Memphis basketball has won three games in a row and seven of its past eight.
But a dreaded road trip to Tulane (11-9, 5-2) awaits the No. 16 Tigers (16-4, 6-1) on Thursday (8 p.m., ESPN2). Penny Hardaway’s team has lost three consecutive games to the Green Wave in New Orleans after starting the 21st century 14-1 there.
Despite a roster overhaul similar to Hardaway’s − Tulane lost 10 players from last season’s team − and a rough non-conference showing (6-7), coach Ron Hunter has steadied the ship and has the Green Wave tied for second in the AAC standings.
“He lost his entire team, (so) no one saw that coming,” Hardaway said during a postgame radio interview on Sunday. “We know (Hunter is) going to have something up his sleeve when we get down there.”
Here are three things to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday’s game.
Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.
Devlin Fieldhouse: Where voodoo works against Memphis basketball
It has been nearly 50 months since the Tigers have won a game inside Tulane’s Devlin Fieldhouse, where Hunter’s team has won three straight over Memphis.
The last time Memphis beat the Green Wave at Fogelman Arena (Dec. 16, 2020), former all-conference forward DeAndre Williams was making his debut in a Tigers uniform.
The Green Wave’s average margin of victory in its three consecutive home victories is just 3.3 points. Last season, David Jones missed a pair of 3-pointers in the final three seconds, giving Tulane an 81-79 win. In 2023, the Green Wave scored 59 second-half points en route to a seven-point win. In December 2021, Alex Lomax’s layup attempt with one second left missed and the Tigers (playing without Williams, Jalen Duren and Emoni Bates) lost by one point.
PJ Carter emerging for Tigers’ stretch run?
Memphis’ PJ Carter has enjoyed some nice moments this season. He scored nine points and made some crucial shots in an overtime win against UConn at the Maui Invitational.
But consistent playing time and production have been difficult to come by for much of the season. Until lately.
Carter scored a season-high 14 points in Sunday’s win over UAB in just 13 minutes. It was yet another positive step for the former UTSA Roadrunner. In his past three games, Carter is averaging 9 points and is shooting 55.5% from the field, including 41.7% from the 3-point line.
“PJ Carter is just answering the bell,” Hardaway said. “He’s doing what he does. He’s a shooter. He’s driving to the basket now. And he’s going to have to be accounted for out on the floor.”
Carter has history of upping his game this time of year. Last season, he scored 14.7 points a game over the Roadrunners’ last nine games.
Tulane basketball scouting report
The Green Wave leaned heavily on a strong core in each of their three wins over the Tigers in New Orleans: Sion James, Kevin Cross and Jaylen Forbes, among others.
That trio is gone now, and Tulane has struggled without it.
But, after going 6-7 in non-conference play, the Green Wave have steadied themselves a bit. They’ve won three of their past four (most recently, a road win over Rice on Saturday). The only loss was an 80-77 decision at Temple.
Kaleb Banks, who transferred from Indiana, is having a breakout season. The 6-foot-8 forward leads the team in scoring (17.5) and rebounding (7.4). Guard Rowan Brumbaugh (the team’s second-leading scorer at 14.5 per game) is second in the AAC in assists per game (4.7).
Memphis basketball score prediction vs. Tulane
Memphis 75, Tulane 73: It will be another edge-of-your-seat affair in New Orleans. But the Tigers are due for a win there.

As the Memphis Tigers gear up to face off against the Tulane Green Wave in an exciting college basketball matchup, fans are eagerly anticipating the game and making their score predictions. The Tigers are coming off a strong season and are looking to continue their winning streak against Tulane. However, Tulane is a formidable opponent and will be looking to pull off an upset.
In terms of injury updates, both teams are relatively healthy heading into the game. Memphis may be without a few key players due to minor injuries, but they are expected to have their starting lineup intact. Tulane has also had a few players dealing with minor injuries, but they are expected to be ready to play.
As for the score prediction, it’s always tough to predict the outcome of a college basketball game. However, based on the strengths and weaknesses of both teams, I predict that Memphis will come out on top with a final score of 75-65.
Stay tuned for the game to see if this prediction holds true, and don’t miss out on the exciting action between Memphis and Tulane!

Manchester United will have their eye on securing a top-eight finish as the Europa League group stage reaches its conclusion on what could be a hectic night of action.
Ruben Amorim’s side are in the Romanian capital to take on FCSB in their final fixture as they reach the end of a campaign in which they are so far unbeaten. Three draws mean that direct progression to the round of 16 is not totally secure, but win tonight and a smooth route will be theirs. A draw could well prove sufficient, too – yet defeat could open the door for others to usurp them.
The hosts are among those looking to overtake their fourth-placed opponents, with FCSB starting the night a point and four rungs below Manchester United in the competition ladder. That makes it win or bust for the 1986 European Cup winners as they hope to avoid the two-legged playoff ties that the other 16 qualifiers will have to negotiate.

Amorim tells Rashford what he must do to stay at Manchester United
18:35 , Mike Jones
Ruben Amorim has admitted Manchester United need a player like Marcus Rashford but says the forward “has to change” and meet his standards to have a future with the club.
Seven weeks have passed since Rashford last played for the Red Devils and his wait continues.
The forward trained with his team-mates on the eve of their match against FCSB, but was omitted from the 21-man squad seeking to secure a last-16 spot in Romania.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday (29 January), Amorim said: “When I feel that it is the right moment, I will put any player to play and, I will say it again, we are a better team with Marcus Rashford.”
Ruben Amorim claims he will put 63-year-old goalkeeping coach in Man Utd squad before Marcus Rashford
18:30 , Mike Jones
Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim revealed that the reason for Marcus Rashford’s continued absence from the matchday squad is the lack of effort he is seeing in training and said he will put 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital on the bench before the England international.
Rashford, who has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford during the January transfer window, has not featured for United since a 2-1 victory over Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League back in December.
Amorim will put 63-year-old goalkeeping coach in Man Utd squad before Rashford
‘Our focus is on the players we have’
18:25 , Mike Jones
Despite rumours linking the club with the likes of Mathys Tel, Ruben Amorim says he is focused on improving the current members of the Man Utd squad.
“Our focus is to work with the players that we have,” Amorim added.
“I think it is clear we can improve as a team, all of us, if we have time to train and if we put some wins together. So, it will be so much easier.
“We had so many games compared to training, that is how, for me, it is the biggest problem to start [my job] in the middle of a season, especially, in that moment, with a lot of games.”
Amorim on United’s transfer policy
18:20 , Mike Jones
As the January transfer window is still open, Ruben Amorim was asked how Manchester United will deal with potentialy incomings and outgoings.
He said: “This window is always really, really difficult and we don’t want to make the mistakes of the past.
“We have to also understand the situation of the club. A lot of things are changing so we have to be careful in this type of window.
“You guys know the situation of the club at the moment, so it’s nothing new.”
United’s Europa League campain
18:15 , Mike Jones
Manchester United have won four Europa League games in a row.
They beat PAOK, Bodo/Glimt, Viktoria Plzen, and Rangers last time out.
Another victory would match their record run of five, set during the 2022/23 group stage.
Can Man Utd’s unexpected new coach turn Ruben Amorim players into ‘mad dogs’?
18:10 , Mike Jones
The football world wasn’t ready for Sir Clive Woodward when he joined Southampton as performance director in 2005.
Two years after masterminding England’s Rugby World Cup glory, Woodward arrived at St Mary’s to much ridicule, summed up by a newspaper cartoon which depicted two players lifting up striker Peter Crouch like a second row catching a rugby lineout.
Woodward later said, on seeing the cartoon: “My immediate thought was, ‘Can you do that? Can you actually lift someone up?’”
Can Man Utd’s new coach turn Ruben Amorim’s players into ‘mad dogs’?
A look at FCSB
18:05 , Mike Jones
FCSB sit second in the Romanian top-flight on goal difference.
They are unbeaten in their last four Europa League matches, beating Midtjylland and Qarabag while settling for goalless draws against Olympiacos and Hoffenheim.
They have lost just one of their matches in this competition in 2024/25. However, that was a heavy defeat as they went down 4-0 at Rangers, the team United beat last time out.
De Ligt on United’s chances
18:00 , Mike Jones
Matthijs de Ligt added: “We are undefeated so far [in the Europa League], so good in that respect.
“There were a few matches that we drew and which we should have won.
“There’s always room for improvement, but I believe we are one of the best eight teams [in the league phase].”
Ugarte on United’s Europea campaign
17:55 , Mike Jones
The midfielder said: “I think it’s been quite positive. United must win every match because of the club we are.
“But I think we are doing well and the next match will be very important.
“From now on, it’s about doing everything we can, resting and eating well, so that we are in the best shape.”
The damning final truth of Antony’s Manchester United nightmare
17:50 , Mike Jones
Ruben Amorim was discussing a forward he doesn’t pick. He would, he said on Sunday, be willing to put his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach on the bench ahead of him if he didn’t give the maximum in training.
It wasn’t Antony he was talking about: Marcus Rashford was the man damned by comparison with Jorge Vital. (Although a spot on the bench has already opened up.)
The temptation is to suggest the veteran Vital would be of similar use to Antony as a substitute.
The damning final truth of Antony’s Manchester United nightmare
Ugarte on playing for Man Utd
17:45 , Mike Jones
Manuel Ugarte spoke about what it is like to play for Manchester United.
He said: “I talk to Facu [Facundo] Pellistri every day because he is a very close friend of mine.
“I talked to Diego Forlán and Edi [Edinson] Cavani in Uruguay. This is something that unites us and it’s quite beautiful.
“You realise every player who leaves the team keeps that passion and love for United and that says a lot about this club, its history, the passion of the fans and the players who have been part of this club.”
Shaw back in training
17:40 , Mike Jones
It looks increasingly likely that Manchester United will bring a left wingback into the squad during this transfer window as a deal fro Patrick Dorgu moves closer.
More good news for Ruben Amorim and co. is that Luke Shaw has returned to training and should be in contention to play soon.
He has been left out of tonight’s squad though as he is still not match fit but could play a role at the weekend.
(Martin Rickett/PA Wire) Amorim on rotating players
17:35 , Mike Jones
Here’s Ruben Amorim talking in the build-up to tonight’s match about how he will choose the players.
“We have to rotate some players,” he said. “Everybody is prepared – and it is crucial for us to stay in the top eight and to avoid the play-offs.
“Like I’ve said so many times, we need time to train. We need to rest some players also, so we need to win tomorrow.
“We have to face the game in a good way, fight for every ball, but to improve with the possession and we’ll try, tomorrow, with the starting XI, to have players with a lot of possession, to control the game, because it’s really important, especially in the beginning.”
Manchester United receive huge injury boost after star returns to training ahead of Europa League clash
17:30 , Mike Jones
Manchester United received a boost on the eve of their Europe League game in Romania with Luke Shaw returning to training, as well an appearance from under-fire Marcus Rashford.
Shaw had featured in Ruben Amorim’s first three matches in charge, only for the left-back to suffer his latest injury setback that has kept him out since the start of December.
Shaw’s return is timely as United pursue Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu to strengthen their left-back options before Monday’s transfer deadline.
United receive huge injury boost after Shaw returns to training ahead of Europa clash
FCSB vs Man Utd prediction
17:25 , Mike Jones
Ruben Amorim’s team are going through a good spell and the Europa League has been one of their more positive competitions this season.
With the possibility of a last-16 place on the line expect the Red Devils to turn up and find a way past their opponent.
It won’t be pretty and at times they will have to suffer but individual quality should carry then over the line.
FCSB 1-2 Man Utd.
Man Utd eary team news
17:20 , Mike Jones
Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte is a doubt after suffering a knock against Fulham, while Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Jonny Evans remain sidelined.
Marcus Rashford remains at the club for now but is firmly out of favour.
Predicted Manchester United XI: Bayindir; Yoro, Maguire, Martinez; Mazraoui, Collyer, Mainoo, Dalot; Diallo, Fernandes; Hojlund
FCSB early team news
17:15 , Mike Jones
Top scorer Darius Olaru is a key absentee for FCSB, who also have injury concerns over Mihai Lixandru and Octavian Popescu.

Manchester United will look to book their spot in the last 16 of the Europa League as they travel to Romania to face FCSB.
While languishing in the Premier League, Ruben Amorim’s side are unbeaten in this competition and look good bets for automatic progression, avoiding the scheduling pressures that a two-legged play-off tie would pose.
A win would cement a top eight finish while a draw might also be enough, but defeat would see them slip beneath their hosts in Bucharest.
FCSB start the final round of fixtures occupying the final qualification spot for direct progression and just a point behind their opponents.

Forza Horizon 5 is the latest Xbox game to make the leap to PS5, and it’s launching this spring with all of the same content and DLC
Microsoft has announced that Forza Horizon 5 is crossing the console divide from Xbox Series X to PS5.
In a news release, Microsoft pegged Forza Horizon 5 for release on PS5 “this spring” but didn’t nail down a specific release date. The racing game will arrive on PS5 with all of the same content and DLC as the Xbox and PC version, and cross-play has been confirmed.
In addition, there’s a new update called Horizon Realms coming to all platforms that “will give players the chance to explore a curated collection of some of the community’s favorite previously released Evolving Worlds, alongside some other surprises.”
Released in 2021, Forza Horizon 5 brings all the thrills of racing to an open-world format based in Mexico and adds new modes such as hide-and-seek. We were pretty keen on it upon release and gave it a perfect score in our Forza Horizon 5 review.
“Forza Horizon 5 is a stunning and beautifully crafted entry in the series that’s full of memorable races, creativity, and fantastic additions,” we said, also calling it “Playground Games’ most exciting and beautifully crafted entry yet.” No pressure for Fable 4 or anything like that, then.
Over the past 12 months, Microsoft has softened its stance on Xbox exclusives, with various older games like Hi-Fi Rush and Grounded jumping to consoles like the PS5, Nintendo Switch, and so on. Even newer games like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle have been released with less exclusivity in mind, though PlayStation fans are still waiting on that one.
Speaking in a recent interview, Xbox boss Phil Spencer explained that “there is no reason for me to put a ring fence around any game” when asked about Starfield’s future platform plans.
“Our strategy is to allow our games to be available,” he said “Game Pass is an important component of playing the games on our platform, but to keep games off of other platforms, that’s not a path for us. It doesn’t work for us.”
We’re still waiting for Starfield to cross the console divide, but Forza Horizon 5? No longer.
Exciting news for all racing game enthusiasts! Forza Horizon 5, the highly acclaimed Xbox game, is finally making its way to the PlayStation 5 this spring. Players can expect to experience all of the same thrilling gameplay, stunning graphics, and immersive open-world racing that has made Forza Horizon 5 a fan favorite. What’s even more impressive is that the PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5 will also include all of the same content and DLC that Xbox players have been enjoying. This means that PlayStation fans can look forward to exploring a wide variety of locations, customizing their dream cars, and competing in intense races across the beautiful landscapes of Mexico.
Whether you’re a longtime Forza Horizon fan or new to the series, this is an exciting opportunity to dive into the world of virtual racing on the PlayStation 5. Keep an eye out for Forza Horizon 5 this spring and get ready to hit the open road in style! #ForzaHorizon5 #PS5 #RacingGame #GamingCommunity

The transfer portal saga has reached a climax in the last few weeks, involving a lot of players poaching and tampering allegations over the big schools healing from the bigwig conferences. College football has visibly stepped into a transitional era where terms like ethics and loyalty of the players become all but elusive. When Beau Pribula hit the portal just ahead of a crucial playoff match with the Nittany Lions, it left James Franklin and the fans and veterans alike in severe jeopardy. But quite unsurprisingly, it’s just one instance among the hundreds. The NCAA portal window, which is directly challenging the season timeline, has been a recurring theme of dispute in the mix.
The latest one to mention is the drama swirling over Jaden Rashada, which has set a clumsy record of flips over the last couple of years. On the parallel, Xavier Lucas, a Wisconsin athlete, also fights a legal battle over portal permission. The latest intel kind of binds these two to a single faith.
Xavier Lucas’s projected fate at the portal revealed

Lucas, a former Wisconsin cornerback, is now eyeing to take his talent to the University of Miami. However, Wisconsin didn’t allow him permission, citing a restriction as per their NIL contracts, which is two years. Lucas and his advocates claimed that the university purposefully wanted to block his career growth by delinquently denying him the assent. They didn’t just stop him from hitting the portal, they rather accused Miami of tampering with players which might invite complex NCAA violations and legal repercussions for both institutions. But before it further opens the pandora’s box, we get busy soft-guessing who will win the shot at court.
Well, Locked on Big 12 host Cam Stuart has an answer that can change the landscape of the entire college football world. ‘‘If I’m, if I’m a football player, why would I enter the transfer portal when I can just say Deuces, I don’t go here anymore, I go somewhere else and guess what if I’m Miami or Oklahoma State or Texas Tech, I don’t want to pull from the transfer portal. I just want to enroll a new kid here, It’s that simple. No more paperwork. Just welcome to the show, this is going to officially throw us into even further chaos,” Stuart reflected on a concerning aspect.
They say every law has an escape, and this is how it works. The best or worst part is you can’t blame any player for the intricacy or the infidelity because they are entitled to think about their future as long as they are permitted to.
On the other hand, the college football world trademark ruling doesn’t only impact a single entity, rather it will initiate a new era in the same area, allowing many more to avail of the same. Just like Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia’s win over separating the Juco years from the overall collegiate eligibility paved the way for the youngsters to go for the same afterward, the Wisconsin vs Miami judgment will decide a lot going forward. ‘‘Make no mistake, this kid’s gonna play for Miami next year. Like they’re not, Wisconsin’s not going to win this case. Wisconsin has kind of fumbled the ball on this in terms of making them sign this NIL contract which actually isn’t going to go into effect until maybe April when it goes before the house,” Stuart added.
Well, if this happens to be the case, it’s time to raise a stock on Jaden Rasheda as well.

Jaden Rasheda will possibly benefit from a positive Xavier Lucas judgment
Rasheda has the craziest portal records that didn’t do him any favor. The nomadic nature of his recruits only puzzled the teams, and the staff associated with it. But again, technically, he is allowed to keep jumping ship unless and until he finds his match. Thanks to the updated NIL era. He had a tumultuous history in Florida involving a massive $13 million NIL deal that led him to depart even before playing a single game. After that, he came to Arizona State, had a brief yet significant time, and ended up in Georgia at the start of the past season.
Rashada didn’t see the field for Georgia in 2024 after transferring. But somehow, the California native has become a poster boy for the NIL era in college sports for all the wrong reasons. Now, Georgia is not serving him anymore, and he is looking for another home at the moment.

Israeli hostage released as latest prisoner exchange with Hamas begins amid Gaza ceasefire
Tel Aviv — A female Israeli hostage, Agam Berger, 20, was released in Gaza early Thursday as the next hostages-for-prisoners swap agreed to by Israel and Hamas got underway. Two more Israelis, including an 80-year-old man, and five Thai hostages were expected to be released later in the day.
Berger was released amid the ruins of the Jabalia Refugee Camp in northern Gaza. She was the final hostage from an all-female unarmed Israeli military unit that had been working to surveil Gaza.
Seven women from the unit were taken hostage during Hamas’ Oct. 7 2023 attack on Israel, which saw militants kill about 1,200 people and take a total of 251 others hostage.

Israel’s military response to the attack has killed more than 47,300 people, according to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry, and decimated the Palestinian territory, displacing virtually all of its population and causing a wide scale humanitarian crisis.
Israel is expected to free 110 Palestinian prisoners as part of the exchange on Thursday.
Berger was escorted by militants out of the back of a destroyed building in Jabalia. Wearing an outfit that resembled green military fatigues, she was handed over to members of the Red Cross.
Two other Israeli hostages, Arbel Yehoud, 29, and Gadi Moses, 80, were expected to be transferred to the Red Cross later in the day in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis. Yehoud and Moses have been held by the militant group Islamic Jihad, which is allied with Hamas.
A huge crowd gathered Thursday in Khan Younis to witness the handover, expected to take place near the home of deceased Hamas commander Yahya Sinwar. Dozens of armed militants from Hamas and Islamic Jihad paraded through the area.
According to the terms of the ceasefire deal, Yehoud should have been among the four women released during the second exchange on Jan. 24. After that release last weekend, the terms of the agreement stipulated that Israel would release a number of Palestinian prisoners from jails and allow Palestinians to return to their homes in northern Gaza, across the Netzarim Corridor, which divides the north and south of the enclave.
When Yehoud wasn’t among those released last weekend, Israel said it would not allow Palestinians to cross the Netzarim Corridor. After a quick negotiation process, Hamas agreed to carry out Thursday’s previously unscheduled hostage release, to include Yehoud.
In anticipation of the release and according to the new agreement, Israel started allowing Palestinians to cross the Netzarim Corridor into northern Gaza on Monday.
Tens of thousands of people have made their way back to the north , most of them on foot, some finding the ruins of their homes and the remains of loved ones, but also reuniting with family members they haven’t been able to see in months.
Israel has not confirmed the identities of the Thai nationals expected to be released on Thursday. A number of Thai citizens who had been agricultural workers in Israel were taken hostage in Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack.
Hamas and its allies are expected to release a total of 33 Israeli hostages during the first six-week phase of the ceasefire, which took effect on Jan. 19. It is hoped that negotiations on the far more difficult second phase of the ceasefire plan will start to yield progress soon.
Berger’s release left 88 hostages — both living and dead — still in Gaza, according to Israeli officials, including seven dual U.S. nationals: Keith Siegel, 65, from Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Sagui Dekel-Chen, 35, who grew up in Bloomfield, Connecticut; and Edan Alexander, 19, from Tenafly, New Jersey. Four other Americans are believed to have been killed. It remains unclear when any of the Americans might be released.
In a historic move, an Israeli hostage has been released as the latest prisoner exchange with Hamas begins amid a ceasefire in Gaza. The release comes as part of ongoing efforts to broker peace and improve relations between Israel and the Palestinian militant group. The Israeli hostage, who has been held captive by Hamas for several years, was freed in exchange for a number of Palestinian prisoners being released by Israel. This prisoner exchange is seen as a positive step towards building trust and fostering dialogue between the two sides.
The ceasefire in Gaza, which has been in place for several weeks now, has allowed for negotiations to take place and for humanitarian aid to reach those in need. It is hoped that this latest prisoner exchange will further solidify the ceasefire and pave the way for more peaceful interactions between Israel and Hamas.
As the world watches this development with cautious optimism, it is clear that there is still much work to be done in order to achieve lasting peace in the region. However, this prisoner exchange serves as a glimmer of hope and a reminder that progress is possible when both sides are willing to engage in dialogue and compromise.
