Since the first Super Bowl in 1967, the halftime show has always been an attraction for fans during the longest scheduled break in the big game. That first title game featured marching bands from the University of Arizona and Grambling College.
The halftime show remained a showcase of marching bands through the 1980s into the 1990s. But things changed when Michael Jackson performed at the 1993 Super Bowl.
EVERY SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW:Usher was the latest to headline a star-studded list
The pop star’s performance ushered in a new era of halftime shows. Since then, popular artists have been a mainstay for the Super Bowl. The likes of Diana Ross, U2, Janet Jackson, The Rolling Stones, Beyoncé, Madonna and Lady Gaga have all made their mark with a memorable halftime show.
This year’s championship game features the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. When these teams met two years ago in Super Bowl 57, Rihanna performed at halftime at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

Here’s who will be performing at halftime of this year’s Super Bowl.
Who is doing the Super Bowl halftime show?
Rapper and hip-hop artist Kendrick Lamar is headlining the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show.
This is Lamar’s second appearance during a Super Bowl halftime show. He was a part of the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show alongside fellow rappers Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Eminem as well as Mary J. Blige.
R&B singer SZA will join Lamar during the halftime show as well.
Who is Kendrick Lamar?
Lamar — born Kendrick Lamar Duckworth in Compton, Calif. — is one of the most acclaimed hip hop artists of all-time. He released his debut album titled “Section.80” in 2011 and signed with Aftermath Entertainment (owned by Dr. Dre) and Interscope Records a year later.
His second album “Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City” pushed Lamar into the spotlight. The album went triple platinum and Lamar earned seven Grammy Award nominations, including album of the year.
Lamar’s sold more than 7.5 million albums in the U.S. More than half of that number came from his 2017 album “DAMN.” which sold more than four million copies worldwide. His album “DAMN.” was the first musical composition that wasn’t jazz or classical to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music. He was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2019 for “All the Stars,” a song featuring SZA.

NFL News: Lamar Jackson star Ravens teammate claims Josh Allen, Bills were ‘robbed’ against Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs
Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills made a statement by defeating Lamar Jackson‘s Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round of the 2025 NFL playoffs. But once again, they failed to get past Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Only three points separated Allen and company from Super Bowl LIX, though some feel that the result would’ve been different had the referees granted a critical first down to the Bills early in the fourth quarter.
One of Jackson’s best teammates, for instance, went as far as suggesting that Buffalo was ‘robbed’ on that play. We’re talking about Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey, who shared his thoughts on social media.
“They lowkey did rob the Bills from the 4th down conversion. Josh definitely crossed the line,” Humphrey wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), in reference to a quarterback sneak by Allen that turned the ball over to the Chiefs on downs.

The call that affected Allen, Bills against the Chiefs
The play in question took place with 13:01 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Bills, leading 22-21 in the game, faced a fourth-and-one situation at Kansas City’s 41-yard line. Sean McDermott decided to keep the offensive unit on the field to try and get the first down with Allen’s legs.

NFL News: Patrick Mahomes’ wife Brittany takes a shot at Bills fans after Chiefs make Super Bowl LIX
As the Chiefs defense stopped Allen near the line of scrimmage, the refs considered that the Bills quarterback fell short of yards. After watching a replay, even though the images still looked unclear, the NFL officiating crew stood by its original decision.
It’s safe to say it may have been a game-changing moment, as Mahomes went on to score a rushing touchdown in the following drive, putting the Chiefs in front by 29-22 after a successful two-point conversion pass.
Allen orchestrated a nine-play, 70-yard touchdown drive in the Bills’ next possession to tie the score, but Kansas City responded with the field goal that ended up making the difference at Arrowhead.
McDermott believes Allen got the first down in Kansas City
Speaking to reporters after his team’s loss, McDermott let everyone know that, even though he wasn’t sure about which angles were used in the replay, he thought that Allen got the first down.

NFL News: Sean McDermott’s message to Josh Allen, Bills after another playoff loss to Mahomes, Reid’s Chiefs
“I thought he had it. Just short of the line was actually the first down, what it looked like to me when it was sitting next to me with the marker, just inside that white stripe was the first down and it looked like he got to it. That’s all I can say,” McDermott stated.
For many, this call will go down as a big “what if” in the Bills’ season. Either way, it would be unfair to take credit away from the Chiefs. At the end of the day, Mahomes is still unbeaten against Allen in four playoff games. And now he’s chasing a third consecutive Super Bowl win.
In a recent interview, star Baltimore Ravens teammate of Lamar Jackson, Marlon Humphrey, expressed his belief that the Buffalo Bills were “robbed” in their AFC Championship game against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Humphrey, who is known for his outspoken nature, did not hold back in his assessment of the controversial calls made during the game. Many fans and analysts have pointed to a crucial pass interference call that was not called on a crucial fourth down play late in the game as a key moment that could have changed the outcome. Humphrey echoed these sentiments, stating that he believes the Bills were unfairly disadvantaged by the officiating.
Despite the controversy surrounding the game, the Chiefs emerged victorious and advanced to the Super Bowl, where they will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bills, on the other hand, will have to regroup and look towards next season.
As the NFL offseason approaches, it will be interesting to see how the league addresses issues of officiating and fairness in games. In the meantime, fans can expect more drama and excitement as the Super Bowl approaches.

When is Super Bowl halftime show? When Kendrick Lamar will perform
Kendrick Lamar has been granted the honor of playing the Super Bowl 59 halftime show. The 17-time Grammy Award winner’s fans are certainly looking forward to seeing him perform on one of the world’s biggest stages.
Of course, pinning down exactly when Kendrick – and guest performer SZA – will take the stage is an inexact science. They are scheduled to go on shortly after the first half of the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles game finishes, but the length of the first half is variable.
If both teams methodically move the ball without many incompletions, halftime could arrive quicker than most expect. If it becomes more of a defensive slog with plenty of incompletions and punts in the contest’s early stages, it may take longer to get to Kendrick’s act.
Here’s what to know about the Super Bowl halftime show’s start time and when Kendrick Lamar’s fans might get a chance to see him perform “Not Like Us” at the Big Game.
SUPER BOWL HISTORY:Here’s every halftime performer by year

What time is the Super Bowl halftime show?
- Start time rough estimate: 8-8:30 p.m. ET
There is no set start time for Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance. It will, naturally, depend on the length of Super Bowl 59’s first half.
The Chiefs vs. Eagles Super Bowl is scheduled to kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET. If the game starts on time as expected, halftime would likely occur about an hour and a half into the game, which would be 8 p.m. ET.
Those looking to guarantee they will see Kendrick Lamar’s show as it happens will want to tune into the Super Bowl broadcast slightly before 8 p.m. ET, just in case the first half is unexpectedly fast-moving. That doesn’t guarantee the halftime show will begin right at 8 p.m. ET, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.
What channel will Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show be on?
Fox is set to broadcast Super Bowl 59. That will include pre- and postgame action, the actual game and Kendrick’s halftime show.

Khloe Kardashian is looking back at two particularly difficult moments in her life — weathering a substance abuse issue with ex-husband Lamar Odom , as well as a cheating scandal with the father of her two children, Tristan Thompson .
On the latest episode of her Khloe In Wonder Land podcast, Kardashian sat down with author Mel Robbins for an hour all about how to “Change Your Mindset,” as the pair shared tips on building up resilience while Khloe also offered insight into her own struggles.
During the chat, Odom came up when Khloe was asked whether she’s ever been in a situation “where you know what you need to do but you can’t make yourself do it.”
“I remember, I was married and my ex-husband had a drug addiction. And I knew that his addiction always heightened — he was in the NBA — and I knew his addiction always heightened when he had his off-season, cause idle time is the devil’s playground,” Khloe said.
“And so I remember he was asked to go to Team USA, if I remember correctly, and I was begging, ‘Please, please go to Team USA,’ and I was pushing, and I remember he just looked at me and said, ‘You can’t want it more than I do,’” she recalled.
“I remember when he said you can’t want it more than me, he’s like, ‘You want to suit up? because can’t suit up and I don’t want it,” said Khloe, calling it a “so profound” moment in her life and their marriage.

“It’s so silly, because I know that. But I wanted it so badly, because I wanted to help him and to get him to feel the motivation and feel good, but he just wasn’t in that place,” she added. “I was like, I know what I need to do and it took me a long time to get to, then I had to file for divorce, but that came after.”
Calling it a “very pivotal moment in my life,” Khloe said it’s when she realized she “can’t want your life more than you.”
Later in the episode, Odom came up again when she recalled the first time seeing him party in Las Vegas. While she initially said she thought it was “just how he blows off steam” she realizes that wasn’t the case now.
“In hindsight, I was like, I don’t wanna be with someone that does [drugs] even just a little. Because it could easily be a slippery slope,” she shared. “But you are in love and you’re like, ‘It’s fine.’”
“I remember it would then turn into two days in a row,” she said of his partying, adding that it took her a year and a half to realize “the extent of what was going on” with his substance abuse because “he was really good at concealing it.”

Tristan Thompson’s Cheating Scandal
During the conversation, Kardashian also looked back at how she handled Tristan Thompson’s first cheating scandal — which was made public just as a then-pregnant Khloe was about to give birth to their first child, True Thompson.
“Well the crazy thing is I would draw back to the feelings I had with Lamar — Lamar was my first husband — I knew how to deal with this media scandal. And I was in Cleveland, Ohio, so like let me just stay here for a little bit because that’s where I gave birth,” she recalled.
“And I just knew sort of to stay away from the noise, which L.A. has a lot of noise,” Khloe continued, adding that she also “stayed away from my phone” and “definitely isolated” herself after giving birth. “I never left my house for a few months, I was just with her,” she added.
“I built this little cocoon for us and it was the most magical experience. I wasn’t in denial about all the noise, I didn’t want to pay attention to it,” she added.

She also gave more insight into why Thompson was allowed into the delivery room when she gave birth — after being asked whether she wanted him there at all after his affair.
“And I remember when Tristan had an affair, it was public and I gave birth 48 hours later. And people were like, ‘Do you want him in the hospital room when you’re giving birth?’” she remembered. “And it was my first baby and I said, ‘I do and let’s all act like this didn’t happen.’ Because my daughter’s going to see this home footage one day.”
“I was thinking for my daughter True. And I get sad if I ever see myself because I can tell I’m blank and it’s an out-of-body experience. I just went into autopilot,” she continued. “And I just went into, I’m not here, I was not present. But my body was there, I gave birth, I did what I had to do.”
The decision was all for True, she added, saying that she wanted her daughter to know that her “dad was in the room” when she was born.
“And then when it was done, I was like, ‘I can’t talk to you’ when I put my home camera down,” Khloe concluded. “But I made sure to do what I needed to do for her.”
That, of course, wasn’t Thompson’s only scandal. He later allegedly made a move on Kylie Jenner’s then-BFF Jordyn Woods in 2020, before, in 2021, he welcomed a child with Maralee Nichols while he and Khloe were preparing to welcome their second son, Tatum, together.

To be chosen as a performer at the Super Bowl halftime show can be a gift to those who accept the invitation from the NFL.
With an expected audience of over 100 million people watching the Super Bowl, the exposure can boost record sales and bring a whole new audience to a genre of music that some may not be familiar with.
This year’s Super Bowl halftime performer is award-winning hip-hop artist Kendrick Lamar. Lamar has performed at a previous Super Bowl as he was a co-headliner with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent, and Mary J. Blige at Super Bowl 56 in Inglewood, California. That performance won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Special (Live).
What to know about Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick Lamar Duckworth was born on June 17, 1987, in Compton, California.
NFL STATS CENTRAL: The latest NFL scores, schedules, odds, stats and more.
He was first signed to Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records and released his first album, “Section.80”, in 2011. His next release catapulted him into the mainstream with 2012’s “Good Kid, M.A.A.D City,” which has spent more than 12 years on the Billboard 200 album charts. His albums have sold nearly 8 million copies in the United States, with four hitting No. 1 on the charts.
Kendrick Lamar awards
Kendrick Lamar is one of the most decorated hip-hop artists in history, winning 17 Grammy awards, including wins for Best Rap Album, DAMN. (2018) and for Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers (2023)
This year, he has been nominated for seven Grammy awards: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, twice for Best Rap Performance, twice for Best Rap Song, and Best Music Video.
Lamar has also won 37 BET Hip Hop Awards and seven Billboard Music Awards, but what has set him apart is winning the 2018 Pulitzer Prize Winner in Music for his album DAMN., becoming the first non-classical or jazz artist to be awarded.
The Pulitzer Board said that DAMN. was “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life.”
Beef with Drake
Rap beefs are part of hip-hop culture as the music itself and the latest war of words between top-selling artists have involved hurt feelings, internet chatter, and numerous lawsuits. The beginning of the Lamar-Drake beef seems to be the 2024 release of “Like That” by Lamar, Future, and Metro Boomin. Lamar then released “Euphoria” and “6:16 in LA,” and Drake hit back with “Family Matters.”
Lamar then returned with “Not Like Us,” a No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit that is nominated for five Grammy awards this year and has been streamed more than one billion times. In the song, Lamar accuses Drake of being a pedophile.
In January 2025, Drake sued Universal Music Group in federal court for defamation and harassment over “Not Like Us,” saying that the record label released the song even though pedophilia allegations against him are false.
“The lawsuit is not about the artist who created ‘Not Like Us,’” the lawsuit said. “It is, instead, entirely about UMG, the music company that decided to publish, promote, exploit, and monetize allegations that it understood were not only false, but dangerous.”
