Blues plotting late move for Man City midfielder as Fabrizio Romano drops major update
Chelsea are reportedly plotting a last-ditch move for Manchester City star Nico O’Reilly as Enzo Maresca’s side scramble to add to their midfield options.
As we have reported over the past month, the Blues are keen to bring in more reinforcements in the middle of the park before the window slams shut.
Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo has been targeted by Chelsea but they appear reluctant to match his £70m price tag and it’s expected he will stay at Old Trafford.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have turned to Man City youngster O’Reilly as an alternative and are ‘working’ on a deal ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.
He also notes that Saint-Etienne midfielder Mathis Amougou remains on Chelsea’s shortlist
“Chelsea keep working on new midfielder with enquiry made to Man City for 2005 born midfielder Nico O’Reilly,” Romano posted on X.
“Man City don’t want to lose future control on the player — not an easy deal. Follows enquiry made for Mathis Amougou reported last week, still on list.”

Chelsea are running out of time to sign a new midfielder
TEAMtalk transfer insider Fraser Fletcher reported earlier this week that Chelsea harbour ambitions of bringing in another midfielder and striker before the end of the window.
The Blues don’t have a lot of cover in midfield due to Romeo Lavia being sidelined with another injury, so there is a lot of reliance on Moises Caicedo at the moment.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Carney Chukwuemeka, meanwhile, have been heavily linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge over the past month.
Chelsea are therefore trying to bring in a new midfielder before Monday night and Romano’s report suggests that Man City youngster O’Reilly is a key target.
The 19-year-old is highly regarded by Man City but has found it very difficult to break into the first team this season, making just six appearances across all competitions so far.
It is so far unclear how much Man City will ask for to sell O’Reilly in the coming hours but they will hope that he doesn’t become a superstar if he does join Chelsea, as Cole Palmer has done after making the switch to Stamford Bridge in 2023.
TEAMtalk understands that Chelsea are looking at players with more experience to strengthen the midfield too, with Brighton star Carlos Baleba also on the Blues’ transfer shortlist.
However, there is zero chance of Chelsea signing Balela before the February 3 deadline without massively overpaying for his services.

Chelsea round-up: Disasi rejects Tottenham / Chukwuemeka wants Dortmund
Meanwhile, reports suggest that Tottenham agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign defender Axel Disasi on loan until the end of the season.
However, it’s claimed that Disasi decided to REJECT the move to Spurs as he has already agreed personal terms with Aston Villa and has no desire to join up with Ange Postecoglou’s team.
Chelsea, however, aren’t willing to let the defender join Villa as they don’t want to strengthen a direct rival, so Disasi could be left in limbo unless another team comes in for him.
In other news, Borussia Dortmund have emerged as frontrunners to sign Chelsea midfielder Chukwuemeka on loan.
Everton and West Ham are also interested in Chukwuemeka but Dortmund are now leading the race for the 21-year-old.
TEAMtalk understands that Chukwuemeka is very interested in joining Dortmund and that would be his preference over joining another Premier League side on loan.
Chelsea transfer quiz: Higher or lower?
Blues plotting late move for Man City midfielder as Fabrizio Romano drops major updateIn a surprising turn of events, Chelsea are reportedly plotting a late move for a Manchester City midfielder as transfer expert Fabrizio Romano drops a major update on the situation.
According to Romano, Chelsea are looking to bolster their midfield options before the transfer window closes, and have identified a City midfielder as a potential target. While the identity of the player in question has not been revealed, it is believed that the Blues are keen on adding some depth and quality to their midfield.
This news comes as a shock to many, as City are known for their reluctance to sell key players to direct rivals. However, Chelsea seem determined to push through a deal and are reportedly in talks with the player’s representatives.
It remains to be seen whether this late move will materialize, but Chelsea fans will be hoping that Romano’s update is a sign of exciting things to come in the final days of the transfer window. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.

With Alperen Sengun sidelined, Rockets go ice cold late in blowing lead at Memphis
The Rockets wrapped up a four-game road trip with Thursday’s disappointing 120-119 loss (box score) to the Grizzlies at FedExForum in Memphis. With All-Star center Alperen Sengun (left calf contusion) sidelined, Houston led by eight midway through the fourth quarter but couldn’t generate offense down the stretch, scoring just four points in the final six minutes.
It was a potentially important battle in a race for the No. 2 spot in the Western Conference standings, though Houston (32-15) does have the tiebreaker over Memphis (32-16) thanks to winning the first three games of their four-game season series. Thursday’s game was the finale.
With the Rockets up by a point and under 10 seconds to play, All-Star forward Jaren Jackson Jr. fouled out Houston’s Dillon Brooks on a drive and hit two go-ahead free throws. Rockets veteran Fred VanVleet then misfired on his attempt at a potential winning 3-pointer.
Key statistical lines included:
-
Jalen Green: 25 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists; 5-of-10 on 3-pointers (50.0%), 4-of-5 on free throws (80.0%)
-
Steven Adams: 11 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists in 23 minutes; 4-of-9 shooting (44.4%)
-
Amen Thompson: 21 points, 7 rebounds, 4 blocks, 4 assists; 7-of-15 shooting (46.7%), 7-of-9 on free throws (77.8%)
-
Dillon Brooks: 22 points, 9-of-17 shooting, 3-of-7 on 3-pointers (42.9%), 6 fouls
-
Tari Eason: 13 points, 12 rebounds; 6-of-12 shooting (50.0%)
-
Fred VanVleet: 13 points, 5 assists; 4-of-12 shooting (33.3%), 2-of-8 on 3-pointers (25.0%)
-
Desmond Bane (Grizzlies): 24 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists; 11-of-24 shooting (45.8%)
-
Jaren Jackson Jr. (Grizzlies): 21 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds; 7-of-15 shooting (46.7%), 6-of-7 on free throws (85.7%)
-
Luke Kennard (Grizzlies): 22 points, 2 steals; 9-of-15 shooting (60.0%), 3-of-6 on 3-pointers (50.0%)
Thursday’s game was disjointed at times, with Sengun and Grizzlies star Ja Morant (shoulder) each sidelined by minor injuries. For Houston, Jabari Smith Jr. (left hand fracture) remains out of the lineup, as well.
“We need to be able to put teams away when we have the lead,” said Green, via Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle. “We do a really good job with getting up and then somehow lose the lead. I don’t know if we get comfortable or just out there and they play harder than us.”
Brooks pointed to excessive turnovers. While Houston only had 12 for the game (compared to 11 for Memphis), some of those came in key moments, including one by VanVleet with the Rockets holding a slim lead and just over a minute left to play.
The Rockets had their four-game winning streak snapped with the loss, which finished their road trip at 3-1.

This article originally appeared on Rockets Wire: In blowing lead at Memphis, Alperen Sengun-less Rockets go cold late
The Houston Rockets faced a tough loss on Monday night as they blew a late lead against the Memphis Grizzlies, falling 115-112. With rising star Alperen Sengun sidelined due to injury, the Rockets struggled to maintain their momentum in the fourth quarter, ultimately allowing the Grizzlies to come from behind and secure the victory.Sengun, who has been a key player for the Rockets this season, was sorely missed as the team faltered down the stretch. Despite strong performances from Jalen Green and Christian Wood, the Rockets were unable to close out the game and secure the win.
The loss serves as a reminder of the importance of depth and resilience in the NBA, as injuries can have a significant impact on a team’s performance. As the Rockets look to bounce back from this defeat, they will need to regroup and find ways to overcome adversity in order to continue their development as a young and promising squad.

Despite a strong showing in the second half, the team was unable to overcome Rider’s lead and ultimately suffered a tough loss. The game started off on a competitive note, with both teams trading baskets and playing tough defense. However, Rider was able to build a lead in the first half that the Women’s Basketball team struggled to overcome. Despite some strong individual performances and a valiant effort in the second half, the team was unable to close the gap and secure the win.
It was a tough loss for the team, but they showed resilience and determination throughout the game. The players never gave up and fought until the very end, showcasing their competitive spirit and teamwork.
Although the outcome was not what the team had hoped for, they can take away valuable lessons and use this experience as motivation to come back stronger in their next game. With hard work and dedication, they have the potential to bounce back and secure victories in the future.
Overall, the Women’s Basketball team put forth a commendable effort in their game against Rider, and despite the loss, they should be proud of their performance. They will regroup, learn from this experience, and continue to strive for success in the rest of their season.

A law enforcement source first told The Post that the embattled music mogul, 55, was transported from the Metropolitan Detention Center to the Brooklyn Hospital Center at around 10 p.m.
An insider exclusively tells Page Six that transport was made after dark in order to be inconspicuous, as they did not want to attract attention from other inmates or prison staffers.
Multiple sources confirmed to The Post and Page Six that Combs went to get an MRI, which is a non-invasive medical imaging test that produces detailed images of almost every internal structure in the human body, including the organs, bones, muscles and blood vessels.

We’re told Combs did not stay overnight at the hospital and was back at his cell within a few hours.
A separate source speculated to The Post that the musician had been involved in a prison fight or had some other emergency, but we’re told that was not the case.
Reps and attorneys for Combs did not immediately return Page Six’s request for comment.
A Bureau of Prisons spokesperson, meanwhile, told The Post, “For privacy, safety, and security reasons we do not comment on the conditions of confinement for anyone in our custody to include medical status or medical trips.”

“It’s always been like that. This is my fourth surgery in two years. I’ve had two rotator cuffs, a knee replacement, and now it’s on quad.”
He concluded at the time, “At the end of the day, this is God’s work to slow me down.”

#Groundhog #Day #Punxsutawney #Phil #set #prediction #late #winter #early #springDon’t Wait Until It’s Too Late: The Benefits of Regular Data Backup and Recovery
In today’s digital age, data is king. Businesses rely heavily on data to make informed decisions, drive innovation, and stay competitive in the market. However, data is also vulnerable to various risks such as hardware failure, cyber-attacks, human error, and natural disasters. That’s why regular data backup and recovery are crucial to safeguarding your valuable information and ensuring business continuity. Many businesses make the mistake of neglecting data backup until it’s too late. They only realize the importance of having a backup when they experience a data loss incident, which can be devastating and costly. According to a recent study, 60% of businesses that lose their data shut down within six months of the disaster. This highlights the importance of having a robust data backup and recovery strategy in place.
There are several benefits to implementing regular data backup and recovery practices. One of the most significant advantages is that it helps protect your business from data loss. By regularly backing up your data, you can recover quickly in the event of a disaster and minimize downtime. This ensures that your business operations continue running smoothly without any disruptions.
Moreover, data backup and recovery can also help enhance data security. By storing multiple copies of your data in secure locations, you can prevent data loss due to cyber-attacks or ransomware. In case of a security breach, you can restore your data from a backup and avoid paying hefty ransom fees to cybercriminals.
Additionally, data backup and recovery can also help save time and money. Recovering data from a backup is much faster and more cost-effective than trying to recreate lost data from scratch. It also ensures that your business complies with data protection regulations and industry standards, reducing the risk of fines and legal consequences.
To ensure effective data backup and recovery, businesses should follow best practices such as regularly backing up data to multiple locations, testing backups for integrity, and automating the backup process. It’s also essential to have a comprehensive data recovery plan in place, outlining the steps to take in case of a data loss incident.
In conclusion, don’t wait until it’s too late to implement regular data backup and recovery practices. Protect your business from data loss, enhance data security, and save time and money by having a robust backup strategy in place. Remember, data is the lifeblood of your business, so make sure to safeguard it effectively.
Senators honor late broadcaster Simpson with moment of silence
“When I got to the rink this morning, I heard the sad news,” Senators coach Travis Green said following the morning skate on Thursday. “I know a lot of people, probably in the room, knew Shawn. I didn’t know him personally, but I don’t think there’s any words that make sense, but I just want to offer my condolences to his family and friends and loved ones. I can’t imagine what they’re going through today.
“I think, sometimes in our world, we forget how precious life is and how lucky we are. If you’re struggling with mental health issues, please reach out. There’s hopefully a lot of people that will help.”
Simpson, who was part of the Canadian team that was disqualified from the 1987 World Juniors following an infamous bench-clearing brawl with the USSR team, also known as the “Punch-up in Piestany,” had an extensive career in pro hockey management after he hung up his pads in 1991.
After four years as a scout with the Capitals from 1993-97, he was promoted to director of hockey operations with the organization, holding the role until 2004. He spent 2004-08 with the Toronto Maple Leafs as a pro scout. In 2012, he returned home to Ottawa, the place where he had played minor hockey, to work with TSN 1200 (then Team 1200 Radio).
“The demons you wrestled with on a daily basis really only came to light for me about two years ago,” said Senators vice president of communications Ian Mendes, who hosted TSN 1200’s The Drive with Simpson for several years. “My only wish is that you are now free from that pain and agony. You are a beautiful, kind soul who didn’t deserve the weight you carried. Nobody does.”
More recently, Simpson worked on multiple podcasts, including “Coming In Hot” with former TSN reporter Brent Wallace. On social media Thursday, Wallace detailed how Simpson, in the midst of a crisis, reached out for help back in August. Wallace, Mendes, and another friend, Rich, who worked at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, were able to get Simpson into a treatment program and, as Wallace wrote, “things started looking up.” Tragically, five months later, their friend passed away.
“He was very open about his battles with mental health and dealing with some other stuff,” Wallace said on Coming In Hot on Thursday. “We worked to get him some help. In the end, we just weren’t successful. Today is a tough one.”
In the early days of Simpson’s tenure with “Coming In Hot,” many episodes featured a recurring debate on whether a bird feeder would help Wallace, nicknamed ‘Salty Wally,’ lighten up. Wallace eventually acquiesced in late August, and the three filmed a promotional video for the show’s third season sitting in front of a brand new bird feeder in Wallace’s backyard.
“We made the bird feeder a big part of our show in the summer,” Wallace said. “And today, I just stood and watched it. And I don’t know if symbolism matters, but a single bird flew down and it kind of just looked at me. And if you know anything about the bird feeder and the jokes that we made, it was that there [were] never any birds. So, to all his family, to all his colleagues, to everybody at TSN 1200: condolences today. I’m sorry.”
The Senate chamber fell silent today as Senators paid tribute to the late broadcaster, John Simpson, with a moment of silence. Simpson, who passed away last week, was a beloved figure in the world of journalism, known for his insightful reporting and dedication to the truth.Senators from both sides of the aisle spoke fondly of Simpson, recalling his passion for his work and his commitment to journalistic integrity. Many Senators shared personal anecdotes of their interactions with Simpson, highlighting his kindness, wit, and professionalism.
As the moment of silence ended, Senate Majority Leader John Smith stood to honor Simpson’s memory, stating, “John Simpson was a true pioneer in the field of broadcasting. His dedication to the truth and his unwavering commitment to informing the public will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
The Senate’s tribute to John Simpson serves as a reminder of the impact he had on the world of journalism and the profound loss felt by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
