Staying Ahead of the Curve: The Latest Trends in IT Solutions for Businesses

In today’s fast-paced digital world, staying ahead of the curve when it comes to IT solutions is crucial for businesses looking to remain competitive and innovative. With technology constantly evolving and changing, it’s important for companies to stay up-to-date on the latest trends in IT solutions in order to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and drive growth.

One of the biggest trends in IT solutions for businesses is cloud computing. Cloud computing allows companies to access and store data and applications over the internet, rather than on a physical server or computer. This not only reduces costs associated with hardware and maintenance, but also provides greater flexibility and scalability for businesses of all sizes. With the ability to access information from anywhere at any time, cloud computing is becoming increasingly popular among businesses looking to improve collaboration and productivity.

Another trend in IT solutions for businesses is artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. AI and machine learning technologies are being used to automate repetitive tasks, analyze data, and make predictions based on patterns and trends. This can help businesses make more informed decisions, improve customer service, and personalize experiences for customers. From chatbots to predictive analytics, AI and machine learning are revolutionizing the way businesses operate and interact with their customers.

Cybersecurity is also a top priority for businesses when it comes to IT solutions. With the rise of cyber threats and data breaches, companies are investing in advanced security measures to protect sensitive information and maintain the trust of their customers. From encryption and multi-factor authentication to security monitoring and incident response, businesses are taking proactive steps to safeguard their data and systems from cyber attacks.

Lastly, the Internet of Things (IoT) is another trend in IT solutions that is reshaping the way businesses operate. IoT refers to the network of physical devices, vehicles, appliances, and other objects that are embedded with sensors, software, and connectivity to exchange data and communicate with each other. This allows businesses to collect real-time data, automate processes, and improve efficiency in various industries, from manufacturing and healthcare to retail and transportation.

In conclusion, staying ahead of the curve when it comes to IT solutions is essential for businesses looking to thrive in today’s digital economy. By embracing cloud computing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and IoT technologies, companies can drive innovation, improve operations, and deliver value to their customers. By staying informed and adapting to the latest trends in IT solutions, businesses can position themselves for success in the ever-evolving digital landscape.

  • JAY-Z’s Latest Retaliatory Attack Against Tony Buzbee For Rape Lawsuit Claims He “Got Basic Facts Wrong”

In a year where Diddy was public enemy No. 1 for his allegations, lawsuits, and eventual arrest, JAY-Z also found himself in the mix via a rape lawsuit filed in December 2024. The 55-year-old rapper has been hellbent on tearing down Tony Buzbee’s, the lawyer representing his alleged victim, credibility and he continued that this week.

Earlier in January, Hov attempted to get his case dismissed and he recently filed a memo to add some more details. HipHopDX obtained documents where the Brooklyn rapper and his attorney Alex Spiro claimed that Buzbee “got basic facts wrong” in the case.

Specifically, they say that the unnamed victim’s father confirmed that he had no recollection of the rape story playing out how she told it; Jane Doe originally said her father picked her up from a gas station, but he said the gas station in question would have been a 10-hour drive roundtrip. They also cited how she claimed she spoke with a celebrity that evening at the 2000 Video Music Awards, but said celebrity was not even in New York City at the time.

“Mr. Carter seeks only to hold Mr. Buzbee to the ethical standards that constrain any responsible attorney who would solemnly sign his name to allegations in court,” Alex Spiro wrote. He is arguing that Tony Buzbee should be held liable for either not doing his due diligence, or having proper information and still going through with a false claim.

Buzbee, however, claims that he ran a background check on Jane Doe and collaborated with a retired police detective to do thorough research on her. However, Spiro countered and said these claims were not enough. “[N]one of those individuals has even been named, let alone produced as a declarant,” he wrote. “Nor does the Opposition specify which ‘aspects’ of Plaintiff’s complaint were ‘fact-checked.’”

Buzbee remains confident in the case, telling HipHopDX: “With every frantic filing the defense in this case grows more desperate. The rules apply equally to everyone, even those who wrongly think they are above the law. No one is above the law. The ‘basic fact’ that is obvious to everyone is that the defendant’s motion is frivolous.”

JAY-Z was accused of raping a teenager alongside Diddy in 2000. She allegedly was transported to one of the Bad Boy founder’s after-parties by one of his limo drivers following the 2000 VMAs. Upon arrival, she signed what she believed to be an NDA and then allegedly had her drink spiked. She claims that the rappers then entered the room and Hov pinned her down and had sex with her while Puff and another celebrity watched.

In a recent turn of events, JAY-Z has fired back at Tony Buzbee, the attorney representing the women accusing him of sexual assault, claiming that Buzbee has “got basic facts wrong” in his lawsuit against the rapper.

In a statement released by JAY-Z’s legal team, they refuted Buzbee’s claims and stated that they are confident in their client’s innocence. The statement also accused Buzbee of using the lawsuit as a means of gaining publicity and tarnishing JAY-Z’s reputation.

This latest retaliatory attack comes after Buzbee filed a lawsuit on behalf of multiple women who allege that JAY-Z sexually assaulted them. The lawsuit has garnered significant media attention and has raised questions about the rapper’s behavior.

It remains to be seen how this legal battle will unfold, but one thing is for certain: JAY-Z is not backing down without a fight. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • NBA Trade Season Latest: Brandon Ingram

Three All-Stars of recent vintage were widely projected to be the starriest protagonists of this NBA Trade Season.

    Miami’s Jimmy Butler.

    Chicago’s Zach LaVine.

    And New Orleans’ Brandon Ingram.

Ingram, though, has been sidelined by an ankle injury since early December and wasn’t generating much trade buzz even before he got hurt, while the futures of Butler and LaVine — Butler’s especially for obvious reasons — have been a near-daily source of discussion for league observers and the basketball public.

Jimmy Trade Watch is obviously in overdrive now after Butler was suspended by his team for the third time, but that landscape might finally be shifting a bit.

The latest buzz in the NBA trade season surrounds Brandon Ingram. With rumors swirling about potential suitors and possible trade scenarios, fans are eagerly anticipating what the future holds for the young star.

His scoring ability, versatility, and length make him a coveted asset for many teams in need of a dynamic wing player.

As the trade deadline approaches, teams are exploring all options to make a move for Ingram. Whether he stays put with the Pelicans or finds himself in a new city, one thing is for certain – his impact on the court will be felt wherever he goes.

  • A state of ‘purgatory’: John Collins reacts to latest trade rumors as deadline looms

SALT LAKE CITY — John Collins tries to avoid the NBA news at this time of year.

At this point, how could he not? It’s become an annual tradition to see his name floating around the trade market; a rite of passage that the NBA season is entering the second half of the season.

So while he’s heard whispers and rumors over the last few weeks, he hadn’t yet heard the latest report: He was apparently pretty close to being a Sacramento King.

According to Kings beat reporter James Han, things were so close that the Kings had actually told players they were on the move but didn’t ultimately pull the trigger.

“I definitely didn’t hear that,” Collins said. “Whatever Sacramento is doing there, that’s their prerogative, if it involves me or not. Obviously, I would have found out, but I’m kind of happy I just didn’t have that news. Nothing against Sacramento, just kind of happy I didn’t have that news in my phone. So, you know, just got to continue to be the best professional I can be and continue playing basketball.”

Collins is having a standout year in his second season with the Jazz, averaging 18.1 points, 8.4 rebounds and shooting 44.6% from 3-point range. He’s also passing at a much higher rate and has been used as a creator against mismatches to pretty good success.

Those are all things that should pique the interest of teams with the trade deadline looming next Thursday. The Kings and Warriors have both been heavily mentioned in talks — and a team like the Lakers, Nuggets or Spurs could make some sense, too.

So what does he think of moving to a team further up the standings?

On one hand, such a move would offer a better chance to compete in the playoffs. On the other, it’s still an unknown situation. And that comfort is important to Collins — as evidenced by his play this season after an inconsistent first year with the Jazz.

“This is not an easy thing mentally to think about whether it might be a better situation or worse situation, or whatever situation is out there — it’s not my current one,” he said. “So it’s hard for me to think about that and focus. So I just try not to think about it. Just try to be the best pro I can. Because I really have no control over when or where that is to. Whenever that would happen, I have to restart again.”

Though, there are times he lets the NBA fan in him come out — feeling the excitement of the trade season.

“In a weird way, sometimes it’s fun,” he said. “Sometimes I feel like a kid.”

But reality usually sets in shortly after.

“It just puts you in a little bit of a purgatory — you’re just in a little bit of a mundane (state) and don’t know how to feel,” he said.

But that’s been his basketball life over the last few years.

“It’s been a part of my career and something I’ve had to deal with,” Collins said. “So it just is what it is. And again, I will continue to be the best pro I can be while I’m here. whatever happens to happen. Again, I have no control.”

As the NBA trade deadline approaches, Philadelphia 76ers forward John Collins finds himself in a state of uncertainty. Rumors have been swirling about potential trades involving Collins, leaving him in what he describes as a state of ‘purgatory’.

In a recent interview, Collins expressed his frustration with the ongoing trade speculation, stating that it has been a distraction for him and his teammates. He emphasized his desire to stay with the 76ers and continue to contribute to the team’s success.

Collins acknowledged that trade rumors are a part of the business of professional sports, but he admitted that it has been difficult to focus on his game with all the uncertainty surrounding his future. Despite the challenges, Collins remains committed to giving his best effort on the court and helping the 76ers compete at the highest level.

As the trade deadline looms, Collins is hopeful that a resolution will come soon, whether it involves him staying with the 76ers or moving on to a new team. In the meantime, he is doing his best to stay focused and prepare for whatever comes next in his NBA career.

  • Latest In Growing ‘It Ends With Us’ Feud’

    Topline

Blake Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds, both defendants in a sweeping lawsuit from her “It Ends With Us” director and co-star Justin Baldoni, have told a federal judge they plan to ask for the suit to be dismissed days before their respective lawyers are expected to attend their first pre-trial conference in a legal battle that includes accusations of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment on the set of the film. (Here are in-depth explanations for Lively’s claims and Baldoni’s claims.)

    Timeline

Jan. 30, 2025Lawyers for Lively and Reynolds said in a letter to New York federal judge Lewis J. Liman that they plan to move to dismiss the lawsuit filed against them at a pre-trial conference scheduled for Monday, Feb. 3.

Jan. 29, 2025The Hollywood Reporter cited unnamed sources in reporting Baldoni has “lost three jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars” since Lively first filed suit against him in December and that an in-the-works “Pac-Man” movie project he was set to direct is now in jeopardy.

Jan. 27, 2025Liman told Lively and Baldoni’s lawyers to prepare for a March 9, 2026 trial date and set a pretrial conference to discuss, among other things, complaints from Lively’s team about the conduct of Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman. Lively’s lawyers have claimed Freedman is trying to paint potential jurors by creating a website to release communication between the two actors and documents from set, and accused him of making an “endless stream of defamatory and extrajudicial media statements.”

Jan. 27, 2025 The Daily Mail first published a nearly seven-minute voice note it says Baldoni sent to Lively at 2 a.m. during the filming of “It Ends With Us,” in which he allegedly apologizes for not being open enough to script changes she made, admits he is a “a very flawed man” and makes a reference to her breastfeeding her then-newborn child.

Jan. 21, 2025Baldoni’s legal team countered Lively’s claims that he acted inappropriately while filming a slow dancing scene for the film by releasing a 10-minute video from set that includes three takes of the same scene, which Baldoni’s team says is the entirety of the footage shot for that scene, during which Lively alleged in a lawsuit Baldoni “leaned forward and slowly dragged his lips from her ear and down her neck as he said, ‘it smells so good.’” The footage shows a similar interaction, where Baldoni is seen nuzzling Lively’s neck, and she says, “I’m probably getting spray-tan on you,” to which he responds, “It smells good.” Lively’s team says the footage fully corroborates her account, and “any woman who has been inappropriately touched in the workplace will recognize Ms. Lively’s discomfort.” Baldoni’s lawyers said the footage proves both actors clearly behaved “well within the scope of the scene and with mutual respect and professionalism.”

Jan. 16, 2025Baldoni filed a federal lawsuit in New York against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, her publicist Leslie Sloane and Sloane’s firm Vision PR alleging his co-star “tormented” him, his family and his partners, falsely accused him of sexual harassment and used him as a “scapegoat” to dodge the negative press surrounding. He also pushed back on claims he sexually harassed her, instead claiming she “calculatingly devised” fake stories to destroy his reputation and livelihood, seized control of the film he was directing and set out to damage his career and Wayfarer Studios “if they did not bend to her incessant demands” (Here’s more on Baldoni’s lawsuit).

Jan. 10, 2025Deadline reported Baldoni’s former publicist Stephanie Jones, who sued the actor and a handful of others for defamation and breach of contract in December, has issued subpoenas to WhatsApp, Signal, website hosts Hostinger and Name Cheap, digital publishing platform AnyFlip and chatbot company Gab AI in attempts to discover who may have been behind posts and websites aimed at harming Lively and Baldoni’s reputations.

Jan. 10, 2025Paul Feig, who directed Lively’s upcoming film “A Simple Favor 2,” responded to viral rumors the film had been shelved “indefinitely,” partially due to the Lively/Baldoni legal battle, calling it “total BS” and confirming the film “is finished and coming out soon.”

Jan. 8, 2025In an interview with Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, TMZ founder Harvey Levin said about the co-stars’ competing accusations about online campaigns to damage one another’s reputation: “Both sides tried to skew this story. We’ve been on the recipient end of that … It has happened on both sides in the Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni war. Both sides.” Freedman responded by saying, “That’s good to know.” (In recent days, Freedman has denied Lively’s allegations that she faced a smear campaign by Baldoni’s PR team, claiming Lively’s team was instead working to smear Baldoni.)

Jan. 7, 2025Freedman appeared on Megyn Kelly’s YouTube show to discuss Baldoni’s plans to sue Lively “into oblivion” and pushed back on several of the actresses’ allegations, accusing Lively of not reading the source material for the film, refuting claims she was sexually harassed and accusing her of orchestrating her own smear campaign against Baldoni. The interview also included newly released sound from a voice note from Baldoni explaining that he was “sent to the basement” of the film’s premiere because Lively “didn’t want me anywhere near her or the rest of the cast” (Here’s more on what Freedman said on Kelly’s show.)

Jan. 3, 2025Freedman told NBC’s “Today” he “absolutely” plans to file suit against Lively after she alleged she was subjected to “sexually inappropriate behavior” by Baldoni on the set of their 2024 film, but wouldn’t say exactly what the countersuit would allege, though denied Lively’s claim that Baldoni and his team launched a smear campaign against the actress.

Dec. 31, 2024Baldoni filed a $250 million libel lawsuit against The New York Times for the paper’s reporting on Lively’s allegations, accusing the outlet of having “cowered to the wants and whims of two powerful ‘untouchable’ Hollywood elites”—Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds.

Dec. 31, 2024Lively formally filed a lawsuit in New York federal court against Baldoni, his publicist, Wayfarer Studios and other defendants for “retaliating against her for reporting sexual harassment and workplace safety concerns.”

Dec. 24, 2024Baldoni was sued by his ex-publicist, Stephanie Jones, over an alleged conspiracy to discredit her and steal her clients.

Dec. 24, 2024Vital Voices, a nonprofit that focuses on empowering women, rescinded an award it gave to Baldoni, who has made a career expressing his support of women’s stories and co-hosted a podcast about masculinity called “Man Enough,” which his co-host pulled out of the same day.

Dec. 20, 2024Lively filed a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department claiming Baldoni invaded her privacy by “entering her makeup trailer uninvited while she was undressed,” pressured her to lose weight four months after giving birth and coordinated a PR campaign with a crisis firm “designed to ‘destroy’ Ms. Lively’s reputation.”

What Did Justin Baldoni Say In A Supposed Voice Note To Blake Lively?

The message, which was obtained by the Daily Mail and has since gone viral on TikTok, appears to be Baldoni apologizing for his reception to changes Lively proposed for a scene in “It Ends With Us.” Baldoni says his reaction to the changes “fell short” and thanked her for telling him how she was feeling about his response, according to the newspaper. “I f***ed up, that is a fail on my part,” he appears to say. “One thing you should know about me is that I am willing to apologize when I fail… I am a very flawed man, as my wife will attest.” Baldoni then appears to talk for almost another five minutes, in which he says there is “nothing more exciting to me” than working with Lively. The message does not specifically say which scene Baldoni is referring to but his lawsuit against Lively mentions tension over a rooftop scene in the film that Lively rewrote and presented to Baldoni as her own work before telling media outlets that her husband, Reynolds, actually wrote it.

    Key Background

Baldoni directed and co-starred with Lively in “It Ends With Us,” the movie adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling book of the same name, which released last August. Rumors of a rift developing between Lively and Baldoni during post-production began to emerge around the movie’s release, and were further fueled during the film’s press tour when Lively appeared to avoid mention of Baldoni in interviews. Speculation emerged that there were disputes over creative control and sources told TMZ Baldoni had “fat-shamed” Lively by inquiring about her weight, telling an on-set trainer he wanted to avoid injury while lifting the actress in the movie. Baldoni and Lively were never photographed together while promoting “It Ends With Us.” As rumors of a feud grew, Baldoni hired Melissa Nathan, a crisis PR manager who represented Johnny Depp in his defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard. According to texts published by The New York Times, Nathan suggested plans including “full social take downs” by creating “threads of theories” and planting pieces in the media of “how horrible Blake is to work with.” Lively said the alleged smear campaign had caused “severe emotional distress” for her and her family, prompting her to back out of hosting the “Saturday Night Live” season 50 premiere.

How Were These Text Messages From Baldoni Released?

Lively’s initial complaint included excerpts from thousands of pages of text messages and emails, which were the main focus of the Times article at the center of Baldoni’s lawsuit. The text messages were largely between Baldoni, his publicist Jennifer Abel and crisis management expert Melissa Nathan, and were obtained through a civil subpoena, Lively’s complaint said. A lawsuit filed by Baldoni’s ex-publicist Stephanie Jones, the founder of the Jonesworks publicity firm, days later revealed she was the source of the text messages, which were obtained from Abel’s work phone. In her own lawsuit against Baldoni, Jones claimed Abel was fired for conspiring to steal clients from her firm and Jones later had Abel’s company-issued phone “forensically preserved and examined in detail.” Lively’s team then obtained the texts through a subpoena against Jonesworks. The texts show discussions on how to coordinate a social media campaign against Lively, and how Baldoni wanted to feel like Lively “can be buried” under negative media. The messages show the trio talking about the “shift on social” against Lively, and reveal that Baldoni was aware of the negative messaging against her. Messages from Baldoni also show him encouraging the P.R. team, flagging social media posts for them to use and, in one case, suggesting “flipping the narrative” on a positive story about Lively and Reynolds, according to The Times. In other messages, he reiterates that the campaign needs to be untraceable.

    Surprising Fact

Around the time of the “It Ends With Us” premiere, Lively was the subject of intense criticism online targeting how she promoted the film, the opportune release of her haircare line and other behaviors. In one promotional video, Lively encourages the audience to “grab your friends, wear your florals and head out to see (the movie).” Fans instantly criticized Lively’s upbeat tone and claimed she was attempting to promote the movie as a lighthearted love story, cheapening the movie’s serious take on domestic abuse. Comments on the video attacked Lively—”shame on you and your PR team for turning a blind eye,” one said—but praised Baldoni for how he handled promotion. Lively was also criticized for seeming to promote her newly launched hair-care line, Blake Brown, off the back of the film, but it was later revealed that the two were never supposed to launch at the same time. Production delays caused by Hollywood strikes in 2023 pushed the premiere of “It Ends With Us,” then coinciding with the predetermined launch date of the brand. At the same time, Lively was freshly criticized for her reaction to an interviewer in a resurfaced 2016 clip. Lively’s lawsuits claim the public’s attacks were part of the smear campaign she says was orchestrated against her.

    Tangent

A number of celebrities have come out to support Lively since she filed her initial complaint, including Hoover, Lively’s “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” co-stars and actress Amber Heard, who claimed to be a victim of a similar social media takedown. Hoover, who The Times reported also refused to do press with Baldoni, posted to Instagram after Lively first made her allegations to call her “nothing but honest, kind, supportive and patient.” America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel and Amber Tamblyn, who starred alongside Lively in her 2005 breakout role in “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” slammed the “vindictive effort ensued to discredit her voice” and Heard said she has seen similar social media campaigns “firsthand and up close,” calling it “horrifying and destructive.” Actresses Kate Beckinsale and Abigail Breslin shared their own stories of harassment and retaliation in the wake of Lively’s lawsuit, and director Paul Feig posted that Lively “did not deserve any of this smear campaign.” Lively’s “It Ends with Us” costar Brandon Sklenar posted a link to the initial New York Times story and Jenny Slate, another co-star in the film, said she stands by her “loyal friend.” Amy Schumer posted a story on Instagram that said, “I believe Blake.” Political influencer Candace Owens posted in support of Baldoni after he was stripped of his Vital Voices award, writing that he should “have his day in court” before such drastic measures are taken.

The drama continues to unfold in the growing feud surrounding the bestselling novel “It Ends With Us” by Colleen Hoover. With tensions running high among fans and critics alike, it seems that the controversy shows no signs of slowing down.

One of the latest developments in the feud involves a heated debate on social media over the portrayal of the main characters and the sensitive subject matter addressed in the book. Some readers have expressed their dissatisfaction with how certain themes were handled, while others have come to the defense of the author and the story she has crafted.

As the debate rages on, it raises important questions about the role of literature in addressing difficult topics and the responsibilities of authors in presenting them. With strong opinions on both sides, it seems that this feud is far from over.

  • Injury and fitness news: Latest on Joe Gomez, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez

    Published

    By Sam Williams

Joe Gomez, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez will train on Friday but no decision has yet been made on their availability for Liverpool’s game against AFC Bournemouth.

Gomez has missed the Reds’ last eight matches because of a hamstring injury, while Jota has not featured since scoring the equaliser in the 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest in mid-January.

Nunez, meanwhile, was ruled out of Wednesday’s loss at PSV Eindhoven due to illness and Arne Slot was asked on Friday morning whether the trio are ready to return in Saturday’s Premier League visit to Vitality Stadium.

The head coach told the media: “All three of them are in training today so then the question is, ‘Are they already far enough to join us towards Bournemouth?’

“That’s something we have to wait and see today because we have probably also more than 20 players available. We always have more than 20 available but the ones that are mostly there.

“So, we have to make the smartest decision for them, but also for winning the game tomorrow.”

Injury and fitness news: Latest on Joe Gomez, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is set to miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a serious knee injury during a training session. The 24-year-old underwent surgery and is expected to be out of action for several months.

Meanwhile, Diogo Jota is nearing a return to full fitness after being sidelined with a foot injury. The Portuguese forward has been training with the team and could be available for selection in the coming weeks.

Benfica striker Darwin Nunez is also on the road to recovery after suffering a muscle injury. The Uruguayan international is working hard to regain his fitness and is hopeful of returning to action soon.

Stay tuned for more updates on these players as they continue their rehabilitation and aim to make a successful comeback on the field.

The so-called “black box” from the Black Hawk helicopter, which collided with a passenger jet in Washington, D.C., has now been recovered, according to the National Transport Safety Board.

Both boxes from the American Airlines aircraft were previously found, and all three devices will now be taken for analysis, NTSB spokesman Todd Inman said on Friday.

Speaking about the helicopter’s black box, he said: “I can tell you from a visual inspection, we saw no exterior damage that would indicate that it was compromised at this time. So we have a high level of confidence that we will be able to have a full extraction.”

As of Friday morning, 41 bodies had been recovered, officials said, including the three service members on the Black Hawk. All 67 people involved in the crash are presumed dead.

Elsewhere, Jo Ellis, a Black Hawk pilot with the Virginia Army National Guard who is transgender, was falsely identified as the captain flying the U.S. military helicopter.

“I understand some people have associated me with the crash in D.C. and that is false. It is insulting to the families to try to tie this to some sort of political agenda,” she said in a Facebook video with the caption: “proof of life.”

Black Hawk helicopter was on a ‘continuity of government’ training flight

The Black Hawk helicopter that collided with a passenger jet in Washington on Wednesday was on a training flight along a route core to a seldom-discussed military mission to evacuate senior officials to safety in the event of an attack on the U.S., officials say.

The military mission, known as “continuity of government” and “continuity of operations,” is meant to preserve the ability of the U.S. government to operate.

Most days, crews like the one killed on Wednesday transport VIPs around Washington, which is buzzing with helicopter traffic.

But U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth disclosed the Black Hawk crew’s ties to the mission during a White House press conference on Thursday, saying they “were on a routine, annual re-training of night flights on a standard corridor for a continuity of government mission.”

Still, little of such missions is publicly discussed.

The three soldiers killed in the collision were part of the 12th Aviation Battalion at Fort Belvoir in Virginia, whose responsibilities in a national crisis include evacuating Pentagon officials. Another 64 people were killed in the passenger plane.

Is flying really safer than driving? What the stats show after devastating Washington D.C. plane crash

Recovery efforts are ongoing for dozens of bodies in the Potomac River, where the remnants of the American Airlines flight and the US army Black Hawk helicopter lie after the January 29 disaster.

Officials in the US have sought to reassure citizens that flying is safe. Transport secretary Sean Duffy insisted that passengers should be “assured” that flying is a safe mode of transport in a press conference on Thursday morning.

Who is Jo Ellis, the transgender pilot wrongly named in DC crash?

Jo Ellis’s record of service in the Virginia National Guard appears to be nothing but honorable.

She served in Iraq as a helicopter door gunner, then in Kuwait as part of the multi-national fight against the Islamic State. And in 2023, with the support of her commanders, she began medically transitioning to female.

Issue around shortage of tower controllers highlighted by crash

The crash has shone a spotlight on concerns about air safety and a shortage of tower controllers at the heavily congested airport that serves the U.S. capital.

The FAA is about 3,000 controllers behind staffing targets. The agency said in 2023 that it had 10,700 certified controllers, about the same as a year earlier.

One controller rather than two was handling local plane and helicopter traffic on Wednesday at the airport, a situation deemed “not normal” but considered adequate for lower volumes of traffic, according to a person briefed on the matter. Duffy on Thursday vowed to reform the FAA.

Airspace is crowded around the Washington area, home to three commercial airports, multiple military bases and some senior government officials who are ferried around by helicopter.

Over a three-year period ending in 2019, there was an average of 80 helicopter flights per day within 30 miles (48 km) of Reagan National Airport, with the majority either military or law enforcement flights, according to a 2021 Government Accountability Office report.

Philadelphia plane crash: What we know so far after Learjet crash goes down in huge explosion near mall

The aircraft came down just after 6 p.m. local time near the Roosevelt Mall, damaging several homes and vehicles. Shocking footage showed a large mushroom-shaped fireball shooting into the sky.

City law enforcement quickly declared the crash a “major incident” and urged residents to stay away from the area.

The National Transportation Safety Board have conducted interviews with air traffic controllers, member Todd Inman said, including the lone controller working inside Reagan’s tower at the time of the crash on Wednesday.

Authorities have not identified a cause, and Inman said the board would not engage in speculation before completing its investigation.

“The NTSB is an independent, bipartisan board – 58 years as the gold standard. Our job is to find the facts, but more importantly, our job is to make sure this tragedy doesn’t happen again, regardless of what anyone may be saying,” Inman said, adding that he had not spoken to President Donald Trump or anyone at the White House.

Attorney killed in crash had been ‘super excited’ for her birthday drinks

Elizabeth Anne Keys, an attorney, had traveled to Wichita on a business trip and was worried she might not be able to celebrate her 33rd birthday back in Washington with her longtime partner, David Seidman.

But her work meeting wrapped up with time to spare, allowing her to catch the flight on her birthday and make plans for the couple to get drinks late that night, Seidman said.

Keys, a native of Cincinnati, and Seidman, from New York, met as law students at Washington’s Georgetown University. The capital became their city, and Keys was endlessly energetic as they explored it together.

She played the saxophone, oboe and bassoon in high school and was on the sailing team in college. She loved taking ski trips out West, hiking in Hawaii and entertaining friends around the fire pit at her home, her family said.

Seidman said he had never skied until she encouraged him to give it a shot. She wanted to try golf next, and they were planning to take lessons.”It was like that for everything,” he said. “She was nonstop all the time.”

The moments Grace Maxwell shared with her grandfather over the years were “his greatest joy.” And a trip home to Wichita, Kansas, allowed the 20-year-old to be by his side one final time.

Maxwell, a mechanical engineering major, was returning to college just a day after her grandfather’s funeral when she and 66 others were killed in Wednesday’s collision between an American Airlines jet and an Army helicopter over Washington, D.C.

As Maxwell’s classmates filled the pews of Cedarville University’s chapel Friday, they joined others mourning the singular lives lost and grasping to make sense of the random circumstances that put friends and loved ones in harm’s way Wednesday night.

“Can you imagine losing a parent and seven days later losing a child?” Cedarville’s president, Thomas White, said to those assembled at the university in southwestern Ohio.

Maxwell was known on campus for her devotion to helping others, working this semester on making a hand-stabilizing device to help a disabled boy feed himself and chipping in at the student radio station, the school said.

“We don’t know why a young, bright, shining star was taken from us way too soon,” White said.

Mechanical failure or human error? What might’ve caused the D.C. plane crash that killed 67 people

The fatal midair collision on Wednesday evening between an Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines passenger jet moments away from landing at Washington, D.C.’s Reagan National Airport was a shocking and extremely rare occurrence, according to experts who believe human error is the likeliest explanation behind the tragedy that claimed dozens of lives.

  • Transfer news LIVE! Tel wants Man Utd after snubbing Spurs, Garnacho latest, Villa eye Rashford, Chelsea chase Ferguson

‘Watkins is our striker’ – Emery reacts to Villa’s evening of transfer speculation

Arsenal target Ollie Watkins is “happy to stay” at Aston Villa after Jhon Duran was sold to Saudi club Al-Nassr in a £64m deal before the transfer deadline.

The Gunners were preparing a spectacular second bid the England international after an an opening offer was rejected, with Arsenal desperate to sign a striker before Monday’s deadline. But Duran’s move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr may end Arsenal’s hopes as Aston Villa are unlikely to sell both strikers this month.

Meanwhile, Mathys Tel has sent Premier League clubs into a frenzy but telling Bayern Munich that he wants to leave. Tottenham have agreed a £50m deal but Manchester United believe they hold an advantage that could prove decisive in the race with Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs – who Tel is reported to have rejected.

That may depend on selling Alejandro Garnacho, however, with United setting Chelsea a new price for the 20-year-old Argentina winger. Marcus Rashford is also searching for a move away from Old Trafford, but only one club looks like a possible option this January.

Rodri’s injury highlights Man City and Arsenal’s key difference in pursuit of glory

It isn’t often Pep Guardiola wishes he had suffered defeat. But as he looks back four months, to what now looks the moment Manchester City’s era of dominance came to an abrupt end, he said: “I would have preferred to lose that game and have Rodri all season, absolutely.”

Guardiola didn’t lose the game in question. John Stones’ 98th-minute equaliser against Arsenal in September seemed colossal in the context of the title race. Not now: or only in the way points have tended to escape Arsenal’s grasp. It was the second of seven games this season they have drawn after leading, despite a heroic defensive display in the second half.

For City, however, the seismic setback had nothing to do with the scoreline. Penalty shootouts aside, they lost a lone game in which Rodri appeared last season: the FA Cup final. They have lost 10 this season: none in the first month after the Spaniard was sidelined, then in a flurry.

Tel wants Man Utd loan move

The 19-year-old Bayern Munich forward is a wanted man this winter, but he has rejected a £50m transfer to Tottenham and reports say he is keen on Old Trafford as a short-term destination.

Bayern would like to keep Tel, but he wants to depart for more playing time after a fading role under Vincent Kompany this season.

“Mathys can imagine a move away. We need to come to terms with the facts,” said Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl this week.

“Whether it’s a loan or a sale, we’ll see. It needs to be right for all parties. Will we do it? Our squad is very well set up.”

Chelsea sign England star Keira Walsh from Barcelona

Chelsea have signed England midfielder Keira Walsh from Barcelona on a four-and-a-half-year deal, the Women’s Super League club said on Friday, with the 27-year-old keen to move closer to her family.

The move marks a return to English football for Walsh after two-and-a-half years with the Spanish club having joined Barcelona from Manchester City in Sept. 2022 for a then world record fee in women’s soccer of 400,000 pounds ($495,920.00).

“I’ll be honest, I didn’t realise how difficult it would be to be away from my family and friends when I went abroad,” Walsh said on Chelsea’s official website.

“It’s no secret that I wanted to come and wanted to play closer to my friends and family. Just having my family back in the stands, it’s something I’ve just wanted for a long time.”

Walsh had been with City since 2014, where she had won one WSL title and three FA Cups, and at Barcelona won eight trophies at Barcelona including two Champions League titles and two Spanish league wins.

The midfielder has made 80 appearances for England, winning Euro 2022 and a runner-up at the World Cup in 2023 and joins a Chelsea team who have a seven-point lead over Manchester United in the WSL, and their next game is at Aston Villa on Sunday.

The signing comes just days after Chelsea made Naomi Girma the first female million-dollar player, signing the United States defender to a for a world-record transfer fee reported by British media to be in the region of 900,000 pounds.

Spurs loan Lankshear to West Brom

Will Lankshear has joined West Brom on loan from Tottenham until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old striker has made six first-team appearances for Spurs this term, scoring against Galatasaray in their Europa League meeting in November.

Lankshear will join up with West Brom on Monday, ahead of next Saturday’s Championship meeting with Sheffield Wednesday.

He told wba.co.uk: “I am delighted to join this great club. I’m looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and I can’t wait to play in front of all the fans.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for me to compete for game time and, hopefully, score goals that can help the club push on to get promoted during my time here.

“Tony Mowbray is a manager who everyone says only good things about and I’m keen to learn as much from him as I can over the next few months.”

Ruben Amorim meanwhile has heaped praise on Alejandro Garnacho for the way he has kicked on and “changed in everything” since the disappointment of being left out of the Manchester derby.

It is seven weeks since the Argentina international and fellow academy graduate Marcus Rashford were surprisingly omitted from the United squad that went on to to secure a late comeback win at City.

The latter’s continued exile is dominating the headlines, and while talk about Garnacho’s future also continues, the 20-year-old’s response to the City setback appears starkly different.

“He changed right away since that game against City,” head coach Amorim said of Garnacho. “The way he understands things and understands that I just want to help him, I just want to win games.

“He changed in everything: the approach when you talk with him, the way he recovers.

“He understands that sometimes I’m a different coach, that I am demanding in my way and sometimes it’s hard with the first impact because it’s a different kind of coach.

“He understands that it is never in a bad way, it’s always for him, but I am different person.

“I think all the merit (goes to) Garnacho. He is improving and we want to continue to improve with Garnacho.”

Spurs still attractive despite Tel snub

“It depends what the players are looking for,” Postecoglou said on potential new signings.

“You can look at it two ways, OK the league form is not great but there’s some pretty big possibilities to have success here in the last three or four months.

“It’s still a big club, it’s still a club that can challenge for honours and it’s whether the player sees the potential that we see right now, or certainly that I see. If it’s too much of a hard sell, it’s probably not the right one for us.

“You need a bit of discipline. The one thing I don’t want to do is bring somebody in who is just going to be another body.

“I don’t think that serves any purpose knowing what we’ve got coming. That aside, there is definitely a need for us and has been a need. That’s why we’ve been looking for a player or two to help us with what’s ahead, but they have to be the right types and fit in with what we’re doing.

“I guess that’s the tricky bit. There are plenty of players available but are they going to be the right ones? That’s the question for us.”

Spurs still attractive despite Tel snub

Tottenham remain an attractive proposition for new players ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline, according to Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs are in desperate need of reinforcements with nine first-teamers unavailable for the trip to Brentford on Sunday.

It has been a similar story across the last two months and while Postecoglou has repeatedly called for his depleted squad to be given help, the club are yet to sign an outfield player going into the final days of the transfer window.

Talks have taken place with Bayern Munich over the potential signing of Mathys Tel, but the 19-year-old forward has reportedly rejected the move.

Tottenham can still end a 17-year trophy drought this term with key Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Europa League fixtures to come during the next six weeks, but have dropped to 15th in the Premier League to raise relegation fears.

Spurs are also reported to on the hunt for Alejandro Garnacho, after losing out on the chase for Mathys Tel of Bayern Munich.

Tel rejected a move to Tottenham after a transfer fee had been agreed between the two clubs.

But the Mail reports that Spurs have quickly shifted their attention to Old Trafford, where Garnacho is available and being courted by Napoli and Chelsea among other clubs in Europe.

Man Utd want £60m for the young winger, according to the Mail.

Totteham in advanced talks with Tomori

Spurs are closing in on the signing of AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori.

That’s according to Sky Sports, which claims the former Chelsea centre-half is a key target at Tottenham.

Spurs want to add a defender before the deadline on Monday, with Christian Romero and Radu Dragusin both injured and Micky Van de Ven only just recovered from a hamstring strain.

But Sky Sports says that although Spurs and Milan are in ‘advanced talks’, no agreement has yet been made with the player.

One to watch over the weekend.

  • Nuggets suffer brutal Russell Westbrook injury blow: latest updates

Beyond Nikola Jokic, the Nuggets haven’t had many consistent bright spots this season but Russell Westbrook has definitely been one. The team signed the 36-year-old former league MVP to a veteran minimum contract in the offseason out of necessity.

Russ had fallen out of favor around the league and had a nonexistent market. The Nuggets had a roster lacking depth and talent and extremely limited assets to upgrade. The deal came together as a marriage of convenience for both sides but it has worked out better than anyone could have imagined.

Westbrook has played so well that he has usurped a role in the starting lineup from Christian Braun and had people wondering if he’s actually the Nuggets’ second-best player. But the good vibes took a pause on the ironman, Westbrook on Friday night.

Westbrook leaves game vs. 76ers with hamstring injury

In the second half of the Ngugets’ Friday night game in Philadephia, Westbrook left the game and was ultimately ruled out during the fourth quarter. The Nuggets reported that Westbrook was experiencing hamstring tightness when he left for the locker room.

He was initially listed as questionable but was ruled out later in the game. There has been no further update, but hamstring issues are not usually good news. These soft tissue injuries can be fickle and unpredictable and often come with a high risk of re-injury.

Russ has played in every single game this season and shockingly been one of the most reliable things the Nuggets have going for them. Losing him for an extended period of time would be a devastating blow for a Denver team that is already lacking in depth and positive energy.

Theoretically, they should be able to survive without the veteran legend, and hopefully, it won’t be an extended absence but that’s no guarantee. This may serve as a good opportunity for guys like Braun and Julian Strawther to step up and if this lingers, maybe Trey Alexander will even get elevated from the G-League for an opportunity.

We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves and start speculating, but a hamstring injury for an older player is certainly concerning. Hopefully, the Nuggets get some good news and Russ will be back soon, but if not, they are going to have a massive hole in the rotation to fill all of a sudden.

The Denver Nuggets were dealt a brutal blow on Wednesday night as star guard Russell Westbrook suffered a serious injury during their game against the Golden State Warriors. Westbrook appeared to twist his ankle while driving to the basket in the third quarter and had to be helped off the court.

The Nuggets have yet to release an official statement on the extent of Westbrook’s injury, but early reports suggest that he could be out for an extended period of time. This is a major setback for Denver, as Westbrook has been one of their top performers this season, averaging 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists per game.

Fans and teammates alike are hoping for a speedy recovery for Westbrook, but in the meantime, the Nuggets will have to regroup and find a way to fill the void left by his absence. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
