skill and courage of a young star on the rise.

The only thing sport coverage loves as much as retirements is arrivals. Getting into a lather about young players, the thrill of the new. Most of them aren’t able to stay at the top. Washington was that guy for India last time, in Brisbane 2021, and has barely played since. Australia in recent years celebrated young openers in Matthew Renshaw, Cameron Bancroft, Will Pucovski, all of whom have now vanished from the Test arena.

Reddy’s career from here might be anything. His time might be long or short. What we can say is that his work on this day was astonishing, a kid who recently received his 21st birthday key using it to unlock his method. The skill, the composure, and the degree of difficulty, means it’s an innings that should sit in the top tier of MCG centuries. From here who knows? Resuming on 105 on the fourth morning, Siraj might help him add a few more. At 116 runs behind, India are not entirely out of this match.

In a thrilling match against Australia, Nitish Kumar Reddy showcased his exceptional talent and skill, scoring a magnificent century to lead India to victory. With this stellar performance, Reddy has undoubtedly become a beacon of hope for Indian cricket fans, especially as the team faced a temporary stall in their run chase.

Reddy’s innings was nothing short of brilliant, displaying impeccable technique, composure under pressure, and an unwavering determination to succeed. His ability to adapt to different situations and play with a mix of aggression and patience was truly commendable, earning him the praise of fans and critics alike.

As India continues to strive for success on the international cricket stage, players like Nitish Kumar Reddy are proving to be instrumental in the team’s quest for glory. With his remarkable skills and match-winning performances, Reddy has certainly blossomed into a key player for India, instilling hope and confidence in fans across the country.

As we celebrate Reddy’s incredible century and India’s triumph over Australia, let us look forward to more stellar performances from this talented cricketer and the rest of the Indian team. The future of Indian cricket is indeed bright, and players like Nitish Kumar Reddy are leading the way towards greater success and glory on the cricket field.

Legendary Sunil Gavaskar on Sunday told Mutyala, father of India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, that his sacrifices have helped the nation unearth “a gem in cricket”. The 21-year-old Reddy’s remarkable maiden Test century against Australia helped India keep the first-innings deficit to 105 runs, which could have been in excess of 200 after the visitors were reduced to 221 for seven in reply to the hosts’ 474 at one stage. “You know about the big sacrifices he made (in Nitish’s journey) and because of you I have tears in my eyes. India has found a gem in cricket because of you,” said Gavaskar in a voice subdued by emotions.

Nitish’s mother, who too was emotional, told Gavaskar that she was still not able to believe that her son was playing at such a big venue and produced such a “big innings”.

Mutyala, who battled a sea of emotions on Saturday as his son produced a doughty hundred to keep India in the contest, thanked everyone and touched Gavaskar’s feet as a mark of respect.

Earlier, former Indian coach Ravi Shastri too had said that he had tears in eyes watching Reddy’s gritty knock.

Coming in at No. 8, Reddy was eventually dismissed for 114 off 189 balls with 11 fours and a six on Day Four morning.

“More importantly, the way he batted, showcasing his talent and discipline, which is why you and Irfan were speaking (while commentating),” Shastri told Star Sports.

“I was tongue-tied and I had tears in my eyes. I don’t get tears (of joy) in my eyes that easily. I enjoyed watching (Reddy’s innings) yesterday,” he added.

Former Indian players were emotional, and they cried when Nitish Kumar Reddy completed a hundred, his maiden in the fourth Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The 21-year-old amassed 114 runs in front of greats like Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Nathan Lyon. Mark Nicholas, who played first-class cricket in England, was also up on his toes, praying for the batter’s hundred. He didn’t sit down in the commentatory box till Nitish reached the three-figure mark.

The fans were united for a young player who was chasing his dream. A dream of his father and a family who sacrificed everything for their lad. His father is a hero who left his job.

“I tell you, his father went down on his knees in front of Sunil Gavaskar, and they both shed tears. Nitish is an incredible cricketer, as it is not easy to score a hundred in Melbourne and front of a big ground and a world-class bowling attack.

“It is one of the best centuries in the history of Test cricket, considering the occasions and the situation India were in,” he added.

As Nitish Kumar Reddy completed an astonishing maiden Test ton in just his fourth Test in front of a packed crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), visuals of his father Mutyala Reddy’s tears and joy won the hearts of cricket fans around the world. Reddy’s journey has been a long one, filled with huge sacrifices from his father. But from having to see his father sacrifice his job in order to support his career, to getting his Test cap from his idol Virat Kohli, to slamming his first Test century, it has been a remarkable ride for Nitish Reddy.

The role of Mutyala Reddy in Nitish’s career has been instrumental. The senior Reddy gave up a stable job and endured financial problems just to be able to support his son’s blooming cricket career.

As his childhood coach Kumar Swamy says to The Indian Express, “Everyone wants to be a hero in their cinema but when it comes to Nitish’s story it is Mutyala who is the hero.”

Mutyala never gave up on his son’s dreams, reports The Indian Express. Even when he was informed that Nitish wasn’t good enough for cricket at district level, his father persisted and only helped Nitish improve. At the age of 16, after he had smashed more than 1,200 runs in the Vijay Merchant Trophy, dreams of playing for India and stabilising his family situation started truly being a goal for Nitish.

“To be honest, I was not that serious when I was young. My father left his job for me. There has been lots of sacrifice in my story. One day I saw him crying due to financial problems he had, and it felt like I had to do the hard work,” Reddy had told BCCI.TV.

“Your father did this sacrifice and you are just enjoying cricket by playing it for fun. So at that time, I took it seriously and suddenly in one year, I got the growth, did the hard work and it paid off,” Reddy added.

Young Nitish also had another dream – to play alongside his idol, Virat Kohli.

“When I was young, I would calculate my age to see if I could play for India while Virat Kohli is still playing,” Reddy told BCCI.TV.

As it turned out, the dream came true. Kohli presented 21-year-old Nitish his first Test cap in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. At such a young age, his rare skilset – a fast-bowling all-rounder – saw him breakthrough into the XI. “I’m preparing myself for the Hardik Pandya role,” he had told NDTV in July.

A lesser known fact about Nitish is that he was the net bowler of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2021. But it was at Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2023 when Nitish truly made the big time. With inputs from the experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Nitish’s bowling continued to improve.

SRH saw Nitish turn from wonderkid to superstar in a couple of months, and then once again, it was his father who advised him to stick to SRH and not chase after millions in the IPL.

From a 13-year-old seemingly unfit to play district cricket to a centurion at the ‘G’, it’s been a crazy ride for Nitish Reddy.
