  • Jeff Gordon disagrees with NASCAR’s new ‘Kyle Larson Rule’ in 2025

NASCAR is heading into the 2025 Cup Series season with a few new rules. Most notably, NASCAR changed its playoff waiver policy, which will take away all of a driver’s playoff points for the 26-race regular season if they miss a race for non-medical or family reasons. According to one NASCAR executive, this rule didn’t necessarily need to go into place.

Hendrick Motorsports Vice Chairman Jeff Gordon joined SiriusXM NASCAR Radio for an interview last week and talked about the latest rule changes by NASCAR, including the playoff waiver policy that could be connected to Kyle Larson’s situation in 2024. Needless to say, Gordon isn’t a big fan of the new policy.

“That’s obviously the Kyle Larson rule,” Gordon said with a laugh on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. “The one comment I’ll make about that is there’s a lot of debate over this, right? Last year, I was right there the whole time. I flew on the plane with Kyle from [Indianapolis] to Charlotte, and I personally don’t think NASCAR needed to take any further steps. Here’s my reason why: I saw the hurt on Kyle Larson’s face, and I could feel him letting his team down. I had the conversations with [Rick Hendrick] and the conversations he’s having with NASCAR, Chad Knaus, and Jeff Andrews. I heard it from fans and sponsors.”

In a surprising turn of events, NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon has publicly voiced his disagreement with the league’s new ‘Kyle Larson Rule’ in 2025. The rule, which was implemented in response to Kyle Larson’s controversial comments made during a virtual race in 2020, prohibits drivers from using any form of hate speech or derogatory language while representing the sport.

Gordon, known for his clean-cut image and professionalism both on and off the track, has always been a strong advocate for sportsmanship and fair play in NASCAR. However, he believes that the new rule goes too far in policing drivers’ speech and could potentially infringe on their freedom of expression.

In a recent interview, Gordon stated, “While I understand the importance of maintaining a positive image for the sport, I believe that penalizing drivers for their words, no matter how inappropriate, sets a dangerous precedent. We should be focusing on educating and promoting inclusivity rather than punishing those who make mistakes.”

Gordon’s comments have sparked a heated debate within the NASCAR community, with some fans and drivers supporting his stance, while others argue that the ‘Kyle Larson Rule’ is necessary to protect the sport’s reputation and ensure a welcoming environment for all participants.

It remains to be seen how NASCAR will respond to Gordon’s criticism and whether any changes will be made to the controversial rule. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

  • Dale Earnhardt Jr. fed up with NASCAR waivers, ‘Kyle Larson Rule’

NASCAR has passed a few new waiver rules heading into the 2025 season and one of the ones that has drawn the most scrutiny has already been dubbed the ‘Kyle Larson Rule.’

That rule? NASCAR has changed its playoff waiver policy.

The new policy will strip all of a driver’s playoff points for the 26-race regular season if they miss a race for non-medical or family reasons.

It’s been called the Kyle Larson Rule, in part, because the driver needed a waiver to make the playoffs last season after missing the Coca-Cola 600 while trying to pull the double with the Indianapolis 500.

There’s at least one man with a lot of say-so in NASCAR circles that isn’t a fan of the new waiver rule in the slightest.

“I hate putting that label on it, but look: I don’t like this waiver stuff,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. said on the Dale Jr. Download. “Like the original, the whole idea of it, I just don’t love it. Listen, I mean, I’m trying not to use any examples, but man if you’re injured and you’re out, you’re injured and you’re out. I don’t think there should be a medical waiver.

“I don’t think there should be any waiver whatsoever. You show up, you race, you get points. If you don’t race, you don’t start, you don’t get the points. You just don’t. So what is the argument against that? Why do we need the waiver at all?”

Some like the idea of drivers like Larson being able to compete across various driving disciplines. It certainly created a fun viewership experience for the fans, with the will-he-won’t-he-make-it drama creating a truly unique angle last year.

“I don’t love the optics of it,” Earnhardt said.

Earnhardt seemed at a loss for how to process that drivers could be given a pass without racing the full slate. He asked his co-hosts on the show for an explanation in defense of the new waiver rules.

He didn’t find any of them particularly satisfying.

“It had been a certain way for so many years and then now you can miss races due to an injury and still run for a championship,” Earnhardt said. “And I just never really like thought that was part of the deal. So I guess when I was asking you what the argument against it is, I was hoping you might say, ‘Well, an NFL quarterback can get injured, come back and then take his team to the championship’ and say OK, that’s kind of what it’s like.”

To Earnhardt, though, it’s just tough luck if you’re forced to miss significant time on the racing circuit. Even if you’ve accumulated enough points to otherwise qualify.

“In my mind the waiver is only to make sure your big stars are in the playoffs,” Earnhardt said. “And so if something were to happen, somebody gets hurt or some medical issue happens — I don’t know that I feel that great, I don’t know that I feel good about the medical pass, getting the free pass off of an injury.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has had enough of NASCAR’s waivers and the controversial “Kyle Larson Rule.” The retired NASCAR driver took to social media to express his frustration with the league’s inconsistent handling of penalties and waivers for certain drivers.

In his post, Earnhardt Jr. criticized NASCAR for granting waivers to drivers like Larson, who was reinstated after using a racial slur during a virtual race last year. The “Kyle Larson Rule” allows drivers who have been suspended for disciplinary reasons to apply for a waiver to be eligible for competition again.

Earnhardt Jr. argued that NASCAR’s waivers undermine the integrity of the sport and send the wrong message to fans and sponsors. He called for a more transparent and consistent policy when it comes to disciplinary actions and reinstatements.

Fans and fellow drivers rallied behind Earnhardt Jr., agreeing that NASCAR needs to hold all drivers accountable for their actions and uphold the values of the sport. Many called for a reevaluation of the waiver system and a more stringent approach to enforcing penalties.

As the debate continues, it remains to be seen whether NASCAR will make any changes to its policies in response to the criticism from Earnhardt Jr. and others in the racing community. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

  • Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson still optimistic about rebuild: ‘This takes time’

CHICAGO — Kyle Davidson hears you. He knows Blackhawks fans want to see a winning team again. He does too.

However, Davidson isn’t going to sacrifice his long-term plan for short-term results. While that plan hasn’t gone exactly as expected in the NHL this season, he is still quite confident the Blackhawks are on course to be successful.

“This is the process that we’re running, right?” Davidson said Monday morning. “When we set out a while ago to build this thing back up, we needed to build through the draft, we needed to find our new core, and that takes time. The players have to grow, they have to mature, they’ve got to develop. We’re in that process and we’re seeing those steps taking place. It may not, this year, have resulted in more wins in the NHL level, but we’re seeing that happen underneath the surface here.

“This takes time. We knew it would take time. There’s nothing that’s gone on in our prospect group or the development of our young players that’s causing me concern. Of course, you go to the NHL rink, you go to the United Center, you watch on TV and you want the team to win. I feel that way, too. Players, coaches, everyone feels that way. Having said that, we are in the process of a rebuild here, and it’s going to be on the backs of our young players and prospects.”

Taylor Hall trade cleared a path for Blackhawks to develop prospects

Davidson reiterated multiple times during his media session that he remains confident in where the Blackhawks are headed.

“Did I expect us to be better than second to last? I did, I did,” Davidson said. “But that doesn’t at all mean that I’m concerned about the bigger picture here, about the bigger process at play here in terms of where we’re headed and how good this group and this young group coming up can be. That hasn’t changed at all. I’m probably more optimistic having seen the years our young players are having throughout the organization. I’m probably more optimistic now than I was in the summer in that respect.”

Davidson touched on several topics during his 30-minute media session. Here are some of the highlights.

    • There was plenty of dissection of the Blackhawks’ part in Friday’s blockbuster trade. Davidson downplayed their role and the idea he could have gotten more out of it. Chicago sent Taylor Hall to Carolina, regained its third-round draft pick in 2025 and will retain 50 percent of Mikko Rantanen’s salary.

“It was pretty minimal on our side, obviously a pretty big deal,” Davidson said. “I think there’s a little bit of confusion on what our role was in it. I think, for us, we were happy to get the asset that we got back. In moving Taylor, I think it was something that was probably going to happen at some point.”

Davidson’s explanation included that he didn’t want to use one salary retention spot on the trade and another later on Hall, so it made sense to use one in the deal. He also explained he thought the market for Hall was about what they received. Davidson was pretty honest about Hall’s play diminishing, which could have later impacted his value.

“In waiting, you run the risk of things like injury, (and) the role was diminishing almost by the game,” Davidson said. “It just wasn’t heading towards a way that was going to maximize or enhance value. In moving then, we moved at full price and held (salary) on the other player involved. It just didn’t make sense to wait and not really get a better return later on.”

    • Davidson was asked in a variety of ways whether he’d be willing to pursue a high-tier player next offseason. He wasn’t committal, but he also didn’t close the door.

“We’ll see,” he said. “It’s January. I have no clue who’s going to be available in six, seven months. We’ll continue to consider once we know who’s actually available and what makes sense. A lot can change in the next six months, basically, before we get there. I will say, you’re never ruling anything out, right? You’re always considering what makes sense short, medium and long term. Whether that’s when you get to the summer and signings, whether that’s trade opportunities that become available or considerations you’re making for your roster, you’re never not considering things. So we always do. Something like that, that’s obviously a question I get asked a lot.”

But does he believe the Blackhawks need that type of player?

“I don’t know,” he responded. “Well, I think every team needs players like that, right? But when you get that player and who those players are, it’s really tough to say what the right fit is. And the other thing, too, is we’re one of 32 (teams), and everyone wants star players. We’re not a one-team league. It’s not the Chicago Blackhawks get to pick players and go get them, and off to the races.

“It’s a competitive league and everyone wants to win. And we’re no different than anyone else answering these types of questions and having these types of conversations.”

Davidson didn’t discount the idea of trading draft picks or being flexible. He said he’d do what would make sense at the time.

“There’s no rigidity to or trying to be firm to a certain plan that we’re we have to do it this way all the way until the end of time, and we’re just going to keep running it back at the draft, or what have you,” he said. “You have to be fluid. You have to be nimble in these things. We’re always evaluating, reevaluating, considering options. … You’ve got to have stages, and you’ve got to have different maneuvers along the way. And I’m extremely open to considering whatever is out there.”

    • Davidson provided his assessment of interim coach Anders Sorensen. The Blackhawks have gone 7-13-3 since Davidson replaced Luke Richardson with Sorensen. Time will tell whether Sorensen can win the permanent job, but Davidson was mostly positive about him. Davidson said from a high-level assessment that Sorensen has been effective.

“I think he’s done a nice job so far,” Davidson said. “We’ve seen a little bit of highs and lows throughout his time with us so far at the NHL level. I think some of the habits and some of the mentality we have as a team has improved in my opinion. I think there’s some things we still need to clean up — especially when we’re playing with leads, trying to stay on that front foot and trying to keep pushing. But the fact we’ve been pushing and been able to generate offense earlier in the game and putting the team in a position to have to hold leads is a good thing, and holding leads later into games and getting results has been nice lately. I’ve really liked that.”

    • Davidson admitted the team as a whole isn’t where he’d expected it. He directed that blame largely to Richardson when he made the coaching change in December. Since then, the overall results haven’t gotten much better.

“When we made the coaching change, we were in last place, and that wasn’t where we wanted to be or we expected to be,” Davidson said. “We had realistic expectations coming into the year about the group. … We had a lot of holes to fill, and so we had to bring in a number of players, and we did. … I think we expected to be a little further ahead in the standings, but there are a lot of things we have improved upon from last year, almost across the board.

“Having said that, we are in second to last, and that’s not ideally where we wanted to be, but it is what is and we are where we are. We’ll react accordingly as we head into the trade deadline and the offseason and what we look to do with the group moving forward.”

    • Davidson still expects to be a seller as the trade deadline approaches.

“We’ll be listening, you know, listening to see what happens,” Davidson said. “Obviously when you’re in a position that that we’re in, you’re traditionally more of a seller, but we’ll just kind of see what comes our way. Nothing that we’re going to certainly force. We’ve got a lot of assets. We’re not necessarily in that asset-build stage like we were a little while ago. And so, we’ve got the luxury of being patient and just seeing what comes our way, and hoping that the group, you know, continues to take some steps in the right direction as we have the last week or so.”

    • Davidson is hopeful goalie Laurent Brossoit will still play this season. As for potentially having three goalies, Davidson said he isn’t concerned.

“We’ve got a really great goalie coach in Jimmy Waite here,” Davidson said. “We’re hopeful (Brossoit) will (return). But if he does come back this year, then we’re very confident he’ll be able to manage that dynamic which is not traditional but it’s the situation we’d be in if he’d return. I think we’ll be fine working through that if we end up with three goaltenders on the NHL roster.”

Despite a challenging start to the season, Chicago Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson remains optimistic about the team’s rebuild.

In a recent interview, Davidson emphasized the importance of patience and perseverance in the rebuilding process. “This takes time,” he said. “We knew from the beginning that rebuilding the Blackhawks would be a long-term project, and we are committed to seeing it through.”

Davidson acknowledged that there have been some setbacks along the way, but he believes that the team is making progress. “We have a solid core of young talent that we are developing, and we are constantly looking for ways to improve and build for the future,” he stated.

While the Blackhawks may not be where they want to be just yet, Davidson is confident that the team is headed in the right direction. “It’s all about staying focused on our goals and staying the course,” he said. “We are building something special here in Chicago, and I believe that we will see the results of our hard work in the near future.”

Fans may be feeling frustrated with the team’s performance, but Davidson is urging them to trust the process. “I know it’s tough right now, but I ask for our fans to be patient and have faith in what we are trying to accomplish here,” he said. “We are building a team that Chicago can be proud of, and I believe that the best is yet to come.”

    Josh Edwards

2025 NFL Mock Draft: Cowboys land complement to CeeDee Lamb, two new offensive playmakers in the AFC West

    Shrine Bowl top prospects

    • Prospect ranking: No. 9 (No. 2 QB)

Sanders enters the event as one of the most scrutinized prospects in America. There is a lot of pressure being Deion Sanders’ son playing the most important position on the field. The quarterback has shown that he is capable of handling the spotlight and uplifting his team in big moments. He has thrown for 3,000 yards and 25 touchdowns with no more than 10 interceptions in each of the past four seasons. The belief is that he will be one of the first quarterbacks to hear his name called in April’s draft.

Sanders’ older brother, Colorado safety Shilo Sanders, is also participating in the event.

    • Prospect ranking: No. 19 (No. 2 CB)

Revel had a lot of buzz around his name coming into the season, but an injury ended that prematurely. Revel is incredibly long at 6-foot-3, and he recorded two interceptions in the Pirates’ first three games. He will not be able to take part of physical activities as a result of that injury, but Revel has a chance to hear his name called in the first round of April’s draft.

    • Prospect ranking: No. 24 (No. 3 DL)

At 6-foot-3 and 339 pounds, Grant profiles as a traditional nose tackle who will stuff two gaps in the run game and constrict the amount of space teams have to work with on offense. He will not offer much in terms of a pass rush, but his athleticism is good relative to his size.

    • Prospect ranking: No. 65 (No. 13 DL)

West lacks ideal length but is always moving. He has good mass to get on the hips of blockers and force his way into the backfield. The Kent State transfer has heavy hands and does a good job deconstructing blocks, but lacks the ideal length.

    • Prospect ranking: No. 104 (No. 17 DL)

Pegeus is a sawed-off ball of energy. Despite being 6-foot-2 and 325 pounds, he will occasionally line up on the end for the Razorbacks. In 2024, he recorded 3.5 sacks. The Mississippi native has a wide array of pass-rush moves. He signed with Auburn out of high school and began his collegiate career as a tight end. A transition to the defensive side of the ball did not occur until the spring of 2021.

    • Prospect ranking: No. 106 (No. 5 QB)

A lot of the blame for how the 2023 season concluded at Ohio State was laid at the feet of McCord, and that resulted in a uber-motivated quarterback in Fran Brown’s first season as head coach of the Orange. McCord showed great leadership en route to throwing for 4,779 yards, 34 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

    • Prospect ranking: No. 146 (No. 25 DL)

Baron began his career at Tennessee, transferred to Ole Miss, committed to Louisville as a transfer, then landed at Miami. Although his journey featured multiple stops, he had the sixth-highest pressure rate (20.3%) in college football among players with at least 150 pass rush snaps last season, according to TruMedia. Baron compiled 11.5 total sacks over the past two seasons.

    • Prospect ranking: No. 150 (No. 23 CB)

A few years ago, Villanova produced a lightly discussed cornerback prospect by the name of Christian Benford, who has been solid for the Bills. Waxter has good length and great production having allowed just 157 yards and one touchdown this season, according to TruMedia.

    • Prospect ranking: No. 183 (No. 10 IOL)

Wehr played right tackle last season for the Bobcats, but his limited athleticism necessitated a move inside. He played guard this past season but could even play center. A player with that level of positional versatility is valuable to teams looking to fill out a limited number of roster spots in the fall. Wehr has really good technique and does a good job moving his hands and feet when engaged.

The full Shrine Bowl roster can be found here.

The 2025 NFL Draft is to take place from April 24-26 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. More draft coverage can be found at CBSSports.com, including weekly mock drafts and a regularly available look at the eligible prospects

The 2025 Shrine Bowl is set to showcase some of the top college football prospects in the country, including Shedeur Sanders, Kyle McCord, and other standout players. This prestigious all-star game is a must-watch for fans and scouts alike, as it provides a glimpse into the future of the sport.

Sanders, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, is a highly touted quarterback who has already made a name for himself at the collegiate level. With his strong arm and impressive athleticism, he is sure to put on a show at the Shrine Bowl and solidify his status as a top prospect for the upcoming NFL draft.

McCord, a standout quarterback from Ohio State, is another player to keep an eye on during the Shrine Bowl. Known for his accuracy and poise in the pocket, he has the potential to make a big impact on the game and impress scouts with his skills.

In addition to Sanders and McCord, there are several other top prospects who will be competing in the Shrine Bowl, including standout wide receivers, running backs, and defensive players. This game is a prime opportunity for these players to showcase their talents and make a case for their future in the NFL.

Be sure to tune in to the 2025 Shrine Bowl to see Shedeur Sanders, Kyle McCord, and other top prospects in action. It’s sure to be an exciting game filled with highlights and memorable moments that will have football fans talking for years to come.

  • Kyle Walker joins Milan on loan from Manchester City

Milan have completed the loan signing of Kyle Walker from Manchester City.

The deal includes an option for the Serie A club to make the move permanent.

The Athletic reported on Thursday Walker, 34, was flying to Milan to complete his loan move.

The deal means the England international fills Milan’s final non-EU player slot, effectively ending the chance of Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford joining the side.

“Manchester City… where do I start?” Walker wrote on Instagram. “Signing for this incredible club in 2017 was a dream come true. Seven years later, winning 17 trophies, including the Champions League and the famous treble is something I could only have dreamt as a child.

“To play alongside so many top players has pushed me to be the best version of myself, and I’m truly grateful for the opportunity I’ve had at the Etihad.

“A huge thank you to so many people, the coaching staff, the kit men and all the backroom staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes. You make every day enjoyable and provide the platform for us to perform at our best.

“To Pep Guardiola, thank you for believing in me and working so hard to bring me here in 2017. Together, we’ve celebrated 17 trophies, and your guidance has helped shape me into the player I am today. I’ll be forever grateful.”

Walker has 18 months remaining on his City contract but City manager Pep Guardiola said on January 11 that the 34-year-old had requested permission to leave the club after eight seasons at the Etihad Stadium.

“Two days ago, Kyle asked to explore the options to play abroad at the end of his career,” Guardiola said after City’s 8-0 FA Cup win over Salford City.

Walker joined City from Tottenham Hotspur for £50million (now $61.6m) in 2017 and has since won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups and the Champions League.

He came close to a move to Bayern Munich in 2023 and attracted interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia last summer.

Walker will wear the No 32 shirt at Milan.

Milan are eighth in Serie A and on course to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages, sitting sixth in the league phase.

City have already had a busy January window, with defender Abdukodir Khusanov signing from Lens for €40m plus bonuses on Monday, teenage centre-back Vitor Reis arriving for €35m the following day and forward Omar Marmoush joining from Eintracht Frankfurt for €70m on Thursday.

    (Carl Recine/Getty Images)

Manchester City full-back Kyle Walker has joined Serie A giants AC Milan on a season-long loan deal.

The 31-year-old England international made the move to Milan after falling down the pecking order at City, with manager Pep Guardiola opting to use other options at right-back.

Walker, who has been a key player for City since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2017, will now have the chance to showcase his talents in Italy’s top flight.

Milan are hoping that Walker’s experience and quality will help bolster their defensive options as they look to challenge for the Serie A title this season.

Fans of both clubs will be eager to see how Walker adapts to his new surroundings and whether he can make a big impact for Milan during his loan spell.

  • Kyle Walker: AC Milan complete loan deal for Man City captain

Manchester City captain Kyle Walker has completed a move to Italian club AC Milan on loan for the remainder of the season.

The England defender completed a medical with the seven-time European Cup winners on Thursday.

Milan’s deal for Walker includes an option to buy the 34-year-old when his loan deal expires at the end of the season.

Walker, a six-time Premier League winner with City, joins fellow Englishmen Fikayo Tomori, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tammy Abraham at the San Siro.

He will wear the number 32 shirt at Milan, and could make his debut when they host Parma in Serie A on Sunday.

Walker posted a lengthy and emotional statement to his Instagram page paying tribute to City after his transfer was confirmed, saying that signing for the club had been a “dream come true”.

“A huge thank you to so many people, the coaching staff, the kit men and all the backroom staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes,” he wrote. “You make every day enjoyable and provide the platform for us to perform at our best.

“To my team-mates, from the moment I walked through the door I felt at home. Thank you for the great memories and for all the success we have shared together. You are friends, but also family for life.

“To Pep Guardiola, thank you for believing in me and working so hard to bring me here in 2017. Together, we’ve celebrated 17 trophies, and your guidance has helped shape me into the player I am today. I’ll be forever grateful.”

AC Milan have completed a loan deal for Manchester City captain Kyle Walker, as they look to strengthen their defensive options for the upcoming season.

The 31-year-old right-back has been a key player for City since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2017, but has found himself out of favor in recent months.

Milan have been in the market for a new right-back and have identified Walker as the perfect addition to their squad. The loan deal is expected to last for the entirety of the upcoming season, with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign.

Walker’s experience and leadership qualities will be a valuable asset to Milan as they look to challenge for the Serie A title and make an impact in the Champions League.

City manager Pep Guardiola has wished Walker all the best for his loan spell at Milan, and has expressed his confidence that the England international will excel in his new surroundings.

Milan fans will be eagerly anticipating Walker’s debut for the club, as they hope that he can help bring success to the San Siro and solidify their defense for the challenges ahead.

  • Kyle Walker transfer news: Man City defender joins AC Milan on loan with option to buy | Football News

Kyle Walker has left Manchester City and joined AC Milan on an initial six-month loan, with the Serie A club having an option to buy him permanently this summer.

The 34-year-old asked to leave City earlier in January with his last appearance for the club coming in the 4-1 home win over West Ham at the start of the month.

City accepted Milan’s formal loan offer on Thursday. The option to buy in the summer is worth around £4.2m (€5m), according to Sky in Italy.

Paul Merson believes Manchester City are making a mistake by letting Kyle Walker leave the club on loan

Walker has helped City win 17 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League, since joining the club in a £50m deal from Tottenham in 2017.

He was close to joining Bayern Munich after City’s treble win in 2023, but signed a contract extension to keep him at the club until 2026.

Walker departs City having made 319 appearances for the club across seven-and-half-seasons at the Etihad Stadium, while he captained the side for last season’s historic fourth consecutive Premier League title.

The England international will wear the number 32 shirt at AC Milan, who sit eighth in Serie A and are on course to finish in the top eight of the Champions League table with Sergio Conceicao’s occupying sixth spot.

Walker: I’ll be forever grateful to Pep

Walker said he will be “forever grateful” to Man City boss Pep Guardiola, who brought him to the club in 2017.

The ex-Sheffield Utd defender posted on Instagram: “Manchester City… where do I start? Signing for this incredible club in 2017 was a dream come true. Seven years later, winning 17 trophies, including the Champions League and the famous treble is something I could only have dreamt as a child.

“To play alongside so many top players has pushed me to be the best version of myself, and I’m truly grateful for the opportunity I’ve had at the Etihad.

“Most importantly, to the fans – thank you for embracing me as one of your own from day one. Your unwavering support, week in, week out, home and away, will never be forgotten.

“I wish you all constant success going forward. Thank you.”

Walker one of Pep’s most trusted – but time catches up with everyone

Sky Sports News reporter Ben Ransom:

By the end of his first season in charge, Pep Guardiola had realised that it would take a massive overhaul of the Manchester City squad to win the trophies he’d been brought in to deliver.

Ten regular first-team players were shown the exit door in the summer of 2017 and a raft of new talent was brought in to pave the way for an era of domestic dominance.

Central to that was the signing of Kyle Walker, who at the time was the most expensive defender in English football history, arriving from Tottenham for a fee worth more than £50m including add-ons.

Guardiola needed more energy from his full-backs to realise his vision, and Walker was seen to be the perfect upgrade on fan-favourite Pablo Zabaleta, who was released at the age of 32.

Eyebrows were raised at the time, but in the seven-and-a-half years since, Walker has repaid that transfer fee many times over.

In a surprising move, Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has joined AC Milan on loan with an option to buy. The 31-year-old English right-back has been a key player for City since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2017, but has seen his playing time reduced in recent seasons.

Walker’s move to Milan comes as a bit of a shock, as he was expected to stay at City for the foreseeable future. However, the opportunity to join the Serie A giants on loan with an option to make the move permanent was too good to turn down.

Milan are currently in need of defensive reinforcements and Walker’s experience and quality will undoubtedly be a valuable addition to their squad. It remains to be seen whether the move will be made permanent at the end of the season, but Walker will be hoping to impress during his time in Italy.

City fans will no doubt be sad to see Walker leave, but will wish him all the best in his new adventure at Milan. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing transfer news.

  • Kyle Kuzma Says Wizards Haven’t Approached Him About A Trade

A year ago, the Wizards gave Kyle Kuzma the option to approve a trade, and he elected not to join a Mavericks team that wound up in the NBA Finals. Kuzma hasn’t decided what he’ll do if he’s in the same situation this year, but he told Varun Shankar of The Washington Post that the front office hasn’t brought up the subject yet.

“We’ll see how it goes. I don’t know,” Kuzma said. “I think last year was the right time [to stay] after signing the deal. That was kind of more of a last year thing. We haven’t had conversations, haven’t even talked about the deadline, haven’t talked about getting traded. This is really the first time I’m really talking about it.”

Sunday’s loss at Sacramento was the 10th in the row for Washington, which sits at 6-35 and has the league’s worst record by a comfortable margin. Kuzma still has two years left on his contract, and he could bring a valuable return for a franchise that’s clearly prioritizing future assets over any current success.

Shankar notes that Kuzma has been experiencing an up-and-down season and has been limited to 24 games due to groin and rib injuries. He’s averaging just 14.4 points per game, which is down from 22.2 PPG last season and is by far his lowest mark since coming to Washington four years ago. Kuzma’s shooting has been abysmal, as he’s connecting at career lows from the field (42.5%) and three-point range (25.7%).

Even so, Shankar points out that Kuzma has trade value as a 6’10” defender who can play either forward position. He’s only 29, has played on a championship team and has a contract that declines in value, going from $23.5MM this season to $21.5MM next year and $19.4MM in 2026/27.

Kuzma has been a major part of the offense since joining the Wizards, but Shankar suggests that he might be best suited for a complementary role like he had with the Lakers early in his career. He averaged the fourth-most minutes and third-most shot attempts per game during L.A.’s title run in 2020.

In a session with the media before Sunday’s game, coach Brian Keefe was supportive of Kuzma and said the injuries have played a significant role in his decreased production.

“He had gotten some good momentum early and then he got hurt in the [Nov. 30] Atlanta game. And then he was building some momentum and he got hurt again. And then he missed almost a whole month,” Keefe said. “… It’s just been choppy. But when he’s played, he’s been efficient, doing the things that we ask. I just think he’s just had some inconvenient things that happened to him injury-wise that has … ruined his rhythm.”

That choppiness was on display this weekend, Shankar adds. Kuzma had one of his best games of the season Saturday at Golden State, scoring 22 points while shooting 7-of-12 from the field. However, he couldn’t carry that over to Sunday, as the Kings limited him to 13 points while shooting 3-of-15 overall and 1-of-7 from three-point range.

“It’s the first time in my career I’ve been hurt like this,” Kuzma said. “I think it was frustrating at a certain point in time early on … but I’ve gotten over that. Kinda just here, playing game by game, trying to stay in the moment.”

In a recent interview, NBA player Kyle Kuzma revealed that the Washington Wizards have not approached him about a potential trade. Despite the rumors swirling around the league about possible trade deals involving Kuzma, he remains focused on his current team and is committed to helping the Wizards succeed.

Kuzma, who was acquired by the Wizards in a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this year, has quickly become a key player for his new team. He has shown versatility on both ends of the court and has been a reliable scoring option for the Wizards.

Although trade rumors are a common part of the NBA landscape, Kuzma’s comments suggest that he is not letting the speculation distract him from his role with the Wizards. As the team looks to make a push for the playoffs, Kuzma’s presence will be crucial to their success.

Fans of the Wizards can rest assured that Kuzma is fully committed to the team and is focused on helping them achieve their goals this season. While the trade deadline looms, it seems that Kuzma is content to let his play on the court do the talking.
